  1. As with anything in professional wresting, I find it hard to take these 'shoots' seriously. The amount of times I've watched or listened to a guy completely bury another worker or company (usually Triple H and WWE), and then end up working for them again a few years later, is laughable.

But hey, anything for that $$$ I suppose.

On that note, I just got through with Bill DeMott's book that came out in 2011, just before he was re-hired as the head trainer of NXT. Anyone else read it? Was quite good. In terms of the WWE doctors that Punk mentions, DeMott says in his book that he was having pain his neck and back, so WWE sent him to a doctor, who told him he needed surgery. When this got back to WWE, they sent him to another doctor, and another, until they found a doctor who said there was no need to operate. So I think I believe Punk what he says about the doctors, having now heard it from two sources.

  2. The 2 major matches (Main event and Bray vs Ambrose) were good, IMO, and the Tag Title match in the undercard was fun. Not including the Pre-Show which I rarely watch, that leaves 3 undercard matches that weren't particularly good. The only real disappointment was Nikki and AJ not getting the chance to have a proper match.

Obviously this all comes down to personal opinion, but I was a little bored - I over exaggerated a little, as I enjoyed Ambrose/Wyatt, but I was still a little bored for the majority of the show, until the main event.

  3. Yes SS was awesome. The only real criticism I'm reading here or anywhere else is "Meh. First two hours were average. Main event was the only thing memorable."

Oh you mean that breathtaking HOUR of WWE programming? LOL. Hate it break it to you, wrestling fans, but since you're so used to complaining all the time you don't even know when you're being entertained. If you watch a mediocre undercard and the last hour was a universally loved AWESOME main event... you just watched a hell of a PPV. Thank me later, folks.

I have to disagree. If only 1/3rd of the show is "good", how can the whole show be "good"? If the majority of the show is average of below, but the main event is above average, then the show gets an average score (or so that's what TEW would tell us ;)).

I recently watched the new Godzilla movie, and didn't like it, except the last half an hour. Liking the last half an hour didn't make a two hour long movie good. It annoyed me that they spent so much time on the "finish" of the movie that the rest of it was neglected and felt like filler. Same can be said for Survivor Series. If I'm bored for two hours of a three hour PPV, I do not see that as a success.

  4. Okay first of all, I somehow missed that there were more writers than Punk involved. Secondly, I never once said that the established writers would be hurt by Punk getting to write a comic. I said that it would affect the newer writers, which I will probably be proven wrong about, what with the other new writers being involved.

When I heard about this, I read it as Punk being given a Thor special all to himself just because he was famous and it came off as massively hypocritical to me for a man from an industry where paying your dues is required, not just expected, to go into another industry and not have to pay any dues at all. That's all I was trying to say.

Sorry, I made the mistake of not reading your previous comment properly. Just re-read your comment and some of what I said may have been off.

    My apologies.

  5. This is pretty much right, except for the part about annuals being "non-cannon" [sic]. Your arms need to be pretty long to make the reach that Punk is somehow a hypocrite somehow for leaving WWE and doing something else that he wants to do.

Some famous, totally canon annuals: Spider-Man Annual 21 (Spidey marries Mary Jane), Fantastic Four 3 (Reed and Sue marry), and 6 (Franklin Richards is born), Avengers Annual 10 (Rogue debuts, steals Carol Danvers' powers, memories). The trend of publishing annuals died out at Marvel after the boom around 1994. Marvel doesn't really publish them now because they're not on a 12 issue a month schedule, so there's really no need for them.

Yeah, perhaps I was strecthing with my annuals comment. :o

  6. Comics are almost as ruthless as wrestling when it comes to work environments. It's an eat or be eaten situation where celebrities like CM Punk coming in can certainly disrupt a promising creator's career. By doing this Punk is taking attention away from other Marvel series and, since people only buy so many comics each month, disrupting the sales of new and up-and-coming series.

So no, he's not reaching, if anything he's not reaching far enough. As Punk has yet to prove he can even competently write a comic. IMO, this is more like giving a celebrity a championship just because they're more famous than your wrestlers.

The Thor Annual #1, which CM Punk is involved on, is a collection of 10 page stories, mostly from new writers. Are they all stealing work from those that are already established, or should we not allow new people to break into the industry, regardless of their backgrounds?

There's also a huge difference between a pro-wrestler returning after a decade to win the title in his first swoop and stick around for a month or so and someone changing careers entirely. CM Punk isn't coming in at the top for a one shot deal pay, he's coming with the aim of making it a career, and let's not forget that he's writing part of an annual. An annual? I've been buying comics for almost 15 years and only once have I bothered with an annual, as they are usually (and will be in this case, too) non-cannon and just a way for writers to experiment. Let's not act like he's coming in and 'taking spots', as that spot was never meant for anyone else. New writers were always going to be on this project.

    Wrestling fans right now:

"How dare they keep shoving the same wrestlers down our throats every week! They should let some of the newer guys take a shot!"

"How dare they bring in these new writers at Marvel! The established writers should be front and centre, at all times!"

  7. Will you add nGo (Organic Pictures) to the list of graphical mods and mark them freeware?

could my iMPACT Rising mod please also be added?

If RayW is still around, Risky Business (Jan 1985) is now released and can be found at this thread:

Thought I'd mention it so that the front page can be updated accordingly.

    All added.

I've also updated some of the links where the threads have changed (ie version 2 thread is now replaced version 1, etc.)

  8. I live in the UK and i refuse to pay for Sky, Sky Sports and Box Office for WWE so i find other means, I would pay if it was a reasonable price

I don't have the Sky Sports package as, quite frankly, I refuse to pay the price just so I can watch the odd football match and recorded Raw. I was looking forward to an On Demand service for WWE, but if it becomes a normal channel, I just won't bother with it at all.

  9. They insist on putting the letter "u" in words that do not need it. We need to get our revenge some how. :p

Americans insist on removing the letter "u" from words that originally have the letter in. You also refer to chips as fries and crisps as chips. Strange folk :p

I'm honestly a little gutted that I couldn't sign up for the Network tonight, but I know I can wait, hopefully it won't be too long a wait, though. A little explanation wouldn't have gone a miss, even if they just blamed it on technical difficulties. Ah well.

  10. Kind of weird having the Dollmaker in Gotham, after already seeing him in Arrow..... must be his father? Could explain the Queen Consolidated logo from Arrow being on a building though.

I may be wrong but I'm certain they've said that Gotham isn't a part of the same universe as Arrow and Flash, so any characters that appear in this and those series' aren't the same character.

  11. Anyone watching Gotham? Thoughts?

Donal Logue's take on Bullock is fantastic. Otherwise, I'm not nuts about it. I just think conceptually it's a dumb idea. I'd have loved to have been in that pitch meeting.

"I'm going to make a Batman show. Only there's not Batman in it. And you know how what makes Batman awesome is that it's an action story about vengeance, grief, emotional trauma, and identifying our defining pain? Well none of that will be present in this show. It'll be a slow police procedural."

I don't know who this show is aimed at but the writing is too dumb for it to hold it's own among popular contemporary adult dramas like Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, etc. It's too cheesy. Now one of my favorite shows is Arrow and has it's share of cheesy dialogue, but it's also an ACTION SHOW. It's centered around chasing down and fighting bad guys. This show is a slow drama with almost no action. It's like Law and Order for teenagers.

I don't think Gotham is meant to be an action show. It's basically a police drama set in a comic book world. Even before the pilot I was expecting a police drama, and I enjoyed the first two shows. I don't think this is any cheesier than Arrow (which sometimes make me cringe), but I think you've gone into this show with false expectation. From the start they said it was about Jim Gordon coming to Gotham and his struggle with dirty cops, etc. of course there will be cheesy moments as it's based on a comic book, but overall, yeah, it's a police drama, not an action show. :)

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, I was busy. I don't think I'll do this at the weekends as that's family time in my household, so I'll be with my wife and daughter. :)

  13. Game Dev Tycoon is well worth the pick up if you don't have it already.

I agree, I already own it, it's a really good game.

Also, I included the RPG Maker titles, even though they aren't games. For that cut in price I thought it was well worth sharing them, especially in a creative community like this.
