DARK MATCH

Ring Wizards defeated Sexual Standouts in 8:37 when Mike Quackenbush defeated Seaman Stains by pinfall with an As If By Magic. D

Championship Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, December 2004

The Oil Palace, Tyler, TX.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring and says that this is a special extended, championship edition of Explosion which will run for an extra half an hour. He announces the challengers for the evening... Lou Fisto will challenge Amy Dumas, Chico & The Man will challenge Spanish Announce Team, Amazing Red will challenge Juventud Guerrera, Suicide will challenge Scott Steiner while Spanky will have the chance of his lifetime by getting pummeled by Jeff Jarrett.

This prompts Sting's music to hit, but he doesn't walk out alone... he is accompanied by AJ Styles. Sting asks Jarrett what he is doing. Does he not want TNA to progress? Does he not want the stars of tomorrow to develop? Does he need to feed his ego so badly he has to be at the centre of everything in TNA? Give AJ what he deserves, give him his title match.

Jarrett ponders this, and surprisingly agrees to Sting's request... by replacing Amazing Red with AJ Styles as the X Division challenger.

Teddy Hart's music then hits and he joins the trio in the ring. He says he wants his revenge at Sting for costing him the World Championship. Jarrett sees ratings and he makes the match as tonight's main event. Sting stares at Jarrett in disbelief as Jarrett and Hart leave the ring. C+

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Lou Fisto

A watchable ladies match... barely. At least the standard was better than previous. Amy defeats the woman she beat for the championship some time ago in 8:42 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 10 of her TNA Ladies title. D-

A video is shown profiling Steve Corino and Mike Tenay and Don West discuss his chances in Feast or Fired. C

A wolf howl is heard through the arena...

Desmond Wolfe v Jimmy Rave

And out walks TNA's latest signing. Nigel McGuinness was not much of a success in TNA previously, but he has been working in other companies and is now back as Desmond Wolfe. He easily gets the better of Jimmy Rave in 6:46 by pinfall with a Tower of London. D-

Ken Shamrock is backstage when he is again attacked by the masked man. This time the masked man hovers over him and removes his mask... it's D'Lo Brown! The crowd hate it! E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team (champions) v Chico & The Man

A comfortable defence for the champions in a lacklustre match let down further by poor performances from Jose Maximo and Matt Cappotelli. The champs were so much in control then spent a fair portion of the match posing and flipping off the crowd. Rocky Romero put up a good fight but he was badly let down by his partner. The champs retained in 11:31 when Joel Maximo defeated Matt Cappotelli by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

Scott Steiner is making his way out for his title defence when Suicide appears from who knows where, nails Steiner from behind and hits a Suicide Solution on the stage.

After a commercial break which allows Steiner some recovery time, the match goes ahead.

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Scott Steiner (champion) v Suicide

This helps set up a good match and naturally gives Suicide the early upper hand. He even gets a near fall on Steiner in the first couple of minutes. Steiner leaves the ring and recuperates, especially so when he avoids an aerial assault from Suicide that sees him fly into the ringside barricade. Steiner's power advantage then gains him the upperhand which ultimately leads to a successful title defence in 18:25 by submission with a Steiner Recliner. Scott Steiner makes defence number 4 of his TNA National title. C+

Spanky is backstage and says that Jeff Jarrett was right at the start of the show, this is his chance of a lifetime. He'll be damned though if he's going to let Jarrett "pummel" him. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Spanky

Another good match and Spanky gives his all against Jarrett but the difference in class ultimately shows through. Jarrett doesn't treat Spanky seriously at first, taunting and mocking him and this nearly leads to a quick defeat. Jarrett then gets mad and throws an angry assault at Spanky, initially successful but then Spanky avoids Jarrett's fury and nearly gets another flash victory. Jarrett then gets his head together and uses all his ring savvy to earn the victory in 20:31 by pinfall with The Stroke. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 13 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C+

Harley Race is backstage and talks up his monster Abyss, and how he will bulldoze his way through everybody in Feast or Fired and claim the World Championship case. Surprisingly this segment bombs. E+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Juventud Guerrera (champion) v AJ Styles

A match much in the same vein as their match last week which perhaps made it a little worse than it should have been, the only difference being that the two fought to an entertaining, but not outstanding, 30 minute time limit draw. C+

A video montage is shown of Jerry Lynn training for Feast or Fired. C

Sting v Teddy Hart

A very good match, exactly what everybody had hoped for since it was announced. Teddy showed youthful enthuiasm yet ring skills and savvy beyond his young years and was Sting's biggest challenge since coming to TNA a few months ago. The end came when Teddy locked in the Sharpshooter, only for Sting to reverse the hold into his version, the Scorpion Deathlock and win in 22:40. After the match Sting shows his respect for Teddy Hart's ability, but then his face doesn't hide his disgust when Hart flips him off and retreats up the ramp. B

Show rating: B-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 9817 (new TNA record)

Buy rate: 0.18 (new Explosion record)

Profit: $105,501 (new Explosion record)

I've decided.

I'm going to complete 2004 with this diary, then start afresh using Genadi's 2002 database again, probably with TNA again on TEW10.

With the change, I'm only going to do relatively brief write ups for the remaining shows. I'm hoping to start playing on TEW10 as soon as Friday, though that isn't certain yet.

I'll alter the prediction prize too to reflect this.

DARK MATCH

Desmond Wolfe defeated Tony Mamaluke in 8:19 by pinfall with a Tower of London. D-

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, December 2004

John Q. Hammons Center, Springfield, MO.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring to open the show and he tells about how he's not worried about Sting at Christmas Feast, as he has plans to be able to overcome him. He knows what he is doing with TNA, it's his damn company. He then calls out Sting.

Sting comes out and tells Jarrett he just doesn't get it. Jarrett tells him he does... and calls out Ken Shamrock!

Shamrock's music hits and he walks out none too amused. Jarrett gets in Sting's face and tells him tonight he faces Ken Shamrock one on one... if he doesn't, he loses his title match at Christmas Feast. Sting is none too amused either now, but it turns into a smile when Shamrock punches Jarrett square in the face before leaving without a word. C+

Caribbean Cool v Sexual Standouts

Sexual Standouts defeated Caribbean Cool in 12:11 when Seaman Stains defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall with a Tidal Wave. Carlito again gets in Colt's face following their loss. D+

Following the match, the two are still arguing when Mike Tenay approaches them at the announce table. Carlito tells Tenay that Colt needs to start pulling his weight in this team, at which Colt argues that Carlito's ego is getting in the way. E+

Beer Money v Spank Wang

Both Yang and Spanky put in good performances. Jimmy Yang has changed to a hero gimmick, which has got an initial A rating. Beer Money defeated Spank Wang in 12:48 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Spanky by pinfall with a DWI. D+

Spanish Announce Team run into the ring, and lay Roode out cold after a vicious double power bomb. James Storm runs in brandishing a chain and runs SAT off but it's too late, the damage has been done. E

American Dragon v Steve Corino

More 'previews' of Feast or Fired. The two showed good chemistry and Steve Corino defeated American Dragon in 10:41 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C-

In an interview with Mike Tenay at the announce table, Harley Race talks up Abyss chances in Feast or Fired, saying he will decimate anybody in his path to obtain a case. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team v Potter & Ron Killings

An odd couple of opponents for the champions, and Potter's and Killing's complete lack of experience teaming up cost them here. Spanish Announce Team defeated Ron Killings and Potter in 9:41 when Joel Maximo defeated Ron Killings by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Scott Steiner says that Super is crazy and that he is The Big Bad Booty Daddy with all the bitches he wants. That and he will defend his title at Christmas. Ho ho ho. Entertaining segment. B-

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Amazing Red v Abyss & Jerry Lynn

More Feast or Fired combatants square off in a good match. Abyss and Jerry Lynn defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown and Amazing Red in 10:32 when Jerry Lynn defeated Amazing Red by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. C-

After the match, Harley Race instructs Abyss to attack Jerry Lynn. He does, and hits The Black Hole Slam. C

AJ Styles makes his way to the ring for his match. C-

AJ Styles v Super Crazy

These two met a couple of days ago where Super Crazy beat AJ Styles for the NWA:Wildside Georgia Championship in an A rated match. This was also very good, but not to that standard. AJ Styles defeated Super Crazy in 17:32 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. B-

Ken Shamrock v Sting

This match was ruled a no contest in 17:55 when Jeff Jarrett and D'Lo Brown hit the ring together, attacked Sting and Ken Shamrock respectively. Jarrett & D'Lo hold their arms aloft following the beatdown. C-

Show rating: C

Attendance: 8036

Buy rate: 0.18 (equals Explosion record)

PRE SHOW

Ken Anderson defeated Super Dragon in 8:31 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. D-

'Cowboy' James Storm is in the ring giving an interview. Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo come out and enter the ring. After some back-and-forth insults, they attack, laying Cowboy out two-on-one. Potter comes out from the back, hits the ring, and cleans house, saving Cowboy. E - You now know why this was done pre show.

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, December 2004

Beasley Performing Arts Center, Pullman, WA.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring, telling everybody how this coming Sunday not only will he keep his NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship, he will also rid TNA of the cancer that is known as Sting. All he has said since he has arrived in TNA is how I am taking TNA in the wrong direction, how I only look after myself and my buddies. Sting, I've busted my ass off for three years to develop TNA... you have no idea what building a company from scratch is like.

Sting then drops into the ring, literally as he is lowered in on a harness right in front of Jarrett, scaring the crap out of him. He asks Jarrett where are the talented young guys at the top of the card? AJ was here but you've let him drop away. American Dragon has never got his chance. Neither has Colt Cabana, Christopher Daniels or Spanky. Rey Mysterio and Samoa Joe (both got cheers) got so fed up waiting they to Mexico and Japan. Teddy Hart has the world at his feet if he can sort out his attitude and he's the only one you've given an opportunity these past few months.

Jarrett replies by saying that names not talent bring in ratings and money, and whether he likes it or not, that's what this business revolves round. Sting says we'll see after Sunday, and gets lifted back up out of the ring. C

Desmond Wolfe v Trent Acid

Disappointing match. Desmond Wolfe defeated Trent Acid in 7:22 by pinfall with a Tiger Bomb. E+

Backstage, Spanky is seen being checked by the company physician, Dr. Viagra. When the doc suggests Spanky takes the rest of the night off, he brushes off his order and leaves the locker room, cursing Daniels for attacking him when he arrived at the arena earlier today. C

Petey Williams v Rocky Romero

A little better than the opening contest, Rocky Romero defeated Petey Williams in 6:53 by pinfall with a High Speed. D

Ken Shamrock talks about how he is going to beat D'Lo Brown within an inch of his life as he is such a coward, hiding behind a mask in recent weeks and attacking Shamrock from behind. C

Ron Killings & Spanky v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels and Slyk Wagner Brown

Spanky was feeling the affects of Daniels' apparent attack before the show started. Despite this he put in a standout performance in a solid enough match. The beatdown took it's toll though as 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels and Slyk Wagner Brown defeated Ron Killings and Spanky in 11:20 when 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels defeated Spanky by pinfall with a Last Rites. C-

A music video is shown to promote Suicide. C

Doug Williams v Mike Quackenbush

I expected somewhat better from two solid in ring performers. Doug Williams defeated Mike Quackenbush in 9:51 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. D

Jerry Lynn is walking to the ring for the ten man Feast or Fired preview tag team match, saying how he intends to be the one standing at the end of this, and standing with a World Title match at Feast or Fired. C+

Feast or Fired Preview 10 Man Tag

Caribbean Cool, Abyss, Jerry Lynn & Steve Corino v Sexual Standouts, 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown, Amazing Red & American Dragon

The match broke down into a huge 10 man brawl in 13:52 and Garry Morere disqualified both teams. Once the mess had cleared, Abyss and Jerry Lynn were left staring each other down in the ring, though neither engaged in further physicality. D+

Scott Steiner is shown backstage, where officials are trying to calm him down. He is furious as he has just found that somebody has broken into his locker and stole his title belt. He repeated yells 'Crazy'. C+

Spanish Announce Team (tag team champions) & Juventud Guerrera (X division champion) v 'Cowboy' James Storm, Potter & Jimmy Yang

Juventud looked good in this match as Jose Maximo, Joel Maximo and Juventud Guerrera defeated Jimmy Yang, 'Cowboy' James Storm and Potter in 15:51 when Juventud Guerrera defeated Jimmy Yang by pinfall with a Juvi Driver. C-

AJ Styles and Teddy Hart meet backstage, and get into a heated confrontation about who is the future of TNA. C+

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (NWA TNA champion), Teddy Hart & D'Lo Brown v Sting, AJ Styles & Ken Shamrock

Teddy put in a standout performance in this one, eclipsing the established stars and his fellow bright star AJ. He couldn't enable his team to win though as Sting, AJ Styles and Ken Shamrock defeated 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Teddy Hart and D'Lo Brown in 22:31 when AJ Styles defeated D'Lo Brown by pinfall with a Styles Clash. PRE SHOW

Rocky Romero defeated Petey Williams, Sheik Abdul Bashir and Trent Acid in 8:50 when Rocky Romero defeated Trent Acid by submission with a Diablo Armbar. D+

Christmas Feast 2004

Sunday, week 4, December 2004

Mississippi Coast Coliseum, Biloxi, MS.

Sting and Jeff Jarrett meet for the last time. Jeff Jarrett asks Sting if he is going to retire after he loses tonight. Sting simply says he isn't going to lose. He then asks if Jarrett will enjoy seeing Sting take TNA in the right direction rather than he. Jarrett replies by saying 'over my dead body'. Tensions are high and everything is at stake for Jarrett. C+

Ron Killings v Slyk Wagner Brown

Ron Killings defeated Slyk Wagner Brown in 6:40 by pinfall with a Truth Or Consequences. D+

AJ Styles is shown arriving backstage in a limosuine. He steps out and walks towards the arena. B

Doug & Frank v Ring Wizards

A good match, better than people expected thanks in part to Doug Williams' stellar performance. This also helps his team win in 11:10 when Doug Williams defeated Ken Anderson by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. C

A music video is shown to promote Death Dealers. C

Briscoe Brothers v Death Dealers

Wow, the wrestling has gone up a notch, this was an entertaining match and has very much raised the stock of both teams. Briscoe Brothers defeated Death Dealers in 12:37 when Jay Briscoe defeated Suicide by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed and this win in such a good match could well propel them to tag team championship contendership. B-

'Cowboy' James Storm attacks Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo backstage with beer bottles, and lays them both out. He says he wants revenge for what they did for Robert Roode by taking their prized possession - the tag team championship belts. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team (champions) v 'Cowboy' James Storm & Potter

Potter is the substitute for Robert Roode and his time out of the ring shows here but it doesn't detract from the quality of the match. SAT recover sufficently from the attack prior to the match to defend their titles in 14:27 when Jose Maximo defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 6 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. This is shaping up to be one of TNA's best ever shows... C+

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Spanky

Another quality match, 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels defeated Spanky in 15:32 by pinfall after using a metal cross behind Mark Johnson's back. C+

Abyss and 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown are backstage, and are squaring off, arguing about the upcoming Feast or Fired match. The argument soon turns physical, and they are joined by Jerry Lynn, Carlito and Mystery for a wild brawl, with the chaos spilling out all around the backstage area. Eventually a number of officials and other wrestlers arrive and pull them apart before they kill each other. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Juventud Guerrera (champion) v Jimmy Yang

Good chemistry between the two elevated this match to of very good quality, and this show is one that TNA can be proud of already. Yang fought for all he could, but Juventud Guerrera defeated Jimmy Yang in 10:39 by pinfall with a Juvi Driver. Juventud Guerrera makes defence number 5 of his TNA X Division title. B-

Feast or Fired

Abyss (with Harley Race), 'Alpha Male Monty Brown', Amazing Red, American Dragon, Carlito, Colt Cabana, Jerry Lynn, Mystery, Seaman Stains, Steve Corino

The new match is... an outstanding success, chock full of entertainment, action and the crowd was enthralled. Amazing Red was very intelligent at the start, waited for everybody else to start brawling, then was up and climbing the corner like a cat and retrieved case 1 in a matter of seconds. After around six minutes, Abyss sees Steve Corino and Monty Brown fighting in a corner beneath case 4. Abyss charges, squashes them both in the corner, climbs and grabs case 4 with Monty and Corino splattered on the canvas beneath him. The two tag teams take each other out of the match when they start brawling around the entrance area, which allows American Dragon and Jerry Lynn to get the better of Monty Brown and Steve Corino. Dragon and Lynn meet in center ring, but as opposed to fighting, they agree to take a case each. Lynn gets case 2 and Dragon gets case 3 in 16:50.

Then it's time to open the cases... The four men are on the stage with their respective cases and Don West is on hand to do the mic work...

Case 1... Amazing Red... Tag Team Championship match.

Case 2... Jerry Lynn... World Championship match.

Case 3... American Dragon... YOU'RE FIRED!

Case 4... Abyss... X Division Championship match. B-

The camera cuts backstage where we find Ken Shamrock warming up. C

Ken Shamrock v D'Lo Brown

The worst match of the night, not helped by the two not clicking. Thankfully it was also the shortest as Shamrock dominated, winning in 2:45 by submission with an Ankle Lock. D

Scott Steiner is walking to the ring when, out of nowhere, Super Crazy attacks. He connects with his finisher, leaving Scott Steiner out cold. C

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Scott Steiner (champion) v Super Crazy

Crazy utilised his pre match attack to get the early upper hand, but then the match became disjointed. It was still watchable, with Steiner getting back on top and defending in 11:55 by submission with a Steiner Recliner. Scott Steiner makes defence number 5 of his TNA National title. C

AJ Styles v Teddy Hart

This was a very good match, but what might it have been had the two both had the psychology to create a proper flow to the match and the chemistry to gel together properly. However, these two are very much in the future of TNA... if Hart can control his bad attitude. On this occasion, AJ wins in 29:15 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. Might this be for the World Championship one day? B-

As we wait for the match between 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett and Sting to commence, Don West and Tenay run us through the Tale Of The Tape. E+

Sting makes his way from the depths of the building into the arena. B

Jeff Jarrett then makes his way from his own, private locker room. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Sting

A thoroughly entertaining match. Rumour has it that Jarrett initially refused to job in this one. However, Sting accomplished what he set out to do when first coming into TNA seven months ago and now he has the World Championship, he now has some power to take TNA in the direction he sees fit. However, the finish was controversial as in 29:39 Sting won by pinfall but with his right leg under the bottom rope and his foot dangling over the side of the ring. Sting wasn't cheating per se, but Mark Johnson failed to spot his foot out of the ring and shouldn't have counted the fall. Sting wins the NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B

Having picked up the victory, Sting celebrates in the ring. B

Show rating: B-

The show is considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

PREDICTION COMPETITION

BHK 11

Olympia 10

Destiny 8

Nobody scored any bonus points from matching wrestlers to their cases in Feast or Fired.

BHK wins, and his prize is to select six wrestlers to compete in Ultimate X to crown the first X Division Champion in my new TNA diary on TEW10. Two things to bear in mind BHK... we're back to May 2002 and Jeff Jarrett has placed some quite tight restraints on signing X Division wrestlers. See the thread I have started in the TEW10 Dynasty forum for full details.

impressive list of guys making the top 100 from TNA.

nice to see Mystery get his due coming in near the middle. M

Maybe it was all the "rust" matches that hurt Sting and kept him in the lower quarter. As champ, would expect him to reach the top 25 next year; however, it didn't look like this year's longtime champ Jeff Jarrett did not make the list?
