TNA News

American Dragon suffered an injury working for another promotion on Thursday night. He has torn a quadricep and will miss 5 months and 3 weeks of action. With TNA's finances dwindling, and his well paid contract due to expire in less than three weeks, he will be let go when it expires.

A one season deal has been signed to broadcast a recording of Impact late night on a Wednesday on WGN. This expands Impact into the Great Lakes, Mid Atlantic and Mid West as well as into Canada for the first time. TNA's expanding TV coverage will hopefully reverse the declining finances.

A one season extension has been signed with both WLMT-TV and MSG.

Ken Shramrock v Jerry Lynn

A very good match, helped by the great chemistry the two share, although slightly hindered by a lack of selling. Jerry Lynn defeated Ken Shamrock in 18:05 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver following interference from Samoa Joe. B

Better, the show is saved... :)

He leads them through a standard bikini contest in hushed tones - taking turns to wow the audience - before letting the crowd decide who wins. SoCal Val is announced as the winner, after which Mystery makes out with all three ladies. He leaves the ring... and thanks to his long hair and black hood he was wearing, plus his black mask when wrestling, we still haven't seen Mystery's face since entering TNA. D

Potter defeated Rocky Romero in 10:55 by submission with a Sharpshooter. C+

TNA News

From the next Impact, WGN will broadcast a recording of the show on Wednesdays in the late night slot. This expands Impact into the Great Lakes, Mid Atlantic and Mid West regions of the USA as well as into all of Canada. This should hopefully bring a boost to TNA's dwindling finances. While the company had it's best month financially last month, it still made a significant loss.

Numerous new talents have been signed in readyness for Regal Rumble and will debut over the coming weeks.

Wednesday, week 2, September 2003

Dodge City Civic Center, Dodge City, KS.

"EVERYBODY WANTS TO RUMBLE"

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett's promo was interrupted by Jerry Lynn, and the two engaged in a war of words about who will come out on top at Regal Rumble. C

Delirious v Xavier

It's announcer during the introductions that this is a Regal Rumble qualifying match. The crowd are completely turned off by having a match between two jobbers and thus the match falls flat on it's face. Delirious defeated Xavier in 5:57 by pinfall by using a handful of tights. F

Axl Rotten and The Sandman come down to the ring and they both proclaim they are entering the Regal Rumble and they will make it extreme. Sabu then comes down and tells them that it can only be extreme if he is included. Sandman and Sabu stare each other down before delivering a vicious beatdown on Axl with chairs that Sabu had brought down. CM Punk runs out with a chair of his own and saves Axl from an extreme beating. He then challenges Sabu & Sandman to a hardcore tag team match later on, which they accept. D

Psicosis v Seaman Stains

Stains again wears the sailor's outfit as he gyrates his way to ringside and cuts a short promo laced with innuendo. A good match follows, helped by the two showing great chemistry. Psicosis defeated Seaman Stains in 8:32 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. C

Nova had an interview hyping himself saying how he has arrived in TNA and plans to make an impact in the Regal Rumble. Shame he didn't in this segment. E

Frankie Kazarian v Mystery

The match wasn't helped by the two not clicking. Mystery defeated Frankie Kazarian in 6:51 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. D-

Ernest Miller then runs down to the ring and starts to beat on Mystery. Rey runs down to make the save, but this time Miller cuts him off, low blows him and handcuffs him to the ropes. He then proceeds to decimate Mystery as Rey watches helpless. D

Hardcore Match

CM Punk & Axl Rotten v Sabu & The Sandman

Punk puts in a good performance. Sabu and The Sandman defeated Axl Rotten and CM Punk in 10:37 when Sabu defeated Axl Rotten by pinfall with an Arabian Facebuster off a ladder. D+

Gail Kim and Tracy Brooks are seen backstage, engaging in a vicious catfight, even fighting in the shower stalls! D+

Spank Wang are in the ring prior to their match, and they talk about how they will end Joe & Rotundo's reign at Regal Rumble. D-

Beer Money v Spank Wang

Spank Wang defeated Beer Money in 9:06 when Spanky defeated Robert Roode by pinfall with an Oooo I Say! D

Potter cuts a promo about his past and Regal Rumble with Mike Tenay. C+

Jerry Lynn, AJ Styles, Potter & Rey Mysterio Jr v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, Ernest Miller & Chris Candido

Jarrett was poor tonight, and as booker I'm getting annoyed by his repeated blocking of any defeat I wish him to suffer. AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, Rey Mysterio Jr and Potter drew with 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Ernest Miller, Samoa Joe and Chris Candido in 12:47 following a double disqualification when all eight men brawled in the ring. “THE NUMBERS GAME”

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe and Mike Rotundo accept the challenge laid by Potter, Rey Mysterio Jr and Ken Shamrock and say they will continue their dominance. C

England Expects v Amazing Red & Shark Boy

England Expects defeated Amazing Red and Shark Boy in 5:53 when Doug Williams defeated Shark Boy by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. The crowd’s mood has been lowered sitting through this. D-

Gail Kim and Tracy Brooks are in the ring having a pillow fight, much to the fan's delight. Brooks knocks Kim out cold, before revealing a brick inside one of the pillows. D

Mike Tenay is backstage in the staging area where the entrance numbers are being drawn. Carlito is there to draw his number. He takes one, and looks pleased, but he doesn't let Tenay take a peek. C+

Hardcore Match

Axl Rotten v The Sandman

The Sandman defeated Axl Rotten in 6:10 by pinfall with a White Russian Leg Sweep. Axl was poor, as was the match. E+

SoCal Val stands in Mystery’s locker room, takes off her top and flashes Mystery (but, sadly, not the cameras) distracting him long enough for Ernest Miller to attack from behind! Val runs off screaming for help. D+

CM Punk had an interview hyping his Hardcore Championship defence with Sabu. Tables, ladders and chairs! Expect hell! D+

Ariel v Melina Perez

Ariel debuts and defeats Melina Perez in 5:03 by pinfall with an Ariel-Go-Round. E+

Mike Tenay is backstage in the staging area where the entrance numbers are being drawn. Ken Shamrock is there to draw his number. He takes one, and looks incredibly unhappy, but he doesn't let Tenay take a peek. C

Rey Mysterio Jr cuts a promo hyping up his X Division Championship defence with Ernest Miller at Regal Rumble. D+

AJ Styles v Super Crazy

AJ Styles defeated Super Crazy in 8:41 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C+

A video plays hyping 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett vs. Jerry Lynn, recounting their recent history and previewing their NWA TNA Championship match on Sunday. B-

Streetfight

‘Cowboy’ James Storm v ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

'Wildcat' Chris Harris defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm in 10:46 by pinfall with a Catatonic. Harris holds his arms aloft and looks relieved the whole saga may be coming to an end. C+

Davey Boy Smith and Sheik Abdul Bashir are seen backstage in the staging area where the entrance numbers are being drawn, talking to themselves. Suddenly, the two workers shake hands. The camera zooms in, revealing they just switched battle royal numbers! E

A video plays hyping a six man tag team match between 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe and Mike Rotundo and Potter, Ken Shamrock, and Rey Mysterio Jr. C-

Jarrett’s World Order v Potter, Ken Shramrock & Rey Mysterio Jr

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe and Mike Rotundo defeated Potter, Ken Shamrock and Rey Mysterio Jr in 15:45 when Mike Rotundo defeated Rey Mysterio Jr by pinfall with a Tax Cut. Again, Jarrett refused the booking when I asked his side to lose. I’m getting sick of Jarrett steadfastly refusing to job any match at all. C

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Tracy Brooks v Gail Kim

Gail Kim defeated Tracy Brooks in 7:36 by submission with an Octopus Stretch. Gail Kim wins the TNA Ladies title. E+

Again, the ladies let us down when it comes to a decent match.

TNA HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP

TLC match

CM Punk v Sabu

CM Punk defeated Sabu in 14:49 when CM Punk retrieved the belt. CM Punk makes defence number 1 of his TNA Hardcore title. Both men were a battered and bloody mess following a good match. Punk seems to be reviving the hardcore division. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Rey Mysterio Jr v Ernest Miller

Rey put in a very good performance, and his good chemistry with Miller lifted the match. Miller was tiring towards the end though. Rey Mysterio Jr defeated Ernest Miller in 16:49 by pinfall after a distraction from Mystery. Rey Mysterio Jr makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Samoa Joe & Mike Rotundo v Spank Wang

Joe puts in a strong performance, and another good match means apart from the ladies match, it has been a solid pay per view thus far. Samoa Joe and Mike Rotundo defeated Spank Wang in 13:54 when Samoa Joe defeated Spanky by pinfall with an Island Driver. Samoa Joe and Mike Rotundo make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C-

Regal Rumble

30 competitors including AJ Styles, Caribbean Cool, Chris Candido, British Bulldog, Ken Shramrock, Potter, Psicosis and The Sandman. Curry Man was going to be the 30th man, but decline to compete for so long in a company he is not contracted too. New signing B-Boy takes his place.

Delirious was delirious when Abyss threw him like a missile out of the ring only ten seconds after he entered it. He also eliminated both Briscoes in one go. Shramrock lasted the longest, entering at number 4 he lasted nearly 45 minutes. AJ Styles won the Regal Rumble in 68:47. The final four competitors also included Davey Boy Smith, Colt Cabana and Carlito, with Davey Boy Smith being the final elimination. AJ Styles gets a NWA TNA championship match. C-

Having picked up the victory, AJ Styles celebrates in the ring. C

As we wait for the main event, Don West and Tenay run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Jerry Lynn

A quality match to end a solid show, arguably one of TNA's best yet. Again Jarrett refuses to drop the title though as 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Jerry Lynn in 29:14 by pinfall with The Stroke. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 6 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-After the match, with the ring cleared, AJ Styles and 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett stare each other down. Neither breaks the stare, and the crowd rumble in anticipation. C

Show rating: C+ - considered a success and should increase our popularity.

Attendance: 5000 (sellout)

A press conference is broadcast to open the show, where TNA officials announce the first War Games match at Halloween Havoc. Potter and British Bulldog are in attendance and are introduced as the two team captains, which sparks a brief war of words. C

Frankie Kazarian and Nova arrive together and tell the cameraman who is filming them that they are a new team called Revolution. Nobody appears interested. F+

Revolution v England Expects

Revolution defeated England Expects in 6:51 when Frankie Kazarian defeated Nigel McGuinness by pinfall with a Wave Of The Future. A win for the new team, people are a little interested now. D-

Mystery is backstage, walking towards ringside when Mickie James stops him, wishes him luck and plants a good luck kiss on his lips. Mystery can't hide his smile. E+

B-Boy v Mystery

Mystery defeated B-Boy in 5:31 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. D+

Beer Money attack Xavier backstage, and leave him down and out. E-

TNA HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk v The Sandman

CM Punk defeated The Sandman in 10:51 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 2 of his TNA Hardcore title. D+

The match is over. CM Punk walks over and offers his hand as a sign of respect to Sandman for putting up a great fight. Sandman thinks it over, accepts the handshake, then floors CM Punk with a clothesline and continues by stomping on Punk. D

CM Punk is being attacked by The Sandman in the ring. Seeing the assault, Axl Rotten comes running in and chases Sandman off, saving CM Punk from a serious beating. D

Sandman's heel turn is viewed as a disaster.

Backstage, we see Ken Shamrock and Potter in the middle of a conversation... C

Beer Money v Caribbean Cool

During this match Don West reveals that TNA Management had decreed that CM Punk defends his Hardcore Championship at War Games against Axl Rotten and The Sandman and that should he lose the championship in the mean time, the new champion will make it a four way.

Caribbean Cool drew with Beer Money in 7:24 following a double count out with all four men brawling outside of the ring. D

Match quality is not very high tonight. :(

In the ring, Super Crazy challenges Rey Mysterio Jr to a match for the X Division title. Rey doesn't appear. E+

Mike Tenay interviews AJ Styles in a pre-recorded segment, but before the interview has concluded, 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett runs in out of nowhere and attacks Styles! C+

Ernest Miller v Jerry Lynn

Jerry Lynn defeated Ernest Miller in 13:12 by disqualification when Miller knocked the referee out for not allowing him to use a steel chair. C

Potter comes out and says that it is time for him to reveal his first teammate for War Games. Out comes Ken Shamrock, and joins his partner in the ring and the two shake hands. C

AJ Styles v Samoa Joe

A good match, helped by the two's chemistry but hindered by a lack of psychology and flow. AJ Styles defeated Samoa Joe in 13:51 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C+

While AJ Styles recovers in the ring, 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Mike Rotundo and Samoa Joe run in and attack, beating Styles down into the mat as Impact goes off air. C-
