You got that right. But first, we are in for the initially planned main event of Big Van Vader vs Barry Windham. These two men were originally scheduled to compete in the main event, but the buzz around WCW’s tag team scene has forced a change, especially with the quality of the wrestlers involved in the tag team match. They’ll be motivated to steal back the spotlight, that’s for sure. Vader looks to maintain his unstoppable start and has looked like he’s at the peak of his career. But Windham’s no slouch and this should be a hard hitting start to the night. Well folks, we’ve gotta get this show started! Tony, Jim, take it away! The cameras are rolling in the arena and we go down to the ramp for our first contest of the night! The atmosphere is charged as Big Van Vader, the dominant force in WCW's Premier League, makes his intimidating entrance. Vader exudes confidence as he steps into the ring, showcasing his formidable presence. On the other side, 'Widowmaker' Barry Windham enters with a determined look, poised to prove his mettle against the powerhouse Vader. Many wrestlers would take a demotion out of the Premier League as a negative, but Steamboat has flourished, and helped bring the tag team division to the forefront of WCW. I hate to agree with the sentiment of giving losers a consolation prize, but I gotta admit that the main event proved to be worthy of it's spot, and a large factor of that is based on how good Ricky is inside those ropes. But we gotta acknowledge the other man who fell from the Premier League and has stepped up - Dr. Death earned the victory tonight for his team and proved that The Miracle Violence Connection is quite possibly the toughest unit in wrestling today. Well folks, next week we wrap up Round 5 and conclude the first third of our 1994 season. After the tag team division stole the show with an amazing main event this week, The Journeymen and True Grit square off in the sole tag team match on the next WCW Saturday Night. True Grit is off to a good start to the season with a positive record and looks to continue their winning ways with their rough and gritty style. Can the two teams keep the momentum of the tag team division at it's current level? During their sole previous encounter, True Grit walked away victorious - can The Journeymen gain a measure of revenge and course correct their current trajectory? While it seems as though that heat has subsided between the two, could match number three stir old feelings, or will one man finally rise above the other? Also in the Premier League, Cactus Jack looks to find his first victory, but he's got a huge task in front of him when he squares off against the leader of Player Enterprises, Nobuhiko Takada. Takada has taken down giants and owns one of the greatest records in WCW. It’s great to be here in the home state of the Rhodes family, and the home down of the chosen son, the hero of tonight’s main event, Dustin Rhodes! Division Three will be compromised of the top talents from WCW’s subsidiaries as they compete to join WCW’s main roster! Now, normally I am critical of WCW management’s decision making, but this is something that makes sense to me - something that I applaud for a change! Four wrestlers from the Power Plant, four from Canada, four from Japan, and the four talents demoted from Division Two. What really gets to me is that they will also simultaneously compete in the subsidiaries in one of the most gruelling schedules wrestling has to offer! Hmmm, yes. Aptly named by WCW Chief Operating Officer Eric Bischoff, ‘The Grind’, Division Three athletes will be subject to a 15 match schedule on WCW Main Event on top of their international schedule in the lower divisions. Bischoff states that the road to the top is meant to ensure only the greatest talents in wrestling make it to the top of the world. Getting to the top of the wrestling world is hard enough as it is, but this may just put some wrestlers off of their journey due to the added risk of injury. Please… If they want an easier path to the top, they can go compete in the North. If they can’t make it through ‘The Grind’ then they just don’t have what it takes! Wrestlers today are getting soft and this will keep them in line. Back in the territory days, you wrestled 300 days out of the year, and spent the other 60 days on the road to your next show! Zbyzsko is determined to outsmart Flamingo Corp's underhanded tactics and earn a crucial victory in the tournament. Scotty Flamingo is making waves in Division Two, not just with his in-ring skills but with the support of Flamingo Corp. Larry Zbyzsko, however, is a ring general who knows every trick in the book. This matchup promises to be a battle of wits and wills. Larry Zbyzsko is a seasoned veteran, a master strategist in the ring. Scotty Flamingo (5-0-0) defeated Larry Zbyszko (1-4-0) in 17:17 by way of pin fall following interference from El Gigante. This was their first ever encounter. Before the competitors make their entrance, a special video package of Dustin Rhodes airs. It showcases him as a pure underdog that is unsure of himself. He’s training under the Texas sun… Tonight, the weight of the world rest on Dustin’s shoulders. He’s facing one of his father’s greatest rivals and more importantly I think, he faces his own insecurities. As we’ve neared this match, we’ve learned something about young Dustin… He’s got a lot of soul and emotion inside of him. You got that right, Jim! And while the focus has been on Dustin’s own personal struggles, it be foolish not to mention that his opponent, Ric Flair, is one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots. I think Dustin has built this up too much in his own head and may be nearing a personal collapse. Dustin comes out first and is accompanied by his father and Barry. They pose on the stage and give Dustin morale support, when The Four Horsemen enter early and attack on the ramp! Gilbert and Windham brawl into the crowd while Pillman and Austin beat on Dusty! Flair gouges Dustin’s eyes and then proceeds to bounce his head off of everything on route to the ring. Dustin’s bleach blonde hair is coated in blood as he enters the ring and Randy Anderson asks if he still wants to compete, and the bell rings to start the match. Flair continues to work over Dustin, hitting a sick piledriver that Dustin barely kicks out of early. A ringside, Dusty overcomes Pillman and Austin and returns to the ring to support his son. Dustin’s a bloody mess as he starts to fight back. They spill to the outside again and Dusty and Ric argue, allowing Dustin to send Ric face first into the ring post. Both men are leaking now! Back in the ring, Flair takes advantage of a distraction and hits a chop block on Dustin, and then locks on the Figure Four. Dustin nearly passes out, but rises to a seated position and punches his way out of the hold. Brawling continues outside. Dusty gets up on the apron and Flair mocks him. Dustin grabs Flair from behind in a headlock, his eyes open wide, and he hits the Running Bulldog! Dustin wins!! Dusty and Barry join the bloody Dustin in the ring and celebrate his monumental victory. Dusty hogs the camera as he taunts Flair. Flair is yelling at ringside as his cronies attempt to calm him down. Flair says this isn’t over. Dusty celebrates more as Barry tends to Dustin. Dustin Rhodes (1-4-0) defeated Ric Flair (2-3-0) in 18:16 by way of pin fall. This was their first ever encounter. Replays are shown of the finishes from the night, followed by the updated leaderboards for WCW’s Grand Prix. Standing by for analysis is the team of Harley Race, Rick Rude, and Paul E Dangerously. He did it! The kid pulled off the impossible and defeated Ric Flair in front of the world! What an amazing main event! Where does Flair go from here? He looked furious after suffering the defeat! I’ll tell you what, Harley. Dustin, he stole that victory… thanks to interference from his daddy. But it doesn’t matter - neither man is competition for ‘The Ruler of the World’, Ravishing Rick Rude! Flair proved that he's not at the top of his game, and Dusty proved he’s the same glory hog he always was. You got that right, Rick! Did you see Dusty, stealing the spotlight like he defeated Flair tonight? That fat old fart probably thinks he belongs in the ring still… But maybe he’s better suited trying his luck in the ring, rather than failing as a commissioner. That’s enough of that, fellas. Let’s talk about our other big stories from tonight… Namely, that Lex Luger moved into sole ownership of the top spot in the Premier League. The dude has risen above the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Sting and is proving to the world that he is possibly the best in the world today! Rude, do you want to do the honours of announcing the MVP for the week? It’s me. I don't care that I didn’t wrestle this week, and neither does anyone else. The world is happy to just bear witness to their golden boy, the ravishing ruler of the world! I don’t need the cash, but WCW should be awarding me that bonus for bringing in the viewers even on what was supposed to be a night off! But, based on the technicality of this bonus going to someone who wrestled, WCW is obliged to award Nobuhiko Takada ‘first star’ for the week… You know, I could get used to you, Rick, joining us each week instead of that muppet Dusty, or that stooge Magnum. In Division Two action, Tully Blanchard takes on Diamond Dallas Page with only a single point separating the two competitors. Tully has the advantage though in a multitude of ways - with the one point lead, the sole victory in their previous encounter... but perhaps most substantially, a lack of underlying injuries. We don't know the status of Page after the vicious beating he received at the hands of Stan Hansen this past week. Will Page even be able to compete, much less overcome the always competitive Tully Blanchard? Plus, 'The South Atlantic Savior' Scotty Flamingo looks to maintain his stranglehold over the Division when he squares off against 'The Hotstuff Horseman' Eddie Gilbert. Flamingo is undefeated, but those wins have been the result of hook and crook as his cronies, Stan Hansen, El Gigante, Haku and Alexandra York have served up victories on a silver platter for him. Will Flamingo continue to buy his way through the competition? Or will The Four Horsemen's Eddie Gilbert be the first to overcome the financial backing of Flamingo Corp? In tag team action, we are still fresh off of the very first WCW Saturday Night main event to feature the tag team division and The Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams and Terry Gordy) are looking to build off of the momentum they've established in winning that historic event. They take on the always dangerous Samoan Swat Team (Samu and Fatu) in a first ever encounter that is sure to be a wild encounter. Which team will outlast the other? And then, two teams that have been having struggles as of late look to turn things around before the midway point of the season. PS Lucha (Solar and Blue Panther) started their inaugural run in WCW's tag team division with two straight victories, but have lost their last three. Meanwhile, The Terrors were one win away from a promotion at the end of last season, but the monumental collapse has rolled into a terrible run so far this season. Which team will find their footing and pick up the win in this intriguing first ever match-up. Then, in Premier League action, Arn Anderson and Bam Bam Bigelow square off for the second time in their careers. Bigelow one the first encounter last season, but coming into this match Arn seems to have struck a nerve with Bigelow when he brought up that Bigelow is playing second fiddle to Takada in Player Enterprises. Will Bigelow's rage get the best of him? Or has Arn awoken a giant? Either way, these two tore it up when they squared off last time, and this is sure to be no different! Finally, in our main event, Sting and The Great Muta square off one on one. The Ace of WCW stumbled in Round 5, unable to put away Stan Hansen and ultimately dropping his first points this season in a draw. Many are pointing to him being distracted by the belief that Hulk Hogan is untrustworthy. Muta insists that he wants to face a fully focused Sting and has tried to centre him, but are their cracks in The Stinger's game plan? I hope Dustin thinks this return will just grow that shadow he’s trying to get out from underneath of, and he’s disheartened to the point where he’s easy pickings for me next week. I can’t believe you are asking me about his future match when he's got me next week to worry about! And I can’t believe that Dusty is going to return to the ring! I hope Flair leaves him so emotionally destroyed that he walks away from the business altogether. But let’s talk about what happened tonight… Sting overcame his distractions even with Hulk Hogan at ringside, and managed to squeak out a win, but it was the least convincing win Sting has had in a long, long time. And speaking of unconvincing wins, Arn was demolished tonight, and stole a win against Bigelow. You got that right, Paul. Plus, we saw Miracle Violence Connection put on yet another spectacular brawl in victory. That effort has earned ‘Dr. Death’ Steve Williams the MVP of the week bonus. And how about that brutal mess between Eddie Gilbert and Scotty Flamingo? Now that, that was beautiful. Sometimes I wish that WCW would loosen up the rules around this place so that I could inflict the perverse pain that I want to… but I have got to say that this was the first time that I saw Scotty Flamingo as a worthwhile competitor. Who knew that he had that sort of violence inside of him? Agreed. We frequently blast Flamingo for the blatant cheating and interference that mares his matches, and the asterisk that has been his first place ranking so far this season. In Division Two action, two of the top dogs in the division vie for a huge win that would put either man at the top of the division. Kevin Von Erich looks to unleash his vicious Barefoot Punt Kick to continue his winning ways, but he is going to have to contend with the always dominant Dan Severn. Severn's specialty is wearing his opponents down and keeping them grounded as he gets in position for a dangerous submission finish. If he can keep Von Erich grounded, then Von Erich won't be able to deploy his nasty Barefoot Punt Kick! But Kevin has an advantage of an extra 15 years of experience - will that be the advantage that pushes him to the top? In tag team action, WCW Saturday Night will start off with the team of True Grit looking to continue their current roll as they take on The Fantastics. After weeks of Bobby Fulton playing defence for Tommy Rogers' injured shoulder, his efforts came crashing down in Round 5 when The Horsemen isolated Rogers and brutally assaulted him. Will Tommy be in good enough shape to bounce back, or will The Fantastics continue their losing woes? And speaking of the Horsemen, it's a major headlining match for the Tag Team Division as Austin and Pillman take on The Classic Era. The two teams are the only teams remaining with perfect records so far this season and this is sure to be a classic as they battle for sole possession of the top spot in the division. A major key to this match up will be whether Pillman and Austin can stay focused on the match at hand, as we are freshly removed from the announcement that they will compete alongside Ric Flair against the returning Dusty Rhodes at Slamboree! Plus, the always dangerous 'Kiwi Queen' Susan Sexton will be lurking at ringside to attempt to get The Classic Era any advantage they can muster up! Then, in Premier League action, it's the Son of the Son of a Plumber - 'Lonestar' Dustin Rhodes - taking to the ring for the first time since his historic victory over Ric Flair. He has a dangerous Cactus Jack across the ring from him, and Jack has been made all the more dangerous by circumstance - the only competitor remaining in the Premier League without a victory on the season, Cactus Jack is a beast that has been backed into a corner. Will he capture his first win inside the Premier League, or will Dustin Rhodes capitalize on the momentum of his massive win? After all, surely he must feel as though he's no longer living in the shadow of his father? Or perhaps he's still focused on this budding rivalry with Ric Flair - who will also be in action on Saturday Night against the leader of Player Enterprises, 'Submission Supreme' Nobuhiko Takada. Flair's season so far has not gone as planned as he has slid down the rankings while Takada is looking more dangerous than ever and is nearing the top of the Premier League. When these two men squared off in 1993, they went the distance with no victor being decided. However, Ric Flair had the advantage as time expired, as he had his signature Figure Four locked in and Takada could not find an escape. With Flair in a rage over his recent defeat at the hands of Dustin Rhodes, will he find the aggression needed to lock in the Figure Four earlier and force Takada to tap? Or will Takada continue his run to the top of WCW? Finally, in our Premier League main event, Lex Luger and Big Van Vader wage a war of the undefeated. Luger holds the all-time advantage against Vader with one win and their other contest having gone to a time limit draw.
