  1. Yeah, I've heard that Sony can charge quite a bit for repairs, where as Microsoft will pay for the RROD (Just the RROD though. One of my nephew's Xbox failures was the laser going out and only being able to play DVD movies. Microsoft wanted over 100 bucks to fix that...) But that really isnt a positive. A positive would be not having a system failure rate so high it engenders a class action lawsuit. Yeah, PS3's can fail, but not even close to the rate the 360's died at. Really though, if you enjoy your game system, whatever it is, good for you. Just I think the PS3 has more positives. Myself I've found my PS3 to be very durable. About 2 months ago it got hit by lightning and I still havent had a problem with it.
  2. Never had any trouble with PS3 games on the network aside from UFC 2010, but from what I've read there were problems with that on the Xbox as well. Personally I like my PS3 better than what I've seen on my nephew's 360. The PS3's controller doesn't weigh twenty pounds, and its rechargeability comes standard. I don't have to pay extra to use their network service. Can play Blu Ray movies. And with the Blu Ray format for games you can store more information on PS3 discs, meaning for RPG games, you don't have to switch out discs, unlike the Xbox. And biggest issue, my nephew had to get his first Xbox 360 repaired twice, then replaced it, then had to replace that one all in the last three years. I've read they fixed a lot of the issues with the RROD, but still... Negatives for me... can't stand the PS3's wireless headset. The 360's wireless headset is better. The 360's tray loading for discs means never having to touch the bottom of the disc. Not a major issue, since the PS3 discs come with that special protective coating that Blu Ray discs have, but it still annoys me.
  3. Its a style/cultural thing. Many Sambo practitioners just don't have much respect for the other grappling arts. Thats not a knock against Sambo, a lot of BJJ guys don't think much of Sambo/Catch wrestling either.
  4. You're conflating MMA (as a whole) with the UFC. Dana likes to harp on the idea that Zuffa made UFC main stream, and he isn't wrong, per se. But without weight divisions and rules which allowed it to be viewed as a sport, as opposed to being just a bunch of bloody brawls, the UFC (as a company) would have never moved out of the half filled arenas in Biloxi and Alabama. Once they could call it a sport, they get Congress off their backs and open themselves to legitimate sponsors and enables them to broadcast programming on cable stations, allowing for increased revenue. All of which was only possible because of the formation of the rules. I think people forget how bad it was getting for the company prior to Zuffa taking over. Some PPV providers wouldn't carry them, and the athletic commisions in some markets were outright banning it. Without rules, that trend only increases. So I guess maybe I should have worded it better. I give Zuffa nearly all the credit for making the UFC mainstream. But they didn't save MMA in North America... Unified rules did. As for Blatnick's bias, its been years since I watched those shows but I remember it more as him favoring the grapplers (Royce, Severn, Shamrock, Oleg, Frye, Coleman) over the strikers. Which really wasn't bias, if you consider that those were all the guys that won back in the day.
  5. Ahh Blatnick isn't too bad, as far as general knowledge goes. I've read in several places that Meltzer credits Blatnick in large part for coming up with the unified rules for MMA in North America, which is what saved it from being blacklisted all over the country as 'human ****fighting' and allowed the UFC to go mainstream.
  6. Woot! Happy days are here again! http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af61/GateControlTheory/Eclectic%20Stuff/GWA.jpg GWA Global Tag Team Championship GWA International Championship GWA International Tag Team Championship
  7. Yeah I first heard it like, 20 some odd years ago. Its a cajun thing.
  8. What other multi billion dollar business doesn't allow for retirement plans? besides, if 70,000+ people showed up every week for four months and paid to cheer and watch your grandfathers work, I doubt they would have needed to work into their 60's either.
  9. <p>I seem to remember some titles that aren't on the front page, like SCCW belts.</p><p> </p><p> Are they in this thread somewhere?</p>
  10. Reap one thing I can say about your belts is that as you work your way through the Cornellverse the quality is such they probably won't have to be updated any more after that. Seems like with every new version of TEW put out, there are new belt renders. But with the quality of what you do, eventually the vast portion of belts will be considered definitive and finished.
  11. Perfect! It has the old school "Big Goldy" Feel to it with a modern look.
  12. I must concur, I follow this thread a lot just to see how awesome all the belts look and dream about making up diaries just to use them. If you are like me and try to play TEW and book companies around the titles, it really adds another level to the game for the belts to look as sharp as they do.
  13. Guess I'll throw in a request. To be modeled after the Default GWA belts. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Odius30/GWA_World.jpg Here's a logo that was created (sorry I forget the name of the person who made it) http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Odius30/GWA.jpg Looking for a GWA Television, GWA Continental, and GWA Global Championship belts. All singles. Thanks in Advance.
  14. Yeah the side panels on that U.S. belt aren't doing it for me either. And the red colored leather with the thick U.S. pattern looks funky. In the vid it looked to me like the central panel was larger, the strap was black leather and the side panels were square shaped. Still though its something different from the usual cooky cutter design most title belts have today.
  15. Here's a youtube clip of an angle from Mid Atlantic (I think) in the early 80's. I saw this at Wrestling Classics message board. Aside from a neat promo from piper/Flair, what I noticed was this U.S. belt has a design I've never seen before, and was wondering if somebody could try a hand at rendering it. Not needed for a diary or anything, it is just something I thought maybe mod's might like as a design idea. In the clips its the belt Piper wears. You'll notice that the center plate is gold and is itself shaped like the United States. I thought it was pretty cool looking and definately something different from the way most belts look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPbGq-M8jNg&eurl=http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=095574&feature=player_embedded
  16. NWO was a Cult that gained a Night kill after a certain condition was met... this was to balance the TNA's 2 kills per night ability, which itself was balanced around not killing certain characters in order to win. Example. What did the NWO lose for a night if Eric B was killed? A recruitment. What would have happened to an NWO member had they tried to recruit a Mafia member (Death).... probably several other things I am forgetting that put the NWO in the Cult category (as it is described at Mafiawiki).
  17. I am trying to think of more Night scenes to offer up for consideration but many are blurred in my memory. Hard to recall which was which. A few from memory. Cverse 2, when Joe Sexy died defending jesse because he was driven mad from sexual frustration! Barebones Either night one when MJ attacked the PGO, or later night. when TEOR killed the remaining sherrif. VG.. only thing that stands out is the night Sephiroth killed Aeris. Think I remember it so well because it exposed my false role claim. I do recall it being well done though. Star Wars.. night one.. Derek B defends his target only to be killed chasing a different attacker.
  18. I am taking into consideration that many favorites have already been nominated, so I guess I'll use this platform to nominate people I feel are deserving, but may be overlooked at this point. I'll argue some of the more controversial nom's later in the post. here goes BEST ROLE CLAIM NickC claims Good ol JR in the RWC game. FUNNIEST ROLE CLAIM Trypio claims Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Mafia BEST ROLE Darth Sidious from Star Wars Mafia PERSON MOST LIKELY TO DIE THE FIRST DAY Hamsalad BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE- PRO TOWN Outlaw123 as the PGO in Barebones Mafia BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE- MAFIA Djthefunkchris as Sate Pestage, in Star Wars Mafia BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE- MASON/CULT/INDIVIDUAL joose2001 as Brian Vessy from Cverse1 BEST GROUP PERFORMANCE The Sith, Star Wars Mafia BEST CONTRIBUTION TO MAFIA DISCUSSION Moe Hunter BEST SCUM CATCHER Arrows BEST SERIAL KILLER Self as Sephiroth, Video Game Mafia FUNNIEST PLAYER Leaving this blank as I feel the current noms are well represented. (plus there's six of them.. gahhh)! MOST PROLIFIC PLAYER Nzane MOST ENJOYABLE GAME BareBones Mafia BEST NIGHT SCENE Night 3, Cverse 2... Vengeance Returns! GDS HALL OF FAME Plenty of Noms currently, plus I feel the most deserving are already mentioned, so I won't add to it. PROPOSED New Categories MOST IMPROVED PLAYER Self BEST MODERATOR SadisticBlessings, Outlaw, and Nzane are all obvious noms. So, I'll throw IER's name into the hat for Star Wars Mafia BEST ENDING DOTT (the postcard from VKM sold it for me). Some of my choices may seem poor, so I'll go ahead and argue them here. Note the one's I don't argue for; I feel quite strongly that their merits speak for themselves. NickC as Good Ol JR was, in my opinion, probabaly the best false roleclaim I have ever seen. It's potential was boundless, and in the hands of a really strong player, Good ol JR could have turned RWC into a real Slobberknocker, leaving WWE and TNA beaten like government mules! So, when i say NickC as good ol JR, know that in that particular category, I am doing as it instructs, and nominating the role, not the player. Darth Sidious for Best Role. The more I think about that particular role, the more I like it. It combines a Mafia Don with a politician (which completely fits the real world character its following, which i think should count for a little extra on the creativity side). Using the Politician powers does change the Don's investigated allignment from town to non town, so it does carry some risk, it means using the ability should require strategy, plus it puts an impetus on the Politician to search out multivoters to manipulate. Hamsalad. His death was a perfect example of why self voting can screw the town over. In addition, all the really good choices had been nominated already. Outlaw in Barebones. Its a crime he wasn't already mentioned! How can you consider nominating great pro town perfromances and completely miss the job DJ and Outlaw did in the Barebones game? Looking at the current noms my only tough choice was deciding between Outlaw or DJ to nominate. I'll give the nod to Outlaw because he got the ball rolling early with the Cappyboy lynch and never let up after that. Dj as Sate Pestage: yes he wasn't the Don, but the Sith called him their MVP, and more so than anyone else in his group, he was the guy who was out front, with his chin tucked out daring the town to take a swing... and when it really counted, they missed! Joose2001 as Brian Vessy. As a Non Town Alligned player he made nearly to the end, and by all rights should have finished the game (a first and only at GDS) but the Mafia screwed up by killing him (he could have won with them as well). Though he didn't quite make it, it wasn't his fault. Moe Hunter: I felt his posts in the RWC game in illuminating the different forms of threat (between Cult and Mafia) facing the town is worth consideration. Self: While the Axis of Evil Mafia was failing to kill anybody, this guy was quietly piling up the bodies. he was only discovered after all the remaining Mafia memebrs and their mothers put their cards on the table and counted heads. Cverse 2 Night 3 (this category needs more noms btw!!!) This is the night a townie dressed up as a reanimated Serial Killer from a previous game. Done as a joke, it fooled real townies into believing they had another mass murderer on their hands! Well thats it for me. Congrats to all the noms.
  19. Ohh Best dramatic moment would be a great category. 2 to add to it, RWC game, when JBerg and Wallbanger basically call each other out as being Mafia and Cult. And in the VG game, when the Axis of Evil is trying to lynch Imarevanent, and he admits to the town that he is Mafia, but will work with them to kill the other Mafia, who he then names. Oh Hell, one more.. Cverse 1, when the rest of the town is too worried about making a mistake and losing the game, Wallbanger nominates Astil for a Lynch. Had he chosen poorly the town would have lost. That said though, yeah, my personal favorite was the vote on BigJosh in Barebones. That was such an intense moment, I'll never forget it.
  20. Yeah, the SW game will probabaly decide alot of things for me, in terms of who I nominate, much less vote for. Then again, I am noticing this nasty trend in the SW game, as I am sure you and others have, we'll just have to see how it all plays out.
  21. Since this is the 2007 awards, and the Star Wars game began in 2007, can we push the deadline for nominations back until the game is done (or almost done) that way we can include people from the most current game in the balloting (should they deserve it) and probabaly flesh out the number of nominees available. And also that will mean less of a chance that the Star wars game gets overlooked for next years awards (assuming there are awards next year).
  22. Heck, I even have to consider how the write ups are done.. in Cverse 2 Sadistic tells everyone which group is doing what at night, something that didn't occur later, and (I would think) make scum hunting more difficult in later games. Again, just stuff I have look at and try to balance.
  23. Geeze. My nom of UT is basically a place holder till I can read through the other games and confirm that the team of You and DJ in Barebones was the most dominant Townie players out of all the games. Then I have to decide between you two which one to nominate. And I am not being mean about it, I plan on taking into consideration things that happened in Barebones that was beyond your control, like the Sheriff deal. I don't think an event like that should reflect on either of you. But then I also have to consider things like... Nzane sending MJ (the Usurper) to target you night one. I also have to think about the Mafia in that game losing their Don because he went inactive, and Big Josh having to come in afterwards.. maybe that hampered the way they would have played otherwise. Truthfully, going back to my post where I point out that nearly all my noms com from Barebones onwards, the only nom I really feel certain about is Derek B for the VG game, and even then I am weighing that against my own experience in that game. Yes I felt that was unbalanced, even then I can tell you, personally, my mafia group was looking for him.. and he fooled us all (town, the other Mafia, the SK, everybody). Hell, the guy had his group's roleblocker attack him for a day just to seal the deal. But to be fair I am open to changing my nom of Derek should I read one of the older games and decide differently. Basically I am open to changing my all of my votes, and I admit my vote for UT as best townie for DOTT was poorly placed. Now, you have my word that I am going to spend my own free time over the Christmas holidays to go back and read through these other massive ass games and try to be as fair and as knowledgeble about who I nominate (and maybe pick up some pointers on how to play better along the way ) So I dunno what more you can ask of me, in fact, I think I should be asking you, instead, to cut me a lil slack here. Igotta get all this reading done by the 29th. Oh crap.
  24. I hear ya. TBH I went with that because my exposure to the other games was nil, and while DJ/Outlaw were very effective townies in the Barebones game, I didn't want to nominate either outright, given the couple of mistakes made in that game (lynching Astil and IER, letting Trypio live as long as he did, yeah I know there were otehr players.. but that game both DJ and Outlaw jumped out as leaders from day 1 onward). I am not criticizing them, just I don't want to say that was the best if there was someone who managed to do better in one of the other games, thus my vote for UT. Don't worry though, I'll have a much better idea oince I read through the other games (this is gonna take a while).
