TCW Total Wrestling Preview March Week 3

The best pro wrestling action in North America returns to A.C.E. in Prime Time this Tuesday Night with another big night of action. All the top pro wrestlers in the United States will be in action on a jam-packed episode of Total Wrestling that you do not want to miss.

In the main event, former World Heavyweight Champion, "The Ace" Aaron Andrews takes on the rising star "Shocking" Matt Hocking. For Aaron Andrews, this is a great chance to continue to build momentum after losing the World Championship and for Matt Hocking this is a chance to score the biggest win of his career.

Benny Benson and One Man Army, two noted tag team specialists, team together to take on World Champion Jay Chord and Ernest Youngman in what should be an excellent tag team contest.

Television Champion Greg Gauge looks to continue his historic run as he goes for defense number nineteen. This week he puts the title on the line against a mystery opponent. A tenacious pitbull who has made a name for himself in both hemispheres and will be making his TCW debut on Tuesday night.

In a preview of the upcoming World Tag Team Title clash, Findlay O'Farraday and Titan will meet in a singles match. Both men are the respective veteran captain of their teams and both men are known for being big hosses. When they lock horns, it is possible the ring will be destroyed. How will it go down?

Tuesday, Mar. Week 3 Total Wrestling Results
TCW is closing in on their March Pay Per View event, Battleground. This was the third episode of Total Wrestling of the month of March and it definitely had a jam-packed lineup and on paper looked like it could be an excellent show.

The show started off with TCW World Heavyweight Champion Jay Chord and Ernest Youngman in the ring. Jay Chord was giving Aaron Andrews his props for successfully winning his match last week and that he had to admit that because of the contractual obligations as World Champion, he would be defending against Aaron Andrews at Battleground but he wasn't happy about it -- he didn't think Aaron Andrews should get a rematch. He beat him clean in the middle of the ring and it is only TCW's politics and Jason Azaria's favoritism of Aaron Andrews that is getting the Ace this title shot. Aaron came out and he was hot and fiery about how yes, he lost, but he also has been a defending champion and he never backed down from a challenge and if it wasn't for Aaron being willing to defend against Jay, Jay wouldn't be World Champion in the first place. They went back and forth with each other and even though this felt very sports entertainment with the starting with a promo segment, these two really carried the weight. Ernest didn't do much but stand there, but he's getting the rub being involved in the segments and I get that. The promo work was sensational. I'd have to say it was a 98.

We got our first match right after this with T-Bone Bright taking on Jeremie Courtney. This was entirely an enhancement match with T-Bone controlling the whole thing from start to finish. Courtney was on full sell job and really helped T-Bone look more dangerous. T-Bone's Lariat ended the match and Courtney took the moonsault-bump off the lariat and it was a great bump. Courtney may never be a star, but he's a fine enhnacement-level talent. A very solid 65. It wasn't anything special but it did its job.

Next, we got a video package. We were in a church and there were candles lit. There was a Spanish-speaking priest going through some sort of Mass. I don't speak Spanish and they didn't have closed captioning on so I was really lost for what the priest was saying, but what I wasn't lost about was that it ended with Pablo Rodriguez on screen and the words that he was making his in-ring debut at Battleground. This is an interesting signing. Obviously, Pablo has a name especially in Mexico. He's been COTT World Champion, but he's also over 40 and he doesn't fit the youth movement TCW has been on with their signings. Maybe they just want some more name depth. Hopefully he'll fit in well. The promo package was alright. 58.

Next we had another video package, but this was a promo from the Women's Champion Electric Dreamer. She spent her promo hyping herself and the Women's Division and I get it. TCW's women's division has struggled from a lack of name value and giving Dreamer promo time helps her build up her fanbase and get established. She definitely can talk and she is incredibly marketable so promo time like this is valuable for her. 46.

After the two video packages, we got the eight man tag match. On one side, we had The Syndicate (without Wolf Hawkins) and on the other we had Devine Fortune, Kip Keenan, and Mr. Lucha III. It looks like The Historian has temporarily cooled on Kip Keenan, but it could only be a matter of trying to get Kip more popularity than he has because Kip could be a major babyface player. I still think Mr. Lucha III will be one of the lead babyfaces for TCW as he gets more popular. You're starting to see some signs for him in the crowd and some Mr. Lucha III masks on little kids and that's going to be helpful.  Doc Hammond looked excellent in this match. The veteran was really impressive in an exchange with Mr. Lucha III that really let Doc showcase he still has something left in the tank. Doc got the submission victory. 64.

We got Killer Shark and Animal Harker next. It was physical and hard hitting. These two are going to meet in the Tag Title match at Battleground so this was clearly a way to build more drama for that. Shark got the win with the Big Bite in an underwhelming match. 59.

Another video package, this time a hype package for Mighty Mo versus Wolf Hawkins. This was really well down as far as video packages go and had lots of footage intercut with promos from Mo and Hawkins hyping up the importance of this match. Mo looks at this match as a stepping stone into being a legit player in TCW and Hawkins wants the World Title again and he needs to beat Mo in singles action or he could potentially be out of title contention. 89.

Findlay O'Farraday and Titan were next. Two more big bulls locking horns and another hype for their Tag Title match at Battleground. Findlay looked really good and his push continues as he got another pinfall victory (he's gotten all the victories for The Wild Ones). He hit his big Spinebuster on Titan in another solid but unspectacular contest. 61.

Freddy and Laura Catherine Huggins were backstage next. Freddy is tired of being overlooked. He's one of the best wrestlers on the planet and he keeps getting pushed to the side. He keeps getting overlooked and he's tired of it. He's officially challenging T-Bone Bright for a match at Battleground so he can prove he belongs with the best of the best and that he shouldn't be left out. Really solid promo from a really good wrestler. 79.

The TCW Television Title match was next. Greg Gauge has really been on a roll as TV Champion with eighteen defenses going into this match. His opponent was a mystery and it was... AKIMA BRAVE! Apparently TCW has signed the Samoan Pitbull to a contract and Brave debuted in a big way here. Greg looked furious at who is opponent was and Brave really controlled the beginning of the match. Greg took lots of big bumps and bounced around for Akima. It was a really impressive display for Akima but ultimately, Greg went for the eyes and took control and ended up getting the win with the Proton Lock in a very competitive, solid match. 65.

Benny Benson and One Man Army took on Jay Chord and Ernest Youngman next. This was a really good tag team match. Jay and Ernest make a good team and Jay was really ontop of his game tonight. He clearly relishes being the World Champion and being the top heel and is coming into his own as a performer. I bet he's going to be the top heel in TCW for the next decade unless SWF or USPW are able to poach him when his contract is up. Ernest continues to establish himself with solid wrestling. Jay used the Cradle Piledriver on One Man army to get the victory. 76.

The main event was next. Matt Hocking had the opportunity for the biggest win of his career against Aaron Andrews, but Aaron continues to show why he's the Ace. He was excellent here in a very good television match. It's been smart continuing to feature Aaron in singles matches on TV even though he's not the World Champion. He's the biggest star they have and their lead babyface and he continues to deliver dramatic main events. He made Hocking look like he had a real shot at winning here and Hocking had several near falls before Aaron made the big comeback and hit the big Flying Body Press to get the win and send the show off the air with a really good TV main event. 79.

The month of March has really been strong from TCW's television. This show was no different. It started with a great angle, had some really good matches, an excellent hype video and let Freddy Huggins show that he can promo and be a featured talent. The only thing that really hurt this show is they didn't have any of the Wild Brawls that you would expect them to have -- especially when they had two hoss fights. That dings the show from what you would expect but still a really solid 74.

SWF Supreme TV Results [Tues. Wk. 3, March 2020]

qeYGKnn.jpg

From the diary of Samantha W. Fitzworthy

I sat down with Mr. Eisen to watch the post-PPV episode of Supreme TV, which was airing live this week from Baltimore, MD. According to the figures sent to our office, 8.866 of the tickets were paid for, while 5.770.324 pairs of eyes were on their screens for this, a whopping 3.66k bump up from last week's episode thanks to the show now also being on the Supreme Network.

qD6llvF.jpgkFrQtdk.jpg

Surprise surprise, the show opened with a Rocky Golden promo. Even poor Rocky apologized for having to talk about Scythe yet again, but he made it clear that given the shady finish of their match at Awesome Impact, Scythe’s win is tainted and it’s far from over between them. Surprise proper, Des Davids’ music hit and the former SWF North American champion walked out to everyone’s surprise. First Brandon James in Uprising, now this. Des began by saying they both lost their respective matches at Awesome Impact, but unlike Rocky who’s still thinking about it, he is focused on what’s next. Returning to Tuesday television is the first step, he said, on the road that leads to him winning the SWF World Heavyweight title. Rocky looked amused and said he’s sure you can’t just walk out and be granted a title shot, but he offered to give Des a taste of what he can expect, in a match tonight against a former World Heavyweight champion… himself. Pretty basic stuff setting up the main event if you break it down, but it involved two wrestlers who are over, the execution was solid and it had that added oomph thanks to Davids’ surprise appearance. A well deserved 80.

Wfm7oyM.jpg25UZG0h.pnghqz3ypv.jpg

Oliver Kobb vs Willy LaRoux

Just like last week’s episode, LaRoux got to work the opening match again and although Kobb is not that far into the late stages of his career like Biggins is, he still fits that slot of reliable veteran that can challenge a youngster and get a good match out of him while also being important enough to matter if he puts the rookie over. Speaking of rookies, Willy seems to be slowly finding his footing while fans are also taking him in, which I’d say led to a much hotter reaction than I expected for this bout. Pretty basic stuff in terms of in-ring action, LaRoux was his usual smug self full of disrespect and the occasional cheating spot in order to regain control of the match, while Kobb acted out the veteran trying to put this kid in his place and teach him a lesson, but without forgetting to sell the offence for the youngster. No surprise then that LaRoux got the pin in about ten minutes, handful of trunks in his hand to ensure the three count. Seems fair to give this a 50 right down the middle.

TvNbpxX.jpgcmXGyfa.jpgEylo95j.jpgZG3gG6w.jpgbcjiqVi.jpg

Hollywood Bret Starr with Fame & Money were watching their Rat Pack stablemate compete from a screen backstage, when former member Justin Sensitive walked in. Justin acted all happy to be back, but his joy wasn’t shared by the others, leading to a comically awkward moment (I’ll admit, for a moment I wondered if they were turning Justin face). Then John Greed joined the fray, claiming if there’s one person who should be joining the Rat Pack in a possible future expansion, that man is him. Nothing got resolved here, though I do feel like seeds were planted for a storyline down the road, something the Rat Pack desperately need after Starr wrapped up his feud with Brandon James while Fame & Money are out of the tag title picture. Mr. Eisen told me to write down a 64 for the segment.

pTVhqwK.jpg

We were then treated to a pre-taped promo in which Kristen Pearce hyped up her new clients, The Mission. Pearce said that Friday on Uprising she asked them for a chance and they trusted her, so it was time to deliver: tonight, The Mission versus Hawaiian Crush, one more time, this time with her at ringside. So Friday we got a Supreme brand guy in Brandon James crashing the show, and on this night we already had Des Davids, Justin Sensitive, The Mission and Hawaiian Crush all on Supreme TV? Yeah that’s classic SWF, took them less than three whole months to mess up this brand split thing. Anyway, 61 according to my notes, let’s move on.

VO0swHV.jpg25UZG0h.pngnq2GDOi.jpg2gUyrYj.jpg

Jungle Lord vs Spencer Spade (with Dulce Moreno)

It feels like ages since Spade actually wrestled a singles match, I had to check my notes and it turns out before this one, I had to go all the way back to Nothing to Lose in February, where he wrestled Davids and Parker in that triple threat match for the North American title. It was great to see Spencer wrestle again after all these promos and Jungle Lord provided a rock solid opponent for him to work with. Loved how Spade was mocking his opponent, playing up the antithesis of himself as the classy guy versus the uncivilized savage, wrestling’s all about such details and Spade nails those to a tee. Even in this random, completely out of the blue match, you could tell why this guy is being hailed as a future world champion and sure enough he won, clean as a whistle too, after he hit Jungle Lord with the Supreme Stunner. Excellent match for what it was, 61 out of a hundred.

qm4JcZ6.jpgcpAGu2w.jpgUEdrBy2.jpgZMWSLM5.jpg

Joey Morgan and Tom Gilmore had a few things to say about Spade’s buddies in light of beating them at Awesome Impact. The two men brought up the SWF World Tag Team champions wrestling tonight on Supreme TV and barely managed to allude to wanting a title shot when Randall Buckminster Bumfhole and BJ O’Neil walked into the frame, reminding them to not jump the line and viewers at home that The Awesomeness were about to make their return soon. Not sure where this is going and can’t say I was absolutely entertained, but it involved some pretty big stars which I guess is the line of thinking behind Mr. Eisen’s 70 for this angle.

BUCgAQW.jpg

Alright, this is ridiculous, ZWB too? Do the brands even mean anything by this point, why not come out and announce that it’s gonna be just one roster with two TV shows a week, besides maybe the guys on Elite? Anyway, the new champ got to talk about Robbie Wright, who won the Rumble at Uprising to be crowned his future challenger. Again, not a ton of substance, but Zimmy can go on the stick and he’s over with the fans who loved seeing him on a Tuesday, so Mr. Eisen rated this as an 81.

Uma1ExS.jpgp0O5Ibq.jpgb88Ke2i.jpg

Hawaiian Crush made their entrance next and requested a moment on the mic before the match. Adams and Ekuma said they haven’t forgotten about Smasher and Rogue’s attack at Awesome Impact, but first they need to take care of business tonight. The champions praised The Mission for pushing them at the Pay Per View but pointed out that tonight the outcome will be no different. Not sure why this promo was green-lit, perhaps just to keep the Smasher-Rogue thing afloat in recent memory, but whatever, 63.

Uma1ExS.jpgp0O5Ibq.jpgb88Ke2i.jpg25UZG0h.pngz8OxNfM.jpgC9699rl.jpgpTVhqwK.jpg

Hawaiian Crush (with Sylvester Weatherfield) vs The Mission (with Kristen Pearce)

If pairing Pearce with The Mission was a good call (even if it turned out that her and Matty Faith don’t quite click as well) then giving those guys a new look to solidify their heel turn was spot on. Matty Faith sported the tough guy stubble along with a bandana harkening back to his dad’s golden days, while Ranger adding the shades gave him an aura of cool badass mystery. They also seemed meaner inside the ring, now fully embracing their heel side, which was refreshing if you consider we recently saw this matchup at Awesome Impact. Of course, this was all about building up Pearce as a valuable addition to the bad guys’ team, so she provided some valuable interference throughout the match, including the finish, which allowed Ranger to hit Adams with the Mission Control for the pin while Ekuma was reeling at ringside. Despite the repetition and not having the titles on the line, this one still ends up a notch higher than their PPV match at 63.

cMCn9oC.jpg

We then cut back to a promo by Mainstream Hernandez, in which he talked about his match at Awesome Impact. Hernandez said The Crippler gave him a beating like no other man before has, but he took it all and smiled. He was never pinned in that match, never submitted, not even knocked out. It was the referee’s decision to stop that match and Crippler knows he did not win it proper. It must be eating him inside, Hernandez said, and I’m itching for a rematch so what do you say? I, for one, say this was some great stuff and rate it a sexy 69. Go ahead hate me, something happens on the inside when this guy’s on screen and you can’t deny he’s handsome AF.

2tpRL3H.jpgZJznckl.jpgsjzLjoT.jpg

SWF World Heavyweight champion Remo took charge of the ring next, his first appearance after retaining the title at Awesome Impact. Remo delivered his victory speech and bragged about still being champion, until Valiant’s music hit the speakers to rain on his parade. Flanked by Hannah with her arm in a sling, Valiant seemed electric and nothing like his usual laid back self, as he got on the mic and said that Remo conveniently skips a somewhat uncomfortable detail: Valiant almost had him beat in that match and in a moment of desperation, Remo had to take a shortcut by sliding out of the ring and knocking Hannah on the barricade to throw him off his game. I admit that while I saw this at the Pay Per View, I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. Whether it was a heel being a heel, something questionably unintentional or even a botch, I hadn’t realized that in narrative terms that was the point where Valiant had to choose if he’d win the title match or if he’d check up on Hannah, but it was also the point where Remo began making a comeback for the finish. Passionate delivery aside, I had that moment of revelation when I realized how layered, nuanced storytelling this was (at least for SWF’s standards) and how it’d keep their rivalry going despite the, technically, clean finish. Mr. Eisen was ecstatic and rated this as a 93, which I think is the highest number he’s ever dropped ever since we started watching these together.

kFrQtdk.jpg25UZG0h.pngqD6llvF.jpg

Des Davids vs Rocky Golden

Uhm, did we just get a Pay Per View caliber match on free television? Because it very much felt like it. Brand split aside, it’s been quite some time since these two interacted as they were each carrying a different title belt for a while and saying this makes me realize that Des was indeed relieved of the title in order to push him in the upper ranks of the card. Fans went crazy for this one and fortunately they were given over twenty minutes to deliver a proper main event bout with some great action and psychology on display. My only complaint would probably be in the selling department, since both men are used to being the dominant part in a match and I feel like they could have made each other’s moves look a bit more devastating. Also, Scythe showed up again, but the distraction wasn’t enough to throw Rocky off his game and he submitted Davids, staring down at Scythe at ringside while applying The Rack for the submission. This one made it to a 78.

Okay so regardless of my complaining about the brand split which seems to no longer be a thing, it makes business sense to have more big stars like Davids and ZWB on Tuesdays for a boost, even if SWF is no longer going directly head to head against TCW. Mr. Eisen rated the show as a 77, which I thought was the best they’ve done today, though I looked up my notes and it’s not, that honor has to go to that episode they did in Canada which was a 79.

Quick results

Rocky Golden def. Des Davids

The Mission def. Hawaiian Crush

Spencer Spade def. Jungle Lord

Willy LaRoux def. Oliver Kobb

Coming to you live from Springfield, MA this Wednesday night will be another exciting evening of American Wrestling action courtesy of USPW!

"The Rock God"
Jack Bruce
will make his official in-ring debut for USPW in tag team action alongside
Enygma
to take on the muscle of
JLP

Heavy Duty
. It's probably not the manner in which we all thought we'd see Bruce debut but it's what we've got and it'll be an interesting encounter all the same.

Trent Shaffer
and
Roger Cage
both have something to prove in the aftermath of their losses at Red, White & Blue! and this contest will put one of them back on the right track.

Purple Viper
stunned the world last week with her debut victory over Jaime Quine to the fury of the former champion and will be in action again this week up against
Faith McGee
. The #1 contendership is also up for grabs in a triple threat at the request of Women's Champion
Alicia Strong
.
Pariah, Melody & Sara Marie
will all face off with the winner getting the title match at Liberty & Justice!

Finally
Joss Thompson
, the recently crowned National Champion, has lost his only match since becoming champion when he fell to
Brandon Smith

Casey Valentine
in singles action after Valentine & Smith defeated The Undesirables last week in tag team action.

As you can see it's going to be an action-packed evening with a lot to digest and we hope to see you there!

Hello and welcome to this special edition of the Behind The Curtain Podcast with me, Jo-Ro. This week's American Wrestling is in the books and it's time for our look back, assessment and recap of the show. Let's get into it.

HLSJnbk.jpg

USPW American Wrestling emanated from Springfield, MA this week to 11,582 paying fans. The latest Reverie figures come through at 11,737,860 which is down somewhere in the region of 350,000 from last weeks show. Let's get into it!

Segment 1:

Another well assembled hype package recapping ongoing storylines within the company that was punctuated with appropriate levels of excitement from the broadcast team. The storylines of the National Championship, Champion & Frehley and Jack Bruce were the focus. Good start.

(89)

Segment 2:

Jack Bruce & Enygma vs Heavy Duty

Speaking of Jack Bruce he was supposed to be opening the show here but before the match began we saw the Bruce had been laid out backstage and it was 2-on-1 territory as Perkins joined the announce desk. The veteran Enygma did his best but a handicap vs two big heavyweights would be a struggle for anyone. The heels were in control but the crowd 'popped' when Bruce arrived, landed two New York Minutes on the duo and rolled back onto the ring apron. Enygma finished things bringing out a new flying double stomp from the top rope for the 3-count. Good match even if we were mostly cheated out of a real debut for Bruce.

(70)

Segment 3:

Perkins was irked and hit the ring attacking Bruce from behind and throwing him into the ring steps. Enygma went to save but was stopped by Ducont and bullied around the ring. Classic post-match beatdown angle which continues to push the story forward. The company must be high on Perkins with this being his debut angle as I imagine everyone thought Bruce would be doing bigger things than this despite the Champion challenge.

(67)

Segment 4:

Roger Cage vs Trent Shaffer

The competition surrounding the National title picture and those guys in the upper midcard has been fantastic of late with the matches being the best on the show. This was no different. Both men with a point to prove and needing to bounce back. Cage succeeded this week finishing things via a brutal looking running knee bomb. Good win for Cage who's match quality has taken a big step up since January.

(81)

Segment 5:

Best promo of the night goes to this segment. Cage cuts a promo requesting a shot at getting his title back. Smith confronts stating he recently beat Thompson and so deserves one first since Cage couldn't cut it. JT appears to say that he has more pressing matters tonight in the main event and these two chumps can sit and wait. Great work from all three. The fans ate it up and everyone is 'hot' in the company just now. Deservedly high score.

(86)

Segment 6:

Promo time now in front of a pitch black backdrop with fire around them from Blackfyre Deville flanked by The Titans. Deville can talk but it will take time to catch on with fans but The Titans are still over and this promo hyping them and berating tag champs Flight & Might was solid all round and continues to build to the tag title match at Liberty & Justice!

(66)

Segment 7:

Purple Viper vs Faith McGee

This was three minutes of filler it seems with an excuse to continue showcasing Purple Viper after her big debut win last week. The issue is that the fans weren't into it and that's a big issue for USPW TV if the fans don't react. The match was underwhelming also. Easy win for Viper anyway.

(24)

Segment 8:

The Force and D.C Rayne stand in the ring and call out The Business. Last weeks Cage match was still inconclusive due to interference and their sick of it. Rayne wants a fight with Big Josh Nash right now since Howard isn't here. Money accepts on behalf of the big man and sends Jack Jackson to ringside to accompany him. Good promo work all round.

(73)

Segment 9:

D.C Rayne vs Big Josh Nash

Solid TV match here from two men who are usually better suited to tag team action. It was a seven minute long whirlwind of a brawl with the big heavyweight Nash trying to ground and pummel the lighter and quicker Rayne. Inevitably Jackson got involved with the distractions, Force intervened to negate that but as Rayne tries to ignore the outside action he ascends to the second rope and attempts a diving crossbody which is caught by Nash and he plants Rayne with an emphatic Kronus Bomb for the win.

(67)

Segment 10:

A post-match brawl ensues as Jackson escapes The Force and starts beating on the downed Rayne. Force looks fired up though but is attacked from behind by Money but he turns and 'no-sells' it. Screams in fury and starts clearing house like he's de-aged ten years. The heels are sent packing and Force declares he wants and is overdue a World Title shot. Money begrudingly accepts with a caveat. When Force loses he can never challenge for the World Title ever again under any circumstance. Challenge accepted. Fun angle. Maybe didn't have the impact hoped for but fans are still invested.

(69)

Segment 11:

Melody vs Pariah vs Sara Marie

There's a combination of about 5/6 female talents where you put any of them in the ring together and the match will be good at a minimum. 3 of them were on display here and laid it all on the line for fourteen minutes of great TV wrestling action. It seems that Pariah is going to be the champion sooner rather than later with how high the company and fans are on her but it's gonna be a bit longer yet. All 3 looked good but it was Sara Marie who got the pinfall over Melody to get her title match. It's good storytelling as Sara Marie still feels due a shot as she wasn't pinned in the triple threat at Stars, Stripes and Slams so now has her chance and it keeps Pariah solid whilst having to bide her time. Good stuff.

(76)

Segment 12:

Alicia Strong comes out to congratulate her new challenger. Sara Marie says she hasn't forgotten about losing her one title run to Strong at Independence Day Slam back in 2018 and that the receipt is long overdue. It might not be the match the fans probably wanted but they're not any less hyped for this match-up.

(78)

Segment 13:

Casey Valentine vs Joss Thompson

An equal contender for MOTN this was an excellent back-and-forth TV main event. Thompson dominated for stages flexing his greatness as champion and drawing heat from the fans. Valentine had the classic comeback spots and everything clicked here. The match built to it's finale with a few close calls in the favour of the champion before attempting a Clean Cutter which was dodged by Valentine who got a backslide pinfall for the surprising 3-count and non-title win over the champion.

(81)

Segment 14:

Thompson is furious and instantly attacks Valentine which brings out Bulldozer Brandon Smith to aid save his partner but Thompson is ready and hits a vaulting crossbody to the outside to take out the heavyweight. The crowd 'pop' again as Roger Cage now enters the fray and makes a beeline for the champion who at this stage ducks the clothesline attempt and retreats up the ramp to be joined and protected by The Undesirables. The announcement graphic flashes on the big screen that it'll be a fatal four way at Liberty & Justice for the National title to the delight of the crowd and dismay of the champion. The three challengers unite in the ring and hype the crowd as the show ends. Terrific closing angle.

(86)

Another great show for USPW who are making it a habit now. There's a lot of moving parts in the company and on-screen but it's mostly being handled well. It's refreshing as well for the company that despite the World Title being featured and the newly debuting Jack Bruce the hottest stories in the company are revolving around the National and Women's Championships respectively. We've still one week to go of TV before the next big event but it's solid, consistent stuff from the biggest company in the world. As you'd hope for and expect. 81 overall for this one.

Til next time friends, I'm Jo-Ro.

SWF Uprising Results [Fri. Wk. 3, Mar. 2020]

Gf1mgKs.jpg

From the diary of Samantha W. Fitzworthy

It's Friday night and you know what that means, another unpaid overtime at Mr. Eisen's office watching SWF Uprising from the wonderful town of Mobile, Alabama. 8.495 fans were in attendance for this show, with 5.793.038 viewers watching online and on the brand new Supreme Network.

TvNbpxX.jpgcmXGyfa.jpgEylo95j.jpg

Right after the intro montage, we jumped straight into a live message from Hollywood Bret Starr, Monty Trescarde and Paul Huntindon. As the trio informed viewers, they had purchased their air time at the start of the show and it didn't come cheap, but when you have The Rat Pack's funds, there's nothing you can't afford. Tonight was a big night for the group, because Justin Sensitive and John Greed would be getting the chance to prove themselves: if they can beat Joey Morgan and Tom Gilmore, the Best of the Best, in a tag match tonight, they will have earned their membership. In hindsight, this was maybe a bit odd because the match announced was not the main event, but perhaps it fits with the idea of the Rat Pack's message -in kayfabe- not being part of the official programming. My biggest takeaway was character work though, I hope they keep pushing this version of the group where they play up their financial power instead of just having them be Starr's lackeys. A good 79 to kick off the show.

3zQuiWv.jpgzmwhmaD.jpg25UZG0h.pngMTergdN.jpgFHUEpiU.jpg

The Pain Alliance vs Brandon James & Masked Patriot

Jury's still out on the "brain damaged" gimmick that James has been doing since the start of the year and how he's been utilized, but you can tell he's gone all in with it and having some fun, on top of still delivering great matches. For this one, he came out with a mask to match that of his partner and dare I say they looked pretty good together. Can't say the same about their opponents though, who were solid but did not deviate from their usual stuff, to the point where I felt like they were just going through the motions. Fans in Alabama ate up the patriotic duo though and that fan reaction is all that matters at the end of the day, with James riding it for the finish and the Big Money Move on Laramee for the pin. A decent 60 for the opening contest.

N8a1je6.jpg1KmmoFR.jpg

Atom Smasher and Rogue then got a bit of promo time, with the latter all excited about how despite their rough start, the team has been doing great. Atom Smasher trusted him when he requested one last chance and now here they are, winning matches and dominating the SWF World Tag Team champions. Smasher took over from there, saying their dominance will continue and even if they don't get a title shot now, they will eventually beat Hawaiian Crush and take their belts. Fundamental stuff, but awesome delivery for a 74.

2tpRL3H.jpgbD6Gn3a.jpg

Back in the ring, the SWF World Heavyweight champion Remo made an entrance and cut a promo to shut down Valiant's hopes of a title rematch against him. Remo said he'd beaten the guy and had nothing more to prove, but that's when Eric Eisen's music interrupted him. Easy E came out to confirm that Valiant will indeed not be getting a shot at the title, but he would be main eventing tonight's episode in a match against The Crippler. However, Remo's next challenger has already been chosen and he will be in action on the main event of next week's Supreme TV. That challenger is none other than "The Dragon" Mikey Lau! The announcement got a huge pop and indeed, Lau hasn't been seen in ages, so what a way to come back. From what Mr. Eisen told me, Lau's contract was about to expire and he'd received offers from the opposition, even a call from south of the border, so he'd been kept off TV just in case. With a brand new SWF contract signed, I guess this was his return to the spotlight. Hell of a comeback, if I may say so, a 74 for this segment.

nq2GDOi.jpg2gUyrYj.jpgOffRXjh.jpgz0va49v.jpg

Back to the interview area, the Supreme Dream Team cut a promo to hype up the fact that Bear Bekowski was up next to face the new SWF North American champion, ZWB. Pretty standard stuff, even if the title's not on the line his reign will be cut short because Bekowski will destroy him, a quick mention of Morgan and Gilmore to keep the rivalry hot, but I couldn't help but notice how Allen's getting more chances on the mic and delivering the goods. I could see that clashing with Spade's ego and leading to a face turn for Primus to get a solo run, but I'm probably fantasy booking and will be let down when reality inevitably doesn't go my way. Mr. Eisen told me to mark down a 67 for the promo, which I think is fair.

z0va49v.jpg25UZG0h.pngBUCgAQW.jpg

Bear Bekowski vs ZWB

I honestly wasn't hoping for much out of this match but my God did they put on a spectacle! Never thought much of Bekowski past his size and menace, but he looked like a million bucks here, which in hindsight should probably be attributed to Zimmy. Selling aside, I'm guessing he also called the match as the veteran he is and he did a great job with the pacing and psychology, letting Bekowski look dominant and put the heat on him but bringing the crowd up when he needed to with the occasional hope spot or a spectacular move. In the end though, it came down to brains over braun and ZWB had to outsmart his opponent to get the pin with a surprise cradle. Consider me sports entertained, 65 for the match is my grade.

J3gziSv.jpgLsNPSwr.jpg1oogrm3.jpg

Duane Fry, Ana Garcia and Emma Chase then got some time to discuss things and provide a breather for the audience. I guess having the same announce team for Supreme TV and Uprising is another sign that the brand split is de facto no more, plus I asked Mr. Eisen and he told me his sons are now doing commentary with Franklin Fumier on the B shows of Elite. Anyway, the broadcast trio recapped the night's events so far and also provided their thoughts on the ending of Supreme TV's main event, as a video aired to show Scythe interfering in the match and Davids tapping out to Rocky Golden's torture rack. I don't think such secondary segments deserve a rating anyway, but Mr. Eisen told me to note a 70 for this, so whatever.

Wfm7oyM.jpgZqKAoE0.jpg

Now this was interesting, probably inevitable too. Southern Comfort had a moment, in which they both agreed their team-up hasn't really worked out. They missed their shot at the tag titles and haven't done much since, though I myself would also add that Dillon clearly has a future while Kobb's on the tail end of his career. Either way, their tipping point was that Dillon also had some personal unresolved issues with Ranger ever since he stabbed him in the back to break up their team and join Matty Faith; the way things have been going, they've been losing ground instead of catching up on The Mission. Dillon pulled off a Lone Rider and will be seeking vengeance, I mean justice, on his own, which I guess leads to a singles program between him and Ranger. You know what, it's kind of refreshing they didn't do the tag breakup and feud thing immediately after he parted ways with Ranger and it's good they didn't do this with Kobb either, having them peacefully agree to go their separate ways instead. I'd give this one a 48 and wish Dillon the best in his future without Kobb dragging him down.

qm4JcZ6.jpgcpAGu2w.jpg25UZG0h.pngbcjiqVi.jpgZG3gG6w.jpg

Best of the Best vs John Greed & Justin Sensitive

I was unsure of where this match was going and most of all, how it would end. Somehow I was convinced that there would be interference, either by Supreme Dream Team or by The Rat Pack, but that never came to pass. Instead, we got a good wrestling match with the heels getting along nicely (perhaps due to their joint goal driving them) and using classic heel tactics to cut the ring in half, isolating Morgan. This all built to a Gilmore hot tag but Greed somehow escaped the Anger Management to tag in Sensitive, who caught his disoriented into a pinning predicament and secured the three count by pulling on his tights. Guess that means they're part of the Rat Pack now, decent match at 52.

UEdrBy2.jpg1xdP8o4.jpgWDpvDHD.jpgZMWSLM5.jpg

Unleashed Awesomeness made their entrance next in full force, including Jefferson Stardust with his midsection all taped up. The trio took turns on the mic to basically say that a lot of people, a lot of tag teams especially, seem to make plans and forget about them. As Randall pointed out, his friends are two time SWF World Tag Team champions and Huey added that they plan to win those titles again in the future. Jefferson ended the segment by saying he's ready to go but the doctors won't clear him yet, though he will be making a return sooner rather than later. Fun stuff, rated as an 81 by Mr. Eisen and I won't argue.

inYGk7m.jpg25UZG0h.pngZJznckl.jpgsjzLjoT.jpg

The Crippler vs Valiant (with Hannah)

Wrestling's all about the little details and I loved it when, at the beginning of the match, Crippler threatened to also put Valiant's arm in a sling while pointing at Hannah. The thing is, this turned out to be the story of the match as well, at least on his part because Valiant was clearly trying to regain some momentum after his loss at Awesome Impact. Like the classic vicious heel technician that he is, Crippler picked a limb and worked it over without mercy, which was all that Valiant needed to sell hard and make harder comebacks, babyface 101. Match was slow but didn't feel like it dragged, they got everything they could out of the twenty or so minutes they were given for this match and once again, Crippler held on to a submission past the ref's five count and got disqualified when Valiant got caught in an armbar but managed to get a foot on the ropes. I think a 70 is fair for this.

inYGk7m.jpgZJznckl.jpgsjzLjoT.jpgcMCn9oC.jpg

I guess I should have seen the aftermath coming a mile away: Crippler kept punishing the arm, Hannah got in the ring to try and stop him somehow, then before he could lay a hand on her, Mainstream Hernandez ran down for the save. I think involving Hannah in this made him come across as extra chivalrous than he would have if he just helped Valiant, which is good. Mr. Eisen rated the episode's finish as a 69, by the way.

I'd rate this one at 72, not as hot as the Tuesday stuff but certainly a step up from the crippled version that Uprising started as. Again, it didn't set up anything for Supreme TV other than Mikey Lau's return to the ring, but there was enough storytelling to get me curious to see what will happen, from the Rat Pack's expansion and Supreme Dream Team maybe imploding, to Dillon's solo run and the return of The Awesomeness.

TCW Total Wrestling Results
TCW returned to prime time last night with another installment of Total Wrestling. I watched it live and then watched it back again this morning to make sure I felt the same way. This is the go-home show for Battleground so let's see if they successfully sold fans on buying the Pay Per View.

The show started off with Alina America and Pamela Rojo going one on one. It was nice to start on some action. Both USPW and SWF started their most recent shows off with talking -- either in video package or promo form and it was nice to get wrestling to start a wrestling show. The match was a little sloppy. It seems like both women are still getting used to being on prime time -- though both are still working for QAW still. TCW didn't sign them to exclusive deals so it is good that they are still able to get work away from TCW. America could be a big, big star for TCW if they play her cards right. She's a marketing dream and they correctly gave her the win here with her Southern Lights Bomb. Bad match though. 30.

Right after winning, America got a microphone and challenged Electric Dreamer to a match for the World Women's Championship at Battleground. It was a simple promo and the crowd isn't really into America yet but she showed presence and skill and could really develop into a foundational piece of their women's division. I know I said that with the last segment she was in but it bares repeating. I also like that she went into her promo after wrestling. Smart touch. 48.

The big ten man tag was up next and this was clearly just a Syndicate showcase. The five men on the other side of the ring are just a hodgepodge team of guys who mostly got their ass kicked. All of the offense for the babyfaces was given to One Man Army and Kip Keenan. Like you would expect, Wolf Hawkins was the star of the segment, all of his stuff is just on another level. There was some moments where he seemed frustrated with Nate and Eddie too. Wolf got the win for his team in a good match that let the Syndicate get a big win and showcased Wolf nicely. 73.

We went backstage to Aaron Andrews. He was fired up because he's just a few days away from challenging for the World Title he should have never lost. He's going to win it back and he's going to continue to show that he's TCW through and through -- but then he's cut off by Jay Chord. The World Champion is smug and disrespectful. Aaron gets right in his face and then suddenly Ernest Youngman and Greg Gauge blindside Aaron. They both put the boots to him as security floods the area. It looks like Greg is with Ernest and Jay and I really like that if it sticks. 83.

Our come down segment was Matt Hocking and Chance Fortune. Chance looks like he's on the down slope of his career. He was a couple of steps slow in this match which was okay but not great. Matt got a win here. 59.

Backstage, Jason Azaria said that on Sunday at Battleground he is going to reveal the newest TCW signing -- a signing that is really going to change the landscape of Total Championship Wrestling. I've heard rumors of who it could be but I don't know if the rumors are true. Nobody in TCW will confirm it, but I've been told that someone is jumping from one of the other big two. I've also heard it is a female so that would have to be someone from USPW, but I could be wrong. 45.

Electric Dreamer was up next. She was accepting Alina's challenge for a match. Dreamer is a natural promo and as she gets more established in America I expect her promos to get even better. 57.

The six man tag team match was next and it was a wild affair. All six men just went at it with a reckless abandon. The Wild Ones and The Behemoths ended up brawling to the back, leaving Nick Booth and Akima Brave in the ring. Nick Booth got the win with his Lake Michigan Plunge. 64

T-Bone Bright got promo time next to hype up his match with Freddy Huggins at Battleground. He had the fiery, fast-talking promo that he's become known for. He's ready to give Freddy a whoopin' like Freddy's never received and all that. Solid promo. 67.

Next was Wolf Hawkins. He looked like he just showered. The rest of the Syndicate was around him. We were in the locker room and he started hyping up him and Mighty Mo. He said there are a lot of people who have tried to take his spot -- a lot of people who have tried to take what Wolf has earned but he's still here because he's just better than everyone else. It looked like Nate and Eddie weren't fully on board with Wolf's claims. Laying some groundwork here, I'm sure in an excellent promo. 91.

The World Television Title was on the line next. Two second generation wrestlers who have met before. They really went at it here. The crowd was really into this as they went back and forth. The match got under a minute remaining and the jumbotron came alive with the count down. As time widdled down, the crowd got more excited and then Edd hit Greg with the Party's Over and got the three count and suddenly we have a new TV Champion! 62.

The main event was next and Aaron came out limping and selling the beatdown early. Arsenal did the lion's share of the work since his partner was injured. They took the crowd on a real journey. An excellent tag team match that went back and forth and gave us a little bit of everything plus a lot of Jay Chord avoiding Aaron Andrews. Jay and Ernest took Aaron out again when they hit him with a double brainbuster on the floor, but Human Arsenal kept fighting. Jay grabbed the referee when Human Arsenal looked like he had it one and suddenly... LISA BOWEN?!?! Appeared and hit Arsenal in the head with a handbag that had to be loaded with something which allowed Ernest to hit The Hit and get the win for his team. 83.

This was a really good go home show. It sold the big matches. It got stories over. I really enjoyed it. 81.
