Message to all diary writers.

Recommended Posts

I just had a thought. I say around 10 major diarys are going on at this time, and there are only around 60 people Worldwide that read these threads. And that makes me smile. It is more writing for writing's sake then trying to manipulate an audience. Or it is writing for the few die-hards who give a crap about the stories people have spent years developing. So to all diary writers I say thank you, you are the people who are not as commercialised as a yellow bannana, but as free-minded as a masked orange. Thank-you all so very much, as you don't get thanked enough. I could kiss up some more but then I would look as pathetic as an unmasked orange.
Absolutely. There is a lot of good work going on here that gets unappreciated. I try to comment on people's threads as much as I can when I'm reading, but there really is a lot of hard work being put in for what is a few posts of appreciation :)
Darn Tooting.. There have been people writing diaries on here for those that look in, that have had stories rivally anything any major promotion could offer (and frequently surpassing)

I'd argue it might be closer to 180-200 people, but not everyone reads every diary. I think I did the math, and Welcome to the Coastal Zone is averaging 30-35 views per post; assuming that two-thirds of 'my readers' read every day, and the rest read weekly, that puts me at... um, carry the two... that puts me at 21 daily readers, and 70 weekly readers, for about 90. And I figure there's got to be at least as many people who don't read me, just due to style differences and whatnot.

I'm not actually sure of how many people read mine, as the view count confuses me. Does the count count your own views in it? :D That would explain. But yeah, sometimes I wonder why people use so much time in their diaries, depending on the layout of course. The big annual show I just did on yesterday.. It took me about 5-7 hours to write, I don't know. A long time still. It was the single most longest show I've ever done. I try to read and follow as many diaries as I can, but it gets quite hard when you are trying to concentrate in your own diary aswell. I try to comment as much as I can, since I for one appreciate all the comments that I get on my diary. Those comments are the reward of the work you have put in your diary. All in all, I'm glad that I started doing diaries. It took me years to finally start my first one, and it has really brought back the love for the game, and the whole TEW-series.

Going by Infinity's theory I have 33 posts per view. Which gives me 22 daily readers I think. Not actually sure as his calculations don't make any sense. :D Anyway I don't seem to get that many posts atm but I have been inactive for a while due to unforeseen circumstances and am now able to get on a decent roll. Also as my next PPV is Cyber Sunday, which is 2 weeks away, it gives me the perfect opportunity to post one of them threads in the other forum asking people to rate my card/make choices/predictions and also see how many people really read when I ask in the actual diary thread for people to pm me their stipulation choices. I know there are a few avid readers like Tripps, Lexa and even Keefmoon which is an honour, but hopefully I can hook in some new readers with Cyber Sunday and go from there. I've actually already got Wrestlemania planned and most of the title matches for each ppv up to and a couple of ppv's after Mania :D And now I've finally got the time to regularly post \o/

Great thread, mate. There are many very talented writers on here, personally I get a load of enjoyment from not only writing, not only reading, but hearing the feedback whether it be positive or negative it's always there to be constructive. Wrestling is a fantasy world of make believe and it takes you away sometimes from the pressures of day-to-day life so doing this is a way to vent, it's a way to put a thought into action, it's a way to see dreams come to life. Keep up the good work everyone.

Anyone who puts time into a diary are not only showing their talent but they are opening up other readers minds and entertaining others in the process.

I've been doing mine for between 18 months to 2 years, and the main reason I do it is it's helped me become emotionally invested in the game. It's the only game I've stuck with, just because I actually feel I have to run entertaining storyline, because people will be reading them online. I see the views go up by around 10-15 each time I make a post, and although I very rarely get a comment I still do it just because I enjoy it. Although I'm in the top 6 most viewed, I know I'm far from being one of the best writers, but it's just something I enjoy, whether people actually read it or not. Anyway, I've drunk slightly too much tonight, so I've forgotten why I originally decided to post in this thread, but yeah- congrats to everyone who has a diary on the forums, takes a lot of effort and everyone deserves credit.

It goes from a game based solely around stats to something real. Something where you want to build those huge storylines and play them out show by show, instead of just focusing on the stats to put on great shows week after week, and all of them coming out about the same.

What'd be really wick is we start converting those views to posts numbers down. I mean, if 20 people are viewing a show, but only 1 can be ar$ed replying and giving their views, isn't that pretty weak? Someone said above 5-7 hours on their last show, I honestly never get anywhere near that long but it does take a while to put together a strategy, make your storylines off that, book your shows, monitor things as you go in a micro format to check overnesses and worker morales etc, and then to transform the fun you've had in creating it into something that 20 people have a look, it couldn't hurt to see more readers give their perspective and give back a 50th of what's gone into creating it. Just a thought.
Someone said above 5-7 hours on their last show, I honestly never get anywhere near that long
For me, Philly Power Pro takes about an hour per show, plus an hour to two hours doing each of the behind-the-scenes pieces. Destined To Fail, however, takes between four and six hours to do a show write up and around twenty minutes to make the posters. Something in the styles of write up.
