WWF Saturday Night's Main Event: Lone Star Standoff

Saturday, February 23rd, 1991

Dallas, Texas

21,000 in attendance at Reunion Arena - SOLD OUT!

PPV Buy Rate: 0.49

Announcers: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

EaGXtPU.png

Backstage before the show:

- The Ultimate Warrior got a lot of heat with the rest of the locker room after pulling a tasteless rib on everyone. I gave him a "stern warning," which, of course, made him worse. It was likely a no-win situation for me anyway.

Monsoon: Welcome everyone to Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas! Welcome everyone to Saturday Night's Main Event, Lone Star Standoff! I'm Gorilla Monsoon, alongside my broadcast partner Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, and they are hanging from the rafters here in Texas, Brain!

Heenan: I think you need to check your dictionary, Monsoon! There's no one hanging from the rafters.

Monsoon: It's a figure of speech, Brain!

Heenan: Yeah, a dumb one.

Monsoon rolls his eyes before continuing.

Monsoon: We've got some great action on deck here tonight, Brain. In the main event, "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan will finally get his hands on the self-proclaimed "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff!

Heenan: Self-proclaimed? Have you seen that guy, Monsoon? Did you see what he did to Hogan at the Royal Rumble? If he's not a nightmare, then I don't know who would be!

Monsoon: And we've got gold on the line as well. When your client, the WWF Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect, defends against a very upset, and still injured, Big Boss Man!

Heenan: Boss Man's upset? We're the ones that should be upset! We were told the match was canceled after what we di.....after what happened to Boss Man a few weeks ago.

Monsoon: WILL YOU STOP?! You say that like you had nothing to do with it!

Heenan: I never touched him!

Exasperated, Monsoon just rolls his eyes again before continuing.

Monsoon: And of course, we've also got the Blindfold Match between Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "The Model" Rick Martel!

Heenan: You know why they're wearing blindfolds in that match, Monsoon? It's because they were told Boss Man's mother would be at ringside!

Monsoon: I've had enough of this guy! let's go down to The Fink for our first match!

The Natural Disasters vs. Dino Bravo & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan.

5sPZVNC.jpgl2hjyvD.jpgw/x6U7M5r.jpgxblkqeI.pngRrhIPtQ.jpgpSgqVy6.jpg

Bravo and Duggan were out for revenge on the men who betrayed them, Earthquake for Bravo and Tugboat/Typhoon for Duggan.

Dino Bravo moved faster than he'd probably moved in a long time, sprinting to the ring to meet Duggan, as they went in guns blazing on The Natural Disasters. Bravo, of course, made Earthquake his priority, and Duggan did the same with Typhoon, and the good guys quickly cleared the ring to a good ovation. The Disasters started towards the dressing rooms as if they were walking out on the match, but Bravo and Duggan coerced them back in with taunts, and the match officially started.

Bravo wanted Earthquake to start, but Typhoon did instead. The two exchange some simple offense before Typhoon takes the advantage with a body slam and a big elbow drop. With Bravo now weakened a bit, Earthquake was tagged. And he did quite the number on Bravo, dominating him for a solid four minutes before he could make a tag to Duggan. Duggan got his team back in the match with a good little run, but the duo ultimately fell short when Earthquake pinned his former tag team partner Bravo with an Earthquake Splash at 9:38. A decent tag match for the opener, although certainly not the result the fans were hoping for.

LwdE2fH.jpg

While attending to Bravo after the match, Duggan was attacked by The Disasters. They took the former NFL lineman out with a double avalanche splash in the corner, and a running splash from Typhoon after he was down finished the onslaught.

The Undertaker vs. The British Bulldog.

0YsDiyO.jpgw/cUdFYH7.jpgxblkqeI.pngIpE2vTY.jpg

To the astonishment of everyone in attendance, and surely all of those watching at home, The Undertaker absolutely steamrolled The British Bulldog in this one. From the opening bell to the final bell, the result was never in doubt. The Undertaker simply toyed with the Bulldog before mercifully putting an end to the beatdown with a Tombstone Piledriver at 8:22.

CEKZoc0.jpg

After his victory, The Undertaker was about to deliver another Tombstone Piledriver to Bulldog, but Bearer pulled him by the hair and drew his attention to the urn he was carrying. The Undertaker threw Bulldog back down to the mat and followed Bearer out of the arena, never taking his eyes off the urn.

Monsoon: We now take you to video footage from earlier today, where "The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich was being awarded the key to the city by the Dallas Deputy Mayor, and things.....unfortunately, turned ugly!

Heenan: Ah, this was great!!

Monsoon: WILL YOU STOP?!

IYQfaUB.jpgbzN34FT.jpgzM0EUUP.jpg

The video is played and we see Von Erich accepting the "Key to the City of Dallas" from some city officials and receiving a plaque for being "Texas' Favorite Son." As Von Erich starts his acceptance speech, someone takes exception:

<details> <summary>SPOILER</summary>

3qzcoj1.jpg

It's Terry Funk!

Funk hits the stage out of nowhere and attacks Von Erich with a bull rope, repeatedly bludgeoning him with the bell on the end before choking him with the rope. Funk then broke the "Texas' Favorite Son" plaque and was about to use it as a weapon too. Fortunately for Von Erich, and maybe even some of his family members in attendance, Funk was arrested when nearby police officers finally made their way to the stage.

Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart vs. Animal

Hfr9JPp.jpgw/pD0b73b.jpgD6jDtTj.jpgxblkqeI.pngkz6sUWY.jpgw/D6Tq7WK.jpg

Heenan: You know these guys make me sick! All this talk about competition and it not being personal, there's just no place for that crap in wrestling! It won't last. You just watch!

All four members of The Hart Foundation and The Legion of Doom are present for these singles matches between the teams, as is Bret's younger brother Owen.

A clash of techniques this was not, as both of these men employ a simple, power-based/brawling style. Just a lot of stiff punches, kicks, and forearm shots in this one, with a few simple throws and slams thrown in. Both men were fairly tuckered out by the eight or nine-minute mark, but Neidhart slipped up first. He whipped Animal into the corner and charged in for a running clothesline, but he plowed hard into the turnbuckles instead. Animal quickly capitalized on the mistake, hitting a Running Powerslam for the pinfall at 10:06.

foMLTc8.jpg

With the Bret Hart vs. Hawk match up next, the two men simply traded places with their tag team partners. As Owen checked on the well-being of Neidhart, the second bout between these teams was underway.

Bret "Hitman" Hart vs. Hawk

pD0b73b.jpgw/Hfr9JPp.jpgD6jDtTj.jpgxblkqeI.pngD6Tq7WK.jpgw/kz6sUWY.jpg

This match should have been much better, at least on paper, but with Hawk being a little "under the weather," so to speak, it just wasn't meant to be. Hawk mostly controlled the match in the early going, easily overpowering the "Hitman" at every turn. Strength isn't everything though, and Hart was able to use his advantages on the technical side to gain control by the mid-point of the match. From there, Hart cleverly made it a point to work on the right arm of Hawk, knowing that's the arm he does his Flying Clothesline finisher with. And because an injured arm would really limit his potential on offense as a strength-based worker. And indeed, working on Hawk's arm was ultimately what won the match for Hart. While attempting a Gorilla Press Slam, Hawk's right arm gave out, allowing Hart to counter into a modified Sunset Flip for a sudden three count at 10:23.

foMLTc8.jpg

Bret tried to check on Hawk after the match, as he appeared to be really bothered by his right arm. Hawk wasn't interested though, shoving Bret away with his other arm. Bret seemed confused by Hawk's reaction but didn't poke the bear any further, exiting the ring to regroup with Neidhart and Owen.

Heenan: Uh oh! Do I smell trouble in paradise?

After a brief advertisement for the WWF Fan Club, we come back to find "Mean" Gene Okerlund in the ring.

Okerlund: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guests at this time, the "Macho King" Randy Savage and "Sensational" Queen Sherri!!

"Pomp and Circumstance" proceeds the entrance of the World Wrestling Federation's resident royal couple, and the fans are less than welcoming, throwing trash at them as Savage makes idle threats to those near the aisle. Savage starts to enter the ring but waits for Sherri to open the ropes for him instead, which draws a massive jeer from the 21,000 in attendance.

Okerlund: Get on in here, you two. "Macho King" Randy Savage, you have tried every trick in the book to get a World Wrestling Federation Championship match, and now it's yours for the taking. All you have to do is put your career on the line against the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 7! Your thoughts?

Savage: I told everybody that by hook or by crook, I would win back the World Wrestling Federation Championship belt, yeah! And when the Macho King swung his golden scepter into the gutless stomach of the Ultimate Warrior at the Royal Rumble, I was certain I had done what it took to secure my shot at the gold, yeah. From a man with way more spine than you Ultimate Warrior, Sergeant Slaughter, yeah! But oh no, the World Wrestling Federation officials just had to stick their nose in the kingdom's business, yeah, and reverse the decision, letting you keep my belt just a little bit longer, Ultimate Warrior. But rest assured your reign is coming to an end, yeah, and the Macho King will take his rightful place on the throne. And that all starts at Wrestlemania 7, yeah! ULTIMATE WARRIOR, I ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE, YEAH! My career versus your title! And I accept it with absolutely no second thoughts, yeah, because I aaammm, the greatest World Wrestling Federation Champion of all time, and you just live in my shadow, yeah! I LOOK DOWN ON YOU ULTIMATE WARRIOR, and at Wrestlemania 7, when you're starin' at the ceiling, and you look up at the Macho King, you'll realize, yeah, tha....

The Ultimate Warrior's music suddenly hits, and Savage, who was just calling the Warrior gutless, gives new meaning to the word, immediately pulling Sherri in front of himself as a shield. It isn't necessary though, since the Warrior doesn't actually show up.

Okerlund: And you call The Ultimate Warrior gutless?!

Savage draws his fist back, threatening to hit Okerlund, prompting the announcer to quickly exit the ring. Savage then looks nervously around the arena as he makes his way back to the dressing room, just having put his career on the line against a man he clearly fears!

Blindfold Match

Rick Martel vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts

6IeqDOZ.jpgxblkqeI.png6uWqSI4.jpg

The Dallas crowd did not take too kindly, to say the least, to "The Model" Rick Martel! They erupted for Jake "The Snake" Roberts though, as he entered the arena with Damien once again in tow. As Roberts made his way to the ring, Gorilla Monsoon noted how important it was to have the crowd on your side in a match where you can't see. As Roberts was looking for a safe place for Damien, Martel attacked him from behind, and the two had to be separated by officials and security to be blindfolded.

With both men successfully blindfolded, or hooded to be more accurate, the match was set to go. After several minutes of aimlessly flailing their arms around looking for each other in the dark, Roberts stopped dead in his tracks, clumsily backing himself into a turnbuckle. He pointed to his head to indicate that he had an idea and slowly began pointing to each of the other corners, listening for the fans to respond positively to Martel's location. Heenan cried it wasn't fair and that if Roberts could do that, then Martel should be allowed to take the blindfold off, close his eyes, and work on the "honor system"!

Roberts' plan did work though and it wasn't long until he had his hands on Martel, furiously banging on his skull with hard right hands. Martel was able to struggle free though, and roll to the outside. Roberts followed but wasn't able to find Martel before sliding back in the ring to avoid being counted out. Martel did find something at ringside though, a steel chair. As he was feeling around for Roberts, trying to hit him with the chair, he backed into the ring post. Scared it was Roberts, he turned and swung wildly, hitting the steel ring post with the chair. As Martel clenched his fists in agony, Roberts managed to follow the sound of steel on steel to Martel's vicinity and pulled him back in the ring under the bottom rope. As Roberts was pulling Martel up to set up the DDT, Martel hit a quick jab to the stomach to break free and managed to hit a Backbreaker. He then felt his way to Roberts' feet and applied his finisher, the Boston Crab.

Roberts wasn't in the Boston Crab long before he felt his way to Referee Danny Davis' bent knee and pulled himself up, causing Martel to lose his balance and fall forward, breaking the hold. Roberts quickly spun 180 degrees up to one knee and pointed directly to Martel, sending the crowd into a frenzy. He stood, took a few quick steps forward, and ran straight into Martel, quickly planting him with a DDT. It took him a little longer than you'd think it should to find Martel's limp frame on the mat, but Martel was still out by the time he did, and Roberts wins by pinfall in 16:11.

AEZPFvW.jpg

After the match, Roberts stomps Martel's atomizer into a pile of wet, bent metal and unleashes Damien on "The Model," who unfortunately manages to escape, certain to never bother "The Snake" again!

Mr. Perfect © vs. The Big Boss Man

8t1EkTu.jpgw/WikFKEQ.jpgxblkqeI.png0DVmuB8.jpg

Gorilla Monsoon is joined by Lord Alfred Hayes in the broadcast booth for this one, so Bobby Heenan can manage Mr. Perfect from ringside.

The Big Boss Man makes his entrance first, clearly favoring his injured ribs, which Monsoon clarifies for the audience aren't actually broken. Considering what they'd done to him just two short weeks ago, you'd figure Boss Man wouldn't be able to control his rage once he laid eyes on Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan, but he stayed surprisingly calm. He patiently waited for them to enter the ring, well, for Perfect to enter since Heenan wasn't about to go near the Boss Man, and even then, he never flinched. Perfect tried to rile him up a bit for some reason, doing his little behind-the-back towel throw but letting it hit Boss Man instead of catching it himself. But Boss Man just calmly picked the towel up off the mat, wiped his butt with it, and tossed it back in Perfect's face, which was very much appreciated by the crowd. Perfect certainly didn't appreciate it though, and he attacked first as referee Earl Hebner called for the bell to start the match.

Boss Man easily absorbed Perfect's initial attack and immediately took complete control of the match, connecting with several uppercuts, a Sidewalk Slam, and a guillotine-style splash onto Perfect's back as he was draped over the middle rope. With Perfect temporarily disposed of, Boss Man set his sights on Heenan, chasing him around the ring until Heenan started begging off by backing up the aisle towards the locker rooms. Perfect was back up by this point, and he rolled out to ringside and shoved a distracted Boss Man into the steel ring steps.

Perfect rolled Boss Man back into the ring and went for the cover, only getting a two count. Next, Perfect followed up a Snapmare with his patented Rolling Neck Snap, then went for the Perfect Plex. Perfect had a little trouble lifting Boss Man up though, which gave Boss Man the time he needed to reverse the attempt into a Small Package for a near-fall. Perfect popped right back up though, and started putting the boots to Boss Man, which only served to rile him back up. Boss Man no-sold all of Perfect's subsequent offense and reversed an Irish Whip attempt into one of his own, connecting with the Boss Man Slam to a massive roar from the crowd. He went for the cover, but Heenan quickly pulls referee Earl Hebner out under the bottom rope. As Hebner is arguing with Heenan, Boss Man comes over to join in on the yelling when suddenly....

<details> <summary>SPOILER</summary>

3qzcoj1.jpg

he's blindsided by Terry Funk! Funk nails Boss Man in the ribs with his branding iron and exits the ring, hiding at ringside. Perfect gets back to his feet and delivers on a Perfect Plex as Hebner returns to the ring to count the three at 16:14. Mr. Perfect makes defense number 17 of his WWF Intercontinental title.

iGeppy7.jpg

After the match, Perfect, Funk, and Heenan handcuff Boss Man to the ropes with his own handcuffs and beat him senseless until WWF officials break it up.

Sid vs. Virgil

yJ54Ll3.jpgw/YzftxzZ.jpgABfmL4J.jpgxblkqeI.pngwIKfVTh.jpg

Virgil makes his way out first to a pretty good pop, and surprisingly, the "backup" he previously mentioned is mysteriously absent. Sid didn't need backup but had it in spades anyway, in the form of both I.R.S. and "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. Things did not look good for Virgil. And right from the opening bell, they weren't!

Even worse than The Undertaker match earlier, Virgil didn't so much as connect with a single punch in this one. Sid tossed Virgil around like a rag doll, relentlessly driving him into the mat with power move after power move. He could have easily won the match in less than a minute but chose punishment over a swift victory. It would be his downfall.

After connecting with a brain-rattling Powerbomb, Sid refused the victory once more, pulling Virgil up after a one count as DiBiase looked on with obvious glee. Sid then put Virgil into a corner and began choking him, with DiBiase egging him on as he laughed maniacally. Referee Joey Marella began his five-count, and when Sid didn't break at five, Marella tried pulling him off. Sid didn't take too kindly to the interruption and shoved Marella violently away. At that moment, Sid knew he screwed up! He let go of Virgil and turned to plead with the Marella, but it was too late. Marella emphatically called for the bell, awarding the match to Virgil by disqualification at 6:35.

2raupQZ.jpg

<hr>

DiBiase and I.R.S. joined Sid in pleading his case to the referee, but Marella wouldn't budge on his decision. Once it became clear they were wasting their breath, Sid attacked Marella, throwing him over the top rope with authority. They then set their sights on a near unconscious Virgil, but Virgil's "backup" had finally? seen enough!

<details> <summary>SPOILER</summary>

OZCfRi7.jpg

It's "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and the fans go crazy as the Scotsman hits the ring with a steel chair in hand. I.R.S. is the first resistance he meets, but when they see Piper lay him out with the chair, DiBiase and Sid decide it's the only resistance he will meet, and they head for the showers. Piper yells for someone to get help for Virgil and Marella, as Bobby Heenan has the nerve to criticize Piper for needing a weapon for a 3 on 1 fight!

Hulk Hogan vs. Nikita Koloff

SpxMPhZ.jpgxblkqeI.png3tOYMIU.jpg

Going into this one, Hogan said Slaughters "attack dog" had bitten off more than he could chew when he attacked the Hogan at the Royal Rumble. Koloff denied being allied with Slaughter though, and if that is indeed the case, then Hogan seemed to be wrong on both accounts, as Koloff dominated the early going of this one.

No mercy was given by the aggressive Russian, as he worked on the Hulkster's lower back, pelting him with a barrage of vicious forearm shots. He then effortlessly hit a stiff-looking Backbreaker on the much larger Hogan, garnering a close two count. He continued his focus on the lower back, bringing Hogan back to his feet and locking in a Bearhug. After a few minutes, it seemed like Hogan was about to succumb, as the referee raised and dropped his lifeless arm twice. It didn't fall the third time though, and with the crowd on his side, he was able to break free with a few hard right hands and whip Koloff into the ropes, connecting with a Big Boot on the rebound. Hogan missed the follow-up Big Leg Drop though, which allowed Nikita to hit his Russian Sickle Lariat after both men got back to their feet. Unfortunately for Koloff, the force of the move caused Hogan to roll out of the ring when he hit the mat.

Outside now, Nikita picks Hogan up and rolls him back into the ring. He follows, but Hogan is back up on one knee now. Koloff nails him with a hard right, but the "Hulk up" has begun. He no-sells several more big rights from the Russian and starts to stomp around the ring, shaking his head. Koloff goes in for another right, and Hogan blocks it and connects with one of his own. Two more big, right hands down Nikita as Hogan gestures to the crowd that's it's time for the Body Slam. Hogan hits the Body Slam and gestures to the crowd once more, cupping his hand to his ear to absorb their cheers. He runs into the ropes to go for another Big Leg Drop, but this time he gets a chair shot to the back from Sgt. Slaughter.

The referee calls for the bell as Hogan crumbles to the canvas with a disqualification victory at 15:48.

Show Rating:

mf0gq8j.jpg

<hr>

Post-show notes:

- The Bret Hart vs. Hawk match should have scored a little better, but Hawk was wasted on drugs or "under the weather," as I put it in the match write-up.

- I actually had to run this event twice because I made a rookie mistake the first time I set the card up. In that extra run, the Perfect vs. Boss Man match actually scored a 93, which would have been my highest grade of the save so far. I ended up with my highest grade of the save in the main event anyway, so it all works out.

Top 5 in-ring performances of the night:

Hulk Hogan - 91

Mr. Perfect - 88

Jake Roberts - 86

Big Boss Man - 83

Nikita Koloff - 82

The Next Day:

- I've already had to fine Hawk twice for wrestling either drunk or on drugs. I'm giving him one more chance before sending him to rehab, so I fined him again. He said he was happy I did, but we'll see if it straightens him out any.

- Bret Hart was understandably annoyed at Hawk for being wasted during their match. His morale was already "Extremely Happy" from my handling of an incident with the British Bulldog and my hiring of Owen Hart, but I gave him a $5,000 bonus anyway.

- I offered multi-year contract extensions to Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, Typhoon, and Smash of Demolition.

- I offered a contract to Missy Hyatt as her WCW contract was expiring. If she signs, she'll split interview duties with Gene Okerlund. He's the only decent person I have for that now, and I don't like using the same person for all interviews.

Prediction contest standings after SNME: Lone Star Standoff:

smw88- 11 points

Trevor Belmont - 6 points

JaCeLo3 - 4 points

KyTeran - 4 points

scmurph01- 3 points

This round of the prediction contest will run through the King of the Ring PPV in June. "Prize" still TBD. Thanks so much to everyone for reading, predicting and commenting!

My Father-in-law has passed away and I have no choice but to end this dynasty for a second time. As you'd expect, my wife is taking it very hard and I need to be there for her right now. I may bring it back (again!) or start a different diary in the future. I'm just not sure at this point. Thanks to all of those who read and commented this time around though. I really appreciate it!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Family always comes first.

We will be here when or if you want to continue a diary etc. Take care

<p>After a little soul searching, I've realized that I made a rash decision at a difficult time when I canceled the dynasty. So I've decided to continue it after all. Because other than tidying up some punctuation and worker pics, and maybe rewriting a few run-on sentences, I'm pretty much already prepared to post one show per weekday all the way through late August. And with that many shows already in the bag, I can easily take a couple of weeks to spend time with my wife and not get too far off track. </p><p> </p><p>

Thanks for understanding!</p>

Superstar Billy Graham announces he's been named a sort of "commissioner" by WWF President Jack Tunney. His main job will be to hand down orders from the top, but he's also been given the authority to handle smaller matters at his discretion. He says his first order of business is to deny the request of The Ultimate Warrior to have his match with Randy Savage tonight since that's already been locked in for Wrestlemania 7. However, since he understands from personal experience the Warrior's desire to get his hands on Savage, he has set a tag team match for next week with The Ultimate Warrior on one team and Randy Savage on the other. He says he hasn't decided who each man's partner will be yet though.

Hulk Hogan says Sgt. Slaughter can make all the excuses he wants, but everyone knows he's scared of the Hulkster, and everyone knows he's scared of the red, white, and blue. Just like Saddam Hussein! He challenges Slaughter to a match at Wrestlemania 7 and challenges Nikita Koloff to a rematch. This time in a Steel Cage!

Money Inc. cuts a promo on Virgil and Roddy Piper. Ted DiBiase says Virgil should have been careful what he wished for because now he's got it at Wrestlemania 7, and he will pay a very steep price! DiBiase also says that Piper should have minded his own business because Sid hates it when people stick their noses in his!

Last week, the Hart Foundation wondered whether The Legion of Doom had a problem since Hawk was less than receptive of Bret's concern after he seemingly suffered an arm injury during their match at SNME. Hawk and Animal respond by saying no, they don't have a problem, but The Hart Foundation certainly will at Wrestlemania 7!

In the main event, the Big Boss Man goes one on one with the newest Heenan Family member, and the man who cost him his match with Mr. Perfect at Lone Star Standoff, Terry Funk. If Boss Man wins, he gets one final shot against Mr. Perfect and his WWF Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania 7.

Terry Funk spent most of the match making the injured ribs of the Big Boss Man his number one priority, and it looked like it might be over when Funk hit a Piledriver.

Before Funk could make the cover though,

The Texas Tornado attacked him, giving Funk the win by disqualification.

Post-show notes:

- This was my highest-rated show of the save, beating Lone Star Standoff by 2 points.

Top 5 in-ring performances of the night:

Big Boss Man - 82

The Undertaker - 76

Terry Funk - 73

Shawn Michaels - 72

The Mountie - 68

The Next Day:

- Hulk Hogan said Shane Douglas is clumsy and I should cut him loose before someone gets seriously hurt.

- Marty Jannetty was identified as a hard drug user by the WWF drug testing policy. I fined him and nothing noteworthy resulted.

- I'm leaning towards starting a "one strike and you're sent to rehab" policy for all the users and abusers. Steroids included.

- The Mountie and The British Bulldog don't like each other. I tried some positive meddling, but it didn't work.

After a little soul searching, I've realized that I made a rash decision at a difficult time when I canceled the dynasty.

Thanks for understanding!

Haha so happy to hear this and so sorry for your loss at the same time! Also, you dropped that Rumble card way too quick lol but it was a great show nonetheless.

Thanks, Trevor! Yeah, the PPVs are gonna come every Friday at least through late August/early September since I'm already finished through November '91 in-game. It may slow down a bit after that, but hopefully not too much.

He informs them that not only will Big Boss Man get another shot at Mr. Perfect at Wrestlemania, but if any member of the Heenan family interferes they'll be fired, and Heenan along with them!! And, just in case Perfect and Heenan get any "bright ideas," Big Boss Man can win the title not only by pinfall or submission but also by count out or disqualification!

It's time for the tag team main event, as The Ultimate Warrior will get a chance to get his hands on "Macho King" Randy Savage before Wrestlemania. Billy Graham is out first to announce who each man's tag team partner will be.

lObEcd2.jpg

Graham first calls out Savage, who makes his entrance with "Sensational" Queen Sherri at his side.

oHBcBY2.jpgkclBKJp.jpg

He looks very nervous, repeatedly spinning in circles all the way to the ring as if he's expecting an Ultimate Warrior attack at any moment. Graham extends his hand to Savage, but Savage blows him off as he climbs the turnbuckles to pander to the crowd. Graham says Savage should be more respectful to the Commissioner, especially considering who he's signed to be Savage's partner for this match. It's The Undertaker!

cUdFYH7.jpg0YsDiyO.jpg

Savage's worried look quickly turns to one of confidence as Undertaker joins him in the ring. Savage looks him up and down, seeming very impressed with what he sees. He extends his hand to shake Undertaker's, but the deadman completely ignores him and Bearer interjects to shake instead.

Before bringing out Ultimate Warrior, Graham introduces his tag team partner for the match, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan!

pSgqVy6.jpg

Duggan charges to the ring with his 2x4, attacking Undertaker. Savage and Undertaker momentarily double-team Duggan, until The Ultimate Warrior's music hits and he speeds to the ring. The Ultimate Warrior quickly evens the odds, scaring Savage out of the ring and over the barricade into the crowd. The Warrior doesn't follow into the crowd though, and the two men face off with just a bit of space and the barricade between them as Warrior pounds on his chest. Meanwhile, Duggan has clotheslined Undertaker over the top rope, but much to the amazement of Duggan, the deadman landed on his feet. From there, the two teams regroup and the match was underway.

Ultimate Warrior's final promo on "Macho King" Randy Savage before their Title vs. Career match at Wrestlemania 7 is a bit subdued, and a lot more coherent, than what you'd normally expect from the Warrior!

Ultimate Warrior: You can look in every conceivable direction, 'Macho King' Randy Savage, but you will not find what you are looking for. Because the thing that you seek most in this world right now, is nowhere to be found. No, it's not my World Wrestling Federation Championship belt, because that's right here around my waist, "Macho King!" No, what you are looking for is lost to this world forever. It's your courage, Macho King, and without it, you have NO shot at taking what belongs to me and all of my little warriors! You have NO shot at taking our World Wrestling Federation Championship belt! Because a man with no courage cannot be a 'macho' man. A man with no courage, IS NO MAN AT ALL! And since it takes a man to carry this World Wrestling Federation Championship belt with the pride it deserves, I am going to end your CAREER once and for all at Wrestlemania 7, "Macho King," because a being without courage doesn't need ONE!!

****If you participated in the predictions contest for this diary when it was originally started in the TEW 2016 forums, please wait until the round beginning with December 1991 shows to jump back in here. This will work on the honor system as I'm just not going to take the time to police whether or not someone predicted the last time around. I remember who won the prediction contests from the other thread but that's just about it since I've had a couple of other dynasties on here too and they kind of all run together. This is just for fun anyway. I know it's highly unlikely anyone would remember all the results, or maybe even any of the results, but you can never be certain. To anyone else who's interested in predicting, good luck!****

ink, I'm sorry to hear of your Father-in-Law. No one here has a schedule expectation for you or anything of the sorts. If you're only able to post once a week or so for a bit, we'll all get it and enjoy what you are able to send out.

Also, my brain can't comprehend Finlay tapping out to a Crossface Chicken Wing!

Thanks, Levinux.

And, yeah, the Crossface Chicken Wing is a pretty weak-looking finisher. However, I've always heard if it's done properly with the applier's hands locked, it's a legitimately effective hold.

Monsoon: WELCOME to Syracuse, New York! WELCOME to the sold-out Carrier Dome! And WELCOME EVERYONE to Wrestlemania 7. I'm Gorilla Monsoon, and I am joined as always by my broadcast partner Bobby "The Weas... I mean Bobby "The Brain" Heenan!

Heenan: You know, I should slap you, Monsoon!

Monsoon: Bigger men than you have tried, Brain!

Heenan: What??

Monsoon: We of course have an absolutely tremendous lineup of matches tonight, Brain! We have "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan going one on one with the Iraqi sympathizer Sergeant Slaughter! The "Hulkster" won the right to face Slaughter when he beat Slaughter's henchman, Nikita Koloff, in an outstanding steel cage match this past Monday, Brain.

Heenan: Hogan didn't beat anybody, Monsoon, he just got lucky when Slaughter accidentally took out Koloff with that chain.

Monsoon: Call it whatever you want, Brain, but Hogan won that match and now Sergeant Slaughter is in BIG trouble!

Heenan: We'll see about that!

Monsoon: We've also got your man, Mr. Perfect, defending the Intercontinental Championship once again against Big Boss Man, and you and yours are barred from ringside. Or else!

Heenan: Let me tell you something, Monsoon! When Mr. Perfect finishes wiping the floor with that mall cop Big Boss Man, Commissioner Graham is gonna be in a lot of trouble for sticking his nose in family business!

Monsoon: Mall cop?

Heenan: You heard me!

Monsoon: The WWF World Tag Team Championships are also on the line, when The Hart Foundation defends against the Legion of Doom. And of course our main event. The Ultimate Warrior puts his World Wrestling Federation Championship on the line against the career of "Macho King" Randy Savage!

Heenan: I cannot believe that Randy Savage agreed to that stipulation, Monsoon, The Ultimate Warrior is a crazy person! He'll do anything to win!

Monsoon: And Savage won't?

Heenan: You know what I mean!

Monsoon: I don't think anyone knows what you mean, Brain! Let's go down to "The Fink" for our opening match, here at Wrestlemania 7!"

Virgil vs. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase

wIKfVTh.jpgw/zMPMYY7.jpgxblkqeI.pngYzftxzZ.jpgw/ABfmL4J.jpg

We open the biggest show of the year with a match that's been a long time coming, as Virgil, accompanied by Tony Atlas, finally gets an opportunity to get his hands on "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. As expected, DiBiase is accompanied by his "accountant", I.R.S., and DiBiase refuses to get into the ring until the referee makes Atlas leave it.

Virgil goes right at DiBiase as soon as the bell rings, but DiBiase quickly exits the ring and has a short talk with I.R.S.. When he finally gets back in, Virgil goes right at him again, and again before he can make contact, DiBiase quickly slides out of the ring. He laughs obnoxiously and points at his temple, suggesting to the fans that he's very smart. He's not as smart as he thinks though, as he backs right into Tony Atlas. He starts to plead his innocence, but Atlas isn't having it and he chases DiBiase around the ring and right back into a waiting Virgil, who finally gets some of DiBiase.

Virgil drops DiBiase repeatedly with some quick feet and left-hand jabs, using his apparent boxing experience? to keep DiBiase out of sync. When DiBiase attempts to stand toe to toe with Virgil and try his hand at a little "boxing", he gets nothing but air. And after a wild swing and a miss, Virgil sends him over the top rope with a clothesline. Atlas is thrilled at ringside, but DiBiase is obviously not as he furiously slaps the ring apron as he regroups with I.R.S.. When DiBiase does get back in, Virgil has now switched from boxing to his amateur wrestling roots and tries a little chain wrestling, which he uses successfully to go behind DiBiase and take him down by the feet. DiBiase is fuming now and when Virgil goes in to try some more chain wrestling, he just gets poked in the eye. The referee warns DiBiase but the match continues.

DiBiase goes on a nice little run here, connecting with a Vertical Suplex, a Powerslam on an Irish Whip rebound, and finally a Piledriver to finish it up. This doesn't keep Virgil down though as he kicks out at two. Frustrated by Virgil's intestinal fortitude, DiBiase locks in the Million Dollar Dream. Virgil fights his way to the corner though and uses his feet to propel himself off the middle turnbuckle, rolling backward over DiBiase with the Million Dollar Dream still applied, but DiBiase now in a pinning predicament. It looks like Virgil will get the win, but the referee is being distracted by I.R.S., and the certain pinfall is broken up by Atlas! Atlas delivers a Military Press Slam on Virgil and exits the ring. I.R.S. lets the somehow completely unaware referee go, as DiBiase locks in The Million Dollar Dream once more, and Virgil succumbs to the submission at the 11:39 mark.

ZhFiDTs.jpg

Monsoon: This makes me sick! Can you not trust anyone these days?

Heenan: I guess everyone really does have a price for The Million Dollar Man. Ha ha ha!

Monsoon: WILL YOU STOP?!

Jake "The Snake" Roberts & Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. Power and Glory

6uWqSI4.jpgAuBAmgs.jpgxblkqeI.pngs1ropBS.jpgBKNqc1a.jpgw/upijNYz.jpg

Jake "The Snake" Roberts said he didn't need a partner to beat Power and Glory. Commissioner Graham said although he believed that was probably true, he felt it was in his best interests to have one anyway. Enter Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. Steamboat and Roberts had never seen eye to eye in the past, with Roberts putting Steamboat out of action with a DDT on the exposed arena floor just five years ago. So expecting them to see eye to eye as partners, was a huge ask on the part of the Commissioner.

Things were looking up from the start when Roberts began the match by having his way with the "Glory" portion of the opposing team, Paul Roma. Things were still looking up when Roma managed to make a tag to Hercules but Roberts had little trouble keeping his momentum going. Things started to take a turn for the worse though, when Hercules took control of the match with a Backbreaker and a Short-Arm Clothesline. Steamboat reached for a tag, and although Roberts had a clear opportunity to make it, he chose to go back after Hercules instead, only to be locked in a Bear Hug. Despite Roberts' refusal to tag him in, Steamboat continued to try to rally the fans from the apron, starting a "Jake The Snake" chant. Roberts fought out of the Bear Hug with some back elbows and hit a Swinging Knee Lift to down Hercules. Steamboat reached out for a tag again, and again Roberts refused, going back on the offensive himself.

That offense was short-lived though and Hercules regained control, locking in a Full Nelson. When Roberts didn't give up in short order, Hercules turned it into a Full Nelson Slam instead for a near fall. Hercules began to taunt Roberts, who finally started to crawl towards Steamboat. But when Roberts was almost close enough to make the tag, he stopped. Steamboat realized at this point that Roberts just wasn't going to tag him in, so he just stood emotionless on the apron as Roberts fought the handicap match he had wanted all along. Hercules then hooked Roberts by the head and pulled him towards Roma in the corner. Roma made the tag and ran along the apron, climbing up the adjacent top rope, as Hercules put Roberts in position for the Superplex portion of the Power-Plex. Roberts countered though and dropped Hercules to the canvas below with a Front Suplex. Roma jumped down and ran towards Roberts, who was still sitting on the top turnbuckle, but Roberts shoved him away and Roma tripped backward over Hercules who was still down on the mat. Roberts hopped down, and as Roma got back to his feet and ran at Roberts, "The Snake" connected with a quick kick to the stomach and dropped Roma with the DDT. He covered and got the three count at 16:04.

iGeppy7.jpg

After the match, Steamboat went over to check on Roberts since he'd taken quite the beating. Roberts seemed mildly receptive of Steamboat's concern, although the two did appear to exchange some less than friendly words at one point. The tension didn't last long though, as Steamboat pulled Roberts to his feet before heading towards the locker room, shaking his head in disappointment the whole way. Roberts celebrates as "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with Commissioner Billy Graham.

The Undertaker vs. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

0YsDiyO.jpgw/cUdFYH7.jpgxblkqeI.pngpSgqVy6.jpg

When The Undertaker absolutely annihilated The British Bulldog at last month's Saturday Night's Main Event: Lone Star Standoff, he put the entire WWF on notice. Yes, he had won the Royal Rumble match in January, which was quite a statement itself. But seeing him dominate an opponent the caliber of The British Bulldog in a one-on-one setting, was the final nail in the coffin so to speak.

If there were any doubters remaining as the bell rung for this one, they were immediately made into believers. Jim Duggan had never been so easily defeated in his entire career, as he was at the hands of The Undertaker here. There was nearly no offense to be had for Duggan, as he struggled to even stay on his feet. The Undertaker only left his feet on two occasions though. The first was during the one burst of offense Duggan had that lasted for more than 20 seconds, when he Clotheslined Undertaker over the top rope to the outside with Undertaker landing on his feet. The other was when Undertaker twisted Duggan's arm and climbed the turnbuckles backward without letting go, then tight-rope walked across the top rope before delivering a flying forearm to Duggan's upper back. Even the fans who'd been cheering for Duggan popped for that one, and The Undertaker followed it up with a Tombstone Piledriver for the victory at 10:49.

gZdyvUM.jpg

After the match, as he's been prone to do lately, The Undertaker was about to go for a second Tombstone Piledriver on his freshly beaten opponent. Bearer stopped him yet again though, again drawing his attention to the urn before leading him out of the arena.

WWF World Tag Team Championship

WXRj36D.jpg

The Hart Foundation © vs. The Legion of Doom

pD0b73b.jpgHfr9JPp.jpgxblkqeI.pngD6Tq7WK.jpgkz6sUWY.jpg

The Hart Foundation had successfully defended their WWF World Tag Team titles 31 times coming into this match. In those 31 defenses though, they had never defended against a team quite like the Legion of Doom. They had defended against teams larger than themselves sure, but never a team that was larger than them and their equal in experience.

Those two factors immediately bore themselves out too, when the match began and Animal used his size advantage to dominate Bret Hart. Then used his collective tag team experience with Hawk to keep Bret cut off from his corner. Hawk, in particular, seemed very motivated here, making it a point to be particularly brutal whenever possible, not forgetting that Bret nearly put him out of action with an arm injury last month. The Legion of Doom had a clear game plan and it was working flawlessly. That is until Bret used Hawk's aggressiveness against him, ducking a Clothesline, and cleverly pulling the top rope down causing Hawk to crash to the outside. Bret used this as an opportunity to tag in Neidhart, who singled out Hawk's previously injured arm as the Foundation took control.

Once Neidhart had things in hand, he tagged Bret back in and he went to work on Hawk's arm again, using armbars, hammerlocks, and arm wrenches to apply pressure. Even with Hawk's arm being practically a useless noodle hanging at his side by this point, he still had another and used it to nail Bret with a clothesline. With Bret's assault on his arm temporarily halted, Hawk tried to go for a tag to Animal. Neidhart ran around the ring though and pulled Animal off the apron before Hawk could get there. As Animal and Neidhart brawled on the outside, Bret came up behind Hawk as he was getting back to his feet and took his knee out from behind with a chop block. Next, he would hit a knee breaker and follow it up by applying the Sharpshooter. Hawk wasn't in the hold long, before Animal won his ringside battle with Neidhart and ran in to break it up. Animal pounded away at Bret, clubbing him to the mat repeatedly with huge forearm shots to the back. The referee was being very lenient here, as Animal was able to also hit a Powerslam before he was forced to leave the ring. Hawk crawled over to cover Bret but only got a two count.

With Bret still down from the Powerslam, Hawk was finally able to tag Animal back in, and he steamrolled through Bret for several minutes as Hawk recovered on the apron. After whipping Bret violently into the corner chest first, Animal followed him in and lifted Bret onto his shoulders for the Doomsday Device. With some of the fans booing and others cheering, Hawk climbed to the top as Animal got into position. Hawk came flying off for the Clothesline but Bret ducked and Hawk hit the canvas hard, right on his injured arm. Animal dumped Bret backward off his shoulders in frustration, but Bret almost landed on his feet and rolled Animal up from behind for a sudden three count to retain at 15:49.

CEKZoc0.jpg

Once the dust had settled after the match, Bret Hart asked for a microphone. Confused, Neidhart listened intently as Bret began to speak.

Bret: Jim. You're the best tag team partner that a guy could ever ask for. Through thick and thin, you've always had my back and you know I'll always have yours. But...

Bret took a long pause before continuing, like he wasn't sure he should, but knew he had to.

Bret: But, it's time for me to move on from The Hart Foundation.

Now, Neidhart had moved from confused to completely perplexed. Bret continued.

Bret: I feel that we've accomplished all that we can in the tag team division, and you know Jim that I've always had a dream to be the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion. It is my ultimate goal as a wrestler and I think it's time for me to start actively seeking it out. And I can't possibly do that if I've still got my mind on defending these titles. So, it is with a heavy heart, that I'm forfeiting my half of the World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship, and moving on to full-time singles competition!

Bret extended his hand to Neidhart, who paused, but begrudgingly accepted and the two hugged. Bret then handed Neidhart his title and left him standing alone in the ring with a Tag Team title on each shoulder, as fans and Neidhart gave him a big round of applause.

Texas Bullrope Match

The Texas Tornado vs. Terry Funk

IYQfaUB.jpgxblkqeI.png3qzcoj1.jpg

The Texas Bullrope match is a rarity in professional wrestling, especially the WWF, with this being the first since 1978. So when The Texas Tornado challenged Terry Funk to such a match for Wrestlemania 7, fans weren't sure what to expect. What they got was a violent, bloody mess of a match where neither man could really be called a winner.

Senior Referee Earl Hebner was assigned to this one, and he learned quickly what he was in for when Funk ran him down on his way to attacking Tornado before the bullrope could be attached to either man. Funk assaulted Tornado with the bell on the rope, immediately busting him open. He then wrapped the rope around Tornado's neck and tossed him over the top rope, effectively "hanging" him. This went on for at least 20 seconds before Hebner could pry Funk away. Tornado fell to the floor and Funk climbed outside, putting one end of the rope on his own wrist and the other on Tornado's. Hebner finally called for the bell. To win this particular variety of Texas Bullrope match, you must successfully drag your opponent to all four corners in succession, touching each top turnbuckle before moving on to the next. If the sequence of four is "broken", which is defined at the referee's discretion, then you must start over.

In other words, Funk couldn't possibly win the match from the arena floor, but he chose to stay there anyway. He rammed Tornado's head into the apron repeatedly, before whipping him into the steel barricade and slamming his head repeatedly into that as well. He finished this time outside by shoving Tornado shoulder first into the steel ring post, then using the rope to pull him into it several more times while reaching through from the opposite side of the ring. Finally, Funk put Tornado back in the ring and drug him to the first three corners with ease. Tornado wasn't putting up any fight at this point and it looked like Funk could easily win. He stopped on his own though and tossed Tornado back outside to break the sequence. Funk followed and began pulling back the padded mats that covered the arena floor at ringside, as Heenan cheered him on on commentary.

Tornado was coming around now, the formerly pouring blood now having slowed to a trickle, as Funk set up for a Piledriver on the exposed concrete. He got him up, but Tornado struggled back down and reversed the attempt into a Back Body Drop on Funk, slamming him into the concrete as he yelled in pain. Now it was Tornado's turn to inflict a little damage. After hitting Funk with everything that wasn't nailed down at ringside, including busting him open with a wicked-looking ring bell shot, Tornado took the action back inside. Once there, he quickly took Funk down with his Tornado Punch finisher and hit a Piledriver of his own to add insult to injury. Then, instead of going for the win, he latched on to Funk's head with the Iron Claw. Funk struggled for a bit, but eventually "passed out."

With Funk now incapacitated, Tornado set out to win the match. He got to the first two corners without issue but hadn't noticed that Funk had also managed to touch both turnbuckles as they passed. As he approached the third, Funk began to pull on the rope from his end and a tug of war ensued. Tornado won, but in doing so propelled Funk towards the third corner where he was, and both men hit the third turnbuckle almost simultaneously. Funk ended up on the side nearest to the fourth and final turnbuckle, and quickly realizing this, the veteran sprinted in that direction. This tipped Tornado off to the fact that Funk must have touched all of the first three turnbuckles too, so he violently pulled on the rope, dragging Funk to the mat. Tornado quickly scrambled towards the fourth corner, but Funk got up and nailed him from behind with a low blow just as his hand is within reach. Funk then took the slack in the middle of the rope and began to whip Tornado across the back with it. After four or five good shots, he drilled him in the face with the bell again, his head wound from earlier now bleeding worse than ever. Funk then slapped the fourth turnbuckle thinking he'd won. The referee considered the sequence "broken" by this point though, since so much time was spent between touching the final two corners, and he waved off Funk.

Livid, Funk shoved Hebner down before tossing Tornado back outside and dragging him to where he'd rolled back the ringside mats earlier. With Heenan egging him on on commentary, Funk finally hit the Piledriver on the exposed concrete that he'd wanted to since the match began. Exhausted now, Funk didn't move much for several minutes himself. Finally though, he managed to get Tornado back in the ring, and at 16:14 he slapped the fourth and final turnbuckle for the "victory."

iGeppy7.jpg

As soon as the final bell rung, WWF medical personnel rushed to the ring to treat both men. Funk, being the psycho he is, almost got into a fight with them as he refused treatment. He stumbled on to the back, but Tornado was eventually taken out on a stretcher.

Sid vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

yJ54Ll3.jpgxblkqeI.pngJVQCHYy.jpg

Never one to back down from a fight, Roddy Piper didn't take too kindly to DiBiase's threats that Sid didn't like people "sticking their noses in his business", so he took it upon himself to straight-up challenge Sid for Wrestlemania 7. Sid, being the much larger, younger man of the two, accepted the challenge in search of his first WWF PPV win. And what better stage to get that win on than Wrestlemania!

When Piper came out Sid was already in the ring, and he went right after the big man, backing him into the corner with alternating left jabs to the stomach and right hands to the head. In the corner, Piper lit up Sid's chest with some very loud chops. Sid didn't seem phased though, as he shoved Piper down to the mat like he was nothing. He then tossed Piper nearly halfway across the ring into the opposite corner, before taunting him to bring it on. Piper did so, charging at Sid only to be downed with a big boot. Sid then hit some clubbing forearms to the back, before grabbing Piper by the hair and dropping to his knees, slamming Piper's face into the mat. Sid then hit the ropes and connected with a big Leg Drop to the back of Piper's neck, covering him for a two count.

Eventually, Piper made a comeback, hitting an Inverted Atomic Drop that he followed up with a Clothesline. Sid stumbled but didn't fall, that is until Piper hit a blatant low blow that the referee ignored for some reason. With Sid now down, Piper climbed to the middle turnbuckle and hit a Diving Knee Drop for a two count. Piper would then whip Sid into the corner and hit some more chops and a flurry of jabs causing Sid to stumble out of the corner. When he did, Piper used the turnbuckles as a sort of step ladder and applied the Sleeper Hold to Sid. The referee began a five-count, warning Piper that he couldn't just sit on the ropes while Sid was in the Sleeper, so Piper just jumped up on Sid's back like he was getting a piggyback ride.

Eventually, Sid dropped down to one knee and then to both as it looked like Piper might get the win. Sid got a sudden burst of energy though, and quickly stood back up, ramming Piper back first into the corner. Two or three more bumps into the corner and Sid was free. He Clotheslined Piper over the top rope to the outside and took a breather as the referee started the 10 count. By the time the referee had made it to five, Sid had joined Piper outside. He drove Piper's back into the ring apron multiple times, then picked Piper up in the Chokeslam position and tossed him into the edge of the ring apron with a sickening thud. He rolled Piper back in under the bottom rope and joined him in the ring just before the referee's count reached 10. Back in the ring now, Sid wasted no time going for the Powerbomb, hitting it for the three count at 14:55. Sid gets his first WWF PPV win in his first Wrestlemania match.

We now go backstage, where "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Sgt. Slaughter before his match with Hulk Hogan.

Okerlund: Sergeant Slaughter, I want ...

Slaughter: I want you to stand at attention, you piece of human waste, and listen up! Hulk Hogan, when everyone else looks at you, they see America! They see the red, the white and the blue! But you know what I see, Gene Okerlund, when I look at Hulk Hogan? I SEE AN INFIDEL. A foreigner who has invaded my soil! A MAGGOT, who has no idea what it's like to be in combat! And tonight, in front of these 50,000 pukes and the entire world watching from home, I'll give my glorious leader Saddam Hussein, his biggest victory to date in the war on America, when I end Hulkamania! Once...AND FOR ALL!

eXz6xLS.jpgSpxMPhZ.jpg

We now go to the other locker room as the WWF's newest interviewer, Missy Hyatt, talks to "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan.

Hyatt: Wow, Hulk Hogan! I cannot believe it! Hulk, I am a HUGE fan, you know? I've got so many of your posters and your little action figure guys, that I coul....sorry, sorry! I got a little carried away there. I am a professional. Hulk Hogan, the time has come for your match with Sergeant Slaughter, we are just minutes away!

Hogan: Well you know somethin', Missy Hyatt! We are down to the nitty-gritty, and in just a few short minutes, dude, Hulkamania is gonna run wild on that traitor Sergeant Slaughter! Sergeant Slaughter, you may have pledged your allegiance to Saddam Hussein, but I've pledged my allegiance to the red, white, and blue. To the stars and the stripes. And to aallll the little Hulkamaniacs out there, jack! And when I pledge my allegiance to something, I give it my entire heart and my entire soul. All the blood, sweat, and tears in my body, Missy, and if Sergeant Slaughter thinks he can beat that, jack, THEN HE'S GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN'! So whatcha gonna do, Sergeant Slaughter, when all my little Hulkamaniacs, and the good ole U.S. of A, RUN WILD..ON..YOU??!!

Hogan stomps out of frame towards the ring.

Hyatt: Woohoo, go get 'em, Hulk!

Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter w/ General Adnan

SpxMPhZ.jpgxblkqeI.pngv4ZnmxB.jpgw/zZxgfZr.jpg

The time for talking was over, as Sgt. Slaughter entered the arena first, with a huge chant of "USA!, USA!" drowning out his introduction by Howard Finkel and his entrance music. When "Real American" hit the arena PA system and Hogan came out waving a huge American flag, the fan response was even more deafening, nearly drowning out Monsoon and Heenan on commentary. When he makes it to the ringside area, Hogan hands the flag off to an attendant and makes a beeline for Adnan, who's waving an Iraqi flag on the opposite side of the ring. Slaughter tries a sneak attack, but Hogan sees it coming and starts chasing Slaughter around the ring. Halfway through the second lap, Slaughter hurries back in under the bottom rope and Hogan follows him right into the trap. Slaughter puts the boots to Hogan and the match is underway.

Slaughter drilled hogan with stomp after stomp, not letting him come close to getting off the canvas until finally, Hogan rolled out of the ring. While Referee Earl Hebner was admonishing Slaughter for not stopping while Hogan was in the ropes, Adnan hit Hogan from behind with a steel chair. He no-sold it though, and as Hogan went to chase, Slaughter attacked again, knocking him to the ringside mats with a Double Ax Handle to the back. Slaughter put Hogan back in the ring and continued his onslaught with three consecutive elbow drops to the lower back. Every time Hogan would try to get back up, Slaughter would just stomp on his fingers to put him back down. Slaughter continued to work on the lower back of Hogan, hoping to weaken him for the Camel Clutch.

Slaughter couldn't manage to get Hogan in the hold though before he made a comeback, reversing an Irish whip attempt and knocking Slaughter down with a shoulder block on the rebound. When Slaughter got right back up, Hogan whipped him in again, this time hitting a big running Clothesline that took Slaughter down with authority. Hogan went for the pin, but Slaughter kicked out. Next, Hogan hit a big Atomic Drop and went for the pin, but Slaughter kicked out. Hogan then whipped him into the corner and climbed up on the second turnbuckle, hitting 10 huge right hands as the crowd counted along. Directly from there, Hogan grabbed Slaughter by the hair and ran him across the ring before slamming his head into the opposite top turnbuckle, sending Slaughter flying. Then Hogan set up for what looked like a Boston Crab, but he just ended up catapulting Slaughter into the corner, with his head bouncing off the ring post. Hogan covered again, but once again Slaughter kicked out at 2.

Hogan slapped his hands together to insinuate he thought it should have been a three count, before doing something he rarely, if ever, does. Going to the top rope! As Hogan stepped out onto the apron and began his ascent up the turnbuckles, you could tell he was out of his element, almost falling at least twice during the four-step trip. As he was about to pull his second foot up onto the top rope, General Adnan climbed onto the apron and started pulling on it. This distracted the "Hulkster" just long enough for Slaughter to catch him with a big, right hand, and send him careening to the canvas with an overhead slam. Finally, with Hogan writhing in pain from his top rope fall, Slaughter was able to apply the Camel Clutch.

For what seemed like an eternity, Hogan was helpless in the Camel Clutch, regularly fading in and out of consciousness, but never for long enough for his arm to drop three times. You could see the frustration in Slaughter's eyes with every second that went by without the bell ringing, but Hogan refused to quit. With all the Hulkamaniacs screaming his name and chanting "U.S.A.," Hogan was able to get up to one knee, and then two. As Hogan made it all the way to his feet, Slaughter was still hanging on. Hogan ran a few steps forward, then fell backward onto Slaughter breaking the hold.

The damage had been done in the Camel Clutch though and Slaughter was back up first, picking Hogan up and connecting with a Piledriver. Slaughter would then grab the Iraqi flag from Adnan at ringside and drape it over Hogan before going for the pin. Hogan emphatically kicked out at two though and ripped the Iraqi flag into pieces. Slaughter went to attack but his shots had no effect, and Hogan got back to his feet. A few more shots by Slaughter were also no-sold by Hogan as he wagged his finger at Slaughter! Slaughter went in for another right, but Hogan blocked it and sent him into the ropes for a Big Boot. It didn't knock Slaughter down though, so Hogan signaled for the Body Slam. The fans were going crazy as Hogan slammed him to the mat. However, Referee Earl Hebner had gotten a little too close to the action and was knocked down and out by Slaughter's foot as Hogan lifted him. Hogan didn't notice this had happened and hit the Big Leg Drop anyway, only to be confused to find Hebner out when there was no count. Hogan was trying to wake Hebner, when suddenly...

a masked man, dressed in all black attacks the "Hulkster" from behind, drilling him in the lower back with what looked like a lead pipe. With Hogan down, the masked man slapped Hebner and Slaughter around a little bit to wake them and made a hasty exit. Slaughter and Hebner came around at about the same time, neither man aware of what had happened, and Slaughter applied the Camel Clutch once more. With Hogan in severe pain from not only the lead pipe shot to the lower back but also from the seemingly never-ending Camel Clutch earlier, it wasn't long until Hogan passed out. Hebner raised and dropped his arm three times giving Slaughter the win by "submission" at 19:43.

With the crowd still reeling from the end of the Hogan/Slaughter match, and the attack on Hogan by some masked man with a lead pipe, Kamala entered the arena with Slick, signaling the beginning of the 3,000-pound tag team match.

This was a decent match for what it was, effectively a bathroom break for fans in attendance as they prepared for the two huge championship matches still to come. The bulk of the offense, pun intended, went to the heel side in this one, with The Natural Disasters and Kamala doing the majority of the damage. What little offense the face side did get, came mostly from The British Bulldog, who almost won the match after managing to get Typhoon up for his Running Powerslam. Earthquake broke it up though and Haku went on to win the match for his team shortly after, pinning Greg Valentine after a Savate kick at 10:05.

WWF Intercontinental Championship

O4qAYjf.jpg

Mr. Perfect © vs. The Big Boss Man

8t1EkTu.jpgxblkqeI.png0DVmuB8.jpg

It was time for Mr. Perfect to put up or shut up. No more outside interference, no more shenanigans. Any positive outcome for Boss Man would result in a new WWF Intercontinental Champion! If Perfect was worried though, he sure didn't show it, as he cockily strutted to the ring, sans Bobby Heenan, and hopped over the top rope like it wasn't even there. He then talked some trash to the crowd before spitting his gum out and batting it away without looking at it. "Hard Times" ushered out the Big Boss Man next, and he appeared to be in a pretty good mood himself, knowing a solo Mr. Perfect was finally the only thing between him and the Intercontinental Championship.

Unlike their previous encounter at Wrestlemania, Boss Man charged right at Perfect as soon as he got in the ring. Perfect stepped aside though and Boss Man caught himself before running into the turnbuckle. When he turned around though, Perfect slapped him hard in the face. When Perfect saw how pissed this made Boss Man, and rightfully so, he jumped over the top rope to the outside. Boss Man didn't seem like he planned to follow, but when Perfect yelled some nearly inaudible comment about his mother, Boss Man gave chase. It was a setup though, and Perfect stopped as Boss Man had almost caught up to him, nailing him in the ribs with a pair of brass knuckles just out of Referee Danny Davis' sight.

Back in the ring now, Perfect whipped Boss Man hard into the corner and he dropped to his knees in agony. Perfect stood him back up in the corner though and tore Boss Man's shirt open, before hitting him with three or four vicious backhand chops to his now exposed skin. Perfect followed that up with a snapmare out of the corner and locked in a Reverse Chin Lock. Occasionally he'd release it for long enough to jab Boss Man in the ribs before reapplying it. Boss Man eventually made some leeway towards fighting his way out, but Perfect released the hold again, stepped back, and hit his patented Rolling Neck Snap. This usually meant Perfect was about to go for the Perfect Plex, but this time he put Boss Man in an Abdominal Stretch instead. He once again used a hold as an opportunity to target Boss Man's injured ribs, clubbing him with repeated forearms there with his free arm. After nearly two minutes in the hold, Boss Man was able to get a handful of Perfect's hair, forcing him to release the hold.

With the hold broken, Boss Man finally got a little offense in, first connecting with a huge right-hand uppercut to floor Perfect, and following it up with a Clothesline to floor him again. Next, he whipped Perfect so hard into the corner that he bounced off the turnbuckles doing a backflip to the canvas. Boss Man smiled as he grabbed Perfect by the hair with both hands, picking him off the ground and swinging him round and round before tossing him aside like a sack of potatoes. This was a real crowd-pleaser too, as a massive applause broke out. A quick gouge to the eyes by Perfect shut them right up though, and Boss Man stumbled away as Perfect hit a flawless Standing Dropkick. It was now finally time for the Perfect Plex as Perfect hooked the head and leg of Boss Man.

Heenan: That's it, Perfect! Do it now! Put this chump away for good!

Perfect did do it, but there was no count by the referee Danny Davis since Boss Man's foot was under the bottom rope. Heenan was so livid in the broadcast booth, that his headset had to be cut out for fear he might say something that wasn't family-friendly. Once he realized no count was coming, Perfect released the hold and began to argue with Referee Danny Davis. He was right up in Davis' face, screaming as spit was flying everywhere. Heenan's mic had been restored on commentary by this point and he pleaded with Perfect to take it easy.

Heenan: BE CAREFUL, PERFECT! HE'LL DISQUALIFY YOU AND YOU'LL LOSE THE TITLE! DON'T TOUCH HIM WHATEVER YOU DO! PLEASE!

Perfect did touch him though, violently shoving Davis into the ropes.

Heenan: THAT'S IT! HE'S DISQUALIFIED, HE'S LOST IT!

He wasn't disqualified though. Davis, a former wrestler himself, chose to shove him back instead, causing him to turn right into a Boss Man Slam. Davis slid quickly down to the mat and counted a fast three for the new WWF Intercontinental Champion, The Big Boss Man! Match time, 16:28.

Heenan: THAT'S NOT FAIR, THAT'S NOT FAIR! DAVIS SHOULD BE FIRED RIGHT NOW AND BOSS MAN SHOULD BE DISQUALIFIED! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! JACK TUNNEY WILL BE HEARING ABOUT THIS! THIS IS NOT OVER!

The Ultimate Warrior © vs. "Macho King" Randy Savage

LrRaKZ7.jpgxblkqeI.pngOXg5Es9.jpgw/2CI5XZj.jpg

The moment of truth had arrived for the "Macho King" Randy Savage, as he was carried to the ring by servants on a large platform with seats affixed for him and his "queen", Sherri. Win, and he's the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion. Lose, and his wrestling career is finished.

The moment of revenge was at hand for The Ultimate Warrior, as he uncharacteristically walked to the ring. This obviously caught Savage by surprise, along with everyone else, and by the look on Savage's face it kinda freaked him out a little too.

Heenan: I told you he was crazy, Monsoon! Why in the world isn't he running? What's he up to? Look out, Savage, there's no telling what this nut will do.

After several minutes of pacing back and forth on the outside, Savage finally got up the nerve to enter the ring. Warrior immediately hit a Clothesline and followed it up with a two-handed choke, before tossing Savage aside, pumping his arms up and down for the crowd. Savage got right back up though, and took a wild swing at Warrior who ducked and grabbed the "Macho King," hitting an Atomic Drop that sent his highness over the top rope to the floor. This caused Sherri to get up on the apron and start screaming at the Warrior, who grabs her by the hair and picks her up in a Military Press. After pressing her a few times, Warrior tosses her over the top rope into the arms of Savage on the outside, taking them both out.

Warrior made his way ringside afterward to go after Savage, but the "Macho King" was playing possum a bit and caught Warrior with a quick right to the stomach. He then slammed Warrior's face into the announce table and rolled him back into the ring, leaving most of his upper body dangling over the edge of the apron. Savage then hit a stiff elbow to Warrior's chest and followed it up with a measured kick to Warrior's temple. When Savage climbed back into the ring, he distracted Hebner long enough for Sherri to get a few cheap shots in with her shoe for good measure. Warrior eventually stumbled back to his feet, only to be met with a few of Savage's patented "measured" punches. Warrior didn't go down though, and Savage made his way to the top rope. He came off the top going for a Crossbody, but Warrior caught him. But instead of going for a slam or something, Warrior just stood him on his feet and slapped him in the face.

That really pissed Savage off and he jumped over the top rope to the floor, grabbed a steel chair, and tossed it at Warrior in the ring. It missed Warrior though, and as Hebner was removing that chair, Sherri came at Warrior from behind with another, but he saw it coming and scared her off. Savage then tried to attack from behind, but Warrior saw that coming too and leveled Savage with a hard clothesline. Savage rolled to the corner and Warrior followed, stomping him a couple of times before standing him up and whipping him into the opposite corner. He came charging in but Savage moved and he plowed into the empty turnbuckles, his momentum taking him out of the ring to the floor. Savage then went up and hit a Double Axehandle to Warrior off the top rope to the arena floor. Savage rolled back in the ring to taunt and Sherri tried attacking Warrior again, but he simply shoved her to the floor this time and got back in the ring.

Savage stomped on Warrior as he was rolling back in, but Warrior no sold most of the stomps and began to jog in place, pumping his fist up and down into the air. Savage hit a big right hand, but Warrior no-sold it again and hit the ropes, coming off with a Flying Shoulder Block to down Savage. Savage got right back up though, and Warrior came off the ropes again, hitting another Flying Shoulder Block. With Savage up again, Warrior went for a third Flying Shoulder Block, but Savage side-stepped it, and Warrior crashed to the canvas. Savage then spit on Warrior and picked him up, applying a Sleeper Hold. After a couple of minutes, Warrior managed to fight out of the Sleeper and ran off the ropes attempting another Flying Shoulder Block. Savage moved again, and when Warrior got back up, they ran at each other with the same idea, and a double Clothesline gave both men a much-needed breather.

Once both men were back to their feet, Warrior quickly rolled Savage up in a small package. Sherri distracted the referee though, and by the time Hebner got the chance to count, Savage kicked out at two. Back to their feet now, Savage hits his patented running knee to Warrior's back, causing him to barrel into Hebner, knocking him down. Savage and Sherri took this opportunity to cheat of course, with Savage holding the Warrior from behind while Sherri hit him in the gut with the scepter. Sherri exited the ring as Hebner recovered and Savage hit a Body Slam. He then called for the Flying Elbow Drop, twirling his way to the turnbuckles with his finger in the air. He climbed to the top and soared to the canvas, connecting with the elbow on Warrior's chest. He didn't go for the cover though, as he went back to the top again and connected with a second Flying Elbow Drop. And sure enough, he went up for a third time and landed yet another Flying Elbow Drop, going for the cover this time.

Heenan: That's it. We've got a new World Wrestling Fe...

At the last possible instant, Warrior unbelievably kicks out!

Heenan: What?? No, no, no, no, no!!

Monsoon: I don't believe it! Utter confusion on the face of Macho King as well!

Heenan: He's in shock, Monsoon!!

He was in shock, right along with everyone else, since very few men had ever kicked out of even one Flying Elbow Drop, much less three! Savage didn't waste too much time though, and went right back on the attack, nailing Warrior in the back with several Double Ax Handles as he crawled towards the ropes. Warrior made it to the ropes and began to shake them violently, drawing energy from the massive roar of the fans. He turned to Savage, who nailed him with another hard right hand, but Warrior shook it off and flattened Savage with a Clothesline. Then another, and another! Finally, he pulled Savage back to his feet and hit the ropes looking for a Flying Shoulder Block. Savage was able to grab referee Earl Hebner though, and pull him in the path of the Warrior instead, almost knocking Hebner out of the ring. Savage was exhausted though, and couldn't really take advantage of the opportunity he had created. Someone else could though...

<details> <summary>SPOILERS</summary>

Suddenly you could see everyone in the crowd turn their attention to the isle, as The Undertaker slowly made his way towards the ring accompanied by Paul Bearer. Bearer was carrying the urn as usual, but he was also carrying a medium-sized velvet bag with a rope tie.

0YsDiyO.jpgcUdFYH7.jpg

The Ultimate Warrior mirrored Savage's look of confusion from earlier, when Warrior kicked out of three Flying Elbow Drops, as he stared in awe at the deadman as he climbed into the ring. Paul Bearer was holding the urn high above his head, yelling with delight as Warrior approached The Undertaker. As soon as Warrior stepped in his direction, Undertaker grabbed him by the throat before delivering a Tombstone Piledriver! Bearer then yelled for Undertaker and he exited the ring to a chorus of boos. Savage made it back to his feet and slowly climbed to the top turnbuckle. He pointed at Bearer and Undertaker at ringside, nodding his head in approval at what they'd done. Savage then flew into orbit, connecting with by far the best-looking Elbow Drop of the four he had now hit, and covered Warrior. Sherri, who had been shaking Hebner ever since Undertaker left the ring, finally got him to come around. Hebner crawled towards Savage and Warrior, counting a slow three at 15:05. Your winner and new World Wrestling Federation Champion, "Macho King" Randy Savage!

HHSJSTV.jpg

<hr>

As Savage and Sherri celebrate his newly won title, Undertaker and Bearer re-enter the ring. Savage slowly backs away as Undertaker steps near him, but Bearer stops Undertaker and steps forward to shake hands with Savage.

Monsoon: Savage has made a deal with Death himself to win the World Wrestling Federation Championship!

Heenan: Didn't you hear him when he accepted Warrior's challenge, Monsoon? He said it himself, by hook or by crook!

Savage and Sherri exit the ring as Undertaker picks Warrior up and hits another Tombstone Piledriver. Bearer now unties the velvet bag and removes a neatly folded piece of plastic. As he begins to unfold it, it doesn't take long to realize it's a body bag, and he lays it on the mat and unzips it.

By this point Monsoon and Heenan had gone silent, never speaking again on the broadcast.

The Undertaker rolls Warrior into the body bag, zips it up, and carries it out of the arena, as the camera zooms in on several terrified children crying in the crowd.

Post-show notes:

- This was by far my highest show grade of the save so far.

- For fun, I made a backup copy of my save and did a few test runs of the event to see what kind of grades the matches would get. **I never tweaked anything on my actual save based on the test runs in the copied save, I just did it out of curiosity/for fun. The scores/results you see above are from the only time I ran the event on my actual save.**The Slaughter/Hogan match scored better on all of the test runs on the copied save than it did on the real save, usually scoring 97 or 98 compared to the 88 it scored on the real save. The Warrior/Savage match on the other hand, almost always scored worse on the copied save test runs than it did on the real save.

- The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage have great chemistry as opponents.

- Buck(John Nord/The Berzerker) suffered an injury in a pre-show 8-man tag team match. The injury was caused by a Brian Knobbs botch, who now has backstage heat as a result.

- Roddy Piper was not very happy about putting over Sid.

- Hawk was wasted again in the tag title match, so it's a good thing I changed my mind about putting the titles on LOD. That was my original plan, but I decided to go with the "Hart Foundation wins, but Bret says they've done all they can, so he forfeits his share of the titles to become a singles wrestler" thing as I was booking the event.

- Terry Funk and The Texas Tornado have great chemistry as opponents.

- Unfortunately, the feud will have to be put on hold since The Texas Tornado was wasted again, and was already down to his "last strike" before rehab. The timing of the rehab trip couldn't have been better though, since the brutality of the match gives me the perfect excuse to write him off tv.

- Greg Valentine suffered a Partially Ruptured Pectoralis Major Tendon in the 10-man tag team match.

Top 10 in-ring performances of the night:

Randy Savage - 100

Hulk Hogan - 96

Roddy Piper - 94

Ted DiBiase - 93

Mr. Perfect - 92

Jake Roberts - 90

Ricky Steamboat - 89

The Undertaker - 89

The Ultimate Warrior - 88

Big Boss Man/Terry Funk - 86

The Next Day:

- Since each man was down to his "last strike", I've sent both Hawk and The Texas Tornado to rehab. Hawk will be gone for 4 months and was happy about the situation. His behavior improved, and hopefully, it will be enough to get LOD back in the title picture when he returns. The Texas Tornado will be gone for 4 months also. Not only did it supposedly improve his behavior too, but he is loyal to me now and we have a "strong friendship".

- I had to give Roddy Piper a bonus of a little over $60,000 to settle him down over losing to Sid.

- Buck's(John Nord/The Berzerker) Glenoid Labrum Tear was supposed to cost him almost six months, but I opted for a low-risk surgery to try and speed things up. It cut his injury-time from 5 months, 3 weeks, to 3 months 2 weeks.

- Greg Valentine will be able to work through his Partially Ruptured Pectoralis Major Tendon. He should be back to 100% in about two weeks.

- Hulk Hogan thinks Tony Atlas needs to learn how to sell.

- The Ultimate Warrior says Paul Roma doesn't connect with the fans.

- The U.S. recession is now over, and the U.S. economy is now "rising".
