Osaka, Japan - Founded by Japanese legend Sadaharo Jimbo in 1996, PGHW had a meteoric rise to prominence thanks to the amazing matches that the 'golden generation' wrestlers like Mito Miwa, Nobuatso Tatsuko, Yoshimi Mushashibo, Eisaku Hoshino and Shuji Inukai pumped out on a monthly basis for over a decade. The intense style that made the matches so watchable proved to be a double-edged sword though, as their stars fell away to injury one by one, decimating the main event scene. Jimbo retired in 2014 and handed over power to his protege Nobuatsu Tatsuko, who was left with the headache of trying to reverse the company's steep decline with few recognised stars. To his credit, his 'slow and steady' approach has paid off, as a new generation of stars have been established and business has picked up. PGHW appear to have turned the corner and are on the rise once more.

Nobuatsu Tatsuko has successfully navigated Pride Glory Honor Wrestling through a tumultuous period.

Just two years after taking over the promotion from Sadaharu Jimbo in 2014, Tatsuko led PGHW through a terrible tsunami that devastated Japan, its economy, and its wrestling scene. At the same time, PGHW had a cast of aging stars that were ready to cycled down, but the tsunami forced them to stay on top as a way to draw ever-decreasing houses. However, Tatsuko's leadership, alongside the likes of Yoshimi Mushashibo, Danger Kumasaka, Eisaku Hoshino, and Eisaku Kunomasu, forged a slow-and-steady path that has seen a host of new stars emerge. Heading into 2022, PGHW is as strong as its been in over a decade. The Golden Generation has been allowed to ride off into the sunset, handing the reigns to the next generation, which has been dubbed the Royal Generation.

The rest of the puroresu scene is a state of flux. For the time in this century, there is no clear number one promotion; Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods has continued its downward trend that began with the 2016 tsunami. Like PGHW, the disaster was paired with an aging main event crew, but unlike PGHW, BHOTWG has struggled to build the next generation. PGHW is rising with the philosophy that incremental growth is the best approach. World Level Wrestling has not fully recovered from the Yakuza scandal that nearly sank the ship in 2018, and while BCG, SAISHO and EX2010 are solid promotions with dedicated fans, they are currently too localized to break through nationally. That could change in coming years, as each company has loyal talent that are ready and willing to be the faces of expansion.

Smelling blood in the water, Nobuatsu Tatsuko has made decisions aiming at capitalizing on the state of the industry. PGHW's schedule has been slightly modified, with the new schedule featuring twelve tours, with four "end" points for tours. Each individual tour will have three small shows, ending with a major televised event.

PGHW POWER Series
PGHW SUCCESS Series
PGHW Night of HONOR
PGHW IMPACT Series
PGHW ELITE Tag Team Series

Additionally, due to the renewed interest in PGHW internationally, Tatsuko announced plans to take further advantage of the great partnerships with Total Championship Wrestling in the United States and Victory Wrestling Association in Switzerland. He also announced that PGHW would see competitors from Australian Pro Wrestling battling in Japan soon.

With all of this positivity, it is worth mentioning that not all is perfect in Osaka. PGHW's persistent money issues are still there,  and the company is still a few bad houses away from real trouble. Tatsuko has been diligent in running a tight ship, and 2022 will likely be no different.

PGHW RESPECT SERIES PREVIEW

PGHW Night of WRESTLING was capped off with two incredible title matches: Kozue Kawashima retained the Glory Crown with a win over Seiji Jimbo, and BISON Yano & BRUTE Kikuchi retained the Glory Tag Crown over Bussho Makaguchi & Chojiro Kitoaji. Heading into the new year, no championship is safe. Jimbo's quest to regain the Glory Crown is unfinished, and Yano & Kikuchi have already been challenged by Ryoma Muruyama & Masaru Ugaki for the RESPECT Series finale.

Muruyama & Ugaki are one of the most decorated tag teams in PGHW's twenty-six year history, with one International Tag Team title win, three ELITE Tag Team Series victories and three Glory Tag Crown reigns under their belts. In addition, Muruyama also has one International title reign, and Ugaki is two-time Glory Crown champion. These are dangerous men in a dangerous tag team division. The champions' 250-plus day reign may end come January 23.

With his loss to Kawashima at Night of WRESTLING, Seiji Jimbo must climb the ladder to earn another title shot. The beginning of 2022 will surely see the former champion focused like never before.

After his victory on the last show, Avalanche Takano was challenged by longtime PGHW mainstay William Hayes for a shot at his International belt. Hayes is a three-time holder of that title himself, with the last coming in 2018. Takano has been pegged by many within the industry as a future star, and a win over such a respected, decorated veteran would be a big step in his career. On the other hand, a victory for Hayes will show the previous generation is not ready to give up the spotlight to the Royal Generation quite yet.

Victory Wrestling Association's Cub Balowicz will return for another tour, and will be joined by fellow VWA wrestler Pavel Vanzycha for his first tour of Japan.

Fans can expect more matches to be announced over the course of the tour.

PGHW PROFILE: AVALANCHE TAKANO

Keiji "Avalanche" Takano is the reigning PGHW International Champion.

Graduating from the PGHW Dojo in 2013, Takano made his pro debut for Pro Wrestling SAISHO in October of the same year. He was widely considered a fast learner, and one to keep an eye on. Just five months later, he won the SAISHO Ride The Tiger title from SATO, giving him the proverbial jet pack to the top of the card. Just a year later, PGHW brought him up to their roster, where he worked openers for a year to further season him. He was then sent on excursion to Invincible Pro Wrestling in Los Angeles, California where he stayed for a year and a half before returning to Japan in 2017.

Back in PGHW, Takano was originally directionless, working undercard tags for another year. However, this period turned into a blessing in disguise for him, as he ended up developing a respectful rivalry with PGHW veteran and Historical Japan champion Stone Yoshikawa. This culminated in October 2018, when he defeated Yoshikawa for the belt. He then transitioned into a feud with his former SAISHO rival SATO, leading to SATO taking the title from him in April 2019. They feuded again through the summer, but it would take until September before Takano would earn a rematch for the Historical Japan championship. In a well-built match that actually main evented and drew a sizable crowd in Kyoto, Takano defeated SATO to regain the championship.

After dropping the Historical Japan title to Nobuyo Hikichi in December 2020, Takano moved up to the next title scene: the International championship. After a failed attempt at taking the belt from Tetsunori Yasuda in February 2021, he earned another shot in August, this time against new champion Hirotsugu Satou. And it was on this second try that Takano came out on top.

Heading into 2022, Avalanche Takano is universally seen as someone who could be main eventing PGHW events for the Glory Crown in just a couple years. His natural progression through his career, not to mention his popular finisher called the Space Mountain Takano (Avalanche Crucifix Bomb), has earned him a lot of goodwill among the PGHW faithful, and he was successfully leveraged this crowd support into title contention on a constant basis for over three years.

PGHW RESPECT SERIES 2024 REVIEW

The Glory Tag Crown challengers have the momentum heading into the title match, due to Ryoma Muruyama scoring a pinfall on reigning Glory Tag Crown champion BISON Yano. Ryoma Muruyama & Masaru Ugaki are three-time Glory Tag Crown holders, one-time International Tag Team champions and three time winners of the ELITE Tag Team Series. Ugaki is also a winner of the singles version of the ELITE Series along with being a two-time Glory Crown champion. Both men are PGHW legends aiming to once again reign on top of the company.

Seiji Jimbo's quest for a rematch with Glory Crown champion Kozue Kawashima continued, with the two on opposing sides each night of the tour. Jimbo went after Kawashima whenever he was in the ring, and cared more about attacking the champion than working with his team to win the matches. There is a new edge to Jimbo, one that will either end with another title reign or disaster.

A singles match for the RESPECT Series finale was made between Magnum KOBE and Danny Cavanagh after the two took themselves out of the night one match by brawling around the ringside area, and even ignored the match altogether, allowing Dean Waldorf to get the pin on Hirobumi Takimoto. They had to be physically separated by the trainees at ringside.

In other news from the tour, Shinji Mihara continued to get strong reactions, as his connection with the PGHW crowd grows stronger and stronger every time he steps in the ring. William Hayes also scored a pinfall over International champion Avalanche Takano ahead of their title match. The touring duo of Pavel Vanzycha & Cub Balowicz received a mixed reception from the crowds, while their work in the ring was also mixed.

PGHW RESPECT SERIES FINALE 2024

PGHW's RESPECT Series finale ended with new champions, as Ryoma Muruyama & Masaru Ugaki defeated BISON Yano & BRUTE Kikuchi to win the Glory Tag Crown. It was a memorable match, not just for the victors, but also for Kikuchi breaking his forearm halfway through and finishing the match. The injury played into the finish, with Ugaki putting him in the Ugaki Clutch and wrenching on the broken arm.

That wasn’t the end of the night for the new champs. During their post-match promo, they invited SATO and Historical Japan titleholder Nobuyo Hikichi to the ring. Muruyama asked the duo to join them in a new faction, which was revealed after the show to be named xDREAM. The two accepted, and the four posed as the show ended.

In the other two title matches, Avalanche Takano retained the PGHW International title over William Hayes, and Nobuyo Hikichi beat Yuri Yoshihara to notch his fifth defense of the Historical Japan title. The six-man match third from the top was another newsworthy match, as Chojiro Kitoaji pinned Noriyori Sanda to score the win for his team. This enraged Seiji Jimbo, whose quest for a rematch with Glory Crown champion Kozue Kawashima suffered another setback. In the post-show press conference, it was announced that Chojiro Kitoaji and Seiji Jimbo would face off at the DESTINY Series finale in a number one contendership match, with the victor moving on to Night of PRIDE to face Kawashima for the Glory Crown.
