1. One of my personal favorites is Dr. Terror's House of Horrors it came out in 1965. It is an anthology horror movie and might be tough to find. They used to show it on AMC (In the States) every year back in the 90's but I cannot recall the last time I saw it. It has an awesome cast as well. Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough (Who played the Toymaker on Dr. Who and later Alfred in Tim Burton's Batman movies), Donald Sutherland, and Roy Castle.

I am usually not all that fond of anthology movies, but this actually works.

Also, if you are looking for good old horror movies you cannot go wrong with any of the Hammer horror movies. Sure they probably look dated by today's standards but they are still very good.

1962's Carnival of Souls is pretty good. The only reason why it came to my mind is that I am looking at the DVD for it right now.

This next one might be another that might be kind of bland by today's standards but it scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. Ghost Story from 1981. Another movie with a good cast Fred Astaire, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and John Houseman star in it.

Those are some older horror movies that you might not have gotten a chance to see.

  2. Well, MLW is back with ALPHA Fusion. Enjoyed the heck out of the first show, Lawlor/Cesar skit was entertaining even though the production budget is kinda underwhelming. All three matches are fun, and all different.

I enjoyed it as well but the artificial crowd noise sort of took me out of it. It is like hearing a laugh track on a sitcom, it is just annoying.

Speaking of annoying, I am a little annoyed over the fact that I am going to miss out on the big show because I don't get Vice. That main event should be really good.

  3. I tend to only get to watch the last half hour of the show every week (I saw the last hour this week) and I have to say they sure love having sub-par main event matches. This week was a squash, which is understandable because Mox and Eddie are the stars and they should not be selling too much to the team they were facing. The main event matches for the last two shows were far too short, half the time is spent on Jon Moxley wandering through the crowd aimlessly.

Also, something that I felt was weird is them hyping MJF vs. Pillman as if this is something new. To AEW it is, but to me...well I can't tell you how many times I saw these two fight each other in MLW. It seemed every week there was some form of Dynasty taking on Davey Boy Smith Jr., Brian Pillman Jr., and Teddy Hart. It got to the point where it became MLW's version of John Cena vs. Randy Orton.

What felt weird to me is that AEW seems to recognize stuff that happened outside of their promotion but they are hyping this as being their first-ever match. That being said, I hope they have enough time to shine and have a chance to put on a good match. I like both guys and always want to see them do good.

I thought the Darby Allin vs. Shawn Spears match was a good television match.

Though I have to say I am not overly fond of Sting getting into the ring again next week even if he is protected in a tag team match. Sometimes people have to know when to stop, the last thing I would want to see happen to him is that he gets another serious injury. I felt like near the end of his run in TNA Sting was getting to the point where he was like Willie Mays playing for the Mets. Having not watched his WWE run or his previous match in AEW, I have no idea how he is now.

Minoru Suzuki is not going to be a selling point to any casual fans. He's never had a major run in America like a Muta or Liger. They can hype him as much as they want but only the fans who like Japanese wrestling know who he is.

Bryan Danielson's promo lacked something, I am not sure what, but there just does not seem to be any fire behind it. I mean it was not bad at all, but it was lacking something and I really cannot put my finger on what it was.

  4. Another for making fun of former WEFF Champion Pamela O'Neil.

That is interesting, I don't think I have ever run across that scandal before. Or if it did come up I just did not read it. The racist one I have gotten countless times.

I am a little annoyed with my GAMMA save. I started a GAMMA save a few weeks ago because I have not played the game in over a year and some of the posts on here have gotten me hyped to play again. Anyway, every single one of the default champions lost their belts on their first defense. It bothers me because I tend to like long title runs but now I have six new champions and the Super Heavyweight has already changed again. This means that the division has had three champions in one year. I guess that is exciting but I find it annoying.

  5. Man, I finally watched the film What We Do In the Shadows and what a freaking movie. I laughed almost the entire time.

If you have not done so already, you should check out the television version of What We Do In the Shadows. It is one of the best comedies on television right now. The new season comes back on September the second on FX.

  6. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="xXSegemoXx" data-cite="xXSegemoXx" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="53479" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I position it similar to the IC title in mid-90s.<p> </p><p> I give it to someone to have great matches and prime them for a World Title run.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I tend to book it like the IC Title in the early to mid-80's. I put it on someone who is good, just maybe not World Championship material. Someone like Tito Santana or Greg Valentine. Obviously Randy Savage doesn't apply to this. So a good worker who is a midcard talent, who will probably not become World Champion. </p><p> </p><p> Though I don't always stick to this rule, I sometimes do it the way <strong>Segemo</strong> does it. But for the most part that is what I use the title for.</p>
  7. I now second the new Suicide Squad being awesome. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I actually loved it more than Guardians. It felt like I was watching a blockbuster version of a Troma film.

Back in I want to say 2000 (Could have been 1999) I was Lloyd Kaufman's driver for a day. He was showing one of his movies at the film festival I was interning at and so they gave me the job of being his driver. Nothing exciting really happened, he was a very nice guy.

I liked Suicide Squad a lot. Sucks to hear that it did not do well money wise but I guess when you offer it on HBO Max. People are going to watch it on HBO Max (Which is what I did.).

  8. <p>I don't watch WWE much anymore but holy must I be out of touch because out of that list I have only heard of Bobby Fish, Leon Ruff, and Mercedes Martinez. </p><p> </p><p>

I never really saw Bobby as being someone who fit in with the WWE, I am shocked he was there as long as he was. I could see him ending up in AEW. Or maybe going back to ROH or New Japan. Hell, I would not mind seeing him in MLW. I think he would be a good fit there.</p>

  9. Thank you for responding. It keeps saying there is a new patch for WMMA 5, can't seem to find a workable link.

I don't know if you have come across this or not. This is the page for the latest patch for WMMA 5. I have to download it myself as I have not played the game in a long time but there seems to be renewed interest in the game and it makes me want to play it again as well.

  10. I heard one rumor, dunno how true it is so take it with a grain of salt, that VKM once stated that he wasn't going to push Wyatt because he was popular enough already.

I never got this way of thinking when it comes to the WWE. It seems so counterproductive. If the fans like someone, if someone is getting over that you as the front office has not planned on getting over. Then you push the person that wrestler. Swallow your pride and just give the fans what they want. Maybe it will help their bottom line better.

Granted I am not head of a multi-billion dollar company. Therefore, I might not understand the inner workings of the customer always being right.

  11. I was watching an interview with Tom Prichard yesterday on YouTube. Now it was not about Deathmatch wrestling it was more about wrestling in general and he brought up a pretty good point.

This is a little paraphrasing here but I think the point will come across, "If you come home from work and you see two elephants fornicating on your front lawn, you are going to be shocked. If you see it the next day you are going to be shocked. By the third day, the shock factor is no longer there."

That is how I feel about seeing dives to the outside of the ring or high-flying stuff. Back in the 1990's when you would see the Lucha wrestlers do some of their awesome moves or guys like Muta, Jushin Liger, or any wrestler's who did that sort of stuff. It was amazing to watch because as someone who only watched American wrestling that stuff was simply not done.

Now here we are almost thirty years later and nearly everyone does it in every match and for me, it has lost its luster. That happens with Deathmatch stuff as well. I remember seeing those exploding ring matches with Terry Funk in Japan or the ECW stuff and I was really into it. But now if I were to see it I would probably be like George Harrison in that episode of the Simpsons where he walks by and says, "It's been done."

I would guess a lot of other fans feel that way and so that means Deathmatch wrestlers have to push themselves further in order to get the reaction. They need to do something, even more, crazier to impress the fans. Is it really worth doing this crap if the outcome ends up being fatal?

I have to wonder if some of the people who do Deathmatch matches (I am not sure many women do these types of matches) have some bats loose in their belfry. Or might be into getting pleasure out of pain (With this being a family site I was struggling with how to word that without it being drity).

  12. <p>That is a very good question and it is one I cannot think of an answer to. I mean I can't believe they get paid a lot of money to do it, at least in North America. Maybe in Japan they pay better, but Indy workers who do not have major name value in the States really do not get paid much.</p><p> </p><p>

Is it really worth putting oneself through all of that trauma? I don't think it is.</p>

  13. When I saw the name of the thread my mind for some reason kept on saying, "Booking Flights". Then I started laughing and thinking, "Well heck, maybe Adam added that as an option in a new patch."

To answer your question. It really depends on where the fight is located on my card. For top ten fights I usually try to go for rankings. A lot of times I am forced to just book based on who is available.

Lower matches on the card are usually by betting or if I think one fighter can beat the other. Granted that often turns out horribly for me. There is nothing worse than a fighter going on a huge win streak only to lose to some scrub who I thought would be a jobber for them.

I hardly ever book looking at fighting styles. Does that really have a huge impact (I am asking because I honestly never paid attention)? I notice that people who are good standup fighters tend to not do well long term.

Now I have not played the game in a bit (Maybe a year or so), so I am just going by memory. Though all of this talk makes me want to fire up a new game.

  14. I wanted to add one more thought. Was it me or did that crowd seem very tame for a Philadelphia crowd? I am not sure if MLW did not mic them right or what but apart from some pops here and there they were not very vocal or at least not as vocal as I would assume they would be.
  15. I finally watched it yesterday afternoon. Like Blodyxe said I was not really fond of the whole Contra deal at the end. Mostly because I don't really care about any of them besides Fatu. I also like Josef Samael, but I would rather he stay as a manager. He is a pretty good heel manager. I know he is a wrestler as well (I saw him and Fatu as a tag team for another promotion that posts shows on YouTube, though I do not recall the name of the promotion. The company was based in California.) but he is just so much better as a manager.

I was really impressed by what I saw out of Lee Moriarty thus far. I think he might be someone to watch.

Tom Lawlor is such a great heel. He has the perfect balance of being annoying but hilarious at the same time.

It sucked that the cameras missed a lot of Zenshi's antics when he was getting back into the ring. The WWE would never cut away from Johnny Morrison or Kofi when they do their thing, I am not sure why MLW did it so often. I guess part of it was pacing, at the start of the match there were just far too many people in the ring at once.

I hate to admit it, but I am starting to not dislike Jordan Oliver. I always thought Myron was good but since they have come back from the shutdown last year Jordan is becoming more likable to me.

I wonder who actually owns the LAX name. Is it Impact, Konnan, someone else? This is what the third or fourth version of the team. I would have rather had Homicide involved in this new version but with him in the NWA, he might not be abel to do so. I just don't like when they plugin people who have had no history with the team. Yes I know Konnan has history but I mean active wrestlers.

Not going to lie I am glad they brought Rich Bocchini back instead of the guy who replaced him.

  16. This...

Same thing here, watched Battle Riot III match on

    Youtube.

Things I liked: Dario-Cesar promo, start of Injustice/LAX, skit with EJ and Tom LAWlor, Zenshi, "LA Park" cameo

Things I disliked: Second part of Battle Riot, where Contra's cannon fodder entered the ring almost collectively. Also Mil's booking (the unexplained revival of K-Dawg and Savio Vega) and underwhelming performance from Hammerstone.

6.5/10 from me, excited to see Davey/Tom feud. Heard that Arez and Aramis stle the show at those tapings, and from the little exchange they had in the match, that bout was bonkers

    And this...

in the UK we still got them on Youtube, i have just watched Battle Riot 3

Odd, I did not see it when I looked for it on YouTube. I will have to look again. Thank you both for posting, because I would not bother to look for it again, if both of you had not posted.

  17. I know this thread and MLW by extension aren't too popular here, but hoping someone has an answer for me.

I really want to give MLW a shot since some guys I love have jointed the company. I saw that the Battle Riot match itself is airing on beIN sports this Saturday, but does anyone know when the rest of the show will be shown? Mostly interested in Davey Richards vs TJP and Jacob Fatu vs Matt Cross.

They used to air new episodes on YouTube every Wednesday at 7pm EST. But since they went on a break a few months ago they have not been airing on there. I am not sure if they posted a new show yesterday or not as I have not been on there to check it out. I am thinking that now they have the beIN Sports deal, they might not post on YouTube. But I honestly do not really know.

  18. Anyway, I've been thinking of starting a dynasty here on the forums lately but whenever I check the dynasty board I get cold feet. It just seems like, more often than not, the writers are basically just talking to themselves. What I mean by that is their dynasty will get views, maybe a lot of views, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of engagement from those viewers. Sure, they'll get a few generic predictions for a show now and then, most of the time with the predictor not really commenting on why they chose the winner or winners they did, but other than that it's basically crickets. Of course, some writers get tons of predictions, and comments, and pats on the back for the interesting things they write, but they're definitely the exception and not the rule.
I have been guilty of just making predictions and not giving feedback. I have thought about this in the past. Maybe I do not have an overly analytical mind, but often if I like something I just like it and I sometimes struggle with why I do or do not like it.

I really don't like to post, "Hey good job." Over and over again because that really does not do anything for the writer, but as I said I am not highly analytical and therefore the hey good job would be the best feedback I could muster the vast majority of the time.

There have been times in the past when I have posted comments and the writer does not respond so I figure why should I go out of my way to post comments. I remember once, this was years ago, I was the only vocal supporter of this one writer (I don't think this writer even posts on here anymore.). I would try to comment on every show and the writer never responded. Then a writer with a higher profile on the site showed up and left a comment and the writer fell over themselves to respond. After that, I just stopped commenting in that diary because the writer was clearly not interested in my feedback.

On the writer's side of things, well I have been doing diaries on this site off and on for over ten years or so (Not so much recently, but from around 2009 to about 2015 area I always had a diary that was updated on a more regular basis.). My diaries never really had much of a vocal audience. I mean I have had people who are vocal but the vast majority of the time I don't really have people commenting.

There are times when people leave comments that there really is no way of responding. For instance when someone would say, "Good show." There really is not much to say other than, "Thank You."

I've read all the dynasty tips threads over the years too, the ones that say "you should just write for yourself, and if someone happens to like what you're doing, then fine. And if they don't, then who cares?" But it seems to me that the point of writing a dynasty is to share your game with others. To get feedback on what you're doing and what your readers like and don't like. But if no one is bothering to participate then why bother? You can just imagine everything in your head and save yourself all the work of posting a dynasty.
I am in the same camp as you are with this. I absolutely see no point in writing for myself, I want others to see it. I don't want to feel like the crazy person preaching to nobody as everyone ignores me. (I always remember there was this Charlie Manson looking dude out in front of the Alamo and he was raving about nonsense. Well, I stood there with him for half an hour and listened to him talk. He said to me, "Thank you brother for listening to me, nobody ever does."):D

My view counts are always on low end of things (Well not my two SWF diaries). So I am often left thinking, "Why am I bothering with this?" Even when I would update my diaries on a regular basis, I would still get low view counts. Then I also get to thinking, "Why am I bothering to write fan fiction for a video game that hardly anyone reads?"

Maybe it's just that every interesting or unique idea for a dynasty has already been done. Or is there actually a pattern to which dynasties get engagement and which ones don't that I'm just not seeing? Or am I just crazy and majorly overthinking this?

You will see more success if you do a name promotion. WWF, AEW, ROH (To a lesser extent). If you are going C-Verse then SWF, TCW, and USPW are your best bets. People tend to be drawn to those promotions like moths to a flame.

There is a lot to it.

They aren't dying by any means. The boards in July 2021 definitely are not at their peak, but there is still a VERY sizable base here. Oftentimes during the week, the entire 1st page has threads that had new posts made that same day.
The whole site is dying a very slow death and has been for the past eight years. It is really starting to show now in the diary section and the Dog Pound. The Dog Pound used to be a driving force for this site but now only the WWE and AEW threads seem to get posts on a regular basis and really the Dog Pound is only kept alive by two or three posters and that is it. Which stinks because I remember when that whole entire section would have tons of replies in one day.

I have said this for years but I think a lot of people who used to post a ton, back when I first joined the site, were young and they have simply aged out of this site. There do not seem to be enough people that replaced those posters. Also, the lack of new games by GDS, in general, is probably hurting as well. I am willing to bet there are people who think that there really is not much reason to stick around and post in here when there is not much product coming out from the company.

One of the biggest things that will help you steer traffic your war is simply being involved. Commenting, predicting, giving feedback, etc will almost always result in those writers coming to your thread.

That might be the case now, but back when I first started writing diaries you would hardly ever see the "big name" writers post in other writer's threads. No matter how much you posted in their threads. I think the only two that I would see post in other writer's threads on a regular or semi-regular basis were Bigpapa and Dragonmack.

My point? My point is that just because it worked for some people and it helped them gain readers, does not mean it will work for everyone. So don't give feedback and become more active on the board with the hopes that it will draw more people because that might not end up being the case.

  19. I read over the results and I have to say I am very out of touch with the product. I did not know who half the people were on the card. Every other name I found myself saying, "Who is that?"

This is not me saying ROH is not good, this is me saying I have not watched it in maybe two years and the roster has changed so drastically in that time period. Everyone that watched it seemed to like it (Obviously that is just from people who I have read talking about it.) so I guess that is a good sign.
