WWF Shotgun Saturday Night

August 1996 - Week Two

All-Star Cafe - New York, New York

3,500 in Attendance - SELL OUT!

________________________________________

Pre-Show:

Rocky Maivia and The BodyDonnas def. Salvatore Sincere and The Smokin' Gunns in 10:37 when Maivia pinned Sincere, following a Shoulder Breaker. During the match, we also had Sunny accidentally spray Billy with mace, intended for Skip, leaving it pretty much a 3-on-2 encounter. (38)

Zip sustained a Mid-Thoracic Spinal Chord Compression.

Yokozuna won a Battle Royal in 14:25 by last eliminating Mark Henry. The other members of the final four were Mark Henry, The British Bulldog and Bob Backlund. Mark Henry also had the most eliminations over the course of the match. (64)

Mark Henry was really off his game.

Yokozuna was really of his game.

- "Diesel" and "Razor Ramon" def. Bob Holly and Freddie Joe Floyd in 4:02 when Diesel pinned Freddie Joe Floyd, following a Jacknife Powerbomb. (35)

This match was a poor way to start the show and took away the crowd's initial enthusiasm.

This match cooled the crowd a little.

Pillman's Pit: Brian kicks it off by bashing the New York crowd a little, before once again emphasizing that since his former partner and best friend, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin put that washed up old has been 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper outta commission for good, and of course, since he looked up to 'The Hot Rod' when he was little, this segment will now permanently be entitled PILLMAN'S PIT!

He then brings out his guests, The Godwinn Family and says they've done a pretty good job lately, sticking their nose where it don't belong! An angry Henry and Phineas say they been comin' out here and kickin' everyone's ass week in and week out, cause they want their titles back! Out come The Smokin' Gunns, who Sunny quickly joins, leaving McMahon alone at the commentary booth.

They taunt The Godwinns some, as Skip hits the ring in street clothes! Brian instigates the Skip/Sunny situation momentarily, before Skip grabs a mic and states that he's no longer the infomercial fitness guru that Sunny wanted him to be, to which she yells back that she's the one who took him and Zip to these titles, and he ignores, before going on.

His name is Chris Candido! He's also gained his focus back, because he's cleared his head of all distractions, problems and WHORES! (51)

Brian Pillman was a real star in this segment.

And with that, all hell breaks loose! Pillman hits the deck, as it appears to be a 3-on-2 affair, with The Godwinns and Skip working over our tag-team champs! Henry O. and Candido clothesline The Gunns over the top, as we cut to the entrance curtain - where The New Rockers are looking on and smirking!

Phineas however, has Sunny in his clutches, with Hillbilly Jim handing his partner the slop bucket! Sunny screams and pleads, as Chris hypes the live audience! Henry then hypes them even more by pointing to Candido and handing him the bucket! The Godwinn Family now each have a screaming and kicking Sunny by each arm - and Candido wastes no time slopping her! Both Vince and the crowd come unglued, as poor Sunny stands there in absolute horror! (51)

UfUwG8Zs.jpgS0eVgvds.pngrCmPxYQs.jpg

- Rob Van Dam def. The Brooklyn Brawler in 1:45 by pinfall with a beautiful looking Frog Splash from the top.

Prior to the match, The Brawler cut a babyface promo, vowing to send all his hometown fans happy with triumphant victory right here, right now! Needless to say, he was met with a chorus of boos, then got waffled.

Directly after the three count, Jim Ross came out to join Vince on commentary, being that Sunny was backstage prancing and hollering about how there's no way she's going back out there tonight. But our fearless leader need not worry, cause the best play-by-play man in the business today is here to save his ass! (18)

The crowd were turned off by having a match outside of the pre-show between workers they don't have any investment in.

This match cooled the crowd a little.

Post-Match: Helmsley attacks Van Dam from behind with his walking cane! Then picks him up by the hair - and drops him with a Pedigree! (39)

Aisle: Kevin Kelly asks Triple H to explain his actions. He says he don't know why this lowly Philadelphia scum chose him, but two can play at this game! (36)

Backstage: Razor, with Diesel, wishes his old pal Savio good luck in his match tonight. Savio looks over awkwardly and says thanks. After he leaves, Razor looks to his partner and asks what kinda friend don't congratulate another after a big win like they just had? 'Big Daddy Cool' just shakes his head in disgust. JR then asked Vince what the hell Savio's problem is, to which he gets snippy, and demands Ross cut the nonsense. (41)

Recap: Austin assaults Piper last week! Ross then claims he can confirm that 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin has indeed sent 'The Hot Rod' high-tailin' it straight to the old folks' home down south! (67)

Quote

RJNuuMCs.jpgS0eVgvds.pngAKsPTYcs.jpg

- Steve Austin def. Savio Vega in 9:22 by pinfall with a Stun Gun.

Old rivals collided here in a pretty damn good one, that went into the crowd and all over the cafe. While battling outside the ring, a fan handed Savio his belt, to which he whipped Austin across the back with repeatedly - shades of their Caribbean Strap Match back in May!

After 'Stone Cold' picked up the win in a hard fought battle, JR stood up yelling "How'd ya like that, Savio?!" repeatedly on commentary. (75)

This match was poorly placed, a wild brawl really needs a crowd who are buzzing and ready for action.

Earlier: The verdict is in. Monsoon allows Clarence's client CRUSH back into the World Wrestling Federation! (43)

In-Ring: Todd Pettengill brings out Jerry 'The King' Lawler and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. Jake however, comes out with the bag, and to a thunderous ovation - which terrifies Lawler, who grabs a mic and keeps his distance from well afar.

He takes a few jabs, which seem to mildly annoy Roberts, before 'The Snake' calmly calls him out by stating that since he he knows, everyone here knows, and everyone watching at home knows how much of a yellow-belly coward 'The King' really is, seeing as he won't get in this ring and face him alone - so why don't he go find himself a partner and meet him in this very ring - right here, next week on Shotgun!

Jerry feels the pressure of the WWF's wild New York fanbase, chanting "You're A Coward!" - so much, he fast confirms with Jake: him and a partner of his choosing, against Jake 'The Drunk' Roberts and a partner of his choosing, one week from tonight? Jake nods his head yes - and Lawler tells him he's on! (56)

Jake Roberts looked good.

Recap: The Mankind / Undertaker saga. (66)

On RAW: The return of Bret 'Hitman' Hart! (73)

Quote

we95rkfs.jpgS0eVgvds.pngtR1Odgzs.jpg

- Marc Mero def. Owen Hart in 9:50 by pinfall with The Wild Thing. During the match, we also had The Bulldog accidentally hit Owen.

A competitive match here, that Owen swore he had won, after he leveled 'The Wild Man' with his cast, knocking him nearly out cold with the referee down and dazed, after getting caught in the crossfire. Cornette threw water on his face, and he began a slow count - but Mero got his foot on the bottom rope! Even The Bulldog came out, arguing in protest!

This commotion however, allowed 'The Wild Man' to recover. James E. had the official tied up on one side of the ring, with Mero reversing an Irish whip - sending Owen crashing into Davey, who'd jumped up onto the apron, obviously, looking to get involved! This allowed Marc to hit a tremendous looking jaw-breaker/DDT combo, before heading up top, and putting 'The King Of Harts' away with The Wild Thing! - which Jim Ross refers to as the prettiest looking 450 Splash he's ever seen! (79)

Marc Mero seemed off his game.

Post-Match: Sid comes charging out and grabs The Bulldog by his ankle as he attempts to slide into the ring to check on his brother-in-law, and lays him out with a Chokeslam on the floor! We also see Goldust and Marlena, who's puffing on a cigar, looking down at 'The Wild Man' and Sable from the All-Star Cafe balcony! (68)

In-Ring: Mr. Perfect narrates the face-to-face between Vader and WWF Champion, Shawn Michaels. Shawn speaks, claiming that believe it or not, he's beaten bigger, and he's beaten badder before! He then answers Perfect's next question, saying yes, he does trust Bret 'The Hitman' Hart to call this match straight down the middle, because above all else - 'The Hitman' is a man of honor and dignity.

Henning then turns his attention to Vader and James E., who's still a noticeably unkempt over what just transpired with Owen and The Bulldog, but manages to focus on the matter at hand, as he starts off by hyping Vader's unbeaten streak, and talks about how he put both President Monsoon and 'The Mighty' Yokozuna out for significant periods of time - noting that 'The Mastodon' was also the one who ran The Ultimate Warrior outta town for good! He proceeded to threaten Michaels and Lothario a bit more, before turning his full attention to the camera, and to 'The Hitman'...

kBSJ2hgs.jpg

"Bret Hart, allow me to make one thing very clear to you. While you may have some kinda dysfunctional family vendetta with the two other members of Camp Cornette, I have no personal issue with you. And this man, Vader, has no personal issue with you. But believe you me, that can change in the drop of a dime.

And I don't know whether you and Shawn are putting on some phony little act, or if you two are truly in love with each other, but consider thi..."

Just then, 'The Heart Break Kid' grabs Cornette by his collar, which leads to Vader stepping right in! The two are nose-to-nose, with Jose and James E. each posted firmly behind their client! (83)

The performance of Shawn Michaels was fantastic.

‘The Mastodon' takes two steps back - as MANKIND came from behind the champ and synched in the Mandible Claw! Lothario attempts to intertwine, but Vader just overpowers and holds him off! McMahon emphasizes about how this reeks of a setup! Jim Ross then chimes in, claiming that Michaels was right - he sure is the hunted now! Vince states that he can't believe this is happening again, that someone has to put a stop to this deranged freak! - and just like that, we're outta time. (67)

Ah, gotcha! I've been off the forums a couple weeks, must've skipped something when catching up on this thread.

No worries, that's my fault too. From now on I'll be sure to post updated PPV previews after show results instead of after prediction keys lol!

"The BITE"

By Vic Venom

(August 1996 - Week Three)

WCW Signs Two More Former WWF MegaStars!

Ted Turner strikes again. This time it's The Ultimate Warrior and 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. In The Warrior's case, his failure to no-show three live events as advertised last month led to the termination of his contract, freeing him to negotiate. In Piper's, it came down to a simple contract-expiry, and word on the street is: he was offered $100,000 per-month to stay with in the World Wrestling Federation, and he never seriously considered it. Needless to say, one can only wonder what kinda money Billionaire Ted threw at an aging star with a busted up hip, who struggles to get through a single match anymore.

We had a good gig lined up for him here, as the host of Shotgun Saturday Night, and maybe they do down south too, however, judging by what we've seen as of late, and if I was a gamblin' man - I'd bet my bottom dollar he'll get lost in the shuffle, bro! But at the end of the day, good for him for getting his get. I've always liked both The Warrior and Roddy on a personal level, so all the best to them in their future endeavors.

Justin Hawk Burial?

Justin Hawk Bradshaw reportedly got himself into a bit of hot water this past week, by botching a move and injuring Aldo Montoya at a house show, then getting mad when he was reprimanded about it. While the injury was said to be nothing all that serious, rumor has it - that's why he was pit against The Undertaker last Monday Night on Raw, who in-turn, dropped him like a bad habit.

Zip Reportedly Out Of Action For A Year?

In a Shotgun untelevised pre-show match, featuring Rocky Maivia and The BodyDonnas against Salvatore Sincere and The Smokin' Gunns, Zip sustained a Mid-Thoracic Spinal Chord Compression, which as it looks now, will keep him both out of action and off the road for quite sometime. Originally thought to be a little over a year, it will now be just eight months, due to a very successful surgery. He's been pulling double-duty as of late as one half of The BodyDonnas, and working as a road agent - so his presence will be greatly missed for the time being. I think I can speak for all of us here and reading in wishing Zip (aka: Dr. Tom Prichard) a speedy recovery!

Changes On The Horizon?

Two huge company changes are being heavily considered as we speak. The first would be a Monday Night Raw time-change, adding an additional half hour, making the show 90 minutes in total. The feeling is, between bringing in some newer talent and looking to be a bit more entertainment based as well, the shift could be extremely beneficial immediately and could happen sooner rather than later.

And the second is the opening of a WWF-based bar/lounge/nightclub of sorts, which be pinned right in the middle of Times Square! According to some, this is something that's already been in the works for quite sometime now, and it would be open to the public as a bar/restaurant during the day - with a myriad of legendary World Wrestling Federation memorabilia for fans to come and enjoy. It's also slated to be the official home of Shotgun Saturday Night once up and running, and would also feature other live events on select nights - from world-renown bands, artists, comedians, etc.

More on both of these massive stories as they progress.

That's All For Now, Rats And Rattetes!

Now go do something with your lives.

"Diesel" def. Barry Horowitz in 1:38 by pinfall with a Jacknife Powerbomb.

Following the outright squash, Vince put over the fact that there's been a lot of speculation about 'Big Daddy Cool' as of late, but one thing is for certain - this man is a monster! (35)

This match was a poor way to start the show and took away the crowd's initial enthusiasm.

This match cooled the crowd a little.

We get a live feed backstage, split with our commentary team, where McMahon and Lawler have Candido - who reveals his partner for this coming Sunday at SummerSlam to be Justin Credible! Justin, the former Aldo Montoya, says he, as well as Chris, grew sick and tired of acting like coloring book superheroes and infomercial gurus! And that now it's time to kick ass and take names, before telling The King he's got his coming as well for his heinous actions just two short weeks ago!

Candido then states how slopping Sunny on Shotgun was indeed the single greatest moment of his life, before promising to top it in just six short days at SummerSlam, by taking those belts away from her lying, gold-diggin' ass! (39)

Backstage: Mr. Perfect gets a word with The New 'And Improved' Rockers, who've been on a bit of a roll lately. The over-animated duo, laugh at the sight of a mask-less Aldo Montoya, before stating the two reasons they'll be victorious in this Sunday's Four Corners Tag Team Title match: pure wrestling and pure brains! (42)

Rob Van Dam and Rocky Maivia def. Hunter Hearst-Helmsley and Salvatore Sincere in 6:37 when Van Dam pinned Sincere, following a Five Star Frog Splash.

In terms of in-ring work, Hunter Hearst-Helmsley was head and shoulders above everyone else. Sincere was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. (48)

Hype: WWF Champion; Shawn Michaels to be in an upcoming episode of the hit series, Baywatch - starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson! (71)

Jim Ross is in the ring set to interview the returning Bret 'Hitman' Hart, who enters the arena to a massive ovation, with Vince going wild on commentary and 'The King' naturally taking his digs, claiming that Bret's parents, who the camera zooms in on-front row, are so old - they remember when the Dead Sea was sick!

'The Hitman' thanks his worldwide fanbase for all their support, and goes on about how a rival organization down south made him a quite lucrative offer, but he's ultimately chosen to stay right here at home... right here in the World Wrestling Federation!

He goes on, talking about how though him and Shawn Michaels have some unfinished business, and while he may not agree with President Monsoon's decision at the time, he did indeed lose fair and square at WrestleMania XII. And even though Shawn didn't actually defeat the champion in the given time, he himself knew what was at stake in the overtime period, and didn't get the job done.

3K0oVFZ.jpg

"You see, it's no secret that at the core, me and Shawn may have different values, but needless to say, he's done a pretty great job carrying that title with pride. However, the day is gonna come sooner than later when I'm gonna DEMAND the rematch he's been promising me, whether it be from him, or that big nasty Mastadon, Vader - and though I may not be able to dance, or waltz around here like I'm the Lochness Monster, I am The Excellence... Of Execution! And I AM... The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be!"

JR then asks him if he's heard the comments and threats made by one, James E. Cornette, to which Hart replies that he has, but regardless, he WILL call this WWF Heavyweight Title match at the SummerSlam straight down the middle - not because he's afraid of that pencil-neck geek, or any of those lowlifes he hides behind, footnoting to trust him, cause being in his family, he should know - but because at the end of the day, he's a man of dignity and honor, something Camp Cornette knows absolutely NOTHING about!

Ross moves forth by stating he'd be remiss if he didn't ask ab... 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin! 'The Hitman' claims, cutting him off. He says while Austin is one hell of a talent, and one hell of a wrestler, his mouth seems to be writing some checks his ass won't be able to cash!

Just then, Vader's theme hits - as all of Camp Cornette make their way ringside! (77)

The performance of Bret Hart was fantastic.

This angle got the crowd interested again.

Cornette, already with mic in hand, cries out that The Hitman's got a lotta nerve questioning the integrity of Camp Cornette! Vader enters the ring, with James E. behind him, getting nose to nose with Bret, while Owen and The Bulldog flank the corners from the outside - blocking off the aisleway!

In the midst of this intense moment, Shawn Michaels, Sycho Sid and Savio Vega come storming down to ringside, and the fight is on with Owen and Davey! With Cornette in a frenzy, he manages to fend Vader off, as tons of security have already arrived on the scene - and manage to eventually break this mess up, moving Camp Cornette away, as Bret, Savio, Shawn and Sid stand tall in the ring, inviting them to c'mon back down! Owen can be heard telling Vega that he's going down on Sunday, and 'The Heart Break Kid' that he's going down tonight! (78)

Bret Hart was a real star in this segment.

Shawn Michaels was a real star in this segment.

Savio Vega looked dreadful in this segment.

Crush def. Freddie Joe Floyd in 3:53 by pinfall with a Full-Nelson Slam. (36)

This match cooled the crowd a little.

Parking Lot: 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin arrives in a black pick up truck. McMahon reminds us that he just missed 'The Hitman', and thank the heavens he did! To which Lawler responds, stating that one day soon, it's inevitable that Austin's gonna get his hands on that greasy, no good head of his! (68)

Vignette: Goldust says that this coming Sunday, inside the 15ft high steel cage - he's gonna burn The Wild Man's jungle to the ground! (68)

Faarooq Asad def. Yokozuna in 5:30 by countout, when Steve Austin, who invited himself down for guest commentary, got into it verbally with Yokozuna on the outside, costing him the match.

Pre-match, clearly not over the humiliation she suffered on live TV Saturday night, Sunny reminded us that it's BULLSH*T her man, her WARRIOR, has to go through 16 others in some tournament to bring her the gold that's rightfully hers! He eliminated the champ - he should BE the champ! Vince then proceeds to remind us that his opponent, Yokozuna will be going one-on-one with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin this Sunday at SummerSlam in a huge first round match, while Faarooq's first round match will be taking place right here next Monday - against Henry O. Godwinn, yeah!

Austin, on commentary, managed to verbally call out 'The Hitman' once again, while also pushing the fact that he ain't afraid of no man, that's why he's gonna stomp a mudhole in Yokozuna's fat lard ass this coming Sunday at SummerSlam, and to everyone else who stands in his path, in the Intercontinental Title Tournament! (35)

Yokozuna seemed off his game.

This match cooled the crowd a little.

SummerSlam hype promo. (68)

Boiler Room: An eerie Mankind promo on The Undertaker, welcoming him straight into his hell this coming Sunday - the holy day. He states that for all this time he's been getting spit on by vile scum in Undertaker t-shirts, for all this time he's been wrestling matches for a TENTH of the money The Undertaker, or pretty boy Shawn Michaels gets, will be worth every miserable waking minute - before teasing his big surprise once again, claiming this will be forever etched in shrine, as the moment that time stood still! (70)

Graveyard: The Undertaker and Paul Bearer have some chilling words for Mankind, with Paul claiming that it is they who are the masters of the mind games. The Deadman then says he indeed will enter Mankind's hell this Sunday -

Owen and The Bulldog def. Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid in 11:54 when Owen pinned Michaels, following outside interference from Vader.

'The King' plugged his upcoming match on Shotgun this Saturday, where he and a partner of his choosing, will be taking on Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and a partner of his choosing - and vows to McMahon that one thing's for certain, his partner will rock the wrestling world!

A good main event here, where about halfway through Vince gets word that there's something going on in the back - and we see "Diesel" and "Razor" attacking and stomping away at Savio Vega!

The end came when Sycho Sid and The British Bulldog managed to brawl their way into the crowd, with Shawn in full control, hitting the flying elbow off the top and queuing up the band! Cornette hops up on the apron in a panic, as Michaels can't help but turn his attention that way! Just as 'The Heart Break Kid' gets close, James E. jumps down - and turns directly into a right hook from Jose Lothario, and the crowd goes wild!

With the ref trying to regain control out in the audience as Sid and Davey go at each other hard, ahead of their well-awaited encounter Sunday, Shawn turns around and catches a devastating clothesline from Vader! 'The Mastodon' then picks him up, and launches the champion into the corner - coming in with a thunderous avalanche! He heads to the outside, as 'The King Of Harts' begins coming to his senses - Vader slides him his Slammy Award underneath the bottom rope!

From there, he waits in the wings, and WAFFLES Michaels after he struggles to his feet and succeeds, busting him wide open! The Bulldog, who's gotten the better of Sid, sees this and rushes the official back towards ringside - where Owen Hart earns himself a pinfall victory over the World Wrestling Federation Champion! Much to Lawler's chagrin - questioning where was 'The Hitman' when Shawn needed him, as RAW goes off the air! (70)

This match got the crowd interested again.

* Welp, there you have it - the triumphant return! A bit disappointed in this show overall, ratings-wise at least, especially cause Crush/FJF got a better rating than Faarooq/Yoko  - that's prolly a combination of the countout finish and running this show up in no-man's land Maine though, if I had to guess. However, things are starting to really heat up now, heading into the hottest party of the summer - Shotgun preview coming soon!

Thanks for reading :D *

And my pick for Chris Candido's partner: I'm going to go with Chris Jericho, making his WWF debut...

I'm definitely here for it!

Excited to see this return!

I'm going with Shane Douglas for the partner!

(Bonus Question: who will be Chris Candido's new tag team partner? 1-2-3 Kid)

Thank you all! And yes, anyone of those three (Jericho, Shane, or Waltman) probably woulda been better than Aldo lol. That being said, those guys are on written contracts with WCW and ECW, respectively. But you'll all be happy to know that before starting this game, I did go through, and set every written contract's length to random in both promotions, so needless to say - anyone could be showing up at anytime going forth!

Just as long as I have some kinda plan for them, of course.
