Let's Play TEW 2020 - CornellVerse USA

Recommended Posts

Hello, welcome. I've finally decided to do another let's play/dynasty and of course I'm starting off small to work my way back in. I plan to run USPW, SWF, TCW, CZCW, QAW, IPW, MAW and NYCW and build up the CornellVerse IN MAH IMAGE!

The plan, currently, is to have a GDS forum dynasty run concurrently with a Discord dynasty (but with the same information so you really don't need to follow both). Also I mentioned let's play and I do mean that in the old school LPArchive type definition of the word. I will be taking the feedback, advise and booking ideas and trying to incorporate them into the writing in some way. So please, backseat game! I look forward to the madness we will create together!

For those who don’t know me I am Astil. I’ve also been known as 2k or letsplaytew. I generally book complete bonkers nonsense on YouTube and if you know me from there, hello. This will be nothing like that. I’m going to be trying to stay in character with my booking in this save, trying to keep to the characters booking style. Let’s start with creating the game and establishing our user characters.

unknown.png?width=791&height=440

Our first user character is Rich Money, who will run USPW. He’s talented, popular and has clout inside the USPW front office. That said USPW is probably the company I am going to represent as a booking committee the most, so not every idea will be from Money. I went with Ideas Man template as USPW can eat a negotiating penalty with the cash they print, and Money seems like a silver tongued creative type. For a booking committee I have collected a few people with establish booking reputation to be recurring characters in my write ups. This includes Alicia Strong (65), Corporal Doom (58), The Force (50) and most surprisingly Anthony Trask (40). I did not include Robbie Sanchez because his write up involves him getting essentially canned.

For all bookers I am using the below rules. The strict storyline is very, very concerning as I’ve yet to figure it out, and usually play with it off. I also promise I will forget pre-booking at least once and eat an attendance penalty. However I do think when trying to stick to the spirit of these companies pre-booking and strict storylines do force you in a way to book a certain way.

unknown.png?width=480&height=553

From there we move on to our ‘Player 2’ SWF. I will be using Jerry Eisen and be playing as owner instead of booker. In my head the Eisen’s tightened up control of the SWF in the wake of Richard getting got. My SWF is currently being run by Jerry, Eric and Emma Chase. I chose the steady hand architype because it’s boring and so is Jerry. Sorry Jerry.

unknown.png?width=791&height=442

he last of our national three is TCW. TCW has seen some huge changes, with corporate owner BriCo moving them to Texas and the company product moving more towards brawls. We will be playing as Brent Hill, the booker, so we get owner goals for TCW. I see Brent Hill as a bit more of a loner, so I don’t think he has a committee however I do think Hill has more of an open door policy. For that reason I gave Brent the Industry Veteran.

unknown.png?width=791&height=445

Forth is Fox Mask and the Zone. As the Coastal Zone (and the rest of the companies) are smaller, they run less shows. At least until WrestleWorld comes along in March. That means I want to ensure that I give each of these bookers a uniqueness. I do think the CotT establishes a pipeline of sorts, with young workers starting at MAW, then moving west, and older workers ending up at NYCW. I think embracing that pipeline a bit more is something I would like to do. That leaves CZCW as the location for workers in there prime. They are a workrate company, and are run by a workrate guy.

unknown.png?width=791&height=447

It is the establishment of what CZCW is that led me to realize what IPW must be in order to be unique. Yet another workrate company would be bad, but an Indy entertainment company? Especially a dark hardcore company of WrestleWorld? Yeah that will work.

Because I want the flexibility to change the product if need be, I will be playing as the owner Gil Thomas. I chose the Hustler template, as it makes sense given Gil’s participation in wool war.

unknown.png?width=791&height=444

Meanwhile in MAW, I want to give a chance for those unemployed and young around the CVerse, especially regens and new gens. I want the chance to build people up from nothing in MAW and then graduate them to IPW or CZCW. I gave Sam Keith the Creative Leader template, as it seems like most new additions to MAW are his idea, and even some TCW ideas.

unknown.png?width=791&height=441

For NYCW we see our first deviation from the default database. I will not be playing as Larry Vessey, but his younger brother Bryan. With Bryan Vessey I can still run NYCW as the pseudo-retirement home but also do some pretty fun stuff creatively. I’m giving Vessey a chaotic genius personality ….because it seems fun I guess.

unknown.png?width=791&height=443

Finally there is QAW. QAW will have another deviation, because I don’t want to play as Boss Man and don’t feel like I could do Farrah Hesketh justice. So we will be running QAW as Joanne Rodriguez and trying to build the company into a major league for women.

unknown.png?width=791&height=445

Whew that’s all eight. So next time I will go over my plans for the companies and start like…playing the game.

This idea intrigues me, although I had a slightly difficult time trying to interpret your description of the idea. But I love to book, so I’m looking forward to contributing to this project.

Thanks! Feel free to ask about anything that is muddy.

Will definitely be following along. I'm familiar with your stuff from YouTube so am definitely interested in seeing how this plays out and with a different style.

Welcome aboard. I say it should be tamer, but without Swarley to reel me in who knows.

So, USPW. The antagonist of the CornellVerse US scene. We are booking as Rich Money, who favors big bodied workers and booking one of the most simplistic products in the game. No complex angles. No controversial angles, gimmicks, etc. Shorter matches. Really just wrestling for dummies.

unknown.png

unknown.png

Usually when starting a game I look to the starting storylines and roster as a guide and try to figure out where the booking was going. We start off failing the Strict Storyline requirements, which is a rough start. The hottest storyline going is Hawkeye vs The Destroyer which has our figurehead going against a hated heel. This is not the world title feud however, as that is the only other feud over the threshold. The creatively named Money vs Wolf is a feud I have never been able to make interesting. Running Wolf is just not on Money’s level

unknown.png

unknown.png

The next two hottest storylines are The Triumvirate Takeover and Bulldozer vs Shaffer. The Takeover storyline is easy enough to heat up, with three extremely talented women in the storyline and plenty of ways to proceed as it’s really just a feud focused on Alicia Strong’s stable. Dozer and Shaffer is the feud I have the most fun booking, but I struggle to get it above the 70 heat level.

unknown.png

unknown.png

Rounding out the starting storylines you have a women’s feud with two newcomers, a feud between a stable and the National title holder and an old tag team vs young tag team feud. None of these have a potential to develop over the 70 heat threshold in my opinion.

unknown.png

unknown.png

unknown.png

That leaves Enygma, Joss Thompson, Casey Valentine, D.C. Rayne, Eddie Howard, Tag Champions Jett and Moor, Women’s champion Jamie Quinn, James Justice, Rick Law, The Force and Tiffany Jade without a storyline. I know I want to have a storyline for at least Joss, the Tag Champs and Quinn. I would love to give a quick storyline to Missy Masterson, but I think I’ll have her run a ‘try-out’ match first. As for the tag champs…our tag division is garbage and I really don’t think USPW or Rich Money care about the division. Probably will give a shot to Atlas and Jumbo without a storyline. Which just leaves Joss.

unknown.png

Joss is a worker I love to push in USPW. He has higher level Psychology and Brawling, and an astounding 92 Star Quality. To me he is the modern Rip Chord in term of workers, who I always figured to be a Jake Roberts-ish derivative. I want Joss at or near the top going forward, and his first feud should not only help with that but also be our third 70 plus heat storyline.

Enygma is the only other ‘star’ without a storyline, and … well … Enygma sucks. Old, mid-level talent and not even a big boy. No I am going to go with an actual Rip Chord trainee Casey Valentine.

unknown.png

With storylines and rosters reviewed I need to plan out my first PPV and TV show. Usually I will do these ‘in character’ as Money and the booking team, but for now I am going to remain in LP mode.

unknown.png

unknown.png

For the TV show the cut off match is Nicky Champion and Bulldozer Brandon Smith vs Steve Frehley and Trent Shaffer. On that subject is Shah-fir like Marina or Shae-fur like Peter. I always say Shae-fur but I’m not smart with pronunciation so feel free to correct. As for matches I think 3 planned is a pretty decent jump off point.

For the PPV a lot is in flux. No National title match, no tag, no womens. I want to see how some people perform. As for the World Title…yes I am a coward. I want to insure that main event does well, and adding Nicky will do just that.

That’s all for now. Next USPW write up will be the show in screenshots. Before that we move on to SWF though.

Wow one promotions shows is a conundrum enough to book for me, also just checked and I supscribe to your YouTube channel

Thanks! I hope my brain doesn't melt.

hey man, saw something on YT for sure ... good luck with this, it's a tremendous amount of booking lol

It is but also a tremendous amount of fun!

First a confession. I’ve been sucked into OOTP 23. Don’t send help. I won’t be out for a while lol.

unknown.png?width=720&height=235

Doesn’t mean I wont be continuing this though, let’s jump into SWF! First, lets look at our User Character and owner Jerry Eisen:

unknown.png

Combine that with Eric Eisen’s booking and you get an interesting combination (turns out Emma Chase has 0 booking skill and no bias so I guess it’s just the Eisens in charge).

unknown.png

Neither have any real ‘friends’ in or out of the locker home so no reason to push certain people over others.

unknown.png?width=720&height=275

Sports Entertainment product is… interesting. No deathmatches, dangerous set ups, etc etc and a strong emphasis on storylines. All scripted is interesting given Eric’s bias to ring generals. I may remove that.

Whereas USPW only needed 3 hot storylines SWF requires 5. Sam requirement of 2 storylines a show. That’s fairly difficult in my opinion but I left that on to push myself to book more like sports entertainment. Let’s see how many hot storylines SWF has to start.

unknown.png?width=720&height=119

unknown.png?width=720&height=117

unknown.png?width=720&height=120

Three. That’s… not good. Also the write ups on SWF’s storylines leave a bit to be desired. Rocky vs Scythe is going to be right up my alley with spooky stuff and lights out attacks and all my favorite toys. Rogue playing both sides in a Valiant/Remo feud is interesting to a degree, but I’ve honestly not got much love for Val or Rogue as top level guys. Finally you got Lau in a squash feud over the aging James.

unknown.png?width=720&height=118

Davids vs Brown is the only conceivable storyline that could get hot in one show, and even that is unlikely. I do like both talents though so expect me to try like heck to get this over.

unknown.png?width=720&height=115

unknown.png?width=720&height=119

To round it out you have the tag team feud and another young vs old feud.

That’s rough to start. We need two, maybe three hot storylines added to this list to ensure we don’t get penalized. Available are Randy Unleashed and The Crippler for stars and for Well Known there are Angry Gilmore, Atom Smasher, Bear Bekowski, Hollywood Brett Starr, Huey Cannonball, Jefferson Stardust, Joey Morgan, John Greed, Mainstream Hernandez, Marshall Dillon, Primus Allen, Ranger and ZWB. A lot of fun characters there, hopefully enough talent to create some hot stories.

unknown.png?width=720&height=118

First let’s set up a storyline for Atom Smasher. I want to set up The Crippler as a mastermind behind a lot of the heels in SWF, and having him start with being the reason Smasher turned is a good spark. Cowboys being the tag team to stop them should make for some fun brawls too.

unknown.png?width=720&height=120

Another storyline that could be fun, I want to start pushing Bear up the card if possible. No better place to start a push than against super solid hand Joey Morgan.

unknown.png?width=720&height=123

Lastly, a Starr vs Gilmore storyline. Lazy vs high strung. Young second gen vs grizzled vet. I can get mileage out of this for sure, much more than the two default ‘old vs young’ stories.

Oh what’s this?

unknown.png?width=720&height=179

Yeah lets fix that red.

unknown.png?width=360&height=270

Our PPV is in two weeks, so a bit of imagining needs to take place as the builds would have surely already started. Here is my current pre-booking.

unknown.png?width=720&height=249

As for the weekly show, I only pre booked 3, but that should be enough, no?

unknown.png?width=720&height=242

And that’s SWF for now. Going to need a lot of interlocking storylines as I go, so any thoughts on that please let me know. Next time is TCW!

Looking forward to what you do with QAW. Especially since I'm having trouble getting how to properly book Modesty. They put her in what I assume should be a somewhat important storyline but she's dragged down every match and angle I've put her in.

Having a little more luck booking her in brawls but she doesn't really have the stamina for those.

I have ideas, but she needs her overness built to start.

Good setup for SWF, I like to start off with Starr vs Gilmore.

Looking forward to TCW

It makes sense, and thank you!

TCW went from my absolute favorite of the big 3 to my least favorite to play. I think it’s 100% down to not understanding how to book the product. Wrestling is treated as ‘real’ but with larger than life characters is so vague, and it says it’s southern style. I guess I just didn’t watch much leads into those Terry Funk brawls so I don’t really understand how it works. Enough complaining though, here is the product.

unknown.png?width=779&height=310

I think the only real way I will be able to book TCW close to the source and not pull my hair out is to treat them like a brawl based AEW. Which makes gimmicks like the King of Kings even more confusing.

unknown.png?width=779&height=320

It starts a big push in DECEMBER for a match in MAY…despite having a legendary event in January the month after. I hate it. TCW also has three gimmick PPVs. Along with the King of Kings tournament there are these two.

unknown.png?width=779&height=201

unknown.png?width=779&height=193

I don’t hate gimmick PPVs but they don’t seem Southern Wrasslin they seem more 90s WWF.

All that said, we are Brent Hill and he doesn’t seem the type to change up a company. Indeed he probably is not even empowered to do so by BriCo. TCW may want to be a southern wrasslin company but I suspect BriCo wants more of a Rock and Wrestling / New Generation WWF thing.

Either way that is more long term than I care to think at the moment.

unknown.png?width=779&height=41

Ohhhhhhhh my gooooodness yes. A company that is well situated in terms of storylines. What a relief.

The top storyline is Andrews/Wolf, and despite Wolf winning the tournament it shouldn’t ‘come to a head’ until May. I hate it. I’ll be booking Wolf vs Andrews at Malice in Wonderland.

unknown.png?width=779&height=134

This next story is presented as a vehicle for Chord to get to the top, but I think it has potential to be way more. This may be a bit of a tangent but I think a bit of the disconnect I have with Jay Chord in TCW as it’s currently constructed is the top of the roster is clearly built for a workrate company, but they are owned by a toy company. They should be led by larger than life highly marketable workers… The Ace. Alpha Wolf. Rock God. Jay Chord doesn’t really have that marketable character. Kids don’t buy boring looking guys toys. Chord needs a character, something that will sell action figures (even if only so kids can have Andrews or He-Man or Goku beat him up).

Long story short, this is not just a push Chord vehicle, it’s a chance for me to give Jay Chord an actual character besides ‘my dad wrestled good before you were born’.

unknown.png?width=779&height=133

Sinner Society? Mighty Meaty? Now we’re talking! I can already see those figures flying off shelves. This will also regularly fill the wild brawl requirement at PPVs.

unknown.png?width=779&height=133

A TV only feud, Greg Gauge falls into the same issue as Chord, but much more severe. Luckily he’s not near the top of the card so we have time to figure out who he is in the grand scheme of things. Benny Benson is a stoner in a company run by a toy maker. He’s losing.

unknown.png?width=779&height=129

All the stories are hot! Let’s go! As for this actual story, Devine Fortune and Elite both need to prove something to me to factor into our tag division moving forward.

unknown.png?width=779&height=125

Speaking of our tag division…it could use some help:

unknown.png

So this will be the first time I put out a decision and end mid-post. Next time I’ll wrap up TCW’s setup and set up CZCW too.

Who should TCW hire to join the tag division?

Yes, that tag divisions is one that definitely needs a rebuild. Rich and Famous are more suited to USPW or SWF, but could work in TCW with a rebrand. The Night Terrors would make a jobber heel team, or you could always go for The American Cobras as long as you're prepared to deal with the trouble that they'll bring with them.

If you've got no plans for Marc Speed you could bring in Al Coleman to reform The Shoot Club.

I have ideas, but she needs her overness built to start.

That's not too dificult. It's her skills that seem to be stinking up my ring. People with similar overness and experience are constantly putting out matches about ten points higher give or take.

I eventually gave up and capped their feud with her losing to Little Miss Perfect having agreed to join her on the tag team circuit if she lost. After a slow heel turn under LMP's influence I'm hoping getting her in some tag matches will get more skill rubbing off on her.

Everyone else is doing pretty good for me, it just her where the game is insisting she's the next big thing but what I'm seeing her do doesn't back it up.

Brent Hill walked into his office and turned on the light. The florescent bulbs flickered for a moment, then flooded the darkness. His desk still had notes and empty cups from last Friday’s brainstorming session. He took a sip of his coffee and looked around.

The red eye he took had left him exhausted, but such is the responsibility of head booker. Or as BriCo called him ‘Lead Creative Liaison’. Hill hated that meaningless title, but without BriCo there would be no TCW anymore, or a head booker. Thoughts like that make you deal with the corporate nonsense.

There wasn’t any last minute booking so the meeting last week was mostly talent discovery. The white board behind his desk had nine names scrawled on it.

Jake Idol

Jackpot Jordan

Marv Statler

Dean Waldorf

Babau

Moroi

Marvel Malloy

Storm Spillane

Al Coleman

Hill had left the list to think about over the weekend, but with the Pay Per View he hadn’t had time to do any more research. He logged into his PC and opened the DVD rip folder for CZCW.

Coleman and Speed had some real chemistry back in the day. He sat and watched Hardcore Halloween 10’s tag match between Rich and Famous and Shoot Club. Jake Idol was far skinnier back then, having more of a superstar look now-a-days. Coleman and Speed reminded Hill of himself and Anderson. All three were yes.

Statler and Waldorf were based in Japan, and honestly were unknowns to TCW’s audience. Malloy and Spillane were fantastic wrestlers, he had caught a few of the COTT tag defenses the duo had put together and he was impressed. They would be a hard sell to BriCo though, as the company thought Brent had already hired enough ‘unmarketable talents’. Night Terrors on the other hand. Maybe paired with Peak? That was an easy sell.

He sent out the emails with BriCo approved contract offers to Coleman, Idol, Jordan, Babau and Moroi. Afterward he picked up his cell and dialed Cliff Anderson. After the pleasantries, he broke the news.

“We’re going to be offering to Al,”

“Yeah, no problem, I get it,”

“Alright just wanted to let you know.”

“Yeah, no problem, thanks.”

.:.

Cliff Anderson stared at the screen for a solid minute before dialing Fox Mask.

“Mark? Yeah we have a problem,”

.:.

Tag Teams: Going Coastal is a name I don't see thrown around much, but Frankie Boy-Fernandez can be a legit star and California Love Machine can hold up his end of the bargain. The Wild Cats are also really good and have brought in ratings for me. Would also love to see Acid II & Stuntman in TCW, think they're good fits.
