Welcome... to the Coastal Zone!

Recommended Posts

Where we're slowly learning all the things that've changes since 2k5: Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Workers changing styles, events changing importance, touring schedules, this is all good stuff. You'll forgive me if I forgo the 'overseas report', but with PGHW and WLW ending their tours, we don't have a whole lot of people with other commitments. CZCW.COM NEWSFLASH It's tournament time! The Fly Boys have noted that there's only three other tag teams in the Zone right now, so there's going to be a Tidal Round-Robin tournament with the highest-scoring team getting a title shot at Bash at the Beach. There's also going to be a tournament to see who will be Fox Mask's next challenger. Both tournaments will be spread out over the next four weeks. June, 2007. Week 1, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. --Opening match: Tidal Tournament: Flyin' Jimmy Foxx def. Jesse Gilbert in eight minutes (D-) --Tidal Tournament: Snap Dragon def. Joe Gilbert in seven minutes (D+). Alicia Strong explains her actions at Surf Slam by saying she knows she's going to win the tournament for a rematch... so it's best to keep Fox off guard until then (D). --Championship Tournament: Masked Cougar def. "Leaping Lumberjack" Cal Sanders in ten minutes (D-) Ultimate Phoenix reminds Alicia that before she worries about Fox, she needs to worry about him, tonight (D-) --Championship Tournament: Plague def. "Speedball" Marc Speed in thirteen minutes (D+). --Tidal Tournament: AF1 def. Gilbert Brothers in nine minutes (D). --Main Event: Championship Tournament: Alicia Strong def. Ultimate Phoenix in nineteen minutes (D+). Final rating: D. Y'know, I was really hoping we would pull at least a C- out of one of those matches. Tidal Tournament: AF1: 3-0, Gilberts 0-3, X-Factor 0-0. Championship Tournament: Strong, Cougar, Plague in. Speedball, Sanders, Phoenix out. Attendance was up quite a bit since Surf Slam, so that was a good thing. But the shorter Tidal matches wasn't resulting in cheaper shows... but the next three, which don't have Alicia on any of them, should wind up being much cheaper. On the next Coastal Zone: The Tidal Tournament continues as X-Factor meets AF1. Plus, a decision that may affect the Zone on a deep level.

More nautical puns than a military-themed submarine comedy starring Frasier Crane. Welcome to the Coastal Zone! In an effort to save some money... or rather, make some... we were giving the Internet a hearty "screw you" for a couple months and selling our shows on DVD. If it made a difference, we'd keep doing it... otherwise, we might just throw the footage in a vault and save it for a few years. And as happens from time to time, overseas commitments were screwing up our booking plan... AF1 will not be appearing tonight... Snap Dragon's busy... June, 2007. Week 2, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. It's a special all-wrestling, no-angle edition of the Coastal Zone! --Championship Tournament: Steve Flash def. Flyin' Jimmy Foxx in twelve minutes (D). --Tidal Tournament: Ben Williams def. Joe Gilbert via Citizen X-ference (E+) --Tidal Tournament: Jesse Gilbert def. Mark Smart after Joe-ference (D+) --Championship Tournament: Roderick Remus def. Randy Matravers in twelve minutes (E+). --Tidal Tournament: X-Factor def. Gilbert Brothers by DQ, illegal use of hockey sticks (E). --Main Event Championship Tournament: Insane Mchine def. Remmy Skye in twenty-four minutes (C-). Show rating: D-. We pull off a C- match in the main event for the first time in a while, but too many other stinkers brought it down. Partially because we'd been training the audience to expect angles, and had none. Oh, well. Tidal Tournament: AF1: 3-0, Gilberts 1-5, X-Factor 2-1. Championship Tournament: Strong, Cougar, Plague, Machine, Remus, Flash in. Speedball, Sanders, Phoenix, Matravers, Skye, Foxx out. Remaining: Weasel, Citizen X, Moose, the new guy. Note to self, if you've deliberately gotten your audience used to having angles, so you can use them without complaints, don't get mad when the audience complains you don't use them. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: One more round in the Tidal Tag Tournament; two more qualifying matches and a quarter-final main event in the Championship Tournament as Alicia Strong faces Plague!

Dropped to the second page again... this is what happens when people get so used to me posting a dozen times a day and then I hafta drop back to one or two... Welcome to the Coastal Zone. I know you're out there... I can hear ya readin'! No news of note this week. June, 2007. Week 3, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. We open with Alicia promising Plague that he's just a bump in the road, and she's a muscle car (D). --Tidal Tournament: Mark Smart def. Snap Dragon in eight minutes due to Citizen X interfering (C-). --Tidal Tournament: Flyin' Jimmy Foxx def. Ben Williams in six minutes when Snap Dragon takes out Citizen X in revenge and distracts Williams (E+). --Championship Tournament: Air Attack Weasel def. newcomer Andre Gorman in thirteen minutes (E+). --Championship Tournament: Jeremiah Moose def. Citizen X in thirteen minutes when Air Force One pulls the run-in for revenge (D-). Afterwards, Jeremiah Moose celebrates his luck as X-Factor shows up to run AF1 out of the ring (E-) --Tidal Tournament: AF1 def. X-Factor in ten minutes when Mark Smart got DQed after the fighting between the two sides got highly out of control (D). --Championship Tournament: Alicia Strong def. Plague in eighteen minutes (C-). Afterwards, Alicia told Fox that she was coming back for him, and would give him a night he would never forget (D). Show rating: D+. We probably would've hit the C- range if not for those three E matches in the middle. Flyin' Jimmy arrived late again... we'd give him another warning, after that, there'd be hell to pay. We have a three-strikes policy. On the third strike... you get two more strikes... but what we were really worried about was the attendance. We had suddenly dropped to the point where the Snake Pit was only as profitable as the tiniest venues. That didn't bode well for Bash at the Beach. Tidal Tournament: AF1: 5-1, Gilberts 1-5, X-Factor 3-3. Championship Tournament: Strong in. Remaining to qualify: Cougar, Plague, Machine, Remus, Flash, Moose. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Six men will enter, three will leave to join Alicia Strong in the semifinals of the Championship Tournament. And the Tidal Tag Tournament seems done... or is it?

See, Plague is money :) And to think, if you had been pushin him like Strong (for less money) you'd be doing just as well, or better. Nah, I kid, I kid. Love this diary, although I don't think (unless trying) you would go bankrupt with CZCW as they start out with what, like 450 000 this time around?

Where nothing is as it seems... well, except our booking. That's fairly obvious to everyone. Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Another slow week. For the record, we're not worried about going bankrupt... we'll be fired if we drop below $116,000 or so. And of course, we've got a year and a half to get back -up- to $450,000... this could be tricky. June, 2007. Week 4, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. --Tidal Tag Tournament Three-Way Tag: X-Factor def. AF1 and the Gilbert Brothers in sixteen minutes (D-). The announcement comes out that the tournament is over, and the winners of the title shot are Air Force One (E). --Championship Tournament: Jeremiah Moose def. Air Attack Weasel in nineteen minutes (D). The rookie is on a roll! --Championship Tournament: Roderick Remus def. Masked Cougar in sixteen minutes (C-). Was the Xtreme Title just a stepping stone? It's announced that the semi-finals at Bash at the Beach will be Remus vs Stone and Moose vs the winner of the next match, and whoever wins those two will face each other for the right to face Fox Mask that very night. To be fair, Fox will have a 'warm-up match' that night as well (E+). --Championship Tournament Main Event: Steve Flash def. Insane Machine via unseen use of chair in twenty-one minutes (C-). Show rating: C-, baby! We pulled two excellent (well, for us) matches off, attendance was up to begin with, Bash at the Beach should be a blowout! And then, two days before the big show... Citizen X gets a contract offer from DAVE. We could only hope they weren't offering written contracts. On the next Coastal Zone: Bash at the Beach! AF1 vs Flyboys! Skye vs Pratt! And the championship tournament ends!

Man, the 2007 feds are HARD. I've been crunching the numbers on DaVE and I honestly don't know if it can be done, but hey, that makes for good diaries. Was it you who got fired in your last manifestation as a 2k5er? Either way, good to see the triumphant return of the Coastal Zone.

Welcome to CZCW Battle at the Beach! July 2007, Week 1, Monday Live from the... WHADDYA MEAN, REMMY SKYE'S WORKING SOMEWHERE ELSE TONIGHT????? Ahem. Afterwards, the Fly Boys taunt X-Factor, saying that they would've met the same fate (D+). --Tournament Semifinal: Steve Flash def. Jeremiah Moose in seven minutes after teaching the rookie some new ways to cheat to win (D+). Earlier Tonight, Alicia finds Fox and tries to play some female mind games with him, alternating between trying to get him to play nice and trying to scare him (D+). --Tournament Semifinal: Alicia Stone def. Roderick Remus in twelve minutes (D+). --Non-Title Match: Fox Mask def. Alicia Strong in eighteen minutes (C-). Show rating: D+. What? Three D+s, two C-s, and a C, and we still get a D+? Dangit.

Refusing to push Plague since TEW2k5: Welcome to the Coastal Zone! It turns out the reason Remmy Skye had deserted us was his new DAVE PPA contract. He'd passed up a chance to job to Calamari Kid in favor of a chance to job to Teddy Powell on PPV. Well... okay, I can see his point there. Based on his recommendation, Citizen X would sigh with DAVE shortly afterwards. Financially, June had been excellent for us, with our lowest loss yet... under seven grand. At this rate, we'd be turning a profit by the end of the year, easily. But with one more major show left in the year (August's Wave of Fury), we were going to have to get some good build going to survive the long drought of major-event-free time. July 2007. Week 1, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. We open with Fox Mask and Alicia Strong doing dueling promos, ending with Fox telling her that in the Zone, you win if you deserve to... and it's time she gave other people a shot, so tonight, he'd take on "Speedball" Marc Speed (C-). --Roderick Remus def. Joe Gilbert in thirteen minutes (D-). --Insane Machine def. Jesse Gilbert in twelve minutes (D+). Citizen X cut a promo about his DAVE contract, and how tonight, the Zone would have a DAVE match, him vs Remmy Skye (D-). --Citizen X def. Remmy Skye in twenty-one minutes (C-). --Main Event Championship Match: Fox Mask(c) def. "Speedball" Marc Speed in twenty-two minutes (D). After the match, out comes Steve Flash with a surprise beatdown, saying that he should have won the tournament, and he deserves a title shot (E+). Show rating: D+. Not a C-, but not a D either. We'll take it! On the next Coastal Zone: A beaten-down champ. A woman scorned. A big name falling. A new name rising. A team in synch, and a team falling apart.

Where the big feds go shopping for new talent... and trade in their old guys from time to time. Welcome to the Coastal Zone! So, Alicia Strong had decided that 5SSW was offering her more money than our 'exclusive' PPA contract and decided to go tour with them. We'd get one more show out of her. Boy, Sam was gonna -hate- us for the next show, wasn't he? In the meantime, we'd signed someone else... but they were green as the Grinch, so we put a masked on him so the Masked Man could get some experience.... and he'd get injured three days later, with a Distended Anus. The Coastal Zone has a strict "Don't ask, dear lord don't tell us about it" policy when it comes to these injuries. July, 2007. Week 2, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. --The Gilbert Brothers def. Air Force One by DQ in fifteen minutes when Flyin' Jimmy Foxx hit one of them with their own hockey stick (D+). Afterwards, Foxx and Snap Dragon got into an arguement... and the hockey stick gets used on Dragon, too! (E+). --Insane Machine def. Alicia Strong in fourteen minutes (C-). --Roderick Remus def. Masked Man in fourteen minutes (D-). Alicia Strong comes back out, mad as hell, and challenged Fox to put the title on the line one more time... and if she loses, everyone can have their shot, because she'll leave (D). --Main Event Championship Ladder Match: Fox Mask(c) def. Alicia Strong in twenty-six minutes (C-). Fox leads the crowd in "Sha-na-na-na, hey-hey-hey, Good-bye" afterwards (D+). Show Rating: D+. And the undercard for Wave of Fury begins to shape up a bit, as CZCW.COM announces Steve Flash vs Fox Mask, and Sam Pratt, Insane Machine, and Roderick Remus in a three-way ladder match for the Xtreme Title.

I think we got a lemon. Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Masked Man was proving to be very injury-prone, as he was now suffering from Dehli Belly. We were starting to get a bad feeling about this one. Still, that's just one small, relatively cheap cog in the machine, and we had a show to plan. We penciled in two more matches for Wave of Fury, and got ready to lay the groundwork tonight. July, 2007. Week 3, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. --X-Factor (Williams & Smart) def. The Gilbert Brothers in sixteen minutes (E). Afterwards, it's announced that this was a #1 Contendership match (E+). Snap Dragon cuts a promo on his apparently now-ex-partner, Jimmy Foxx (E). --Snap Dragon def. Masked Cougar in eleven minutes (D+). Afterwards, Jimmy Foxx comes down to beat on Dragon (E-). --Ultimate Phoenix defeated Andre Gorman in thirteen minutes (D). Hey, I needed a cheap time-filler. Sam "Calamari Kid" Pratt cuts a promo on Machine and Remus, saying that it doesn't matter who used to hold the title... what matters is who holds it now. (D-). --Xtreme Title Match: Sam Pratt def. Jeremiah Moose in sixteen minutes (D). Fox Mask takes a moment to tell Steve Flash, wherever he is, that he'll never get the Coastal Zone title away from him, because this is the Zone, and in the Zone... the Fox hunts -you-. (C-). --Fox Mask and Flyin' Jimmy Foxx go to a no-contest when Snap Dragon shows up, Fox shrugs and the ref sighs because he knows the match isn't going to happen anyway (D). Show rating: D-. Not a single good match (although Dragon/Cougar got close) and only a single decent promo... possibly one of the worst shows in recent memory. At least there's always Next Time, On The Coastal Zone: With four matches set for Wave of Fury, what else will we do to fill up the time? Will Steve Flash show up at the last show before WoF? And can we hope to keep attendance up if we keep putting on shows like this?

Where we get REALLY MAD AT THE OWNER SOMETIMES. Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Our favorite rookie, Jeremiah Moose, had one month left on his contract. So naturally, we were ready to give him a raise... but then Cliff showed up and said, "Nope. I told you, no hiring or retaining anyone with a drug problem." I didn't realize Jeremiah -had- a drug problem. "Cliff, next time... tell me who is and isn't a stoner -before- I try to push them, okay???" Argh. July, 2007. Week 4, Thursday Welcome to the Coastal Zone Live from the Snake Pit. --Randy Matravers def. Masked Man in eight minutes (E+). --Insane Machine def. Jeremiah Moose in thirteen minutes (D+). Machine then cuts a promo hying the triangle ladder match (E+). --Citizen X def. Andre Gorman in six minutes (D-). X then makes an open challenge for Wave of Fury (D). --Roderick Remus def. Remmy Skye in seventeen minutes (C-). Remus then continues to hype the ladder match (E+). --Huge Six-Man Main Event: The Flyboys and Flyin' Jimmy Foxx def. X-Factor and Snap Dragon in twenty-three minutes, Foxx pinned Williams (D-). Final rating: D. Well, it's an improvement.

Welcome to CZCW Wave of Fury! August 2007, Week 1, Monday Live from the Sold Out Snake Pit A few announcements before we begin tonight's show. First, notice the lack of recent DVDs at the merchandice table. We're going back online, folks. Thank you. Yes. One more announcement. Citizen X will not be here tonight. As nobody had accepted his open challenge, he asked DAVE for a match and, well, I'm sure you'll catch it when you get back home. Now, on with the show! --Six-Man Elimination Match for a Title Shot of Your Choice: Masked Cougar def. Jeremiah Moose, Marc Speed, Plague, Ultimate Phoenix, and Air Attack Weasel. (C-). --Tidal Tag Titles match: The Fly Boys(c) def. X-Factor in sixteen minutes (E+). --Triple-Threat Ladder Xtreme Title Match: Sam Pratt def. Insane Machine and Roderick Remus in twenty-two minutes (D+). --Flyin' Jimmy Foxx and Snap Dragon go to a double-DQ at fifteen minutes as they work way too many weapons into their flying and Pee-Wee (our ref) fails to get them to stop (C??????!!!!!!) Fox Mask cuts a promo on Steve Flash (D-). --Main Event Coastal Zone Champsionship Match: Fox Mask(c) def. Steve Flash in twenty-four minutes (C-). Final rating: D+? We pull out two C- matches, a C match, and only get a D+??? C'mon, people, what do you want from us????
