Total Championship Wrestling: No Gimmick Needed

Total Championship Wrestling The Story So Far Wrestling started becoming a real profession in the US around the 1960s, which is generally known as the "Traditional Era". Prior to this it had been little more than a sideshow attraction, but the 60s saw the emergence of several regional territories, with wrestlers travelling from promotion to promotion. It was hard for wrestlers to become real superstars, as they rarely stayed in one place long enough to really become dominant, but some carved out good reputations for themselves and earned great livings - amongst these were men like Dan Stone and George DeColt, who would later go on to be successful promoters. The major territories at this time included Championship Wrestling from Boston (run by Gene Plumelli), Dick The Devastator's All-American Florida Wrestling, the Tri-State area's American Pro Wrestling Federation, California Pro Wrestling (headed by Preston Holt), and the Texas Wrestling League. The end of this situation began in around 1978, when a relatively new promotion called Supreme Wrestling Federation, under the leadership of a young promoter called Richard Eisen, began building up an impressive roster by offering long-term contracts to some of the most popular wrestlers, which was unheard of in those days. By 1980, SWF was able to put on wrestling's first pay-per-view event, which marked the beginning of the "Supreme Era". SWF became the national powerhouse, with clever marketing and showmanship making the smaller promotions look amateurish. By the mid 80s, almost all the regional promotions had been put out of business, and SWF was almost entirely dominant, with their headline wrestlers like Sam Strong and Rip Chord being national superstars. It was over 15 years before another promotion managed to rise and take on the might SWF, and this happened in December 1996 when Hollyweird Grappling Company debuted, kicking off the "Modern Era". With a millionaire funding them, HGC brought in Strong and Chord (who had both left SWF many years ago) on big money contracts to provide star power, and populated the rest of their roster with former SWF stars (like the Vessey Brothers) and the cream of the independent leagues (such as Ricky Dale Johnson and Liberty). The tactic worked, as they were able to go head-to-head with SWF almost immediately, and were accepted as a viable competitor by the fans. In late 2004, the ownership passed to Tommy Cornell, who began the process of rebuilding the promotion - the name was switched to Total Championship Wrestling, and a transition to a more traditional product was begun. This was apparently the start of a long-term plan designed to allow TCW to eventually overtake SWF. Booking duties were originally handled by Tommy himself but in 2005 passed to Sam Strong when he retired from active competition, but he soon left TCW to become the owner of USPW. In his place Joel Bryant was named temporary Head Booker until a more permanant replacement could be found. Over the last quarter of 2006, Tommy conducted interviews for a replacement and upon finding him, offered him the book at the beginning of 2007. Tuesday 2nd January 2007 Tommy was kind enough to leave me a welcome note
From: Tommy Cornell - CEO Total Championship Wrestling (headcheese@tcw.com) To: Adam (dogsbody@tcw.com) Re: Future of TCW Welcome to TCW bud. Few things i should tell you straight away so we dont get off on the wrong foot. Book wisely. You may think sticking EVERYONE on one show will make us look good but all it really does is cost ME money. Ration our workers per night so we get a balance between a good show and a healthy income. Speaking of which, you had better bring in some income.. TCW is pretty steady economy wise so you would have to be a bit of a plonker to make us lose cash so i expect to have more than we have now when your contract comes up for renewal in 2 years time. Other than that, my only concern is TCW's wrestling style transition. I dont want people to think that we are going the route of NYCW or USPW and becoming Old School so i dont want you hiring anyone over 42. All's fair apart from that so sit back, look over the roster and email me your ideas for the next show on tuesday. Tommy
I think he has you mistaken for Richard Eisen. Should be interesting, though I wish you would've continued the BSC diary. :(

Good ol Tommy
From: Tommy Cornell (headcheese@tcw.com) To: Adam (dogsbody@tcw.com) Re: Future of TCW I know i talk to you about this before but after speaking to my advisor, Mr Ryland, we have decided to change a few things. I have decided to be a little bit more nicer with my cash. You dont have to make us a profit right away. Just dont get us into debt. But dont make us look bad.. Right now we are the #2 promotion in the world and i dont want us dropping in size. This part your gonna hate. Mr Ryland and i have decided that the future of TCW no longer lies with the older generation and im gonna need you to start phasing them out. Instead of 42, i dont want anyone over 35. But thats not to say you can just hire anyone.. They gotta know the basics. None of the rif raf from those tiny promotions in the UK.. Say at least a D in the GDS scale. Tommy

O.o.c. With the release of a new data pack today with updated stats i thought i would use that instead. I hadn't even booked the first show so im not losing anything, just getting new owner goals
A nice little first show with a good grade. I'm a bit disappointed by the Bubb/Liberty match, I thought these two could put better than a C+ (I got a B from Bubb vs Tana in my old game!). Really like the direction of Huggins.
How in the hell did A.J Styles look a-like Chance Fortune, win a battle royal ? And what exactly was the battle royal for, does he get a title shot, and for what title ?
/agree. Seriously dude, you job out RDJ to pretty boy in a battle royal, and Troy Tornado only gets a 1 minute segment!? Good show though, otherwise! Suggestion: Instead of the 1 minute backstage vignettes, give Cornell his mic time! After all, TCW is... Tommy Cornell Wrestling! :D
