WWF 1996: Attitude Adjustment!

Recommended Posts

IfINLmgs.jpgstYzb32s.jpg

I don't have any kind of crazy backstory other than I'm playing as Vince Russo, WCW is taking seemingly everybody away from us, and the nWo is fresh and in full swing. It's August 1996, and if the WWF is gonna survive this WAR, then there clearly needs to be some kind of ADJUSTMENT....

What's Happening?

- Last month, at In Your House IX: International Incident, the main event was set to be a colossal six man tag, pitting WWF Champion, Shawn Michaels, Intercontinental Champ, Ahmed Johnson and The Ultimate Warrior up against Camp Cornette: Vader, The British Bulldog and Owen Hart. But after failure to appear as advertised to three WWF live events in Indianapolis, Detroit and Pittsburgh, president Gorilla Monsoon ordered The Ultimate Warrior to be suspended indefinitely - which ultimately led Shawn to dig into his past, and recruit his one time friend (and foe), Sycho Sid to take his place!

- After putting Michaels down with the Vader Bomb, and scoring the fall for his team, The Mastodon has been granted a shot at the World Wrestling Federation Title, later on this month at SummerSlam!

- Ahmed Johnson is our current IC Champion, and just last week on Raw, he was ambushed by a man in a gladiator helmet who goes by the name Faarooq Asad, with none other than Sunny yelling beside him! What the hell was that all about?

- Speaking of Sunny, her Smokin' Gunns hold the Tag Titles, thanks to her turning on The BodyDonnas and essentially following the gold. With Skip and Zip coming strong, both The Godwinns and The New Rockers are also said to be gunning straight for the champs!

- Since gruesomely attacking The Undertaker some months ago, "The Deranged" Mankind has been running rampant through any and all comers thus far in the World Wrestling Federation. The Man From The Darkside however, has been coarsely making Mankind's existence a living hell as well! The two are set to clash in the first ever Boiler Room Brawl, later on this month at SummerSlam!

- Goldust and "Wild Man" Marc Mero can't seem to stay out of each other's business as of late, with Goldust and Marlena having some kind of strange obsession with Sable, Marc's girlfriend. They're set to square off at SummerSlam, but with tensions flaring this hot, who knows if they'll both even make it 'til then? Only time will tell.

- With some young and promising talent, such as the 1996 King Of The Ring, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, "The Connecticut Blue Blood" Hunter Hearst-Helmsley and Puerto Rico's favorite son, Savio Vega, meshed in with a few seasoned veterans here in the World Wrestling Federation, such as "The King Of Harts" Owen Hart, his brute powerhouse brother-in-law, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, and the one and only Jake "The Snake" Roberts - this Attitude Adjustment could just be exactly what's required to soar the WWF into its next phase!

WWF In Your House: International Incident

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin def. "Wild Man" Marc Mero.

The BodyDonnas def. The Smoking Gunns in a non-title match.

Mankind def. Henry Godwinn (sub for Jake "The Snake" Roberts).

The Undertaker def. Goldust by disqualification, when Mankind appeared through a hole in the floor of the ring.

Vader, The British Bulldog and Owen Hart def. Shawn Michaels, Ahmed Johnson and Sycho Sid.

"The BITE"

By Vic Venom

(August 1996 - Week One)

Ahmed Johnson forced to FOREFIT the WWF Intercontinental Title!

Following the heinous attack by newcomer, Faarooq Asad last week on Raw, Ahmed was rushed to a local medical facility, where he diagnosed with a ruptured kidney, which will now sideline him approximately 3-4 months. In turn, he's relinquished the gold, and promised all his fans around the world that while the road to recovery may be long - he's coming back stronger and hungrier than ever!

RAW Goes LIVE!

Between the stiff competition brought forth by World Championship Wrestling's Monday Nitro (especially as of late), and the world wide web growing by the day, we've decided to go LIVE each and every Monday night - with the general feeling being that with small groups of people are sharing both house show and pre-taped results online, this inevitably needed to happen sooner than later. There's also talks of Raw running longer than 60 minutes at some point in the future, but for now, it will remain as is.

Shotgun Saturday Night!

We'll be debuting a brand new late night broadcast, titled Shotgun Saturday Night, airing from 11pm-12am EST on the USA Network. The presentation of this show will have a completely different look and feel, as it will air live from various nightclubs and ballrooms all over New York City! It'll also be promoted heavily this week as: "More RAW than RAW" - and the premiere will feature long-time Saturday Night Main Event announcer, Vince McMahon, who'll joined by the lovely, yet ever-so-devious Sunny on colour! While we don't know how this whole concept will play out in the long haul, one thing seems to be absolutely certain: This. Will. Be. Wild!

New Talent Search!

With all these adjustments incoming, and the additional Tv time, we're looking to revamp our roster a bit. Furthermore, it's safe to say, we'll be seeing the debut of a brand new third-generation superstar on the very first edition of Shotgun Saturday Night!

That's All For Now, Rats And Rattetes!

Now go do something with your lives.

Here for this 96 is a great year to book for the wwf some much opportunity.

Thanks man. My initial idea was to work with WCW, and the fresh nWo, but in that case, no matter what you do storyline-wise, it's really hard to take the belt off Hulk for a long time without making them look super weak haha. Definitely much more immediate opportunity here I think as well.

It's exciting to have all those young WWF names in 96 too isn't it. Looking forward to seeing the roster and how things start!

Will definitely be keeping an eye on this one, looks quite promising!

Sure is lol I have a few pretty wild ideas actually heading into the immediate future (that also stay true to the time I think). Btw I been a silent Lloyd mark for many, many years now, dating back to your epic WWF '89 "It. Was. Me." Jake Roberts moment :D.

And, I keep seeing it on here, so definitely gonna start in with your new Invasion dynasty on my downtime at work tonight!

August 1996 - Week One

Live from the Duluth Entertainment Center in Duluth, Minnesota!

Prediction Key:

Jerry "The King" Lawler Vs. "The Portuguese Man O' War" Aldo Montoya

The New Rockers Vs. The BodyDonnas

10-Man RAW Invitational Battle Royal:

Winner Receives A WWF Title Shot The Night After SummerSlam!

The British Bulldog - Goldust - Justin Hawk Bradshaw - Mankind - Marc Mero

Owen Hart - Savio Vega - Steve Austin - Sycho Sid - The Undertaker

Bonus Questions:

- Who will be the Raw Invitational runner-up?

- Who will have the most eliminations?

* This was pre-taped in real life, and promoted the week before, so I decided to keep the card relatively the same, even though Raw's now gone live here. Ahmed Johnson won the invitational battle royal (it was an 11-Man), but it was taped the same night he actually got hurt, and still aired. What a mess lol - I however, ultimately decided this was the best way to keep things the most legit under the circumstances.

Ok. Big thanks to everyone who's checked in here so far! :D *

Haha way too short-lived but thank you so much! I'm gonna dive in your WCW 1992 very soon as well. Loved those days!

Really fun time period to play around with. Look forward to seeing what you've got coming this way.

Thanks and yes, really fun time. I got a few tricks up my sleeve, so hopefully you'll enjoy!

WWF Monday Night Raw

August 1996 - Week One

Duluth Entertainment Center - Duluth, Minnesota

7,475 in Attendance

________________________________________

Pre-Show:

Faarooq Asad def. Alex Porteau in 3:22 by pinfall with a Dominator. (46)

Alex Porteau and Faarooq Asad have great chemistry and it showed in their performances.

Jake Roberts and Yokozuna def. The Brooklyn Brawler and The Goon in 5:39 when Jake Roberts pinned The Goon, following a DDT. In terms of in-ring work, Yokozuna was head and shoulders above everyone else. The Brooklyn Brawler was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. (44)

Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji are a very poor combination, they do not click at all.

Televised Broadcast:

Quote
KOvM1ZAs.jpg2VFAns9s.jpgNwNnygps.jpg

- Jerry Lawler def. Aldo Montoya in 7:47 by pinfall with two Piledrivers. (41)

Jerry Lawler seemed off his game.

Post-Match: 'The King' proceeds to add insult to injury, and pours what he claims to be "Jake Roberts' tag team partner", Jim Beam right down his protege's throat! Vince and JR on commentary are absolutely disgusted with his actions. McMahon is quick to mention that Jake will indeed be calling in next week - and Lawler will be back on commentary! (34)

In Your House Recap: Vader pins Shawn in the six-man tag. (72)

Backstage: Dok Hendrix gets a word with Camp Cornette. Owen talks about how he'll be facing some chump rookie on the inaugural edition of Shotgun Saturday Night, before mentioning he and Bulldog have a masterful plan for tonight. The Bulldog confirms, and says he can reveal just one small portion - that he personally will assure that Sycho Sid receives an early exit. James E. goes on about how after one of his two men win this Invitational, and Vader does as he did just two short weeks ago - PINS the World Wrestling Federation champion, Camp Cornette, not Sycho Sid, will be the ones who rule the world! (69)

Vader and James E. Cornette have great chemistry.

Shotgun Saturday Night hype promo -- debuts this coming Saturday Night on USA! (64)

Backstage: Todd Pettengill conducts an interview with newcomer, and the first ever third-generation star to ever compete here in the WWF, Rocky Maivia! The kid says that HE will be the "chump rookie" going up against the 'Slammy Award Winning' Owen Hart, and to remember that anyone who's ever become great at anything, had to be successful at a point where EVERYONE doubted them. And that he'll see him on Shotgun Saturday Night! (44)

- The New Rockers def. The Bodydonnas in 5:49 when Leif Cassidy pinned Zip with a quick roll-up, while using the ropes for leverage. (50)

During the match, we also had Sunny and The Smokin' Gunns distract The Bodydonnas. Jerry Lawler also returned to commentary, but Vince invited Ross to stay for the duration of the broadcast. He returned and awkwardly stated that he would say thanks, but "it's about time" seems more appropriate.

Skip and Zip got a tag team specialist bonus.

Post-Match: The Godwinns come charging down! Four team brawl! (40)

This angle cooled the crowd a little.

SummerSlam hype promo. (71)

We cut to what appears to be the arena boiler room, where Goldust, Marlena and Mankind are all seated/lying on the ground. Both Goldust and Mankind seem eerily obsessed with Sable, with Mankind even referring to her as "Mommy" throughout. Oddly enough, there was no mention tonight's battle royal, or The Undertaker. (72)

Mankind benefitted from having a groundswell of public support.

Mr. Perfect conducts a candid interview with WWF Champion, Shawn Michaels, from his home in San Antonio. Shawn says it's a lot different being the hunted, and not the hunter. Perfect asks him about Vader, and the random attack by Mankind last week, to which Michaels says the attack was just another day in the life of the World Wrestling Federation champion, and that the competition is at an all-time high right now. But with his Kliq standing strong behind him, they'll have to pry this title from his cold dead hands, so - Vader, Mankind, tonight's Invitational winner, and whoever the hell else - you're all goin' down! (70)

Split Screen: Our announcing team has a word with Sunny and Faarooq Asad. Sunny claims that this is indeed her new man, and she plans on taking him straight to singles gold here in the World Wrestling Federation. Faarooq then aggressively sates that he's from a fighting background, and putting Ahmed Johnson down was just the beginning! And much like the tiger, he's here to rule this jungle! (70)

Graphic: Next week, it’s The Bulldog Vs. Michaels in a non-title match. McMahon mentions that the World Wrestling Federation has never had a fighting champion quite like 'The Heart Break Kid' before - and 'The King' stumps him, by saying "not even 'The Hitman', McMahon??" - obviously looking to stir trouble. (68)

Graphic: Also next week, a major update on the status of Bret 'The Hitman' Hart! JR claims that his sources are hearing that Bret is going to announce his retirement right here next week! Lawler say's he knew it! 'The Hitman' is yellow! And he's afraid of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin! (73)

10-Man RAW Invitational Battle Royal

Winner To Receive A WWF World Title Shot The Night After SummerSlam!

- Goldust won the 10-Man Raw Invitational Battle Royal in 12:55, by last eliminating Marc Mero, to earn a WWF World Heavyweight Championship match the night after SummerSlam.

The Undertaker, who was the final participant introduced, came running down to the ring, went right at Mankind, clotheslining him over the top rope - with the momentum taking 'The Deadman' over as well! Justin Hawk Bradshaw, with an assist from Owen Hart, eliminated Savio Vega. The British Bulldog then tossed Bradshaw, and the two high-five, as their plan is working thus far - before turning into a thunderous double clothesline from Sycho Sid - and just like that, both Owen and The Bulldog are gone! Cornette and Clarence Mason are beside themselves, as the live crowd erupts into a frenzy!

The Undertaker and Mankind come brawling back down the aisleway and into the ring, then right back out again, and through the crowd, with Vince emphasizing that someone's gotta do something, cause these two men are out to kill each other!

We're down to the final four. Goldust is tied up with Marc Mero, as Sid comes to blows with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin right in the center! The big man gets the upper hand, sending Austin into the ropes, catching him with a big boot and yelling "Power Bomb" to the audience! Just then though, Owen and The Bulldog, still on the outside pleading their case, hop onto the apron - this distracts Sid long enough for 'Stone Cold' to sneak behind and attempt to dump him over - The Bulldog pulls down the top rope - and Austin is successful! We're down to three.

After a couple minutes of Goldust and Austin working over the 'Wild Man' together, Steve sucker-punches him and starts putting the boots to both men, before hoisting Goldust up! This however, gave Mero a little time to recover, and when Austin saw him coming and attempted a Stunner, he countered, shoving Steve into the ropes - sending him over the top with a beautiful standing dropkick! "A little sweet revenge from the King Of The Ring tournament!" JR shouts - and then there were two.

With Marc seemingly in the driver's seat, Marlena began stalking Sable on the outside. While she clenched her fists and seemed ready to go if Marlena got too close, Sable was visibly creeped out by this whole bizarro situation. This also distracted Mero long enough for Goldust to nail a low-blow and score the final elimination! (72)

Marc Mero was really off his game.

Steve Austin benefitted from having a groundswell of public support.

The Undertaker benefitted from having a groundswell of public support.

Post-Match: Jim Ross attempts to get a word with Goldust -- who's immediately ambushed by the 'Wild Man'! Chaos ensues! (65)

Vince then says he's gotten word that something is going on backstage and we've sent a camera crew in the midst of all this. The Undertaker and Mankind are still brawling in the arena lobby! Then states we're outta time, and we'll see you all on the first ever edition of Shotgun! (70)

This is really good! Did not expect a Goldust win in the main!

* I'm liking this format a lot, but still feel it's missing a little something. Shotgun preview coming next! *

This is not a criticism, just a suggestion that might be the missing piece, but having the text more centered rather than needing to read all the way from the left to the right of the screen is a great way to make things look even better! A lot of writers, myself included, have a black border around our posts to keep things narrower and faster/easier to read. Again, not a criticism!

Push Vader to the moon!!
