2.
Well, we shall see but my thoughts post draft were simple: Smackdown looked like two incompetent Fantasy Football draft GM's surprised the other side wasen't just hitting auto pick.

Seriously, if you just look at the picks, Raw's roster is far superior, and they were taking good picks while Smackdown reached for nearly every pick outside the top 4.

Now, obviously I get that Raw is the longer show, and needs a stronger midcard so the Roster is going to be better in general, but the way they tried to tell the story as "Dawww shucks! they get two picks to our one, and they keep taking our pick leaving us to scramble" was so stupid.

Guys, it's called a draft board. Mabye mock one up before the draft so I don't have to keep watching the same stupid gimmick of you "ripping up" your pick card then making some seemingly crazy pick.

Anyway, that gripe aside, I think it's a big mistake to split the Women up, though I am excited to see Bliss and Carmella get some chance on smackdown. At least they made a nod to this in the last draft hour. Shane essentially said "Well, we were going to snag the Women's division and make it a focus, but once they grabbed Charlotte at 2, way higher than we thought, we had to scramble."

Which, ok, at least gives a reason for why Smackdown pretty much ignored the Women's division until after Raw had the two best women and then after Lynch let Raw hammer even more picks there. It still makes Shane look like a Boob though. "Awww shucks, I never planned for my Sister being good at this and drafting the only Champion who's title isn't on the line at Battleground. opps."

And, if you were so concerned about getting a strong tag division shane, another one of his characters major talking points in his interview why did you not draft the New day at some point? They were out there for a long time, just sitting there.

Overall, we shall see, but the Draft played out pretty meh. I also don't like the low picks used on Owens and Cesaro. Now both guys gave the "I'll show them!" promo after, so i get you were going for the disrespect angle, but Owens and Cesaro falling to the late rounds on Raw when Smackdown is picking scrubs made no sense.

I'm glad the Cruiser Weight title is coming back to Raw, but i think Smackdown should get an exclusive division to make up for that. I still don't think there is enough talent to have separate tag/women's divisions on each show, like to see how they address that.

Also, potential NXT pick spoilers in white:

SO i guess at a live event last night, Balor, Baylee, America Alpha, and Nakamura got together as five and all did Nakamura's rope move (was pretty cool, youtube it) afterwards Finn gave a speech that kinda highly implied the 5 of them were about to get drafted. That would make 4 of the 6 NXT picks, assuming American Alpha gets a tag team nod.

I didn't think they would actually turn the suspension into a story. I mean nobody would have truly missed Roman Reigns on TV. I thought they would have just put their head in the sand.

I watched most of the highlights, i thought it was ok. Random thoughts:

Seems so odd for them to try to build up Owens - Zayn for a kinda meh PPV, but perhaps the story is going to be they get drafted away to different shows, so they want to finish this up by then. Thought Jericho was good as a enhancement to the fued, and taking the dual super kicks.

The AJ - Cena fued continuing through them costing each other a spot in the championship match was predictable, but fine.

Rollins was really good on commentary for the Main Event, selling that he wanted Dean to win and thought he was capable of it, but also mixed feelings.

I-m not a fan of the "xavier is scared/ becoming a true believer" because I just don't see a positive outcome to it. If it's a New Day "con job" , then it's going to make the Wyatts look like morons when Xavier reveals that he was just fooling around.

If Xavier IS going to Join the Wyatts, I feel like your breaking up a good uper mid card act in New Day right as you need them most with the brand split to provide content. We shall see, but right now while i like the mic work, it seems like a no win situation for the Wyatts - New day long term

I mean, will a two hour show realistically do better ratings than what they get in the first two hours of RAW right now? I don't see it.

Oh, it would for sure do better ratings. Two hours is a TV movie. 3 Hours is lord of the freaking rings.

I used to watch 2 hour Raw all the time. It was a nice show on a Monday. Get in at 9, your out by 11.

Three hours? please. I haven't watched a Raw start to finish in months. I check in to start the show, then at 9, then at 10, and if the ME is interesting, i might be back at 11.

I think that is the main reason for Smackdown going live is because USA told WWE they needed the ratings boosted.

And given Hunter's comments on the matter, I expect you are correct and the response was:

"you wanted 3 hours of programming as part of the reup, well Here it is"

I think, if you sat both sides down and had them speak truth, USA and WWE would agree that moving Raw to 3 hours is killing the golden goose, and maybe the master plan they had to extend a good rating for USA to the entire Monday primetime slot was foolish.

2 hour Raw was just right, got USA high ratings and WWE could avoid over exposure.

3 hour Raw is a death march, and you have now successfully trained the audience that only 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:05 matter for advancing story lines, so you see spikes at those times, and flat 2 ratings for the rest of the show.

 9.

The Raw rating this week (2.03) is the lowest since March 3rd, 1997. Discuss.

Well, for one thing they were up against a potential series clinching NBA finals game. I know I watched that over Raw Live. The gane was good till late in the 4th too, which didn't help im sure.

But honestly, and I've thought about this, I just don't consume RAW live anymore, although I would say in the last 2-3 years I've consumed more of WWE's product than I previously would do.

It's part stagnation for sure. Another huge problem is with the three hour shows, you've trained the audeince to skip Raw live (who has 3 hours on a monday to do nothing but watch WWE?) and then hunt the content down later online.

I tend to read a recap of Raw, pick out what sounds like something I should watch, and seek it out on Hulu, youtube, ect.

Example: I didn't watch Raw live this week, but over the last two days, I've seen the MiTB segments and matches (because I'm fans of pretty much every guy involved). I watched the WWE snippit highlights for some other stuff that sounded "meh" and I watched the Cena-Styles segment by hunting it down on a non-wwe youtube account.

So I don't count as a ratings point for Raw's score, but I've seen the content I wanted to see, and will watch the PPV on sunday on the WWE network.

It wouldn't be a cell match, the Cell has a roof to prevent escape.

What the hell!!! What WWE writer decided to have Alpha lose the damn titles already! Ruined the entire Takeover special for me.

I assume they are headed for the main roster tag division with the brand split.

This is not my idea, may have even been floated pages previously, but I think the whole sudden reappearance of Teddy Long and his "lets book tag matches playa!" character might lead to him leading a tag team division that crosses over between shows.

Would make sense, you are going to need some acts that can move between shows, and making tag teams thier own separate thing with there own commissioner would do that nicely. But to do it you'd need a few more teams, and American Alpha are likely one of your best face tag teams, even though they haven't set foot on raw or smackdown yet.

Rest of NXT: The End

Opener - Fine, Almas looks ridiculous in that hat. Full sale loves Tye. This was good, just not much there in 5 minutes.

Tag Match - Amazing work from both teams, my match of the night barley edgeing out Nakamara - aries. So many good double team moves and sequences. I was ok with the loss, though it did seem to soon. Least it led to something, though seems like that beat down would have had more impact if done on babyface champs.

Wonder what's next for the revival? NXT has more good heel teams then face at the moment. Guess it could be a slow build against chiampo and Johnny.

Nakamarua vs Aries - Really excellent stuff. Full sail is all in on nakamarua, was cool to hear them sing the theme song. Aries was good here, thought he might have it via count out after the DD setting up a rematch, the story of him wanting to not settle for the Count out and taking to much of a risk was good too. Expecting we'll get a "official" number one contender with them both involved based on Hunter's comments after.

Women's match - This was fine, but highlights the problem of having a very green giant, there isn't much you can do with the smaller face except have her try and fail to knock her down, until she gets lucky. I wasen't a fan of the finish either. You showed me Jax as an unstoppable monster, but then she screams at Asuka and takes really the first solid shot she's taken all match and she's out cold?

This was fine and got the right result, just like i said not alot they can do with Jax right now to have her not go over but maintain her monster presence. Same problem they had with Corbin to a lesser degree.

Finn v. Joe

My disappointment of the night. not that it was bad, it was just...there until the final 4 or 5 minutes and the sick Muscle buster off the top rope. Also, the "you can just walk out the door!" part of these cage matches hurts them so much. It makes guys who try to climb look so stupid.

Should make cage matches pinfall, submission, or over the top. Asking politely to be let out by a ref ruins the whole "you cannot escape me!" part of the gimmick.

Overall, good show, but not one of the all time take overs.

It wasn't a bad Raw. It was just a Raw.

Standout parts were Owens (as always), Cena vs AJ promo segment and Reigns vs Rollins hype videos. I admit Teddy Long made me laugh a few times but it was still pretty awful scripting.

If the idea was to make Rollins seem heelish in those promo's (which were a good change of pace), mission failure.

One guy talks about how he's dreamed about this since he was 7 years old, complete with home video, and talks about how he's always wanted to be the best, and how he rehabbed and rebuilt himself, all for the championship i never got beat for.

One guy goes: yea we had good chemistry as a trio. I was always the muscle, he was the smart one though. He beat me and it made me mad. Now I'm mad at him. I used my maddness to get me to the top. I'm THE GUY and everyone needs to realize that.

And Guy 1 is the heel?

Don't get me wrong, Guy 2 ain't a bad dude, but not exactly a baby face for the ages.

You did all that on your own, right Finn?" and later there was something to the effect of "your upset because your boys aren't here to protect you from me, in NXT or in the Cage" and in General this interview Finn came off as fed up with having to put up with "someone like Joe"

I dunno, maybe reading to much into it, but to me it was interesting they had Joe start to at least hint that Finn only had success because of the Bullet Club, and Finn was more arrogant then I've seen him in NXT promo's before

I'm not too sure about it either. Short term it gives AJ direction and makes Anderson & Gallows stronger. Long term... that depends on their booking. I hope they add a new wrinkle to his character soon.

I'd take him just doing it on his own as a wrinkle.

It's ok for a Heel to be smart about fighting. and Heels should be reluctant to fight just to please the fans. I love that about Owen's character. he's not so much a straight Coward gimmick so much as a "whats in it for me?" heel.

(Best line recently "But he's the WORST one!" in response to always getting put on Miz's team leading up to Extreme Rules. Owen's character SHOULD be pissed to be paired with the Heel who isn't physically dominant. He's fighting for nothing, and on the champs he wants the belt from's side no less.)

What I don't want (and fear we are about to get with the brand split) is Rollins re-joining the authority on one brand, or even him getting a faction together to run interference for him. (which to be fair to them, they did do for the most part during his run.)

 18.
I'm torn on the Styles Heel Turn.

On the one hand, their Heel Roster is a joke, so they need it. Previous to this turn, your talking what....Owens and Rollins as M/E or UMC heels and....Miz as a Midcard gate keeper?

That was really about it for Heels worth anything, though Rusev could get back there after they rebuild him.

Meanwhile with Cena back your looking at Cena, Reigns, Cesaro, Zayn, Ambrose, the New Day (I suppose, they are weird half tweeners now but WWE seems to want them face) and AJ pre turn.

On the other hand, I think we all know the long term outcome of this Fued, I.E AJ on his back taking a pin from Super Cena....which I would be fine with except he JUST did that for Reigns. I don't want to see them cool off AJ so hard he never gets back to the place he was pre- Extreme Rules finish.

We shall see.

 19. MAW just went under in my game in 2018. pretty bummed about it, even though it actually helps my Fed as they were a competitor. Also, for any small promotions, this Stable is absolutely carrying my company: Pretty Inc. Raphel Xavi Ferrera Austin Smooth Venus (i forget her last name at work, but she plays an awesome "B" character Heel, and her sex appeal really helps them out in promos where i have the guys talking. They are killing it for me. Getting me C segments in ring and out.

Would allow them to establish the shows as separate brands, while also allowing them to do cross show stroylines by putting the belts on guys, and makes the belts more of a big deal because it's your "ticket" to work both brands. Also allows them to have the leaders of both brands (assuming it's shane & steph obv.) want to get the titles on thier guys, so that they have the champs on thier show, while always having the danger that they lose it at the PPV to the other brand.

What i don't want is it to be like those middle years of the brand split, where it was more like "uh yea....so there's a brand split, but people can just go to other shows and wrestle too."

AJ couldn't get the job done as number one contender and then got beat severely clean by a guy who couldn't win the IC Belt. All that loss did was prove "The Club" right that AJ can't win a match by himself.

You pretty much logically killed off AJ Styles because he is feuding with the guys that jobbed to the Usos for a month straight before finally getting a win at Extreme Rules. If the storyline is going to be AJ vs. The Club, then I'm pretty good with the booking, he doesn't need to be in the MITB match. He gets a clean RAW win over a semi-established main eventer. Plus, it's clearly leading to an AJ vs. The Club storyline where he has to prove he can win without them/beat them. I thought it was good storytelling and helped establish KO a bit more. He's capable of beating main eventers - about a year ago he pinned Cena in his first match. I don't think it did much to hurt AJ - even the best go into a rut sometimes, in kayfabe. I thought it was good booking.

I was fine on the booking too, for the same reasons. I assume AJ vs. The Club (either with Rollins or Balor as the leader) is coming, and this is the first part of it.

Or, knowing WWE, Shane will come out on Smackdown and say "by golly gee, it's a new era around here, and I decided AJ should have one....last....shot to make the money in the bank, by beating...DEL RIO!"

and they will just backdoor AJ in somehow. That seems to be the Shane's character's move. put fan favorites in matches they kinda already lost, and then have them make it with the second chance.

 24. Thanks John, super helpful! Think my first one, going to have an outsider (thinking silencer, who i just signed) come in, go on a run, and lose to someone tbd in the main event, then have silencer fued with the mid card guys he upset to get there. Thanks again!
 25. Trying them out for the first time, how is the Rip Chord invitational normally booked? Should i have a UMC win it, with the ME staying out of it, or is it a all roster event?
