They signed a great junior in Naoki Sano, and they also added Katsuyori Shibata to their roster. These signings are just the latest in the recent AJPW spending spree, trying to make themselves the number one promotion in Japan. TNA Destination X Tonight TNA's Destination X will be held tonight, and it figures to be a historic night, as Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles will do battle for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in an Ultimate X match, the brain child of AJ Styles. Styles has to have the advantage going into this historic match because of his Ultimate X experience. This marks the first time the NWA World Heavyweight Championship will hang from the Ultimate X cables.
Lethal used his speed and technical prowess to catch Roode off guard, and it looked like he was going to put the match away at numerous junctures. Lethal was about to hit the Lethal Injection, when Ms. Brooks got his attention on the ring apron. Lethal walked over to see what she was doing, and he was hit with the Northern Lariat from behind, and pinned for a tough loss. The lights then dim in the Impact Zone, and the logo fades out, and then a video plays, showing the history of the Ultimate X Match, and then it shows the history between Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles. The fans cheer very loudly, knowing that they are going to see a great main event tonight. He didn’t show any signs of ring rust in this match, and he put on an offensive exhibition against Christopher Daniels for the first five minutes. Daniels eventually used his technical abilities to turn the tide of the match. This didn’t last long though as Killings got the fans back on his side and used this momentum to hit Daniels with a flurry of moves. Daniels turned the tide one last time though on a missed Axe Kick, then hit the Angel’s Wings on Killings, and got the big win. BG and Kip James used their experience to stop this offensive output from the young duo. They were about to put Alex Shelley away, but Starr distracted the referee, allowing a low blow from Starr on Kip James, and he then threw him out of the ring. Starr got tagged in, and BG James entered the ring. Shelley and Starr took BG out of the ring, and when Kip reentered, he was kicked in the gut, and Starr lifted him up for the brainbuster, but held him as Shelley went up top, and they hit a Spike Brainbuster, and got the impressive victory. Winners: Starr and Shelley Time: 9:53 Match Grade: C Samoa Joe then appears backstage, and he has something to say to his two opponents in the Ultimate X match tonight. Samoa Joe [I]Tonight is the night that I fulfill my destiny, tonight is the night I become NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Senshi continued his martial arts attacks on him, and Sabin was sent reeling. Before they can really get going, Storm and Harris re-enter the ring and start fighting. Steiner and Rhino then stand on the apron and let them go at it. Storm and Steiner isolated Harris for awhile, until he got the hot tag in to Rhino, who came in and cleaned house. After he dominated for awhile he let Harris back in. Jarrett looked for anyway he could to get out of the ring, but Angle drug him back in every time and hit him with another move. Jarrett caught a cheap shot with a rake of Angle’s eyes and got the upper hand, finally getting some offense in. Back in the day they were two bad men, but that was a long time ago. It is past their time, and LAX is the tag team of the present, and they’ll be holding on to their titles for a long time to come. Hernandez used his brute strength to reverse one of Team 3D’s moves, and put LAX back on top. They used their teamwork to keep Team 3D down for awhile, but they got the advantage back in a short time. They threw Hernandez out of the ring, then went for the 3D on Homicide, but Konnan hit Brother Ray in the back with the flapjack, forcing Brother Devon to investigate the situation, which allowed Homicide to hit a cutter on Devon from behind. The three men went back to fighting, with Joe choking Cage out, and then taking Styles out to the apron, where he gave him a Muscle Buster off the apron onto the floor. The show only got a 1.08 buyrate, which is nearly three times as low as Against All Odds. This has forced the pay-per-view providers to get all over TNA's case about buyrates. Another thing they were upset with was the fact that they did not even sell out the Impact Zone for the pay-per-view, which caused TNA Management to announce today that they are moving their pay-per-view site from Universal Studios to UCF Arena in Orlando, which can hold more people for the pay-per-views. Impact will still be held in it's current location. The third thing they were upset with was the Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett matchup. TNA had this slated for a long feud, but the two looked horrible together, so it is a real possibility that the feud will have the plug pulled on it early.
The highlights were CM Punk beating Rob Conway, Melina and Mickie James fighting to a no contest over the Women's Championship, Umaga defending his Intercontinental Title against Robbie McAllister, and Ric Flair defeating Randy Orton in the main event of the evening. The show's rating dropped more than half a point, to a 32.55. TNA and CMLL Strike A Deal Today TNA and CMLL announced that they have inked a deal where they will be working together in the wrestling world. They now have a gateway to trade workers for a certain number of shows, and it will most likely improve both products drastically. JAPW Grows in Size Jersey All Pro Wrestling held another good show last night, highlighted by Brother Runt defending his title against Sonjay Dutt. This show put JAPW over the edge, and they can now be considered a regional promotion. They are looking to hire more names now to fill the slots needed for that sized promotion.
The show saw some very good action, with the highlights being Undertaker defeating Rob Van Dam, and Bobby Lashley defending his ECW World Heavyweight Championship against Shawn Michaels. Many fans are now considering ECW as WWE flagship show, due to the star power they have on every week, and since they only have an hour, they don't have to show lower card matches. TNA and CMLL Make Talent Trade TNA and CMLL wasted no time in trading talent, as the first day of their agreement, a trade has been made. All that is known now is that Kurt Angle will be appearing for CMLL in the coming weeks. What I am saying is, at Lockdown, I’m challenging Christian Cage for a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. No triple threat matches, just me and you, inside the six sides of steel. Christian Cage [I]Very impressive Joe, and equally unimpressive from Tomko there. Tomko, we’ve known each other for a long time bro, but I think it’s time to cut you loose, so after that little showing, your services are no longer needed in the Christian Coalition, so you can hit the bricks big boy. Now onto this little challenge from Samoa Joe. Joe, I thought I showed you why I am the champion Sunday at Destination X, but I guess you want a refresher course in it. So, from UCF Arena here in Orlando, at TNA Lockdown, you filthy bums are going to get to see me, Christian Cage, whip that fat boys butt up and down God’s green Earth, and walk out of that cage still NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Fans are noticably less interested in him, and his matches have not been up to par with the way he performed in WWE. TNA has placed him in a program with A.J. Styles yet again, since their short 3 week program last month worked wonderfully. This is set to be a long, heated feud that will carry over from their short one last month, and TNA hopes to get Angle's edge back, and hope some of that rubs off on A.J. Styles.
Kurt Angle Wrestles In CMLL As a part of TNA and CMLL's recent talent trade, Kurt Angle could be used by CMLL for one show, and they used it last night, and he put on a great match. TNA would love to see this match in a TNA ring, but that is not possible as long as Mistico holds his title.
Two of the matches that stole the show were Chris Benoit defending his US Title against Gregory Helms and Jeff Hardy defeating Rob Van Dam. TNA has decided to give him one more chance, and let him off with a hefty fine, but did not fire him.
