TCW The War to Settle the Score

Sunday, Week 4 February

41,432 people in Dallas, Texas

Opening Match

Twenty-Five Man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal

TCW Television Title Shot On The Line

Entrants: Elmo Benson, Chris Flynn, Danny Fonzarelli, Dazzling Dave Diamond, Dean Daniels, Doc Hammond, Eddie Peak, Elliot Thomas, Flying Jimmy Foxx, Freddy Huggins, Human Arsenal, Jeremie Courtney, Joshua Taylor, Kip Keenan, Marc Speed, Mr. Lucha III, Nick Booth, One Man Army, Riley McManus, Roderick Remus, Tana the Mighty, The Architect, The Historian, Troy Tornado, Yuri Yoshihara

The War to Settle the Score started in a very traditional Southern way. A battle royale. Not a rumble, just a classic battle royale to A: get more people on the card, which is important, but also it is a hallmark of big southern shows. The match was a pretty standard battle royal. Not a lot of big spots with the drama being in who-is-going to eliminate who. Nick Booth got to be big and physical and toss a lot of people out.

Order of Elimination

Yuri Yoshihara by Mr. Lucha III

Elliot Thomas by Nick Booth

Marc Speed by The Historian

Dean Daniels by The Historian

The Historian by Mr. Lucha III

Flying Jimmy Foxx by Nick Booth

In a decent match, Human Arsenal won a battle royal in 20:17. The other members of the 'final four' were Mr. Lucha III, Kip Keenan and The Architect, with Mr. Lucha III being the final elimination. Nick Booth got the most eliminations over the course of the match.

Edd Stone versus "Shocking" Matt Hocking

We came out of the battle royal with a high-quality match between two good pro wrestlers. They weren’t trying to steal the show, but they were out there telling a good story. Matt Hocking the arrogant heel and Edd Stone the fun babyface. It made for a really good blend. It was a more open match, a lot of back and forth action. Edd hit a beautiful springboard moonsault to a standing Matt Hocking that almost got the win. Matt hit a delayed brain buster that almost got him the win, but ultimately, it was the Party’s Over

In a good match, Edd Stone defeated Matt Hocking in 11:04 by pinfall with a Party's Over.

Electric Dreamer versus Foxxy LaRue

The finals for the World Women’s Championship tournament was up next. Luchadora Electric Dreamer taking on Foxxy LaRue. The fans have still struggled to get into the women’s matches, but mostly because they are still getting to know the talent. They are liking the matches outside of not knowing the women. They worked very hard in the match, with both women going through all of their big moves to try and get the crowd invested and by the end they had the crowd with them. Electric Dreamer hit her sunset flip bomb she calls the Electric Blue Bomb to get the win and become the first ever TCW World Women’s Champion.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Electric Dreamer defeated Foxxy LaRue in 9:48 by pinfall with an Electric Blue Bomb. Electric Dreamer wins the TCW Women's title.

The Wild Ones versus The Elite

The Wild Ones and The Elite were up next and The Wild Ones continue their big push. This was a wild match, channeling back to The Wild Ones Japan run and Nate and Eddie’s CGC run. It felt very Southern as well, which is right in line with the TCW style. Lots of wild brawling around the ring and the referee struggling to maintain order. The crowd was really enjoying it and as has been the case in all of the Wild Ones wins, Findlay O’Farraday picked up the win with an Atomic Spinebuster.

In a decent match, The Wild Ones defeated The Elite in 11:02 when Findlay O'Farraday pinned Nate Johnson with an Atomic Spinebuster.

T-Bone Bright versus Mighty Mo versus Wolf Hawkins

The Triple Threat match was the story of T-Bone and Mighty Mo both trying to get their hands on Wolf and Wolf working to make sure they ended up fighting each other. The veteran was successful. T-Bone and Mo ended up going at each other while Wolf played opossum in the corner. T-Bone hit a big Pounce on Mo and that’s when Wolf slid out of nowhere and hit his Full Moon Rising to get the win.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Wolf Hawkins defeated T-Bone Bright and Mighty Mo in 13:58 when Wolf Hawkins pinned T-Bone Bright with a Full Moon Rising. Wolf Hawkins carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Sammy Bach versus "The Assassin" Ernest Youngman

Before the match even started, Youngman jumped Bach. There was no opening shine. There was just Ernest Youngman going into assassin mode. The crowd was stunned with the way Ernest dismantled Sammy Bach. He attacked Bach’s lower back. Lots of back breakers. Even a Bow-and-Arrow lock that looked vicious. Bach did make a big comeback and the people were really rocking with him. This is what they wanted to see – Bach doing what he does best. Ernest took big bumps for him too, but then Ernest hit a big butterfly backbreaker that looked like he has been watching tapes from Japan. He made the cover, got both of his feet on the ropes, and got the three count much to the shock of everyone.

In a decent match, Ernest Youngman defeated Sammy Bach in 12:55 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage.

We go backstage to where Jay Chord is in his private locker room. He looks like he has been getting ready for his big match with Aaron Andrews. Jay paced back and forth as he talked about his birthright. About his inheritance. About how the TCW World Heavyweight Championship is his for the taking. It is meant for him. He was born for this and he knows there are people who hate that. There are people all over the world who look at his birthright and roll their eyes but this is all he’s known. He was born to be champion and tonight he takes his rightful place.

Devine Fortune versus The Behemoths ©

The World Tag Team Title Match was the story of the underdogs, Devine Fortune, continuing to surprise The Behemoths. The two big men couldn’t get their hands on Devine Fortune, couldn’t slow the match down and use their power and the crowd was really behind Devine Fortune, until Killer Shark literally swatted Chance Fortune down from the air. Then the Behemoths took over. They were slow and physical and menacing and it just worked. Killer Chark hit the Big Bite and got the pinfall victory for The Behmoths win.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Behemoths defeated Devine Fortune in 12:59 when Killer Shark pinned Chance Fortune with a Big Bite. The Behemoths make defence number seven of the TCW World Tag Team titles.

Aaron Andrews was backstage before his match with Jay Chord. He had the TCW World’s Title on his shoulder. He was fired up for his title defense. He kept nailing home the point of his sacrifices. What he’s gone through to be at the top of the mountain. He had to survive wars with Rocky Golden and Bryan Vessey and Wolf Hawkins. He had to prove that he was better than all of them and he’s done so. He’s the man here in TCW and tonight, he’s going to prove that by showing Jay Chord that as good as Jay is, he’s not The Ace.

Jay Chord versus "The Ace" Aaron Andrews ©

The main event of the evening was the match that everyone wanted to see. It was on the marquee. It was on all the advertisements for the pay per view. Jay Chord and Aaron Andrews, for the first time ever, for the World’s Heavyweight Wrestling Championship. Aaron Andrews, the Ace, looking to defend the World Championship for the sixth time while Jay Chord had his own goals – to follow in his father’s footsteps and become TCW World Champion. As both men made their entrances, the anticipation for the match was palpable. The crowd wanted to see this match. The bell rang and the match started slow. There were no strikes thrown, just actual wrestling. Two men in a deep collar-and-elbow lock up, jockeying for position and control. The Ace a step a head. The frustration growing in Jay. This was a master class in how to start an old fashioned pro wrestling match. Aaron had more experience. He had more time on top and he looked like the face of a wrestling company as he controlled Jay Chord. Jay couldn’t gain the upperhand, he couldn’t find a way to secure it, so he took the shortcut. He went to the eyes and then he dropped Aaron throat-first over the top rope. Now the Ace was in trouble and Jay was able to take advantage. Jay targetted the neck of the Ace. Jay’s trademark move – the Cradle Piledriver, is a move that drops people directly on their head so everything was a set up for that. Aaron made two different comebacks throughout the match and they were big comebacks. The crowd was into everything. They were there for the whole ride and when Jay Chord was able to hit the Cradle Piledriver because Aaron Andrews had just sustained too much punishment and get the victory, the crowd exploded with appreciation and boos. We have a new World’s Champion.

In an exceptional match, Jay Chord defeated Aaron Andrews in 32:52 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. Jay Chord wins the TCW World Heavyweight title.

The Monthly Recap

O1E10IA.png

As we start the month of March, let's recap the month of February in pro wrestling in the mainstream of the United States.

w4UKNjU.jpg

USPW continue to firmly cement their status as the number 1 company in North America with a good quality month for the juggernaut. A marked overall improvement in show quality from January was seen with consistently good shows across the month peaked by some especially hot angles. Nicky Champions return to in-ring action helped the product as an absence of Champion from TV tends to be very noticeable across different aspects of the show but especially from a merchandising standpoint. Several new talents debuted such as Davis Wayne Newton and Tavon Blake and have been aligned with more established stars to help get them over and they have two more official debuts coming on the next American Wrestling for March with a particularly big name being rumored and heavily hinted at.

After the announcement of a child company in the form of PWUSA at the end of January they instantly began putting on shows and stocking the promotion with young talent from the independents such as Dreadnought, Logan Diaz & Orange Tsuchie as well as a few main roster talents being silently moved down to the child company led by Chris Caufield and Cherry Bomb.

IR0fcwm.jpg

February has seen SWF’s issues compounded after their January drop in size. This was best displayed in their agreement with C.A.N.N. to move their flagship show, Supreme TV, from a Prime Time to a later slot. While this move may have alleviated the pressure to perform and thus saved the company’s broadcast deal from being cancelled altogether due to poor performance, it has also allowed TCW to go without any opposition and reduced the number of eyeballs on SWF’s prime program. There is talk that the Eisen brothers are in the middle of negotiations with Mexican broadcasters for a separate deal on Tuesdays, but the question remains: can they rebuild and return to form soon enough, before they fall further behind USPW and even closer to TCW overtaking them for the spot of America’s #2 wrestling promotion?

The brand split that was introduced in January is still struggling to find an equilibrium, with an initially evenly split roster slowly changing as the bigger names are brought to Supreme and less popular prospects to Uprising. Many lesser known names that were signed have been relegated to RIPW, which has introduced a new weekly show as it struggles to grow in hopes of getting a broadcast deal with the debut of WrestleWorld next month, while the contracts of a few big names such as Mikey Lau and Kurt Laramee will be up for renewal pretty soon, already leading to speculation in regards to whether they will stick around or jump ship.

S72TTcA.jpg

The month of February saw TCW continue to build momentum and close the gap on SWF for second place in North America. Built on the back of Aaron Andrews, TCW programming continues to show that their brand of pro wrestling has a strong market. They did suffer some backstage morale losses when Maverick, Flying Jimmy Foxx, and Bart Biggins all asked for (and were granted) their releases. The three men were reportedly unhappy with the way The Historian was using them and wanted the opportunity to ply their trade elsewhere. TCW has continued to try to develop new babyface stars behind Aaron Andrews with T-Bone Bright and Mighty Mo looking like they’re the next two up, but Mr. Lucha III has been getting a strong push. Edd Stone impressed late in the month and could be featured more strongly after a great TV and pay per view performance.

TCW has signed a deal with ACE to relaunch Saturday Night Showcase starting March. This graveyard show is a secondary show to supplement TCW’s Total Wrestling broadcast. They have also signed a deal with IC-TV to bring both Total Wrestling and Saturday Night Showcase onto the air waves in Canada. TCW has also invested heavily in their training facility – upgrading to the highest quality of trainers. TCW agents Brent Hill, Joel Bryant, and Dean Daniels will continue to oversee the TCW training program. TCW did see themselves gain a full popularity point in the month of Feburary throughout the United States – except Hawaii and Puerto Rico. They are currently tied with SWF in terms of popularity in the United States, except in Puerto Rico and Hawaii where SWF is ahead.

SWF Supreme TV Results [Tues. Wk. 1, March 2020]

qeYGKnn.jpg

From the diary of Samantha W. Fitzworthy

SWF went north of the border this week for a show in Ottawa, with 7.672 Canadian fans in attendance and 2.352.051 pairs of eyeballs on the product, a 3.13 rating that could be considered a return to form but is actually due to the broadcast deal with TV-Mex entering into force as Supreme TV expanded its audience with a ton of Mexican fans.

bD6Gn3a.jpgcMCn9oC.jpg

For whatever reason, Eric Eisen opened the show by bashing Canada on the mic. “Easy E” talked about how strongly he objected crossing the border for a show and ran down anything Canadian, you know, the standard cheap heat stuff, until Mainstream Hernandez interrupted him to a massive pop. Hernandez got on the mic to defend his country and even brought up “Angry” Tom Gilmore in his promo, leading a frustrated Eric to book him for a punitive match later tonight: him and Rocky Golden against Scythe and The Crippler. Not the most original start to a show, but Hernandez did get the reaction and there was some hype for a match that would be taking place later on pitting two feuding pairs in a tag match, so I guess a 66 will do.

7MBpyeV.jpg

From there we went backstage, where a hyped up, disco dancing Robbie Retro confirmed he’s all healed up and back in action. As a matter of fact, we would be getting proof of that right now, as he would be taking on John Greed next. Huzzah, no one cares. No denying Robbie’s skill on the mic though, as he was still able to get a 56 from Mr. Eisen.

7MBpyeV.jpg25UZG0h.pngbcjiqVi.jpg

Match time and I couldn’t help but wonder which of the two men has been more hit and miss with their booking. Robbie did those dancing run-in promos for a while before an ultra serious, pissed off Crippler sidelined him, then he made his return last week to cost him a match… and I guess that was it, if Crippler is now all tangled up with Hernandez, so no rubber match to wrap up that feud, if you could call it a feud. Greed, on the other hand, went on a losing streak, then put it all on the line to get a win over the debuting Sylvester Weatherfield… and then went back to losing again. If they were trying to tell some kind of story here, it never got through to me but fans didn’t seem to mind much. Robbie rolled up Greed for the pin, 48 tops, let’s move on.

gvy0H2L.jpg4a1C8BJ.jpg

Coming back from commercial, Dominic DeSousa with Joe Sexy made an entrance. At first, it seemed we would be getting the opposite of the starting promo, but the praise quickly devolved into a sliiiightly sexist rant about Canadian women being easy and men being lacking, or something along those lines. It’s not like we can’t be friends if you enjoyed it, but I’m not sure if the smarmy swagger made it an effective heel promo up to the point where you could overlook the cringe. Your mileage may vary, Mr. Eisen’s went up to a 57.

TvNbpxX.jpgcmXGyfa.jpgEylo95j.jpghqz3ypv.jpgW31esv4.jpg

We then moved to the Rat Pack’s locker room, with Hollywood Bret Starr addressing the camera and Brandon James. Starr pointed out that he did beat James at Nothing to Lose, but for some reason the man won’t leave him be in peace. Since he was able to beat Willy LaRoux last week though, Starr was willing to entertain the idea of a rematch, but only if James would manage to beat Fame & Money tonight and next week in singles matches respectively. Seems like we’re getting the old story of the babyface running through the heel’s lackeys to get to him, with them trying to soften him up for the final bout. I wouldn’t mind another James-Starr rematch, to be honest, and the promo was great as Starr continues to improve, 79 for this angle.

cmXGyfa.jpg25UZG0h.pngNpVvUsB.jpg

From words to action, Monty Trescarde versus Brandon James in the ring. It’s not often we get Monty or Paul in singles matches, so this was somewhat refreshing even if it felt rather predictable. James tried to use his power to impose his will, but Monty had the technical advantage and used it to neutralize the mismatch, slowing things down and taking the fight to the mat. He wasn’t shy about cheating either when things would get out of control, which really helped in terms of match psychology, but of course it all came down to the Big Money Move and Brandon James won the match after fifteen minutes of some good back and forth. See you next match against Paul Huntigdon then, for now a 72 doesn’t sound bad at all.

nq2GDOi.jpg2gUyrYj.jpgz0va49v.jpgOffRXjh.jpg

cpAGu2w.jpgqm4JcZ6.jpg

Supreme Dream Team hit the ring next, with Spencer Spade on talking duty as usual. Spade tried to discredit his team’s loss last week due to it being a three way tag match, which brought out Best of the Best for the counter argument. Gilmore and Morgan agreed to break down things alright: they won last week fair and square and if Spade doesn’t want to count it due to the setup, then he also shouldn’t count his group’s win the week prior, because it was a trios match against them and Hernandez. Never one to be caught without something to say, Spade conceded but then upped the ante: you want to go further back, Best of the Best only won their first ever match against Allen and Bekowski due to a DQ, plus his team has won when it really mattered, at Nothing to Lose. It seemed as though Gilmore was ready to snap and fists would fly, but Morgan admitted Supreme Dream Team were the only ones to hold a Pay Per View win over him and his teammate, but that could easily be rectified in two weeks at Awesome Impact. Fans cheered and it seems we’ll be getting the rematch alright, even if it took forever to set it up and explain the feud. Mr. Eisen seemed to side with the fans though and enjoyed it thoroughly, saying it felt like kids arguing in the schoolyard and trying to one-up each other, giving it a 72.

qD6llvF.jpgcMCn9oC.jpg25UZG0h.pngRSL6GBd.jpginYGk7m.jpg

So apparently the intro segment set up the semi main event, because we also had Remo, Lau and Valiant arranged last week, remember? I said before about how this was the standard tag match intertwining two singles feud, but seeing it go down I also realized that the idea was to pair the face of SWF with the local hero who got the big pop at the start of the show. There was something for everyone here, from posing and crowd work to big moves, technical skill and flashy high flying. Everyone got a chance to shine and I was actually surprised to see Rocky be the one that took a beating in order to build up to a hot tag for Hernandez. Scythe and Crippler did their best to lay him out but Golden got his superhuman comeback and tagged his teammate in, with Hernandez pulling off a series of crowd popping moves leading up to the Apparition #14 on Crippler for the pin. The fans really elevated the match to the next level and I was surprised it only got a 76 from Mr. Eisen.

2tpRL3H.jpg25UZG0h.pngWBnSRhJ.jpg25UZG0h.pngZJznckl.jpgsjzLjoT.jpg

Main event non title triple threat match time, remember the #1 contender spot was up for grabs here if Lau somehow managed to win the match. I was expecting Remo to back down and let the faces at it, which would be really off brand and more something I’d expect from, say, Rogue; instead, the champion really got into the match, perhaps looking to have a say in his eventual challenger or just soften up both of them just in case. The slight difference in styles was also a nice touch, with Valiant being the straightforward brawler, Lau as the precise martial artist and Remo as the dirty one who wasn’t afraid to dip into hardcore territory for a few spots. Twenty five minutes flew by like a breeze in what was an exceptional, pay per view quality match, though I could tell they were holding back a bit, plus the title itself wasn’t on the line, which would explain the final rating only being an 84. The big finish saw Lau go up top to try a flying kick and miss, with Valiant capitalizing for the pin after a V-Split. Looks like we’re getting Remo versus Valiant for the title at Awesome Impact after all.

This episode had the best main event match by far, so it’s not surprising I’d also rate it as the best one of Supreme TV to date at 79. Might have been a lucky one off, might be that Faith is improving or just feeling the pressure of TCW catching up behind him. Guess we’ll know next week with the go-home episode for the Pay Per View.

SWF's move out of Primetime gives TCW two hours of unopposed programming. Coming off <em>The War to Settle the Score</em>, TCW was definitely looking to capture the momentum they've been building with a big installment of Total Wrestling.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">The show started off with Jay Chord coming to the ring. He wasn't alone though, he had Ernest Youngman with him. It looks like Youngman is being paired as Jay's number two. Jay had the TCW World Title with him, on his shoulder. In the ring, Jay launched in to how it is the dawn of a new era in Total Championship Wrestling. Jay Chord is the World Champion now and it is his era. The era of Aaron Andrews is over. Jay Chord rules the roost around here. That brought out Aaron Andrews. The former champion was congratulatory. He gave Jay his flowers. Jay won on Sunday and there's nothing Aaron can say to the contrary but Aaron is far from done here. Aaron is going to be TCW World Champion again and he's going to go through anyone who stands in his way to get his World Title back. Starting tonight with Roderick Remus. Jay Chord said Aaron Andrews can wrestle whoever he wants, because he'll never be TCW World Champion again. A really good opening segment. Ernest didn't really say anything, but he looked good standing next to Jay. Aaron and Jay are both red hot and I'm really like this feud. <strong>95.</strong></span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">We come out of the first commercial break with our opening match -- The Wild Ones taking on Troy Tornado and Dazzling Dave Diamond in tag team action. It's clear The Historian doesn't see much in Diamond and Tornado because they've barely been used and when they are it is in positions like this. The Wild Ones controlled the match and continued to establish themselves as a top tag team in TCW. It's clear that Historian has high hopes for The Wild Ones with the amount of TV time they have been given. Findlay O'Farraday got the win after the Atomic Spinebuster on Troy Tornado. A solid <strong>57.</strong></span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">We went backstage to where Eddie Peak and Floyd Goldworthy were standing with the Sinner Society. We find out that The Wild Ones are the new number one contenders to the World Tag Team Titles held by Titan and Killer Shark. Eddie Peak and Floyd put over and put down The Wild Ones. Solid, old school proming here about how as good as The Wild Ones are that this isn't Japan and they aren't big or bad enough to slay the Behemoths. I assume this match is going to take place at Battleground, TCW's March Pay Per View and it's smart to start that building now. <strong>65</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Coming out of the next commercial break, The Architect and Flying Jimmy Foxx went one on one. This is another case of The Historian trying to build new stars. He's clearly a fan of The Architect and the Architect controlled this match. He got the win by submission with his Blueprint hold and I have heard that Jimmy Foxx is furious and his days in TCW could be numbered. <strong>46</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Wolf Hawkins got a backstage promo. He talked about how he was able to beat both Mighty Mo and T-Bone Bright at the same time because he's a superior pro wrestling. He is the Supreme Pro Wrestler. He winked at the camera before saying he one step better than the supreme pro wrestler, he's the Total Pro Wrestler and he proved that at <em>The War to Settle the Score</em>. He's going to continue proving it until he's once again the TCW World Heavyweight Champion. A very good promo. I have a feeling that his issues with T-Bone and Mighty are not over. <strong>89</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Speaking of T-Bone Bright, he was up next with a match against Nick Booth. Two big boys in a big boy fight. Slugging it out. Was there ever anything more Historian than this? Two guys slugging it out in the middle of the ring. T-Bone got the better of Nick Booth and hit his big T-Bone Lariat to get the win. <strong>61</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Edd Stone got a promo next. Edd said for years he has not lived up to his potential. He's come up short. He's been focused on having a good time and not on being the best version of himself he can be, but he needs to change that. He wants another chance at the Television Championship. He wants another chance to prove he belongs and that he is the Last Bastion of the Stone Brothers excellence. A solid promo that gives Edd a little bit more serious of a character. <strong>67</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Mighty Mo got a singles match next. He controlled most of this match with Marc Speed. The Historian continues his push of Mo and Bright with each of them getting singles wins here. I don't know how they're going to resolve the Wolf Hawkins stuff or if they'll spin one of them off and keep one of them going, but Mo looked really good here. Mo could be a lead babyface.<strong>65</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">What should have just been a simple squash tag team match turned into a pretty good affair. Jay Chord and Ernest Youngman teamed up to take on Danny Fonzarelli and Elliot Thomas. You knew there was no way Danny and Elliot were going to win, but Jay and Ernest pulled a really good tag match out of them. Ernest bumped big for several of Danny's moves and even Elliot got some offense. Jay came in for a very short stint but the Ernest got the win with his Tornado Face Slam that he calls The Hit. <strong>71</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Jason Azaria came to the ring in his new role as President of Total Championship Wreslting, his faux leadership role. The Historian just didn't want Jason on commentary anymore because he wanted Lee Bambino and so he made Jason an authority figure. Thankfully, it looks like Jason's a babyface and mostly hands off. Jason announced Saturday Night Showcase's return starting this Saturday Night on ACE. We all knew this was coming already, but the live fans gave it a nice response and it led to a solid video package about what looks like a clear B show. <strong>46</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">The Television Title match was up next. Human Arsenal, fresh off his battle royal win, against Greg Gauge. Greg continued his streak of good technical matches here as he and Arsenal wrestled a very solid match. Greg gets better with each outing and I think with Jay, Greg, and Ernest TCW has three great wrestling heels to  work with and contrast with their clear babyface direction. With Aaron only being 33, we know he's going to be the lynchpin face but if Mo and Bright can be elevated, TCW will have a great core. Greg got the win with the Proton Lock, his seventeenth straight title defense. <strong>69</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">Greg took the microphone and announced that next week, it's going to be him and Mr. Lucha III for the third time. This time, a thirty minute time-limit but with judges. Greg's going to prove once and for all that he's better than Mr. Lucha III, just like his dad was better than the original Mr. Lucha. <strong>56</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">The main event was up next. Aaron Andrews and Roderick Remus. Aaron picked up right where he left off as champion with another great match and Roderick looked like he belonged in the ring. Roderick is another guy who is a quality member of the roster and did a great job against Aaron. Aaron hit his Standing Hot Shot for the win. <strong>77</strong>.</span></p><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">This was a really good episode of TCW television. Aaron got a good win, Greg set up for him and Mr. Lucha III next week. We continue Wolf and T-Bone and Mo, we have new tag challengers. Edd Stone looks like he's getting some love. I'm very interested to see where we go from here. Overall, I'd give this show a <strong>79</strong>. </span></p></td></tr><tr><td style="width: 915px;"><img src="https://i.imgur.com/dCLnspm.jpg" alt="" width="900" height="26" /></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p>

USPW is back 'home' in the South East for American Wrestling in what is sure to be an exciting episode of action in the aftermath of Red, White & Blue!

The first thing(s) that we know are happening Wednesday are two new debuting talents. One being a "God of Rock" and the other being a "God of Country". The rumor mill has been intense over the past few weeks with many excited about whom they believe the "God of Rock" will be. But no one can be 100% sure so we'll need to tune in to find out.

Jaime Quine
lost the Women's Title in the main event on Saturday night and will look to bounce back as she fights whom was to originally be her opponent in
Sara Marie
. There's no title to fight for but we can be sure that Sara Marie will still be giving it her all to win.

Tyson Baine
will make his return to 'TV' as he fights one half of the tag team champions in
Julius Moor
in what is sure to be an intense affair as these two big heavyweights come to blows in a 'big boys slappin' meat' affair. Baine & T-Rex returned to wreak havoc in the aftermath of the tag title bout on Saturday accompanied by an unnamed figure. Perhaps details will be revealed this week?

Killer Kass
takes on
Miss American Pie
in singles action. These two have been mostly unfeatured over the past few months but Kass put in a strong performance in the Battle Royal last week and will look to build on that. We also have
Pariah & Melody
teaming up to take on Strong's
Muscle Monsters
as we continue to come to terms with Strong emerging victorious in the 4-way and becoming an 8-time women's champion.

Rick Law
goes one-on-one vs
Tavon Blake
after both featured in the 6-man tag on Saturday night. In the main event we have new National Champion
'The Complete Package' Joss Thompson
in non-title action against
Bulldozer Brandon Smith
. Both men come into this one with momentum on their side and it's sure to be a terrific main event. Plus
Rich Money
, still World Champion, will address the events of his title defence at Red, White & Blue! as we saw Atlas aid the champion in stopping
Eddie Howard
.

As you can see it's going to be an action-packed evening with a lot to digest and we hope to see you there!

Hello and welcome to this special edition of the Behind The Curtain Podcast with me, Jo-Ro. This week's American Wrestling is in the books and it's time for our look back, assessment and recap of the show. Let's get into it.

HLSJnbk.jpg

American Wrestling returned to The Dust Bowl in the South East to an audience of 12,677 for the first show post Red, White & Blue! Latest figures from Reverie put the viewing figures at 12,122,192 which puts it as the highest viewed 'TV' of the year. Let's dip in to what was a great night for USPW

Segment 1:

The show opened with the highly anticipated debut of the 'God Of Rock' which turned out to be none other than Jack Bruce. The fans came collectively unglued as Bruce shows that there is still nobody in the business who can quite capture an audience the way he does. He cut a passionate, fiery promo recapping his history in the business, the final chapter may yet be his best and he'll make a great first line. He laid out a challenge to Nicky Champion for USPW's biggest show of the year Independence Day Slam four months from now. We even had a brief appearance from Champion welcoming Bruce to USPW and accepting the challenge. Outstanding opening segment. TV highlight of the year already. Even the most critical of USPW & Bruce viewers had to be impressed by this.

(100)

Segment 2:

We'll class this as two different segments. As Bruce was walking up the ramp he was interrupted by a Country themed song that signalled the arrival of Jerry Lee Perkins, formerly known as Tennessee William, the 'God of Country'. He instantly raised his accompanying acoustic guitar over his head before cracking it over the head of Bruce and grabbing a mic fuming about the fact that everytime his 'promo piece' aired it was followed up and overshadowed by Bruce's and now it was his turn. Two seperate debuts deserve two different ratings. It was a good segment instantly creates a buzz about JLP even if it didn't come close to living up to the opening of the show.

(69)

Segment 3:

Jaime Quine vs Sara Marie

We instantly followed that up with a great contest here. Quine is still hurting over her championship loss and so was vulnerable with Sara Marie capitalising and pinning the former champion. Pity it wasn't for the originally planned title match. Backstage rumors suggest that Marie was still working with a niggling injury here but the match went ahead as there are things going on with Quine. A solid opening match.

(68)

Segment 4:

Quine is furious, cuts a promo berating the audience and vowing to make it up to her followers next week before getting full revenge. Sara Marie celebrates and called out Alicia Strong as she wants her 'earned' title match at the champion. This was good, strong mic work from both women and every segment has been a winner so far.

(77)

Segment 5:

And the hot segment streak ends at 4. A short package looked to build hype to the debut (another one!) of a superhero-esque luchadora by the name of Purple Viper. A campy and fun video with a character that may appeal to kids but given the tone of the evening it fell completely flat and the live audience didn't seem to care.

(19)

Segment 6:

Miss American Pie vs Killer Kass

A reasonable 6-minute match here that highlighted the menace and strength of Kass. MAP is an easy babyface to support win or lose and Kass, after the battle royal showing, built some nice momentum here with a win via some heavy powerspots.

(56)

Segment 7:

Lionel Greenwood is backstage and catches up with JLP who turns on the southern heel shtick/charm and professes his greatness as a musician and wrestler. He introduces his entourage which are Thatcher & Ducont and points out that Money's trash is his treasure and "The best is yet to come!". Solid promo work.

(56)

Segment 8:

Tyson Baine vs Julius Moor

The term 'big meaty men slappin meat' has become popular over the past few years and that's exactly what this was. 9-minutes worth. Moor, ex-pro footballer, has been well taken care of in his 5 year tenure and a singles match against Baine isn't to be snuffed at. The demonic Baine can still work at 49 years old and ended this one via his Hades Bomb after an aided distraction from his mysterious manager in the second best match of the evening.

(71)

Segment 9:

Rich Money and The Business entered the ring after the break. He boasted of his victory on Saturday and introduces his new insurance policy. Gimmick names don't work in 'The Business' (maybe someone should remind Money of Zeus) and that Atlas is now Big Josh Nash. Howard interrupted the backslapping and claimed Saturday was BS and he wants one more shot with no interference. A Steel Cage match next week. Challenge accepted. Good segment.

(73)

Segment 10:

The Muscle Monsters vs Pariah & Melody

King & Gloria's association with Strong is good for them in exposure but as workers there just not at a high enough level yet. The match was carried by Pariah and Melody who themselves had a bit of an off night it seemed but the live audience still enjoyed it up. The monsters but a big hurt on their opponents but Melody's experience outsmarted them and she picked up the win for the babyfaces.

(64)

Segment 11:

Pre-match promos now. Frehley hyping up Blake and Champion hyping up Law with both competitors taking time to say their piece as well. Everyone here can talk and the promos are continuing to give longevity to this six-man rivalry that the six-man tag on Saturday night apparently couldn't settle. We all know it's going to eventually lead to a showdown between Champion and Frehley so let's stick with the journey til we get there.

(83)

Segment 12:

Rick Law vs Tavon Blake

Law's involvement in this rivalry is working wonders for him as he seems to have soared in popularity recently with more vocal reactions from the crowd of late. Blake can definitely work well in the ring but doesn't appear to be catching on with crowds as quickly as Bubba (presumably because he's not a big Heavyweight. You know what USPW can be like). The match was solid with some nice trading back and forth of action and Law doing all he can to try and elevate Blake but the enforcer took the victory in a little less than 10 minutes.

(69)

Segment 13:

We catch a glimpse backstage of Jack Bruce, our first sighting of the Rock God since the start of the show, nursing his head with an ice pack and talking to the doctor. A knock on the door is followed by the arrival of Enygma who hasn't been since his loss to Thompson four weeks ago. The two veterans embrace, discuss their supreme history and Enygma states that if Bruce wants a second by his side that he'd be honored to be the guy. The two shake hands to end the segment. A fun little segment that 'popped' the live crowd, told a short story and ensures Enygma's relevance siding with the hottest commodity in wrestling after tonight.

(84)

Segment 14:

Not much has been said of the upcoming main event this evening until now when Thompson and Smith both cut backstage promos hyping up the contest. Both men cut tremendous promos hyping the importance of this match to both and putting each other over. Thompson has been 'on-fire' lately and is riding a big wave of momentum after just becoming National Champion and Smith has caught that same wave after Saturday. Excellent segment.

(91)

Segment 15:

Joss Thompson vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith

The match went five seconds shy of fifteen minutes but it felt like they could have gone another fifteen as this match can comfortably be called USPW's best match of the year so far. Scintillating back and forth action with changes of momentum. The crowd ate into it beautifully and embraced the heelish antics as both men gave it their all. Ultimately, perhaps to the surprise of some, Smith picked up the clean victory after he caught JT attempting a Clean Cutter from the second rope, hoisted him into the air and crushed him with a devastating tombstone piledriver.

(87)

<div style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(0,0,0);"></div>

A great night for USPW all around. Jack Bruce is back in professional wrestling and in USPW for the first time ever in a fantastic segment that people will be buzzing about for weeks and months til we get a first ever showdown between Bruce & Champion. The meat and middle portion of the show was consistently good and the whole night was topped off with the company's best match of the year so far following great promo work from Thompson and Smith. The best 'TV' show of the year so far and it's unlikely to be topped soon but you never know. An 87 is a very reasonable rating

Til next time friends, I'm Jo-Ro.
