Well, you now know it's not Kokina. Too early in the game for that, IMO.
No but I like the visual image of Kokina squashing Sarge like a pancake on the way out.

I have my guess on who will be the champ and who will get the one to send Sarge out at WrestleRock. I’m going to stay mum for now on it though

Anyway back to 80’s wrestling.
I know I said Kokina and he would be a good monster champion but Terry Funk would have been one hell of an AWA champ. Don’t know in this universe he’s getting ready to feud with Flair but if not……
if you could sign Tully that would be another good option. And I just remembered I did say Barry Windham before months ago. He could be a face or heel champ.
I’m just not sure I see a World champion on the roster at the moment other than maybe Kokina who is green but has been pushed. Hanson and Lawler could be but I don’t think they are regulars. AWA needs an identity to move forward.

(PREVIOUS STORYLINE POST: Wrestler Payouts for the PWHC Tournament.)
Bray Wyatt died unexpectedly today. He was 36. Heart attack. RIP. 😔
Bray Wyatt early promo:
Holy cow that’s sad. While I was a fan originally when he was working the Wyatt gimmick, they lost me on it the last couple of years. He could cut a promo and wasn’t bad in the ring. I thought I heard rumors of his possible return coming. Certainly shocking at just 36. I wonder what illness exactly that he had been battling. Certainly feel sorry for the whole Windham and Rotunda families. I believe he married one of the backstage interviewers and they had a young kid.

Yes I saw that the great Terry Funk passed away earlier today. What a talent. He was such a good interview and he changed his style over the years in ways most today couldn’t even comprehend. Thankfully there is a lot of good Terry Funk stuff on the net. RIP champ.
on the AWA front with Sarge leaving, what better way to make a splash but to put the belt on a young unproven talent like Kokina. Watts can leave Sarge splattered on the mat in St Paul but maybe more importantly at WrestleRock on what maybe a big stage. Message to Vince - choke on it.

I'm trying my hand by attempting to create mods to those eras, doing everything from scratch. Can't promise nothing tough due to RL.
Sounds great. If I can assist let me know.

Wondered where you went.
Zbyszko has indeed jumped ship to Vince.
I always wondered what was in those pictures as well. They just dropped it cold.
Trooper's gonna be sticking around for a bit. You could argue that his character is somewhat Big Bossman-like.
Never understood how Stewart never became a star in WWF or WCW. He was a good heel.
Tully's not signed... at least not yet.
Murdoch is Sam's Mr. Miyagi. Wax on! Wax off! Paint the fence. Why, there's no way Dick would ever turn on his protege'.
Glad you're enjoying the story so far. Lots in the works.
Good seeing you back, heel.
BTW, I just had to update soemthing in my profile. No big deal.
Well I was real busy for awhile this summer but now recovering from a surgery (elective one).
I always like Ray “Big Bubba” but wasn’t a real fan of the cartoony Bossman (but his Hells Angel like WCW was worse). I see Wilkes as a potential title contender someday, but just not as the Trooper. Just doesn’t pass the “name test”to me.
Stewart just disappeared after the AWA folded. I never saw or heard of him again, not even in a Smokey Mt or USWA type promotion.

Very sorry to hear about your Gram, My condolences to you and your family.
Now as I just read everything tonight I have to say I really enjoyed the new creative direction for the WWF post Rumble. The Wendi Richter promo was great. The WWF is not easy to do with all the shows and talent on the roster, so good luck your off to an amazing start! And teaming Hollywood with HBK is something new, I like it. Will be very interested in following where you go.

With the change in the boards it’s harder to find. But has anyone done a 1987-1989 mods? I have one for 2016 if I can find it but would really like to find one already converted if it’s out there. Thanks

Well that was quite the saga with Verne. He had to sell he wasn’t that crazy lol. So it’s 1990 and the AWA is under new management. I like the idea of a gradual rebuild of the roster. With Sarge as the AWA Champion I’m wondering what his contract status is or length remaining. In the RW after the AWA folded he was off to the WWF along with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie and Sheik. I think I read somewhere Zbybsko was lured to the WWF (could that be the photo?). At first when I saw the folder I thought of the ill fated “folder” with the pictures over Dusty (since Crockett is there)….Someone needs to solve that mystery.
if I’m Watts the next person I bring up on the roster is Del Wilkes. The Trooper gimmick is so WWF and the guy had some talent. There is only so far a guy can get wrestling as a police officer.
Johnie Stewart always reminded me so of Eddie Gilbert in size and look as a heel. Maybe if Stewart could sit under the learning tree of Tully who could show him how a smaller heel gets over.
The Sam Houston thing has been interesting with Coach Murdoch. Of course I thought Murdoch would turn on him. Murdoch could be a salary cut since he’s just managing one guy and doesn’t get in the ring.
Anyway I have really enjoyed this AWA saga. Keep it going.

It’s January 1986 and the name I’ll bring up competed at WrestleRock 86 and had just left the WWF at the end of 85. I’ve got 2 words for you……Barry Windham. Barry was a great babyface and a smooth worker at the time. He’s had great matches with Flair when he was in Florida which is where he was after leaving the WWF. Magnum is tearing up the Carolina’s and while he would be fun it’s not realistic that he would leave the JCP at the start of 86. That would be my #1 target as a babyface. Building up Windham to be by the summer taking on Stan the Lariat Hanson and winning the AWA World title.
just my Booker hat as I held Windham in high regard for his talent (too bad he had the rep as unreliable back then). But that said, I look forward to where you go with this diary!

That was the US version of Bockwinkel's turn angle. In Canada, because Greg Gagne had stopped appearing in Winnipeg by about mid-1985, an alternate version of the turn had to be done where Mad Dog Vachon chose Bockwinkel as his tag team partner vs. Boris Zhukov and Chris Markoff at a Winnipeg Arena show and Zbyszko objected to the idea of Bock and Mad Dog teaming, leading to Zbyszko attacking Bock at a Winnipeg TV taping that followed the arena show soon after.
Love learning new stuff. Had no idea there was a separate face turn in Canada. Thanks for sharing that.
Bockwinkel was a tremendous heel for the majority of his career. He was a smooth technician in the ring and a silver tongue devil on the mic. I always enjoyed the heels who never got to over crazy (aka shouting) on the mic. Nick (Arn Anderson was another) just spoke calmly and rationally how they would take care of their opponents who foolishly would dare step into the ring with them. Promos are a lost art in wrestling today because most ”superstars” are not good actors with scripted dIalogue. Wrestlers did promos not some writers idea of a “good” script. Imo Bock is hugely underrated by a lot of people.

This is the pivotal year in the AWA. Succeed and potentially survive, lose a ton of the young talent and not replace the aging vets and slowly fade away. Good luck to surviving and bringing in some more fresh faces besides the ones like Curt, Hall, the Rockers and a few others.
I just remember the whole deal with Stan Hansen. You had a big old hoss of a champion and he never really had a great title challenger. I love Nick but he was over 50 and while he could still go he was not the guy that was going to lead the AWA. Some many directions this could have went and if it was planned and promoted I believe Hansen despite his Baba deal would have done business. So I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do. I know where I would have gone with this roster as you show it

If you're going to be ill, make sure there's a trash can nearby. 😁
My memory of Zenk is his match against Vader when he came to WCW. Vader destroyed him and the way Zenk coward in fear looked real. I think he truly was afraid of Big Van Vader but then again Vader was truly a force then
