Prediction Key:

Matthew Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Jeremy Stone

JEZZA!

The Machines vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

Not worth sacrificing their momentum and overness for Sean and Joel.

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rising Stars

The Riders are nails, and can pull off upset wins against popular guys, but oddly enough I don't think that upsetting Andrews and Minnesota would be big enough to make a difference.

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Walter Morgan

No question.

Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily vs. Shingen Miyazaki

No question.

Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

RDJ remains the top dog.

Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tyson Baine (non-title)

Just a feeling - mostly that Sam is infinitely better than Baine.

Eddie Peak & Troy Tornado vs. Tommy Cornell & Wolf Hawkins

Peak is in the ring. Peak is jobber to the stars.

Jeremy Stone vs. Matthew Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

Jeremy and Matthew turn out to have a truly astonishing level of understanding of each man's skill – understandable, given Matthew's training, perhaps, but still somewhat remarkable. The result is a hell of a match to kick off the show, as Matthew gives as good as he gets, faster, more resilient...

Jeremy Stone just has a few more tricks up his sleeve, and that's what settles it. This time, Stone beats the Keith sent up against him.

The Machines vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

The pace doesn't slow down an inch as these two teams step up and deliver. After a quarter-hour of brisk work and engaging moves, it comes down to Brent Hill and Sean Deeley; it comes down to the King of the Hill frog splash, and a quick pinfall, and Sean Deeley is pinned.

Shout at the Devil begins to play as Mayhem Midden, accompanied by Charlie Thatcher, comes to the ring, microphone in hand.

“Busy night tonight,” he begins. “You're all waiting for the big bit of business, but I'm doing this in the order it needs doing.

“First of all, this month, we're going to have a little tournament. See, we've got a whole mess of tag teams these days. Some of 'em, well, they've taken a few too many losses for me to consider them right this second – which ain't to say I don't hold out hope for them climbing up in the future.

“But it does mean I want to shake things up a bit. The School had two shots in two months, they did pretty damn well – but there's a lot of teams deserve the chance.

“Starting tonight, we're having a tournament. Four teams. The catch is, you don't get to enter if you've been a tag champion here before – so that rules out the School, it rules out Miyazaki and Ota, it rules out the Guns, and the Fly Boys.

“Couple other teams seem to have enough on their plates. The Conquering Kings have been on at me to free up some time and let 'em fight the Fly Boys after last month, and they'll get it.

“So. Four teams. Two of them are up next – the Rising Stars and the Easy Riders.

“Next slot in the tournament I'm giving to Sam Keith's kids.” A grin. “Because I know that'll piss off Tommy, and right now he deserves it.

“Final slot?” He shrugs. “Well, I'm working on that. A young man approached me last week with an idea; the lawyers are going over it now. If that doesn't work out, I'll find someone.”

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rising Stars

Short and sweet, this one. A technically inclined side who can brawl and a pair of brawlers; the Riders dictate the style in which the match is contested, and Andrews and Minnesota do their level best to match up to that.

It's an almost-pure rumble which ends as the Riders eject Minnesota from the ring, delivering the Emergency Stop on Aaron Andrews to put him down.

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Walter Morgan

Morgan's beginning to make a name for himself among the live fans – it's not a big thing, but he's becoming recognised as a potentially dangerous grappler, chiefly due to how obviously vicious many of his submission holds are.

Against Bloodstone, he still gets a good response. Azaria gets behind the two men, rapid-fire discussion of the holds ensuing, and Morgan gets a chance to look good – not much of a chance, nor for long, as it runs maybe five minutes before the Bloodstone Mutilation's applied. But it is, most likely, a good sign for the future.

Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily vs. Shingen Miyazaki

Even shorter, this match; Ino absolutely destroys Miyazaki, who seems almost despondent. There are a number of points where the announcers note that Miyazaki's been able to take advantage of gaps like the ones Ino is leaving – even talk about the moves he uses in those circumstances – but in those gaps, Miyazaki does nothing.

The Kobra's Bite puts him out of his misery swiftly.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpg

Backstage, Eddie Peak is warming up for later, doing a little work with a speedbag.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine_nachtfalter16.jpg

Then his head crashes into it fast as Tyson Baine bulls into him from behind. Eddie staggers, Baine grabs him, hoists him, and hits the Hades Bomb onto the exposed floor. He reaches up, grabs the chain the bag's hanging from, and snaps it, dropping the back onto Peak's prone floor, before stalking off.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FrankiePerez.jpg vs. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/RickyDaleJohnson.jpg

Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

Good, solid work for most of this match between two tough guys. Perez is still going for the dirty tricks, but you've got to be very, very good at being bad to catch someone who's spent as much of his career locking horns with Tommy Cornell as RDJ has.

Ricky concentrates on winning, and with Perez' heel tricks neutralised, he has real trouble.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/LobsterWarrior_PS.jpg

Chris Rockwell appears at ringside, and RDJ notices – and Perez rolls him up. Johnson kicks out, and Rockwell bides his time. Eugene Williams sees Perez stumble into him and Rockwell hops up onto the apron. A forearm drives into Ricky's back; RDJ manages, however, to sidestep Perez' charge and leave him crashing into Rockwell on the apron.

Ricky grabs the Southern Justice immediately, gets the pin, and gets out of Dodge as Rockwell slides back into the ring.

Sam Keith vs. Tyson Baine

Holy God, Tyson Baine has been on a roll lately.

Keith stalls. Oh, boy, does Keith stall. He does NOT want to lock up with the Syndicate's monster.

Baine prowls, lunges, steps back, lunges again...

Eventually, Sam ducks a swing and starts doing his best. A chop block takes Baine down to one knee, and Sam scents opportunity – which turns out to be a false scent, as Baine seizes him by the neck

What follows is pure destruction. Sam Keith is Sam Keith, and he can find a way to block things, he can find counters – but he can't stop this kind of barrage.

Baine virtually destroys him in a shade under ten minutes, finishing off with a Hades Bomb.

Breakin' The Law starts to play, and Tommy Cornell struts down to the ring, rolling into place to stand over Sam's broken body.

“I spent all last month,” he says slowly, “rehabbing my arm from what you did to it. Sunday night, I couldn't break that hold because you had nearly crippled my arm.

“This month, Sam, we teach you how that feels... week in, week out...”

He grins. “And then, come Crunch Time, I'm going to lock myself in with you in that big, roofed-off cage, and you're going to face the Test of Steel.

“Midden's got the Board on your side. I can't fire you. So I'm just going to have to put you out the company by breaking you apart.”

Eddie Peak & Troy Tornado vs. Tommy Cornell & Wolf Hawkins

A less-than-perfect main event, it has to be said, but still entertaining enough TV.

Peak comes in injured, but stays powerful; Cornell seems to be absolutely losing it whenever he has a chance to get at Tornado, the man who ended his title reign, one of the men to whom he lost two days ago.

Hawkins and Tornado are trying to wrestle despite the fury unleashed around them, trying to keep their cool.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/StevieGrayson_alt1.jpg

Stevie Grayson vaults from the top rope into the ring, catching Hawkins with a bulldog. Tornado pauses for just a moment, and Cornell lunges for him. Peak intercepts and the two spill out.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SammyBach_alt1.jpg

Eugene Williams gets into Grayson's face with a shouting match, and Sammy Bach slides into the ring and clotheslines Grayson over the top rope, then turns around to watch Hawkins. Hawkins watches Bach -

STAR MAKER!

Tornado makes the cover immediately, grabbing the pinfall with triumph.

Tornado and Cornell remain in the ring as Midden, Bloodstone and the Bombshell come out. Midden is carrying, draped over his shoulder, the World Heavyweight Championship.

“So,” he says. “I'd just like to begin by filling in anyone who was unlucky enough they've not seen how Destructive Energy finished Sunday night. Take a look...”

Johnny spilled to the outside and Tommy Cornell proceeded to drag Troy to the centre of the ring and apply a figure-four leg lock, looking to ground Tornado.

The crowd cheer for Troy as, after a few moments, he begins fighting to turn the hold over. Cornell tries to stop him but, in time, Troy turns them both to their stomachs.

Now the hold puts pressure on Cornell, and he can, in theory, break the hold himself – but as soon as Troy turns him, Johnny Bloodstone rolls into the ring, hooks Cornell's arms, and flips forward to lock in the Bloodstone Mutilation.

Caught in twin submission moves, Tommy Cornell taps out.

Both Troy and Johnny instinctively rise to celebrate as Dangerous and Azaria explode into debate. Both men were legal, both had the submission applied...

The Blonde Bombshell takes matters into her own hands, decisively raising Tornado and Bloodstone's hands into the air simultaneously.

“Whatever else,” Azaria signs off, “whatever happens on Tuesday, I can promise you this.

“Tommy Cornell is NOT the World Heavyweight Champion.”

Midden nods.

“I spent all yesterday meeting with the Board,” he says. “Talking this whole thing over.

“It ain't been an easy decision to come to. Matter of fact, that's why I held off dealing with it til now. Whatever I do, at least one of you three ain't gonna like it. And I like my skin – so I wanna avoid a brawl.

“So you three, you've all had messy matches, you're all tired, we're in a good position.

“Here's what we got, OK? There was no illegal man involved. There was no illegal hold applied. You can argue that the Bloodstone Mutilation's nastier than a reversed figure-four.

“You can argue that without the damage Troy was doing Tommy might have fought through and not tapped. You can argue he couldn't counter one because of the other.

“Hell, Tommy, from where I'm standing, if you'd not put Troy in the hold, if you'd not got in that situation, we'd have a clear world champion – but ifs don't mean anything, right?”

Cornell's jaw appears to be grinding at this point. Midden smirks and continues. “So like Jason said at the time, the one thing that's sure is that Tommy isn't the champion. But let's get on to the real question – who walks away with the belt?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine_nachtfalter16.jpg

Cornell wrenches the microphone from Midden's hand. “Me,” he growls. Bloodstone and Tornado both step forward immediately – and Number of the Beast begins to play, Tyson Baine storming toward the ring fast.

The Bombshell bails. Cornell grabs the belt from Midden's shoulder.

Baine gets into the ring and Hades Bombs Tornado while Cornell races up the aisle, pursued by Bloodstone.

Baine follows up with a Hades Bomb to Mayhem Midden just before Azaria signs off.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/book_open-2.jpg

Wednesday 3rd October 2008

“So when do we feud?”

It's a simple question, allegedly.

It's one of the most heard. You can't ally two wrestlers without them starting to ponder how the feud will end.

Never used to be like that. The Blazin' Flames were together for years. That was what they did; they made themselves a major name on the tag scene, and they stayed together. The Lords of War, the Demons of Rage – and countless others before them.

There are, of course, also situations like the Modern Day Cowboys – Sidewinder and Winchester, or, to use names that any younger readers this book has attracted will recognise, Ricky Dale Johnson and Sean Martyn AKA Skull DeBones AKA Vengeance – where the team was a vehicle to establish someone. (Actually, Sean Deeley's team with Joel is, at least in part, to do this – though I'm not sure Joel will still be active when it's time to pull the trigger on Sean's singles push).

And there are less happy situations; Adrenaline Rush was one of DaVE's premier tag teams, and it'd be difficult to rekindle that magic today – but, equally, I don't think Teddy Powell will ever reach the status Sammy Bach could. (Note: Teddy, if you're reading this, I'm hoping for you to prove me wrong or to HAVE proved me wrong by the time this book came out.)

But since John and Brent both went after different singles titles, each of them have asked me if a feud's coming. Wolf Hawkins, discussing the long-range plans for 2009, asked about a feud with Tommy – which is logical; it would make Wolf, handled properly, he has the chops to go with Tommy and the backstory is there – Johnny Bloodstone and Jeremy Stone are primed to rekindle their NOTBPW magic at the top of TCW, preferably on PPV broadcast everywhere wrestling has fans – here, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Europe, Australia, England, Ireland, Wales...

Everywhere except Scotland. (We're working on it.) Jay – Danny Fonzarelli's real name – asked me if the shaved head and RDJ/Rockwell tensions stemming from his match with Frankie would lead to a feud for him and Ricky.

There's money in feuds. Your regular wage. An increase in exposure, hopefully leading to an increase in merch sales. PPV bonuses. And, if you're lucky, a chance to establish yourself on a higher order than you had before.

For Jay, one pay-per-view in the kind of card position an RDJ match tends to be can change his financial situation for the year. And if the company get behind him enough to build him for a feud with Ricky, so the logic goes, we'll likely try and keep him strong, which means even more increased revenue.

But feuds are something that need thinking about. If Wolf turned on Tommy following Crunch Time... Just after the next big Tommy/Sam match... no one would care. (It'd also screw up the overarching Syndicate program, but that's something else.)

I know the feuds I want to see in this company for probably the next year and a half, and by the time we get there I'll have more planned.

What I don't know, unfortunately, is how long they'll evolve to take, and therefore whether they'll all happen/if someone like RDJ will be left directionless for a few months/all that kind of thing.

All in the name of better business...

The Disrespected have been making a name for themselves the past couple of months as two men who put anyone they face through a real brawl; safe to say they're upset at being excluded from Mayhem Midden's tournament, and as such Teddy Powell has requested the opening contest on Badge of Honor this week, facing off with the Keith Brothers who, of course, have been entered into the tournament.

Next up, Art Reed attempts to regain some momentum following his loss on Sunday by facing off with Eric Tyler. With both the Bombshell and Laura Huggins at ringside, a lot of chaos could erupt - and that's before you consider the ace in the hole that is the School of Tradition.

All-Action Champion Edd Stone has answered a challenge, too, agreeing to take on Danny Fonzarelli in non-title action as the freshly shorn Fonzie looks to find himself again. How will the Love Doctor fare without his long locks?

Following the Fly Boys' assault on them a couple of weeks ago, the Conquering Kings finally look set to try for revenge. Will the resurgent Fly Boys carry the day, or can Barry and Clark start moving forward once again?

The Cannonball Kid appears to have drawn an unlucky number; Tyson Baine is his opponent this Friday. It would appear that the Kid's best hope is that Eddie Peak has recovered from the assault on Tuesday - so has he? We'll find out...

And in the main event, Rick Law has granted Sean Deeley a match, stating that he wants to encourage Tyler's allies to "earn respect for themselves, rather than demand it and settle into bad habits."

The Disrespected vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

The Disrespected are basically glorified jobbers at this point. The Keiths are still being built up, but it's clear they have the talent to go as far as their push extends. If they get upset here, it looks like they're being promoted unfairly, and that's not the case at all.

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Unlikely as the win seems, I never bet against Art Reed.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. Edd Stone (non-title)

There's been a lot of talk of Fonzarelli lately. Seems unlikely you won't keep him strong here, in a non-title match.

Conquering Kings w/ Alanis Springsteen vs. the Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy

Eh. I don't care about either of these teams, but I care about the Fly Boys less.

The Cannonball Kid vs. Tyson Baine

No contest. This is too late in the card to be the squash it looks like, and there's no way the Kid is going over.

Rick Law vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

Business as usual for Rick Law.

I think that the Keith Brothers needs the win more.

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

I could see this going either way but I think Tyler picks a tainted win here.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. Edd Stone (non-title)

non-title and maybe Fonzarelli makes some heelish move that helps him pick the win.

Close one but Fly Boys have little more going on the moment

Law is feuding with Tyler so I don´t see him losing to henchman here though some kind of attacks from School of Traditions is likely

Well, we're properly into October now.

In three PPVs time, I make the jump across to TEW2010 - and, accordingly, I'm beginning the edit job; this one will be something of a biggie, after all.

So people know, I'm transferring in the new workers and promotions from TEW2010, with DIW et al set to open when they open 'historically' and, barring deaths or similar, opened by the people who are supposed to open them.

This has led to tonight's job, deleting duplicate workers whose names changed. (Still hunting out the last of those.)

Next up is getting contracts right, then getting title histories as close to up-to-date as I can.

After that, it's going to be a question of watching and waiting, as skill adjustments and popularity need taking from the final day of 08 play - and, yes, some contracts will change in the meantime.

But we're started...

The Disrespected vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Disrespected do have the aura/stench of being glorified jobbers, whilst the Keith's haven't been winning much but have looked strong in defeat and in all honestly for most of the matches have been in with the very best that TCW can offer, which is more of an endorsement than them picking up a few wins over the likes of Miyazaki & Ota or The Fly Boys.

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Would not be too surprised to see it going the other way, but I see Tyler winning via nefarious means.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. Edd Stone (non-title)

This may be non title but I see Stone winning this one here, that's because I see Fonzarelli going through a bit of a down period, that will see a more aggressive/darker character emerge at the end of the losing streak.

Conquering Kings w/ Alanis Springsteen vs. the Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy

Fly Boys do seem back on track, but I think alot of people are underestimating the Conquering Kings (Kingman/Alexander) who have gradually established themselves a solid midcard act, and whilst a Fly Boys isn't unfeasible, I'm going to go the other way on this one.

The Cannonball Kid vs. Tyson Baine

I really wouldn't want to be Cannonball Kid

Rick Law vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

In agreement with everyone else Law will go over Tyler's henchman.

The Disrespected vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Stevie and Teddy continue to deliver a touch above what you'd expect from them – not that the Brothers are exactly difficult to work with; it's more that the Disrespected actually hold up their end well, right up to the point where, as Matthew Keith ties Stevie Grayson into the Proton Lock, Sammy Bach arrives...

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SammyBach_alt1.jpg

Yanking Teddy from the apron, he takes his head off with a Motion Censor every bit the equal of Teddy's own. Deprived of rescue, Stevie Grayson submits.

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Another good, solid exhibition as the spectre of DaVE rises through the show. Reed and Tyler seem pretty much exactly evenly matched in this environment; Tyler more experienced, Art faster, more resilient.

The longer a fight like that goes, the more it favours the younger athlete. Fourteen minutes in, Laura Huggins monopolises Sam Sparrow's attention. Tyler slumps immediately into a corner, looking to regain his breath; Art Reed pauses, sensing that Tyler may be trying to lure him in.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Acid_alt2.jpg

Acid dropkicks Reed in the back of the head and clamps down the Acidity Test. After a little while, Tyler rises again and nods, and the masked man rolls out of the ring to allow Tyler to apply the Tradition Lift. Sparrow turns around in time to see a worn-down Reed submit.

Pic commissioned way back near the start of all this from FINisher

The big screen lights up and Danny Fonzarelli appears, microphone in hand.

“Time for a change,” he says softly. “The Darkness Warriors survived the Demons of Rage. We lived on even when Painful Procedure beat us for the titles.

“But in the end, the Darkness Warriors died, because it was time for a change. Dr Love appeared, and he survived Texas Pete. He survived the American Buffalo.

“He survived the Tag Team Specialists... But he didn't survive Frankie Perez.

“Time for a change.

“No hiding behind Tyson this time. No goofing around. No hiding behind the laughs. A new attitude; a new focus. A new me...

“Because never, before now, have I ever just focused on the wrestling.

“This is going to be serious. This is going to be new. And you know what – I'm not promising I'll hit the ground running.

“Tonight, I go out there and I'm gonna fight Edd Stone. I'm hoping to win. Win or lose, next time I'll go out there and aim to win again.

“Being serious about wrestling is... kind of a first for me. It'll take a while before I'm good at it.

“I'm just asking you to stick with me.”

Danny Fonzarelli vs. Edd Stone

New music for Danny replaces C&C Music Factory's Everybody Dance Now as he comes down.

We learn some new things, watching this contest. Danny Fonzarelli begins to step still further away from his Dr Love image, emphasising – as he has through 2008 – a developing array of moves and a tendency to face off against people with their own moves, becoming more than the Robbie Retro knockoff he was at the start of his solo career.

And that leads us to one of the new things, as we discover, around six or seven minutes in, that EDD STONE CAN'T POWERBOMB FONZIE!

And that, as Edd Stone ricochets off the canvas following the Party's Over, might have been that – were it not for the fact that, in the moments earlier, Eugene Williams had caught a stray forearm.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JungleJack_FIN4.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JulianWatson_FIN.jpg

Danny pauses for a moment, contemplating his next move, and as he does so, the Enforcers slide into the ring simultaneously. A rapid beatdown culminating in their superplex Gojira Falls ensues; meanwhile, Edd Stone uses the turnbuckle ropes to pull himself back to a standing position, and then to sit on the top rope.

Marlowe whips Fonzarelli into the corner, where Edd jumps out to meet him, unleashing his own Party's Over as Watson rouses the referee. Edd Stone gets away smoothly with the victory...

Conquering Kings w/ Alanis Springsteen vs. The Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy

This was hardly a match at all.

No, this was a brawl. From the beginning they ignored the rules regarding legal and illegal men. Goldworthy and Springsteen were both energetically involved right from the start.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AmericanBuffalo.jpg

And, after about five minutes, the American Buffalo hit the ring.

In the end, Sam Sparrow tossed the whole thing out, calling in every referee and road agent available to restrain the American Buffalo – a move which only mostly worked.

Conquering Kings and the Fly Boys were ruled a no-contest.

As we return from commercial, Mayhem Midden and Charlie Thatcher have confronted Floyd Goldworthy on his own backstage.

“...don't know what it's like,” Goldworthy is pleading, desperate. “I promised him he'd be a world champion. I-”

“What's that got to do with this?”

“Listen!” Goldworthy hisses, still panicked. “He gets so angry... I'm just trying to stay alive. I need reasons he hasn't won the belt...

“I told him Troy Tornado had allies, a high-flying tag team. He told me to get one. We have them. I told him Troy had Painful Procedure... but he doesn't anymore, and Buffalo's getting impatient.

“I'm just trying to keep myself alive...”

Midden growls. “He's on your contract. He's your responsibility, Floyd.

“Find a way to deal with this before it screws up the company, or I'll have Charlie take action.”

Thatcher, for the first time, smiles.

The Cannonball Kid vs. Tyson Baine

Another brutal beatdown awaits the Kid here, as Baine spares him absolutely nothing over the course of the less-than-two-minutes this match lasts.

The Hades Bomb finishes it – the second time; Baine didn't even try for a pin the first time, just picked him up and hit it again.

Baine stands up, turns – and walks straight into a Peak of Perfection. Eddie Peak, snarling, follows Baine's lead and promptly hits the move again, before throwing him out of the ring and heading to the announce table and associated desks – from under one of which he extracts a length of chain, raising it into the air, fist clenched, as the crowd scream in approval.

“Puerto Rico's always been the kind of place that welcomes these massive men,” Saunders nods.

Heading back to Baine, Peak wraps the chain around his fist, only to be cut off by a shot to the gut by a recovering Baine, who then rams Peak's back into the apron, rolling him back into the ring.

Tyson goes in after him, measuring Peak as he gets up and meeting him with a boot to the head. He scoops Eddie up for the Hades Bomb, but Peak brings the chain-wrapped fist down as Tyson has him in the air, and after a second punch, Baine topples, Peak landing above him.

The Hardcore Assassin keeps on punching, raining blow after blow down on Baine's head, the chain bloody after the third blow.

Eddie eventually rises again, looking down at that fist as it drips, as Doakes puts it, “like a bloody-handed god...”

And then he just leaves.

“I can't decide which of them scares me more,” Saunders says. Azaria has to agree.

“Tyson Baine seems to be able to go through absolutely anyone he faces in TCW,” he says.

“Anyone not called Eddie Peak.”

Rick Law vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

And if anyone had ever wondered just how badly two men can work together, they really only need to compare this contest to any other match the two men have had.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EricTyler.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/HumanArsenal.jpg

It's almost a relief, really, when Eric Tyler rolls into the ring to assault Law – although that assault is cut short, as John Anderson follows on, taking Tyler out of the equation and allowing Rick to rally, turning a Sure Shot submission attempt into a Squad Car Slam, scoring a pinfall that seems more than a little lucky – Law is clearly still nursing injuries from his fight with Khoklov.

Thank ya, chief.

Looks like there's at least 20-some still around, as the poll is getting a decent amount of traffic so far... Which is good to see. (I gotta say, having it just appear once I transfer to 2010 would just jump out at me as weird - hence all these references to backstage rules, etc, coming up.

In other news, Badge of Honor features the geekiest reference I've yet made in a diary. Brownie points to anyone (other than Regis, who heard the reference when I was using it in an SWF home game) who can identify it...

Monday 8th October 2008

In Florida a day early, alongside Tommy and the ever-present, on business trips, 'Lenny from Accounts'.

This is chiefly to stop in at a particular shopfront, behind which is a very, very intricate metalsmith's.

Reaper Productions, the sign says. They're close to unique, as far as the wrestling business goes – they do business with just about everyone. We went to them with Philly Pro to update the championships we used there, and to bring in the Maximum Championship. The XFW strap we briefly used as the unifications begun? Again, Reaper's work.

TCW go to them. The SWF go to them – as does the SWF's antithesis, underground favourite PSW. NYCW. Our developmental fed FCW (though not, I believe, CZCW – may have to talk to Tommy about getting some commissioned). George DeColt comes here...

The lobby, you could mistake for a wrestling memorabilia collection; there's photos of them all here, from America, Canada, Mexico, Europe, even Japan...

Champions wearing them. Company owners and spokesmen posing with the main designer. TCW. SWF. TWL. CPW. APWF. CWB. CGC. SCCW. DaVE. MHW.

The biggest, and the smallest.

And today, we're here to pick up a special order before the show tomorrow.

We take a couple more photos – it really is part of the deal – and I ask for a copy of one for myself. Tommy on one side with the PPPW championship, myself with a TCW strap, their designer in the middle. There's a spot in the den where it will fit just perfectly.
