3. PRIDE 49 WEIGH-IN RESULTS: ALL FIGHTERS MAKE WEIGHT by Sean Smith It's all systems go for PRIDE 49, as every fighter has now officially made weight. The PRIDE Fighting Championships busy march through November begins with 12 fights on Saturday. PRIDE 49 is headlined by a pair of welterweight contenders, Paulo Filho and Hector Lombard. The card is now official after the weigh-ins took place this morning, and every fighter eventually made weight. Filho is riding one of the more impressive active carrers inside the ring currently, having had his hand raised in all his eighteen fights, twelve of them in the PRIDE ring. Victories over Murilo 'Ninja' Rua, Kazuo Misaki and Yuki Kondo have placed “Paulão” in a prime position for a title shot if he gets past Lombard. “Shungo” will try to make sure that fans do just that with a victory over the top-ranked Filho. Lombard is riding a three-fight win streak, and has won eight of his last 10 bouts. Recent triumphs over Krysztof Kulak and Jose Landi-Jons have cemented his place as a contender in the division. The Cuban fighter stepped on the scales at 185 pounds on the dot for his first main event bout inside the PRIDE. PRIDE 49: Intensity takes place at Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. It will broadcast by ESPN Africa, Eurosport Russia, SkySports 2, NHK, Polsat Sport, Fox Sports Asia, CBS Sports Network, ESPN Latin America and Fox Sports Australia. This afternoon in Tokyo, PRIDE announced its two cards for the month of November and the main attractions will be the duels between welterweights. In PRIDE 49, the undefeated Paulo Filho (18-0, 12-0 PRIDE) will face tough Hector Lombard (14-2-1 NC, 3-2 PRIDE). Both fighters were at this year's PRIDE GP, but injured, they had to withdraw from the tournament and are now on a collision course in search of the title shot. The card will also feature Zentsov vs. Goodridge in the heavyweight division; Kazushi Sakuraba returning against Ryo Kawamura at welterweight; Veterans Ikuhisa Minowa against Jeremy Horn at middleweight; Yushin Okami returning to PRIDE against Sanae Kikuta in the welterweight division and Marcio Cruz against Hong Man Choi in the heavyweight open the main card. On the other card, PRIDE arrives in Canada for the first time with the country's greatest fighter leading the card. Georges St.Pierre (13-2, 0-0 PRIDE) will make his debut at the biggest event in the world against Frank Trigg (17-8, 4-2 PRIDE) in a rematch of the fight that took place at UFC 54 in August 2005 . St.Pierre has not competed since being defeated by Matt Serra at UFC 69 and ended up losing his belt. After a long period away he became a free agent and signed with PRIDE and now begins his career in the Japanese organization. Trigg is already a veteran of the sport, and made his last fight at PRIDE Bushido 18 where he put Josh Neer to sleep with a rear naked choke in the second round. The main card will have a Canada vs. World, with Canadian fighters facing fighters from other parts of the world. In a fight between champions from other organizations, M-1 featherweight champion Antonio Carvalho faces Cage Warriors champion Joe Pearson; Another CW champion, Canadian David Louiseau faces Arman Gambaryan at welterweight; Veterans Carlos Newton and Jorge Patino duel in the welterweight division; Takeshi Inoue returns against the PRIDE rookie, Mark Hominick and Denis Kang face Akihiro Gono in a battle between PRIDE veterans. Hughes will make his PRIDE debut and has won one of her last three having earned decision over Chris Lytle. The Miletich Fighting Systems representative will hope to earn a title shot with an impressive showing. Like her opponent, Hughes had no issue making weight and came in at 185 pounds.

This marks the first headlining bout for Bustamante (16-9-1) in PRIDE, who was defeated in his last fight by PRIDE welterweight champion, Ronaldo Souza, in first round of PRIDE GP. 17. PRIDE 47 FEDOR VS. GRACIE IS SET, REMATCHS SHOGUN-COLEMAN AND BARNETT-ALEKS EMELIANENKO FINALIZED AND PRIDE 48 MATT HUGHES DEBUT LINEUP REVEALED by Sean Smith PRIDE announced its October cards this morning at a conference held in Tokyo. The big news was the announcement of the title defense of Fedor Emelianenko (32-1-1 NC, 19-0-1 NC PRIDE) against Rolles Gracie (4-0, 1-0 PRIDE). Fedor recently defended his belt against two of today's greatest heavyweights from former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett, and now faces the Brazilian based in New York in a new challenge. Rolles Gracie, despite his short career with 4-0 being 1-0 in the PRIDE ring, has already won the Pancrase belt in March this year and abandoned his title to go to PRIDE. The PRIDE 47 event will still have two rematches awaited by fans. Shogun Rua (16-3, 12-1 PRIDE) champion of PRIDE GP Middleweight 2005, returns to PRIDE after a brief stint in the UFC, in front of Mark Coleman (15-8, 8-5 PRIDE), first PRIDE GP champion in 2000. They faced each other in February 2006 and Coleman after applying a takedown, caused an injury in Rua that ended up giving the victory to the American and soon after causing a general confusion in the ring involving the members of Hammer House and Chute Boxe. In his last fight, Rua ended up knocked out, for the first time in his career, by Quinton Jackson in the rematch that was worth the UFC Light Heavyweight belt and with the end of his contract decided to return to PRIDE. Coleman, who was also under contract with the UFC, decided to return to PRIDE after going without a fight since signing with the UFC in January 2007. His last fight was against Fedor Emelianenko at PRIDE 32. The other rematch on the card will be between Josh Barnett and Aleksander Emelianenko. Currently the fighters come from defeat. Barnett lost the title dispute to Aleks' brother Fedor via submission in the first round, while Aleksander was knocked out by Roy Nelson. The first duel between them took place at PRIDE: Total Elimination Absolute 2006, and Barnett won by submission by leglock in the second round.
