  1. <p><strong>WPL, January 1 2019</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong>* Our third year of operations was the first to see major changes in the roster. American Elemental II and Power Girl were the first new arrivals, both agreeing to work in the $350 range when I was desperate for anyone who'd work for less than $500. Newgens Austin Ambrose (using one of the Hillbillies' pics) and Clyde Cope (Nathan Coleman) followed, along with fellow youngsters Texas Hangman, Seth Whitehead and Dustin Deuce, and all of these guys work for $220 or less - mostly because they don't perform to a standard that deserves better. WPL now has 13 wrestlers on its books...</p><p> </p><p> * ...for a time, as Lily Snyder is set to walk in January. A good performer with a D average this year, Snyder was the first WPL champion (even if she did drop the belt to me in her first defence). A bad run of form in 18/19 soured her mood backstage, however, and while she didn't let it affect her work she cause some issues and isn't currently worth her position as top earner. </p><p> </p><p> * Cobra enjoyed a 1 year run with the title, but generally didn't deliver the top-tier matches a champion needs. WPL's best are much of a muchness, and after Claire Winters' similarly OK run last year, I'm moved the belt onto, well, me.</p><p> </p><p> * Which may not have been the best choice, as Cobra put in his best two performances on the night he lost the belt. Shame the decision had already been made at that point.</p><p> </p><p> * And really, we could have done worse than give AmEl2 a run with the belt, as he's been outstanding since arriving in WPL. A future star is getting a good grounding with us, or so we'll claim when he's headlining in Japan.</p><p> </p><p> * Snyder's replacement will be Logan Wolfsbaine, who's been getting rave reviews on the, uh, internet. Yeah, that's it... <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> * And I'm an idiot, because I left 4 workers off our season finale show, so now they're all upset and I've just thrown $800 down a hole in bonuses. Annoying <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Still... Clear the air talks at the next show?</p><p> </p><p> * WPL are up to 7.5% in the Mid South. That's up about 3% on last year. </p><p> </p><p> * Show ratings are up too; 2017 was a mix of E+/D-, while 2018 has been D/D+, even with the new guys doing their/the jobs.</p><p> </p><p> * As for me:</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills2019.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Anywhere from +4 to +6 in the weaker top row stats, +5 to +9 in most performance (altough +2 in Psychology) and +2 or so on on average for the entertainment section. Not bad, not great, but my opponents are... average at best, so I can't expect miracles.</p><p> </p><p> For my roll (I could do with a popularity boost, or an improvement to a top row skill)...</p><p> </p><p> 18. "Fists of Fury" You have devoted your holiday season to training in the ring +5 to your Brawling skill</p><p> </p><p> ...I should have specified "an improvement to a top row skill <em>other than brawling</em>", huh? <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Onward to 2019, and if I recall correctly, the arrival of a certain future worker...</p>

  3. <p>So, I have an industry at F+ and rising, and the economy at E+ and falling. I know I'm some way from making any major money... but is there a point in a growing company's popularity where there's a significant jump in income? Or is it always a gradual increase?</p><p> </p><p> My last month running a show, I lost $3, which I can't help but feel is the game taunting me <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
  4. <p>As in, pick who takes over? You can't - it's based on whoever's available in the database at that time with the potential to be an owner.</p><p> </p><p> I wouldn't have picked Michael Bull as my owner - half-decent referees are ten a penny. A decent road agent, on the other hand, will make all the difference (and stop the incessant 'you have not picked a road agent for this match' messages that I've been getting since, ooh, TEW 2005...)</p>
  5. <p><strong>WPL, January 1 2018</strong></p><p> </p><p> With an unchanged roster, WPL made it to 5% popularity in the Mid South. We've got enough in the bank (about $15,000) that Michael Bull is now taking his c. $900 salary a month <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/mad.png.69834f23b9a8bf290d98375f56f1c794.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> We ran another 7 shows (odd months + December) as we were pretty much breaking even, more or less, on months we ran shows.</p><p> </p><p> In the US, the Economy is down from B- to D and falling, and the Industry has hit F-, from E+. On the plus side, the latter should rebound nicely this year... so we'll have lots of fans, who'll have no money to spend on us.</p><p> </p><p> James Casey's stats are as follows:</p><p> </p><p> 6-0-8 with a D- average and C- high, both a full grade higher than last year. The C- came in the opener of the season finale, against Cobra, who I main-evented last year's season finale against - that match was our best right up until the C-.</p><p> </p><p> I've hit E popularity in Mid South, and generally the 6 workers in the WPL roster are much of a muchness for overness as wins and losses gettraded largely at random. </p><p> </p><p> Claire Winters is the current champion, but she's dragging down the show ratings with her E grade matches, so either myself or Cobra will have to take the title off her. Cobra tends to perform better, but I seem to get marginally better match ratings, so flip a coin...</p><p> </p><p> I've been meddling freely in everyone's backstage relationships, spawning two strong friendships and a third that became a best friendship. That's added about 8-10% to our backstage environment.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills2018.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Notable stat changes: +5 across the top row, pretty much. +7 to Basics, +10 to Safety, +9 to Consistency, +5 to Selling, +7 to Stamina making me much better as a general wrestler, and a few points gained in entertainment... but a very nice +15 for Reputation! Going off 7 shows, even at 2 matches per show, I'll take that.</p><p> </p><p> My annual roll is 52. . "The Real Rock n' Rolla" You've filled in for a band member one night, who now wants to you tour with them as a result. Add +10 between your Microphone and Charisma. Add "Musician" to your character. (Other Genre)</p><p> </p><p> Not bad at all - I think I'll drop that all into Charisma as from memory that's a passive bonus in matches too.</p>
  6. So, take 2... WPL, January 1 2017 With a roster comprising myself, Catalina Vasquez ($270), Claire Winters ($210), Cobra ($250), Joanna Silver ($250) and Lily Snyder ($330) together with owner/referee Michael Bull (free, for now), WPL made an impressive showing of 2016. Running 7 shows, they rose to 3.5% popularity in Mid South and have made three-figure profits in the last two months. Tentative plans to run monthly shows have been put in place, depending on how January goes. The US is doing... okay, with the Economy/Industry at B-/E+ with both falling. WPL should be okay, ish, for the near future but 2019 may be rough. James Casey's stats are as follows: 8-0-7 with an E+ average and D+ high (also WPL's best ever match, in the main event of December's season finale). E- popularity in Mid South, arising from the (slightly embarassing) 8 month WPL title run - I leave the game to decide who to have win most matches, and it kept picking me when it mattered. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills2017.jpg Notable stat changes: +10 to Safety and Consistency, +7 to Stamina, +6 to Basics and Selling, +4 to Microphone, Charisma and Acting. Only +2 to Psychology, though, and that's not moved since May. I wonder if I've hit a cap already, if I just need better workers to learn from, or if 72 is quite good enough for a 19 year old! WPL have $6,400 in the bank at the end of the year. The economy will do us well for now, and the industry should be recovering as the economy hits the low point, so that'll be interesting to see. My annual roll is 8. “LEGEN… wait for it… DARY!” Gain a Best Friend relationship with someone on your roster whose picture is of them wearing a suit. If no-one on your roster is wearing a suit, you must hire someone who wears a suit and become their Best Friend anyway then add +10% to your Drinking habit. I have no-one on the roster wearing a suit, so off we go to the meat market... ...and we welcome Vinnie Cruz, my new 'Best Friend', to WPL. $310 a show - half our profits in recent months. Let's hope he has chemmistry with someone, or in a few months I'll be telling my 'Best Friend' his services are no longer required...
  7. <p>It's a harsh life. I've just run my first show of the 'new' WPL, and even with a product now favourable to sponsorship, cheaper and fewer workers, I still lost close to a grand.</p><p> </p><p> So I'll be running 4-5 months without shows this year, and booking myself in 2-3 matches a night, with everyone else working at least once a night. I suspect we'll see some repeat booking penalties cropping up soon with only 6 workers on the books... but with 0 popularity, anything is better.</p><p> </p><p> Incidentally, I shuffled my stats a bit - almost all my top row points went into brawling as an experiment. I'm hoping for a favourable year-end roll to get me a little variety up top this time.</p>
  8. WPL, 2016 WPL ran 10 shows, skipping October and November to try and save some money. Even so, we're $17k down at the turn of the year. It doesn't seem likely we'll make 2018 http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskillsplusone.jpg Notable gains across Performance - +9 to Safety, +6 to Psychology (road agenting any match I'm not in) and Selling, +7 to Consistency. Note my Reputation drop - I injured Quentin Queen on one of the first shows and took a 10 point hit, so +5 apart from that. I'm not sure what Reputation effects, in-game, but it's annoying that I took that hit. With Safety up 9, that hopefully won't happen again. Roll: 40. “I SMASH!!” or “I’m In My 20s, On The Internet And I Enjoy The WWE” Nothing of use to me there, really, so I took the random roll for 36 points, which I'll add to my Weird rating... taking it to 36 I have a 2-0-8 record after ten matches, and an E average/E+ high so far. As for WPL: WPL Champion Deborah Young - March 2016 - 1 defence Lily Snyder - May 2016 - 0 defences Ava Anderson - June 2016 - 1 defence Deborah Young (2) - September 2016 - 0 defences Lily Snyder (2) - December 2016 - Current champion All matches are booked without me choosing a winner, unless Cobra complains about his record, in which case he gets put over me a couple of times. Lily Snyder got some backstage heat over her attitude. Letting her win the title (twice!) probably wasn't a great response. Maria Guest got called into wrestlers' court for not paying her tab. Already a positive backstage influence, her behaviour is said to have improved since. James Casey and Quentin Queen have heat after a botched move by Casey left Queen with a bruised tailbone. Queen missed no time over the injury. EDIT: Friday, Week 1, June 2017 - WPL go bankrupt Let's try this again...
  9. Independent contractor, I guess, getting paid directly by the companies. I guess he never got his $20,000 deposit back... * Can a worker build entertainment skills in one person angles, or do they need better skilled workers to learn from?
  10. <p><span>http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Using a Performance >>> Popularity product, which seems sensible as my UC is likely to be my best worker, at least in terms of performance skills.</p><p> </p><p> Initial roster:</p><p> </p><p> Ava Anderson, Claire Winters, Cobra, Deborah Young, Lily Snyder, Maria Guest, Quentin Queen, Seth Whitehead.</p><p> </p><p> I brought in Xander Summer as my ref... and then Michael Bull got appointed as CEO, so I re-offered Xander a 1 month, 1 show deal <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I would have preferred a road agent, all things considered.</p><p> </p><p> First show pulled a E+, so not bad at all. Let's see how we get on from here...</p>
  11. <p>I'm slowly developing ideas for a 1991 WCW diary I may do. One thing that concerns is me the number of TV shows back then, and how they were pretty much all B shows filled with squash matches and a handful of stars. Power Hour, Worldwide, Pro and Main Event were all B shows, more or less. Only Saturday Night seems to have been used to advance major storylines on a consistent basis.</p><p> </p><p> So, I'd either scrap/consolidate them all, or as a different idea, post a screenshot/bullet points of the results with written highlights ("Steve Austin had this to say about the Great Muta...") for key segments, a format that could also be used for Saturday Night and even PPVs with a bit more detail to it.</p><p> </p><p> Has anyone tried a similar format for their shows?</p>

Roberts was more of a loner, Savage way too unpredictable to work in a group and I've never felt that Lawler would be the type to join a Horsemen-type group... but then, he was a perennial face in Memphis, and a coward in WWE. Maybe he'd be the best second choice if his skill level lets him compete with the others.</p>

The undercard worker can be made up later but you're trying to boost your headliners so it's all good.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> This is the thing for me - using my 2013 PSW game for reference, as it's my most recent long-term game:</p><p> </p><p> Jason Thunder went from 0-26 (ET-Opener) in 9 months in the Tri-State just by being in matches, mostly winning, some losing.</p><p> </p><p> Sayeed Ali went from 20-45 (LM-UM) in 7 months, mostly by winning matches.</p><p> </p><p> Nelson Callum went from 32-45 (MC-UM) in 6 months, mainly winning but some losses.</p><p> </p><p> Those are all fine and, broadly, what I'd expect. However, Callum has been on a storyline hot streak since hitting UM, has barely lost (if at all - and only in tags/to main eventers if so) but hasn't been able to crack the main event.</p><p> </p><p> Steven Parker's popularity in the last 12 months in-game has been no lower than 50 and no higher than 53. In the same time he's gone from 35-59 in South West and 44-68 in Hawaii!</p><p> </p><p> Ash Campbell went from 40 in March to a peak of 54 in December, but has crashed to 36 after some bad results.</p><p> </p><p> Even Matthew Keith, my star guy and someone who should be easy to get over and keep over, seems to have plateaued in the mid-high 50s (although he's yet to break 60 anywhere, so may be capped).</p><p> </p><p> (And this is why I thought a separate topic may be useful - this isn't a 'small' question anymore <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />).</p><p> </p><p> As a Regional fed, I just seem to have hit this wall of not being able to break above C rated shows (13 of my 41 shows in 2+ years) or C+ matches (1 B- match in that time). This in spite of having a lot of talent on board (2014 PSW being pretty ridiculous in that regard).</p><p> </p><p> If I can't get my workers more over, than I can't get the good matches. If I can't get the good matches, I can't get those workers over - and with angles grading out in the 50s, tops, unless I spam Scythe's menace then there's no answer there, either. (And this is a diary game, so "Scythe intimidates XYZ, XYZ fight back, Major Successes all around" isn't an ideal approach to take!) </p><p> </p><p> I suspect this has improved a bit in 2016, as you can use better/more expensive workers, but even using the best available I don't seem to be able to get the guys past that hump from 'good Regional' to above.</p><p> </p><p> It may be that I just need to focus on a small number of workers, and avoid having them face one another at all, but without an ME/ME main event or similar, the show ratings suffer, so it's a bit of a Catch-22.</p><p> </p><p> I'm wondering what I'm missing, and finding myself reluctant to get into a long-term game on '16 until I can get a handle on what it is I need to do to build some momentum - even if it's just for one guy at a time, who can bring up another guy, and they can bring up two more guys, and...</p>
  14. <p>Is there a "beginner's guide" thread for TEW anywhere? I seem to recall one existing way back when, but not for more recent versions. I guess that's what this thread is for, sort of, but I'm not thinking of small questions.</p><p> </p><p> It'd be somewhere between a manual and the promotion specific threads, just setting out the fundamentals like how to get someone over, how to get/keep a feud hot and so on.</p><p> </p><p> And before someone says 'Hot angles/matches, duh' please bear in mind that not everyone runs WWE/SWF. How you get someone over in a small/local/regional fed is very different to being able to have them jump Jack Bruce every week for 3 months until, bang, A* overness <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> It'd be a thread that could accumulate the wisdom/experience of veteran players (like Remianen, for example) who've run countless games over all the versions and know how to run companies that grow and build new stars. Whether to rely on the default angles or create your own ones. How to pace a feud when you're booking monthly shows vs. a regular TV/PPV schedule. It might include guidance on what should be considered successful at different size levels - an E show at local is small, not so much at regional, and so on.</p><p> </p><p> A thread like this could even be useful for more experienced players - I know I have trouble getting workers over in smaller feds, for example, so my ratings tend to stagnate as my main eventers don't gain as much from their matches as the undercard do.</p>
  15. Psyched to see this updated so quickly - was my main skin on 13, and no doubt it will be this time, too. Just have to decide if I prefer blue or orange
  16. I'd have Jericho come in as as someone who's on the verge of breaking out of the indies - a bit arrogant, but very able to back it up in the ring. He's come to ECW to tick the final box before he moves onto one of the big two. He starts off by taking on the usual ECW suspects (I'm a bit sketchy on who was in ECW around then, but obviously you know who the mid/upper level workers are!) and showing that he can hang in ECW, even if he's not a traditional hardcore competitor. He can talk about Raven and Dreamer, Cactus, Whipwreck, Sandman, Public Enemy, Sabu, Taz... All the guys who defined ECW and who he has to beat. The one name he never mentions is RVD. It's not the most noticeable omission at first, as there are a lot of guys on the list, but over time Jericho beats the others and he and RVD are on a collision course... except for Jericho not acknowledging that RVD even exists, or that he has the TV title, or that the fans are desperate for the two biggest names in the company to square off. How you go from there would be interesting - maybe even have matches where they're on opposing teams, and Jericho finds a way to not be in the ring with him. I can't recall a similar storyline, so it'd be fun to see how it plays out.
  17. Awesome! I've played this a little in the past, but I feel like it's time to go big
  18. Reading Death of WCW right now, and the autobooker in '16 makes me feel like I could take on a 1991 WCW game. Will have to see what mods come out over the next few months...
  19. Bookerman, can you clarify what it is exactly that the app involves, please?
  20. Thank you for doing this For my diary, can you please add this description: Starring: DaVE Icon Johnny Martin! DaVE Star Madman Boone! DaVE Icon Nemesis('s son)! DaVE Legend Eric Tyler! "Mr PSW" Steven Parker! Greg Black! Some other guys!
  21. Looks great, Anderz. Thanks for doing this while angel's off the grid. And thanks for everyone who voted for my diary, too. I'm delighted to have won the CV DOTM award
