Outta Curiousity Why Have I Never Heard Of Any Of These Fighters?

Haha, I forget that not everybody knows who these fighters were. I was talking to my friend the other day and I mentioned Hassan Fezzik, to which my friend asked, "Who is he?" I couldn't believe it and tried to explain who he was and what he could do and then realised that he doesn't actually exist. :p

Essentially using the FSC database, but just with the extra fighters and division changes:

GAMMA - January 2003

1. Neil Napier (22-0, 13-0 GAMMA)

Current lightweight champion with one defence under his belt. Started at welterweight with wins over Henson, Pimm, Kendall and Asanovic but refused to fight team mate Sean Morrison for the title. Made the shift down to 155 lbs and was thrust straight into a No. 1 contender's match against Petey Mack. Took that by decision, beat Julio Regueiro by decision to claim the title and then defended it over five rounds against Ho Li-Kong. Three wins over three of the finest lightweights in the world makes him one of the best fighters in the world. (#2 P4P Worldwide)

2. Sean Morrison (31-3, 19-1 GAMMA)

One of the finest fighters in MMA history, Morrison has been almost unbeatable at 170 lbs. Wasn't taken past the second round as he finished Asanovic, Henson, Kendall and Blue before grinding out a dominant decision win over Alberto Basora at GAMMA 64. The division is very thin, but he gets his first real test in a while against Carlos da Guia at GAMMA 69. da Guia is a natural Bantamweight, but is undefeated in MMA and coming off first round knock outs of Go Yamamoto and Dominykas Jankovic. (#5 P4P Worldwide)

3. Ho Li-Kong (22-1, 2-1 GAMMA)

Bit of a controversial choice, but Ho still has an exceptional record. Joined GAMMA after his contract ran out with KDM-FC and started off with big name wins against Bruce Steven and then former Lightweight champion J.J. Reid. Had his chance at the title against Napier at GAMMA 63 but was beaten by unanimous decision, and after a long absence he returns at GAMMA 70 against the dangerous Simon Vine. (#6 P4P Worldwide)

4. Mike Watson (13-1, 11-1 GAMMA)

One of the most exciting middleweights in the world, Watson finished off 2000 in fine fashion by claiming the title with a second round knock out of Matthew Dean. He looked like he'd be unstoppable as champion, before twenty seconds into the fourth round of his first title defence he was out like a light from an Ashley Ballard head kick. He rebounded by taking out Dean in their second meeting and then claimed the title for the second time by finishing new champion Buddy Garner. He hasn't fought for nearly a year, but makes his first defence against Interim Middleweight Champion Stuart Strange at GAMMA 70. (#8 P4P Worldwide)

5. Tim Boyer (25-4-2, 17-3 GAMMA)

Earned a title shot at James Foster after beating MMA legend Gunnar Nilsson by decision but was subsequently destroyed by elbows in the third round and was back down the pecking order. He had a lot to work on with the Slaughterhouse, and worked his way back to a title shot with three very deserving decision wins over Norbert Vinkus, Kevin Portman and then Junior Patinkin. Was a raging underdog against the man who was the best fighter in the world at the time, but snatched the title off Armen Sarkisian with a head kick in the second round to finish off 2002 by taking the GAMMA Heavyweight Title. (#9 P4P Worldwide)

6. Armen Sarkisian (20-1, 4-1 GAMMA)

The Armenian was dominant in SIGMA through 2000 as he finished all three of his opponents to become Super Heavyweight Champion, but made the step down to 265 lbs in search of more coin. He needed just one win to prove he deserved a crack at James Foster as he took just 2:49 to finish Maarten de Vries with strikes. He wasn't expected to pose a big threat to Foster, but for four rounds outgrappled him and manhandled him to take a 49-46 win across all cards. Had an easy first defence against Jeff Carlton before a much tougher second showdown with de Vries, but he went into the Boyer fight as P4P the best fighter in the world. He looks to bounce back from the knock out at GAMMA 71 when he takes on Curt Kitson. (#10 P4P Worldwide)

7. Stuart Strange (15-2, 12-2 GAMMA)

Not everyone's favourite fighter, and was a bit of a surprise to shoot up the rankings like he did. He had an opportunity to win himself a title shot, but was outgrappled by Buddy Garner and went down by points in May 2001. He returned ten months later to submit former champion Ashley Ballard in the first round and it put him in the position for an Interim Title Shot against Josh Aldarisio in the main event of GAMMA 65. The youngster Aldarisio was outclassed and finished by strikes in the first round, and Strange now moves onto an unification bout against Watson at GAMMA 70.

8. Petey Mack (19-3, 4-1 GAMMA)

Was super impressive in ALPHA-1 with three first round wins over quality opponents, but turned down a title shot to return home with GAMMA. He started with an exciting decision win over the game Darin Blood, but couldn't earn a title shot as Neil Napier proved too much to win by decision. Since that loss in May 2001, he's beaten top quality opposition in Humphreys, Vine and then Regueiro and looks a likely contender for Napier's lightweight crown.

9. Datuk Ong Ka Ting (11-1, 2-1 GAMMA)

Big things were expected of him after four straight wins in Japan, and poor old Joe Hinchcliffe was the first to be fed to him and was finished inside three minutes. That earned him a fight against Procopio Golias who, despite being 5-0 in GAMMA, wasn't expected to win. Datuk dominated the first two rounds before being caught by a guillotine choke in a huge upset. He bounced back with a first round submission of Alberto Basora and looks right back in the hunt for Morrison.

10. Evan Pizzaro (8-0, 7-0 GAMMA)

Whilst he's fought some pretty ordinary opposition, his start in GAMMA has been immense. Lloyd McAllister, Nick Detroit, Melvin Custard and newcomer Ricardo McQueen were absolutely no match for him, but he had his first real test at GAMMA 61 against veteran David Allen. He took that by split decision, and then stunned British veteran Alex Cole with strikes inside the first ninety seconds. Recently beat veteran Yamamoto and is now likely to face Datuk for a shot at the winner of Morrison/da Guia.

This game is using the FSC mod. The mod starts in January 2000 but I simulated two years before I started GDF because I want some fighters to have records. I'm now almost two years into my game and here is my top 10 p4p as of Friday of Week 2, December 2003. If anyone is interested in playing out my game let me know and I'll send you the saved game files.

10. Armen Sarkisian 13-1 (5-0 GDF) - SHW - 66%

He's my Super Heavyweight Champion and he has a fight coming up with Renato who is a beast and if he beats him he will most likely face an undefeated Roderick Dodd. I think Sarkisian will win both fights but who knows.

9. Josh Aldarisio 8-1 (7-1 GDF) - MW - 66%

Former Middleweight champ surprisingly won the belt from Bill Brown then lost it in his next fight to Fiyero Lermontov. This has to be the toughest division in GDF right now. Since losing to Lermontov, Aldarisio knocked out Watson Viana.

8. Matthew Dean 7-0 (6-0 GDF) - MW - 70%

Matthew Dean is quickly becoming a star in the GDF having finsihed all of his fights in impressive fashion. Dean may be in line for a title shot soon.

7. William Harrison 7-0 (6-0 GDF) - LW - 71%

This guy has finshed all but one of his fights but he finished his last two fights, the most important of his career and now he is in line for a title shot.

6. Schuler Eigenberg 12-1 (6-1 GDF) - MW - 71%

Eigenberg has an upcoming bout with Fiyero Lermontov that should shoot him up or knock him off this list. His one loss is to Bill Brown by submission and get this, all of his twelve victories are by TKO or Knock Out.

5. Phillip Ziskie 11-2 (5-0 GDF) - WW - 72%

Since coming to the GDF Phillip Ziskie has really impressed me. He worked his way up and got a title shot against Flex Mattherson Jr. He beat him and then in his next fight he was forced to face one of the only two men to have ever beat him, Sean Morrison. He was a big underdog, Morrison was undefeated at the time but Ziskie pulled out a unanimous decision and retained his title. In his next defense he subbed Alan Kendall and now he has to defend his belt for the third time against a man he has never fought, Evan Pizzarro.

4. Kunimichi Kikuchi 13-1 (5-1 GDF) - HW/LHW - 75%

Since losing his first fight in GDF to Mugur Boc at Heavyweight, Kikuchi dropped down to Light Heavyweight and since then has rung up 5 straight wins, 4 of which by TKO. After beating James Foster he got his title shot again Jin Katou and became the GDF Light Heavyweight Champ. After taking out top contenders John Rivero and Terron Cabal, Kikuchi is looking for a new challenge and has decided to move up in weight to face the Heavyweight Champion, Hassan Fezzik.

3. Fiyero Lermontov 13-1 (5-1) 76%

Lermontov is a 2 time GDF Middleweight Champion and after his last fight against Bill Brown he has now beaten everyone he's fought. With one loss against Brown by unanimous decsion and one win against Brown by unanimous decsion we will most like see a third match someday in the future, hopefuly for a title.

2. Darin Blood 7-0 (7-0 GDF) - LW - 80%

Darin Blood submitted Lubos Plasil in the 5th round to win the GDF lightweight Championship and since then he has defended it against who many thought was the best lightweight on the planet, Julio Regueiro. Blood is very talented fighter but this is a very tough division with lots of fighters who deserve title shots.

1. Hassan Fezzik 14-0 (2-0 GDF) - HW - 85%

Not much of a surprise here. He has finished all of his fights, 7 subs and 7 tkos. I put him up against Herringbone in his first GDF fight, he won so I put him up against my champ, Sylvster Collins, and he wrecked him. My Heavyweight division is so weak that I need to come up with another challenger for Fezzik so I moved Kikuchi up a weight class and now I have myself the biggest main I've had yet.

What did he retire as?

He's still around, 40-3, 11-3 in GAMMA, 39 years old. He just lost last month in a heavyweight title bought with Ivanov...he also has losses to Hiro Arai and James Foster.

James Foster just retired last month with a career record of 45-10-1, he lost to Satinho in his farewell match.

Top 10 P4P Men, October 2000, Default CVerse, I'm controlling XCC;

1. Hassan Fezzik (29-0, ALPHA-1 Heavyweight Champion with 9 defenses): No real surprise here, Fezzik's on top. Only four fights since I took over, TKOs over Kikuchi (R5), Palmer Lette (R4), Steve Mason (R1), and a Sub over Sylvester Collins (R1).

2. Tadamasa Yamada (25-1, ALPHA-1 Light Heavyweight Champion with 8 defenses): Yamada's been on the same schedule as Fezzik, with four defenses of his title, all R1 Subs over Danii Skala, Roberto Aldez, Jin Katou, and Robun Yamakazi.

3. Kafu Bunya (14-0, ALPHA-1 Welterweight Champion with 0 defenses): Bunya won the title from Carlos da Guia in September, after two wins over Ikku Funaki (R2 Sub then R1 Sub), a R3 Sub over Edson Edmilson, and a UD over Yejiro Yamamoto. The win over da Guia was a UD as well.

4. Rav Kapur (11-0, GAMMA Heavyweight Champion with 0 defenses): Snatched up from BCF when his contract came up, Kapur stepped into the cage with James Foster in his debut and leveled the fomer champ! The R4 KO was one of 3 he's had, with the others coming over Garry McSweegan and Lenny McFadden. A TKO over Don Norman and a UD win over Percy Catcher combine with those impressive knock outs to put Kapur above all but the A-1 champs.

5. Sean Morrison (31-3, GAMMA Lightweight Champion with 10 defenses): Morrison might have the most impressive victories of anyone in the Top 10, along with his long reign as GAMMA Lightweight Champ. Four TKOs (Aaron McBroom twice, Bud Brockett, and Kenny Magilton) and a UD over Joel Adams have kept the belt around his waist.

6. Josh Aldarisio (7-0, GAMMA): The most active fighter in the Top 10, Aldarisio simply hasn't been granted a shot at Darin Blood, who found himself outside the Top 10 rankings despite beating Julio Reguiero for the GAMMA Welterweight Title. Five subs (Cahill, Vine, Zachary Gilbert, David Allen, and Hinchcliffe) led up to a UD over Charles Stiles, and the MMA world wonders when he'll get his shot.

7. Buddy Garner (18-0, GAMMA): Much like Aldarisio, Buddy Garner's fought and beaten most of the high level competition in his Middleweight class, but has yet to get a title fight against the man who was the champion up until September, JJ Reid. With Reid leaving (see below), Garner is likely to fight for the belt. If not, one has to question how GAMMA matchmakers overlook wins over Mac Fuller, Joaquim Fontes, Ashley Ballard, Stuart Strange, and Maarten De Vries, all by submission, and all in the first round!

8. JJ Reid (29-2, XCC, Former GAMMA Middleweight Champion with 0 defenses): Reid, unhappy with both not being on pay per view (his last two fights, including his R5 Sub of Matthew Dean to win the GAMMA Middleweight Title, were on GAMMA's Modern Warriors TV program), and simply not fighting (that fight was in October of 1999), has left GAMMA. He signed with XCC in one of the largest deals they've completed, and with Ashley Ballard, is now the centerpiece of their "Cruiserweight" (171-205 lbs) division.

9. Raul Hughes (16-2, GAMMA): The only Top 10 fighter with a loss since taking over XCC, Hughes did last until the 5th round of his title fight with James Foster before falling via Submission. Since then, he's rebounded with KOs or TKOs of Rick Stanley, Fatuma Roy, and Tim Boyer. He could be in line for a shot at Rav Kapur.

10. Gregorz Boniek (37-4, ALPHA-1): Despite "winning" 1999's Worst Fight of the Year (an Abysmal UD over Carter Potter), Boniek has still put together a solid record, beating decidedly second tier ALPHA-1 heavyweights. Chuck Dooley and Leon Banks were subbed, while Gunnar Nilsson got ground to a decision loss against Boniek. Some non-Blurcat pundits say this is just ALPHA-1 trying to influence the rankings to make him seem like a contender against Fezzik, though.

The only Men's Weight Class not represented in the Top 10 is Featherweight, despite the efforts of XCC's Phillip Ziskie (16-0), and KDM FC's Li Kong Ho (22-0).

Here is my interesting P4P list as of 2005:

#1: Domingo de Vivanco (18-1) Reigning LOCC Lightweight champion with his only loss coming to Moss Gilbert (ouch).

#2: Sean Morrison (40-4) Still tearing up the Lightweight division in GAMMA at 37 years old. Notable win over Lermontov.

#3: Zvonimir Asanovic (26-1) Undefeated since starting.

#4: Kafu Bunya (19-0)

#5: Jutaro Honma (14-0) Surprised to see him doing so well.

#6: Lamont Banner (13-0) Beat Li-Kong Ho twice by TKO.

#7: Mugur Boc (21-3) He beat Fezzik by Knock out. Enough said.

#8: Nicolai Mickiewicz (33-6) Wins over Yamada and Watson. Wow.

#9: Tim Oldacres (14-2) Former LOCC Lightweight champion, but still dangerous.

#10: Norman Pike (26-8) Beat Foster by UD. Enough said.

One thing of note here is that I'm playing LOCC with only the Lightweight and Featherweight divisions and I only hire standup fighters with a few exceptions like Banner and Sukarno (they're too good). My featherweight division has Kei Maki as the champion with Watson Viana and Carl Chenoweth former champions and still in heavy contention. Domingo looks to be dominating the Lightweight division, but Oldacres and Newton are very dangerous. Had a lot of fun playing this one and seeing a lot of faces you wouldn't normally see kicking ass.
