James Casey Posted July 23, 2008 Share Posted July 23, 2008 Inspired by discussions over in the Michelle McCool and ECW title threads, I though I'd offer up some of my picks for best titles ever. Feel free to comment, debate, and offer alternatives. 1. WWF Intercontinental [IMG]http://www.midwestwrestling.com/images13/whiteic3.jpg[/IMG] This for me is the classic belt - it was held by some of the finest wrestlers of the day, and to me will be associated with the rise of workers like Bret Hart, Ultimate Warrior, The Rock and Shawn Michaels. 2. WWF World [IMG]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/73/WWF_Championship_1998_-_2002.jpg/800px-WWF_Championship_1998_-_2002.jpg[/IMG] It's big, shiny, round (I like round in a title belt) and looked like a genuine championship belt. It was also bigger, shinier and rounder than the belt it replaced - the old winged eagle belt used by Warrior, Hart, Hogan et al. 3. NWA US [IMG]http://www.midwestwrestling.com/images8/NWA_US_Ashvin_Presad.jpg[/IMG] With this one, I love the side plates, the contrast between the red and blue, and the solidity of the belt itself. The depth of the bars that enclose the face plate make it seem like this really is ten pounds of gold. At least. 4. WCW World Tag Team [IMG]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fe/WCWclassicworldtagbelt.JPG[/IMG] This was used from about 1991-1997 or so, and I could never understand why it was replaced. The low resolution of the picture really doesn't show this belt at its best, but it was covered in intricate carving and looked like it was worth a huge amount of money - and the effort that went into winning it. 5. ECW World [IMG]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/48/ECWchampbelt.jpg[/IMG] It looked hardcore, was defended in hardcore matches, and despite being (comparatively) small, just looked fantastic with the various hardcore homages inscribed on it. I love the puddle of blood, too :p And the worst... WCW Hardcore [IMG]http://www.wrestlingshop.co.uk/images/P/wcw_hardcore.gif[/IMG] Really - what else need be said? It looks like someone ran it over with a truck and then distorted it with a fairground mirror. You could accept the WWF Hardcore belt - it looked like what it was. But this was intentionally designed to look like a valuable prize - and ended up looking like this. No connection to hardcore, at all. It really does look like a 10 year old drew it. Before the belt debuted on TV, they changed to look (to an even uglier belt).
