Even if you put him on an events only contract or literally do nothing with him, the value in National Battles immediately moves any of them to #1 in the US.

Cost would be the #1 reason I can think of. He's not inexpensive.

If I remember correctly, the SWF is already at #1 of the big three in Star Quality. So he isn't completely required. The SWF is also in a better position than USPW to put on good quality shows so its not that hard to finish above USPW and TCW. And there are some midcard guys with great SQ who can be moved up. They won't have the SQ/Menace combo of Marat but with better Entertainment and in-ring skills.

Not that money is tight with the SWF, but if you are aiming to start up your own broadcaster to have a global presence and compete with USPW in that regard, that Marat contract will make that take much more time.

  2. So I've been booking WCW 2K1 in my version of the Mod Squad mod and quite enjoying, but I have an itch that I need to scratch with the ThunderVerse. I've been using PWI with the past couple of editions and I love me some Integrity, even with Allman's crap. But I think it might be time to mould the new vision of the AWF. The departure of Trillion leaves the door wide open to evolve the company into almost anything you want. And there is tons of talent to work with, even if you don't sign any prospects (I can't help myself). Plus, popularity based promotions are always just easier to run when you have big stars already.

I just wondered what the consensus was. I like him and all, like he's fine. But I really don't see him as anything other than "a good hand". I'm in the first couple months of my SWF save and he still has my North American Championship and he's been a fine champ, even main eventing episodes of Supreme TV in his defences, but I don't see him ever progressing beyond that.

He has some of the best top row stats in the company and his in-ring work is great but his promos aren't exactly setting the world on fire and to say he doesn't work house shows and earns double what everyone bar Jack Bruce earns it just feels like the SWF reached when they signed this one.

He hasn't helped his cause by having a falling out with me backstage my first night on the job, either

Not crazy. You can love or hate anyone you want in the Cverse. That's part of its fun. Minnesota/Morgan is an easy guy to dislike, for exactly the reasons you listed. He's a jerk backstage, SWF paid heavily for him, and he's a not prototypical SWF talent.

Personally, I love the guy, despite those faults. He started out in DAVE, so he has a great historical connection. He came into TCW as a nobody and worked his way up the card to be a star. I think he was the most skilled wrestler under 30 in the 2013 version of the Cverse. So more than enough reason to put up with that personality. The theft by the SWF makes sense - he's a great in-ring talent, great Star Quality, and it hurts a main rival. Sure, he's not great on the mic, but neither was Sam Keith and he's one of the great SWF stars ever. You can hide that issue with a manager/mouthpiece/advocate, and with his SQ, Minnesota/Morgan tends to improve. I don't think there are many active workers who have the DAVE/TCW/SWF combo of employment history so it makes him relatively unique.

In real world terms, there have been plenty of examples of companies going outside of their "typical" star for someone. In the WWF/E, you have examples like Shawn Michaels (size), Bret Hart (size and promos), Chris Benoit (promos), Daniel Bryan, Eddie Guerrero, etc.

  4. So finally got a game going with my tweaked version of the 2001 WCW Lives mod. Part of the reason I started messing around with the data in the first place was to put a particular scenario in place - Shane McMahon buys the company and runs it without trying to be direct competition to the WWE. They start at Cult, with a TV deal on Fox Sports and a severely depleted roster. The top guys left are Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett, Shane Douglas, Kanyon, Dustin Rhodes, Raven (my one "steal" from the WWF) and Rob Van Dam.

Made it thru the first month. Started out by opening 3 developmental territories at the smallest possible size and stocking them with indy talent. Loads of future stars getting polished up for the future. Even moved a few workers from the starting roster, like the Natural Born Thrillers after they dropped the belts. That left the main roster even more shallow but that's a temporary thing.

Main feud off the start is Booker T against Jeff Jarrett. Main goal is to having Booker gain some popularity, hopefully putting moving him from the B- range to around A. So far so good. He'll move into a feud with Raven and probably drop the world title late in 2001. Jarrett can float and job down the roster after this feud is over. Raven is in a "welcome back" feud with DDP. Also had Shane McM institute some new WCW rules, including that only one singles title can be held at a time. So Booker have to give up the US title, leading to a tournament that will become an annual thing (tho not with the US title on the line very year). Rob Van Dam will go over Lance Storm in the finale. Storm and Awesome won the tag belts from NBT right away.

I'm not too focused on show grades, as even a C+ will probably grow the company in some areas. But I've been hitting B pretty consistently, which is nice. I added a B show, which was really just so I could feature the lower card talent and cruiserweights more easily. I've also been running a weekly non-broadcast house show in Canada to build up popularity there so I get back on TV there as well.

In a ton of test saves I've done with this personal mod, the WWF is a bit inconsistent. Unstoppable monster in some saves and much less so in others. Looks like their grades are rather meh so far.

What stats do I look for when hiring an owner? Seems that none of the business skills would matter unless I had a Child Company. Also, any stats beside booking skill and title changes matter for head booker?

They definitely matter more for a child company than a developmental territory. When you have the latter, the "owner" is making fewer decisions (no hires) so less potential impact. An owner with a really low business skill could still make some poor decisions - running shows in areas before the company should, etc - that could have a financial impact. Any financial losses are transferred to the parent company so it could cost you money if they do end up doing some stupid things.

Generally, I look for someone with business skill in the C range and they seem to do fine. I like them to have a similar style preference, but I don't think they can alter the product so likely doesn't matter - more an immersion thing. Don't think it would matter much if the owner had D instead. But an F business skill.... that could see some level of difference.

For booker, its really just those two aspects. If you are tight on money, you can try to find an owner who can also book and have them do both - I don't think you pay them twice.

  6.

Is a child company less effective at developping workers if it has a different product than its parent company ? I noticed that match quality in NXT was much higher when I imported Dragon Gate's product, but I reverted it back to WWE's, in case they need to get used to the parent company's product to be better workers.

Not necessarily "less effective".... but it may develop them in ways that isn't needed. A puro-style product probably develops their Toughness, which isn't really necessary in an SE product. If you don't set them to have promos, they won't develop entertainment skills as much. But it does make sense that a product more based on ring work would result in better matches with workers who are mostly solid in the ring and mostly lacking in popularity.

  7.

When creating a developmental territory, what affect does the popularity have? Does it affect the rate at which workers will develop or does it affect whether some workers above a certain popularity will not sign a developmental contract?

Whether or not a given worker will sign a development contract depends on the worker, age, developmental level, and personality. Your company size as the parent company may factor in, but not the child company.

The size of the child company affects the visibility. A bigger company will help the developmental talent somewhat by making popularity gains more significant. A bigger developmental company will also run bigger shows, using more of the talent. And there is the possibility that a bigger developmental company will look to get a broadcast deal with you having to set one up.

Honestly, I used to open up the biggest developmental company I could afford. Now I open up 2 or 3 at the smallest size. Obviously depends on the product and the quality of the prospects. But I've found that if you can stock those companies with 15-20 good prospects, the companies grow quite well over time.

  8.

No, absolutely not. And it was a Japan tour he went on, I get that these could make differences, but from 57 to 90 in one day just flat out made me insecure as a booker!

Product and popularity make a huge difference. In a performance based promotion - which a puro company in japan almost certainly is - the in-ring skills of someone like Gauge can really shine. Even without him having notable popularity in Japan, he can still put on really good matches. Against an opponent who is skilled, popular, or both, you get the kind of grade you saw there.

Don't fret about something like that. The different circumstances make it a totally different situation.

  9.

The AI is constantly getting better matches out of workers than I can, any tips on putting on a good match/getting the best out of someone?

Examples being Greg Gauge with me would at max get a 57 with another one of my top workers, but when he went on tour he was consistently in matches getting 85-90 ratings, same with other workers I see who do not have great stats, but are putting on matches with 90+ ratings.

Are you able to put him against the same level of opponent - both in terms of skill and popularity - as the other company? Because if you aren't, its not really an equal comparison. Not to mention the difference in products between the two companies.

  10.

Can somebody sell me on Joey Morgan, as someone who's not played the Cornellverse a massive amount before?

By his stats and bio (and the fact he's NA Champion) I get that he's supposed to be a big deal, but I think I'm missing the hook with him. His render and gimmick just don't make him stand out on the SWF roster. Considering microphone and acting are two of his weakest stats, I'm guessing he'd be best off as a serious no-nonsense wrestler, but a- I'm kind of going that direction with Remo already and b- that still doesn't make him stand out particularly. What am I missing?

Well, in previous versions of the Cverse - before he joined the SWF - he was one of the most overall skilled workers in the universe under the age of 30. He has good Star Quality so he will likely get better. His Entertainment skills aren't awesome, but they aren't terrible and if you put him in angles, he will almost certainly improve. His personality has gotten worse, which I've viewed as an in-universe way to keep him from being too flawless as a worker.

Now as a character, he started out with DAVE - the Cverse's equivalent of ECW, basically. He then joined TCW and became a top headliner for them. Now he's joined the SWF and made an immediate impact. There are dozens of directions you could go with the character, but I don't think its too hard to fill in the blanks. A relatively easy way is to find a real world worker to connect him to. Definitely not hard to think of some really talented workers who weren't/aren't amazing on the microphone. Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Bret Hart....

Or not many, at least. And the naming convention is fine. Appreciate you putting it together.

Managed to finish picking and renaming the old pics, and ended up with about 600 in the folder. Which I am now slowly adding to the game. Did almost 100 last night. Have a long weekend so should be able to finish it up. Hopefully. I don't bother too much with the newer Free Pic additions like High Star Quality, etc. But I do try to adjust the weight classes and such to fit.

Let me put it together into a pack in the near future and I can share. Because sharing is caring. Will have Tiberious' stuff and probably dannewman's stuff included. Might result in some doubles.

  13.

I think Tiberious done a pack for the ROTW renders like that, just as a heads up.

Yup, I have that in there. The cutting room floor pack is included. And lots of re-renders, where the new one is in the actual pic and the original is still awesome.

Maybe I have more than 500. I don't think its that much higher than that, though. I like having a ton. Hence the hug Cverse pack I've slowly assembled.

  14.

Oh I'm sure it is, and it presents a lot of interesting potential routes to take them. For me part of the problem is that I haven't got the patience to transition them the way I want to because it feels like something that needs to be done fairly slowly and I get sucked into a PWI or SUX game before I've made any inroads. It's an interesting challenge, but picking up a promotion with a clearer direction that I enjoy appeals more to me.

I'm not certain it is intentional, but it would definitely make sense. And it would explain why the AWF has never grown as quickly as they seem capable of, despite a wealth of resources available.

I know what you mean about wanting to transition gradually. That said, you can do it quickly. I don't love that approach either and generally prefer to take over a company and evolve it rather than make mass changes. But its been done in reality and happens in many other industries.

  15.

I mean in terms of product they're quite distinctive in that the AWF is a lot more violent/adult, Cult and Risque are both set as heavy, while HCG barely have any of either. The AWF is a bit of an attitude era style fed, but I'm struggling with them because while they've got some great workers for that style they've also got a lot of big stars that in mind just don't really fit - plus now an owner and head booker who don't either. I've been increasingly struggling with the AWF over the last couple of versions because they've got so much stuff going on, and so many conflicting styles that it feels very difficult to put it all together. HCG doesn't appeal to me personally, but they seem quite cohesive with a roster that really suits the product and a clear positive direction. I guess it depends how you see the AWF, but if I were playing an AWF game I'd phase out the likes of Hawk/Warrior/Giroux and a lot of the midcard and end up with a promotion that is stylistically a long way from the family-friendly HCG.

Perhaps that is the intended challenge with the AWF - to find a way to make the mix work or decide on a particular focus.

  16.
Worker: Ethan Paro (the one in PWI, quite sure that's Ethan lol)

Alt Requested: pretty open. Just want to give him a look with a bit more personality. Was thinking a bit of the Jay Paro / Jeff Hardy flair, but not quite to the same extent. Maybe one with a bit of scruff and double straps?

    Worker: The Gibson brothers

Alt Requested: got some cool Gibson brother alts done for an AWF game before but want something a bit more serious for a PWI game. I was thinking of a biker look? Maybe ones looking like the early/mid 90s Steiner brothers?

Much thanks for anyone who can tackle these!
