Royal Rumble 2009

Randy Orton last eliminated Triple H to win the Royal Rumble match

Edge defeated Jeff Hardy © in a No Disqualification match to win the WWE Championship

John Cena © defeated John “Bradshaw” Layfield to retain the World Heavyweight Championship

Melina defeated Beth Phoenix © to win the WWE Women’s Championship

Jack Swagger © defeated Matt Hardy to retain the ECW Championship

Despite winning the Royal Rumble, Randy Orton was still involved in a war with the McMahon Family. Shane McMahon made his return to Raw to defend his father’s honour and eventually found himself one-on-one with Orton at No Way Out. After a strong showing by the fourth generation McMahon; Orton took control and put Shane away with the RKO. Orton then Punted Shane in the head and eliminated another McMahon.

The other main matches at No Way Out were the two Elimination Chambers for the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles. On Smackdown, Edge somehow stumbled into a victory to retain his title. All Edge needed to do was survive as Undertaker eliminated Big Show, but left himself open for Elimination by Triple H. Jeff Hardy removed his brother Matt and then as he looked set to take back his WWE Title – only for Matt to come back and nail him from behind with a chair to allow Edge the easy elimination. Triple H was then headed for the title and nailed Edge with a Pedigree; but a shock appearance by a returning Christian left Triple H at the mercy of Edge, who retained his title.

On Raw, JBL paid for his spot in the chamber after Shawn Michaels had failed him against the Champ. Rey Mysterio got a measure of revenge by eliminating Mike Knox early; only to meet JBL’s Clothesline From Hell. Kofi and Jericho seemed to fight all night with Jericho using his Chamber experience to remove the rookie from the match. JBL and Jericho seemed to work together until Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Cena with JBL turning on Jericho and eliminating him. JBL failed to take advantage of Jericho’s work and fell to John Cena’s FU and Cena once again retained his title.

Two other matches happened at No Way Out; the first being the final match of the series between William Regal and CM Punk. After feuding for the best part of a year, CM Punk finally put the nail in the coffin by sending Regal to Sleep to retain the Intercontinental Title. The offering from ECW saw Jack Swagger defending against a challenger from Smackdown in the form of Hurricane Helms. Helms went close to winning his first major gold, but Swagger held strong and took the hard-fought victory.

Edge © defeated Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, The Undertaker and The Big Show to retain the WWE Championship

As we headed into Wrestlemania, Randy Orton and John Cena went on a Collision Course over the World Title. Orton had finally shrugged off the attention of the McMahon’s and used the numbers advantage with Legacy for much of the month of March; until Cena took out both Rhodes and DiBiase to leave the match as a straight fight for the title. Orton’s momentum proved too much for the Champ and after two RKO’s we had a new Champion on Raw.

Over on the Smackdown side of things, Triple H earned himself a shot at Edge for the WWE Title after Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy eliminated themselves from the Number One Contenders Tournament. Edge managed to avoid any meetings head-to-head with The Game and limited his involvement to cheap shots and blindside attacks. At Mania itself, Triple H looked set to win the title, but Edge fought back and somehow stole the victory from the jaws of defeat.

Other matches saw Shawn Michaels finally fought his way out of his contract with JBL, and defeated his former employer in a Retirement Match to send JBL out of business. Jeff Hardy finally got his revenge back against his brother Matt and defeated him on the grandest stage of them all. Beth Phoenix regained her Women’s Title before facing the greatest diva of all time – Trish Stratus. The Glamazon proved her worth as Champion, and defeated Stratus one-on-one.

Mickey Rourke came to Wrestlemania in an attempt to shut Chris Jericho up, but found that Jericho wasn’t lying about the difference between being a real wrestler and playing one in a movie. Jericho kicked out of the Ram Jam and nailed the Codebreaker, before locking in the Walls of Jericho to take the victory. Jack Swagger continued on his role as ECW Champion by defeating Finlay, whilst The Undertaker kept his streak alive by defeating The Big Show. In the Money in the Back Ladder Match we saw the full-time return of Rob Van Dam to Smackdown; but it was Christian who survived the other 7-men to earn a Title Shot over the next 12 months.

The month of April saw many changes as Stephanie McMahon officially removed herself as Raw GM – announcing her replacement as the recently retired John Bradshaw Layfield. The World Tag Team Championship changed hands twice as Priceless took the titles from Miz and Morrison the night after Wrestlemania before losing them to Cryme Tyme 3 weeks later. The main match on the Raw side saw The Legacy take on John Cena and Cryme Tyme in a 6-man tag. Orton continued his run by defeated JTG after an RKO but things between him and Cena were left unfinished.

Smackdown saw Triple H earn another chance to fight for Edge’s WWE Championship; but Edge would manage to survive thanks to interference by Christian and a two-man beat down of Triple H. The new Number One Contender – Jeff Hardy made the save at the end of the show as Edge and Christian celebrated with the WWE Title and MITB briefcase. Hardy had earned his title shot earlier in the night by beating Christian, RVD and Matt Hardy in a Fatal 4-Way.

Elsewhere we saw Maryse retain her Divas Title over Maria; whilst Kofi Kingston had earned a shot at CM Punk but failed to win the Intercontinental Title. Shelton Benjamin managed to survive a second Fatal 4-Way as he outlasted Hurricane Helms, R-Truth and The Brian Kendrick. ECW gave us an alliance between Jack Swagger and Mark Henry – who managed to defeat the team of Dreamer and Finlay.

Judgement Day saw the conclusion of hostilities between Orton and Cena over the World Title after Cena came up short once again. He looked to have the match in the bag until Priceless hit ringside and distracted the challenger; leaving him open for an RKO and another Orton victory. On the Smackdown side, Edge once again came out on top against Jeff Hardy in a match full of interference, with Christian, Matt Hardy and RVD all getting involved whilst the referee was down. Once the dust had settled and normality resumed, Edge hit Hardy with a Spear and retained his WWE Title.

Tommy Dreamer fulfilled his prophecy and became the ECW Champion once again by laying waste to Jack Swagger. Umaga battled long and hard with the Undertaker before earning an upset victory. Beth Phoenix continued to rule over the Women’s Division with a victory over Mickie James. Priceless continued to battle with Cryme Tyme over the World Tag Titles, with Cryme Tyme retaining. Smackdown saw new WWE Tag Champions crowned two nights between Judgement Day with The Miz and Morrison defeating Carlito and Primo and then retaining over them on PPV.

One Night Stand was the next stop on the 2009 WWE Journey, and the main event saw Edge once again steal victory in a triple threat match with Jeff Hardy and Triple H. Vickie Guerrero had been removed from her position by Shane McMahon (who eventually replaced her); but even the new GM couldn’t stop Edge stealing the victory. Hardy did all the hard work and had Triple H beat – only for Edge to sneak in and make the cover to retain his title. Randy Orton also retained his World Title but under different circumstances. JBL ordered a Six-Pack Challenge and gave The Legacy three of the spots; with Cena, Michaels and Jericho earning the remaining places. After the majority of the match being fought as a 3-on-3 match; Rhodes sacrificed himself in the midst of mayhem to allow Orton to retain his title.

Tommy Dreamer’s final run as ECW Champion was short lived as Jack Swagger returned to take back his title and send Dreamer into retirement. Beth Phoenix defeated Mickie James for the second PPV in a row; with Maria defended her recently won Divas Title over former- Champion Maryse. Evan Bourne returned and got revenge over Mike Knox. The Undertaker became the King of the Giants by defeating Umaga, Big Show and the Great Khali in a Fatal 4-Way; with Big Show tearing his ACL mid-match.

Shawn Michaels once again had the World Title in his grasp until Randy Orton deliberately struck the referee and once again got himself disqualified to hold on to his title.

WWE Raw Results

Monday, Week 1, January 2010 [Live]

Joe Louis Arena – Detroit, Michigan

12,502 fans in Attendance

The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduce and hype tonight's proceedings. [C+]

Randy Orton kicks the show off as he comes to the ring bragging about his 8+ month reign as World Champion and tells us how he has defeated every obstacle put in his way. Orton claims that he has run out of possible contenders, and he will take some time off until Wrestlemania – hoping that a worthy challenger can be found by then. Matt Hardy has other plans as he interrupts the Champion, telling Orton that he hasn’t beat all his challengers until he has beat Matt Hardy. Before Orton can respond, John Morrison makes his way out to remind Hardy that Morrison beat him at Armageddon to retain the Intercontinental Title – thus making Morrison next in line. [b+] Raw GM, John Bradshaw Layfield walks out onto the stage and tells Hardy and Morrison that they can settle this in the ring tonight – with the winner advancing to the Royal Rumble to face Randy Orton for the World Title. We get a graphic on-screen confirming the match as we head to the break.

Non-Title Match: Priceless (Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes) vs. Charlie Haas & Scotty Goldman

Our opening contest sees the World Tag Team Champions in action, facing the team of Haas and Goldman in a non-title match. Despite an early scare from Haas, the Champions are always in control and are victorious in 4:51 when Cody Rhodes defeated Scotty Goldman by pinfall with a Rolling Cutter. [C]

We head backstage to see John Bradshaw Layfield ripping into John Cena; with the Raw GM telling Cena that he will no longer be a wrestler here on Raw until he works his way up from the bottom. Starting tonight, Cena will be working on the concession stand selling hot dogs. Cena is obviously angered by the decision but tells JBL that he will play ball and begrudgingly gets to work. [b+] We get another on-screen graphic reminding us that Hardy vs. Morrison is our main event as we to commercial.

Singles Match: Goldust vs. The Brian Kendrick

Our next contest pits the ****y, young, Kendrick against the veteran Goldust. Goldust attempts to play mind-games with Kendrick and is in control throughout the early stages of the match; but Kendrick uses his speed and agility to battle back and ends the match in 5:31 with The Kendrick to seal the victory. [C+]

Backstage, and we follow John Bradshaw Layfield back to the concession stand where he finds John Cena and his co-workers involved in a food fight with the fans in attendance. JBL is furious with Cena and screams in his face that he will be staying at the concession stand and out of the ring until he proves that he can work at JBL’s standards. Cena shrugs this off, and tells the fans that he won’t back down and that he will be in the ring again in no time. JBL thinks otherwise, but is hit on the head by a popcorn box – causing him to storm off shouting abuse at the fan responsible. [b+] We cut to see Mickie James preparing for her match [C] and then see her partner Melina doing the same as we head for a break. [C+]

Tag Team Match: Mickie James & Melina vs. Beth Phoenix & Maryse

This all-Divas tag match sees the Women’s Champion team with Maryse to take on two top challengers for her belt. The Glamazon began dominating the match early on; but after tagging in Maryse things began to unravel. Mickie and Melina showed much better teamwork and it proved key as they were victorious in 6:05 when Mickie James defeated Maryse by pinfall after the Long Kiss Goodnight. [D+]

Mickie James and Melina are celebrating their victory post-match; but are attacked from behind by Beth Phoenix, with Maryse pulling herself together after the defeat to help the Champion beat down Melina and Mickie. [D+] Backstage, John Cena bursts into John Bradshaw Layfield’s office and tells JBL that the fun and games are over, Cena wants to be back on the active roster. JBL tells Cena that he will think about; before Montel Vontavious Porter attacks Cena from out of nowhere. JBL tells Cena that he has thought about it, and Cena can have a match with MVP in the ring – next! We get a graphic on-screen to confirm the match as we head to commercials.

Singles Match: John Cena vs. Montel Vontavious Porter

After spending the night bickering with JBL, Cena is forced into battle with MVP who catches Cena off guard and dominates the early part of the match. Despite MVP’s apparent control, Cena manages a fight back and attempts to hit the FU – only for MVP to free himself and go on the offensive again. MVP gets several near falls but gets ****y and allows Cena back into the match – which he looks to have in the bag following an FU; only for the debuting A-Train to attack Cena from behind. The referee signals the disqualification in 11:56 and awards the match to Cena. [b+]

Post-Match and we see A-Train and Montel Vontavious Porter continue the brutal assault on John Cena. With A-Train nailing Cena with the Train Wreck to leave him down and out in the middle of the ring. We cut backstage to a pre-recorded promo from Chris Jericho. Jericho tells us all that he has healed from his brutal mugging by the Undertaker and will return to the ring in time for the Royal Rumble – where he plans to ‘make the world right again’ and head to Wrestlemania. [b+] An On-Screen Graphic tells us that CM Punk is in action after the break. [C]

Singles Match: CM Punk vs. Ryan Braddock

Our penultimate match saw CM Punk take on ECW’s Ryan Braddock; as Punk looked to put himself back in the race for the Intercontinental Championship with a good performance. He never looked like losing the match as he controlled from the outset; and despite Braddock having the size and strength advantage his inexperience was his downfall with Punk winning 6:45 by pinfall after the G.T.S. [C]

We head backstage to Todd Grisham, who is with the Intercontinental Champion John Morrison. Morrison tells Todd that the “Monday Night Delight” has set his eyes firmly on becoming a double Champion at the Royal Rumble and tonight Matt Hardy is just another stepping stone along the road to the Palace of Wisdom. We then cut to a video highlighting the career of the Undertaker, culminating with his victory over Chris Jericho before we are told that he is returning at the Royal Rumble in three weeks time. [b+]

Main Event Match to determine the Number One Contender for the Royal Rumble: John Morrison vs. Matt Hardy

Tonight’s main event saw two men who were very familiar with each other battling it out for a title shot at the Royal Rumble. Morrison took control of things early in the match and scored several near falls; but Hardy wouldn’t lie down easily. Randy Orton came to ringside to get a better view as Hardy fought back into the match and got a near fall with the Side Effect. With Hardy seemingly in control, Morrison managed to catch him off guard with a Superkick – but still Hardy kicked out. As the match wore on Morrison looked for the Moonlight Drive, only for Hardy to reverse and nail the Twist of Fate. Hardy didn’t make the cover, but instead went to the top rope to hit a Diving Leg Drop which gave him a three count in 18:47 and made him the Number One Contender. [b-]

We got confirmation on-screen of the match between Randy Orton and Matt Hardy at the Royal Rumble. Back in the ring, Hardy was celebrating as Orton slide in behind him. Hardy turned into an RKO but blocked Orton – hitting the Champion with a clothesline. Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes then stormed the ring and the World Tag Champions tackled Hardy to the mat and began punching away. Orton ordered them to stand Hardy up; as they did Orton went for the RKO again and this time nailed it – leaving Hardy down and out as The Legacy stood tall to end the show.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results

Tuesday, Week 1, January 2010 [Live]

Greensboro Coliseum – Greensboro, North Carolina

13,225 fans in Attendance

The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Todd Grisham and Matt Striker introduce and hype tonight's proceedings. [D]

We then to detailed highlights of last week’s ECW Title Match, which saw Rey Mysterio defending his title against Jack Swagger. We see how Mysterio looks to have the match won before slipping on the top rope and falling prey to Swagger’s Falling Gutwrench Powerbomb – which began Swagger’s his third reign as Champion. Swagger comes down to the ring and claims that after his ‘sensational’ victory last week he is too good for the ECW Roster. But just in case somebody thinks they are worthy he is leaving an Open Challenge for the night, non-title match of course. [C]

Singles Match: Ricky Ortiz vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Our opening contest saw two of the young up-and-comers of ECW lock horns. Despite a strong showing from Ortiz, it was Ezekiel Jackson who shone brightest in this match as he scored the victory in 4:56 following a Standing Side Slam. [D]

The match is followed by a video piece on former ECW Champion Rey Mysterio and his career. [b+] We got backstage into Theodore Long’s office where Finlay is answering the Open Challenge – Teddy tells that he hears Finlay and will let him know soon enough. [b-]

Tag Team Match: The New Hart Foundation (DH Smith & TJ Wilson) vs. Paul Burchill & Ryan Braddock

Our second match of the night saw the makeshift team of Burchill and Braddock show that a legitimate mean streak was sometimes more than enough of a match for teamwork as they made like work of the youngsters from Canada. Burchill controlled most of the match for his team and clinched the victory in 3:54 after planting DH Smith face first into the canvas with a Curb Stomp. [E+]

After the match we get a live link backstage to Theodore Long, who announces that tonight’s main event will see ECW Champion Jack Swagger take on Finlay in a non-title match. [C+] The RAW REBOUND! then airs highlights from last night’s Raw, showing Matt Hardy beating John Morrison but getting attacked by The Legacy. [b+] We then get an on-screen graphic confirming our main event, next! [b-]

Non-Title Main Event: Jack Swagger vs. Finlay

The new ECW Champion starts the match by attempting to avoid Finlay, who is obviously up for a fight. Swagger eventually gets caught and is beaten down by Finlay for much of the early going. Finlay looks in control when the referee is accidently knocked over, Finlay checks on him but the distraction allows Paul Burchill to attack from behind. Burchill helps Swagger to his feet and both men beat down Finlay until Rey Mysterio makes the save. The referee regains consciousness and sees all four men brawling in the ring and signals for the double disqualification in 6:09. [D+]

Theodore Long is quickly out on the stage with microphone in hand; he doesn’t want the fans to feel cheated by the lack of result in the main event so orders the match to restart as a tag team contest. [C]

Tag Team Main Event: Jack Swagger & Paul Burchill vs. Finlay & Rey Mysterio

The restarted match continues in a similar chaotic fashion with Burchill and Swagger making frequent tags to keep the fatigued Finlay out of contention. Swagger continued to be ****y, and makes a mistake which allows Finlay to make the hot tag to Mysterio. The former Champion enters the ring like a house on fire and takes control of Swagger and Burchill. The Ripper does manage to fight back, but a surprise roll-up by Mysterio gives his team the victory in 11:55. [D+]

Overall Rating: D+

We then get a hype video centred around the Randy Orton vs. Matt Hardy match at the Royal Rumble. [b+]

Singles Match: Charlie Haas vs. William Regal

We then cut to a video highlighting the career of the Undertaker, culminating with his victory over Chris Jericho before we are told that he is returning at the Royal Rumble in three weeks time. Our main event involved two Smackdown stars, with Festus flying solo for the night to take on Shelton Benjamin. Festus used his power to his advantage as he controlled the match from the bell; but Shelton managed to work his way back into the match and after sending Festus into an exposed turnbuckle he scored the victory with a roll-up, using the ropes for leverage in 8:42. WWE Smackdown Results

Friday, Week 1, January 2010 [Taped]

Greensboro Coliseum – Greensboro, North Carolina

13,225 fans in Attendance

The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Jim Ross and Tazz introduce the show and heavily hype the expected impact the main event will have on tonight's proceedings and the Royal Rumble. [b-]

Singles Match: Evan Bourne vs. Chavo Guerrero

Smackdown kicks off with fantastic action in the ring, with a former US Champion in Evan Bourne squaring off against the third generation superstar – Chavo Guerrero. The match begins at an intense pace as Bourne and Chavo go move for move in the early going, with neither man making a mistake – until Chavo trips Bourne off the top rope. The veteran Guerrero takes control of the match and slows the pace down as he forces the match onto the mat. Chavo fails to have the killer touch, as Bourne manages to gain momentum and nails the Air Bourne from the top rope to grab victory in 11:49. [b-]

We head backstage and see the WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy, arriving at the arena. [b+] We then cut to see Mr. Kennedy and Rob Van Dam discussing tactics; but we are unable to hear what they are saying. We get a graphic on-screen about our main event as we take our first break. [b+]

Tag Team Match: Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder vs. Carlito & Primo

We are told during the match that the winners will receive a WWE Tag Team Title Shot on next week’s Smackdown. With that in mind Carlito and Primo start the match at a frantic pace, until Primo is isolated by Hawkins and Ryder. Ryder looks to have Primo defeated; but a basic error in communication when tagging in Hawkins allowed Primo to tag in his brother. Carlito tore the house down and took out both Hawkins and Ryder; before nailing the Backstabber on Hawkins for the win in 8:37. [C]

We get confirmation of next week’s WWE Tag Team Title Match. [C-] We then get an on-screen graphic telling us that a Jeff Hardy interview is up next. [b+] And we head to the interview as Jeff Hardy is with Maria backstage. Hardy lets us all know that he isn’t bothered which man wins tonight, as long as it’s the right man and he deserves his shot. Hardy tells us that he is fully focused on defending his title at the Royal Rumble and nothing more. [b+] We then get a video detailing the destructive force of Umaga. [C]

Handicap Match: Umaga vs. The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens)

Despite their numbers advantage, The Naturals are unable to get any offence in on Umaga – who controls throughout. The Samoan Bulldozer toys with both men before nailing Stevens with the Samoan Spike for the impressive victory in 3:54. [D+]

We head backstage to Maria again, this time she is with Mr. Kennedy. He begins to tell us how he plans to be victorious tonight, but is brutally attacked from behind by Edge. Edge pummels away at Kennedy and screams that nobody can defeat the Rated R Superstar. [b+] Rob Van Dam rushes to the scene and sends Edge running out of sight; RVD and the medics begin to check on Kennedy as we head to commercials. In the ring, Shelton Benjamin and The Miz are preparing for their tag team match, but have microphones. Both men appear to want to United States Title that currently belongs to Kofi Kingston and both men want to leave their mark on the Champion in their match. [C+]

Tag Team Match: Kofi Kingston & Hurricane Helms vs. Shelton Benjamin & The Miz

Our second tag team contest of the night saw four men who are involved in the United States Title Picture battle it out. After shouting their mouths off pre-match, Benjamin and Miz took early control over their opponents by isolating Helms. Miz and Benjamin managed to work well together until their egos got in the way – allowing Helms to capitalise on a miscommunication and Kingston to clean house on the back of a hot tag. Kingston pushes for the victory nearly has it over Benjamin until Miz breaks things up. Hurricane tags back in but goes after the illegal man, allowing Benjamin to roll him up from behind – using the ropes for leverage to grab the victory in 12:44. [C]

We head backstage to see Rob Van Dam trying to compose himself and prepare for the main event; when Jeff Hardy enters the room and wishes RVD good luck ahead of the match. [C+] We cut to see Nikki Bella [D+] and Brie Bella [C] getting ready in their dressing room ahead of the Divas Tag Match, next.

Tag Team Match: The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie) vs. Natalya & Michelle McCool

Our Divas Tag Match kicks off with The Bella Twins catching Michelle McCool off guard, controlling the match until Natalya tagged in. The Divas Champion took control of the match, and dominated both sisters before locking the Sharpshooter on Nikki to force the submission in 5:47. [E]

The RAW REBOUND! then airs highlights from last Monday’s Raw, showing Matt Hardy beating John Morrison but getting attacked by The Legacy. [b+] We get a final on-screen reminder about tonight’s main event as we take another break.

Fatal Four-Way Number One Contenders Main Event: Edge vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Christian vs. Mr. Kennedy

In our main event match, it was time to see who out of the four contenders would be next in line to face Jeff Hardy at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship. The match started out with Rob Van Dam and Christian in the ring, with Edge and an injured Kennedy in opposite corners. RVD and Christian went back and forth in the early going with neither man able to get a distinct advantage. Christian made the tag to Edge but didn’t head onto the apron – with the pair giving RVD a two-on-one beatdown. Kennedy hit the ring and cleared it of Christian as the match broke down into a free for all. Edge took Kennedy down from behind, but was quickly back to brawling with RVD and gained a near fall following a Spear. Christian got back into the match to break up the pin and the former partners went head to head exchanging vicious rights and lefts.

Christian was in control over Edge until Kennedy sent the former WWE Champion out of the ring, in an attempt to get revenge on Edge for his assault earlier in the night. RVD made it clear it was every man for himself as he took Kennedy down with a Spin Kick before heading to the top rope. Christian pushed RVD from the top rope to the outside and went up top himself looking for a Frog Splash on the downed Edge. Before Christian could fly, Kennedy mounted the second rope and attacked Christian – planting him with the Green Bay Plunge. Kennedy looked to make the cover, but Edge appeared from nowhere to hit the Edgecation to steal the victory and the title shot in 20:33.

We get a graphic giving us on-screen confirmation of Jeff Hardy vs. Edge at the Royal Rumble. [b+] Before Hardy heads to the ring and stands nose-to-nose with Edge. Both men stand their ground and the intense stare-down takes us off the air. [b+]

WWE Raw Results

Monday, Week 2, January 2010 [Live]

Reunion Arena – Dallas, Texas

10,000 fans in Attendance

We get a highlights package detailing the events of last week’s show, where Matt Hardy became Number One Contender to Randy Orton’s World Title by defeating John Morrison. We also see the beat down Hardy suffered at the hands of Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. [A] The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduce and hype tonight's proceedings. [C]

We kick things off in the ring with the entrance of John Cena, who gets straight to the point by demanding that John Bradshaw Layfield gives Cena a rematch with Montel Vontavious Porter tonight. He wants JBL to ensure that A-Train doesn’t interfere in proceedings so that Cena and MVP can settle things tonight, once and for all. Cena tells JBL that he can keep setting up all the obstacles he wants, Cena will overcome them all. [b-] JBL makes his way out to tell Cena that he needs to start playing by JBL’s rules before things become worse for Cena. Tonight, Cena and MVP will go one-on-one and JBL promises A-Train won’t get involved. We get an on-screen graphic to confirm out main event. [b+] We then get a second graphic telling us that A-Train will make his debut in the ring, next. [C]

Singles Match: A-Train vs. Scotty Goldman

A-Train shows lots of promise in our opening contest, and makes short work of Goldman. With A-Train grabbing the victory thanks to the Derailer in 2:34. [D+]

We head backstage to Joey Styles, who is with Randy Orton. The World Heavyweight Champion tells Joey that tonight Matt Hardy signs away his career by making their match at the Royal Rumble official. Orton warns Hardy to watch himself tonight, just in case an accident happens that could jeopardise his chances of winning the World Title. [b+]

Tag Team Match: The Samoan Dynasty (Manu & Sim Snuka) vs. Ryan Braddock & Jamie Noble

Our second contest barely lasts as long as our first with the makeshift team of Braddock and Noble unable to provide much of a challenge to the Samoan Dynasty. The match came to a close when Manu hit a Diving Headbutt on Noble and scored the pinfall in 2:33. [D]

We get a video building up CM Punk, Mike Knox, R-Truth and William Regal which is followed by the announcement that the four men will face off in a two week Tournament to determine who will face John Morrison for the Intercontinental Title at the Royal Rumble. [C+] We get on-screen confirmation of William Regal vs. R-Truth [C-] and CM Punk vs. Mike Knox. [b-]

Semi-Final Match: R-Truth vs. William Regal

The first of two matches in the Intercontinental Tournament was a hard fought battle which saw Regal and R-Truth throw everything at each other in order to advance. Truth started out with a flurry and had the match in the palm of his hand until a Layla distraction brought Regal back into contention. But Truth soon regained control, but a mistimed charge into the corner allowed Regal to quickly roll him up and steal the victory in 9:35. [C]

We get a Royal Rumble video announcing the first 8 official entrants in the match: Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Batista, Kane, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and Montel Vontavious Porter. We then head backstage to see Mickie James getting ready for her match, next. [C] We are then given the pleasure of Beth Phoenix heading to ringside to provide guest commentary. [C]

Singles Match: Mickie James vs. Maryse

The two divas went at each other, with Maryse making the better start as she attempted to gain revenge for her defeat last week. Mickie managed to battle back early on, but the French Canadian proved she was no push over as she battled to force several near falls. As Mickie regained control things looked bad for Maryse, until the Women’s Champion left her position at ringside and blatantly attacked Mickie from behind to cause the Disqualification in 5:16. [D+]

We head backstage to Joey Styles who is stood with John Cena; who lets everyone know that tonight he plans to get the victory he deserves over Montel Vontavious Porter without any outside interference. Cena then plans to lock his targets firmly on the Raw General Manager, John Bradshaw Layfield and plans to put an end to the Cena vs. JBL saga once and for all. [b+] We then get an on-screen graphic highlighting the Cena vs. MVP match in our main event. [b+]

Semi-Final Match: CM Punk vs. Mike Knox

Our penultimate contest was the second semi-final in the Intercontinental Tournament, which saw CM Punk attempting to put himself back in the title hunt. Mike Knox was, however, proving to be a difficult obstacle for Punk to overcame, as the monstrous Knox used his size and strength to nullify Punk’s attack and control the match. Punk’s opportunity came when he side stepped a Bicycle Kick and hit Knox with a high running knee, which was quickly followed by a bulldog. Punk capitalised on his newfound advantage and nailed Knox with the G.T.S. to advance to the final in 10:26. [C+]

With CM Punk celebrating his victory, his opponent next week William Regal, ran in and attacked Punk from behind. Regal caught Punk with a vicious knee to the head before planting him with a Regal Cutter to drive the message home. [C+] We get an on-screen confirmation of Punk vs. Regal next week as Regal is removed from the ring. [C+] The Smackdown Rebound! shows us highlights of the Fatal Four Way Match at the end of Smackdown, culminating with Hardy and Edge staring each other down. [b+]

Singles Match: John Cena vs. Montel Vontavious Porter

Our main event was a rematch from last week, as John Cena and MVP battled things out. Cena started the match with confidence after being reassured that there would be no outside interference and made MVP pay for his surprise attack last week. Cena attempted to wrap the match up within a few minutes when he locked on the S.T.F.U. but MVP was quick to reach the ropes and managed to fight back, gaining control on the match. With MVP dominating and scoring successive near falls, things looked bleak for Cena – but he managed to reverse the Playmaker and nailed MVP with the F.U. to grab the victory out of nowhere in 12:32.

John Cena celebrates his victory, until A-Train hits the ring and the pair begin to brawl back and forth. Cena gains control, setting A-Train up for the F.U. – only for Montel Vontavious Porter to clip Cena’s knee from behind. MVP and A-Train begin to beat Cena down two-on-one before A-Train plants Cena with the Train Wreck to leave him down and out in the centre of the ring.

The ring is cleared after the final commercial break and John Bradshaw Layfield makes his way out as the finishing touches are made to the ring in preparation for the contract signing. JBL tells us that the Raw main event at the Royal Rumble is one for the ages and completely outshines that of Smackdown – before introducing the challenger; Matt Hardy. Hardy takes his seat and tells JBL that he is ready to gets things going – so JBL introduces the World Champion; Randy Orton. The Champion is accompanied by Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes; who flank him on his way to the ring. Once he is seated Orton ensures both JBL and Hardy that the Tag Team Champions are on a tight leash. Hardy doesn’t want to mess around and goes to sign the contract straight away; with Orton warning him that it is potentially the last thing he ever signs. Hardy signs the contract and pushes it towards Orton; telling him to back up his words by signing on the dotted line. Orton mulls it over, before slapping Hardy across the face. The challenger is quickly to his feet and throws himself at Orton; only for Rhodes and DiBiase to intervene and fight Hardy back. Orton uses this to his advantage and plants Hardy with an RKO as he battled with Rhodes. Orton calmly picks the contract up and signs his name to make the match official as we go off the air. [A]

ECW on Sci-Fi Results

Tuesday, Week 2, January 2010 [Live]

Target Center – Minneapolis, Minnesota

12,478 fans in Attendance

We get a highlight package detailing last week’s events, which saw Jack Swagger and Finlay’s main event break down into a tag match after Rey Mysterio and Paul Burchill both got involved. The highlights end as we see Mysterio grabbing a victory for his team over Burchill. [C+] The show opens to the sound of Jack Swagger's entrance theme as Swagger himself walks out onto the stage. As Swagger makes his way to the ring, Matt Striker and Todd Grisham take the opportunity to not only hype the upcoming event, but also hype Swagger's purpose for being out here so early in the show. [D]

Jack Swagger grabs a microphone and talks about how both Rey Mysterio and Finlay wanted to screw Swagger out of his ECW Title. Swagger explains that he needed an ally on ECW, and after seeing Paul Burchill impress week after week, he had no choice but to enlist his help. [C+] Theodore Long walks out onto the stage and announces that last week he felt cheated and has decided that tonight in our opening contest, Swagger will take on Finlay in a non-title match. [C-] The ECW General Manager goes on to announce that Rey Mysterio and Paul Burchill would go one-on-one in the main event. [C] We get an on-screen graphic for our opening contest, next!

Non-Title Match: Jack Swagger vs. Finlay

In a surprise rematch from last week the ECW Champion goes head to head with Finlay; with Swagger controlling the early part of the match. Swagger continues to control the match until he slaps Finlay across the face – seemingly giving the Irishman a second wind. Finlay takes Swagger down numerous times and looks to have the match won after locking in the Celtic Knot. Paul Burchill rushes down to ringside and distracts Finlay, allowing Swagger to hit a low blow behind the referee’s back. Swagger secures the victory following a Falling Gutwrench Powerbomb and cover in 11:46. [C-]

We get an on-screen graphic reminding us that Rey Mysterio takes on Paul Burchill in the main event. [b-]

Singles Match: Tyson Tomko vs. Ryan Braddock

Our second match sees Tomko go one-on-one with the young Braddock in a battle of two big men, with Tomko using his experience to gain the advantage. Despite Braddock’s best efforts, Tomko scored a comfortable victory in 3:22 following a Lariat. [D-]

The RAW REBOUND! then airs highlights from last night’s Raw, showing Randy Orton and Matt Hardy signing a contract for the Royal Rumble; whilst John Cena battled against both MVP and A-Train. [b+]

Main Event: Rey Mysterio vs. Paul Burchill

Our main event pits the former ECW Champion against “The Ripper” with the young upstart using his size to his advantage from the bell. With his sister cheering him on from ringside, Burchill proved that it wasn’t a lucky start as he continued to beat down Mysterio and gain a number of near falls until Rey reversed a Powerbomb attempt into a Hurricanrana to turn the match on its head. Mysterio takes the initiative and makes it pay, hitting Burchill with the 619, followed by a Frog Splash to win the match in 12:53. [C]

Rey Mysterio is celebrating in the ring, when the ECW Champion Jack Swagger makes his way down to the ring. Swagger steps through the ropes and squares up to Mysterio. Both men lock eyes and refuse to back down as we go off the air.

WWE Smackdown Results

Friday, Week 2, January 2010 [Taped]

Target Center – Minneapolis, Minnesota

12,478 fans in Attendance

We begin with a highlights package detailing the events of last week’s show, we see Edge come out victorious in a Fatal Four-Way Match over Rob Van Dam, Mr. Kennedy and Christian to become Number One Contender for Jeff Hardy’s WWE Title. [b+] The show opens to the sound of Edge's entrance theme as Edge himself walks out onto the stage. As Edge makes his way to the ring, Jim Ross and Tazz take the opportunity to not only hype the upcoming event, but also hype Edge's purpose for being out here so early in the show. [C-]

Tazz enters the ring to interview Edge; who glorifies his victory last week – proclaiming it to be the biggest match of the year. Edge believes that it is his destiny to once again dethrone Jeff Hardy and take his place back at the top of the pile on Smackdown. [b+] Shane McMahon interrupts, and the General Manager tells Edge that he must pay for his attack on Mr. Kennedy last week, by facing him one-on-one tonight. Shane claims to be a fair man and tells Edge not to worry; Jeff Hardy will be in action as well – as he goes one-on-one with Christian in a non-title match. [b+] We get on-screen confirmation of Edge vs. Kennedy [b+] and Hardy vs. Christian. [b+]

WWE United States Title Match: Kofi Kingston © vs. Chavo Guerrero

Our opening contest started at a frenetic pace, with the US Champion throwing everything at Chavo straight from the bell. Kofi scores his first near fall after a cross body block, but as he pumped up the crowd Chavo desperately clipped Kofi at the knee and gained control of the match. Guerrero managed to ground Kingston and work him over on the mat; concentrating on the left knee of the Champion in an attempt to eliminate his aerial attack. Kingston, however, couldn’t be grounded for long as he reversed a suplex and went back on the assault. Despite favouring his left leg, Kofi managed to connect with the Trouble in Paradise to retain his title by pinfall in 13:53. [C]

We head backstage to see Umaga pacing around in a locker room; the door opens, and Edge walks in. The Rated R Superstar puts his arm around The Samoan Bulldozer and promises to make things worthwhile for Umaga if he does him a favour. Umaga shouts something inaudible at Edge, who smiles as we cut away. [b+]

Tag Team Match: The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens) vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder

Our first of two Tag Team matches saw Hawkins and Ryder put their names into the hat for a future Title shot by making easy work of the Naturals. Despite a decent start from Stevens, Hawkins and Ryder isolated Douglas and hit him with the Long Island Express to take the victory in 4:15. [D-]

We head backstage to Candice Michelle; who is interviewing Carlito and Primo ahead of their WWE Tag Team Title Match. Carlito tells us all that it was about time somebody who was actually cool held the Tag Titles again. [C] We then get an on-screen graphic for the Tag Title Match, next! [C-]

WWE Tag Team Title Match: Dolph Ziggler & Kenny Dykstra © vs. Carlito & Primo

Our second Title Match of the night sees two young tag team’s battling for the WWE Tag Team Titles. The champions made the better start as Dykstra and Ziggler both worked over Primo and eliminated his high flying offence. The champions got a near two count following a neckbreaker from Dykstra; but Primo managed to battle back and made the hot tag to his older brother Carlito. Carlito hit the ring and knocked down both Dykstra and knocked Ziggler off the apron to take control of the match. Despite Dykstra managing to tag in Ziggler, Carlito never lost control of the match and hit the Backstabber on Ziggler to grab the victory and to win the Tag Titles in 9:52. [C-]

We head backstage to see Jeff Hardy lying unconscious, we see Mr. Kennedy walk into view and discover the injured Hardy – he shouts for EMT’s and helps them attend to Hardy before heading towards the ring. [b+] We get an on-screen graphic hyping Edge vs. Mr. Kennedy telling us that it is next! [b+]

Singles Match: Edge vs. Mr. Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy is out first, but as he begins to introduce himself he is brutally attacked from behind by Edge and demands that the referee starts the match and goes for a quick cover at the bell, but only gets a two count. [b+] Edge began to put the boots to Kennedy, before mounting him and connecting with lefts and rights. Kennedy battled back and seemingly took control of the match, until he had a DDT attempt reversed and was planted by a DDT himself by Edge. Edge attempted to work over Kennedy’s legs but the Rated R Superstar was unsuccessful as Kennedy once again battled back into control of the match. Kennedy got several near falls before planting Edge with the Mic Check; but the Number One Contender managed to get his foot on the bottom rope to prevent Kennedy from winning. Edge rolled to the outside, with Kennedy quick to follow. Edge attempted to avoid Kennedy and ran away from him around the ring; as Kennedy caught up Edge dropped to the mats and hit a Drop Toe Hold – sending Kennedy face first into the steel steps. As the referee continued to count, Kennedy fought back and drove Edge into the barricade at ringside. Kennedy headed onto the apron, but Edge grabbed his foot preventing him from breaking the count. Edge pulled Kennedy down off the apron, sending him face first off the side of the ring – before sliding under the bottom rope just before the referee reached a count of 10; counting Kennedy out in 13:38. [C+]

We get a video highlights package, showing off the skills of Rob Van Dam who will be in the Royal Rumble match. [C+] We then head to the locker room to see Candice Michelle making her final preparations before her match, next! [C+]

Singles Match: Candice Michelle vs. Michelle McCool

Our penultimate match saw two Divas go head to head, but Michelle McCool proved to be too strong for Candice as she was quick to take control and then take victory following the Faith Breaker in 3:52. [D+]

The RAW REBOUND! then airs highlights from last night’s Raw, showing Randy Orton and Matt Hardy signing a contract for the Royal Rumble; whilst John Cena battled against both MVP and A-Train. [b+] We then get a graphic on-screen telling us that our main event of Christian vs. Jeff Hardy is next. [b+]

Non-Title Main Event: Jeff Hardy vs. Christian

Our non-title Main Event match, saw an injured Jeff Hardy painfully make his way to the ring to face the former WWE Champion – Christian. Christian took control of the match from the bell and worked over Hardy’s existing injured back and took advantage of his heavily taped ribs. Christian worked over the Champion in a meticulous fashion, dropping Hardy with several backbreakers and also locking in a abdominal stretch with great effect. Christian finally planted Hardy with a Reverse DDT before heading up to the top rope; he signalled for a Frog Splash – but Hardy managed to roll out of the way. As Christian hit the canvas, Hardy rolled him up for a two count. The Champion took control of the match and battled through the pain – connecting with a jawbreaker on Christian; before hitting a leg drop for a two count. As Hardy zeroed in on victory, he nailed the Twist of Fate and headed up to the top rope for the Swanton Bomb. But before Hardy could hit the move Umaga appeared at ringside and launched Hardy off the top rope. Hardy was quickly awarded the disqualification victory in 14:36. [C+]

Umaga went to work on Jeff Hardy and dropped him with a Samoan Drop, as Edge ran down to the ring. The Number One Contender and the Samoan Bulldozer put the boots to Hardy and beat him down, before Christian pulled them both away. Christian berated the pair before turning and putting the boots into Hardy himself; Edge and Umaga quickly rejoin the assault. Edge and Christian drag Hardy into the corner as Umaga charges and crushes the Champion against the turnbuckles. Mr. Kennedy runs in armed with a steel chair and swings at everybody; he connects with a shot to Christian’s head but both Edge and Umaga manage to escape unharmed. Kennedy checks on Hardy as we go off the air. [b+]

WWE Raw Results

Monday, Week 3, January 2010 [Live]

Verizon Wireless Arena – Manchester, New Hampshire

10,000 fans in Attendance

We kick things off with a highlights package showing the events of last week’s show. We see footage from the contract signing between Randy Orton and Matt Hardy to make the Royal Rumble main event official; we also see John Cena defeating Montel Vontavious Porter, but receiving a beating from both MVP and A-Train. [b+] The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduce and hype tonight's proceedings. [C]

The show starts with the World Champion Randy Orton in the ring alongside the World Tag Champs Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. Orton announces that DiBiase has something to tell the world and a point to prove – with DiBiase getting straight to the point and challenging Matt Hardy to a match tonight. [b+] The Raw General Manager, John Bradshaw Layfield makes his way out and accepts the challenge and makes the match for tonight’s main event. We get an on-screen graphic confirming our main event. Before we see a graphic for a 6-Man Battle Royal involving John Cena, Chris Jericho, Batista, Kane, Cody Rhodes, and Montel Vontavious Porter – that match is next! [b+]

Six-Man Battle Royal: John Cena vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista vs. Kane vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Montel Vontavious Porter

We kick the action off with all six men in the ring, and as the bell sounds Cena is quick to attack MVP; whilst Kane begins working Rhodes over and Jericho and Batista go back and forth. Cena drops MVP with a Spinebuster, before mounting him and raining down with rights and lefts. Our first elimination sees Cody Rhodes attempting a Crossbody from the top rope, only for Kane to catch him and drop him over the top rope. Kane turns and his hit by a Code Breaker from Jericho; but before he can capitalize Jericho is nailed by a Spear by Batista. Cena drags MVP to his feet and sends him over the top rope with an F-U; before going toe-to-toe with Batista. The Animal takes control and sets Cena up for the Batista Bomb – only for Jericho to nail him with a Bulldog from behind. Jericho hits the Lionsault on Batista, but is quickly planted with a Chokeslam by Kane. Batista and Cena both get to their feet whilst Kane chokes Jericho in the corner; with Batista charging at Cena – who moves and sends Batista crashing over the top rope. Kane turns his attention to Cena and beats him back into the corner; Jericho gets himself back together and attacks Kane from behind – once again hitting him with the Code Breaker. As Kane staggers towards the ropes, he is sent tumbling over thanks to a John Cena clothesline. Jericho attacks Cena as we are down to our final two men – Cena battles back and sets Jericho up for an F-U, when A-Train runs down to ringside. Cena releases Jericho and gets into an argument with A-Train – allowing Jericho to run up from behind and send Cena crashing over the top rope to give Jericho the victory in 15:50. [b-]

As Chris Jericho celebrates his victory in the ring, we follow John Cena and A-Train as they begin brawling at ringside. A-Train sends Cena into the barricade on the entrance ramp, but Cena battles back and delivers the same treatment to A-Train. The pair continue to brawl up the ramp and backstage. [b+] We get a video package about The Undertaker, we see highlights of his career and we are told that he is returning at the Royal Rumble. [b+]

WWE Intercontinental Title Match: John Morrison © vs. Charlie Haas

Our second match of the night sees John Morrison putting his title on the line against Charlie Haas, but making reasonably easy work of his challenger. Haas did have a decent start to the match, but once Morrison took control he never looked back and took the victory thanks to a Superkick in 6:02. [D+]

We get an on-screen graphic reminding us about Matt Hardy vs. Ted DiBiase in tonight’s main event. Before we head backstage to see Joey Styles interviewing Matt Hardy. Hardy talks about how he has battled to earn his World Title Match and how he won’t let the Legacy ruin in his match with Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble; which is why he accepted the challenge to face Ted DiBiase tonight. Hardy wants to eliminate DiBiase from the equation to give him the best chance he can to wrestle the World Title away from Orton.

Tag Team Match: Cryme Tyme (JTG & Shad Gaspard) vs. The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens)

Our tag team offering tonight saw Cryme Tyme making light work of Smackdown’s team of Douglas and Stevens – The Naturals. Shad started the match in control as he dominated both men before JTG tagged in and they isolated Chase Stevens – before hitting the G9 for the victory in 3:45. [D+]

We head backstage to the Divas Locker Room, to see Mickie James getting ready for her match. [C+] We then get on-screen confirmation that we will see Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James at the Royal Rumble for the Women’s Title. [C+]

Singles Match: Mickie James vs. Jillian Hall

Our Divas match got under way with both ladies going back and forth before Beth Phoenix made her way to ringside for a closer look. Mickie took control of the match, but she was distracted by Phoenix on the apron. As Mickie argued with Beth, Jillian charged at her from behind – only for Mickie to move out of the way and send Jillian crashing into Phoenix. Mickie takes advantage and nails Jillian with the Long Kiss Goodnight to take the victory in 3:46. [C-]

We get an on-screen graphic reminding us of the Final Match in the Intercontinental Contenders Tournament, as William Regal takes on CM Punk. [b-] We head backstage to see Joey Styles interviewing William Regal, who talks about how he has beaten CM Punk in the past – reminding us of his victory in the 2008 King of the Ring; and using that as his reason for why he will be victorious tonight. [C] As we are getting ready for the match itself, the Intercontinental Champion John Morrison makes his way to ringside, and joins us at the Announce Table.

Final Match: William Regal vs. CM Punk

Our Final match of the 4-Man Tournament pits old foes CM Punk and William Regal against each other to see who will face John Morrison in six days for the Intercontinental Title at the Royal Rumble. Regal plays mind games from the bell taking every opportunity to shout “King of the Ring” in the face of CM Punk; but Punk ignores him and delivers a swift kick to the face for his troubles. The pair go back and forth, reversing every other move as they know each other so well. The deadlock is broken when Punk builds momentum, only to be driven face first into the middle turnbuckle. Regal begins to work over Punk’s right leg – but is caught by a small package for a two count. Regal regains his composure and measures Punk for a knee to the head; but Punk sees it coming and gets out of the way. Regal charges again but receives a knee to the jaw from Punk; who lifts Regal up and nails the G.T.S. to grab the victory from the jaws of defeat in 11:20. [C+]

John Morrison applauds CM Punk’s victory as we get an on-screen graphic confirming that the two will meet for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at the Royal Rumble. [b+] The Smackdown Rebound! shows us highlights of last Friday’s show, we see Edge defeating Kennedy and then Umaga helping Edge and Christian beat down Jeff Hardy at the end of the show. [b+] We get a highlights video of the feud between Randy Orton and Matt Hardy over the World Title, beginning when Hardy earned his Title Shot and including last week’s contract signing. [b+]

Main Event Match: Matt Hardy vs. Ted DiBiase

The Number One Contender squares off with one-half of the World Tag Champions, but the World Champion is conspicuous by his absence at ringside. With only Cody Rhodes for back-up, DiBiase goes straight on the offensive – using Rhodes as a distraction to allow a sneak attack from behind. DiBiase spends much of the early proceedings in control; refusing to let Hardy battle his way back into the match. DiBiase came close to a three count following a suplex and a fist drop that left Hardy down for two. Hardy’s break in the match came when DiBiase prematurely went to lock in the Million Dollar Dream; Hardy was able to wriggle free and planted DiBiase with a Russian Leg Sweep. Hardy then gets himself a near fall following a bridged Northern Lights Suplex; with DiBiase visibly in trouble Hardy continued his offence, nailing DiBiase with a clothesline quickly followed by a bulldog for another near fall. DiBiase attempted to battle back but a clothesline attempt was reversed into the Side Effect – this caused Cody Rhodes to head onto the apron in an attempt to distract Hardy. It worked as Hardy got into Rhodes’ face, allowing DiBiase time to recover back to his feet. DiBiase charged at Hardy, only for Hardy to sidestep and send DiBiase towards his partner. DiBiase managed to stop himself, but Hardy pushed him into the ropes and into Rhodes before rolling DiBiase up for a two count. DiBiase managed to gain control of Hardy and drove him into the corner, before lifting him onto the top rope – looking for a superplex. Hardy kicked DiBiase away and sent him crashing to the canvas – before launching himself off, landing with a Diving Leg Drop from the top rope for the victory in 16:11. [C+]

Matt Hardy celebrated as Ted DiBiase was helped backstage by Cody Rhodes; as the World Tag Champions exited up the ramp they were passed by the World Champion – Randy Orton. The Legend Killer climbed into the ring forcing Hardy to stop his celebration. The pair square up to each other and lock eyes, with neither man flinching as we go off the air. [b+]

10,000 fans in Attendance

We get a highlight package detailing last week’s events, which saw Jack Swagger defeat Finlay thanks to help from Paul Burchill who then lost to Rey Mysterio – we finish the highlight’s with the end of last week’s show, a staredown between Swagger and Mysterio. [b-] The show starts with an impressive opening salvo of fireworks, before the lights are raised and several sections of the excited crowd are shown waving various signs and pieces of promotional merchandise. The focus then switches to the announce table where Todd Grisham and Matt Striker introduce and hype tonight's proceedings. [D-]

Theodore Long kicks things off as he appears at the entrance way, he tells us that he is out here to make things official for this Sunday’s Royal Rumble. Teddy tells us that the paper work has been done and Jack Swagger will defend his ECW Title against Rey Mysterio. [C+] Teddy also informs us that we will see a Four-Way Match between the four ECW participants in the Royal Rumble Match – Paul Burchill vs. Finlay vs. Tyson Tomko vs. Ezekiel Jackson. [C-] The General Manager’s final piece of business is to announce that the ECW Champion is in action, next!

Non-Title Match: Jack Swagger vs. Ricky Ortiz

Ortiz attempts to get the fans behind him as we kick off our opening contest, but despite the fans cheering him on he proved to be little threat to the All-American American. Swagger was able to withstand Ortiz’ early offence and came back strong; winning the match in 2:47 following the Red, White and Blue Thunder Bomb. [D]

The Smackdown Rebound! shows us highlights of last Friday’s show, we see Edge defeating Kennedy and then Umaga helping Edge and Christian beat down Jeff Hardy at the end of the show. [b+] We return to see Theodore Long out on the stage again, he wants to make things even and tonight he is bringing in a Superstar from Smackdown to face Rey Mysterio; a former foe – Chavo Guerrero. [C+]

Fatal Four-Way: Paul Burchill vs. Finlay vs. Tyson Tomko vs. Ezekiel Jackson

The four Royal Rumble representatives from ECW all square off in our second match of the night with Ezekiel Jackson taking out all of his opposition in the early part of the match. Jackson, under the guidance of Tony Atlas, began to focus his attack on Finlay, as Burchill and Tomko squared off on the other side of the ring. Tomko laid Burchill out with a big boot and went on the offensive on Jackson – who quickly got the upper hand with a sidewalk slam for a two count. As the big men battled Finlay took advantage of the rest and began working over Burchill. All four men would back and forth before Tomko took himself and Burchill over the top rope with a clothesline to leave Jackson and Finlay alone in the ring. Finlay reversed an attempted Full Nelson Slam and hit the Celtic Cross from out of nowhere on the big man and stole the victory in 9:47. [C-]

The RAW REBOUND! then airs highlights from last Monday’s Raw, showing Matt Hardy being victorious over Ted DiBiase; Chris Jericho winning a 6-man Battle Royal and the end of show staredown between Orton and Hardy. [b+] Jack Swagger then makes his way back to ringside, taking a seat at the announce table to provide guest commentary on our main event. [b-]

Main Event: Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

Our main event began with Swagger hurling abuse at Mysterio, allowing Chavo to gain the advantage from the bell. The third generation Guerrero kept Mysterio grounded on the mat and worked over both of his legs in an attempt to cancel out Rey’s aerial advantage. Chavo continues to control the match and gains a near two count following a bridged German Suplex; before attempting to hit the Three Amigos. Chavo only got as far as two, before Rey reversed and nailed the third himself. Rey went on the offensive and, despite his injured legs, hit a tilt-a-whirl head scissors and scored a near fall for himself. Despite Chavo’s best efforts, Rey managed to set him up for the 619 – but Guerrero had the wherewithal to block the 619 itself and dragged Mysterio into the ring and into a Boston Crab. With Chavo holding the submission in tight, Rey struggled to reach the ropes. He didn’t make the bottom rope, but did manage to twist his body and use his momentum to drop Chavo onto the middle rope. Rey got to his feet and hit the ropes before nailing Chavo with the 619 – as Chavo fell backwards onto the canvas, Rey used the top rope as a springboard and Dropped The Dime on Chavo to pick up the victory in 11:47. [C]

Rey Mysterio continues to celebrate his victory as Jack Swagger leaves his position at the announce table. Swagger sneaks into the ring undetected, and attacks Mysterio from behind. Swagger quickly beats him down, planting him with the Gutwrench Powerbomb – before standing tall with his ECW Title held high as we go off the air. [b+]
