AEW 2019: FROM THE BEGINNING

Recommended Posts

image.png

WHY?

I'm an AEW fan and this is the company that I've followed the most over the past years. This is my first Real World diary and I think is the only one I could do with a certain knowledge. Although I keep watching the product (not as usual as I did) I have the feeling that AEW is not as good right now as I thought it could be some day. I want to re-book AEW from the beginning. I'm not saying my re-book will be better than reality, it's just for fun, I hope you enjoy this too and I hope you don't get mad at least.

THE RULES

- Use the same workers that were available at the time for each Event. For example, for Double Or Nothing 2019 I will use the starting roster. If a wrestler left AEW in the real world, I won't use him after the day of his departure. This doesn't affect injuries.

- I will only use real cards for each event or TV show as a guide. If I like one match I can repeat it exactly or change the result, if I don't like what I see I can book a completely different match or change some participants. As I advance in AEW history my events and shows will be more and more different from the real ones. The same for the main storylines, I will maintain some and create new ones.

- (ADDED 05/22/2023) The pandemic never happened in this diary. I will refer to crowd reaction, there will be live shows in different venues, etc.

- Maybe I will change some of this rules or create new ones in the future but the aim of this diary won't change. Again, don't get mad at me. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to do this!

The aim of this diary is to create an alternative history of AEW from the beginning.

NOTE: I used for this diary The Elite Opportunity mod (thanks to Jordan Jaxson). This mod starts at the end of 2018, but I will start at Double Or Nothing 2019, so I edited the database to adjust this and many other things.

THE BUY-IN:

Riho (3).pngHikaru Shida (2).pngvst.pngAja Kong (2).pngYuka Sakazaki (4).png

RIHO & HIKARU SHIDA vs AJA KONG & YUKA SAKAZAKI

These japanese women wrestlers have the privilege to be in the first match in AEW history. The heels take the early advantage as Yuka showcases her dynamic style and an aged very slow but at the same time very powerful Aja Kong, who even picks up Riho and throws her outside of the ring over the top rope. Riho and Shida regroup and seem to have good chemistry. Finally Shida throws Sakazaki out of the ring, then hits Aja Kong with a running knee and Riho finish her with a Somato. Riho pins Aja Kong.

KIP SABIAN (w/ Penelope Ford) vs SAMMY GUEVARA

High flying maneuvers, specially by Guevara, highlighted the match. Kip Sabian seemed to got the advantage around the 10:00 minute mark, when Guevara hits him on the head with a metal lighter that he had taken from someone in the crowd before. 1, 2, 3... Sammy wins.

AWESOME KONG vs DR. BRITT BAKER D.M.D. vs NYLA ROSE vs KYLIE RAE

Awesome Kong and Nyla Rose face each other starting the match and Awesome Kong demonstrates she still hasn't lost the touch completely dominating the match early on. Dr. Britt Baker scapes outside the ring and Kylie Rae follows her. After a few minutes the four wrestlers are inside the ring, but Nyla Rose tries to throw Awesome Kong out of the ring with a clothesline and they both end up lying on the floor on the ringside extenuated. Dr. Britt Baker takes out her glove to rise to the occasion and at the first sign of weakness does the lockjaw and Kylie Rae submits.

Adam Page as Hangman.pngvst.pngPac as Adrian Neville (3).png

HANGMAN PAGE vs PAC

After an epic babyface entrance where Hangman is clearly hobble and refusing to miss a match in the first AEW event, PAC has no mercy with him. They brawl furiously in and outside the ring, but Hangman is clearly taking the worst part. Hangman has nothing left in the tank and is lying down. PAC performs the Black Arrow and then submits Hangman with a Brutalizer.

STB SoCal Uncensored2.jpgFrankie Kazarian (3).pngChristopher Daniels (5).pngimage.png

SCU after saying Las Vegas is the worst town they've ever been to, they celebrate with the crowd "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels win in the Casino Battle Royal as he has secured a spot in a singles match to decide the first AEW World Champion against the winner of tonight's Main Event match between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.

Maxwell Jacob Feinstein (3).png

MJF interrupts. "You stole my opportunity, Christopher Daniels. I am the one that truly deserves that spot because I'm better than you and you know it!"

Jurassic Express.jpgimage.pngJungle Boy.pngimage.png

Oooooooo Ooooooo. JURASSIC EXPRESS make their entrance! Jungle Boy, who was eliminated by MJF just before Christopher Daniels won, says "YOU stole my opportunity, you cheater!".

Luchasaurus grabs MJF by the neck and chokeslam! SCU join Jurassic Express and together they destroy MJF for a couple of minutes.

Chuck Taylor (6).pngTrent Barreta (6).pngvst.pngAngelico (2).pngJack Evans (4).png

BEST FRIENDS (CHUCK TAYLOR & TRENT) vs THE HYBRID 2 (ANGELICO & JACK EVANS)

The Hybrid 2 dance their way to the ring and their cool entrance is of the liking of the crowd. Both tag teams go all out from the start of the match. Chuck Taylor and Jack Evans are the legal man and the first one dominates. After surviving a couple of 2 counts Jack Evans gets to the corner and Angelico becomes legal. Trent enters the match later. Angelico performs the highlights of the match with aerial maneuvers and after one of them pins Trent to win the match.

w/ Eden as Brandi Rhodes.pngCody Rhodes (6).pngvst.pngDustin Rhodes (4).png

CODY RHODES (w/ Brandi Rhodes) vs DUSTIN RHODES

After a video package where the story behind this match between brothers and an epic entrance by Cody, Dustin takes the early advantage in the match, but Cody is able to dodge a hard hit and is Dustin who hits the corner with his forehead and starts to bleed. Dustin slowly regains the advantage when the action is outside of the ring, but Brandi can't stand the beating his husband is receiving and attacks him from behind. This frees Cody to recover a little and when the action is back to the ring he has more energy than his elder brother. After connecting two Cross Rhodes he pins Dustin.

Cody Rhodes def. Dustin Rhodes (Rating: 44, Time: 18:00)

After the match CODY in tears asks DUSTIN to not retire and be his tag team partner against "what I believe is the best tag team in the world, The Young Bucks" at Fight For The Fallen.

THE YOUNG BUCKS (MATT JACKSON & NICK JACKSON) vs LUCHA BROTHERS (REY FÉNIX & PENTA EL ZERO MIEDO)

Matt Jackson (5).pngNick Jackson (6).pngvst.pngPentagon Jr (3).pngFenix (4).png

Penta fires the crowd with his "Zero Miedo" catchphrase to begin the action. This leads to an epic spot-fest and dynamic plays full of superkicks by both tag teams. Rey Fénix's high-flying moves are the highlight of the match and probably of the show until now and amazes the crowd every time he walks the top rope before jumping over one of the Jackson brothers. Both Matt and Nick survive 2 counts and then Fénix is pinned as well but he resists too and the match keeps going. After some brilliant tag moves by Matt and Nick, Fenix receives a double superkick and finally takes the 3 count and Matt gets the win.

THE YOUNG BUCKS def. LUCHA BROTHERS (Rating: 63, Time: 25:00)

MAIN EVENT:

Kenny Omega (4).pngvst.pngChris Jericho (11).png

KENNY OMEGA vs CHRIS JERICHO

A video package reminds the audience about this feud that started at AEW's inaugural rally. Kenny, the younger one, is the self-made star that comes back from Japan. Jericho, the wrestling legend, is not as athletic as he once was but he knows every trick in this business. They brawl until both of them fall from the apron. Slowly they are on their feet again until Jericho throws Omega against a fence leaving his nose bleeding. Omega continuously touches his nose and Jericho pushes him and does the Codebreaker. Jericho tries to submit a weakened Omega with the Walls Of Jericho but after a lot of struggle Omega touches the ropes. Once Omega recovers the advantage he tries a One Winged Angle, but Jericho reverses it. When the referee isn't looking Jericho starts to take off one corner pad and Omega walks to the corner to stop Jericho. Omega looks back to tell the referee about it when Jericho suddenly turns around and connects a Judas Effect. Omega is out. 1, 2 and 3.

CHRIS JERICHO def. KENNY OMEGA (Rating: 60, Time: 21:00)

Jericho demands a "thank you" from the crowd, he says that if this company exists and if they sold out the arena in minutes is only because of his name value. The crowd boos him.

Dean Ambrose as Jon Moxley.png

JON MOXLEY surprisingly makes his entrance through the crowd and attacks both Jericho and Omega. The crowd goes wild, nobody can believe Mox is here. Omega fights back and they start brawling outside the ring. Finally Moxley powerbombs Omega over a casino chip. This is the moment of the night!

A few weeks before Double Or Nothing...

Tony Khan.png  Hello newbiezness! We were waiting for you. I have prepared a meeting with the creative team, everything is ready for the first event!

TK: We really needed someone like you. We have already booked the card for Double or Nothing. But as we agreed you will always have the last word! I'm going to leave you with the creative team and you will talk about the details with them. I'm grateful you accepted my offer newbiezness.

newbiezness: OK, thank you Tony. Leave it on my hands. People, can you show me what you've got?

(newbiezness examines the card)

officialdon2019.png

newbiezness: We have some work to do here. First of all, what happens with the match between PAC and Hangman Page that was announced at AEW's inaugural rally? You have already officially announced the match for DoN, didn't you?

Creative: Yes, we did. We have two problems. Hangman Page is injured but he is willing to wrestle at all costs at Double or Nothing. PAC doesn't want to lose his winning streak against Hangman Page.

newbiezness: And he won't do it! PAC is no way going to lose his winning streak against Hangman. We want to push PAC, he is one of our most famous wrestlers and a top in-ring performer. We only have a few ones like him. If Hangman is injured he will lose to PAC in a few minutes. And there's no way I'm going to give Hangman the win in the Casino Battle Royal to face Jericho in the first AEW World Championship match. Hangman has won nothing and isn't ready yet and we are just starting as a company, we can't use our first championship match to build a rookie. We are going to give that win to another established veteran, who can work babyface in that match, to give some early reputation to our title. And the Casino Battle Royal will open the show.

(newbiezness keeps reading the card)

newbiezness: Ok... As long as I do like japanese female wrestlers, they aren't going to have a Six-Way Tag Team match in the mid-card. We will put a Tag Team match in the Buy-In between the wrestlers that we really want to showcase.

Kip and Sammy will be the second match, we have to give the impression that they are future stars and Sammy is not going to lose.

The Hybrid 2 are cool and the fans will enjoy their entrance if we don't make them look like jobbers, they will win against The Best Friends.

The whole Dark Order angle gets cancelled, this feels like an invasion angle and we can't have an outsiders invasion when the company hasn't even started.

We still need a few changes here and there, but we have something to start with. I want all of you to put your best effort on this!

Just a few days before Fyter Fest...

Tony Khan.png How are you doing newbiez? Are you ready for the meeting for the Fyter Fest event?

newbiezness: Hey TK! Everything's under control. I want to thank you for the new exclusive contract for Penta El Zero Miedo. WWE made him an offer and that's the reason I asked you to move quickly to extend his contract. AAA aren't happy as they have lost one of their best wrestlers and a Tag Team champion, but we had no option. That's why we didn't have the AAA World Tag Team titles on the line in the Young Bucks vs Lucha Brothers match. We won't have an alliance anymore, but I see a positive point here which is that we will have to rely on our talent from the beginning. Rey Fenix has accepted a similar contract, just to be safe and avoid future problems and I made sure that Laredo Kid will still be available for Fyter Fest.

TK: Sounds good. Now I leave you with the team. Keep in touch.

newbiezness: Alright guys, what we've got?

Creative: Take a look. We put this together before Double Or Nothing, maybe some of the results should be updated...

(newbiezness takes a look at the paper)

fyterfest2019.png

newbieznes: I like the idea to have a match to advance to All Out for an opportunity at a first round bye in the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament, but this match is definitely not going to be in the Buy-In. And we are not having that CEO of a gaming company against Nakazawa, give him VIP tickets or talk to TK to solve that problem, we are not going to do such silly things in our second event, that's for sure. Janela isn't going to main event Fyter Fest and we won't need to use an unsanctioned match stipulation there. We have to work on many details, let's do it!

FYTER FEST 2019

THE BUY-IN:

Cherry Bomb as Allie (2).pngvst.pngLeva Bates (5).png

ALLIE vs LEVA BATES

In a match with not much story, that was more of an eye candy than anything, Allie was absolutely dominant from the beginning to the end of the match. When Leva was able to connect a couple of moves Allie regained the advantage very quickly. Allie pins Leva after a Death Allie Driver.

ALLIE def. LEVA BATES (Rating: 37, Time: 10:00)

MICHAEL NAKAZAWA vs KIP SABIAN (w/ Penelope Ford)

Nakazawa is waiting in the ring for his opponent, the announcing team say he is a CEO of a gaming company that is related to this event that had a match against Nakazawa in the past. Suddenly the music of Kip Sabian sounds and a confused Nakazawa keeps looking at the entrance without understanding anything of what is happening. A confident Kip Sabian and a smily Penelope Ford make their entrance! The match starts and Sabian takes the early advantage. Nakazawa's game plan isn't valid anymore. After a few minutes Nakazawa is able to put Sabian face down to perform some stretches that weaken Sabian and the match has equalized a little bit. When Sabian stands up everything changes and after a calf kick Nakazawa is down exhausted. Sabian waits patiently until Nakazawa is standing again and... Deathly Hallows! Sabian wins by pin.

PRIVATE PARTY (ISIAH KASSIDY & MARQ QUEN) vs BEST FRIENDS (CHUCK TAYLOR & TRENT) vs SCU (FRANKIE KAZARIAN & SCORPIO SKY w/ CHRISTOPHER DANIELS)

The winners of this Six Way Tag Team match will have an opportunity to have a shorter way in the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament to crown the first champions. Private Party is booed by the crowd, but they are putting a show early on this match with their fast-tempo and aerial maneuvers. SCU are hot after a brilliant performance in the Casino Battle Royal at Double or Nothing and the mix of Scorpio Sky's athleticism and Kazarian's experience (and even Christopher Daniels helping them with his guidance from the outside) stop Private Party's momentum in the match. Best Friends are clearly the weakest tag team in this match and are suffering both the fast pace of Private Party and the coordinated and perfectly executed team moves by SCU. After a bad landing for Isiah Kassidy, Frankie Kazarian does a reverse DDT to Chuck Taylor and seeks the 3 count while Scorpio Sky holds Trent.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs CIMA

Christopher Daniels doesn't even leave the ring after his teammates' win because he is in the next match. CIMA was eliminated by Christopher Daniels in the Casino Battle Royal match at Double or Nothing and wants nothing but revenge in this match. CIMA furiously attacks when the bell rings, mostly throwing kicks that surprise Christopher Daniels at first, but then he begins to protect better. CIMA tries to put press on him with his holds now as the match gets more technical, with both of them showing their great knowledge and experience.  Christopher Daniels is finally dominating CIMA as we pass the 15:00 minute mark, the crowd chants "Fallen Angel" and CIMA looks more and more exhausted. Fallen Angel has CIMA where he wanted now holding him standing with his arms chickenwinged to drop the Angel's Wing! 1, 2 and 3! After a difficult beginning this is a solid win for Christopher Daniels.

image.pngvst.pngimage.pngvst.pngimage.png

RIHO vs NYLA ROSE vs YUKA SAKAZAKI

Two top japanese wrestlers and the "Native Beast" in this Triple Threat match. Riho and Sakazaki form an early alliance to weaken Nyla Rose, but she looks unstoppable and in one of the spots of the night so far she even pick up both Riho and Sakazaki at the same time in a demonstration of how powerful she is. But Riho and Sakazaki are so quick and dynamic that as the time pass Nyla seems unable to stop them together. With a combined attack Riho and Sakazaki kick out of the ring a fatigued Nyla that is much slower at this phase of the match. Now this is between Riho and Sakazaki. Riho is lying down and the "Magical Girl" goes for her Splash, but Riho dodges it and is Sakazaki now that is face down. Riho picks up Sakazaki for a Northern Lights Suplex pinning her for the victory.

RIHO def. NYLA ROSE and YUKA SAKAZAKI (Rating: 29, Time: 10:00)

STB SoCal Uncensored2.jpgimage.pngimage.pngimage.png

S-C-U! The trio make their entrance, they have much to celebrate tonight and obviously Daytona Beach is the worst town they've ever been to! Christopher Daniels congratulates Kazarian and Scorpio Sky because they are now closer to win a first round bye in the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament. Kazarian says they can't wait to see Christopher Daniels become the first AEW World Champion.

You are beautiful on the insight, you are innocence personified, and I will drag you down and sell you out, run away...

image.png

Judas sounds in Ocean Center and Jericho is here! "Christopher, do you really think you are going to win? Against me? Are you taking drugs? You have a zero percent chance of winning. A negative one. And do you know why? Ah?" (The crowd boos loudly Jericho) "Listen to me you ungrateful people! You have no chance of winning because I'm the only reason this company exists, because I'm the reason this arena is sold out. When you and me are in Chicago at All Out anything this people say doesn't matter and I will become the greatest of all time!".

CODY RHODES vs DARBY ALLIN

Cody after winning against his brother at Double or Nothing looks for a second straight win. Darby has his first singles match in AEW. Darby starts surprising Cody with his energy and intensity and sends a clearly message that he is not going to be an easy opponent for Cody in this match. After they leave the ring, Darby climbs to the corner for a coffin drop and the crowd chants "holy shit", then grabs Cody and takes him back to the ring and after a Standing Diamond Dust he pins Cody for the 3 count. Cody 0-1 Darby. No one expected this to start the match. Cody puts some distance and leaves the ring again, Darby tries to jump over Cody again but he misses the target. This time Cody takes Darby back to the ring and when he witness the opportunity he goes for the Cross Rhodes. 1-1. The time is running out, only one minute left and both of them are lying on the ground. Darby stands up first and gets to the corner to climb to the top, the rope-hung coffin drop... but Cody is able to survive hitting Darby in the back with his legs. Darby is in real pain, he gave everything he had in that last maneuver. 10 seconds left! Cody crawls up on top of Darby for the pin and 1, 2, 3! The crowd goes wild and Cody won 2-1.

CODY RHODES def. DARBY ALLIN (Rating: 42, Time: 15:00)

MJF, SAMMY GUEVARA and DUSTIN RHODES vs JURASSIC EXPRESS (JUNGLE BOY, LUCHASAURUS and MARKO STUNT)

After the tensions between MJF and Jurassic Express that started in the Casino Battle Royal, Jurassic Express confronted MJF about him cheating to eliminate Jungle Boy in the match and finally MJF was destroyed by Jurassic Express and SCU in a segment at Double or Nothing. Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes will complete a trio to face Jurassic Express. The match seems even, until Guevara takes a metal lighter for someone in the crowd, as he did at Double or Nothing using it to hit Kip Sabian and win the match. This time he gives it to MJF who hides it. When MJF is the legal man and is facing Luchasaurus he takes him to the corner and use the lighter to hit him in the face when the referee couldn't see it. Luchasaurus struggles to keep fighting but in a true demonstration of strength and resilience he reach to his teammates. Now Jungle Boy is the legal man. MJF is going to use the lighter again, but this time Dustin Rhodes notices what is happening and removes the lighter from the hands of MJF. Jungle Boy sees MJF arguing with Dustin, who wants a fair win, and seizes the opportunity with a Superkick and pins MJF for the win.

THE ELITE (KENNY OMEGA, MATT JACKSON and NICK JACKSON) vs LUCHA BROTHERS (REY FÉNIX & PENTA EL ZERO MIEDO) & LAREDO KID

For the first time in AEW, Kenny Omega join The Young Bucks to fight as The Elite. Laredo Kid will help his fellow mexican friends. The match is wild from the beginning, almost difficult to keep track of what is happening because of the high rhythm of the action. The quality of the match leads the crowd to chant "this is awesome". Laredo Kid only increases the number of high flying moves and spots that we already saw in The Young Bucks vs Lucha Brothers match at Double or Nothing. Penta holds Nick Jackson and Rey Fénix jumps from the corner, but Matt Jackson stops him before the landing with a Superkick. After Laredo Kid becomes legal and The Young Bucks clean Lucha Brothers from the ring, Kenny Omega does the One Winged Angle and pins Laredo Kid for the victory.

Dean Ambrose as Jon Moxley.pngvst.pngimage.png

JON MOXLEY vs HANGMAN PAGE

Jon Moxley's first match in AEW. Page seems to be in good condition and his injury is in the past now. But Mox is on fire and nothing can stop him. This looks like a squash and nobody thinks Hangman is going to last long. Mox is beating up Hangman badly. After a few minutes Moxley does the Paradigm Shift and 1, 2... Wait! Just 2! Hangman is still in the match after a Paradigm Shift! Moxley looks in disbelief to Hangman. Moxley takes Hangman off the ring and throws him against the barricade three times, then against the ring post. Hangman is bleeding from the forehead. Moxley takes him back to the ring and punches him until Hangman falls to the ground. Moxley goes for another Paradigm Shift, but Hangman reverses it and hits Moxley with the elbow. After an attempted comeback by Hangman that excites the crowd, Moxley connects a few blows and... Paradigm Shift! This time Hangman couldn't do anything. This is over, Moxley pins Hangman for his first win in AEW.

Captura de pantalla 2023-05-09 a las 17.06.51.png

Tony Khan.png What's the problem newbiez?

newbiezness: Am I getting into much trouble with the VPs if I move that Brandi Rhodes match to the Buy-In?

Tony Khan: She wants to have a match, it's something personal. But I promised you will always have the last word. I will manage anything related with the VPs.

newbiezness: She will have a match, but it won't be like that. As you know I cancelled the whole Dark Order angle, so that won't happen either. Thank you Tony, I have work to do!

Liking this so far. Early AEW makes me nostalgic, and I like the changes you've made so far. MJF taking a PPV loss like that surprised me, so I'm curious to see what happens there.

Thank you very much. The same happens to me, when I was booking DoN 2019 a lot of good memories came to me. I'm going to continue with the mix of matches and stories that are very similar with the real ones and others that are completely different.

FIGHT FOR THE FALLEN 2019

THE BUY IN:

Riho (3).pngBritt Baker (2).pngvst.pngHikaru Shida (2).pngBea Priestley (6).png

RIHO & DR. BRITT BAKER D.M.D. vs HIKARU SHIDA & BEA PRIESTLEY

Riho and Hikaru Shida begin the match. Shida connect an Enzuiguiri in the first minute and then grabs Riho to take this match to a physical one. Shida picks up Riho for a Cradle Back-to-Belly Piledriver but Riho reverses and starts to move more and puts some distance while throwing a few kicks. Britt becomes legal and so does Priestley. Now Priestley is in the corner and Britt runs towards her, but misses the target and crashes into the post. Riho asks for the tag, but Britt refuses, while Shida becomes legal and starts to punish Britt. There is no chemistry between Riho and the D.M.D. One more tag and now Priestley is in the match and quickly powerslams Britt, who is in problems. Tony Khan.png Hey, have you seen the news?

newbiezness: I've been working all day on the first Dynamite episode. What happens?

Tony Khan: WWE announced they have moved NXT from their network to USA Network on Wednesdays! TNT called me. They are worried about the ratings and Kenny Omega being injured for the next two months doesn't help.

newbiezness: I'm not going to lie here. This is going to be a hard start. Kenny Omega is very important for us. Many of our wrestlers have potential but aren't ready for national TV. But I hope we will make it.

Tony Khan: We have no option, our contract with TNT demands that Dynamite ratings must be over 52. They could cancel the show if we don't make it.

PAC is using the pain he inflicted on Moxley before the match to dominate the first minutes. They leave the ring continuously to brawl around it.
