  1. My girlfriend's potentially on her way out of my life, and it looks like I might be getting a collection of hats together to eat.... *sigh*
  2. Uh oh! Anderson is sporting his evil Anderson look from his PRIDE days. He's got his "Hollywood" Hogan going on with his goatee. He had a similar little goatee going on around the time he caved Carlos Newton's skull in. I can't wait to see Anderson actually put a beating on someone for a change again.
  3. You can be one pound over your weight division and still be within the limits in most states. You get two hours to make weight upon failure, and only one attempt. At that point they negotiate purse cuts and whether or not the fight goes forth as a catchweight bout.
  4. It's up to the fighters and their management to decide whether the fight goes through. Generally the fighter that doesn't make weight gives up 15-20% of his fight purse to the other fighter.
  5. I'd be willing to bet that if Thiago makes the weight and loses to Fitch that his days at Welterweight are numbered, and rightfully so. Right after I posted this, UFC's twitter reported that Alves has missed weight the second time, and will forfeit 20% of his purse to fight.
  6. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="juggaloninjalee" data-cite="juggaloninjalee" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>They could turn Cena heel by having him and 1 other member of his team (Morrison maybe?) going against 2 Nexus guys. Then Cena turns on Morrison. Walks out letting himself be counted out. This allows Cena to be off television promoting his movie while Morrison continues to call out Cena. Saying what he did was cowardly blah blah blah... This angle could get Morrison over. When Cena returns it could be by running in on Morrison.<p> </p><p> I dunno it would be cool because Morrison I see as our generations Shawn Michaels in a sense. He reminds me of HBK when he had his IC run.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> If they turn Cena heel I seriously doubt it would be to set up some kind of program with John Morrison. The Miz pretty much said it best, Morrison hasn't really done anything of any substance since him and Miz were champs. He's a decent wrestler, albeit nothing that makes you scream "I NEED TO SEE THIS GUY PERFORM!" He also works way better as a heel than a face, so him doing a program with Cena just seems for nothing.</p><p> </p><p> I think people are just investing too much into this... They aren't going to turn Cena heel before he releases a movie anyway. </p><p> </p><p> And honestly, The Nexus doesn't really need Cena to get over. And if the WWE believes that, then they've really missed the boat on this one.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I also think if Joey Styles can knock JBL on his ass, Husky Harris would do far worse</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Well, in all fairness... A) There were people in the mix separating them from anything happening, and Joey Styles took advantage of being the smaller guy(thus not being restrained as much), and threw a sucker punch more than anything else. It doesn't matter if the sucker punch was for a sucker or not <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> and B) Who the hell would expect Joey Styles to throw a punch in the first place? That in itself is just astounding, which is why it was such hot news when it happened. </p><p> </p><p> I seriously doubt Styles would have thrown that punch at JBL if there weren't a lot of people around, some of which were probably egging him on due to the dislike of JBL in the back. Regardless it happened, Husky just looks like someone ideal that JBL would be all over. Though maybe the fact that he's a generation wrestler it might cancel it out. I guess I just miss JBL... lol</p>
  7. Anyone else think JBL would have harassed Husky Harris severely if he was still with the company?
  8. <p>The last time I was this amped for a fight Chuck and Wanderlei were about to finally throw down for real. </p><p> </p><p> I stand by everything I've said about Sonnen, and still look for him to soundly get his ass demolished on Saturday night, but the dude could sell a pair of hole-filled pants to a rich man, and tell them it's a "new import", and he'd sell it. </p><p> </p><p> Anderson fighting always sells the fight to me, but seeing an opponent really sell it and knowing Anderson is fuming... Oh what a fight it could be. </p><p> </p><p> Kind of surprising to hear Anderson refer to all of his future and former opponents as "idiots" though. Chael has really ruffled his feathers... which is most likely a bad thing when you've got a guy that doesn't really need motivation to pound your face. </p><p> </p><p> My predictions:</p><p> </p><p> Silva - severe ass-beating for Sonnen, I hope. But realistically, unless Anderson is using reverse psychology, I think Sonnen has won the fight mentally already. It was really weird to hear Anderson refer to all of his opponents past and present as idiots in front of everyone. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Fitch - paint drying decision(fight may not even happen if any of the rumors about Thiago's current health and weight are true. Dude weighed over 200 pounds on Tuesday according to his twitter. Good reason to view the weigh ins.)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> dos Anjos - Too many submissions. He's still young and putting his game together, but some of the stuff he's able to do is just ridiculous. He's also pretty patient, which is going to nip into Clay's game plan and style a bit. Guida's been surprising in the past, but I think dos Anjos takes it with a submissions after a crafty sweep.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Hughes - I'm from the Midwest. I can't not pick Hughes. Almeida hasn't looked like Genki Sudo-style Almeida in years, he's not the same fire. This is Matt's fight to lose. If he still cares, he should win a decision. If he's just in it for the cash at this point, it could be a pretty close fight. But I'm sticking with a Hughes wrestling decision.</p><p> </p><p> Nelson - I'm actually taking the upset here too, by TKO. Haven't got a chance to see dos Santos on his back yet, and Nelson is crafty enough to get him there a couple of times. I mean the dude has had side control on a lot of his opponents, so it's not outside the realm of possibilities. Plus, with as much Burger King as Nelson eats, you know his jaw has to be strong from all the chewing.</p>
  9. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Zoloftjunkie" data-cite="Zoloftjunkie" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I really don't understand the appeal of sonens antics. If this is what it takes to make a fight interesting then you must be looking at a bad fight about to happen. This isn't pro wrestling, I don't need theatrics to get me excited to see a fight. All I need is two skilled fighters going in to see who the better man is. If only there could be more classy and respectfull fighters like my man K-flo.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Trash talking and prize fighting have been pretty much been hand-in-hand since Muhammed Ali started incorporating pro wrestling style trash talk into boxing... And I'm sure there was trash talking even before then. But it's always been heavily apart of it since then, and there's probably no turning back.</p><p> </p><p> Trash talking has built some of the best fights in the history of the sport, and as long as it's all for the sake of building the fight and it's nothing seriously personal then it's all the better. A lot of fans only care about the fact that two people are fighting... so the more real and personal it feels the better.</p><p> </p><p> I mean... for example... Wanderlei Silva and Quinton Jackson trash talked each other through out all three of their epic battles. Would those fights have been the same without the heated staredowns, and mouthing? Probably not. Would anyone have really cared about Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz's fight on a large scale without all the hype and controversy? Probably not. And let's be honest, BJ Penn calling out Sean Sherk and busting his balls for the steroid stuff -definitely- got that pay per view more buys. </p><p> </p><p> Another thing is, pre-fight hype and trash talking is a way for some guys to get motivated. And it's a great way to get inside weak minds and cripple them before the fight starts. Psychology is apart of any sport.</p>
  10. Simple; the title is on The Miz, and he's one of the most over people in the company... It doesn't matter if he's actively defending it, he's talking about it and making it important, or at least he has been doing the past two weeks. I will say that the US title has somewhat taken a backseat on being defended now that he's gotten The Money in the Bank. But honestly, not sure what you want from the US title. It's basically been a prop since WWE started using it. No one has really done anything with it, but at least the Miz is holding it, and he's half way interesting which is more than you can say for someone like MVP.
  11. Kaval has more fans than just "Kaval" fans. A lot of people know him as Low Ki from his ROH and TNA days. I have a friend who's what you would call casual at best, he just watches the WWE(RAW particularly), but he knew who Kaval was. Kaval's style is meant to get you into him, and it does. He's got a very unique style, and he's only expanded on it since his developmental contract. I think a lot of you have forgotten what it's like when Rey faces guys that are his own size, especially other ring generals like Kaval. I'm not saying the guy is going to win the world title, but he's going to give guys like Evan Bourne and Rey Mysterio something to do, and it's going to be exciting as hell. ---------------------------------------- As far as The Miz is concerned, they did do a poor job of keeping you reminded he was the US champion. But they've started kicking it into overdrive here recently, and they're acknowledging it all the time. They've actually been bringing some flavor and credibility back to the belts, though not really sure what's going on with Kane and his title. Husky Harris is going to end up being a tag team wrestler, unless he really starts working on his physique and mic skills. I realize his gimmick is to be a bad ass fat man, but I just don't see him winning any single's belts at the start. I'd like to see him featured in tag team action, and really would like to see the WWF go back to that early 90's blueprint of building up stars through tag teams. We haven't seen that done effectively in so long. I can't stand Percy Watson. He tries too hard, his facial mannerisms make him look like he's constantly got a bloated diarrhea feeling in his stomach. He's pretty piss poor when making stuff look legit in the ring. Last night for example in his match, when he grapevined the arm and was hitting it... Those punches looked absolutely stupid. The guy obviously has some athletic gifts, he jumps like Kevin Randleman when he does a leapfrog. But he's green as hell everywhere else. Lots of charisma, a good physique, but poor wrestling skills when it's not down to being athletic or flashy. Plus, he's pretty slow considering all of the dropkicks and jumping he does. Alex Riley has a good star quality about him, but still not sold on him as he hasn't really shown his own personality much... mostly held down by the cloud of awesome that is The Miz. I'm trying really hard to get into Joe Hennig, as his father holds two titles in my mind... Best psychology match of all time; Summerslam 91 with Bret Hart and quite honestly, the fearless award... For wanting to grapple with Brock Lesnar thousands of feet above ground on an airplane But Joe's got the cards stacked against him... Really dumb name(Joe Hennig would have been much better, though not copyrightable), equally dumb finisher that looks just like a standard swinging neckbreaker until you see it in slow motion, and even then it looks pretty weak to me most of the time. I think he would have gotten over more easily using the damn Hennig Plex, and them explaining that that he was a master of the move, as it was handed down from his father. If you're going to give him a standard move as a finisher, at least give him something that has a bit of nostalgia to get him over. They're already going the "This is Curt Hennig's son" route... So why not?
  12. Kaval is in the same boat as Bryan Danielson though, he doesn't really need to look good on the show... And it's not like he's losing to Percy Watson, he's lost twice in a row to Husky, whom they're trying to make something special. I can promise you they're putting hopes on Mysterio and Kaval putting some asses in the seats, that's going to be the money feud for Kaval post NXT. As for Hennig, they needed a way to make the competition seem more balanced, and they probably didn't want to have him lose to another NXT guy, so Miz was the logical choice. It's a double plus in my eyes... Hennig gets that rub from being in there with Miz, who lets be honest, is the star of NXT this season. And Miz gets the win, and will be able to hold the fact that Hennig wasn't perfect at the end of the season. They wanted to feud Danielson and Miz, maybe they'll feud Miz and Hennig for the US title.
  13. Things that were well done last night: Selling the match at Summerslam between Nexus and RAW All Stars... Good build up as you're going to get, until the week before when they throw down some epic video package that reminds you why you still tune into The E anyway. Teasing Edge/Jericho as a team again, something we all wanted to see before Edge got hurt... They're sticking their toes in the water to see how it goes, hope it goes through. John Cena/Chris Jericho match... Aside from a few botched moves, the match was well done... Jericho's acting was A+, look at the dude's eyes and watch how they change as he goes through the motion.(after the match during the promo) Hell, even the women were interesting in the ring last night outside of just being T&A. One of the best RAW's I've seen in a long time, and the WWE has really started reeling me back in as a fan that's been absent for a couple of years. How many times did Earthquake, Andre, or whoever you want to choose from Super God Hogan era get in Hogan's face and how many times did Hogan slap that big bastage? Zero. Cena is this era's Hulk Hogan, a do-good do-right all the time who worships the fans, and the business, and really wants everyone to like him... that's storyline wise, and most likely the truth for his real person. Not every face can be the vengeful Stone Cold Steve Austin.... After all that's what made him so unique. Orton is the closest thing to what you're asking for, and as long as we're in a more PG market, it's probably all you'll get.
  14. Lightweight division just got a bit more exciting now with the Gomi win. Decent fights, Jones won as expected. Nothing groundbreaking, except the Gomi KO of course... That KO was awesome. Griffin fell like time froze. How epic would Takanori Gomi vs. Melvin Guillard be for a main event of a future UFC on Versus?
  15. I have to admit, I laughed a little when I read your Ellenberger prediction. I'm cutting Gomi some slack on his performance against Florian. I know Gomi hasn't looked like the worldbeater that PRIDE and Shooto made him out to be for so long, but I can't help but be a fan of the guy. Been a fan since I saw him Street Fighter Turbo style knee that Gracie half to death in a few seconds on one of the Bushidos. --------------- Just watched the weigh-ins for Jones/Vlad... No Joe Rogan for the weigh-in = deadest crowd of all time. It was like they dropped Mike Goldberg off at a Zombie convention or something, because there was nothing but silence and groans from the crowd.
  16. I agree, we're both on polar opposites it seems. I do tend to agree with some of the stuff you write, but more often than not in our society there's criticism more-so than praise. I'm a victim and offender of such, as are most. I don't take it personally, however. Debate, combat, and things that make you go "oooh" and "ahhh" are what we live for as a society after all. On the end note, I will say this... The only reason I brought up Sonnen's recent loss to Maia is the fact that it's, well, recent... Anderson has been near perfect, even in the fights he goofed around in, for I don't know how many fights now. Being a champion fighter is learning from your mistakes and overcoming them, which I believe Silva has more than done.... Sonnen has a chance to prove me wrong, I'm going to buy it regardless. ---- Predictions for UFC on Versus 2 Jones by TKO Munoz by Split Howard by U. Dec Gomi by TKO(Upset Special pick) Volkmann by submission Johnson by U. Dec Irvin by TKO Stann by TKO Charles Oliveira by submission Kimmons by U. Dec Actually, Henderson was pretty effective at nullifying Anderson's knees; think he only ate one the whole fight. Henderson got the clinch takedown in the first... Funny thing about the second is Henderson tried two takedowns, and Anderson ended up taking him down both times instead. It eventually led to Anderson drilling Hendo on the temple with a good punch hard enough to smack his head off the mat, and then he sunk in the choke shortly after. If you watch the first round takedown again, check out how awesome Anderson's guard is to keep Henderson from passing off the good slam. He might not have World Champion BJJ skills, but the guy is extremely innovative with his ground game. Anderson isn't anything special in terms of technique, he's just got such long legs and charisma that some of the stuff he tries is just unthinkable. Like that guard I was talking about, and how easily he keeps a body triangle on someone. Most people can't keep a body triangle on like that for as long as he can, as it puts a lot of pressure on your own leg(s). It just shows how freakishly dexterous Anderson is.
  17. Okay, allow me to correct myself then... I'm not disregarding Sonnen as a wrestler, or even a fighter worthy of being in the UFC... But I am disregarding him as a potential Middleweight crownbearer. The dude is no threat to Silva whatsoever. I said Dan Henderson had the best chance of a middleweight as a wrestler in beating Silva, and I meant it... Sonnen has nothing to back his wrestling up, which means Silva isn't going to be concerned and can just focus on avoiding the takedowns and punching Sonnen in the grill. Henderson on the other hand has proven heavy hands, and some decent boxing. He clips people, and that's all it takes. So Silva had that to worry about, and to Henderson's credit he did land a few on Anderson. So yeah, I am disregarding Sonnen as a challenger to the belt. The guy's a decent fighter for what he has, but what he has isn't nearly enough. Being a world class wrestler and getting judo thrown to the ground and tapped by a mounted triangle is pretty juvenile jiu jitsu for a high level fighter, am I wrong?
  18. Maybe you should do some research into the whole Sonnen/BJJ is Gay ordeal before asking me if I'm serious about it. This was back before Sonnen even fought Filho the first time in WEC, before anyone really even knew who he was. He got a lot of heat, and some people even refused to train with him because he was a straight up homophobe all the time. Take it, or don't. I really don't care, but don't call out my facts if you aren't going to bother looking them up. Sonnen said training BJJ was for "fags" and he hated having another dude between his legs... As I said, this was a LONG time before he was Mr. ®, and had fans. I come to the conclusion that his striking is poor based on watching his fights. He's tentative all the time, has no power, and usually just throws 1 punch at a time. I'd say his stand-up is below Matt Hughes, honestly. Sure, it worked for Hendo for one round, and the following round he got his head bounced off the canvas with a good punch and choked out. Don't even bring up Lutter... He got gifted a takedown when Anderson barely missed that flying knee, and the other time Lutter wore himself out crawling after Anderson for it. Also, could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Henderson's takedown wasn't a double, it was a clinched body lock that ended up looking like a belly to belly suplex, and Henderson did nothing with it aside from hug Anderson. The -only- reason Henderson was able to get inside to do that was because he BOXED with Anderson first. Sonnen doesn't have the balls or the ability to do that, nor the chin for that matter. Done arguing, because this is honestly starting to feel like arguing with a sherdogger.
  19. I don't really need Joe Rogan telling me that Anderson has a good ground game when I've seen Anderson grapple with Jacare, and do well. And also, it's not like Sonnen hasn't been tapped other times, it wasn't just Maia... It was just Maia who exposed how juvenile Sonnen's jiu jitsu really is.(or gay jitsu as he calls it, as he has no respect for the art - he said that himself, long before he was ever ® and popular) I'm not disregarding Sonnen, he's a good wrestler with poor striking and average submission defense. Dan Henderson had the best chance as a wrestler of beating Anderson, and I don't care that it's different styles... Sonnen can shoot from the outside all day, and it's just going to make for a really boring fight because Anderson will just resort to shadow boxing, dancing, and by the end of it will probably call Filho into the ring for a tea party all the while STILL avoiding Sonnen's harmless TD attempts. Having a great double-leg shot with no threat to set it up = Anderson Silva laughing and collecting a paycheck.
  20. Wait, you were upset that Mark Henry got buried/lost? O_O Welcome to the minority, sir. I'd be perfectly happy if they handed Henry his walking papers, and we never had to see him again. Would have been pretty lame for build-up if WWE's C-Team was able to put up a good fight against the Nexus, and would pretty solidly kill any hype for a WWE A-Team vs. Nexus match at Summerslam. I don't regularly watch NXT, but I viewed last night. Can anyone explain to me what the hell this "Mustache" thing is about?
  21. Anderson lost to two cans in PRIDE, good job. How many fights by submission has Anderson lost since he was in the UFC? Oh, what's that, he hasn't lost, and he's dominantly won all of his fights? Oh my. You're so caught up in Sonnen's trolling that he's made you forget just how inconsistent and laughable his grappling is. This is a guy who can't strike to save his life, and that's where the majority of this fight is taking place(assuming Anderson doesn't just work him in the first round for a stoppage). Anderson's going to sit back, and use his long limbs to clobber Sonnen... And if the fight ever hits the ground and Sonnen actually wins, I'll eat the world's biggest collection of hats.
  22. Not really much to think about... You're using MMA Math to dispel MMA Math? What difference does it make how good at grappling/submissions someone is? That'd be a viable argument if all Silva had at his disposal was an "overrated" bottom control. Unfortunately for Chael Anderson also has about... I dunno, five other ways to completely pulverize him? Chael's gonna put Silva on his ass, at least one in the fight with a takedown. It's a given, it's all the guy is good at. But the first time Sonnen tastes any of Silva's power, and it goes to the ground, Silva will win.. And it doesn't matter if it's top, bottom, side... Wherever the fight ends up, Sonnen is done. I kill your argument with Demian Maia throwing big bad wrassler Sonnen on his head, and subbing him with a MOUNTED triangle. Also, Jeremy Horn beat Sonnen 3 times, I mean come on...
  23. Anderson is going to kickbox Chael to a decision. Also, Anderson's choked Dan Henderson out.... So no, his ground game isn't just proven on "tapping a dehydrated Travis Lutter", but nice try at fanboi-dom. It's just hilarious that people want to act like Sonnen has any sort of chance with Silva anywhere. Chael is still the same guy who got Judo thrown onto his back and tapped out in a couple of seconds by Maia with a mounted triangle..... Okay? Jeremy Horn had his way with Sonnen three times, this isn't going to be any challenge whatsoever for Anderson. I hope some of you people are putting some money on Sonnen so you can feel the humble effect when Anderson knocks him down like a game of Stax.
  24. I've been watching a few WWE DVDs this week. I bought the Elimination Chamber DVD at Best Buy, and they had a buy one, get one free going. So I grabbed World's Greatest Managers. Two things: 1) WWE dropped the ball on a second serious wave of Bill Goldberg sweeping the nation. In the elimination chamber match that Triple H won by beating Goldberg with the sledgehammer.... Big mistake in booking there. Was it because they didn't expect him to be -that- over, or the "non-home grown, no real push" effect? Regardless... Who knows what would have happened if Goldberg got the strap during that match... I will say this though, watch the match and tell me that spinebuster he hits on Randy Orton isn't the most impactful move you've ever seen. Not a Goldberg fan, but he had me hooked during that Chamber match, for sure. 2) WWE needs more managers. They've got a perfect opportunity here with DiBiase Jr. and Maryse. They should have Maryse get more involved. I think that's part of what's left wrestling so stagnant, not just lack of real competition. There's plenty of fleshing in certain angles and interviews, but it just seems like once the action hits the ring there's no depth. Realistically we're -never- going to have late 80's, early 90's WWF wrestling again, but how I wish. We need a Bobby Heenan in this era that can make us give a damn about the heels that are going against Hulk Cena. Also... Are you kidding me? Go back and watch some of his WCW and early WWF matches. He has the total package. The thing is, during the Attitude Era the style of pro wrestling changed in the mainstream. Triple H adopted a much more brawl-oriented style, and it got him more over than any fluid wristlocks and flashy transitions. H's can do it all in the ring, aside from the aerial artistry. Injuries and time have obviously taken their toll as well, which is why he isn't as quick these days.
  25. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Daffanka" data-cite="Daffanka" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Aside from the UK event the line up of UFC cards are looking really solid.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Yeah, 120 is really shaping up to be a letdown... I mean, Hardy vs. Condit still sells it for me in the sense that I'll watch it. </p><p> </p><p> But I'm a lot less enthusiastic about seeing Akiyama fight, especially against Bisping... The whole card has this feel of UFC 120: Stepdown. I know MMAth is stupid in most cases but isn't it sort of pointless to book Akiyama against Bisping, when Bisping pretty handily beat Leben's ass in England already? You know the UFC is going to want to push Bisping as a future title contender, and they'll probably say something to the like in his promos going toward 120... So what sense does it make to put him against Akiyama? Yeesh, would have made more sense to snag Maia from his bout with Belcher.</p><p> </p><p> I will say that Condit and Hardy is probably the most relevant fight on the card so far, and with the right build up I could easily see them flipping it over to the main event, especially if Hardy starts overselling it and Condit makes plenty of mean scowly faces at the camera.</p><p> </p><p> Overall, I'm not really complaining at all considering I'm getting it for free and it's still a long way from October. Maybe a more favorable fight will get added, still a ways out.</p>
