April 2023
As we head in to Wrestlemania 39 - Night 1, let's take a quick look at how the WWE is doing overall

WWE's Top 10 Events

image.png

Interestingly, not a single Premium Live Event makes the list. In comparison here are AEW's Top 10 Events:

image.png

Perhaps a surprise to some that WWE have managed to put on better shows than AEW over the last 9 months. But what about individual matches?

WWE's Top 10 Matches

image.png

AEW's Top 10 Matches

image.png

This is where AEW have been the clear winners, out performing WWE by a large margin. This shows the difference in AEW and WWE, where AEW seem focused on individual brilliance, WWE are putting on better shows.

This would help explain why WWE is still seen as the #1 Promotion in the entire world

image.png

There's a similar story when it comes down to individual wrestlers. WWE have the vast majority of the most popular wrestlers in the world:

Yet, if you look at the the 2022 Power 500 rankings, AEW Wrestlers come out on top:

WWE Wrestlemania 39 - Night 1
-----------------------------

For All The Gold: Becky Lynch vs. Asuka (c) (WWE Undisputed & WWE Women's World Titles)

July 2022, Money in the Bank, Becky Lynch won in the women's Money in the Bank match, claiming the contract for a title shot of her choice, little did we know then that this would kickstart a feud that would last 9 months between her and Asuka "For All The Gold". When Randy Orton won the Men's MITB the same evening, without being an official entrant into the match, Bobby Lashley went into a fury and attacked him, taking the MITB briefcase for himself. WWE Management decided that Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton would have a 1v1 MITB Ladder Match at Summerslam 2022.

What does all this have to do with Becky v Asuka?

Clash of the Champions 2022 Becky Lynch wished Bobby Lashley good luck as he prepared to face Roman Reigns, unknown to anyone at the time Lynch had swapped the briefcases around. Meanwhile, Asuka won the WWE Smackdown Women's title at Clash of the Champions, beating Io Shirai in the Tournament Final. The same night Becky Lynch was crowned WWE RAW Women's champion, defeating Charlotte Flair, Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair in a Fatal Four Way match.
During the main event of Clash of Champions, Bobby Lashley v Roman Reigns for the WWE title and WWE Universal title, Lashley and Roman Reigns fought to a draw as they both escaped the cage at the same time. Lashley cashed his MITB contract in, determined to become champion.
However... midway through the restart Becky Lynch ran down and cashed-in, too. Becky pointed out that SHE had the right contract, having swapped them earlier in the night. Unsure what to do the referee allowed the match to become a Triple Threat Cage Match between Lashley, Reigns and Lynch. Taking advantage of the tired Lashley and Reigns, Becky Lynch was able to pin Bobby Lashley and become the new WWE, WWE Universal and WWE RAW Women's champion in a single night.

Her sights were firmly set on the last remaining title... Asuka's WWE Smackdown championship.

The following night on RAW an inquest was ordered by Paul Heyman in to how such an oversight could happen to rob Roman Reigns of his titles. Stephanie McMahon and the WWE legal team investigated and found that Becky Lynch was the holder of the contract and cashed it in - rightly or wrongly, it was legally fine. Cody Rhodes reminded Heyman that "the Bloodline didn't do rematches".
Becky appeared on SmackDown where she challenged Asuka for the WWE SmackDown Women's title at the Survivor Series 2023, as she eyed up holding FOUR top titles within the WWE at once. Asuka accepted on one condition - that Becky put all her titles on the line. Lynch accepted, confirming at WWE Survivor Series 2023 WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Asuka v WWE, WWE Universal & WWE RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch FOR ALL THE GOLD.

Things didn't go to plan for Lynch, as Asuka sprayed Black Mist into Becky's face aiding her in picking up the win giving Asuka ALL THE GOLD. Soon after Asuka crowned herself The Empress of the WWE, as she held both the WWE and WWE Universal titles, alongside the WWE RAW and Smackdown Women's titles. Becky Lynch wouldn't be seen for several months as she recovered from the paralysing Black Mist attack. In Lynch's absence, Asuka's reign ran wild over RAW and Smackdown, as she formidable group known as The Empire controlled all the titles, which now included the WWE Women's World Tag Team titles.

Any would be challenge first had to face Asuka's warriors, Shayna Baszler, Aja Kong and Sonya Deville in a gauntlet match to prove their worth. Fearless and filled with power, Asuka even went as far as to defy the WWE Board of Directors, knowing she had held all the power in the form of the titles, which now included the WWE Cruiserweight title. As a mark of her unrivaled power, Asuka merged the WWE and WWE Universals titles into a single WWE Undisputed title, simiarly she merged the RAW and Smackdown titles into a WWE Women's World title.
Asuka even went as far as to rename the 30th Anniversary RAW special edition to 'Asuka Appreciation Night', showing highlights of Askua's achievements in NXT and the WWE.

Lynch finally returned in January 2023, instantly reigniting her feud with Asuka, after Asuka had announced that the 2023 Royal Rumble would be renamed in her honor as the Empress Rumble where 20 men and 20 women would all compete to be the final one standing. However, Asuka refused to allow Becky Lynch to enter The Empress Rumble, bit a slip of the tongue allowed Becky Lynch in after Lynch accepted Askua's taunt "the only way you'll get in to The Empress Rumble is if you start as number 1". Not to be outdone The Empress quickly made Seth Rollins entrant Number 2.

The Empress Rumble 2023 saw Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins start as Number 1 and Number 2... yet, they refused to fight, and spent the entire Rumble saving each other as 38 other would be contenders entered. The final two remained... Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins... as the watching Askua gleefully awaited the pair to attack each other, Rollins blew a kiss and eliminated himself, giving Becky Lynch the win. Asuka was furious.

We now all watch and wait as 9 months of torment and repair come to ahead. Can Becky Lynch finally claim ALL THE GOLD and put an end to The Empress of the WWE's control? Or will The Empress remain full of glory at the end of the night?

Bullrope Match: Bray Wyatt vs. Cody Rhodes

Bray Wyatt's return to the WWE has seen him slowly pick at the wounds that won't heal, as he first took revenge on Randy Orton and now has his sight set on Cody Rhodes. For Cody Rhodes his return from injury has been plagued by Bray Wyatt's constant cryptic taunts and interference, to the point it can no longer be ignored.

Cody first noticed Bray's infatuation during The Empress Appreciation Night edition of RAW in Janurary, with Bray watching Cody's match against Finn Balor. The following week Cody was pleased to share his return to in-ring action with the crowd, explaining its all about making up for lost time now. Yet, his match against Otis was interrupted as the lights went out and single lantern lit up the entrance way carried by The Fiend. The distraction was enough for Bray Wyatt to attack Cody Rhodes from behind.

Bray Wyatt explained that Husky Harris can't forget, can't forget how his mentor DASHING Cody Rhodes betrayed him. Body shamed him. How Cody Rhodes is to blame for the creation that stands before him now.

During The Empress Rumble, Bray Wyatt interferred, dragging Cody Rhodes over the top rope, after making it to the Final Four. But Cody understands, as he thinks he and Bray Wyatt are similar. They've both travelled similar paths. Cody left WWE to find himself and improve after nobody understood him and kept giving him bad gimmicks after bad gimmicks. Husky Harris and Stardust are the same. Cody left to prove the doubters wrong, now the doubters are his biggest fans. He lost the chip on his shoulder and made the name 'Rhodes' his own and nost just Father's. Cody offered to talk to Bray Wyatt, to help him through the pain.

Bray Wyatt even went as far as dressing up as Husky Harris again, as he claimed Cody Rhodes was nothing more than a bully. But Husky's redemption is coming. Wyatt's Legacy will be seen by all. Wyatt wouldn't listen as Cody tried to explain that the pair are so similar, their familes have had to endure WWE's continued poking to making them all look like jokes - IRS, Goldust, Stardust, Husky Harris, Polka Dots...

When Cody Rhodes accidentally knocked over the Firefly Lantern when attempting to save Alexa Bliss from The Cardinals' attacks, it seemed to spark something within Bray Wyatt, as he proclaimed the Fireflies have been set free. Just as Randy Orton had set free The Feind, Cody Rhodes has set free Bray Wyatt. Finally, Cody Rhodes had had enough of Bray Wyatt refusing to accept his help, so challenged him to a match at Fastlane 2023.

Cody Challenge
- Cody Rhode's music plays
- Over the last month or so there's been an issue between Cody and Bray Wyatt
- Cody has had enough and its time for Bray and Cody Rhodes to step into the ring
- Cody: You want to blame me for what's happened to you, Bray, I get it. I don't understand it, but I get it. I wanted to blame so many people for what happened to me, but instead I left. I took it as a sign to walk away and find myself. We've had similar paths but entirely different journeys. We both come from wrestling families, we've both had to endure decisions and ideas we didn't agree with, we've both been away from the WWE and returned. But we've walked entirely different paths. Am I to blame for Husky Harris? I don't think I am, I was young... I was dashing... should I have been a mentor to a rookie? Probably not, but I tried my best. Did Husky?
- Cody: While you've wallowed in self pity and grief to try and rebuild, I went out into the unknown, unable to even use my legal last name, to... ironically... mae a name for myself. To be me. So if it helps you heal, if it helps you find a reason to improve yourself, if it helps you find a name for yourself, then lets do this. Let's step into the ring at FASTLANE and slug it out. But I can't promise it will be the soothing redemption you desire. I can't promise it'll ease the pain that's stopping you from seeing there are people here who want to help you, who look to you for guidiance like Alexa and Liv.

Bray Accepts
- Bray's Music plays
- But there's no Husky Harris, there's no The Fiend, there's no Swamp Preacher Bray Wyatt
- Bray's voice plays over the speakers
- Cody Rhodes. The Rhodes family. A royal family of wrestling. I will accept your challenge, but I'm not sure what will manifest itself at FASTLANE. Bray Wyatt is dead. You let the fireflies out. Husky Harris... died long ago. The Fiend... well, he won't talk to me anymore. I'm searching for who I am, what I am. I watched them take Alexa and Liv. I watched them to see if they were part of who I am, or just a memory of something I once thought I belonged to. A family. I see now, I KNOW now, that I don't care for them. I have surrounded myself with outsiders, sheep, fireflies, dolls to try and fill a void I had ignored for so long. Myself.

I've never known who I am.

At Fastlane 2023, Bray Wyatt aka Windham picked up the victory in a brutal match, after debuting a new comback spot following Bo Wyatt's inteferrence. The battered and bruised Cody Rhodes wouldn't been seen for a number of weeks. When he did return, he returned with a Bullrope and a challenge to Bray Wyatt. You want to talk legacies... let's talk about a Rhode legacy... let's talk about a Bullrope match at Wrestlemania...

Will Cody Rhodes finally help Windham/Bray Wyatt heal? Will Bray Wyatt seek the redemption he craves? Is the WWE ready for a Bullrope match?

BEST IN THE WORLD: KENTA vs. Daniel Bryan

When Daniel Bryan returned to the WWE, he returned as the masked American Dragon, as he just wanted to wrestle. He didn't need people to know who he was, just what he was - the best in the world. Sadly, the WWE fans were quick to notice similar moves from the masked man and quickly realised it was Daniel Bryan. Unable to keep his secret any longer, Daniel Bryan unmasked and apologised for the deciet. However, his proclomation had already been heard by someone far away... one of the greatest wrestlers in Japan... KENTA.

Invited to the WWE by The Empress, KENTA wanted one thing - Daniel Bryan. For KENTA, Daniel Bryan is everything that he has hated about American wrestling... fake claims and a lack of credit. First someone stole the Go To Sleep, and now there's another wouldbe trying to claim they're THE BEST IN THE WORLD. For Daniel Bryan its a chance to final face KENTA, as there paths never crossed when they were both in the WWE.

Its a simple matter: Who is the best in the world?

Retirement Match: Goldberg vs. Rex Steiner

Bill Goldberg's career has been a powerful one. Everyone remember's The Streak. Yet, for some, The Streak has been seen as an overblown accomplishment. Edge - The Last Superstar of the Attitude Era - launched a bounty on Goldberg's career, offering £500,000 for anyone who could defeat Bill Goldberg.

When Bret Hart retired as SmackDown General Manager, he made a single change to Goldberg's contract: If Goldberg was ever pinned or submitted, he would have to retire.

Several people attempted to be the person to retire Goldberg, but all failed. But Goldberg had an allie, a young wrestlers he saw similar to himself, the son of Rick Steiner and Nephew to Scott Steiner - Rex Steiner. Goldberg took the rookie under his wing as a mentor, and the pair went on a win streak. Steiner even helped Goldberg regain control over his contract in a TLC match at FASTLANE 2023 against Edge and Kevin Owens. Or so he thought...
Now with Goldberg's contract in his hand, Steiner made it clear - Goldberg's career was in his hands. He didn't want anyone else to claim the bounty or have the pride of ending Goldberg. Steiner hated Goldberg, he was sick of Goldberg, he knew all about Goldberg after hearing stories from his Dad and Uncle - Goldberg... you're a bitch.

BAM. Since FASTLANE the pair have been spearing and hitting Jackhammers on each other as they approach Wrestlemania.

Will Goldberg defeat the young upstart and continue his career? Or will Rex Steiner claim a major scalp as he begins his career and ends Goldberg's?

WWE World Tag Team and WWE US Title Match: Mace & OMOS vs. Kofi & Xavier Woods

Omos is the Big Friendly Nigerian Giant, or as he likes to be called The BFNG. Since teaming up with MACE he has tried his best to help people out and to show that Giants aren't all angry, nasty people. Yet, the nice side has seen MACE and Omos lose the WWE World Tag Team titles and the WWE US Titles to the newly scheming New Day.

Since the arrival of Dr. Gacy, R-Truth has found a new nasty streak and has managed to bring Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to his way of thinking, too.

MACE and Omos look to regain the WWE World Tag Team titles. And, for whoever scores the pinfall, potentially become the new WWE US Champion, too.

Dijakovic managed to get some revenge for The Cardinal as he eliminated Priest. Davey Boy Smith Jr. showed his immense strength as he elminated Otis, only for The Miz to push Davey Boy over. Tag Team partners The Miz and Dolph Ziggler had a tense stand off, before agreeing not to attack each other, but this was a moment of weakness as Samoa Joe threw The Miz out and Shinsuke eliminated Dolph Ziggler.
