  • Singles Match: In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Joshua Taylor defeated Flying Jimmy Foxx (7:39) with the Butterfly Lock. [71] After that match, Taylor hyped up his title match at Total Mayhem, saying he wouldn't just beat both Andrews and The One Man Army - he would brutalise them. He promised that, after Total Mayhem, the Revolt would hold its quest for all the gold in TCW. [87]

  • Meanwhile, Dazzling Dave Diamond gave a promo backstage against Roderick Remus, disparaging him for last week's attack. Triple D said that if Remus wanted a spot on the Total Mayhem card, he needed to earn it the old fashioned way - not through sneak attacks. [73]

  • Singles Match: In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Freddy Huggins defeated Benny Benson (5:38) with the Huggins Kiss. This was an extended squash, as Huggins clearly looked motivated by the criticism levelled at him last week and therefore brought some absolute fire. Sammy Bach was on commentary and was clearly impressed. [63] The two had another confrontation post-match - this was also a great segment, although not as electric as last week. [85]

  • Meanwhile, the new TCW World Tag Team Champions, Marc Speed & Matt Hocking, bragged following their title win last week. They said that although tonight's main event against Aaron Andrews & The One Man Army was a non-title match, they would show that they are the best tag team in the world. [59]

  • Tag Team Match: In a decent match, Chris Flynn & Greg Gauge defeated Elliot Thomas & Magnum Kobe (12:10) with the Flynn Lock from Flynn to Thomas. The finish came after Flynn used nefarious means to lock Thomas in the Flynn Lock. [70] Unsurprisingly, after the bout, the tension between the four title tournament competitors boiled over and ended up with a pull-apart brawl. [54]

  • Meanwhile, Aaron Andrews & The One Man Army gave a promo backstage. They spoke of their respect for each other and made clear that, although they were rivals at Total Mayhem, tonight they would be on the same page. [71]

  • Trios Match: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but subpar wrestling, Hazard Inc. (Troy Tornado, Stink & Grunt) defeated Edd Stone & The Mad Men (Mad Man Boone & Mad Man Maverick) (6:49) with the Star Maker from Tornado to Boone. The finish came as Jay Chord interfered to attack Boone and Stone. [54]

  • Meanwhile, a four-way ladder match was announced for Total Mayhem, pitting the TCW World Tag Team Champions Revolt against The Behemoths, Devine Fortune & The American Cobras! After the announcement, the three challenger teams met backstage and each spruiked their title credentials. [51]

  • Elsewhere, Eddie Peak had a backstage confrontation with Nick Booth & Floyd Goldworthy, the former Sinner Society members who returned last week to cost The Behemoths their tag team match. Booth was still wearing his leather jacket and sunglasses combination, while Goldworthy was taking the role of a sports agent. Peak promised revenge against Booth, and goaded the new face into a match at Total Mayhem - against the newest member of Sinner Society. Peak wouldn't divulge who the mystery opponent was, but promised he was bigger and badder than anything Booth or Goldworthy had seen. [48]

  • Trios Match: In a bout with great heat and decent wrestling, The Syndicate (Wolf Hawkins, Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond, T-Bone Bright & Tana the Mighty (11:39) with the Full Moon Rising from Hawkins to Tana. The finish came in tainted circumstances. [71] After the bout, Hawkins & The Elite gave an in-ring promo reminding the crowd of their brutal assault on Mighty Mo last week. [72]

  • Meanwhile, Jay Chord gave a promo backstage following his interference in the trios match earlier tonight. He said he was looking forward to "discombobulating" Edd Stone at Total Mayhem, and he would warm up for their Last Man Standing Match - with a Last Man Standing Match next week against Mad Man Maverick! [74]

  • Tag Team Match, Non-Title: In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Revolt (Marc Speed & Matt Hocking) defeated Aaron Andrews & The One Man Army (16:23) with a Lariat from Speed to One Man Army. The finish came after a miscommunication between Andrews and Army, who spent most of the match struggling to maintain their camaraderie. [66] After the bout, Andrews and Army began to bicker - but before that could explode, the pair were jumped by all four members of the Revolt, who stood tall as the show ended. [67]

Overall Rating: [75]

NEXT WEEK: Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado! Jay Chord vs. Mad Man Maverick in a Last Man Standing Match! The American Cobras & Devine Fortune vs. The Behemoths & Revolt! Roderick Remus vs. Clark Alexander! Nick Booth vs. Daigo Goya! And the TCW International Title Tournament Semi-Finals - Greg Gauge vs. Elliot Thomas and Chris Flynn vs. Magnum Kobe!

The Dirt Sheet Update - May 2020

Backstage gossip ahead of TCW Total Mayhem XXIV

With just over a week to go until the 24th instalment of TCW's marquee event, Total Mayhem, many backstage continue to be surprised about the choice of main event. While Aaron Andrews is backed to draw money whoever he wrestles (see below), the decision to award the main event slot to veterans "The One Man Army" Thom Barrowman and Joshua Taylor raised some eyebrows.

Few begrudge the opportunity given to Barrowman, who is a 24-year industry veteran and has continued to grow in popularity since famously splitting with long-time partner Doc Hammond in 2017. However, the continued focus on the latter (and his stable Revolt) belies the lukewarm from crowds to Taylor, who although a capable wrestler lacks the star power of Wolf Hawkins and ability to draw heat of Jay Chord and Freddy Huggins.

Elsewhere, the typically cordial TCW locker room is reportedly not totally without its issues:

  • Former TCW World Tag Team Champion Titan was reportedly very unhappy at the decision to book him and fellow Behemoth Killer Shark in a losing contest against The American Cobras on Total Wrestling - even if it was tainted by the turn of former Sinner Society members Nick Booth & Floyd Goldworthy. Many wonder whether the decision to award a title match to The Behemoths at Total Mayhem is partly a response to Titan's frustration.
  • Similarly, Roderick Remus was reportedly furious at his loss in the opening round of the TCW International Title Tournament against Japanese star (and new PGHW Glory Crown Champion - see below) Magnum Kobe. He's been described by some insiders as "petulant", with locker room respect for Magnum Kobe reportedly very high.

Additional matches announced for Total Mayhem - but one puzzle piece still outstanding

Despite the backstage heat on Roderick Remus, he has been awarded a singles match at Total Mayhem XXIV - against two-time former International Champion Dazzling Dave Diamond! Remus has been on a quest to earn a spot on the Total Mayhem card, and late last month attacked Triple D out of nowhere - seemingly trying to goad the veteran into a Total Mayhem worthy feud. While their rivalry hasn't exactly lit the place on fire, it was enough to earn PPV billing on the Jun. 6 card.

Meanwhile, TCW also announced a multi-man "mayhem" Battle Royal will take place on the show, with the winner earning a shot at the TCW World Heavyweight Championship. Not much is known yet about the competitors, but we understand it will take the form of a battle royal known to Japan where the only way to win is by pinfall or submission - sometimes with multiple competitors performing the pinfall. It seems to be a way to get as many lower card workers on the main show as possible.

While the Total Mayhem card appears to be taking shape, there are still question marks over two big stars - Wolf Hawkins and Mighty Mo, who have been engaged in a rivalry of late and don't appear to have locked down a match just yet. Maybe we will get answers on the final instalment of Total Wrestling...

Knee injury for veteran tag team specialist

39-year old Bart Biggins is facing at least a month on the sidelines, after suffering ligament damage to his right knee during the recent Rise Up! tapings in San Jose. Teaming with fellow veteran Benny Benson, Biggins landed awkwardly as he came from the top rope, and was forced to tag out and let Benson run the remainder of the match against PGHW young lions Daigo Goya & Matt Blackburn. Rumours are that the 21 year veteran will use his time on the sidelines to reinvent himself before returning, potentially with a changed gimmick.

Andrews leads merchandise rankings again

He might have been unsuccessful in last week's tag team main event, but Heavyweight Champion Aaron Andrews continues to lead the way as TCW's "Ace", again outselling his nearest rival by almost $200,000.

bumper month for the TCW World Heavyweight Champion Aaron Andrews, as he continues to outstrip all-comers in the merchandise rankings. While Sammy Bach continues to bring in money, the biggest riser was title contender The One Man Army, who almost doubled his earnings this month in merchandise. Former champion Wolf Hawkins' fortunes have plummeted in recent times, and it seems so too has The Syndicate leader's marketability.

The top ten merchandise sellers are as follows:

  1. Aaron Andrews - $272,436 (up from $265,192)
  2. Sammy Bach - $81,760 (up from $74,005)
  3. Mighty Mo - $38,402 (up from $35,702)
  4. The One Man Army - $19,011 (up from $10,716)
  5. Wolf Hawkins - $17,838 (down from $28,246)
  6. Jay Chord - $13,466 (up from $12,641)
  7. Edd Stone - $12,749 (up from $8,743)
  8. Tana the Mighty - $7,278 (not previously ranked)
  9. Dazzling Dave Diamond - $5,144 (up from $4,567)
  10. Human Arsenal - $4,564 (down from $5,376)

At the other end of the pile, Mexican star Extraordinario, Jr. appears to have sold about 10 key chains, taking in $14 for his single appearance in the International Title Tournament.

May 2020 - results summary!

As TCW edges closer to its biggest event of the year, there continues to be big results elsewhere in the wrestling world! Some highlights:

  • After nearly a year as champion, Rich Money's reign as USPW World Champion came to an end against now two-time champion Joss Thompson at USPW Declaration of Independence in Atlanta, GA. The main event stole the show, but there was great action elsewhere as Nicky Champion bested Steve Frehley in a clean result, while the women's division continues to grow in strength.
  • In Kentucky, SWF held its "Master of Puppets" show, which saw another successful defence by SWF World Heavyweight Champion Scythe, who beat Paul Huntingdon. The match of the night was Rocky Golden's win over Monty Trescade, closely followed by a barn burning tag team match between Remo & The Crippler and Brandon James & Valiant
  • In Japan, Yasunobu Masuno retained the BHOTWG World Championship against Yasuhiko Taira and Takayuki 2000Magnum Kobe won the PGHW Glory Crown for the first time against Seiji Jimbo; and Funakoshi retained the BCG World Title against "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii.

  • TCW International Title Tournament - Semi-Finals, Singles Match: In a bout that had good wrestling and decent reaction from the crowd, Greg Gauge defeated Elliot Thomas (9:11) with a Bulldog. The pair had great chemistry, but Gauge was clearly the star. [74] After the bout, Gauge promised to become a dual title holder at Total Mayhem. [72]

  • Meanwhile, Joshua Taylor gave a promo backstage alongside the TCW World Tag Team Champions, Marc Speed & Matt Hocking. Taylor congratulated Gauge on his win, and said that after Total Mayhem, Revolt would hold all of the titles in TCW. He referred to himself as "The Fifth Column", saying he'd take out both "Ace" and The One Man Army. [71]

  • Singles Match: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Roderick Remus defeated Clark Alexander (8:01) with the Remus Clutch. The finish came after Remus used a steel chair at ringside. [51] Remus was confronted after the match by his Total Mayhem opponent, Dazzling Dave Diamond, as the two stared each other down. [60]

  • Elsewhere, Wolf Hawkins and the rest of The Syndicate gave a promo backstage, talking up Chris Flynn's chances of winning the TCW International Title. [72]

  • Meanwhile, The One Man Army gave a pretty generic promo hyping up the main event at Total Mayhem. [65]

  • Last Man Standing Match: In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Jay Chord defeated Mad Man Maverick (with Mad Man Boone) (7:52) with the Cradle Piledriver. The finish came as Chord hit a Cradle Piledriver outside the ring, having carried the veteran to a passable match. [59] Chord tried to beat down The Man Men after the bout, but Edd Stone soon rushed out - with the two bitter rivals needing to be separated ahead of their big bout at Total Mayhem. [71]

  • Singles Match: In a terrible match, Nick Booth (with Floyd Goldworthy) defeated Daigo Goya (1:44) with the Lake Michigan Plunge. This was awful, and Booth's good guy biker gimmick looks dead on arrival. [16] After the bout, Eddie Peak emerged and promised Booth would be destroyed by the newest member of the Sinner Society at Total Mayhem - a man Peak described as a "giant" signing. [57]

  • TCW International Title Tournament - Semi-Finals, Singles Match: In a decent match, Magnum Kobe defeated Chris Flynn (9:15) with the Magnum Deathlock. Wolf Hawkins & The Elite tried to interfere on Flynn's behalf, but was fought off by the returning Mighty Mo - allowing Kobe to capitalise with his finishing hold. [59] Mo was soon joined by Tana the Mighty & T-Bone Bright, leading to a trios match at Total Mayhem. [67]

  • Eight-Man Tag Team Match: In a decent match, The Behemoths (Killer Shark & Titan) & Revolt (Marc Speed & Matt Hocking) def. Devine Fortune (Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine) & The American Cobras (Marvel Molloy & Storm Spillane) (12:30) with the Big Bite from Shark to Fortune. This was messy. [65]

  • Meanwhile, Magnum Kobe and Greg Gauge went face-to-face backstage, as Jason Azaria reminded the audience that the winner would be crowned the TCW International Champion at Total Mayhem. [56]

  • Singles Match: In a bout that had fantastic heat and decent wrestling, Sammy Bach defeated Troy Tornado (with Stink & Grunt) (10:22) with an Implant DDT. Freddy Huggins was on commentary. [67] After the bout, Bach and Huggins faced off ahead of their showdown at Total Mayhem - and the crowd ate this up. [77]

  • Finally, we had a contract signing to end the show as each of Aaron Andrews, The One Man Army and Joshua Taylor faced off. The tensions between Andrews and The One Man Army boiled over after last week's tag team loss, and the two engaged in a heated confrontation. Ever the opportunist, "The Fifth Column" Taylor capitalised - hitting The One Man Army with a Flying Knee and Andrews with a Death Valley Driver to stand tall to finish the show. [77]

Total Mayhem XXIV - Preview

image.png image.png image.png
TCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Aaron "Ace" Andrews (c) vs. "The Fifth Column" Joshua Taylor vs. The One Man Army

It's a surprising main event for many, but TCW World Heavyweight Champion Aaron "Ace" Andrews will look to extend his third reign as champion closer to the one-year mark against contenders Joshua Taylor and The One Man Army. Andrews has spent most of the start of his year preoccupied by members of The Syndicate, but has recently found a new threat in the form of Joshua Taylor. Taylor's faction Revolt has reigned supreme this year and has a stranglehold on much of TCW's gold - and after failing in his first attempt at the gold, "The Fifth Column" will no doubt be eager to avoid another defeat at the hands of "Ace".

Thrown into the mix is The One Man Army - a 20+ year veteran of the sport, whose career has grown from strength to strength. Since beating Wolf Hawkins in a classic Cage Match at "War to Settle the Score", the former five-time world tag team champion will be looking to claim TCW's biggest prize here at Total Mayhem. While he and Andrews share a great respect for one another - that has been tested in recent weeks, with each coming close to blows.

Whatever happens, it's bound to be a firecracker of a main event.

Freddy Huggins vs. "The Elation Sensation" Sammy Bach

In one of 2020's most intriguing rivalries, what started as a feud fuelled by sneak attacks from Freddy Huggins and (inexplicably) the pair being involved in the (equally inexplicable) kidnapping of Edd Stone's girlfriend, has involved into a feud about honour. Despite a relative lack of singles success, Sammy Bach remains one of TCW's most popular figures, and so Freddy Huggins made himself one of the organisation's leading heels when he interrupted a sit-down interview with Bach in February to call him washed up and slap him! The two have been engaged in a heated rivalry since, but in a series of red hot promos Bach has challenged Huggins to set aside his cheating ways and become a man of honour.

Huggins has seemingly set about proving himself to be a capable wrestler - without the need for cheating - but will he maintain those newfound cleanskin ways on the big stage?

LAST MAN STANDING MATCH
Edd Stone vs. Jay Chord

A blood feud between two of TCW's hottest young talents comes to a head in the Dust Bowl Fields, as the two second generation wrestlers do battle in a Last Man Standing Match. The two have been at loggerheads since Stone tried to stop a vicious assault by Chord on Sammy Bach at "Malice in Wonderland" - only to be struck over the head with a steel chair for his troubles. Since then, they have been at each others' throats, including a prolonged feud whereby Chord orchestrated the kidnapping of Stone's Swedish girlfriend, Vita. Stone secured Vita's release at "War to Settle the Score", but faces the biggest test of his career here against a man who many believe truly has no soul.

image.png image.png image.png

image.png image.png image.jpeg
The Syndicate (Wolf Hawkins, Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) vs. Mighty Mo, T-Bone Bright & Tana the Mighty

It's been a desperately disappointing start to the year for Wolf Hawkins - and The Syndicate generally - with the once dominant faction destined to end Total Mayhem without a belt between them. Since losing to Aaron Andrews at "Malice in Wonderland", Hawkins' stocks have continued to fall as he was on the receiving end of a shock loss to The One Man Army in a Cage Match at "War to Settle the Score". His partners, The Elite, haven't fared much better, as they were decisively beaten across three falls by Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright, who were soon re-joined by the giant Tana the Mighty who returned last month from an injury layoff.

But of course Hawkins couldn't bear to remain out of the spotlight for much longer, interfering on his protege Chris Flynn's behalf to knock Mo out of the International Title Tournament last month - and then sending him crashing into some sound equipment for good measure. While Mighty Mo's return on the final episode of Total Wrestling before Total Mayhem set up this big Trios Match - there remains a real question about whether he is 100% recovered.

image.png image.jpeg
TCW INTERNATIONAL TITLE TOURNAMENT - FINAL
TCW Television Champion Greg Gauge vs. PGHW Glory Crown Champion Magnum Kobe

Less than a year after it was retired, the TCW International Title is back - and a new champion will be crowned here, after the final champion before it was vacated last year (One Man Army) set his sights on Heavyweight Gold. Revolt's Greg Gauge will look to become the first man to hold the Television Title and International Title at the same time, but he will need to overcome international superstar Magnum Kobe, who last month claimed PGHW's Glory Crown for the first time.

This tournament has underwhelmed at times, but this is a fascinating battle between two of the best pure young wrestlers in the world today.

image.png image.png image.png image.png

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.png image.png
TCW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES - LADDER MATCH
Revolt (Marc Speed & Matt Hocking) (c) vs. Devine Fortune (Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine) vs.
COTT World Tag Team Champions The American Cobras (Marvel Molloy & Storm Spillane) vs. The Behemoths (Killer Shark & Titan)

In contrast to TCW's other titles, the World Tag Team Titles have changed hands on a number of times this year, and this Ladder Match could see those titles change hands again as four teams vie for the title. Three of them have had reigns as champions this year already, while the fourth (The American Cobras) are the current World Tag Team Champions. Whatever the result, it's bound to be chaos!

image.png image.jpeg
"Nasty" Nick Booth (with Floyd Goldworthy) vs. TBD (with Eddie Peak)

If it's been a bad year for The Syndicate, it has been a terrible year for Eddie Peak's Sinner Society, which has seen it lose its only gold (the tag titles), a big feud (against Dazzling Dave Diamond) and most recently two members (Nick Booth and Floyd Goldworthy). After a run of outs, the most junior member Nick Booth was kicked out by the frustrated "Hardcore Assassin", and the long time mouthpiece Floyd Goldworthy soon followed suit. But they got their revenge most recently, as Booth (now clad in jeans and a leather vest) returned last month to cost The Behemoths a tag team match against The American Cobras.

An incensed Eddie Peak promised revenge against Booth, saying he has searched the world for a new member of the Sinner Society - who will make their debut against Peak here in Kansas. But who will that new member be? We will just have to wait and see.

image.jpeg image.jpeg
Dazzling Dave Diamond vs. Roderick Remus

Dazzling Dave Diamond prevailed in his long running feud against the Eddie Peak and the Sinner Society, but was merely rewarded with a sneak attack by the devious upstart Roderick Remus. Remus has made his goal clear - to get on the Total Mayhem card - but many think he shouldn't have been rewarded for his cowardly and vicious attacks on the veteran Diamond. This feud hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but it's a huge chance for both men to plead their respective cases for greater opportunity.
