Yes, Cena has been the "funny guy" at times, but he was still built like a video game character and was never portrayed as goofy or cowardly in the ring. Santino's a small comedy wrestler that's over as an underdog. How quickly do you think fans would cool on his shtick if he actually won a world title? It would make Rey Mysterio's title reign look like one for the ages. How is he still a comedy underdog if he's champion?

You have the new GM outraged. Outraged that someone the likes of this clown managed to somehow sneak himself into being World/WWE Champion. Santino continues to be Santino in the ring, all the while BARELY escaping with the title as he GM throws everything he/she can at them.

Slowly but surely people begin to realize Santino's not as dumb as he is funny, and his wrestling style's to his benefit instead of his detriment. How do you adapt to wrestling someone like Santino? You underestimate him, not realizing the talent he actually has. Eventually, he'd be taken serious by the competition and the GM, and Santino crosses the line to becoming both serious and goofy in the ring, at the same time.

It's doable. You just gotta work for it.

Edit: To further comment, I could see this going for a 5-6 month run or so before someone finally beats him. A Jericho type heel, solid in the ring, capable of holding a good, fun match with Santino. Santino becomes your lower tier main eventer. Not feuding over the US title anymore, but not winning the big one. He can challenge for it and even feud over it, and be believable in a chance at winning it for a second time, but his main role becomes elevating a heel from the mid card to his level so they can break into the main event. This also gives your current heels someone to work solid matches with and get wins over, that won't hurt them, but isn't just some jobber.

All I ever remember Cena being is 'white guy in jean shorts who raps sometimes' - surely a darker take on his character would revitalise him, and give a couple of younger guys the chance to be his foil? Someone said he's 35, so he can't have that long left...give him a few years playing the bad guy, let him go and do some more terrible movies then bring him back in his early 40's for a good guy nostalgia fest.

Hogan got away with it (good guy, bad guy, good guy nostalgia run) - why not this guy?

10 year olds don't buy heel t-shirts.

They all need build up, all the time. All three are way to entertaining to not build up. I know you weren't talking about age, but I always feel because of the conversation sometimes, that it's as if Punk and Bryan are this "new generation", as if Cena isn't in that generation.

However, I agree with you on the fact that Cena doesn't need to be involved in it, but he's going to have to be if he goes for the title, no matter if AJ is involved or not (but she needs to be, unless all the sudden they drop that whole story-line). That's why I was hoping they kept him out of that whole scene, and just brought people back for him to fued with (Rock, Brock, anyone really), so that they still get his drawing power.

The only problem with that is if he doesn't every once in a while, get his hands on the title, he won't stay a draw. You don't want them to lose Cena's drawing power, because that's when you will see EVERYTHING circle around him til' he gets it back (too much money there).

Cena's not gonna lose drawing power until he can no longer wrestle a regular schedule. He's beyond that.

As far as AJ, I'm kinda hoping after this feud, she winds up with neither man, and moves on to someone/something else. She's into anyone who's into her. Doesn't have to be guys involved in this feud.

People truly despise him. Alot of heels right now are so fun to watch that we cheer for them. Otunga is really special at drawing out that hatred from the crowd. And his ring work has improved a bit. If you ask me he's still the weakest from that initial NXT/Nexus crew in the ring, but at least he's not stand-out bad like he was.

Otunga's got all the upside you could ask for. The man's well spoken, intelligent, in amazing condition, and working the WWE style seems to be natural to him.

He's only got two actual problems holding him back, and both can be fixed. He needs to take some time away from in ring action and work with someone who actually knows how to wrestle. Let someone like Bryan or Punk spend some time working with him, and there's no telling how much of a change we could see.

Then they need to quit making him the jobber to the main eventers. If he's shown as unable to hold his own, no one's ever going to take him serious. Doesn't matter how talented someone is, if they're never presented as a challenger, they're never going to BE a challenger. With the right push and a little hard work, I could see Otunga holding the WWE title someday.

Another NXT guy I was all about (like Heath Slater) that everyone else wasn't sold on. Gabriel's grown on me. Otunga can go jump off a bridge.

  10. I am digging the Bray Wyatt character. Giving the right push and time it looks like he could end up with a cult of "followers" willing to do his bidding, similar to Raven's Flock in WCW. He has the experience of wrestling on RAW, Smackdown (I think) and various PPV's so being in front of a big crowd should not be an issue.

Until you see how a live RAW crowd reacts to a gimmick, it's an issue. Being able to keep 200 people entertained is awesome, if you're working for Chikara, but that's not going to cut it in WWE.

I hope the gimmick sticks, and I hope you're right with the Flock reference. How often do we see cult followings actually HAVE a cult following though? I just don't see creative knowing how to use this effectively.

  11. Not sure if anyone's kept up with Husky Harris's new character, Bray Wyatt, but do so. The promo packages, the live promos, and the matches are all indicative of a great character and wrestler. I hope that when he returns from I jury he can make it off of NXT and onto the main shows. Ecause the character is fantastic. Just YouTube Bray Wyatt for all of your entertainment needs.

    Gotta agree.

So, here's my confusion at the moment, as far as NXT goes. I didn't watch the last few seasons, so I'm not entirely sure when this change happened, but the first couple of seasons were done in front of the big crowd, yeah? It gave them a much better gauge of crowd reaction and let the guys work in front of a larger crowd.

Seems like a far more productive way to handle it, as opposed to the 200 person shows they're running now with dead crowds.

  12. I remember him being asked what his secret was (Heyman), and he said something to the extent of... It's easy, here are the bad guys, you build them up, have them kick butt, build them up and build them up, then bring in the good guy that's going to kick their butt. Simple formula. Doesn't matter if they can wrestler or not, you take what they can do and build that part up, take what they can't do and hide it. Simple, nothing to it. Who are these two guys? Why are they fighting? And why should I care? If you can answer those questions, you'll sell a ticket or a ppv. If you can't answer the questions, who's going to buy it?

    Exactly.

  13. yeah, I'm whining about it, because it's ridiculous theyre being used to get some other generic diva over, rather than getting themselves over. well I guess theyre getting over, just in a pointless way

How're they gonna get themselves over?

    "YES!"

"I'm the best in the world!"

"NO! I'm the best in the world!"

    "I'm straight edge!"

    "YES!"

    ...Yawn.

AJ made this feud watchable. When it comes PPV time, they'll do their thing in the ring. Week to week though, they'd fall way short without her.

  14. as for this, where do you think all the wrestlers they have now came from for the most part? they aren't exactly the same. They actually have talent.

    ROFL.

    Alright.

Wrestlers that came from ROH: 3

    Yeap. That's most, alright.

Btw? 2 of those 3, you're whining about what they're doing.

The other? Can't quit doing dumb stuff long enough to get on tv.

Edit: FOUR. I'm sorry. Forgot Claudio.

Wanna count Ohno and Rollins to give you six? Still not even CLOSE to half.

  15. I don't mind some segments. but I like decent wrestling. but then again this is Sports Entertainment crap. Character development, of all the same NXT guys yet they job out decent wrestlers like Jack Swagger and Drew McIntyre. I just don't get it

    "All the same NXT guys"

    There's.....2.

Seriously. Come on now. Just go watch some ROH and mark out to the next guy that gets fake kicked so hard he back flips.

  16. To be honest, I don't go to sites to get my information. Have a friend, who absolutely hates TNA, who mentioned the hour extension before deciding not to talk about TNA anymore at all, so I wasn't aware of what exactly it entailed.

I tend to avoid going to sites because I like to keep some things a surprise for myself. Makes it a lot easier to be a wrestling fan again when I don't know everything and try to judge on work rate alone.
