  1. I don't have anything much to add, I just wanted to quote this, cause it made me lol Seriously though, I agree with your point ...Roddy Piper calling Rocky Johnson 'Boy' ...Jake Roberts slapping Miss Elizabeth Seems quaint now, after the 'Attitude Era' most people wouldn't even raise an eyebrow over something like that, but this was really edgy stuff compared to the social norms of the mid to late 1980's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaDxp_NV34s
  2. Valid point, but to me he is just sitting in limbo...he's not going to gain any new fans as a 'bitter' face...he's going to lose quite a lot of the casual fans (you could here the boos mixed in last night)...Cena, Orton & Triple H are going to blow past him in popularity (man did people go nuts for Orton last night....I'm not that big of a fan personally but d*** that crowd was behind him) and I hate to say it but walking around, whining, picking on Jerry Lawler, kicking Big Show when he's down? Not an edgy face to me...just a weak heel. And when he's standing in the ring with the human catchphrase machine aka The Rock? The crowd's going to turn on him big time...not saying Rocky's better, just the bulk of the casual fans are going to cheer Rock and booo Punk. You're right, they do have a ton of heels right now, but for various reasons none, to me anyway, really stand out...none that I'd "love to hate" or pay money to see get what's coming to them(except D-Bry that is)...I'm just afraid Punk will just fade off into that Prime Time Dolph Swaggler Alberto Del Miz Show crowd, and it's a shame 'cause he's way better than that...but hey, atleast he's not feuding with Santino...or Charlie Sheen!!! Edit: +1 about Tout...sick of it already...**** Tout Edit #2: LOL at the crowd legit cheering when Del Rio told them he wouldn't compete agian until he had his title shot at Summerslam...most entertaining thing dude's done in awhile
  3. From LOP.net... Wonder why NO heels can generate any legit heat in the WWE On a related note, CM Punk's halfway heel turn? Blech...he needs to go all in as a heel, imho he's just coming off as an insecure d***** bag, he's capable of being a much much more compelling character than that
  4. ....hope your not moving to Pittsburgh....you'll be disappointed
  5. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>This gets really annoying to me, not the person or people complaining, but <strong><em>the idea that everything can happen incredibly fast</em></strong>, and the thought that they should be able to capitalize on everything the very next show if something happened to stand out more then normal. I agree I wish it could happen like that , but it's obvious they are going for longevity instead of "instant success". </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I usually don't chime in here, as I am not much of a fan of the current WWE "product", but thought I would here...</p><p> </p><p> pertaining to the bolded part...so true</p><p> </p><p> read a quote from Good Ol' JR, who along with being a hall of fame announcer was the head of talent development for several years...and quite good at it, here's the quote....</p><p> </p><p> "BAH GAWD! BAH GAWD! B----" sorry wrong quote <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> "I've said many times in this space that the journey from debuting on TV until a talent makes it to the next level, if they do make it, is<strong><em> 3-5 years"</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> I'd argue that CM Punk has gone up 2 levels...from a mid-carder to a fringe main eventer, and then from main eventer to "mega-star". Punk, who already had experience and a built-in fanbase, has been in the 'E for 6 years...so I agree, he had to go through the ECW title feud, the losses to JoMo...the first WWE title on RAW...the move to Smackdown...feud with Jeff Hardy...SES...New Nexus...to build to where he is today. It does take time, with a few exceptions, to build a mega-star in pro wrestling. As much as I dislike the WWE over the last ten years or so, they did the CM Punk build the right way...not saying every single match/feud/angle was done perfectly, but over all it was done correctly and I believe that DJChris is right</p><p> </p><p> Although that's just my opinion...I could be wrong</p>
  6. It's July 1st and the Pittsburgh Pirates are 6 games over .500 and 1 game out of first place... ...No reason for the comment, other than we only get to say that here once every 20 years or so
  7. You may be right about the Sonics/Thunder situation, I'm no expert on how that went down, although what little I've read it looks more like an Art Modell - Baltimore situation rather than the Sonics being doomed if they didn't leave (Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had $150 million on the table to try and renovate the Key Arena but the OKC ownership chose to settle the lawsuit the city of Seattle had filed by paying $75 million to get out of their lease early and bolt to Oklahoma City), however from living in Seattle for several years (late 90's) I can say for a fact that Seattle is a much, much larger market than OKC, the Seattle Metro area is 3x the size of OKC...we will see how it plays out down the line... The fact that LeBron left Cleveland doesn't bother me...the fact that he was a pompous a** about it does
  8. Lebron s*** all over Cleveland... The Thunder walked out of Seattle... Hate 'em both, can't say I wanted either team to win sooooo... ...when does the NFL start again?
  9. Technically you are correct ...however the 'E owns complete rights to the entire WCW library...and Jm Crockett Promotions...and Bill Watts' Mid-South/UWF...so outside of his time in TNA, McMahon owns exclusive rebroadcast rights to most of Sting's career... perhaps... One can only hope Sting might make it to WrestleMania XXVIIII Probably not however
  10. Wait wha--- You mean Hulk Hogan didn't really slam 1500pd Andre the Giant in front of 9.3 million fans at WrestleMania 3?!? ...right...next you'll be saying there's no Santa...
  11. Pretty sure that's legit, but Punk's brought it up and used it in angles/promos in ROH so not sure you can blame the 'E for this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcyEcKZ0Qcg
  12. ~nods~ Sting is an icon...the roof would blow off if Sting showed up on RAW... and very few performers have a lot of mainstream 'star power' outside of wrestling fans...Hogan, Rock, Austin....uhm....Cena to a lesser extent
  13. I agree...was actually starting to like Cena...but that was bush league
  14. Had an opportunity to see Shiima Xion (Zema Ion's name before he joined TNA) at about a half dozen indy shows in 2008-2009...The kid is awesome... and to shed light on his character, atleast his indy gimmick anyway, he was billed as a Filipino fashion model who, whilst in Mexico, met midget-wrestler Chucky who trained Shiima to become a pro wrestler...So then it was "semi-androgynous fashion model turned arrogant heel wrestler" ... don't get a chance to watch TNA very often but seems he's more or less working the same gimmick now
  15. From what I've read on the 'dirt sheets', Brodus Clay was pulled from TV because his ring work isn't very good right now...plus he botched a move and dropped an F-bomb during his segment with William Regal on RAW... Wait, the WWE pulling a wrestler because he's not that good in the ring I don't believe it
  16. ...just saying... As a life long Steeler fan...and I'd like to think a generally nice and fair human being...I take solace in the fact that before Belichek was caught cheating he was 3 - 0 in Superbowls... ...since then 0 - 2 there is order in the cosmos
  17. Take the Giants + the points ...Gronkowski is hurt...Giants pass rush disrupts... Giants - 23 Patriots - 17 Atleast, as a bitter Steeler's fan (Patriots cheated!) I hope so
  18. Never thought about it, but your right... I think somewhere along the way, maybe in the mid-2000's the WWE completed the change from 'Wrestling Company' to 'Entertainment Company' and now rather than true heels that rile the crowd and draw legit heat...they have 'Entertainers' who portray bad guys on TV... Probably part of the reason the crowds at RAW & Smackdown are for the most part, dead.... Definately part of the reason I don't watch 'The E' a whole lot anymore
  19. So I didn't watch the Rumble...just read the results...uhm....did they forget something... THE FRIGGIN WORLD WAS SUPPOSED TO END!!!!!! I guess Jericho's suprise was....????? Lame...just lame...I'm playing some TEW
  20. A more polished version of the song Devil's Wings from my band (I'm the guitarist) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie3k29pBuCY&feature=g-upl&context=G2d2a3c0AUAAAAAAAAAA
  21. Lost in all the debate and discussion over Jericho's return segment is this... For about five minutes on RAW last night...as Jericho played the crowd...Micheal Cole was completely silent... Micheal Cole not talking = Epic Win!
  22. +1 I have to say I strongly agree with this statement... Monsoon/Heenan...McMahon/Ventura...Ross/Lawler... The dynamic works better with the "straight man" as the play by play as he does most of the talking...the heel as the colour... Watching Cole on RAW comes off like watching a heel promo...for two hours... It get's old... Fast... Just sayin'
  23. Agree with you here (well maybe not on Hernandez but), however, this is a "slow growth" strategy that requires a long slow development of a whole roster that can put on great shows and eventually gets over with the mainstream wrestling public... Roode/Storm are main eventing (they deserve it) But they have hurt/buried/ruined so much of their home grown roster that they may have to start all over again...8 years after opening the promotion...that's not good Plus they signed these former WWE names to bring attention to their promotion, only to have fans tune in to see what Kurt Angle or Jeff Hardy are up to and the fans get... A Jeff Jarrett MMA challenge... A Knock Out's Lock Box Challenge... or Eric Bischoff feuding with his son... I'm one of those fans who has been rooting for TNA to 'make it' since their weekly PPV days, but is it any wonder they seem stuck in the same place they were in 2006?
