16. PRIDE MAKE 'SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT' AT PRIDE BUSHIDO 20 PRESS CONFERENCE by Sean Smith The PRIDE FC, major promotion in MMA today, announced Friday “big news coming” for your fans. In last week “Save the Date” e-mail was also sent out to the media that stated “a very special announcement” would happen next Friday, before press conference of PRIDE Bushido 20. And the ads were huge. Starting with the announcement of the return of the partnership between PRIDE and SkyPerfectTV, which will again broadcast events to Japan in PPV. In 2007, after a failed negotiation with ZUFFA, PRIDE ended all its contracts and like fighters, the television contracts had also ended and since then PRIDE has been shown in Japan and around the world on cable channels. . Sakakibara stressed that the agreement is important for the organization and fighters: "It is an agreement that benefits everyone, TV, our organization and fighters that have PPV agreements in their contracts." The first card of SkyPerfectTV's return will be PRIDE Shockwave 2008 and it was defined that the numbered cards, PRIDE GP (Total Elimination, Critical Countdown, Final Conflict) and Shockwave, will be transmitted by PPV. The Bushido events will still be broadcast on NHK. After the TV announcement, Sakakibara invited Nobuhiko Takada and asked him to call the conference table to the new fighters who just signed with PRIDE. PS *: There were six more seats on the press conference table, but with the name plates covered. And Takada announces the names of: Wanderlei Silva, Dan Henderson, Shogun Rua, Mark Coleman, Heath Herring and Matt Hughes. That right after the announcement they join the conference table. Sakakibara announces that they and some other fighters have signed with PRIDE for a long time and then immediately opened the questions to the stars of the press conference. Wanderlei Silva was the first to speak and made the issue of his return to PRIDE clear. "This is my home, I signed with the UFC and they took a long time to give me the fight with Liddell or Rampage Jackson for the title. So today I return to my home and I want to make history again." Dan Henderson, who just lost the UFC belt in his last fight, said he was motivated to return to PRIDE right now and hopes to dispute one of the titles he left vacant. "Well, I went to America and won the UFC belt and even after losing it, I wanted to go back to Japan. I hope to dispute the title against the champion of one of the GPs, whether middleweight or welterweight, as they both belong to me. '' Both Silva and Henderson were open to a trilogy that pleased everyone in the conference room. Mark Coleman, like Silva, has not fought in the UFC since signing the contract to compete with the Light Heavyweight, and said he wants to compete in PRIDE's Middleweight. "Yes, I want to compete in the 205 lbs division. The UFC didn't give me the chance there so I hope to be able to compete here as soon as possible." Shogun Rua, who competed only once in the octagon, losing the title dispute against Rampage Jackson, said he came to return to winning ways in Japan and said he prefers to fight in the PRIDE ring. "I really didn't adapt to the octagon, because it's a different way to fight and I love soccer kicks and stomps, I want to go back to the rules that enshrined my style." Heath Herring, who was the first contender for the PRIDE heavyweight belt, returns to the rings of Japan with a good pass in the UFC and wants to finally win the PRIDE belt. "I am in the best shape of my career and I have returned to be the man to beat Fedor Emelianenko." Matt Hughes, who is a veteran of the sport and a two-time UFC welterweight champion, said he signed with PRIDE for the challenge of competing in the largest organization before retiring. "After I lost to Serra, I was no longer motivated in the octagon. And the motivation is here to compete in PRIDE against the biggest names in the world, that's what I came for." Sakakibara has not announced the date when they will compete, but the expectation is that they will participate in the PRIDE Shockwave, which will be the PRIDE PPV return card.
