Secrets of the Ring Volume Three : Jillefski Takes Manhattan (NYCW 2013)

Recommended Posts

“The reason behind the TCW/Affliction thing, or rather the catalyst for it was a rumor going around at the XWA quarterly meeting about a mole working for one or more of our companies trying to steer XWA talent toward Total Championship Wrestling.”

“A lot of people thought it was true and a lot of other people thought it was nothing; a figment of Rip Chord’s imagination.”

“What a f*cking crock.”

“Rip Chord is a half senile old man whose view of the world is colored by his years of over indulgence. A mole? Really?”

“Why in the hell would TCW, or SWF for that matter, even bother trying to ‘infiltrate’ the ranks of the XWA? We were doing well, no doubt about it; us, CGC, and RIPW in particular. But to think that the Eisen’s or Cornell lost sleep over what we were doing or who we were putting over was ridiculous.”

“Now, I’m sure that there was someone with each company that was in charge of watching the whole indy circuit and who recommended who to look at for development and all that, but we were just getting onto cable. Our big pay-per-views were doing like a third of what their regular ones were, number wise.”

“Why would they care that much?”

“I’m still not sure whether Rip actually believed it or just said it out loud a few times to give the MAW and XWA some press.”

“But I know he got his guys to believe it. They went up and down anybody they felt like in that locker room from what I heard, Jay and his boys.”

“Assh*les, the lot of ‘em.

“They were having an honest-to-god witch hunt down there. Put one local guy in the hospital; some jobber. Again, that’s just hearsay. There were never any charges or anything like that.”

“But we knew that the internet wrestling fans were going crazy with the whole ‘mole’ story, so we decided to run with it.”

“……and from what I read about our stuff personally, they were eating it up.”

“The funniest thing to me was that we got nearly instant emails from Alex DeColt and Rip Chord (via Jay Fair) immediately after we ran the first angle. They both said, in very different language mind you, that the idea itself was wholly disrespectful and that we needed to halt any further plans for the storyline.”

“Rip Chord accusing me of disrespecting the business?”

“Classic.”

“That’s why we ran that recap video on our first week of TV. We were in a wait-and-see mode, at that point.”

“I know that it annoyed Phil to no end.”

“He told me as much.”

“He’s very honest…..”

Jillefski lets it hang in the air for a second, letting it sound like a complete sentence before finishing his thought.

“….about his feelings.”

“I’ll tell you this though, it was too good an idea, we weren’t going to back down and just abandon it. Not for Rip F*cking Chord or his mole or anyone.”

“I think it was funny that while that whole sh*tstorm was going on, no one said anything about us bringing in Barrowman and Finch. It was only for one show before they joined TCW, but sweet jesus, they were going from one sworn enemy camp to the other. How much more connected to the “problem” could they be?”

“Idiots.”

Show #7 Preview "One More Time"

“One More Time”

-Preview-

It has all been building up to this.....

Davis Wayne Newton vs. JD Morgan

–XWA United States Heavyweight Title Match-

Only a few days removed from being left high and dry by his friend turned Affliction member James Justice and destroyed by the one-night-only New Wave shortly afterward, Davis Wayne Newton must defend the XWA United States title in a one-on-one match against the former champion and a wrestler’s wrestler in JD Morgan. Will DWN be physically able to ward off Morgan’s legendary mat game and retain after the beating he suffered at the hands of the New Wave? And where is he mentally, after having Justice turn his back on him? Will Morgan be able steal the strap and take it with him to MAW ‘one more time’? Will The Affliction play any sort of role in the proceedings?

Jefferson Stardust vs. Teddy Powell

-Ladder Match-

Just the way it started, you knew this feud was going to have a violent ending. And after last week’s gruesome ladder attack on Teddy Powell, it only seemed fitting to have it all end in a ladder match. There will be nothing hanging from the ceiling, no cheese for the mice to chase, so to speak, only ladders; fifteen or twenty of them, positioned around the ring. There to help these men settle their differences through bloodshed.

Jorge/Leftie Wilkes vs. Cali Dragons vs. Ace Express vs. Jordan/Turner

-Loser Loses Their Roster Spot-

After the online announcement that NYCW was reinstating the Tri-State Tag Team Titles at some point in the late summer or early fall, the prevailing attitude backstage was that the company would be taking on some new athletes to flesh out the division. That is both right and wrong. First, for the existing teams, a chance to prove they belong. The Cali Dragons who thought they earned a spot last week are in the line of fire again. Will Jorge and Leftie Wilkes make the most of their second chance? Can Ernie Turner and Jackpot Jordan put everything together with their backs against the wall? Can the veteran Ace Express outwit where they used to out-wrestle or are they way past their expiration date?

East Coast Assassins vs. The McWades/???

-Grudge Match-

The East Coast Assassins and the McWades will do battle ‘one more time’ in what can only be described as a grudge match. There will be no limits imposed on this fight; the McWades are bringing in a friend to even up the sides at three apiece and I can tell by the talk backstage that many of the guys think this might end with someone getting arrested. I’d encourage the fans to bring weapons for the wrestlers to use, but I don’t think that either the ECA or the McWade posse will be coming empty handed.

Madman Boone vs. Shawn Gonzalez

–NYCW Unified Title Match-

Another one of our rematches at “One More Time” sets up in pretty basic wrestling fashion. Gonzalez unified the belts and held them for a number of months. Madman Boone came to New York, steamrolled through some competition, and took the belts off of Gonzalez in the process. Gonzalez wants them back. Boone’s name is Madman. This will not be for the faint of heart.

El Heroe Mexicano/Grue Slugg/Hugo Garrido vs. El Estrella/Luna Ligera /Luna Oscura

-OLLIE Feature Match-

The last of our announced matches features what the online fans are calling a lucha dream match with one of the best tag teams of the past teaming with one of the best prospects for the future in Slugg/Garrido and El Heroe Mexicano. Taking them on will be the most evil pairing of Los Lunas and El Estrella, one of the most notorious men on the OLLIE roster, newly famous for his fireball attack on Hugo Garrido a number of weeks ago. This match will not only carry that feud’s undercurrent, but will have the flavor of six men trying to make a name for themselves in the tough-to-crack city of New York.

A limited number of tickets are still available and can be had by contacting the Pennsylvainia Park Box Office either in person or by telephone at 555-5556 up until the day of the show. Don't miss the NYCW's biggest event yet.

Davis Wayne Newton vs. JD Morgan – XWA United States Heavyweight Title Match

I see Justice costing DWN the title

Jefferson Stardust vs. Teddy Powell – Ladder Match

only because Stardust is more interesting than bland Teddy

Jorge/Leftie Wilkes vs. Cali Dragons vs. Ace Express vs. Jordan/Turner - Loser Loses Their Roster Spot

I'm going with the Wilkes to get tossed aside

East Coast Assassins vs. The McWades/???

Madman Boone vs. Shawn Gonzalez – NYCW Unified Title Match

If I pick against Boone, he wins, so I will pick for him now so he can lose

El Heroe Mexicano/Grue Slugg/Hugo Garrido vs. El Estrella/Luna Ligera /Luna Oscura

El Heroe Mexicano is so great he can even carry his deadweight tag team to victory

Thought I'd give this a kick since "One More Time" is slated to drop on Friday morning and a few regulars have yet to weigh in.

I've got a small piece of Rip Chord's second liver to give as a prize to whoever predicts the highest perecentage of correct matches.

I will be needing a jar to send it in however; the winner must supply his own jar.

Davis Wayne Newton vs. JD Morgan – XWA United States Heavyweight Title Match

I'll go against the grain here and say that DWN makes a succesful defence but will still be going out on a stretcher at the hands of the Affliction

Jefferson Stardust vs. Teddy Powell – Ladder Match

Stardust seems to be getting the stronger push, Powell needs a new persona to get rid of the bland.

Jorge/Leftie Wilkes vs. Cali Dragons vs. Ace Express vs. Jordan/Turner - Loser Loses Their Roster Spot

Cali Dragons win, I'll go for Jordan/Turner to eat the pin here...the fans hate them (and not in a good way)...may as well cut them lose.

East Coast Assassins vs. The McWades/???

Could go either way but I'll follow the pack here

Madman Boone vs. Shawn Gonzalez – NYCW Unified Title Match

I'll go with D-Mack's reasoning on this one, as I'm not really sure Boone is the man to being carrying NYCW's top belt, so hopefully a bit of reverse psychology will see him drop the belt to a better worker, of which Gonzalez does manage to fall into that category.

El Heroe Mexicano/Grue Slugg/Hugo Garrido vs. El Estrella/Luna Ligera /Luna Oscura

El Heroe Mexicano is the best of this rag-tag bunch of Luchadores, so I'm tipping his side to get the win here.

Couldn't drop by without saying how great this diary is. I've just spent the last half hour plus reading through the first half of this diary and tomorrow I'll be reading the other half! In fact, were it not five past eleven and I didn't have an early start, I'd probably just read the whole thing now!

Love the shoot DVD/hindsight interview thing, really fits well with the story you are telling - and the switching between characters is both easy to follow and very believable.

Well done NoNeck, I'm-a-reading :D

Show #7 (NYCW July 2013 Wk 4 )

-Show Seven-

“One More Time"

(July Wk 4 Event)

The show opens as a cameraman struggles to keep pace with Phil Vibert as he briskly hustles his way in between the cars in the building’s parking lot on his way to the arena. As soon as the building itself is visible, Vibert stops in his tracks and nods approvingly. The shot goes over his shoulder and shows a line wrapped clear around the old stone slab building. There are cars in the close vicinity with their doors open, blasting tunes for all to hear and people sneaking adult indulgences all around. It has the atmosphere of a big party.

Vibert looks back at the camera and smiles, pulling a microphone out of his suit jacket pocket as he begins walking down a short grassy hill to where the action is happening. As soon as he gets within twenty feet of the parking lot in front of the building, he is spotted by a few fans sitting in lawn chars in the back of their pickup.

“Holy sh*t, it’s Phil Vibert!”

Only having been made for twenty seconds, Vibert is surrounded by excited fans as he keeps walking toward the building.

“NYCW! NYCW! NYCW! NYCW!”

He grabs one fan and pulls him close, putting the microphone in his face.

PV: “Are you excited for tonight’s show?”

Right fan. Right question.

Fan: “I went to every DAVE show from the beginning to the very end.”

He motions down to his shirt. It’s a worn out “Great White Shark” tee.

Fan: “Every single one. All through the East Coast Wars; DAVE was my hometown promotion.”

Fan: “And I can honestly say that I’ve never had more fun as a fan than I’m having right now with NYCW.”

Vibert, the mastermind behind many things including DAVE, just shrugs.

PV: “I hear that.”

With that he moves on, getting his back patted every foot he manages to move before stopping again at a particularly excited fan.

PV: “What match are you looking forward to the most?”

But the fan completely disregards him, grabbing the microphone and letting his mark flag fly.

Fan #2: “F*ck you, James Justice! I never liked you and I can’t wait for DWN to kick your ass for what you did to him. Why don’t you get your swivel hip and your adult diapers and have Brandon wheel your withered up old ass back to USPW or TCW or wherever you’re going to go with Affliction…..”

He burps.

Fan #2: “…………so yeah, suck it you sell out.”

Vibert laughs out loud and pulls the microphone back out of the fan’s hands. Instead of doing some sort of wrap up, the former owner of DAVE and ‘manager of champions’ just raises his eyebrow and, amused, looks into the camera.

“One-More-Time! One-More-Time! One-More-Time!”

Cue show open.

When the open finishes and the show comes back, we are in the ring where Lee Bambino is standing by. But before he can even get a word out…..

……Davis Wayne Newton’s music pulses out of the speakers and the XWA United States Champion walks out onto the top of the ramp and takes in the cheers that come from the packed house. But when he gets to the ring, the seriousness on his face is apparent.

DWN: “James Justice, you rotten son-of-a-bitch, come out here!”

The fans pop and turn to face the entrance ramp, but Justice’s music never hits; Newton stands there red-faced.

After a few seconds of waiting, it is clear Justice is not coming out.

DWN: “Somehow I knew you’d be a chicken sh*t about it Justice, so I made sure that you’d have to cross my path one way or another tonight.”

He smiles for the first time, but it’s not his normal babyface snapshot grin, it’s a lot more devilish in nature. And it suits him.

DWN: “I had you put into the main event tonight, James. Do you hear me back there? The main event is now a triangle match; me, you, and the Boogie Woogie Man.”

The fans cheer again.

“Triple-Threat! Triple-Threat! Triple-Threat! Triple-Threat!”

DWN: “I guess I’m just lucky enough to be able to take out two pieces of trash in one night.”

Jefferson Stardust vs. Teddy Powell

-Ladder Match-

Result: Teddy Powell wins via pinfall @ 10:05

Danny’s Notes: As soon as Newton leaves the ring and heads back up the aisle, Jefferson Stardust’s music hits and the arena is filled to its tippy tippy top with boos; everyone hates the feather boa wearing egomaniac. After his ladder attack on Powell, everyone knows that this will end up being a violent affair, but I’ll bet no one predicted that both men would be bleeding from multiple wounds with just over five minutes gone in the match.

There is no doubt that this match has ‘show stealer’ written all over it from about that point as the spots just start coming and coming. Jefferson Stardust strikes first in using one of the many ladders as a weapon, running and ramming it into Powell’s head. The resulting beating afterward is a festival of kicks and stomps and culminates with a live in-the-flesh replay of this past week’s NYCW TV with Jefferson trapping Powell in the ladder and disgustingly crunching it down around him.

But this is a big show and Stardust knows that, heading to the floor and, after a struggle, yarning a ridiculously long ladder from underneath the ring.

LB: “That has got to be, at least, a twenty-five footer.”

And upon finally getting the magnificent giant into the ring, Stardust begins setting it up over the car wreck-like pile of twisted metal that is Powell’s carcass. The aforementioned barely budges as Stardust begins climbing…….

….and climbing….

….and climbing….

LB: “He’s at the very top of that thing! I can’t believe it!!”

PV: “Look at it sway! One false move and he’s a dead man!”

When Jefferson finally gets to the top, it is precarious to say the least. The fact that he is even willing to stand up there as it shifts from side to side is saying something. But its movement is so uneven that he can’t quite get set, and it takes a few seconds every different time he tries to readjust.

It is too much time.

Teddy Powell gets to his feet and gets beside the ladder, leaning into it for all he is worth. Stardust, still unable to really get his footing, grabs on with his hands for a second before realizing the ladder is coming down. He rides it as far as he can before he is dropped, crotch first, onto the top ring rope.

Everyone “ooooh’s” and squirms in their seats as the same time as Stardust cries out in obvious pain, but it is about to get worse. Powell pulls a chair from the floor and sets it up in the middle of the ring, lifting Jefferson off of the cable and planting him, crotch first yet again, on the open steel chair’s back with the most atomic of atomic drops.

Stardust doesn’t have to sit there for too long as Powell violently twists around and explodes, connecting with a “Motion Sensor” that blows Jefferson clean off of the chair and onto the mat. A hook of the leg and three seconds later, this match is in the books. As Powell gets his hand raised by Ryan Holland, Vibert and Bambino tie everything up in a nice, neat package.

LB: “Powell proves his point, the ego of Stardust gets knocked down a level; all in all a pretty concise end to this thing between them, I’d suppose.

PV: “You think this over? They might not fight each other on TV next week or the week after that, but a personal conflict like this isn’t something that just goes away. It sticks with you for a long, long time.”

Grade: C-

The camera feed cuts to the interview area backstage where James Brandon and James Justice stand by, looking back over the camera.

JB: “Is it on, baby? Point it at us.”

Dawn Davis can be heard, answering him from behind the camera, running the show.

JB: “Talk to ‘em LB; tell ‘em what you told me.”

James Justice squares up on the camera. He is sneering a bit, wearing reflective sunglasses and a new black and white Affliction headband.

JJ: “I don’t owe anyone an explanation about anything. I’m a goddamned superstar and I do what I want. NYCW is too small time for me; I knew that when I signed on, but I was down on myself. I’d forgotten.”

He takes off the sunglasses and peers straight into the camera.

JJ: “But when Mr. Brandon and I talked about my going to TCW and joining The Affliction, I remembered who I was again.”

JJ: “Liberty. That’s who. James Justice was just a guy collecting a check. James Justice was a guy who cared about getting the next generation ready. Liberty cares about Liberty. Liberty is a superstar known the world over. Liberty makes the big bucks and wrestles in front of crowds five times as big as this one.”

Boos.

L: “And Davey……I could’ve just left……..”

Warm.

L: “…..but I couldn’t resist the urge to teach you a lesson…”

Warmer.

L: “….you snot nosed little punk.”

Disco.

L: “Putting me in that match tonight is going to prove to be the stupidest thing you’ve ever done. I’m going to kick your ass all over the building and win your United States title. And then, I’m going to put it in my bag and get on The Affliction’s private jet in Philly and fly all night, out to Hollywood, and place it on Tommy Cornell’s desk myself.”

Brandon nods, smiling.

L: “That’s what I’m going to do.”

El Heroe Mexicano/Grue Slugg/Hugo Garrido vs. El Estrella/Luna Ligera /Luna Oscura

-Lucha Libre Rules-

Result: El Heroe Mexicano/Grue Slugg/Hugo Garrido win via pinfall @ 11:12

Danny’s Notes: This is as hotly an anticipated bout as any that we’ve never done any build-up for other than online; the fans were pushing each other out of the way trying to get pictures with Slugg and Garrido, two longtime internet favorites making only their third appearance on US soil.

Things are fast with many a quick transition between Estrella and the Luna’s controlling the run of play throughout the first minutes against a game El Heroe Mexicano. But when Mexicano finally dives into his corner and out of the ring, it brings one of his famous tag partners into the ring.

And predictably the crowd leaps to its feet when Hugo Garrido hits the ring, fists balled up, looking to mix it up. He doesn’t disappoint a soul, breaking out all of his classic stuff in quick succession and even drops his famous pratfall faceplant shtick pretty quickly upon getting into the mix. Within a couple of minutes, he has run each one of his three opponents out of the ring and to the floor, where they gather and try to regroup.

LB: “His cardiovascular conditioning has got to be off the charts. He doesn’t even look like he’s broken a sweat yet.”

All of a sudden, as Estrella, Oscura, and Ligera try to put their heads together on the floor, Grue Slugg come flying across the ring and dives over the top rope, wiping out all three of the rudos.

When they climb up into the ring, El Heroe tags back in and makes the highlight reel himself by reversing a double passing tilt-a-whirl suplex attempt into a swinging inverted DDT/stunner combo that lays out both Ligera and Oscura. But El Estrella makes his way into the mix and, after a pair of ranas to Mexicano-the second of which sends the masked favorite to the floor, Estrella asks the fans in the front row to move back and step aside. He dumps Mexicano over the guardrail before climbing back into the ring and starts the fans clapping. Then, he bounces off the far side cables and………..slams on the brakes at the last possible second, snubbing the standing fans and chuckling to himself about it.

Everybody cheers though when he turns around and walks into a monster kick from Garrido that leaves him glassy eyed and looking into the rafters.

With that, the ring fills with wrestlers, a wild six-man melee ensues, and the finish descends.

El Heroe ranas El Estella over the top rope to the floor and pulls Oscura over with them when he tries to get involved, leaving Garrido and Slugg alone in the ring with Ligera. And in a flash, they are on him, double front suplexing him and then whipping him into the turnbuckles which he hits in head-over-heels fashion.

They wrap his legs around the turnbuckles and leave him hanging upside down in the corner, prone. Each runs to a different position in the ring saluting the fans with a quick wave, and sprints in seconds later double dropkicking him in the face and leaving him in a heap.

PV: “Another outstanding match from our Mexican cousins from OLLIE.”

LB: “And a first for many of our fans here in NYCW, seeing Hugo Garrido and Grue Slugg live and in person. What a night so far.”

A package rolls. It is a black screen. All you can hear is the sound of someone running. Shoe soles slapping wet pavement, labored wheezing.

Suddenly it stops. Just the breathing remains. A siren wails, far in the distance.

“Oh sh*t, it’s Omar!”

The running begins again, this time even more feverish; scared.

Then, a voice.

“You better be runnin’.”

Click-clack. One in the chamber.

“Omar comin’!”

Jorge/Leftie Wilkes vs. Cali Dragons vs. Ace Express vs. Jordan/Turner

-Loser Loses Their Roster Spot-

Result: Cali Dragons win via pinfall @ 6:39

Danny’s Notes: Not nearly the dragger we thought it might end up being, in fact it goes well for the most part. The only topic of discussion though can be the response to Jordan and Turner. As soon as Jackpot Jordan is tagged in, a replay of the scene from two weeks ago’s TV unfolds again, on a much larger scale.

Say, two thirds of the crowd.

Arms crossed.

Backs to the ring.

This time, many of them have newspapers that they open and mockingly read every single time either Jordan or Turner makes an appearance in the ring.

They do really like The Cali Dragons though, and they let them know it. Perez is just so stiff; every single shot he lands seems to pop. Johnny Martin eats a spinning backfist before Perez tags in his partner James and the martial arts expert dresses down both Martin and the interfering Sanders with a barrage of lightening fast kicks.

In the end, Jorge Wilkes catches Ernie Turner with a double underhook driver and plants him facefirst into the canvas. Jackpot Jordan is much too slow through the ropes to break it up and the three count goes into the books.

Many of the fans who stood with their backs to the ring rise again to do the same as Jordan and Turner go through the typical ‘did-we-just-lose’ heel routine. Essentially, after the Ace Express, Wilkes Brothers, and Cali Dragons walk back up the aisle, Ernie Turner and Jackpot Jordan are mocked, heckled, and laughed out of NYCW, losing their spot on the company’s roster.

East Coast Assassins vs. The McWades/Freddie Datsun

Result: The McWades/Freddie Datsun win via pinfall @ 5:45

Danny’s Notes: The fans really enjoyed this because it is so fast moving and violent. I enjoyed it because it marks the end of the feud between the East Coast Assassins and the McWades.

Freddie Datsun’s introduction as the McWade’s surprise partner draws a pretty good pop, but it is the loudest response this match gets…..

….until they start pulling tables from underneath the ring, that is.

Sayeed Ali starts it, yanking a table halfway open and propping it up on the guardrail before Shady K and Roach try to double team Dean McWade and put him through it. But Freddy Datsun saves him at the last second and then springs, tackling Roach through the table, splitting it into two or three big pieces.

From that point on the ECA is behind the eight ball, constantly one man behind, trying to keep up Ali and Shady K versus both McWades and Freddie Datsun.

The finish comes few minutes later. After tossing the bulky Shady K over the top rope and through a table set up on the floor, both Dean and Dallas begin tossing chairs in to Datsun from the ringside area.

Datsun takes his time in stacking up three of the chairs together in the center of the ring, making a structure that looks like an ironing board. After it’s finally set up, Dean and Dallas whip Sayeed Ali into the ropes and catch him on his way back, lifting him high and then spiking him face first through the chairstack.

“Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t!”

Dallas McWade rolls him over and covers him for the win. The brothers embrace, Dean bleeding from a small wound on his forehead. Datsun gives them both high fives before jumping out of the ring.

LB: “That was pretty decisive. They stopped all three members of the ECA.”

PV: “And who knows what the future holds for the McWades. Where do they go from here?”

A package rolls that refreshes everyone on the feud between Shawn Gonzalez and Madman Boone which started when Boone cost Gonzalez a chance at the XWA US Title and went to a new level when the Madman won the “Lone Wolf’s” NYCW Unified Titles two weeks later. It ends with a shot of Boone bleeding from a wound on his head, smiling and acting less than indifferent about the blood pouring down his face.

Madman Boone vs. Shawn Gonzalez

-NYCW Unified Title Match-

Result: Madman Boone wins via pinfall @ 8:58

Danny’s Notes: The rematch exceeds the original even though it has the same result and the fans seem to appreciate it a bit more knowing that Gonzalez’s time in NYCW will soon come to an end.

Gonzalez comes out from the back wielding a silver snow shovel…… swinging for all he’s worth in the direction of the just introduced Madman but, as he has done a couple of times before (much to the delight of the hardcore Tri-State faithful), when the “Lone Wolf” swings, Boone just sticks his chin out, leaning into the shots.

LB: “He really is a madman, isn’t he? It’s not just a clever gimmick.”

Boone smiles as a small trickle of blood begins making its way down his nose; he could care less about the shovel bashing he is taking. But when he rears back to throw a punch at Gonzalez, the former Unified champion swings again, this time waffling Madman in the side of the head with the flat side of the shovel and making his knees wobble in the process.

But when Gonzalez steps in beside the dazed Madman and puts the handle of the shovel underneath Boone’s chin, looking to guillotine him with a front russian leg sweep, he is met with a pair of elbows that nail him right between the eyes.

For a couple of seconds, both cobwebbed men battle over the shovel before Boone scores with a big left hand that sees the “Lone Wolf” momentarily lose his grip on the handle.

Boone doesn’t even want it, casting it under the bottom rope well away from Gonzalez while producing a singapore cane nearly simultaneously. And even though Gonzalez tries to back away, he gets belted with three or four clean shots before crumpling to the mat and taking a further beating of nine or ten more from the wild-eyed Madman.

There is no finishing move; Madman rolls Gonzalez onto his back and lazily covers him for the three count, retaining the NYCW Unified Title.

LB: “Chalk up another one for the Madman, this one a big one as he sends back the challenge of the former champion…….”

Someone slides into the ring.

LB: “Wait a minute…..”

It’s Doug Peak……and he’s come to the party armed, wielding a barbed wire baseball bat.

But somehow Boone senses Peak’s presence beside him and turns, drilling him with his cane well before Peak is able to get him with the bat. And with Peak rolling around on the mat and the barbed wire bat being dropped at his feet, Madman finally finds something he likes more than his trusty singapore cane, exchanging it for the far more dangerous bat and standing over Peak.

LB: “Oh no. This is not going to be good. I can’t watch.”

He stands him up and buries the handle of it in Peaks’ belly, doubling him over instantly before shoving him down face first into the mat. Then, with an evil smile and blood still dripping off of his own nose, Boone pulls Peak’s head back and grates on it with the bat, the barbed wire tearing into his forehead. Disgustingly, Boone locks in what looks to be like a camel clutch, using the barbed wire bat against Peak’s face and head to hold the thing together.

Finally, it stops, with Boone dropping the bat and the nearly passed out Peak at the same time leaving him to be dealt with by the paramedics that rush by him as he makes his way back up the aisle.

Davis Wayne Newton vs. Liberty vs. JD Morgan

-XWA United States Title Match-

Result: Davis Wayne Newton wins via pinfall @ 16:59

Danny’s Notes: Davis Wayne Newton serves notice, dispatching two world traveled veterans en route to retaining his XWA United States Title. But the road to victory is not without its bumps.

Justice comes out accompanied by James Brandon and Dawn Davis completely duded out in Affliction garb. He is met by even more hatred than you’d expect from the Manhattan crowd, combining both his turn on DWN on last week’s NYCW TV with his joining the most notorious stable in all of wrestling; it’s the perfect storm of heat, if you will.

In fact, they hate on him so much, JD Morgan nearly flies under the radar. As he walks up the ring steps, a lone roll of toilet paper comes cruising out of the cheap seats and hits him in the back, driving him into a very un-Boogie Woogie Man-like fit that culminates with his cussing out a pair of aggressive ringside fans.

Newton hits the ring like a ball of fire and tears off his reflective ring jacket on his way down the aisle, dropping the US strap a few feet later. Somewhere between there and the ring apron, the bell rings and he lays multiple punches and front kicks onto both Justice and Morgan.

From there, things progress like you might expect, with Newton hopping onto Liberty at any opportunity while simultaneously trying to fend off Morgan. Eventually, Morgan and Liberty begin awkwardly working together, gaining the upper hand on DWN. But it was obviously never meant to last given their recent history with each other; Liberty sucker punches the “Boogie-Woogie Man” in the side of the face (again), knocking him senseless and through the ropes to the floor after a particularly lengthy double team of Newton. He would not be a factor again.

The fans are wild, anticipating the one-on-one face off between Liberty and Davis Wayne Newton, and when it finally happens, the building hits a level it had yet to hit.

DWN lays it on pretty heavily, running Liberty from pillar to post all over the ring, the veteran bumping his ass off in the process. But his experience and newfound mean streak come together in the form of a dirty knee to the champ’s groin, one that stops all of his momentum and draws a muted groan from those in attendance.

James Brandon pumps his fist and whoops it up as Liberty puts Newton through the ringer, getting in all of his spots. And when he heads to the top rope and comes crashing down with his trademark Outlaw II flying legdrop, Brandon can barely contain his excitement, flipping open a cell phone and dialing madly.

LB: “I’ll bet that’s Tommy Cornell on the line and that Brandon’s calling to gloat. The Affliction is only seconds away from winning the XWA United States title.”

PV: “And remember what Liberty said he’d do. He’s going to bring that belt to TCW.”

Remember when I said that JD Morgan would not be a factor again? I was lying. The mat technician and old school-to-the-bone “Boogie Woogie Man” sits crouched on the other side of the ring, out of the sightline of Liberty and well away from the now preoccupied Brandon. And when Liberty pulls back and backhands Newton, stepping back to get in position for the “Liberation Slam”, Morgan has his chance, casting off an unbelievably stiff right hand that catches Liberty in the temple, staggering him….

…..one step…..

….steady….

….two steps…..

….right into DWN who instinctively rolls him up with a flash small package, getting the shocking three count.

LB: “Just as Liberty appeared on the verge of victory……”

With the bell still ringing and nearly as soon as referee Ryan Holland hands Newton the XWA US Title belt and reaches to raise his arm…….

…….James Brandon slides under the bottom rope and builds a monster head of steam.

LB: “POUNCE!!!!”

DWN flies ass-over-teakettle across the ring, dropping the belt and coming to a stop facedown with one of his feet draped on the bottom rope. After the intensity of the match and the blindside nature of the shot from Brandon, Newton’s tank is at empty. And before he can even try to get to his feet, he is lifted up again by Brandon and shoved in the direction of the now recovered Liberty. With a certain viciousness, Liberty scoops him up and spikes him down with a “Liberation Slam”, smiling and standing over Newton as Brandon high fives him and motions to the back.

Dawn Davis comes hustling through the curtain and down the aisle, moving much faster than her oh-so-high heels should allow. When she gets to the ring, she waits as Brandon shakes the ring in obliterating Newton with a second “Pounce” before lofting something shiny into high into the air toward him. Brandon cradles it into his chest and then holds them up before tossing them to Liberty.

LB: “Handcuffs! Dawn threw him some handcuffs!”

PV: “And that’s bad news for Newton!”

……he handcuffs him to the ropes, and the people are nearing a riot like frenzy as Liberty begins doling out a prison style beating, one sided and decisive, punishing Newton until he can no longer weather the storm. Finally, he falls, dangling awkwardly by his wrist and bleeding terribly, having taken two dozen or more punches.

Brandon stands by laughing and pointing at the mess that DWN has become as Dawn stands beside him, checking her make-up in a small hand mirror, seemingly oblivious to the beating going on a few feet from her.

Abruptly, the feed stops and the NYCW logo flashes onto the screen.

Thanks JHD1, I really appreciate the kind words, especially of late as I wonder who is actually reading. I haven't ever paid attention to the view count, but predictions have been down recently. We'll see how it goes; I've got plenty of story left, especially considering it's all about to take a dramatic turn, I just hope people are getting out of it what I put into it.

Also JHD, I forgot to credit you (and jtlant) for the badass alts that have been popping up here. I can't thank you and the other artists enough for what you add to things. :)

(If anyone missed it, "One More Time" has been posted above.)

“‘One More Time’ was another sell out for NYCW. A turn-away crowd, that night.”

He shakes his head before sighing proudly, almost relieved.

“Wow, huh? We were doing it.”

“We had the Liberty and Newton story tangled in with our other super hot storyline, The Affliction thing, which was a quality move that could only help accelerate Davis Wayne Newton’s progress further as a national name.”

He nods.

“He had everything going for him at that point; it was just a matter of getting more and more people to see it. That was the key.”

Campbell pauses and changes the focus from DWN.

“Add that to Teddy Powell and Jefferson Stardust, who made each other in about two months, and I think you’d have to agree that NYCW was really in a good place after “OMT’”.

“But there wasn’t going to be any time to rest on any laurels or anything like that, August was bringing a brand new challenge; a new, higher hurdle for us.”

“We had started doing it initially when the XWA began, but August 2013 was going to be the first time NYCW was in charge of the alliance’s monthly pay-per-view offering. They just hadn’t come up on the schedule yet.”

“We tried to get each promotion’s marquee events as the XWA ones. They already had at least a little bit of brand recognition in their region.”

“Empire State Show-down.”

He separates the two words, drawing them out before taking a haul off of his huge, gas station soda.

“It was a pretty big show as far as theirs go; one if their biggies from the pre-XWA days. They’d built up to a few of their matches on the card since the company’s reboot.”

“It was going to be a big deal, there’s no mistaking that.”

“Because, a good show would keep them in good standing with the XWA’s power players……..”

“……and a bad show put them on the watch list.”

“We only have ten of them per year, pay-per-views I mean, and they are our biggest money makers, both for the promotions themselves, the investors in the promotion, and the XWA in general, through a revenue sharing system.”

“Having it be their first pay-per-view raised the stakes to unconscionable levels for them, too.”

“I mean, you know the egos they had up there. How could it not get out of control backstage?”

“Jillefski, Campbell, and Vibert?”

“Sh*t, in a business filled with egos, those were three of the biggest right there if not THE three biggest.”

“I bet they were losing their minds trying to figure out a way to blow ours.”

“Pay-per-view was a big step. But I had no doubt in my mind that we were not only going to pull it off, but that we were going to raise the bar for the other XWA affiliates and say, you know, that’s how you do it.”

“We were going to serve notice to the whole wrestling world that the way the NYCW was doing things, the way WE were doing things, was the way professional wrestling was going.”

“Not SWF, not TCW, or even CGC…….no matter how much Alex would like you to believe otherwise.”

“I know that they were very proud of themselves for the way things were going for NYCW, as they should’ve been.”

His face turns smug.

“But in no way could anyone say that they were threatening the flagship status of Canadian Golden Combat among the companies under the XWA’s umbrella.”

“Our average TV rating was nearly double their best one.”

“Nearly double.”

“Think about that.”

“They’d been doing it for seven months. CGC has a history dating back to when?”

He leans forward, feigning straining to listen before rolling his eyes and leaning back into his chair.

“I rest my case.”

“NYCW was doing the best of all the XWA promotions, I would say.”

“Certainly, CGC was still doing better TV numbers than we were. But their carrier was bigger, too.”

“They already had TV; they didn’t need Stallings’ cable deal to get them on the air somewhere.”

“In any case, they were doing about the same numbers as before the XWA. We were making money hand over fist; business that would’ve made The Stomper’s heart stop, restart, and stop again.”

“They were maintaining. We, on the other hand, were growing.”

“Growing like crazy.”

(Going to do a 'catch-you-up' for the other promotions of the XWA before carrying on.:) )

MAW Update Spring/MidSummer

-MAW Spring/Mid Summer Report-

“Business was good the first few months. We were doing great numbers at the door and selling quite a few more DVD’s than we did before the XWA.”

“But our big ‘to-do’ was that mole story, wasn’t it?”

He shifts uncomfortably in his seat.

“What a horrible time to be backstage.”

“Jay and Casey shook everyone down that they didn’t trust.”

“And they beat the crap out of that guy Keith Vegas, although everything that I’m saying is stuff I heard second hand from Jared Johnson…..”

The shot switches; it’s Jared Johnson the lone witness to the Vegas incident.

“Jay was souped up about the whole mole thing. Maybe a little too much.”

“Cameron could get him worked up, but Casey Valentine knew every single button to push.”

“I’m pretty sure that Casey had a beef with Vegas and that’s why they jumped him, but I don’t have any proof of that. Just my gut.”

“Anyway, they followed him out to his car after the show he worked in Raleigh. He was on his cell phone.”

“Casey didn’t say anything. He just spun him around. And Jay drilled him with the end of a shoot baseball bat. Right in the forehead.”

“He went right down, but they just stood in a circle and really put the boots to him.”

“I yelled at them a couple of times before Jay Fair and Donnie J came out and kind of broke things up.”

“But by then they had f*cked him up pretty bad, dude.”

“I heard that he has some sort of speech impediment now.”

“I haven’t seen him since. He doesn’t work anymore.”

“The Rip Chord Invitational happened during that period too, which is usually one of the most exciting times of the year for us.”

“Not so much in 2013.”

“I mean, I think everyone had the inkling that it would be Jay, right from the start.”

He pauses as a recap vid of the tournament plays, culminating with a slow-mo of Jay Chord DDT-ing Insanity and covering him for the win in the finals.

“We had Insanity in; down from Rhode Island.”

“I asked Flash to send us a worker He sent me a goddamned……”

He stops and exhales, looking like he doesn’t know exactly how to phrase what he is trying to say. The opposite is true. He knows the perfect way to say it.

“…..in RIPW they just put sh*t into the match to put sh*t into the match. It was performing not working, to draw a line; in the Carolinas…”

“….we work.”

“And I knew what our fans would buy and what they wouldn’t buy, match wise. We had built Jay up to such a level that even a guy that we made look as dangerous we made Insanity appear……”

“There was no way he could win.”

“But a lot of the chatter at the XWA quarterly meeting…….”

“A lot of different people were putting pressure on me to have ‘their guy’ win the RPI; they all said it would be good for business.”

“Over that few nights, at that hotel….”

“They tried all sorts of things.”

“But I had the best interests of the MAW to think about first and foremost, right?”

“If we couldn’t lead the XWA as its flagship promotion, then I think the whole project would’ve been dead in the water.”

“I know that’s what Rip thought.”

“It’s what Jay thought, too.”

“So that’s who we went with.”

“And always……always build around the family.”

“My brothers and I may not have always seen eye to eye, but up until that point, we had always worked together for CGC.”

“Up until that point….”

“It shocked Alex more that it shocked me, honestly.”

“I figured that, at some point, either Jack or Steve would finally hear a number from Peter Michaels that they couldn’t say no to.”

“In this case, it was Steve, and it was a number that we couldn’t match without really limiting ourselves in the future.”

“Alex said that he wasn’t changing the rules for anyone, including his brother.”

“Who rules?”

He coughs into his arm and then clears his throat.

“I’m sorry, I meant whose rules?”

“Dad always paid us market value. And at that time, my market value was pretty high.”

“They didn’t need to pay me SWF money. But I was in line for a sizeable raise. And Alex didn’t think so.”

He grits his teeth a little bit and pounds the desk with his fist.

“He had turned into a real assh*le by that point, and I was glad he wouldn’t make me an offer. It made it all so much easier on me.”

“So we had a match -on TV- for the World XWA Heavyweight Championship. That was my first going away present.”

“Like everyone else, I lost.”

“I was really curious, as I imagine a lot of the boys were, who Alex was going to squish next. He was just blowing through everybody and getting himself over as much as possible.”

“You can quote me on that.”

“Sure, I was staying pretty strong as the XWA World Heavyweight Champion, but I hadn’t really ventured outside Canada, save for a defense I made in Puerto Rico against PRP. At that point I was really looking to do something with one of the other promotions.”

“My program with Trent Shaffer had just about run its course back in CGC and I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to bring Primus Allen up to that level yet…”

“…although he was the next logical choice.”

“As far as the members of ELITE, he was getting over with the rest of them, but he still lagged pretty far behind in terms of skills. He looked the part, but he couldn’t work the part, know what I mean?”

“No disrespect.”

“And I don’t think that it would have done much for me, either, as far as where I was versus where we has.”

“One thing that we were considering; we had been keeping Jack right near the main event and there had been talk of a turn to make him my next opponent.”

“Jack as a heel just didn’t work. They’d done it before and the fans just don’t buy it.”

“It’s not the same as Ricky, who they also don’t buy as a heel. With Rick it’s because he’s dumb as a shovel and he can’t be mean and nasty, whether he’s pretending or otherwise.”

“But with Jack, it’s just…..almost like he doesn’t care enough.”

“I think he had been programmed by his father to be a babyface for so long, that he couldn’t get behind being jeered. Like he couldn’t quite put his back into it.”

“I had another idea though.”

He points at his temple; he wants you to know it was his idea and his idea alone.

“We put the Jack thing on the back burner and started working the phones.”

“The XWA World Heavyweight Champion was going to hit the road.”

-RIPW Spring/Mid Summer Report-

“Not much to report from our corner of the country.”

“We had our seventh weekend in a row of sellout shows, which was something we were proud of.”

“Boston and Hartford were the last two.”

“I headlined against Insanity, as I remember it. Good matches. Draws, both of them.”

“The fans didn’t care about the two draws; it was the exact opposite. They loved it. They wanted to see wrestling.”

“And that’s why the word getting around among the boys in all the locker rooms around the country was that Rhode Island Pro Wrestling was the place to go if you wanted to ply your trade, your craft, at the highest possible level.”

“We were pretty good at mixing it up for everyone, putting brawlers with mat workers and mat workers with spot guys, giving them all a chance to do what they do best while giving them the opportunity to work a match too, instead of just having an exhibition.”

“Plenty of guys were taking advantage.”

“Randy Bumfhole, El Leon, Machine; all of them looking to use RIPW to dispel some myth, some untruth about themselves.”

“And in the process, they put on some of the best wrestling matches of that time period.”

“In fact, at the time, that Hartford show was arguably our best show ever.”

“Randy and El Leon nearly tore the house down.”

“And Trent and I went out and made sure that the main event was indeed the main….event.”

“And it was.”

“But that wasn’t good enough to have Trent go over when he went down to Charlotte to wrestle in the “Rip Chord Invitational” was it; a couple of draws against me?”

“Jay is a solid pro; don’t misquote me. He-can-wrestle.”

“But Trent makes him look like he’s going half speed.”

Flash snorts.

“But that was fine with me in the long run because it kept Trent wanting to work with me, because I treated him right. He didn’t have much of a beef with Alex at that point, although he would get the clue soon enough that the DeColts have a glass ceiling for non-family members.”

“But I’d bet that’s where his thing with the Chord clan first started.”

He shakes his head while scratching his forehead.

“I’d never thought of that.”

(FCW is the next and final update, I'll put it up tomorrow with Show #8 due afterward. :))

FCW Update Spring/MidSummer

-FCW Spring/Mid Summer Update-

“That three or four month run of shows really set the company on its way toward what it was going to be in then future.”

“One of the first things we did was take ‘Da Power off the monthly shows we were running. He had his last match in April. I wrestled him and won the Heritage title the same night that my faction, Lobos de Noche, won the XWA Trios Title.”

“Booking wise, it was a total turning point for the promotion. Power had run his course and needed some time away from things to reinvigorate interest in his character. I also personally believed that he needed time to rest his body, a suggestion he flatly denied.”

“I mean, he was how old? He’d taken how many bumps for how many years? It was time. Just for a bit.”

“Besides, between Lobos and a few other guys who’d gotten over, having ‘Da Power out of the way cleared up a bit of a logjam in our upper card and left it as fresh as it had been since FCW began.”

“I was hoping that we could get onto the USA Cable deal that everyone else got, but they had just launched their Puerto Rico network and ‘Da Power was hesitant. He thought that they might fold it after a couple of unsuccessful months and leave FCW overextended.”

“I think the fans were really starting to get the hang of our new product. Our attendance had never been better, which really had me itching to move to a bigger venue, another move that was blocked from above.”

“I can understand it, in retrospect. But business is about taking chances, isn’t it?”

“I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but FCW didn’t seem to be doing a whole lot, you know?”

“I’m still surprised about what happened to be honest.”

“Everyone was talking about this mole thing over here or whatever and they……”

“….well…….”

“….you know.”

(That's the last of the other promotion's updates. Show #8 Preview will be popping up soon, followed by the show itself. :) )

-NYCW TV Preview-

Show Eight

Madman Boone vs. Doug Peak

For weeks now, Madman Boone has been beating Doug Peak to within an inch of his life. Yet after every bloodbath, Peak comes back looking for more. This week, he’ll step into the ring with a chance to win the NYCW Unified Title in addition to settling up the ass-beating tab with Boone. Can Madman dispatch him again? Can Peak settle the score? There will be blood, but the question is how much and who’ll lose it.

.

El Heroe Mexicano vs. Erik Strong

OLLIE’s number one import into New York so far has undoubtedly been the ridiculously talented El Heroe Mexicano. Until now, El Heroe has competed in matches up here against opponents he has competed against already in Mexico. This week on NYCW TV, El Heroe steps into the ring with a man he’s never faced, NYCW newcomer Erik Strong. Will his run of good luck continue, or will his unfamiliarity with Strong prove to be his undoing?

Cali Dragons vs. The Wilkes Brothers

By executive order, The Wilkes Brothers will get one more opportunity to earn themselves a spot on the NYCW roster, squaring off against the newest tag team under contract, the team that beat them last week, Frankie Perez and Mikey James, The Cali Dragons. Can The Dragons sweep the Wilkes Brothers out of the Tri-State area for good, or is their rivalry beginning to capture the minds of the east coast wrestling community to join the hordes out west that already count themselves as followers.

Teddy Powell vs. Steven Parker

-NYCW vs. RIPW Challenge Match-

To whet your appetite for “Empire State Showdown”, an XWA inter-promotional match that is sure to leave the mat scorched. Teddy Powell, fresh from his hard fought ladder match victory over Jefferson Stardust at “One More Time”, will square off against one of Rhode Island Pro Wrestling’s best, “The Future” Steven Parker. You can’t underestimate the turf ramifications here; Parker will be invading and Powell will be defending NYCW’s house against the attack from the north.

All of this plus....

......An appearance by Jefferson Stardust...

......A farewell to New York from the departing former Unified Champion Shawn Gonzalez......

..... And an undoubted response for the handcuff beating that The Affliction laid on him by XWA United States Champion, "The Triple Threat", Davis Wayne Newton. Whatever form it takes, it'll be live from our cameras to your living room.

Don't miss this week's NYCW TV or the terrorists will have won.

Madman Boone vs. Doug Peak

Boone has beaten back far worthier challenges, and barring a miracle appearance by Eddie, Boone wins this one.

El Heroe Mexicano vs. Erik Strong

Strong peaks in MAW, while the sky is the limit for El Heroe Mexicano

Cali Dragons vs. The Wilkes Brothers

The vast difference in talent levels here staggers the imagination.

Teddy Powell vs. Steven Parker

Powell wasn't better than Parker back in PSW, I can't imagine him being better now.

Madman Boone vs. Doug Peak

Boone is well, a f'n madman.

El Heroe Mexicano vs. Erik Strong

The Hero takes the win because he's better talented.

Cali Dragons vs. The Wilkes Brothers

Hello sir , how may I stiff you today?

Teddy Powell vs. Steven Parker

Steven is the future , Teddy is the past.

Madman Boone vs. Doug Peak

I'll be at the concession stand, but then again Boone and Peak's yawnsome 'brawling' will probably interrupt my purchasing activities as rather predictably the ring won't be able to contain them as neither really understand the rules of wrestling. May as well keep the belt on Boone but I couldn't care either way :p

El Heroe Mexicano vs. Erik Strong

You seem determined to build Heroe into a star that can cross borders, he'll be big with the hispanic community and he has a Mask and that will get the Kids (actually the Kids Parents) to shell out on merchandise.

Cali Dragons vs. The Wilkes Brothers

There's a small nagging doubt in my mind that despite getting their asses handed to them the whole match, the Wilkes will somehow come away with a flukey victory to stay on the roster, because all rosters need their mediocre jobbers.....right ? Sorry I just can't bring myself to pick the Wilkes.

Teddy Powell vs. Steven Parker

As the NYCW are part of a larger umbrella organisation here the XWA, occasionally they will have to keep their partners sweet and besides Powell can use the excuse of him being physically and emotionally beaten up from the ladder match any way.

Madman Boone vs. Doug Peak

Still the bigger name.

El Heroe Mexicano vs. Erik Strong

There's been a distinct push for this guy.

Cali Dragons vs. The Wilkes Brothers

I just can't see you building the Dragons by giving them three victories over the same jobbers, only to dismiss the jobbers afterwards.

Teddy Powell vs. Steven Parker

Talent gap here is major in '10.

Thanks for the predictions so far everyone. I think I'll be able to keep with my Friday show release schedule, so there's still some time for regulars and newcomers alike to get involved.

Also, I wanted to make an announcement concerning the future of this diary. I've had the idea for this diary since I was still hard at work on my SWF one, and amazingly, I was able to keep the concept close to my vest without spilling the beans and blowing it too early, discussing the overriding concept with only one PM confidant. And now, everything is where it's supposed to be, set-up wise, for me to move forward with it.

In any case, I think it's a big deal. I think it's going to change this diary entirely. I just wanted you to know. Thanks for sticking it out to this point.

And be on the lookout for my next post.....

....or the one after that......
