WWF Shotgun Saturday Night

August 1996 - Week Three

Powerplay - Cleveland, Ohio

3,250 in Attendance - SELL OUT!

Televised Broadcast:

RAW Recap: Post-show, Sid attends to a bloody Shawn Michaels, after he was busted wide open, along with the WWF medical staff. We cut to our announcers, who welcome us, heavily promoting SummerSlam in Cleveland tomorrow night! With The Brooklyn Brawler standing in the ring, Brian Pillman makes his way out, in a leather jacket, with an all-over print Cincinnati Bengals tee underneath - taunting the audience on his way down! He then grabs a mic from outside the ring:

459425756_BrianPillman7.jpg.2e0790f8c41e5c657db803f7379e986c.jpg

................ CLEVELAND SUCKS!!! "

He then makes his way over to the commentary booth, informing Vince and Sunny that since there's no Pillman's Pit tonight, they'll have the honor and privilege of being graced with his presence right here for the evening! Furthermore, he states that he has a huge announcement to make later tonight in regards to SummerSlam - to which Sunny claims it's funny he should say that, cause she has a huge announcement later on tonight in regards to SummerSlam as well! (67)

- Sycho Sid def. The Brooklyn Brawler in 0:59 by pinfall with a Thunderous Chokeslam. (54)

Prior to the match, The Brawler began to cut another promo, trashing the live audience in Cleveland but promising all his die-hard fans in New York to make up for last week with triumphant victory! Before long however, Sycho Sid made his entrance to an explosive ovation and put him away in under a minute.

Post-Match: Sid yells into the mic, warning Camp Cornette and The Bulldog that the hours, and minutes are ticking! (69)

Vignette: A sleazy porn-star looking guy, named VAL VENIS appears to be coming to the WWF. (9)

Pillman freaks out a bit about that being the incomparable Jenna Jameson! Vince doesn't seem to have a clue who she is, while Sunny puts her over as an inspiration to all.

Live Feed: Our announce team has Austin - who says tomorrow night starts the Austin-era in the World Wrestling Federation, when his path to the Intercontinental Title begins! He also warns 'The Hitman' Bret Hart to be on alert!

From there, Pillman chimes in and asks when he's finally gonna square off against 'The Hitman', to which 'Stone Cold' replies stating whenever that Canadian Chicken SH-T wants to get back in the ring and step up, Austin 3:16 will be more than happy to whoop his ass!

Steve tosses his headset down and walks off, as Brian asks Vince what's wrong with Canada. (82)

Steve Austin came across well.
Steve Austin benefitted from having a hot catchphrase.

In-Ring: Rob Van Dam makes his entrance and cuts a heart-felt promo in front of his near-hometown audience. He goes on about growing up a little north of here in Battle Creek, Michigan - and how he truly appreciates all the love and support. He then claims to be super grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime starting tomorrow night, and hopes to be your next Intercontinental champion, and vows to carry the belt with both pride and dignity, much like Ahmed Johnson did! But first, he's got a pretty big massive task ahead of him this evening, so let's get this party started! (53)

- Vader def. Rob Van Dam in 5:41 via disqualification, when Shawn Michaels ran in and attacked Vader. (70)

Vader makes his entrance, as McMahon informs us that president Monsoon has ordered both he, and 'The Heart Break Kid' take on two newcomers here in the World Wrestling Federation, a mere 24 hours before their SummerSlam championship match!

A pretty competitive contest here in the early going, with Van Dam's unorthodox style catching 'The Mastodon' completely off guard, but before long, Vader caught him mid-air and delivered a crushing powerbomb! A few power-moves later, and Cornette ordered the big man to deliver The Vader Bomb, to which he did - twice!

To add insult to injury, Cornette's monstrous client picked him up after the count of two following each one, before climbing up for a third, but 'The Heart Break Kid' comes flying down, and has seen enough - getting himself some of the number one contender!

This match got the crowd hotter.

Post-Match: A swarm of security breaks up the HBK/Vader brawl - the Ohio State Police eject Vader and Cornette! (68)

In-Ring: Savio calls out 'Diesel' and 'Razor', but gets 'The King Of Harts' in the aisleway with a mic instead!

1035679585_OwenHart6.jpg.aa00d2eefd07cdd2e915f142690e989a.jpg

"Cause you see Savio Vega, you Puerto Rican slime - once I run through you, and whoever else in my way to become the NEW World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion, and once Vader lays waste to that dancing lowlife loser of a champion, Shawn Michaels - Camp Cornette will be atop the WWF once and for all, with the Intercontinental Title, the World Heavyweight title, and MY 1996 SLAMMY AWARD! Whoooo!" (51)

Owen Hart came out of this looking excellent.

In-Ring: 'Diesel' and 'Razor' come through the crowd in street clothes, and beat down Savio, as Owen laughs!

On commentary, 'The Loose Cannon' laughs hysterically as well, saying it's just too funny to him that 'Big Daddy Cool' and 'The Bad Guy' keep getting the best of that Puerto Rican slime! Vince proceeds to call him despicable, and even Sunny agrees that Owen's words were uncalled for and Brian needs to knock it off! (52)

- Jake Roberts and Mark Henry def. Jerry Lawler and The Honky Tonk Man in 10:44 when Mark Henry pinned Jerry Lawler, following interference from Justin Credible.

In terms of in-ring work, Jerry Lawler was head and shoulders above everyone else. Mark Henry was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. (48)

'The King' makes his grand entrance, ripping into some people in the aisle/front row along the way making disparaging remarks such as: "Why don't you slip into a little something more comfortable? Like a coma!" then responds to a kid yelling at him; "Hey! When you were born, mommy and daddy took one look at your face and your rear end and said oh look - Siamese twins!"

From there, he goes on to unveil his mystery partner, claiming to have kept it tight knit within the royal family, with the man who humiliated that drunken buffoon Jake Roberts in front of 93,000 people at WrestleMania III - his very own cousin, The Honky Tonk Man!

Honky comes out and does his usual schtick, before entering the ring and hollering about how it's great to be back here in the World Wrestling Federation, and for those who may not be aware, they're currently in the presence of the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all-time! He yells for them to hit his music once again, but just as he starts singing along, the ominous Snake theme cuts it right off!

Jake arrives to a big ovation, Revelations' bag draped over his right shoulder, mic in his left hand. He tells 'Wayne' it's good to see him again - then wastes no time introducing the man who's got his back this evening, making his in-ring debut here in the World Wrestling Federation: 'The Worlds Strongest Man' Mark Henry!

The big man comes jogging out, as the ring quickly clears just as they enter! Eventually the match starts and it was nothing short of a knock-down drag-out affair straight from jump. The official lost control rather quickly, as all four brawled up, down and all throughout the venue! This is normally a massive arcade hall, which ultimately led to head-smashing off a race car booth, and 'The King' catching a monstrous body slam through an ice-hockey table from 'The Worlds Strongest Man'!

The finish came when Honky went to clean Roberts' clock with his guitar, but got caught with a low-blow on the outside! On the inside, Lawler seems to be in full-control over Henry, as Jake slides in under the bottom rope. There seems to be some kind of commotion in the crowd - 'The Snake' gets the ref's attention, and from nowhere, Justin Credible LEVELS Jerry over the head with a kendo stick! A recovered Mark Henry was quick to make the cover and pick up the win for his team!

Following the match, Roberts calls to the crowd to unleash Revelations, as his two comrades cheer him on as well! But just as he does, The Honky Tonk Man yanks 'The King' out by his feet and hightails it outta there, with Jake tapping the side of his head, notioning that he's outsmarted Honky and Lawler!

SummerSlam hype promo. (70)

We cut to our announcing team, McMahon says with both Sunny and Brian claiming to have some big announcements in regards to SummerSlam, so the floor is theirs.

"Ladies first" says Pillman, and Sunny reveals that she will be taking part in a Bikini Beach Blast Off tomorrow night - featuring herself, Marlena, and Sable! (47)

After some over-reacting shock and excitement, Brian now has the floor, and states that tomorrow night at SummerSlam, he has a very special guest coming to Pillman's Pit - the one, the only: 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett!

Vince then briefly talks about the news that broke earlier this week about Jeff's return, and with Mr. Jarrett being a former WWF Intercontinental Champ himself, he will indeed be part of the forthcoming tournament, squaring off against Jake 'The Snake' Roberts in the opening round, this coming Monday on RAW! (47)

- Shawn Michaels def. Crush by pinfall in 8:01 with Sweet Chin Music, in a non-title match. (79)

A pretty good main event here, with Crush's sheer power netting him a few near-falls over the champion, but his ring rust eventually kicked in, as he made a costly mistake - leading to Shawn hitting his signature flying elbow off the top, queuing up the band and landing a sharp, clean superkick!

Michaels proceeded to celebrate with some of his Kliq in the front row, while obnoxiously taunting a livid Clarence Mason from afar in the process.

This match got the crowd hotter.
The performance of Shawn Michaels stood out as being good.

We then close out with the official contract signing for tomorrow night's Steel Cage Match between Goldust and 'The Wild Man' - where the winner gets a WWF World Heavyweight Title opportunity in just two short days on Monday Night Raw! And coarsely, the loser will square off with ex-World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental champ, Marty Jannetty in an opening round tournament match right here next week on Shotgun!

All throughout, 'The Bizarre One' was playing visual mind games from across the table, but President Monsoon somehow gets both men to keep the peace and sign, as Sunny trash talks Marlena and Sable, saying they've got absolutely nothing on her - labeling one a freak and the other a tramp on commentary!

An intense stare-down takes place, just after Mero puts down his stamp of approval and looks upward. Goldust runs his fingers up his body, as Mankind appears - once again, eerily yelling the word "Mommy" relentlessly toward Sable, who's so mortified, she's shivering! Goldust and Marlena are quick to escape.

Just as Marc turns around to go after the deranged lunatic, we see a tap on his shoulder from behind - and Shawn Michaels nails him with Sweet Chin Music on the outside, finally getting some payback as Shotgun goes off the air! (77)

Gorilla Monsoon underperformed.
The performance of Shawn Michaels was fantastic.

"Opposites ATTACK!"

WWF SummerSlam 1996

August 1996 - Week Three

Gund Arena - Cleveland, Ohio

38,000 in Attendance - SELL OUT!

________________________________________

Free-For-All:

- Rocky Maivia def. Salvatore Sincere in 7:24 by pinfall with a Spine Buster. (38)

Rocky Maivia advances to the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

________________________________________

Pay-Per-View Broadcast:

The show opens with a unique video package, themed 'Monsters Vs. Monster Slayers', highlighting our two massive main events - pinning Vader and Mankind as the evil monsters, countered by WWF Champion, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker as our heroic slayers.

We're greeted by Vince, Jim Ross and an absolutely electric Cleveland audience. Owen Hart's theme blazes through the PA system as they have to yell even louder while promoting all the action, before turning their direct attention to our opening contest!

WWF Intercontinental Title Tournament - Round One:

1418631132_OwenHart6.jpg.7f9cd728254722e8f3a419ffe0c0dccf.jpg1676523724_VS2.jpg.50fb2e25d48585b7ba7d0100574c71bb.jpg1553734418_SavioVega4.jpg.f39857e6a6ab12ce78aa07b2a6bbcfa0.jpg

- Owen Hart def. Savio Vega in 16:08 by submission with the SharpShooter, after waffling him with his cast and knocking him out cold, behind the official's back. During the match, we also had 'Razor' and 'Diesel' distract Savio. (71)

A damn good opener here, as JR professes afterward, which started off with some classic chain wrestling between to of the best ring workers in the world today, with the momentum swapping back and forth frequently. Conspicuous by his absent was one, James E. Cornette, Vince claimed - as he's prepping Vader for his huge WWF Championship match later this evening. About mid-way through, The King's obnoxious theme hits!

He joins McMahon and Ross on commentary, informing them they'll now have the honor of being graced with his presence for the evening. When they ask if he's safe out here with Jake 'The Snake' Roberts on the loose, he tells them not to worry, cause rest assured, 'The Snake' has been de-venomized!

The match continued, with 'The King Of Harts' in full control for some time, but the tide eventually turned, when a winded Savio held onto the ropes, following an Irish whip and Owen missed a dropkick! Vega then had the presence of mind to hit a running clothesline, rallying the crowd - seemingly having things well in hand!

1437715448_FakeDiesel.jpg.8b6c5d462035ea32bcb0b7f99eba1f37.jpg1437001536_FakeRazorRamon.jpg.1a6242dc2306df3c109b4c5d5a429b41.jpg

From there, we see 'Diesel' And 'Razor' coming down through the audience, and straight up to the steel barricade!  They stand in front the crowd taunting Savio, as the ref yells at them to get lost! Just as Vega turns his focus back to his opponent - he gets WAFFLED by Owen's cast right in the kisser! In near-perfect unison, 'Diesel' and 'Razor' throw their hands in the air, and calmly leave the scene - as the official finally turns back to the action, just in time to catch 'The King Of Harts' applying the Sharpshooter to his unconscious adversary. Vince questions how long it takes for this injury to actually heal - to which Lawler claims he's spoken to Owen and he's informed him first hand he's just had a few minor setbacks, before calling him a hero for even competing tonight.

This match got the crowd hotter.

Owen Hart advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Moments Ago: We cut backstage and see Roberts with 'The King' in his grasp, set to DDT him on the locker room floor, then getting blasted over the head by The Honky Tonk Man's guitar! Lawler laughs like a child on commentary, emphasizing once again that we'll be seeing no more of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts this evening! (51)

Backstage: Mr. Perfect conducts a pre-match interview with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, who gloats about being the very next Intercontinental Champion, and how there ain't no one out there who can do a damn thing about it - not even that fat Japanese lard-ass, Yokozuna! Furthermore, he states that he's been lookin' all over this building for 'The Hitman', but remember this: Bret can run and hide from this ass-whoopin' now, but Austin 3:16 knows exactly where he'll be later! (67)

- Steve Austin def. Yokozuna in 5:17 by pinfall, after a ring-malfunction, with a handful of tights. (64)

Sticking and moving, trying to figure out how to approach his massive Japanese opponent, Austin seemed a bit overwhelmed by his brute power throughout. Yoko fought him off well, took control, and planted 'Stone Cold' with a big belly-to-belly suplex, before dragging him to the corner and signaling for the Bonzai Drop! But as he climbs and begins bouncing on the middle rope - the rope suddenly breaks! The big man falls backwards awkwardly, as Austin manages to slip away at the very last moment, then uses all his strength to push forward on his gargantuan legs into the roll-up position - grabbing a handful of tights, with the official's sight obstructed, and scores the three count, in what most would consider a quite the upset!

Steve Austin and Yokozuna have great chemistry and it showed in their performances.
Steve Austin advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Pillman's Pit: Brian once again trashes the live audience, whilst cutting a short promo on how HIS Cincinnati Bengals ran that horse SH*T Cleveland team right outta town and straight to Baltimore - before giving the grand introduction to his very special guest: the single, greatest WWF Intercontinental Champion of all-time - WELCOME BACK 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett!

Jeff comes out, sporting a new look, to a mixed reaction, as Pillman's over-animated excitement causes McMahon to make a half-sarcastic remark, setting the tone that he appears to be none-too-thrilled. Once he hits the ropes and taunts the crowd, holding his signature acoustic guitar high, the music fades and Brian welcomes him back to the World Wrestling Federation, and of course, to Pillman's Pit!

Jarrett thanks him, and says he's sure as hell got a lot to get off his chest! He starts with Vince, surprisingly, talking about his vision of the great 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett as a country music singer.....

2031745497_JeffJarrett7.jpg.e5649cb202f4515002d64999f13a6f05.jpg

"And quite frankly McMahon, your vision SUCKED!

Let's go down the list. You put me in the ring with a clown... a lowlife drug addict... and a black man from the hood who can't even speak the English language! Isn't it just wildly apparent that since you couldn't put my dad outta business like you did every other promoter in this industry - you figured you'd get your vengeance by killing his son?! Some things go beyond coincidences, Vince, and guess what? I'm still here standing tall - and I'm still the very best pure wrestling talent this industry has to offer today! Not Bret Hart... not Shawn Michaels... not 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin... ME! 'The Last Outlaw' Jeff Jarrett!"

Ross laughs and asks McMahon why everyone that either works, or has worked here thinks he's a complete slime-ball, as a grinning Brian asks him about his opening round match with Jake 'The Snake' Roberts tomorrow night on RAW, to which Jeff looks at his guitar and states he'd head back there and clean his clock right now, but from what he's heard, someone else has beaten him to the punch! He proceeds by vowing to take his Intercontinental Title back, before sending fair warning to both Shawn and Vader - he's got a one way ticket straight to the top, before taking the mic from Pillman, and leaning over the ropes, looking right at Vince, uttering the words: "AIN'T I GREAT?!" (69)

The performance of Brian Pillman was fantastic.

This angle got the crowd hotter.

Backstage: Dok Hendrix gets a pre-match word with Sycho Sid, who shouts about two men entering, and one man surviving - and when it's all said and done, the man who will be standing tall; is the Master, and the RULER... of the world. (70)

- Sycho Sid def. The British Bulldog in 7:42 by pinfall with a Powerbomb. During the match, a Clarence Mason/James E. scrum on the outside distracted The Bulldog. (80)

A straight power-on-power affair here, with The Bulldog mostly having the advantage throughout. Another Camp Cornette member going at it on his own. But a few minutes in, Clarence Mason made his way out, stopping halfway in the aisleway with a clipboard, apparently taking notes of some kind.

Before long, out comes a raging James E., accusing his 'lawyer' of trying to court Davey, all the meanwhile - The Bulldog drives Sid into the canvas with his Running Powerslam! Instead of going for the cover though, he notices Mason and Cornette nose-to-nose on the outside. A costly mistake, with his attention turned for approximately a full minute - just enough time for the psychotic big man to recover. The Bulldog turns back around into a monstrous chokeslam, followed by a devastating Powerbomb! Cleveland gives Sycho Sid a roaring ovation upon the ref's three count - leaving James E. absolutely livid on the outside!

Sycho Sid advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Recap: Maivia defeats Sincere, advancing to the Intercontinental Title tournament on the SummerSlam Free-For-All! McMahon reminds 'The King' that it will be him, and newcomer Rocky Maivia in just six short days on Shotgun Saturday Night in an opening round match! Lawler laughs, and congratulates Rocky on his WWF run and legacy; he made it through a handful of matches, which is more than most - before that greasy Samoan head of his got pile-driven into oblivion! (21)

In-Ring: Todd Pettengill gets an exclusive interview with Faarooq Asad and Sunny. He starts with Faarooq, who aggressively shouts about how since HE is the one who put the Intercontinental Champion - that no good Uncle Tom, Ahmed Johnson, outta commission - it should be HE who is hoisting that belt over his shoulder as we speak!

"But you see, growing up in the hood, I'm used to having the odds stacked against me! I persevered - and it turned me into a Warrior! And this warrior right here is gonna slap the taste out that ugly snaggletooth hillbilly Henry Godwinn MOUTH tomorrow night!"

Sunny then takes over, continuing on, stating that it's no secret President Monsoon comes from a time where people of color were not treated equally - hence the reason her man doesn't even have a match tonight! She then goes into a little tirade about how it's only a matter of time before SHE holds all the gold here in the World Wrestling Federation, and just a matter of moments before she's hoisting the Bikini Beach Blast Off trophy high up for all to see! Because what Sunny wants - Sunny gets! (57)

Todd Pettengill performed poorly in this segment.

The performance of Faarooq Asad was good.

- Hunter Hearst-Helmsley def. Rob Van Dam in 13:13 by pinfall with a Pedigree. (57)

Van Dam, with his ribs taped up, put an extremely valiant effort forth - just a mere 24hrs following Vader's vicious assault on Shotgun. JR mentioned on multiple occasions that he was indeed competing against doctor's orders tonight. Rob really had the crowd behind him, especially when he managed to overcome a brass knuckle shot, while the official was inadvertently knocked out, after Helmsley ducked a spinning heel kick.

The end came when Van Dam rallied and had things well in-hand, but as he went for his, as Ross pointed out: he now refers to as the Five-Star Frog Splash - Triple H moved! Laying in wait, as his grimacing opponent somehow pulled himself up - he immediately struck with a gut-kick, a Pedigree, and a smart cover with the leg hooked. Naturally, 'The King' is ecstatic, as 'The Connecticut Blue Blood' advances.

Hunter Hearst-Helmsley advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Post-Match: Hunter jaws off with Mark Henry in the aisleway, as he's slapping hands and signing autographs. Eventually, 'The Worlds Strongest Man' makes his way to the announcer's booth, where he warmly greets Vince and JR, before warning Lawler that he and The Honky Tonk Man are gonna pay for what they did to his friend Jake 'The Snake'! (45)

Boiler Room: Todd Pettengill's been in search of-and has now found 'The Deranged' Mankind, who's cradled down on the floor, rocking back and forth. Todd reluctantly gets a word with him, to where he begins by speaking of this atmosphere being his home sweet home, before promising a night full of surprises - and addressing his mortal enemy...

"So DEADMAN! It'd be in your best interest NOT to enter MY realm tonight, because if you do, consider this fair warning: outside these four walls awaits you a fate WORSE THAN DEATH! Have a nice day!" (66)

Up next, we've got the first ever Bikini Beach Blast Off, hosted by 'The King' himself, who reveals himself in a Vinny Testaverde; Baltimore Ravens jersey and obliterates the city of Cleveland! He follows up with his his usual trolling of Jake Roberts for a few moments, then finally gets to our contestants.

Sable wins in a landslide, leaving Marlena looking her usual emotionless self, while Sunny starts stomping and protesting! She grabs Lawler's mic, and claims she's gonna be the only one here walking out carrying some gold tonight - unlike these two empty-handed and empty-headed tramps! Sable looks stone-faced angry, as Sunny runs off. (47)

The performance of Jerry Lawler was good.
Sable came across well.
The performance of Sunny was fantastic.

Backstage: Kevin Kelly gets a pre-match word with 'Wild Man' Marc Mero, who's consoling Sable - reminding her that SHE just won because she is the most gorgeous woman on god's green earth.  Kevin shows, and recaps Mankind freakishly stalking up on Sable, calling her "Mommy" - and 'The Wild Man' cuts him right off!

"Ya know Kev, I don't know about that piece of human garbage Mankind, but I'll deal with him whenever he crawls back out from the gutter and shows his face! Tonight, it's all about Goldust, the steel cage, and MY opportunity to become WWF Champion - so it's time to PUT UP or SHUT UP! Goldust, tonight, you my friend, are gonna be a falling star... and that's all I got to say." (59)

- Marc Mero def. Goldust in a Steel Cage Match in 18:14 when Mero escaped the cage, following botched interference by Mankind and an assist from Sable. (72)

Emotions ran high in this one, as it was a back and forth battle, all the way to the bitter end. About three quarters of the way through, Mero threw Goldust flying into the big blue cage - busting him wide open, sending Marlena into a frenzy on the outside!

'The Bizarre One' hit a low-blow, regaining control for a few minutes, with a near-shot escaping through the door - before putting 'The Wild Man' down and out with The Curtain Call! He then proceeded however, to make the crucial mistake of gloating for Sable, to which Vince shouts about how the Goldust/Marlena obsession with Sable is sick! 'The King' fires back with stating that he, on the contrary, happens to totally get it!

From there, he heads towards the cage and begins climbing! Mero starts to show small signs of life, while JR yells about how the golden one just may be making another cardinal mistake, which does turn out to ring true - when Marc catches up to him, as he's rubbing himself upwards atop the cage!

The two exchange blows for a couple moments, as the Gund Arena erupts! The crowd gets their way - when 'The Wild Man' tosses Goldust all the way down to the canvas! But instead of simply climbing down, it's now Mero who takes his time and appears to be setting up for The Wild Thing from the top of the cage - leaving our announcing team going berserk!

Out of seemingly nowhere, however, MANKIND is climbing the cage from the outside and coming straight for 'The Wild Man'!  Sable's horrific screams catch her man's attention - as he turns around at the last second, catches him coming - and is now duking it out with "this deranged sicko madman", as Ross claims. In the midst of all this mayhem, Goldust now begins to recover, and slowly crawls towards the door, which the refs on the outside swing open! He reaches forth, just as Mero now hurls Mankind off the top of the cage, sending him crashing down to the mat! This is wild!

With Marc's crimson-faced opponent just about to escape, his wife Sable comes charging around the corner, bulldozes/cross-checks Marlena to the ground, and smashes the cage door right into Goldust's head, causing him to cry out in agony - and allowing her man enough time to climb down from above, and leap both feet to the ground!

Marc Mero earns a shot at the WWF World Heavyweight Championship tomorrow night on RAW!

Goldust advances to the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Live Feed: Our announce team gets a word with our special guest ref for tonight's colossal main event, Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, who promises to call things right down the middle and also confirms that he's officially back here in the World Wrestling Federation as a full-time competitor - and warns the winner that 'The Excellence Of Execution' still has his World Title rematch clause lingering.

Vince then says he'd be remiss if he didn't mention both the words and potential physical threats from one 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin...

"You know Vince, if there's one thing I'm personally growing sick and tired of around here, it's that no good stinkin' hyena running his mouth - about Austin 3:16 this, opening a can of whip ass that, or whatever the hell else. STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN! IF YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME, WHY DON'T YOU CUT THE TRASH TALK FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE AND COME DO SOMETHIN' ABOUT IT!" (69)

Backstage: Mr. Perfect gets a pre-match word with the no-nonsense team of Chris Candido and Justin Credible, who seem like they're all business this evening. Chris adds that as glorious as winning the belts will be for them, it's gonna be even more glorious for him personally, taking them away from Tammy. (46)

- The Smokin' Gunns def. The Godwinns, Chris Candido and Justin Credible, and The New Rockers in 15:19. The order of elimination was The Godwinns (by The New Rockers), The New Rockers (by Candido and Credible), Candido and Credible (by the Smokin' Gunns), when Sunny ran in and attacked Billy - causing an intentional DQ! Justin Credible was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. (49)

After a few moments of wild tags and fast-action, we had our first elimination, when Leif Cassidy hoisted up Phinneas in impressive fashion, and drove him down to the canvas head-first with a move JR says Mr. Cassidy refers to as 'The Snow Plow' - and got the easy three count. Our next one came when Candido had the official tied up, with Jannetty hanging through the middle rope - Justin Credible grabbed a kendo stick from under the ring and LEVELED him, essentially cracking it in half! Another easy three count, this time for Chris. Ross emphasizes that ever since these two stopped being an infomercial guru and a coloring book hero, they sure mean business!

Finally, when everything calmed down after The New Rockers elimination, Billy reluctantly got in the ring to square off with Candido - but before they lock up, Sunny slides into the ring, standing between the two of them. She blows a kiss to Chris, while walking over to Gunn... and smacking him in his face repeatedly until the referee calls for the bell! After a moment or so of confusion, once the decision is officially announced - The Gunns smile, and Sunny jumps directly into Billy's arms, leaving her ex-boyfriend and his partner title-less, after the cheap ruse she just pulled!

The Smokin' Gunns make defense number 2 of their WWF World Tag Team Titles.

Post-Match: Candido and Credible, however, immediately go for the Gunns and begin taking it to them -- eventually laying them out with Spike Piledrivers onto a chair!  Then, in a true shock moment, they take Sunny by the hair over to the corner, with Chris climbing atop - Justin helps set her up, as Candido hits a TOP-ROPE POWERBOMB on Sunny! While there are some boos, most seem to be cheering, as Ross starts yelling about how that damn jezebel had it long coming! Lawler's crying for the heavens, praying that she's ok, and even McMahon begins to question if Chris has gone too far! (50)

Backstage: Savio's jumped 'Razor' and is putting the boots to him! 'Diesel' quickly charges over runs him off, as Vince seems happy, claiming Vega's finally got a small piece of vengeance on these two wannabe goons! (46)

BOILER ROOM BRAWL

- Mankind def. The Undertaker in a Boiler Room Brawl in 29:46, retrieving the urn - after Paul Bearer turned on The Undertaker! (75)

In a one-of-a-kind, most unique encounter, the cameras are following The Undertaker through the boiler room, who eventually finds his foe and they immediately begin to proceed to beat the ever-living daylights out of each other, through the massive Gund Arena boiler-room area with steel pipes, boots to the face and fists/thrusts of fury! Mankind bites The Undertaker's head at one point, as blood starts to slightly drip a little, down the right side of his head.

The battle wages on through the backstage area, with other superstars, such as Crush, Faarooq and Brian Pillman cheering them on, as they keep rolling right on through some concession stands, and even on-through the wild Cleveland crowd - leading to Paul Bearer, who's awaiting in the ring with the urn. Another highlight was 'The Deadman' chokeslamming The 'Deranged' One through a table, backstage!

McMahon reminds us that the idea here is to retrieve the urn from Paul Bearer, whilst 'The King' asks if that's Paul's face or did his butt grow a nose? Mankind has a clear advantage, as he's choking out The Undertaker with a microphone wire outside the ring. Paul looks terrified, as Ross states that no matter how mortified Mr. Bearer may be, it appears as if this sick freak - who's now screaming like a madman and ripping his own hair out, may just be approaching soon. He then removes the concrete mats and hits a falling piledriver, leaving 'The Man From The Darkside' flatlined!

As Mankind attempts to make his way into the ring, The Undertaker sits up and grabs him by the leg, forcing his way up to the ring apron as well! He hits a hard body-shot, and slingshots his opponent backwards - and straight down to the exposed concrete floor! He then crawls slowly into the ring, as Paul seems extremely relieved to say the least. However, right when he finally gets close enough, on his knees and extends his arms, his long-time manager TURNS HIS BACK !

A beaten down Undertaker tries to comprehend what's happening here, as Mankind applies the Mandible Claw from behind! After fighting for two straight minutes, he puts 'The Deadman' down once again, this time with Paul Bearer laughing! This crowd cannot believe what they're seeing, but erupt loudly as 'The Demon Of Death Valley' rises up once again! This time though, he does so in a more weakened state, and begins crawling towards his manager once again. Mankind delivers a few boots to his head along the way, but a relentless Undertaker finally gets his grips on him in the corner, with Bearer hoisting the urn up high -- and crashing the golden-steel device down to his skull, busting his now former client open even more! He then hands it to Mankind, as the eerie piano outro is heard, with Howard Finkel making the official announcement. Vince calls him a fat, lowlife sicko, as he and his new client leave, victorious, and laughing with the urn, while Ross reminds us of Mankind's haunting prophecy - "a fate worse than death!"

1092756054_BoilerRoomBrawl.jpg.f5e8133df77889d294d49f40e6018090.jpg

Following their exit, with 'The Deadman' still appearing to be actually dead in the ring, some church-like operatic music is heard, the lights dimming to nearly full black with a glimpse of purple - a swarm of hooded druids come down to ringside and hoist his body high above, carrying him away, as the aura of shock and sadness could be felt throughout a stunned-silent Gund arena.

Mankind and The Undertaker have great chemistry and it showed in their performances.
The Undertaker looked excellent out there.
Mankind looked good out there.

Backstage: Dok gets a pre-match word with 'The Mastodon' and his loud-mouth manager. A wound up James E. shouts all about how last month at International Incident, Vader pinned your WWF Champion fair and square and he's been beating him up ever since! And now there's only one thing left to do, in just a few short minutes, and that's capture and welcome the World Wrestling Federation Championship to it's brand new coveted home - RIGHT HERE IN CAMP CORNETTE! - Shawn Michaels def. Vader in 14:39 with Sweet Chin Music, followed by a fast-counted pinfall via special guest ref: Bret 'Hitman' Hart. (80)

A classic David Vs. Goliath encounter here, with the champion using his speed and agility to his advantage early on, but then sent the challenger into the ropes reeling, and got caught in the powerbomb position whilst attempting a leap-frog - and countered it into a FrankenSteiner, as the crowd goes crazy! Even 'The Hitman' looks quite impressed with this amazing feat!

Vader heads outside to regroup, making the crucial mistake of turning his back momentarily, as Shawn comes running and flying over the top with a cross body! JR refers to Shawn's style and aggressiveness so far as poetry in-motion, stating that NO ONE saw this coming, with 'The Mastodon' unable to unleash any offense whatsoever thus far! He proceeds to hit another couple high-flying moves, before getting a tad bit greedy, going for another FrankenSteiner - and getting caught with a PowerBomb on the floor!

1252894995_ShawnVs.Vader.thumb.jpg.322f0f527a5d9d121563a092bd2abc76.jpg

With the tide now turning big time, Vader slowed the tempo down and really took control, smashing the champ around with his stiff, hard-hitting style. He even got a few near-falls, to which he got in the face of Bret, yelling for him to do his job correctly. Hart, as expected, shows no signs of backing down, and gets right back in Vader's face when he's choking, pulling hair, and relentlessly blasting 'The Heart Break Kid' with repeated fists and forearms to his head in the corner! He then drills the champion with another PowerBomb, this time in the middle of the ring, and makes the cover - but picks him up by the hair at the count of two, smirking at 'The Hitman' and looking to inflict more punishment! Jose goes nuts on the outside, as Bret's getting visually frustrated as well.

Jerry's loving it, as McMahon goes on about how ridiculous this outright assault is, and how Vader just needs to stop, put Shawn Michaels away already, and take the damned title! From his corner, James E. is calling for The Vader Bomb - to which his man DELIVERS! With Michaels unconscious, Hart once again counts to two - but this time, HE stops, and Vader wastes no time going in on the attack! He backs 'The Hitman' into a corner and goes in hard with some vicious body-shots and forearms to the head! Ross calls this disgusting, and yells about how this wretched bastard needs to be disqualified!

On the outside, Cornette is going absolutely ballistic upon realizing he might not walk outta Cleveland with the WWF Championship, but Lothario spins James E. around from behind and decks him right in the kisser! This draws the big man over, as he's screaming and threatening Jose from over the top rope! 'The Mastodon' however, kept his attention turned away for just a moment too long, turning around into some Sweet Chin Music! Michaels, who was just barely able to pull himself up to his feet using the ropes, falls on top - and an extremely fast-count from Bret, with Vader kicking out just at the three count, secures the victory for the World Wrestling Federation Champion!

Shawn Michaels makes defense number 8 of his WWF World Heavyweight Title.

Post-Match: 'The Hitman' and 'The Mastodon' are quick to start exchanging blows once again, when suddenly, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin comes charging down, swings Hart around, and drops him with a Stone Cold Stunner! Vince carries on about how Bret is out, Lawler complains about Vader being screwed by our detestable referee, and JR adds that you don't gotta like 'Stone Cold', but everyone out there has damn well got to respect the fact that he's a man of his word; he said he was gonna get Bret Hart tonight - and he did! With the bell continuously ringing, Vader and Austin continue to stomp away at Michaels and Hart, as an influx of officials and security arrive on the scene to try and break it all up, when McMahon informs us he's got some breaking news, something’s gone down in the back... (71)

Moments Ago: Vince says he's gotten word that security footage in the arena parking garage caught something MAJOR just a mere moments ago. We cut to President Monsoon, who was on his way out, had just gotten word that Vader laid his hands on our special guest referee. As he began power-walking back - he gets RUN OVER BY A LIMO, that abruptly speeds away! We go off the air with our announcing trio in disbelief, and McMahon shouting that we're outta time, but don't forget to tune into the USA Network tomorrow night for Monday Night RAW - as we at the World Wrestling Federation will do our damndest to get to the bottom of this horrifically heinous act! Overall: 77.
Notes: We gained popularity in 10 regions. The feedback was excellent, we really struck gold with this show. Post-show, we also praised Owen Hart for his great performance, told Shawn Michaels he was awesome, and gave Rob Van Dam some encouragement. All three were pleased.

* It took me a while, yes, as I accidentally deleted most of my original write out, but it's finally here! Hope you all enjoyed - all the follow-ups, plus your Raw preview coming soon. 😜 *

August 1996 - Week Four

Live from the Welsh-Ryan Arena, in Evanston, Illinois!

- Fresh off the heels of the wildest SummerSlam in World Wrestling Federation history, the great Gorilla Monsoon is awake and functioning in a local Cleveland hospital following last night's vile hit and run, and has chosen an interim WWF President whilst he's on the road to a full recovery!
