9.
It's been a tough few years for Matthew Dean, once on top of the world, the first ever two division champ in GAMMA has had a quick, painful fall from grace. Defending his Middleweight Championship against Interim Champ Osmosis Benn, Matthew Dean was finished suffering his first loss in over 10 years, in February of 2005. He bounced back defeating Niko Soldo to defend the Light Heavyweight Championship, before losing it 7 months later at the hands of a 1st Round TKO by MacGregor Dare, who shocked the world becoming new GAMMA Light Heavyweight Champion. Scandals followed with Dean's use of Prostitutes being revealed, before Marlon John beat him on points. The debuting Atsutane Akira made it three loses in a row with a 3rd Round Armbar, before Neil Napier knocked Dean out cold with a head kick in February of 2008. 11 months later, Dean returned with a big TKO victory over Tora Mizwar, or so we thought. He popped for PEDs, and Dean has been discussing retirement. The end of an era for GAMMA.

--------------

[Previous Update]

I'm loving this save. We're into February of 2009, and I'm sure I updated before, but apparently not!

Heavyweight - Lars-Gunnar Ekberg (19-0, 13-0 GAMMA) I mentioned I had high hopes for Ekberg, and it turns out I was right. Now the most popular fighter in the company, Ekberg has looked untouchable after beating defeating Rav Kapur for the belt just short of 5 years ago. Ekberg has defended against Ivanov, Rimando, Kapur, Cabal, Rimando again before his most recent defence against Gladstone Lopes which seen him pick up three 10-8 Rounds.

Light Heavyweight - Nilton Fantoni (16-2, 7-2 GAMMA) After Spencer Rubenstein defeated Mike Watson for the belt, Rubenstein lost it in his first defence against Matthew Dean. Dean defended the belts three times until his loss to MacGregor Dare, who only managed a single defence, before losing to Fantoni, who's defended against Villar and Mike Watson, with two 1st Round Submissions.

Middleweight - Atsutane Akera (17-2, 6-0 GAMMA) The one belt that no one has been able to hold down after Matthew Dean's record breaking 10 defences, Akera defeated Oleg Tariverdiev to be crowned the new champ after defeating Matthew Dean and Braulio Moura to earn a title shot, with his next defence against former champion Osmosis Benn; speaking of who, after ending Matthew Dean's legendary title reign, Benn managed two defences before being bested by Ramon da Silva Ramos, who lost it in his first defence to Oleg Tariverdiev.

Welterweight - Diego Arteta (18-3, 11-3 GAMMA) are we looking at a new era in the Welterweight division after Diego Arteta became the first man to defeat Manuel Silva who went 28 fights before finally losing, getting knocked out in Round 1. Silva's title run was stuff of legends, finishing every opponent in his way as well as a catchweight fight with Phillip Ziskie after Nathan Chambers pulled out through injury, as well as defeating Fiyero Lermentov, who moved up to Welterweight after losing his Lightweight crown.

Lightweight - Seth O'Breen (29-6, 6-4 GAMMA) Seth O'Breen is the perfect case of someone being cut, reinventing themselves and coming back a completely different fighter. Following three consecutive loses in 2002-03, O'Breen was firmly established as a gatekeeper of the Lightweight division, before being cut. O'Breen spent some time fighting on Local shows, winning 4 on the bounce before returning to BCF, where he beat #11 Jazz Snide, then #4 Cullen Skink, earning himself a title shot, where he knocked out Lubos Plasil in Round 1 to become new champion. Alpha-1 were sniffing around though, and we managed to sneak in and steal The Submission King from under their nose, where he made his return on the undercard of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, submitting H. M. Menzel in just over a minute with a Heel Hook. He then finished Luis Basora (someone he lost to previously) via TKO, before doing the same to Julio Regueiro. He returned to his submission game against Jake Keane, submitting him in R2 with a Leg Lock. Shortly after it was announce GAMMA were making their debut in Ireland with GAMMA 93, which would be headlined with a title fight, as Bud Brockett defended against Ireland's own Seth O'Breen. The underdog but with the fans support, O'Breen was confident, and nearly submitted Brockett multiple times in R1, before snaring an arm in RD 2 forcing Brockett to tap out, and the Hometown boy became the new Lightweight Champion of the world!

Featherweight - Lermont Banner (20-0, 10-0 GAMMA) Unbeatable.

Flyweight - Karen Rodgers (21-1, 12-0 GAMMA) After Kochiyo Chikamatsu won the inaugral Flyweight Grand Prix, she lost the belt in her first defence to Sandy Oliver, who then lost the belt in her defence to Karen Rodgers, who's made 9 successful defences of the belt, and looks nigh-on unbeatable.

I love this game.

 10. How's Ekberg doing for everyone else? He's probably grew into my favourite fighter in the database. I didn't really have any plans or anything for him, I booked Fatuma Roy (#7) vs. Tank Manu'a (#4), but Roy had to pull out on like 10 days notice, Ekberg (#17) steps up, and finishes Tank in R3. He shoots up to #10, and six months later, defeats Tony McCall (#5) on points, so top five victories so I decided to get behind the kid and started him on Medium Hype. I gave him the returning Jeff Carlton, Ekberg winning on points again. Four months later, he faced Nate MacReary (#7) picking up a Split Decision victory (28-29, 30-27 and 29-28). He then faced off with Norman Pike (#4), finishing him in the 3rd, and moving him up to #3. I decided it was time to pull the trigger and give him a title shot against Rav Kapur, after getting his nose broke in #1, and dropped twice in 2 and 3, he came out in #4, clinched Kapur, took him down and beat him until the referee had to pull him off. Showing amazing heart, Lars Gunnar-Ekberg is the new GAMMA Heavyweight Champion. His first defence took place 11 months later, against 14-1 Alexsander Ivanov, and Ivanov may not have turned up. He got outclassed in every way, before getting finished in R3. Ekberg is a Mid Level National name, 14-0 and looking unstoppable. Here's his stats https://i.imgur.com/rlpJyEC.png

Where was that bat going? Well the way he swung it there was only one place it was ever going to go - and that's off that chair and down. The laws of physics dictated what was going to happen and any supposed professional should have known that.

Have you seen Callihan's indy work? The guy is to safety what Undertaker is to Hip health.

The issue with the Edwards spot - well other than the two obvious things of hitting the ref with a chair and Edwards with the bat is of course that the spot was NEVER going to work of be safe. Conceptually what was going to be achieved with that shot? It was never going to look good and was always insanely dangerous. it is the definition of ill conceived and terribly executed.

If you look at the CZW stuff the same sort of stuff happens over and over with him - things that aren't well thought out or considered. Is he entertaining ... sure but he's never been particularly safe and this incident just went to confirm that. The fact that he hasn't done any major damage to people over the years is more good luck than good planning.

What should Seth's safety stat be then?

 12.
About 13 months (March 2003) into my first WMMA save ever and I'm having a blast. First thing I done was get rid of the Super heavyweight division, with anybody that could moving down to HW, and the rest getting cut. Then we implemented a Featherweight, and Womens' Flyweight Division. Champs are looking like this:

Heavyweight: James Foster (37-4-1, 10-0 GAMMA), hasn't defended the belt, was booked too but had to pull out via injury. He's now booked to face Rav Kapur (#2) in May, after finishing Gladstone Lopes and Tim Boyer with consecutive knockouts. Elsewhere, Lars-Gunner Ekberg (#8) is looking to make a run at the belt, after finishing Tank Manu'a (#4), on short notice; Ekberg was (#18) at the time. Next up for Ekberg is a fight against the returning Jeff Charlton, in what should be a star making win for The Viking. Meanwhile, after failing to make weight at HW, the SHW champion George Picerking was KOd in just over a minute against Christopher Sharp in what can only be described as a massive shock.

Light Heavyweight: Spencer Rubenstein (19-5, 9-1 GAMMA), after defeating teammate Mike Watson in what can only be described as a war, Rubenstein has what can only be described as the biggest challenge of his life ahead of him, as he faces off against Middleweight Champion Matthew Dean in a few short months! With no real challengers left in MW, Dean will look to become the first two-division champ in GAMMA. Elsewhere in the division, it's been business as usual, Watson coming from behind to finish Taneyev in R3, Watson's next fight will be against Linfield Ballard in a fight to determine the first challenger to the winner of Dean vs. Rubenstein.

Middleweight: Matthew Dean (38-5-1, 12-1-1 GAMMA), Moura came closer to beating Dean more than anyone has in recent history, taking The Anarchist to a Unanimous Draw (47-47, 47-47, 47-47), Moura returned to winning ways finishing Garner with a brutal uppercut in Round 3 of my most recent event. The next step for Moura will be an interim title fight with Neil Napier who has defated Adam White, Ashley Ballard and most recently finishing Tora Mizwar on short notice, to fly up to #3 in the Rankings.

Welterweight: Manuel Silva (21-0, 3-0 GAMMA), funny story. I booked Silva vs. Reguerio, for the title, or so I thought. Silva walked away with a Decision victory over the champ, in non title action. The rematch was booked for six months later, with the title on the line this time, this time Silva finishing Reguerio, knocking him stiff with a Spinning Heel Kick!

Lightweight: Fiyero Lermontov (20-0, 4-0 GAMMA), after finishing Jake Keane in R2 of their title fight, the Russian sits atop the Lightweight Division, with no one looking like they can stop him. Elsewhere, Sean Morrison seems to have made a resurgence after losing 3/5, finishing Bruce Steven in R2, before taking Seth Breen to a majority decision, before then finishing the highly hyped Luis Basora with a 1st Round RNC. If Morrison can overcome Helio, he'll get his rematch vs. Lermontov.

Featherweight: Phillip Ziskie (24-2-1, 2-0 GAMMA) a division in it's infancy the FWs are looking to find their feet, but that hasn't stopped Ziskie from making an immediate impact, defeating Brandon Sugar, before steam-rolling Li-Kong Ho in a Fantastic fight to become FW Champ.

Womens' Flyweight: Kochiyo Chikamatsu (13-0, 4-0 GAMMA), the Judoka walked through all three of her opponents in a One Night Tournament to crown the Flyweight Champion, taking Sandy Oliver to a decision victory, before submitting Daljit Samir via Armbar, before shocking the world and submitting Daniela Sadorra in R1, once again via Armbar. Chikamatsu then defended her belt against Sadorra, with the same result.
