  2. Man, the GP semi-finals are AWESOME. Belfort and Condit are my picks. If Condit won, it would be the first time an American wins a PRIDE GP, right?
  3. UBL 6: PLATINUM FOR GOLD - Li vs. Perry 30 June 2021 Somewhere in Eastern Europe Prelims: BW: Stephen Loman vs. Felipe Colares FlyW: Jake Hadley vs. Bokang Masunyane W BW: Milana Dudieva vs. Mayra Rodrigues MW: Bartosz Fabinski vs. Kiamrian Abbasov WW: Miguel Baeza vs. Jason Jackson W BW: #15 Rin Nakai vs. Cornelia Holm LHW: #11 Ed Herman vs. Julius Anglickas WW: #13 Ramazan Emeev vs. #14 Murad Abdulaev Main card preview: 1. Featherweight Bout: #10 Grant DAWSON (16-1, -460) vs. Damon JACKSON (18-4-1-1, +360) Dawson is a top prospect that went 4-0 in his short UFC run. He's a RNC master, 9 of his 16 wins coming via the wonderful choke. He has unstoppable takedowns that allow him to use his very well rounded ground games, and he often manages to turn things his way on the gorund. Damon Jackson is a fighter with plenty of experience in the big leagues, going 2-0 in Bellator, 1-2-1-1 in the UFC and 0-1 in PFL. He's coming off a 1st round KO loss in the UFC, against current UBL FW champion Ilia Topuria. He is a dangerous BJJ player, with 14 of his 18 wins coming via submission, as he loves pressuring his opponent into grappling contests. He also has a great RNC, which brought him 8 of his Ws. Prediction: Dawson by 3rd round submission. 2. Women's Bantamweight Bout: #4 Bea MALECKI (5-0, -550) vs. #8 Joselyne EDWARDS (9-2, +430) Malecki is still in the early stages of her career, having gathered 5 fights since her 20017 debut, including 2 UFC wins anda win in her UBL debut, a UD win over Vanessa Melo. Before MMA, she was a muay thai and BJJ fighter. Still, her skills are pretty limited for MMA as of now, but at 29, she has a few years left to grow as a fighter. Joselyne Edwards is making her debut in the big leagues, coming off a 1st round TKO win. She is mainly a boxer, with 5 of her wins coming via KO/TKO, altho she does have a mean armbar that brought her 2 victories. Altho pretty far from being elite, she's young, at 25, and has plenty of time to develop into a big time fighter. For now, tho, I see Bea's ground game superiority being too much for Joselyne. Prediction: Malecki by 2nd round submission. 3. Lightweight Bout: #3 Renato CARNEIRO (15-4-1, -500) vs. #8 Vinc PICHEL (13-2, +390) Moicano Carneiro is coming off a big win in his UBL debut, over Brent Primus, following which he called out Vinc Pichel. Moicano is a greeat BJJ fighter that also has good wrestling on the feet and good power in his hands and is quite elusive on the feet. Vinc Pichel is coming off 2 UFC wins, his latest win being a UD win over Jim Miller. He has a 6-2 UFC record. He is mainly a striker, with good hands, and he also has good defensive BJJ skills. I don't see him managing to beat Moicano, tho. Also, a win here would surely make Moicano the #1 contender for Gillespie's title. Prediction: Carneiro by decision. 4. Heavyweight Tournament Quarter-Final: #2 Sergey SPIVAK (12-3, -400) vs. #3 Tai TUIVASA (12-3, +300) Spivak is coming off a loss in the first ever UBL main event, losing to proving PED addict Sergey Pavlovich in a competitive fight where he won 2 rounds on all scorecards. He's a sambo fighter with great power in his strikes, good wrestling skills and good offense on the floor, with very good ground striking. Tuivasa is coming off back to back 1st round TKOs, against Struve in the UFC and against Greg Hardy in the UBL. His last loss came against Spivak by 2nd round submission, in 2019, so he's likely happy with this shot at redemption. He's mainly a brawler with great power in his fists, and also pretty good technique. He also knows how to defend against submissions on the floor, but getting up when a high level grappler is over him is not something he usually pulls off. Spivak is the obvious favourite, but Tuivasa's KO power means he can always pull off the upset as long as he's on the feet. Prediction: Spivak by 3rd round submission. 5. Welterweight Title Bout: © Jingliang LI (19-6, -540) vs. #4 Mike PERRY (15-7, +430) The welterweight champion is making his first defence after debuting in the UBL with a kimura win over Elizeu dos Santos and a UD nod over Niko Price in the title fight. He's a very well rounded fighter with a high fight IQ, with the power of his hands being his main strength, and his bottom control and sub' defence being his main weaknesses. Perry used to be a KO artist early in his UFC career, but hadn't won by KO in his 9 fights before his UBL debut, where he TKOd Jake Matthews in the 2nd round. Now, having his confidence back, he aims to be at the top of the food chain in hsi new company, and he's been quite vocal about how he'll wreck the champion with his punches. He's mainly a striker with great stregth in his fists, and on the ground his main ability is scrambling back up. I believe Li is too well rounded for Perry, so I believe he'll succesfuly defend here, altho' Perry showed a bit of good grappling himself in his 2020 win over Mickey Gall. Prediction: Li by 5th round submission. Come on, lads, share theeeeeeeem Main card predictions: FW: Grant DAWSON vs. Damon JACKSON W BW: Bea MALECKI vs. Joselyne EDWARDS LW: Renato CARNEIRO vs. Vinc PICHEL HW Tournament QF: Sergey SPIVAK vs. Tai TUIVASA WW Title: Jingliang LI vs. Mike PERRY
  4. As this is the first "heated" fight we have in the UBL and also happens to be the main event of our next card, it just felt like we needed something special for this bout, so allow me to introduce the UBL's first documented press conference! Ever since UBL Crowning Season 3, Perry, who has won his prelims bout vs. Jake Matthews by 2nd round TKO, has been badmouthing the champion Li Jingliang, who defeated Elizeu dos Santos and Niko Price to win the belt. Perry has been making borderline racist remarks, while laughing about how easy it will be for him to earn the belt in this new promotion. UBL 6 PRESS CONFERENCE Whana Dite: Hello, everyone. I'm glad to welcome you all to the presser of this wonderful card. You know these guys have been going at each other and wanting to fight for quite some time, and since it's a fight that makes sense, we're letting them have it. Reporter: Whana, how do you feel about the controversial remarks that Mike has made about the champion Jingliang Li? WD: Mike is wild. He's had a rough upbringing, like many of our other black fighters had, growing up in the rough sides of Florida. Mike will say what he thinks and I believe as long as he doesn't cross some lines, we can't blame him. Rep: Whana, Mike basically bad mouthed a whole country and said he will murder his opponent. WD: Come on, Mike isn't actually... Mike Perry: Hold on, mr. Dite, allow me to answer this. Jingliang Li is a mediocre fighter, born and raised in a dumb, dumb place. While I was thuggin' with my negro friends and trying to feed my family big ass cheeseburgers, Jingliang Li was probably eating dogs. How can you back this guy? Jingliang is laughing off his opponents intelectual remarks. R: What do you have to say about Mike, Jingliang? Jingliang Li: You know, it's obvious Mike likes to talk alot, and when you talk this much, it's likely to start talking things that are just dumb. MP: WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, LI? Don't ask this guy anything, I'll eat him alive, you want answers from the champion, just ask me 'cause that belt is already mine. R: What do you think that Jingliang's biggest strengths are, Mike? MP: Strengths? I don't know, does he have any? Being better than the bums he beat? Or being more lucky than the good guys he's beaten, I don't know, that might be it. Have you saw his striking stance? It's so dumb. I'll smoke him. R: And what do you think would be your road to victory? MP: Well, you know, I'm trying to regain my reputation as a knock-out artist, you know? In the UFC, I won my first 4 fights by KO and then went on to have all my other wins come by decision, I don't like that. Then I came over here and TKO'd Jake Matthews like it was nothing. That's what I wanna do here, I wanna TKO this paper champ. And since it's never been done, it will feel even more satisfying. R: Jingliang, it's looking like Mike isn't really taking you serious as a threat. Do you take him more seriously than he seems to take you? JL: Actually, I'm pretty sure it's all for facade. I belive Mike realizes this is a big opportunity and has been training harder than ever to impress everyone. It's his first big league main event, after all. And yes, I do take him seriosly, but I can guarantee you he will not KO me. R: And can you tell us how do you think you'll get your victory on fight night? JL: I don't believe it's wise to talk about my strategy in public. R: Whana, who do you think can challenge for the Welterweight Title after this fight? WD: Well, we just signed Ismail Naurdiev, he's a stud and if his debut goes well, he'll most likely be worth a title fight. MVP is also booked for a main event fight against Jake Matthews, if he wins in style he might also insert himself in the title picture. And Price and Lawler can also get back in the picture with a couple of good wins, Lawler will be coming back against Elizeu, we'll see what we can book for Price. R: One last question for the champ. Jin, do you believe Perry managed to get in your head? Do you think all the trash talk will matter when you step in the cage? Li laughs at this question before giving his answer. JL: In the cage, what matters is skill, technique, strength of body and strength of mind. I do believe my mind is stronger than his, so if his talk affects anyone, it's affecting him. He will be reckless and I will be focused. MP: YOU'LL BE BEAT UP, LI, THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL BE! NOW, I GOT A DATE TO GO TO, LET'S GET ON WITH THE STAREDOWN SO I CAN LEAVE THIS CHUMP ALREADY! As he finishes that sentence, Perry gets up and flips the table and goes to the center of the stage, in front of CEO Whana Dite, gesturing for Li to join him. Li calmy gets up, puts his belt on his shoulder and comes to face off with the challenger. As he bows down respectfully, Perry storms off the stage. As he climbs down the stairs, he shouts some more cheap trash talk, while, the champion poses with his belt. Perry stole most of the headlines, while sympathy grew for Li and his respectful ways.
  5. TITLE CONTENDER CAUGHT ON PEDs! On the last UBL card, Juan Puerta earned a title shot in the UBL Flyweight division after defeating Rasul Albaskhanov in the UBL Flyweight Tournament. Turns out he was on PEDs, like most guys are in the UBL. Do these guys not realize they do drug testing? But as usually, he's not the only one guilty of such crimes! Featherweight Daniel Weichel had earned a beautiful submission win over Cody Stamann. Well, Weichel WAS ON BOTH TRT AND PEDs, DAMN SIR! Rumor has it he has been cut from the company, while Puerta will serve his suspension and come back in 2022. In non-major news, the MW bout between Bartosz Fabinski and Yasubey Enomoto was scrapped off the prelims because of an injury. Big fights between UBL 4 & UBL 5: UFC Cory Sandhagen beat Petr Yan by 4th round Kneebar sub for the UFC BW title. Paulo Costa beat Marvin Vettori by 2nd round TKO for the UFC MW title (which was vacated after Adesanya failed a drug test). Jorge Masvidal beat Michael Chiesa by 2nd round TKO. Darren Till beat Kelvin Gastelum by UD. UBL 5: DEMOLITION - Rothwell vs. Boser 16 June, 2021 Somewhere in Eastern Europe Prelims: WW: Gadzhimurat Khiramagomedov defeats Shavkat Rakhmonov by UD (30-27, 29-28 x 2). LW: Islam Mamedov defeats Loik Radzhabov by UD (30-27 x 2, 29-28) in a Fantastic bout. MW: Vladimir Mineev defeats Salamu Abdurakhmanov by UD (29-28 x 3). W FlyW: #14 Gina Mazany defeats Silvana Gomez Juarez by SD (29-28 x 2, 28-29). FW: Alex Gilpin defeats #12 Henry Corrales by RNC submission @4:32, round 3. LHW: Jordan Johnson defeats #12 Nasrudin Nasrudinov by UD (29-28 X 3). Johnson calls out Aleksei Butorin, thinking it would make for a more fun fight than the one he's just had. Main card: 1. Flyweight Bout: #9 Yosuke SARUTA (21-9-3, -520) vs. #14 Azam GAFOROV (12-1, +410) Round 1: Gaforov is pressuring Saruta, but Saruta is connecting more with his counter jabs. Eventually, Gaforov walks into the pocket and finally manages to follow up on his jab with a beautiful head kick, but Saruta eats it. But Gaforov hits another jab and a second, stronger head kick, AND SARUTA HITS THE FLOOR! Gaforov is throwing big hands and the ref has to jump in! Winner: Gaforov (Kick & pound TKO @2:00, round 1). Rating: Great. Post fight: Gaforov thanks everyone for supporting him and says he'd like a fight against Tyson Nam next. It might work.. 2. Women's Flyweight Bout: #10 Kana WATANABE (9-0-1, -580) vs. #12 DAIANA TORQUATO (10-3, +460) Round 1: The feeling out process sees them both defend a bunch of punches, and it's Torquato that connects with a pair of jabs first. Kana misses a big hook and gets struck with a jab and a cross. Torquato connects with a hook, and Kana can only touch her with a jab. Another hook lands for Torquato, and Kana manages to catch her with a cross. Torquato is pressuring, she missed a combo from the pocket but then struck with a hook to the ribs. She then strikes with a good straight. They then go on to show spectacular defensive movements for the remaining 2 minutes of round 1, as despite the many strikes that are thrown, only a jab from Torquato lands. 10-9 Torquato, as Kana Watanabe didn't even attempt to start grappling. Round 2: Kana hits a leg kick and gets touched with 2 jabs. Torquato hits a jab-cross combo and creates a cut under Kana's eye. Kana hits a nice 1-2. Toruqato hits an overhand left. Kana buys a feint and gets struck with a body punch. Finally, Kana dodges a cross and hits with a jab-hook combo. Torquato hits a cross and then they display good defensive movements again, for a minute, and then Kana lands a cross of her own. Torquato, seemingly a bit tired now, hits a jab-cross combo and gets stung with a big hook by Kana. The ref pauses to check the cut on Kana, and as the bout restarts with 30 seconds left, Kana finally shoots and gets the TD, as Torquato pulls guard. She smothers her for the last seconds of the round. 19-19, as Kana's late explosion turned the round in her favor. Round 3: They yet again show off their high level good defensive movements, and Torquato manages to hit a pair of jabs. Kana hits a straight right, but Torquato comes forward with 2 jabs and a hook, and Kana'd better start grappling if she wants to keep her 0. Torquato hits a good jab-hook combo. Finally, Kana shoots with 90 seconds left. She works a bit, but manages to get Torquato against the cage, where she sets up a spectacular judo throw, and now Torquato is sitting against the cage. KANA LOOKS FOR THE GUILLOTINE! AND IT'S IN, TORQUATO TAPS! Good work from Watanabe! Winner: Watanabe (Guillotine submission @4:35, round 3). Rating: Fantastic. Post-fight: Kana seems very happy, and while her interview is pretty generic, she is pretty pretty, which makes up for the lack of remarkable statements. 3. Bantamweight Bout: #11 Kai ASAKURA (16-3, -410) vs. #13 Shamil SHAKHBULATOV (12-3, +320) Round 1: Shamil tries a hook but gets countered with a straight from Asakura. But Asakura misses a big straight and Shamil now counters with a good hook. They are both pretty aware of each other's strength, and are very cautious in the exchanges, as nothing fully lands for the next 90 seconds. Asakura is pressing forwrd, and as Shamil hits 2 jabs, Asakura connects with a heavy cross. They trade a few jabs and Shamil kicks the body. Asakura hits a jab and a straight right, and Shamil answers witha 1-2 that opens a cut under Asakura's eye. Asakura hits another straight right. Shamil dodges a cross and comes in with a good straight right of his own, and as the round approaches the ending, Shamil shoots but doesn't manage to get the TD. 10-9 for Shamil, as he managed to outstrike his opponent and connect with a few big shots. Asakura looks a bit shocked by the performance of his opponent. Round 2: Again, Asakura is the one pressuring. They trade a few jabs and as Asakura misses a big hook, Shamil comes in with 2 jabs and a cross, AND ASAKURA SEEMS RATTLED! SHAMIL HITS A BIG RIGHT TO THE JAW AND ASAKURA IS DOWN! But Shamil's pounding game doesn't manage to end the fight! Shamil spends the next 2 minutes throwing small shots from side control and blocking Asakura's guard attempts, and the ref gets them up with 35 seconds left. Shamil blocks a head kick and hits a mean hook. Asakura misses another head kick attempt and gets stung with a good 1-2, and it's looking like Shamil has got the right answer for anything that Asakura tries today. 20-18 for Shamil. Round 3: Asakura checks a low kick and hits a hook. They cancel each other out for the next minute. Shamil then hits a jab and dodges Asakura's 1-2. Asakura is looking impatient. He's throwing some reckless shots but Shamil defends everything. Asakura hits a jab and Shamil comes in with 2 jabs and a right cross. Asakura is still pressuring, but his combo simply can't trouble Shamil. Finally, Asakura manages to connect with a head kick, but it wasn't quite clean, and Shamil hits him with a good straight right. Last minute and Shamil dodges and hits a jab-straight combo. Shamil hits 2 more jabs as Asakura keeps missing. Asakura hits a body kick and takes another jab-jab-cross combo. And that was it, a clear win for the underdog, 30-27 Shamil Shakhbulatov on my scorecard. Winner: Shakhbulatov (UD: 30-27 x 3). Rating: Great. Post-fight: Shakhbulatov is glad he came in and got a clear W against a former champion of RIZIN, and he'd like to continue his UBL run with a fight against Timur Valiev. We might build them up some more before we have them go at each other. 4. Heavyweight Bout: #12 Roy NELSON (23-19, -550) vs. #15 Philipe LINS (14-5, +430) It's looking like Nelson has about 40lbs on his opponent, which isn't quite shocking. Round 1: Lins manages to hit a jab before Nelson shoots in and gets the TD. Lins pulls guard. Nelson moves into half-guard, and then into side control. He hits Lins with some knees to the ribs, and then attepts to grab his leg. He can't do it, so back to the kneeing tactic. Nelson also fails with an arm triangle attempt. BUT HE TRIES A KIMURA AND IT MIGHT BE IT! YUP, THERE'S THE TAP! Winner: Nelson (Kimura submission @4:19, round 1). Rating: Great. Post-fight: Nelson is glad to start this new chapter of his lenghty career with a win, and can't wait to celebrate breaking his losing streak with a barbecue and beer! Never change, Roy! 5. And now, it is time for our MAAAIN EVEEENT OF THE EVENING! A Heavyweight Bout, in the UBL Heavyweight Tournament Quarter-Finals: #4 'BIG' Ben ROTHWELL (38-14, -280) vs. #6 'THE BULLDOZER' Tanner BOSER (19-8-1, +220) Round 1: They both miss their shots early on. Boser then connects with a big hook, but gets struck with a big straight right from Rothwell. Then they trade jabs and Rothwell connects with a left cross. Rothwell's pressuring, and he hits Boser with a hook. Rothwell misses with a big cross and Boser counters with a jab-straight combo. Again, Rothwell misses with a big shot and Boser counters with a jab-cross combo. Rothwell counters an unispired cross with a powerful hook. Looks like Rothwell is getting tired already as we approach the last minute. Boser counters a straight with a jab-straight combo. Rothwell misses some big shots while Boser chips away with jabs, as the round ends. 10-9 Boser and it will be an uphill road for Rothwell, as his cardio might fail him. Round 2: They both land powerful hooks. Then they land some more powerful hooks, damn. Boser comes in with one more good jab-hook combo, and then dodges a hook from Rothwell and hits a jab-body kick combo. Boser hits a jab-cross combo, and then two jabs, and Rothwell is too tired and slow to connect with most of his shots now. Boser hits a 1-2, and Rothwell finally catches him with a good straight. Too bad Rothwell seems exhausted. As we enter the last 30 seconds, both men have been missing more and more. Boser lands another good hook, BUT ROTHWELL SMASHES HIM WITH A BIG STRAIGHT AND BOSER HITS THE FLOOR! Rothwell doesn't manage to finish it, tho, and the round ends. Rothwell's late flury earned him the round in my book, 19-19. Round 3: Rothwell is pressuring, and he lands a big straight. After a minute of gassed big men missing punches, they clinch. Boser manages to push Rothwell against the cage with more ease than you'd expect. Boser attacks with mean dirty boxing, but soon he's looking just as tired as Rothwell. Still, he keeps doing damange while taking close to none, and Herb Dean gets them back in the center with 80 seconds left in round 3. They trade big hands, and then manage to hit 0 shots in the last minute of the round. Ah, cardio-less heavyweights... 29-28 Boser. Round 4: Rothwell is pushing again, and he hits Boser with a big right. He then dodges a hook and hits another beautiful right. Boser is looking stressed despite likely leading on the cards, and Rothwell hits him with a good hook. Rothwell then hits another right, as Boser landed nothing but a few jabs this round. Rothwell hits a strong jab-cross combo, and finally, they fall into a clinch. Boser gets Rothwell against the cage again. There, he controls the last 2 minutes of the round with strikes from every angle, but it's hard to say who dealt more damage this round, as Boser's many shots lacked the power of Rothwells. I'll give it to Boser, but it could go either way, 39-37. Round 5: Again, Rothwell is pushing, but he can't land anything, as both fighters seem quite sloppy this round. Boser hits a jab-cross combo, and Rothwell answers hit a jab-straight combo. Minutes pass with 0 shots landing, and finally Boser counters a big right with a good hook, and then they clinch. Boser attempts to trip Rothwell and he does it on his 2nd attempt, as Rothwell pulls guard. From there, Boser hits a few strikes and likely ensures he won this round and, with it, this fight. 49-46 Boser on my scorecard. Winner: Tanner Boser (UD: 49-46 x 2, 48-47). Rating: Good. Post-fight: Boser praises Rothwell for a tough, gritty fight, and says he's ready to do what he should have done in his debut, and win the belt ASAP. Flyweight Bout: #9 Yosuke SARUTA (21-9-3, -520) vs. #14 Azam GAFOROV (12-1, +410) Saruta is an ex Shooto Flyweight (114 lbs) champion and ex ONE Strawweight (125 lbs) champion. He spent most of his career in Shooto, but is coming a 4-1 stint in ONE that ended with back to back victories. He's a veteran with mean elbows, a good ground game and good technical boxing, plus a good chin. Gaforov is an ex ACA interim Flyweight champion. He's mainly a striker that's quite hard to hit and has great power in his low kicks to make up for the power his hands lack, and good technique all aroud. He's also very hard to take down, and in case he somehow ends up on the ground, he can hunt for submissions off his back. Seeing he is superior in the striking exchanges and a good worker off his back, I expect him to win over the veteran Saruta. Prediction: Gaforov by 3rd round submission. 2. Women's Flyweight Bout: #10 Kana WATANABE (9-0-1, -580) vs. #12 DAIANA TORQUATO (10-3, +460) Watanabe is an undefeated Japanese judoka, with wins in Jewels, Rizin & Bellator. She's a remarkable grappler who likes taking the fights to the ground and working for submissions or pounding her way to victory. Daiana Torquato is on an 8 fight winning streak and is finally making her debut on a major stage. She's decent all around, with her creative striking being her main quality. Since she doesn't master grappling quite well, I expect Kana to dominate her and eventually lock in a submission. Prediction: Watanabe by 1st round submission. 3. Bantamweight Bout: #11 Kai ASAKURA (16-3, -410) vs. #13 Shamil SHAKHBULATOV (12-3, +320) Ex-Rizin BW champion Kai Asakura is coming off a big loss in his rematch with Horiguchi, taking his Rizin record to 8-2. He's a karateka with major power in his hands and good technique as well, plus good takedown defence to keep the bout standing. On the ground, he can defend against the average grappler and ocassionaly sneak in a submission of his own. He loves getting in an eventual slam, but what he loves most is looking to finish fights with his powerful punches. Shakbulatov is coming off a 1st round TKO win in ACA, where he spent his whole career and is a former title challenger. He's a sambo fighter with strong hands and nice head kicks, but his main gameplan is usually taking the fight to the ground and finding submissions. He seems capable enough to take Asakura down and advance past his defence, so I see him as the favourite. Prediction: Shakhbulatov by 2nd round submission. 4. Heavyweight Bout: #12 Roy NELSON (23-19, -550) vs. #15 Philipe LINS (14-5, +430) 'Big Country' Roy Nelson is coming off being repeadetly beat up in Bellator, where he built a 1-5 record, after a lenghty 9-10 stint in the UFC. He was also the IFL HW champion, and gathered wins over Cro Cop, Bigfoot Silva and Big Nog. He's a brawler with scary power in his hands and still has a great chin despite his age, and he is way better than you'd expect on the ground, despite preferring to keep the fights standing. Philipe Lins is coming off an 0-2 run in the UFC. He's no stranger to the big leagues, as he went 3-3 in Bellator and 4-0 in the PFL before that, becoming PFL HW champion in the process. He's a decent boxer, but his main threat comes on the ground, and he's also got some powerful knees in the clinch. Still, we expect Big Country to eat him alive, so good luck Phil! Prediction: Nelson by 1st round KO. 5. Heavyweight Tournament Quarter-Final: #4 Ben ROTHWELL (38-14, -180) vs. #6 Tanner BOSER (19-8-1, +140) Well, after getting TKO'd by the man who was soon to become the first ever UBL Heavyweight champion, Big Ben gets his chance at redemption in the Heavyweight tournament, altho' he has to beat two great contenders to earn his title shot. Y'all know Ben: bombs in his hands, good takedowns, good clinch, not the hardest chin, loves to take someone's head off with his punches. Like Ben, Boser is coming off 2 Ls, with one being in the semi-finals of the inaugural tournament. Like Ben, he has a chance at earning another title shot, but he must climb two mountains first. Tanner is mainly a striker, with good strenght in his hands and low kicks, altho' his technique is not the most crisp. He's been working on his defensive ground game, but is still quite vulnerable to good submission artists. The winner of this bout will go on to face the winner of Stefan Struve vs. Ilir Latifi in the semi-finals. Prediction: Rothwell by 3rd round KO. 11. GANGSTER'S PARADISE: IS THERE NOT ONE FAIR STAR IN THE UBL? EX-UBL CHAMPION SERGEY PAVLOVICH LOST HIS BELT WHILE ON PEDs. Light Heavyweight fighter Attila Vegh also happened to be on TRT in his loss to Maxim Grishin on the prelims. Both fighters have since been cut. Looks like the UBL is sporting an "at least win if you cheat" policy, as Carlos Condit, Anderson Silva and Said Nurmagomedov managed to avoid being cut after testing positive for banned substances. Featherweight Bout: #4 Cody STAMANN (19-4, -430) vs. #7 Daniel WEICHEL (40-13, +340) Round 1: Stamann shoots straight off the bat and gets Weichel down, gaining side control! He throws a few hands, and as Weichel tries a sweep, Stamann gets his back! But Stamann doesn't manage to get the hooks in, and after minutes of struggle, Mazzagatti gets them up with 75 seconds left. Stamann gets hit with a straight left, but gets the clinch. He pushes Weichel against the fence and keeps him there until the end of the round, hitting a few short strikes in the process. 10-9 Stamann. Round 2: Wiechel hits a good jab-straight combo, but Stamann gets him in the clinch after he misses a second combo. Stamann gets the thai clinch. He hits an elbow, and then Weichel escapes the clinch. Weichel hits a hook. He then comes with 2 jabs and a low kick. But Weichel then overcommits with a kick, and Stamann catches his leg. Stamann gets the TD, ending up in guard. Stamann hits a few small shots, BUT WEICHEL GRABS HIS HAND, AND THEN LOCKS IN A TRIANGLE CHOKE! IT'S DEEP, BUT THE CLOCK IS RUNNING! STAMANN TAPS! Winner: Weichel (Triangle with Armbar Submission @4:43, round 2). Rating: Decent. Post-fight: Weichel praises Stamann's toughness and says he's glad he got to show off both his high level striking and his BJJ today and he says he believes it's not too late for him to chase that title run. Daniel Weichel broke in the world FW rankings, at #25. 2. Women's Flyweight Bout: #4 JJ ALDRICH (8-4, +180) vs. #5 Pearl GONZALEZ (10-5, -230) Round 1: Aldrich hits a hook, and then hits Pearl with a jab-low kick combo. But then Pearl shoots, and gets Aldrich down, pulling guard. Pearl advances to half-guard, and then into side control. She hits a few shots, and then looks to hook a leg. SHE GOT IT AND NOW A KNEEBAR IS LOCKED IN! PEARL'S GOT IT TIGHT, ALDRICH TAPS! Gah damn! Winner: Gonzalez (Kneebar Submission @3:42, round 1). Rating: Great. Post fight: Pearl celebrates this win and says she can't wait to bring her BJJ back to the top of MMA. 3. Heavyweight Bout: Frank MIR (19-13, -890) vs. Jake HEUN (15-10, +710) Mir has about 30lbs over Heun. Round 1: Mir pushes forward, and as he steps in the pocket, he unleashes with two jabs and a big overhead left! Heun's hurt! But Mir misses with a head kick and Heun clears his head. They trade a few jabs, AND MIR HITS A HUGE CROSS! Heun is still alive, but Mir's tryna end that by raining huge shots on him! He wants to end it with an arm triangle! But he can't get it (does that ever work well?). He fails with another attempt, and then with a kneebar attempt. Damn it Frank! Seeing no progress, the ref gets both of them up with 70 seconds left. Mir dodges a hook and hits a jab-head kick combo. Mir hits a jab and Heun answers with a straight right, and then Mir shoots and gets a single leg TD, ending up in guard. That's how the round ends. 10-9 Mir. Round 2: Mir hits a jab, and Heun answers with a big straight right. Mir hits a good jab-hook combo. He then shoots, but only gets hold of one of Heun's legs. He drives him up against the cage and then gets him in a thai clinch. He hits a pair of weak knees to the chest, and then Heun escapes. Both fighters are starting to look tired. They trade hands, and a cross from Mir sees Heun hit the floor! Again, Mir rains down big strikes, and this time it's looking like Heun won't resist them! That's it, TKO! Winner: Mir (Cross & pound TKO @3:52, round 2). Rating: Decent. Post-fight: Mir greets everyone and says it's great to be here and he's glad he still has this much fight in him, and is looking forward to fight again as soon as he can! 4. And now, FOR THE UBL LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP! © Gregor 'THE GIFT' GILLESPIE (15-1, -430) vs. #2 Drakkar KLOSE (12-2-1, +340) Round 1: Gillespie shoots straight away, and gets Klose down, securing side control! Gillespie hits a few punches, but Klose scrambles up, altho' Gillespie grabs his back. But Klose escapes and circles to the center. Gillespie shoots again and Klose's pulling guard. Gillespie hits a few elbows, and gets north-south control after a scramble. He moves into side control. He goes to the body with a few punches, AND GILLESPIE THEN LOCKS IN A KIMURA! KLOSE TAPS OUT! Winner, AND STILL UBL LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION: GREGOR "THE GIFT" GILLESPIE (Kimura Submission @4:31, round 1). Rating: Good. Post-fight: "You might think I might have had doubts when I saw both belts change hands on the last UBL card, right? I had absolutely no doubt. I knew I can take him down with ease, and I did. I knew I can advance to any position I want on the ground, and I did. And I knew I can make him tap, and I did. And I'll do the same to whoever's next, and I will likely make it look easy as well. Borys Mankowski, I hope you make it to the top of the rankings, not only the top of the card, so I can throw you around like a ragdoll and get you tapping too. Enjoy watching that clown close the card, Europe, good night!" Title prestige: up from 63 to 68. Gregor Gillespie moved up in the world LW rankings, from #10 to #3, while Drakkar Klose fell from #19 to #23. 5. And now, it is time for our MAAAAAAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING, a bout in the LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION: Borys "THE TASMANIAN DEVIL" MANKOWSKI (23-8-1, -400) vs. Akhmed "BUTCHER" ALIEV (19-6, +310) Round 1: The feel-out process takes a while initially, and the Aliev catches Borys with a hook. He then hits Borys with a jab-cross combo. But he then misses with a punch-kick combo, and Borys manages to catch his leg! Borys takes him down, Aliev pulls guard! Borys hits a few elbows, but a scramble starts and Aliev ends up in guard, on top! Aliev hits quite a bunch of short strikes, and also hits a couple of shoulder shots as the round ends. 10-9 for the underdog Aliev. Round 2: Borys is showing better defense in the striking exchanges. Still, he gets caught with a cross and can only hit a jab, missing a head kick attempt. Again, Borys hits a jab and misses another head kick, and Aliev comes in with 2 jabs and a nice hook. Borys hits a cross, but Aliev hits a jab-low kick combo. Aliev hits with a jab and a strong straight right, and then he hits a big jab-hook combo! Aliev keeps landing big punches on Borys, but the Polish wrestler looks unbothered! Aliev hits a body kick and gets caught with a nice hook from Borys. And round 2 is over. 20-18 Aliev, great start from the underdog! Round 3: Borys misses with a wild cross and gets hit with a jab-hook combo. Borys hits a jab and misses yet another head kick. Aliev hits one more jab before Borys finally manages to start a clinch. He sends a big knee to the body of Aliev, and then gets him stuck against the cage. AND THERE IT IS, THE MANKOWSKI SUPLEX, AND BORYS HAS ALIEV'S BACK! But Borys can't get the RNC locked in! It takes some work, but he manages to get both hooks in! AND IT IS IN DEEP, ALIEV HAS TO TAP OUT TO THE REAR NAKED CHOKE! AND HE DOES! Winner: Borys Mankowski (Rear naked choke Submission @3:34, round 3). Rating: Great. Post fight: "GILLESPIE! 17. And now, allow me to present you the next card: UBL 4: Stars Don't Need Belts - Mankowski vs. Aliev May 28 2021 Somewhere in Eastern Europe Prelims: W BW: Izabela Badurek vs. Peggy Morgan LHW: Reinier de Ridder vs. Klidson de Abreu LW: Amirkhan Adaev vs. Ottman Azaitar MW: #13 Trevin Giles vs. #14 Andre Muniz FlyW: #12 Daniel Barez vs. #13 Maycon Silvan HW: #12 Javy Ayala vs. #13 Francimar Barroso FlyW Tournament QF: #6 Rasul Albaskhanov vs. #7 Juan Puerta Main card preview: 1. Featherweight Bout: #4 Cody STAMANN (19-4, -430) vs. #7 Daniel WEICHEL (40-13, +340) Cody Stamann got upset by Kevin Belingon in his UBL debut, as he got caught in a tight triangle and forced into submission, taking his current streak to 2 Ls. He's also had a pretty good 5-2 UFC run. Stamann is a wonderful grappler, with great submission offence and quality wrestling, plus some good technical striking. The German Daniel Weichel is a decision machine, as 8 out of his last 10 fights ended via decision. Right now, he's coming off 2 losses, to now champion Topuria and Bellator standout Emmanuel Sanchez. He was a Bellator main stay at FW, earning a 9-4 record and 2 FW title shots in the promotion. He's pretty well rounded, with good takedowns and submissions. He's comfortable both off his back and on the feet, as he often displays quality technical striking. This should be a pretty even match up, and I see Weichel picking up the W after 3 rounds. Prediction: Weichel by decision. 2. Women's Flyweight Bout: #4 JJ ALDRICH (8-4, +180) vs. #5 Pearl GONZALEZ (10-5, -230) Like Weichel, Aldrich is pretty much a decision machine, with all but 1 of her UFC wins ending via decision. She's coming off a SD loss to Sabina Mazo, taking her UFC record to 4-3, and she also had a 3-1 run in Invicta. Aldrich is mainly a striker, with good boxing and some powerful low kicks, but she needs to round up her game if she wishes to develop into an elite fighter. Pearl Gonzalez is coming off a UD loss to Miranda Maverick, taking her Invicta record to 3-2. She also had a short 0-2 UFC run. She is mainly a BJJ fighter, posing a great submission threat when she manages to ground the fight. Will she manage to ground the fight, tho? We'll see. Prediction: Aldrich by 2nd round KO. 3. Heavyweight Bout: Frank MIR (19-13, -890) vs. Jake HEUN (15-10, +710) Frank Mir is a great veteran, an ex-UFC HW champion who went 16-11 in the promotion, and is now coming off a short 1-2 stint with Bellator. Throughout the years, he earned great wins over the likes of Big Nog (x2), Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia and Cro Cop. In 2021, Mir is far from his prime, but is still a very capable fighter, with good offensive wrestling, dangerous submissions and respectable power in his hands. Jake Heun is coming off a submission loss to Salim Rasulov in his UBL debut, ending the 3 fights winning spree he was on. He got a 3-4 record in WSOF/PFL and a 3-1 record in RIZIN. He never really looked close to being an elite MMA fighter, so he's basically just here to give the fans a feel-good moment with Frank Mir. Don't spoil this moment, Jake, alright? Prediction: Mir by 1st round submission. 4. Lightweight Title: © Gregor GILLESPIE (15-1, -430) vs. #2 Drakkar KLOSE (12-2-1, +340) After his 6-1 run in the UFC, Gillespie made his return to MMA in the UBL cage and decision'd his way into greatness, defeating Bobby Green and Rafael Fiziev to win the title. He's a wrestler that's also well versed on the ground, and he also has power in his hands and decent boxing for the rare occasions when he can't take the fight to the ground. Still, he'll mostly manage to take the fight to the ground and dominate from top control. Drakkar Klose has won 4 of his last 5, as he's coming off a KO win against Scott Holtzman. He's had a good 5-2 run in the UFC before coming to the UBL. He's mainly a good wrestler, but he has decent strikes and a good & dangerous muay thai clinch. His best chance is to keep the fight on the feet and eventually get Gillespie in a thai clinch, but it won't be easy. I expect a pretty close fight. Prediction: Gillespie by 4th round submission. 5. Lightweight Bout: Borys MANKOWSKI (23-8-1, -400) vs. Akhmed ALIEV (19-6, +310) Borys is a beast. After a great 10-2 run in KSW, he debuted with a UD win over Islam Mamedov in the UBL. His great run in the KSW turned him into a star of European MMA, making him popular enough to main event over the champ of his division, and he surely loved rubbing that in the champ's face. As a fighter, he loves mixing it up, as he's a talented striker with remarkable power in his low kicks, but his suplexes and wrestling are his main quality. From top control, he loves advancing into positions from which he can use his good ground striking, and he can also sweep or sneak in a submission to finish his opponents. Aliev is coming off a 2-2 run in the PFL, ending with a loss via arm triangle to Natan Schulte. He's an ex FNG LW champion. He is mainly a boxer with great power in his hands, and has quality takedown defenfce to enforce his gameplan of punchin his way into victory. His takedown defence might actually be good enough that he may steal one over Mankowski here! Still, he's surely the underdog here. Prediction: Mankowski by 3rd round KO. Welterweight Bout: #7 James KRAUSE (28-8, -180) vs. #8 Sean BRADY (13-0, +140) Round 1: Brady wants to get a clinch in but can't, as Krause is keeping him at bay hit jabs and a hook. Jab & spinning rib kick combo lands for Krause. He then hits two jabs and a low kick, and Brady is still yet to take any offensive action. Krause hits a big hook, but Brady just eats it. Another good 1-2 lands for Krause and Brady's sporting a cut under the eye. 3 short punches land for Krause, and then he lands a big straight. He continues pressuring and hits a jab, and a body kick, then repeats the combo with success. Finally, Brady gets a clinch as we enter the last 2 minutes of R1. But Brady fails with his TD attempts, and then Krause musters the strength to push Brady against the cage. But the ref stops it to check Brady's cut, and they then restart in the center. Krause immediately reopens the cut with a punch, and then scores another spinning body kick, and he gets in two more jabs before the round ends. Krause is making Brady look like an amateur! Clear 10-9 round. Round 2: Krause hits a jab and, likely feeling confident, initiates a clinch. There, he hits a few short punches and a good body knee. There's more dirty boxing in the clinch before Krause finally pushes Brady against the cage. He hits Brady with a sharp elbow before Brady manages to escape. Krause is starting to look quite tired, tho. Brady gets struck with another big hook, and then a body kick. Looking more and more tired, Krause misses with some uninspired combos and ends up having a kick caught by Brady. Brady uses it to finally secure a takedown, ending up in half guard. Krause manages to scramble to a full guard, and Brady starts attacking with some elbows. He scores several shots until the end of the round, but I still believe it was Krause's round for his first 4 minutes of control and good damage output. 20-18 Krause, but he's quite tired, so Brady still has a solid chance. Round 3: Brady dodges some hands, gets a clinch and Krause grabs the cage to avoid getting taken down by a sweep! Herb Dean saw it & took action. Brady hits an uppercut as Krause was stuck against the cage, but Krause escaped soon after. Krause hits 2 jabs and a hook before getting caught in another clinch initiated by Brady. Inside trip by Brady and he's in half guard! He soon advances to side control! AND NOW HE'S ON KRAUSE'S BACK! But all Brady does is look for the RNC until the very end of the round, and he fails to find it. Krause survived almos 3 minutes with his back taken, damn! 29-28 Krause. Winner: Krause (UD: 29-28 x 3). Rating: Good. Post-fight: Krause aknowledges he should put more work into his conditioning, but he's happy with how his stand up game served him today. 2. Lightweight Bout: #9 Rashid MAGOMEDOV (24-5-1, +100) vs. #11 Lando VANNATA (11-5-2, -110) Vannata is looking more focused than ever. Round 1: Rashid hits a jab, and Vannata answers with a jab and a head kick. They both land 1-2s. They show some good defensive movements, and Vannata catches Rashid with a strong hook. Rashid dodges a cross and comes in with one of his own. Vannata hits a 1-2. Jab-low kick combo lands from Rashid, and Vannata hits a similar combo. Rashid goes for the body. Vannata comes with the jab-cross combo, and Rashid anwers with a good right. Vannata looks rocked! UPPERCUT FROM RASHID! ANOTHE UPPERCUT AND VANNATA GOES DOWN! Rashid is hitting good shots, but Vannata is defending fairly well and despite you could argue it should have been a finish, the timer saved Vannata. 10-9 for Rashid. Round 2: They both are more caotious, as the first minute of the round feels like how a first round usually starts. Rashid throws first, landing a jab-cross combo. Vannata manages to hit another head kick. Rashid hits a jab and Vannata hits yet another head kick, but it looks like Rashid's head is made of stone today. Rashid hands another good right, and Vannata kicks the thigh. Vannata seems kinda groggy, tho. RASHID THROWS A HUGE HOOK, AND VANNATA IS OUT COLD! THAT'S IT! Winner: Magomedov (Huge hook KO @2:43, round 2). Rating: Great. Post-fight: Rashid is calm, says it's just business and he's glad to give us a fun fight and get a win on his debut, and he can't wait to get home & relax with his family. 3. The following bout is for the UBL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP, AND IS IN THE Heavyweight Tournament Quarter-Finals! © Sergey PAVLOVICH (16-1, +190) vs. #3 Alexander "KING KONG" ROMANOV (14-0, -240) Romanov has about 25lbs on the champion. Round 1: Romanov wastes little time, as he's already clinching with Pavlovich. A NASTY TRIP AND ROMANOV ENDS UP STRAIGHT INTO SIDE CONTROL! He throws some small shots and fails with a kimura attempt. The ref gets them back up with 100 seconds left. ROMANOV CLINCHES AGAND AND GETS PAVLOVICH DOWN WITH A T-BONE SUPLEX! He's in half guard, and a scramble sees him into side control. He hits a few more shots as the round ends. 10-9 Romanov. Round 2: The champ hits 2 jabs and a body kick, and only gets 1 leg caught as Romanov shoots like a mad man. Romanov gets him against the cage. They dirty box for a minute and then Romanov lifts up Pavlovich and slams him with a Greco-Roman slam. Pavlovich is seated, and taking punches from Romanov. Sadly, that's literally how they spend the whole rest of the round: Romanov trying to hit Pavlovich's head, and Pavlovich hitting Romanov's King Kong body. 20-18 for the challenger. Round 3: Pavlovich hits 2 jabs & a cross. Romanov seems shook, as Pavlovich hits a straight and then a jab-body kick combo. They trade jabs, Romanov dodges a head kick but gets touched with a straight right. Pavlovich hits a 4 punch combo. And a leg kick. But now he's starting to look tired, much to Romanov's delight. Pavlovich earned this round, despite how it endend, tho. 29-28 Romanov. Round 4: Beautiful jab-straight combo lands from Pavlovich. Backing, Pavlovich manages to get 2 low kicks in before Romanov gets another clinch. Pavlovich is trapped agaist the cage. They dirty box for a while, and when Romanov tries to take Pavlovich down, he defends it by cage-grabbing. Verbal warning given by Herb Dean. No escape for Pavlovich, tho, as another greco-roman slam sees him hit the floor. He's seated against the cage. They strike for a while, and then Romanov manages to move into side control. They strike a bit more, and Romanov ends the round looking for a kneebar, to no avail. 39-37 Romanov. Round 5: Romanov shoots straight away, and ends up in Pavlovich's guard. Romanov is throwing some big hands. He doesn't manage to advance for now, so he settles for bunches of body strikes. 3 scrambles later, Romanov is standing on top of Pavlovich, in North-South position. He can't get the NS choke, so he moves into side control. He throws some more shots, and it is round over. 49-46 Romanov. Winner, AND NEEEW ULTIMATE B LEAGUE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Alexander "KING KONG" ROMANOV! (Unanimous decision: 50-45 x 3). Rating: Good. Evloev starts pressuring Topuria and he nails him with a powerful hook. More good head movement from both, and Evloev hits a straight right. As the round ends, Evloev hits one more good straight as Topuria wanted to grapple. 19-19. Round 3: Evloev hits a hard cross! But Topuria gets a clinch, and he gets Evloev against the cage. Greco-roman slam, and Topuria is in half guard! Topuria throws many small shots, as he can't manage to move past half-guard. That's what happens for a long, long time, as the round was ending as Herb Dean was getting them up due to lack of action. 29-28 Topuria. Round 4: Topuria shoots like a bull and gets Evloev against the cage! TOPURIA LIFTS THE CHAMP AND NAILS THE GRECO-ROMAN SLAM, and he's in side control! He can't get the Americana, so he settles for small shots. A scramble sees Evloev on top, in half guard. He throws some hands and gets side control! He hits some elbows as the round ends, and it's over. 39-37 Topuria, altho it was a quite close round. Round 5: Feeling confident, Topuria starts some boxing exchanges, and he slightly outstrikes early. Finally, they seem to start getting a bit tired. Topuria shoots, and Evloev pulls guard. A scramble sees Evloev gain top control, in North-South position. He hits a few elbows, but Topuria manages to scramble his way back into control, as Evloev is now pulling guard. But another scramble sees Evleov get into side control! Damn. Evloev hits some elbows and fails with a kimura attempt. EVLOEV STARTS HITTING SOME BIG ELBOWS, AND TOPURIA GIVES UP HIS BACK! But Evloev can't get the RNC, as we're in the last seconds, and it's round over! It was a good, competitive bout, 48-47 for Topuria on my scorecard. Decisions: Sal D'Amato: 48-48. Ulrich Kroh: 48-47 Topuria. Nelson Hamilton: 49-46 Topuria. Winner, AND NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW ULITMABE B LEAGUE FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIOOON: ILIA TOPURIA (Majority decision: 49-46, 48-48, 48-47). Topuria went up in the world FW rankings, from #24 to #17, while Evloev fell from #10 to #15. 5. AND NOW, IT IS TIME FOR THE MAAAAAAAAAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING! A WELTERWEIGHT BOUT BETWEEN TWO YOUNG STUDS! #13 Albert "EINSTEIN" TUMENOV (21-4, +230) vs. #15 Yaroslav "DYNAMO" AMOSOV (25-0, -300) Round 1: Tumenov goes for the head kick straight away, but Amosov dodges and jabs. They trade a few jabs, AND TUMENOV HITS A DAMN HEAD KICK! But Amosov dodges the following flying knee and gets to keep his 0 for now! But a good feint fools Amosov, AND TUMENOV HITS A SECOND HEAD KICK! But it didn't connect as hard as the first. Spinning kick to the chest lands from Tumenov. Amosov manages to dodge some strikes and clinch! He gets Tumenov against the cage and suplexes him! AMOSOV GETS THE BACK! He can't get the RNC initially, so he hits some big strikes AND THEN GETS THE RNC! But the time runs out, as Tumenov survives! Hot start to this war! 10-9 Amosov. Round 2: Tumenov wants to keep Amosov at bay, but he only hits a jab before getting stuck in a clinch with this wrestling devil! Amosov hits a strong knee to the body. And a second one follows, before Amosov pushes Tumenov against the cage. ANOTHER SUPLEX AND AMOSOV HAS THE BACK AGAIN! BOTH HOOKS ARE IN, BUT TUMENOV DEFENDS THE RNC! BUT AMOSOV PERSISTS AND FINALLY GETS THE CHOKE, TUMENOV HAS TO TAP! AND HE DOES! IT IS ALL OVER! Winner: Yaroslav "DYNAMO" AMOSOV (RNC submission @3:21, round 2). Rating: Good. Post-fight: Amosov pays his respects to his opponent and says that there's a reason they main evented despite having no belt on the line. 21. And now, time to talk about OUR NEXT CARD, FEATURING SOME JUICY TITLE BOUTS AND A SLAVIC MAIN EVENT! UBL 3: BABUSHKA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT - Tumenov vs. Amosov 14 May 2021 Somewhere in East Europe Prelims: BW: Josh Hill vs. Raufeon Stots LW: Nate Andrews vs Thanh Le LW: #12 Steven Ray vs. Chris Wade LHW: #12 Maxim Grishin vs. Attila Vegh LHW: #10 Rashid Yusupov vs. #11 Aleksei Butorin MW: #7 Tom Breese vs. #11 Dricus Du Plessis FW: #7 Giga Chikadze vs. #11 Nate Landwehr Main card preview: 1. Welterweight Bout: #7 James KRAUSE (28-8, -180) vs. #8 Sean BRADY (13-0, +140) James Krause is coming off one of the weirdest UFC main card fights you'll ever see, where he beat Claudio da Silva. Still, he had a decent 9-4 run in the UFC and should make for a tough contender in the UBL's welterweight division. He's a pretty good technical striker on the feet and quite dangerous on the floor, with great submissions and good sweeping skills. His wrestling is his main weakness. Sean Brady is a top prospect who's coming off a 3-0 run in the UFC. He has good low kicks, dangerous knees in the thai clinch, good takedowns and a very good BJJ game, with sweeping being his only ground skill that's not up to par. This should be a great competitive fight, and as the promoter, I can't help but hope the younger Brady gets the W. Prediction: Brady by decision. 2. Lightweight Bout: #9 Rashid MAGOMEDOV (24-5-1, +100) vs. #11 Lando VANNATA (11-5-2, -110) Rashid is a top Russian fighter, having a 7-1 record in M-1 and also a 5-1 record in the UFC, with wins over Rocco Martin, Gilbert Burns and Bobby Green. He's coming off a win the ACA. He's a counter striker who likes to keep it on the feet, and, despite his mediocre technique, has good power in his punches and low kicks, and his conditioning is great as well. Lando is coming off a UD loss to Bobby Green in the UFC, ending his 3-5-2 UFC run. He's a good striker, with quite innovative offense on the feet, and also a capable wrestler. Expect to see 3 rounds of action on the feet as these two guys will try to pick each other apart. I believe Vannata wil have Rashid's number. Prediction: Vannata by decision. 3. HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT & Heavyweight Tournament Quarter-Final: © Sergey PAVLOVICH (16-1, +190) vs. #3 Alexander ROMANOV (14-0, -240) The winner of the first ever UBL Main Event, Sergey Pavlovich is a walking weapon, on a 4 fight winning streak, including 3 KOs. He's great all around, with the power of his hands and high kicks being his main weapons, and his sub' defence and bottom control being his only weaknesses. Moldavian King Kong Alex Romanov made his name in the company that Khabib bought, EFC, and also had a short run 2-0 run in the UFC, where he earned his 2 wins via submission. He's a choking machine, with 8/14 wins coming via choke submissions. He's a great wrestler who thrives in most kinds of grappling exchanges, and on the feet, altho he does lack technique, he packs a powerful punch and also has a great chin. This is a fighter with lots of potential, and he dominated Stefan Struve for 3 rounds to earn this title shot. This should be a great fight, and I think Romanov simply has the right skillset to dethrone Pavlovich. Prediction: Romanov by 5th round submission. 4. FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT: © Movsar EVLOEV (15-0, -110) vs. #2 Ilia TOPURIA (11-0, -110) Movsar Evloev had two great performances to becoem the first UBL champion back in January. He's a sambo fighter who feels best when in top control, but also has been developing his boxing, which we could honestly call "pretty good" at this point. Now, onto the challenger. After two impressive wins in the UFC, Topuria got a big UD victory against Daniel Weichel to prove he's worth a title shot. He might be one of the best wrestlers in the whole UBL, and he'll be a hellish test for Evloev. His ground game is great and well rounded, and he surely is superior to Evloev in the boxing department. Worth noting that Topuria loves mixing it up and striking the body. I think we'll see two title changes tonight. Prediction: Topuria by 3rd round submission. 5. Welterweight Main Event: #13 Albert TUMENOV (21-4, +230) vs. #15 Yaroslav AMOSOV (25-0, -300) Tumenov was the ACA WW champion, going 5-0 in the promotion, after his 5-3 UFC run. He's a head hunter who loves to strike and also is a capable grappler on the feet, although his ground game is lacking. After a dominating 6-0 run in Bellator, Yaroslav Amosov is ready to shine brighter than ever. A sambo wrestling god, he can probably take down a light heavyweight or a one-handed DC. His submission game and top control are pretty good, he often emerges on top from scrambles, and despite having a limited striking game, he has good power in his hands. I love Albert, but I don't see him taking away Amosov's O today. Altho' Amosov does love mixing it up and throwing some hands, so who knows? Prediction: Amosov by 3rd round submission. But what do you think, lads? Don't be shy! Gadzhiev is waiting for the right to try for the takedown, and as soon as he goes for it, Silva ends up pulling guard. Gadzhiev throws a few hands, and defends well when Silva tries to grab an arm. Gadzhiev tries to pass guard, but a scramble sees him get on to of Silva in North-South, and another one sees Silva turtled under Gadzhiev. And then he hits another wonderful straight right! Omielanczuk stays alive, tho. Omielanczuk hits a pair of jabs and takes two more big shots from Goncharov. They land more small shots and it's round over. Clear 10-9 for Goncharov. Round 2: As Omielanczuk is being patient, Goncha hits him with a cross.
