Can-Am SAS vs Robinson & Stoat Robinson and Stoat, are upper mid-carders who can't quite break into the singles elite right now. A pairing between these two egomaniacs will freshen up the tag-ranks and give a legit challenger to Warriors of Honour. Can-Am SAS are just kind of there these days, trading wins and losses with other mid-card tandems like Pure Quality. ROF Talisman Title Byron © vs Petey Barnes Byron holds onto the belt, as he once again has Barnes distracted with his wondering eyes in the direction of Phoebe Plumbridge. Rolling Johnny Stones vs Walter Morgan This is one of those 'possible next title challenger' contests that could go either way. Morgan has fallen away enough now, since his impressive title run, that I can buy into Stones beating him again and go for RJS to pick up the victory, in what will be a very closely fought contest. ROF Tag Team Titles Warriors of Honour © vs Reborn Romeos Had it not been for the sudden pairing of Robinson and Stoat, I may have gone with the upset here, but I think the Warriors retain and the Romeos can go back to trading wins and lossed with the Can-Am's, High and Low etc. Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson Despite having his detractors (and I'm one of them), Matravers did pull out a good performance last month against Henderson and you love these someone who has their number rivalries. ROF Championship Louis Figo Manico © vs Merle O’Curle If anyone can end someone's title reign before it gets going, it'll be the Irish Stretching Machine, but I'll go with the sensible bet and tip the Fig to retain.

Can-Am SAS vs Robinson & Stoat These two could be a good team together. They win this and then go on to face the Warriors next. ROF Talisman Title Byron © vs Petey Barnes I'm going for the swerve here. Not sure why as Petey hasn't been too impressive either. Rolling Johnny Stones vs Walter Morgan Morgan stands no chance. ROF Tag Team Titles Warriors of Honour © vs Reborn Romeos Warriors get to hold on a little bit longer - maybe Robinson & Stoat will take it from them. Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson I see no reason why Adam shouldn't repeat last month's upset. ROF Championship Louis Figo Manico © vs Merle O’Curle Here's hoping Louis gets on nice last run.

ROF Napalm Nightmare – November 2013 Can-Am SAS vs Robinson & Stoat - I'm voting for Can-Am SAS for the sole reason everyone's picking R & S, plus it'll irk Danny D that Billy R finally makes it back on PPV and jobs out. ROF Talisman Title Byron © vs Petey Barnes - Whoo! Coz I called it! I like Byron's character, being an insufferable, arrogant, upper class erudite jerk... with skills... is a great heel for RoF. Rolling Johnny Stones vs Walter Morgan - I like both guys, but think PPK will continue his career resurrection. Besides, RJS is always one brainbuster away from being considered a threat again. ROF Tag Team Titles Warriors of Honour © vs Reborn Romeos - If a title is changing hands here, it's this one. And the Romeos are another fine example of RoF approved Heels. Also this will allow Marcel to snub his nose at whichever Martin he fired. Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson - Because Draongmack will riot if McLugar loses! :D ROF Championship Louis Figo Manico © vs Merle O’Curle - I just can't see the RoF title being hot shotted back and forth. And O'Curle is always great as the Grumpy, Angry, Seething Curmudgeon O'Curle.

Can't believe I'm about to heap high praise on a Martin Twin, but the Reborn Romeo's team are looking to be absolute gold, they might not have won the belts but being involved in such a great match already puts them ahead of the pack. I know I said they'd probably go back into the pack after taking this loss, but a performance like that will change anyones thinking. Only other team I can seeing winning the belts off the Warriors now, is the new tandem between Robinson and Stoat.

Only other team I can seeing winning the belts off the Warriors now, is the new tandem between Robinson and Stoat.
I've been telling people the Romeos are a good team! :D The difficulty is getting them taken seriously by the diary readers given Lance Martin's history and reputation for being rubbish. But his stats are gradually improving. Actually, much of that A match rating is down to the Warriors of Honour, who are just a terrifically well-rounded and experienced team and could have a good match with Dusty Bin and Oniji Hanari! But the Romeos are definitely showing up well. Of course, the fact that both of those combinations have good chemistry teaming together helps out a lot. Going back to the Warriors, if they are champs I know my tag title match is going to be at least a B- these days, and could be as high as B+ or A, which is a nice safety net to have, given that it's never one of the top 2 or 3 matches on the card. The question now is whether or not I want to use Samurai for a last singles run, as the Warriors have been a very long-term team now. I think if the Can-Ams, Romeos and Pure Quality in particular keep showing they can get in the B ratings against one another consistently, it will sway my decision. I think also the fact that the quality of tag title matches has seen major improvement in the last couple of years makes the Talisman Title's weaker ratings more noticeable. But at least Byron and Barnes have shown that they can hit a B- early in a show.

Joey Beauchamp has been a contender for this belt for a while now but has thus far failed to actually win the gold. ROF Pyromania – December 2013 ROF Talisman Title 4-way Elimination Byron © vs Joey Beauchamp vs Petey Barnes vs Sergei Kalashnov I'm struggling to find a reason why any of the others would be a better option right now than Byron as the holder of this cursed belt (Your current woes with this belt, reminds me of the Openweight Title in the early days of my diary, before Gilmore's first run with the belt) Petey's just had a pretty luke-warm reign, Joey Beuachamp just gives me the impression of someone, who has his opportunities pass him by and Kalashnov hasn't really proven anything yet. I think that Beuachamp goes first, then Kalashnov, then Barnes. Jonathan Faust vs Rolling Johnny Stones Faust won't win again, until he completely cracks up and goes through some sort of psychological metamorphosis ROF Tag Team Titles 4-way Elimination Warriors of Honour © vs Can-Am SAS vs Reborn Romeos vs Robinson & Stoat If this was a straight up Singles match, I would say that the Warriors would retain, but this a perfect opportunity to get the belts onto a fresh new team and I think at least one of the titles will change hands here. I'm ruling the Can-Am's out, but I'm not sure who to go for . ' Apu's Favourite Team' of Robinson and Stoat would have been my definite choice prior to Napalm Nightmare, but Reborn Romeo's great performance in the title match at that event certainly makes things more interesting. I'll go for my initial choice and say that the Can-Am's go put first (effectively eliminating themselves from title contention for the forseeable future), then Reborn Romeos, then Warriros of Honour. Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson I still think this is going to be one of those 'Someone has their number feuds' and I'll go for Matravers to pull out the victory, who away from having to compete with his fellow high-flyers in the Talisman ranks, has pulled out a decent series of matches with Henderson. ROF Championship 4-way Elimination Louis Figo Manico © vs Jack Giedroyc vs Merle O’Curle vs Walter Morgan I'm willing to bet that 'The Fig' will lose the Title one on one. I think Giedroyc will go out first (though the Fig definately wont be the one to elimimate him, as he's the one guy, the champion struggled with on his way to title) , then I think Walter will go next, leaving O'Curle and LFM as the final two. ROF Talisman Title 4-way Elimination Byron © vs Joey Beauchamp vs Petey Barnes vs Sergei Kalashnov I like Byron as champion. ROF Pyromania... presented by the absolute final tour of Def Leppard – December 2013 ROF Talisman Title 4-way Elimination Byron © vs Joey Beauchamp vs Petey Barnes vs Sergei Kalashnov - I like what Byron brings to the scene and the other three all have strikes against them. Actually, it seems recently the Talisman title might be the snakebit title. Joey's just sorta there right now. Petey was a disappointment. Sergei keeps finding ways to blow simple spots. So Byron retains almost by default. Jonathan Faust vs Rolling Johnny Stones - The slide continues for Faust. I'm not sure where the storyline is going, but I'm rather enjoying the chapters... or should that be verses? ROF Tag Team Titles 4-way Elimination Warriors of Honour © vs Can-Am SAS vs Reborn Romeos vs Robinson & Stoat - Eventually I'll be right about WoH dropping the belts. And while R&S are the obvious choices, I'd like to see Martin and Valentine get a run. Something about them just makes the watchable and entertaining. Besides, I don't think I'm allowed to pick Billy R anymore. Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson - Seems an oddly high placement. Perhaps Marcel is hoping to let the crowd cool down after a stellar tag match? I know it's for pacing purposes just seems out of place. I'll go with Henderson as I prefer his Scottish Deathlock to the Mild High Moonsault of Matravers. (And no, there isn't a spelling mistake in either finisher.) ROF Championship 4-way Elimination Louis Figo Manico © vs Jack Giedroyc vs Merle O’Curle vs Walter Morgan - Talk about a coin flip or a die roll. It's rare to see a match where ANYone could win out of the four. I'm going with Figo because I like his addition to the main event and his roll continues as he somehow manages to survive the Wrath of God, the Curmudgeon and 4-Ways from Wigan.

And that's from a man who got Pyromania as his first ever CD!!
Adam Matravers vs Don Henderson - Seems an oddly high placement. Perhaps Marcel is hoping to let the crowd cool down after a stellar tag match? I know it's for pacing purposes just seems out of place.
At Pyromania, I like the singles matches in between the 4-ways, therefore the placement of Matravers vs Henderson before the main event 4-way. With Faust's losing run, his match with Stones isn't so high profile as the 3rd meeting between 2 men who are (according to the game) main eventers. Plus Henderson and Matravers have good chemistry together, which helps their matches garner better ratings. Despite that, I know they won't have a match good enough to be better than the main event, which is something I'm always careful about. If I think there's a match on a PPV which might actually get a better rating than the main event, it usually goes on 3rd rather than 5th on a 6-match card. Thanks for the predictions so far. Any more to come? I'm leaving a bit more time between newsletter at the moment because the diary is nearly caught up with where I'm up to in game. I'm only 2 shows ahead at the moment. Need to get cracking...

Our PPV buyrates seem to be holding steady in the mid 0.30s and the TV ratings are consistently between 1.65 and 1.85. Given that we’re still showing reasonably late at 11.00 on a Tuesday night, that’s not too bad. But our attendances have seen a sharp decline. Ashes to Ashes way back in January was our most successful show ever in terms of numbers – we nearly packed out the 10,000 capacity Euston Road and got our best ever buyrate of 0.38. But since then we’ve come nowhere near those levels. Indeed Pyromania, despite being a cracking show, pulled a full 4,000 fewer paying customers than Ashes to Ashes 11 months earlier. There would appear to be 2 reasons for this – 1) the industry is suffering due to the economic downturn of the last couple of years, and 2) fans are expecting to see more star power at our shows to befit our newly acquired ‘National’ status. Seeing as there’s not much we can do about the first of those points but wait it out until things get better, much of the past few months has been trying to sort out the 2nd point. We’d probably made a mistake by continually holding all our shows in the south of the country for such a long period, although it made financial sense at the time. It meant that some of our big names, even now, are not really over when we venture into other areas. On some of our recent Cauldron shows in Scotland, we’ve been trying to show the fans just how good the likes of Merle O’Curle and Walter Morgan are. They still require some convincing, especially north of the border. So Cauldron is now rotating through each UK area as we try to deliver our product country-wide and hopefully gets the fans really on our side in each part of the UK. In terms of wrestling quality, our product has not diminished. The ROF Championship picture has been really strong all year. Walter Morgan, then Merle O’Curle and finally Louis Figo Manico have all proven to be excellent champions, able to bring the goods consistently at the top end of the card. And with Jack Giedroyc, Johnny Stones and Don Henderson also in there with a shout lately, there’s good strength in our main event picture. The current title situation of a slightly unstable O’Curle going after the title and anyone that moves around it is an interesting one to start 2014 with. The tag team titles are also in very capable hands. The Warriors of Honour have been a great tag team for many years now – and I’m not just saying that because Samurai is my boss! But if you watch tapes of their matches towards the matches of other teams, you’ll see what I mean. They consistently bring the goods. And when they took the titles from Red Mafia in June, they were able to really cover the loss of the Mafia to the ROF Japan brand. Can-Am SAS are always very reliable in the tag ranks too and a 2nd title run could well be in their future. And with Reborn Romeos and Pure Quality both proving to have excellent teamwork, the division has some strong teams who could be capable of running with the ball. The recent addition of Robinson & Stoat, even if only a temporary alliance, also mixes things up a little and adds some spice. There’s definitely still room for another full-time tag team in the ranks though. The main problems from a wrestling viewpoint this year has been in sorting out the Talisman Title picture. This is not a knock on the guys who are wrestling in that part of the card either. Often they go on early on a PPV when the crowd are perhaps not quite at their most vocal or into the event as much, and to expect your midcarders to rival the main eventers for quality is probably asking too much anyway. But there is no disputing that the matches have often not lived up to expectations this year. And that’s not just the fault of the title holders – most of the wrestlers around them have joined in the malaise. Here at ROF we keep unofficial records of what we on the booking team call ‘chemistry’ – how well 2 opponents (or a tag team) mesh together and look comfortable in the ring. And the mid-card and lower card is beset by chemistry issues. Indeed one unnamed worker has faced 11 opponents in that part of the card and has chemistry problems with 7 of them. We have yet to unearth a single example of what we’d class as good or great chemistry from any combination. This goes some way to explaining why the Talisman matches haven’t been as good as in the past, although we’re pleased to say that the current rivalry between champion Byron and former champion Petey Barnes has produced better results recently and brought some much needed stability. Our new brand over in Japan has started in a very promising fashion. We’ve decided to just hold a couple of shows per month for now, having started up with four. There’s so much wrestling going on in Japan when the Nationals over there are on tour, that we felt a bi-weekly approach was probably enough. Plus, it gives time for JD and Dragon particularly to school the guys in the other weeks. We’re already seeing improvement, and JD (as my eyes and ears over there) is happy with the way things are going. He must be happy, as he’s not even mentioned the R word to me yet (retirement, for those wondering!). I’m providing after-the-event play-by-play for DVD releases of our Japanese Experience shows and I can tell you that the quality is decent – if you haven’t checked out the brand yet, head over to our website and get a DVD ordered. There are a couple of sample matches on the site for free as well. Our status as a bigger wrestling company in world terms now has altered our relationships with some other promotions. We were saddened that WLW, with whom we’d always had positive relations in the past, took such a negative stance over the UK Dragon contract negotiations. Dragon wanted a written deal for security and preferred to take one with us, as it would still allow him to work in both the UK and Japan. Unfortunately WLW were not going to let him go without a fight, despite his many years of glittering service to them. However, where one bond dies, another is made stronger, and our recent talent exchange with NOTBPW which started at King of the Ring is an interesting one to develop. We also have strong links with TCW, except that all their shows fall on the same days as ours, including the Sunday PPV. It would be nice to make use of that positive relationship sometime though, especially as ROF alumni Greg Gauge and Hugh de Aske are both based there now. So as we head into 2014 what can we expect from Ring of Fire? Well, my New Year’s resolution is to make sure the booking doesn’t fall into a state of mediocrity. Although our show quality stayed strong, I think the middle part of 2013 started to fall a little flat. I’d like to think we picked things up again in the latter part of the year though and hopefully we can keep that going. From the wrestlers over here, I’m looking for people that can step up their game and prove themselves able to head up our cards – with an ageing main event picture (sorry, guys!) we are going to need someone to show us they belong up there fairly soon. From the wrestlers over in Japan, I’m looking for good reports from JD of guys who are improving at a rapid rate and are desperate to take their opportunities. And from the fans…well, if a few more of you could come to the shows, it would really help me out!

Therefore... ADAM MATRAVERS IS GOD, FACT!
