A video package opens the show. Similar to the clips from the end of Tuesday's broadcast, this one is a little tighter, a little slicker. Remo features a little more heavily. The real focal points, though, are the new championship belts around the waists of Johnny Bloodstone and Troy Tornado and the bloodstained chain used by both Eddie Peak and Tyson Baine. Intercut with this is archive footage of the Test of Steel combined with clips from the Keith/Cornell war.

Chris Rockwell vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

RDJ seems to be furious at the moment, and that leaves Rockwell on the back foot here. He plays a cagey game, and he does well with it – but RDJ is just on fire, and as Crunch Time gets under way the fans see something they can absolutely get behind as the old favourite wins through – though it takes all his best moves in a row to do it.

New Wave © vs. Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch

Quite simply, a hell of a brawl. Early on, Scout pairs off with Hopper, and Hopper does some great work throwing punches until Scout manages to turn the tide, slowly shifting gears until such time as he's ready to go for a neckbreaker, slowly turning the bigger man around. Just as the turn's complete and the move is set up, Guide dives in, hitting Hopper in the gut with the Guided Missile as Scout drops, and Hopper's left clutching his gut.

Fonda breaks up the pinfall, however, and the Riders show teamwork of their own, slowly turning the tide back into their favour with their own big double teams. That lasts until Guide really gets going, at which point the whole thing becomes a real brawl.

Carl Batch, after a while, seems to shake his head. Two chairs rapidly appear in the ring, and Hopper grabs one, dropping both Guide and Scout with shots to the head as the DQ is drawn.

Batch seems to want more, demanding it, and Fonda sets the other chair up. They scoop Guide up again and prep him for the Emergency Stop, bringing him down from high into the air onto the chair, leaving it a mangled, broken mess under him as they stalk back to the locker room. “Next time,” Batch calls aloud.

Tommy Cornell, Wolf Hawkins, Jeremy Stone, the Enforcers and Tyson Baine are present in the interview room. Baine, somewhat notably, is wearing a noose made of chain links around his neck, pacing up and down, occasionally pausing to glower at the camera.

“Troy Tornado,” Cornell begins, “is a piece of ****.”

As Azaria scrambles to apologise to the listeners for his language on pay-per-view, Cornell continues. “But that's OK because, to borrow a phrase we used to use a lot down Selhurst Park, he's going home in a ****ing ambulance.”

The Enforcers smirk at that, and start up an obviously-coached chant after the manner of the best (for which, read most bloodthirsty) football chants the United Kingdom ever produced.

“He's not the only one,” Wolf Hawkins grins.

“No,” Tommy nods. “See, Mayhem – you blocked me and Tyson from challenging for titles? Fine. OK. I've always said Wolf was the future, and maybe it's time for the future to be now. But the Canadian Wrestling Machine – he's not a thing of the past.” Stone shakes his head.

“Edd's a fine, fine wrestler,” he says, “but he shouldn't be the only Stone with a title. Whatever happens, before the year is out I intend he and I to have belts around our waists.”

“So...” Cornell's face twists for a moment as if tasting something sour. “I guess that means Tyson and me, we'll pick up whatever's left outside the Syndicate in another five months. But right now – we've all got targets, son.”

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

The big lawman's arm is still taped up as he comes out to the ring. Tyler stares him down impassively, and as the bell rings, steps forward; Law boots him in the gut, grabs him with the other arm, and DDTs him.

That sets both the tone and the pace. It's big moves from both sides, with major impact throughout, and not a lot of letup. Tyler, naturally enough, concentrates on the weakened arm – notably at one point handing it to a Laura Huggins on the apron, who promptly drops to the floor, whiplashing Law's shoulder off the top rope.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Acid_alt2.jpg

That one almost does it, but Rick manages to make it back to his feet. Tyler promptly turns to the entrance ramp and beckons; Acid charges down to the ring and rolls in as Law boots Tyler over the top rope.

He has a quick go-round with Acid for a short while and seems to have the upper hand, though Laura Huggins keeps it under control with quick interference, and when Tyler makes it to his feet in time to break the count – well, things briefly look bleak.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/ArtReed.jpg

But Art Reed is there with a pair of crisp dropkicks, taking Tyler down then Acid. The pair of them manage to drive the masked man away, and Reed brawls him back up the ramp as the two men square off once again. Law manages to get the upper hand – Squad Car Slam – but Tyler is up at 8. A Weight of Tradition brainbuster sees Law not make it back until nine.

Laura Huggins hands Tyler a chair and he readies it -

LONG ARM OF THE LAW!

It went into the chair and straight into Tyler's face. Both men drop in clear agony, and neither one can recover inside ten. Neither of them could have recovered inside twenty.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins_alt3.jpg

Wolf Hawkins is now dressed for competition. He leans against a wall beside a door, arms folded, looking impatient. Looking toward the camera, he speaks.

“Right about now I asked for time so I could explain why I'm fine with beating down Stevie and Teddy again,” he begins. “For which Sammy was meant to be here, but right now-”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SamKeith.jpg

“There you are,” comes a voice, but it isn't Sammy Bach. Sam Keith, rather, steps into view. Wolf falls unconsciously into a fighting stance.

“What do you want?”

Keith half-smiles, and around the world, watching on PPV feeds, fans from the 1980s and 1990s recognise that smile. It's the smile of the master of the mind game. Sam Keith never delivered his lines with conviction – not until he came to TCW – but he was, so often, booked as the man who didn't need to be an incredible persuader. He just found that one weak link in someone's game plan, their attitude... and asked a single question. Let that question fester.

“Tommy's been doing all these tests,” he says quietly. “Aaron Andrews. Hell Monkey, whatever kind of name that is. I hear he's already lined up a few more this coming month.”

“So?”

“I think you need to ask yourself why, Wolf,” he smiles. “Tommy never wanted a Syndicate too big, just big enough to keep control. He had Tyson on line and he kept him out – until I left.

“He had Jeremy interested, hooked even, and he held off on bringing him in until he needed to.

“Same thing with the Enforcers.”

Hawkins looks back at him, entirely stony faced. “Meaning?”

“Meaning this, Wolf,” he says. “I knew about the Enforcers. I knew Tommy had them lined up, in case John or Brent got the wrong idea. I didn't know about Tyson, and I didn't know about Jeremy – because they were in line to replace me.

“I know who he's got in mind if Edd Stone ever walks off, too. But he never had anyone in mind for you, Wolf.”

The youngster preens at this, for just a moment. And then Keith continues.

“So whose spot is he auditioning for, Wolf? You wouldn't know, any more than I knew about Jeremy... Not if it was yours.”

Keith smiles, and nods, and steps back. “Good luck tonight,” he says. “You've always been an incredible wrestler, and you'll go far... when you get yourself stood on your own feet.”

And with that he's gone. Hawkins looks after him, thoughtful, and swallows. Turning back to the camera, he opens his mouth -

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SammyBach_alt1.jpg

And the door opens, and Sammy Bach emerges, followed by the sound of girlish giggling. “Sorry,” he says. “I miss it? We outta time?”

Hawkins sighs, and nods.

Edd Stone © vs. Frankie Perez

Edd Stone is still one of the most innovative talents in the business. Perhaps it's symptomatic of that that the Master of Edd Fu never uses the same techniques in one match that proved useful in his last – a true shame here, as Frankie Perez is the equal to what he produces here.

Compensating, Stone goes to more and more eccentric offence, and for a time that works, but in the end, he goes for a handspring move of some kind – and Frankie catches him in the head with a brutal mule kick. Edd turns a full circle before hitting the mat once, and flips again before his emotion is stalled.

Perez grabs him by the hair and yanks him forcefully into the centre of the ring, delivering another kick to the head before applying the P-Clutch to take the win – and his first TCW gold, won in around nine months' tenure.

The camera briefly grants the audience a glimpse of championship contender Remo Richardson pummelling a punchbag in preparation for his match. In the background is a TV set on which Phil Vibert has paused footage of the last match; he leans forward, studying the moment of Perez' big kick, and starts to make notes in that spiral-bound book of his.

Disrespected vs. Sammy Bach and Wolf Hawkins

The Disrespected get a crowd reaction not much above that which they came in with; it's not particularly horrible, but they simply haven't made an impression – not a good sign for their support in this match and, indeed, Bach and Hawkins both get some support, some cheers – something which, six months ago, would have been inconceivable. Wolf takes longer about his entrance than usual, seeming to take this in.

And then they get to work. It's a perfectly servicable pacy, punchy tag team match – but at least two of the men in the ring are capable of so much more than that.

It ends more cleanly than last month; Sammy seems to be on foreign object patrol, cutting off all Teddy's attempts to bring them into the ring, and in the end Wolf Hawkins gets the Full Moon Rising on Stevie Grayson, picking up the pinfall.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/HumanArsenal.jpg

And at that point comes familiar music, as John Anderson emerges to the Machines' anthem, the duo still clearly great allies.

The International Champion has his belt with him and he's ready to fight; he collects a microphone and climbs into the ring.

“What you see here,” he says, “is the latest belt signifying something that is as old as this company.

“It signifies that I've beaten the men who held it before. That I've beaten the men who came to take it from me – and that this fine company is proud to recognise me as a champion.

“That second part... that's where the honor comes from. Consider who else has that honor, or who has in the past. Troy Tornado. Ricky Dale Johnson. Sam Keith. Bryan Vessey. Rip Chord. Dread. Sam Strong.

“The list goes on and on, and there are so many people on that list who I am proud to have joined.

“But I do not deserve to wear this belt if I am not a champion. If I am not willing to defend it.

“Seems that this month, I have not been given an opponent. So it's time for me to ask for one.

“If you're free, if you're hungry, if the right to wear this belt means as much to you as it does to me – then you're welcome to come out here and try your luck.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/ShooterSeanDeeley.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/LauraCatherineHuggins.jpg

New music hits. The man who emerges is not new to the company, nor even to singles competition – but his focus is clearly new. Sean Deeley comes down to the ring, accompanied by a smiling Laura Huggins, with some confidence on his face.

John Anderson © vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

And the resulting match is solid, good and quick, with crisp moves – but the ending is not one guaranteed to keep the fans enthusiastic.

With Anderson and Deeley having shown themselves to be roughly equal in ability through this contest, Sean steps up his game after Laura Huggins catches Anderson's foot. The result is quite the assault, and John never gets his feet back under him – but, as Deeley goes for a rarity, a superplex, Anderson does counter, sending him to the mat.

Laura Huggins catches the top rope and John Anderson hits the floor outside the ring. Sparrow berates her, but what can he do? Anderson never makes it back into the ring, and as the news that he's won is noised through the building, Deeley suddenly smirks, happy and content.

Johnny Bloodstone © w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Brent Hill

It would be hard, going into this match, to anticipate it being other than excellent. But, sometimes, expectations are heartbreakingly too high.

Bloodstone and Hill. Two real talents, but it seems that, despite Hill's Canadian sojourns, there isn't any common ground here. This is a contest that could fit smoothly into either man's 'Worst' category, and the fact that it is, at the least, still watchable is a testimony to how high their bars are.

Bloodstone counters, at the end, from the Complete Package into the Bloodstone Mutilation – and then transitions into the Stone Hold as Azaria, thankful for an upside, suggests he's sending Jeremy Stone a message.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpg

Slowly, but surely, Eddie Peak stalks down to the ring with his music playing behind him. In one huge hand he clasps a twelve-foot length of steel chain that trails behind him, and a camera mic is just close enough for the sound of it rattling along the metal ramp to be picked up.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine_nachtfalter16.jpg

Tyson Baine comes next. He's still wearing his chain noose, and hangs it over a turnbuckle before stepping over the top rope into the ring. The two men stare at each other for a long moment; Baine holds his hand up, one single finger raised, half insult, half statement.

Peak, that unsettling, terrifying grin on his face, just nods.

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

The brutality these two have rained down on each other hasn't been in doubt in their last two big encounters, and it's on display in just exactly the same way this month, too. They continue to hurt each other – in, it has to be said, ever more innovative ways – but as ever, what they do outside the confines of a match situation is much more effective at keeping the crowd into it. The constraints of a wrestling match hurt Baine's mystique slightly.

Still, the fans cheer for Eddie, particularly when he once again splits his opponent's scalp open with a chain-wrapped punch. The Bloody-Handed God, as Azaria has dubbed him, is making his point with a real beating for Baine, whose rallies he's found the trick to stopping. That trick appears to be 'punching him even harder'.

But he can't keep the Syndicate man down; Baine is as strong as ever, and he shows it, powering out of pinfall after pinfall even as Peak struggles to stay on the offensive.

Eventually, Eddie finds something that does it; having wrapped his own chain around the top of the turnbuckle, he loops Baine's noose back around his neck and uses it to aid in a huge Peak of Perfection, dropping Baine from quite some height onto the steel-wrapped turnbuckle to finally secure the pinfall.

Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell

“Tommy Cornell knows what it is to be locked in there,” Midden says gloomily during the entrances, “Tommy Cornell has near twenty years on Sam Keith, and Tommy Cornell hasn't been repeatedly injured all month by Sam Keith's stooges.

“It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's coming. I just wish it wasn't coming.”

And yes, Tommy Cornell has all these advantages. He starts off the match faster, too, getting the upper hand quickly and keeping it for the next few minutes – until Sam manages to duck a clothesline and send Cornell crashing into the steel mesh. He immediately goes for a schoolboy, and in so doing showcases his strategy for the coming match – sneak it if at all possible. Quite honestly, his best shot at a truly decisive victory comes when he manages, somehow, to turn an attempted Guilt Trip into a NeutronPlex – and Cornell kicks out.

Keith bleeds – freely – as the match picks up speed, and Cornell does what he can – but he can't put him away. A Rough Ride that takes advantage of the cage follows – and Keith kicks out.

Cornell goes to the top rope next, standing there for a long moment. Finger pointed, he growls something the microphones don't pick up, and takes to the air – and Sam Keith raises a boot, catching Tommy under the jaw as he comes down.

The resultant arc of blood sprayed from the mouth will be replayed quite a bit over the next few months, and Keith tries to capitalise – but Cornell is, just barely, out. Sam tries a Proton Lock, and it's countered into the Guilt Trip – and Sam Keith manages to roll that over, getting Cornell's shoulders to the mat for three.

By the narrowest of margins, Sam Keith stays ahead in this series.

Troy Tornado © vs. Jeremy Stone vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

There are three distinct personalities in this match, and it's clear from the off what will happen. Tornado, the Triple-Threat Champion, feels like he absolutely must show he can win this; Remo Richardson, the newcomer, clearly just wants to destroy both these obstacles, and Jeremy Stone stays back, coming in to make a kill only, retreating when it's clear two men are about to go for him. The Canadian Wrestling Machine is far from foolhardy.

The result has the crowds on their feet throughout, and showcases some excellent action no matter your personal preference.

So how does it end? Let's face it, that's what you want to know, so let's clue you in...

After twenty-three minutes, Phil Vibert has chosen his moment. He gets Sam Sparrow's attention on the far side of the ring from the action; sensing the opportunity, Remo boots Jeremy Stone in the nuts with enough force that Stone rolls out of the ring. He ducks a punch from Tornado, grabs him around the waist, and hits a huge release German suplex – so huge that, in the process of turning all the way upside down, Troy crashes into Sam Sparrow.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/RickyDaleJohnson.jpg

Remo seems to have it made – and then Ricky Dale Johnson is on him. They trade punches and RDJ ducks away after a few moments, slipping outside the ring – and Remo follows. RDJ is smirking, steering Remo away from the ring, away from the contest, as the two men brawl into the crowd and both the other men involved in the match slowly recover.

Jeremy is better off, marginally, and gets behind Troy, going for a Stone's Throw. Troy manages to get clear in midair, landing on his feet, staggering backward into the ropes -

The Star Maker seems to be reflex more than anything else. It's not delivered at full force, and Tornado is sprawled on the mat afterward. Luckily for him, one hand is over Jeremy's torso, and Sam Sparrow revives in time for the count. One, two – three! He's done it!

Remo returns to the ring too late, and RDJ comes with him, preventing him from unleashing an attack. An injured but active Cornell gets into the ring, assaulting Troy Tornado so that Jeremy can renew his attack.

I'm assuming it woulda been a B- if it hadn't also been face/face. I was stunned by that one, though, more than by any of the other weak(er) matches. Thankfully the main events pulled me back out of the fire.

Sunday October 28th 2008

The usual post-PPV party in the hotel is going on, but I'm not staying the full time this month; I'd bring the mood down. No one's unhappy but me, Johnny, and Brent.

The latter two have both taken me aside, at different points, and apologised. I don't think it was their fault; it happens. But they – and I – know how much that match could have added to the card.

Not that it was a bad show. It was just the first time we put the Crunch Time name out there, and the first pay-per-view TCW's had shown in Australia – and those two things, between them, made us want to make it something absolutely special, the kind of pay-per-view that sells people on the following year's version in their memories.

It wasn't that. It may not have been anyway – John and Sean left the crowd a little flatter than I'd hoped, and the Disrespected program hasn't done for Stevie and Teddy what I'd hoped.

But I shouldn't complain. It was good enough, easily, and it sold well – a 50,000 seater sold out, for the first time since I had the book, perhaps for the first time since Sam Strong was still headlining (not yet checked the facts on that with the office) – and early indications are that, in part due to a new continent's sales, in part due to steady growth, it's a new record buyrate.

Which is why I wish it had been the best show we're capable of – but I've got to stop coming back to that.

Eddie Peak's back to his pranking ways; he'd gotten to the hotel before I did, and he'd found something pretty amazing. When I checked into my room, a 'gift' was hanging from the lampshade; Horatio Dangerous tied up in a thin length of silver chain.

I'd forgotten, really, about the SWF toy range I was part of. It was the early 1980s, and I was part of the tag team line alongside Andrew Barber – we may still be the least successful team in SWF history, as a matter of fact. Looking at it today, it's hopelessly crude, clunky, and undetailed.

You've got to smile.

Something else I want to mention, mostly because I want a record of it for myself in future; Jennifer Cornell was, as she irregularly is, present during the post-PPV party, and she, like Brent and Johnny, took me aside.

“You'll be getting a phone call soon, I think,” she said, “and you'll want to talk to Tommy about it straight away. When you get that phone call – you'll know which it is – talk to me first, OK? It's a... surprise.”

Jennifer is a very smart woman, and no one knows her husband better. But I get the feeling something a little unusual is going on in TCW, and I'm not sure where this is going – where it even could be going.

Had a chance to read the pay per view. Enjoyed it, as I expected. Solid work as always, PS.

Definitely -- loved the Keith-Hawkins segment. I mean, this version of Sam Keith is developing into one of my favorite TEW characters of all time, but even by his standards...

Thanks, guys. Particularly on behalf of Sam Keith, who's coming into his own as someone I really, really wanna build around.

Shame he'll probably retire next month, eh?

Joey Minnesota, the promising young wrestler once dubbed the Suplex Kid, has the honor of kicking off the first Total Wrestling of October. He's facing a returning warrior, a man who took time out from TCW to travel the world. He says he's learned - but how much? Texas Pete steps into a TCW ring for the first time in 2008 on Tuesday.

The New Wave, fresh off their championship retention, are going to be in action, too, against one of the best teams to come out of Canada, the Elite Express. Following the Easy Riders' assault, they've got to be hurting - can they squeak a win out, or can the Express catapult themselves up the rankings?

Stevie Grayson has displeased the Syndicate and it's as obvious as ever tonight. Tyson Baine has him in his sights, and sad to say, we don't see Stevie winning even after the damage done by Eddie Peak.

Speaking of the devil - or the 'bloody-handed god' - Eddie will be in action immediately afterward, facing off with fellow DaVE alum and leader of the School of Tradition, Eric Tyler.

And the Easy Riders are in action, too, hoping to make another showing of their dominance in tag team action. But their opponents - former multi-time Tag Team Champion Danny Fonzarelli and former International Champion Koshiro Ino - are a formidable duo.

Remo Richardson has been informed by Mayhem Midden that it's not going to be an off night for him - instead, he's up against Rick Law. Whatever the outcome, this will be a test and a half for Phil Vibert's prize signing.

And then, there's the main event - Sam Keith tags up alongside the Machines to take on the Syndicate onslaught that is Tommy Cornell and the Stone Brothers. This can't help but be brilliant and brutal.

Lastly, Mayhem Midden has promised that he will have a solution to present regarding the status of the World Heavyweight Championship.

Prediction Key:

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

Minnesota picks up a victory here

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

Title or no-title it´s pretty hard for me to predict against New Wave

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

Only way that Grayson could win this is via DQ

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

I could see this going either way

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Easy Riders aren´t finished their title hunt so they should go over random pairing

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

Remo have done quite well so far so I pick him over Law here

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

I actually think that Keith and Machines have a slight edge here but Cornell lost in PPV so he gets a win back here.

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

Even though Minnesota is still only a midcarder here, he should still go over Texas Pete.

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

Bit of a gamble prediction as I'm not sure if Elite Express are over enough yet but given the fact the New Wave are coming into this less than 100 % I can see the Canadian's picking up an upset win here.

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

With the feud with Wolf Hawkins seemingly brought to an end, Grayson's back to doing what the does best and that's getting beaten up by big men. It seems like in game the fans couldn't get behind Grayson and Powell and to be honest I couldn't either in this diary, as though Bach & Hawkins are heels, Grayson & Powell just came across as whiny.

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Peak's coming off a big win over Baine, I think that gives him a little more momentum than Tyler.

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Tag experience counts here and the Easy Riders are still in the title hunt

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

Remo should really be bouncing back with a win here after failing to capture the world title and Law is stuck in the feud with Eric Tyler, if Law couldn't despatch with Tyler he has no chance of winning against Remo.

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

Cornell having lost at the PPV get some heat back with his team emerging victorious

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

Can we go back to Freakin? Because Stupid Joey just sounds Stupid. No offense, Bigpapa.

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

The Elite Express can't possibly be over enough to upset the New Wave.

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

Grayson is a jobber for life.

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Peak's been on a brutal roll, and I don't see him going from beating Baine to losing to Tyler. I'm hoping to see Peak turn heel and face Tornado or Bloodstone.

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Hard call; I don't like to pick against Ino, but neither him nor Fonzarelli have been doing much lately, and the Riders could use the boost if they match up against the New Wave again.

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

Law's program just ended, and Remo is in the title picture. Though this could be a very good feud for both of them.

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

I normally wouldn't pick against Tommy twice in a row, but I think the Machines tip the scales here.

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

- Oh goodie. When two states collide! I hope Burt Oregon is reffing this match.

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

-hereby invoking the clause that sooner or later I have to be right and the New Wave (a tag team name that has NEVER suited Guide and Scout) lose a match.

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

- Bwahahahahahaha. Ahem. I mean... nope. Bwahahahaha!

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

- I mark for the Great White Shark. Ok?

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

-Riders need this *SO* much more than Fonzarellino.

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

- Remo didn't lose, Rick didn't win. Remo continues his 'Goldberg-in-WWE-push' which means it'll likely ended entertainingly badly.

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

- Main Event Schmozz. So many possibilities from the ref losing control (Eric Mississippi) and having to toss this out. Keith vs. Jeremy. Edd vs. Brent. Keith vs. Edd. Tommy vs. Anderson... the list goes on.

Prediction Key:

Joey Minnesota vs. Texas Pete

DQ win, as Pete comes off looking strong while not harming Joey's momentum.

Elite Express vs. New Wave (non-title)

The EE aren't at that level yet. A win will hurt the New Wave more than it will help the Express.

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine

JOBBER!

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Peak is destined for great things, while Tyler is winding down to retirement.

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Danny Fonzarelli & Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

I want to predict for the riders, but I want to predict for Ino more.

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Rick Law

It's not Badge Of Honour.

Sam Keith & the Machines w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers

Tough call. The Machines, I think, are more of an equaliser than the Brothers.

This is not the Texas Pete who vanished from TCW as 2007 drew to a close. This Pete picks his times, watches his oppoent, gauges, and strikes – or takes him to the mat.</p><p> </p><p>

Once in this contest, he even leaps from the second rope into a big legdrop. </p><p> </p><p>

Minnesota came loaded for hoss, and that isn't actually the best description of Pete anymore. He's hungry, he looks fitter, stronger – he's improved all over the place, and while Joey battles back, and battles back well, Pete produces a real shock, countering an attempted Empire Spiral into a revamped Lone Star Drop – formerly an imploder DDT, now the same name denotes a suplex lift into a leaping DDT. </p><p>

Elite Express vs. New Wave</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

It's not got the same response, but the heavy implication in the tones of the three men on the announce desk is that the audience simply don't recognise the Express yet.</p><p> </p><p>

The opening three or four minutes is all Express, and a real chance to show just exactly what they can do against the tag team champions. The standout moment – as Scout, in a rally, goes for the Special Force, Bobby Thomas counters it, lifting and hooking him into a vertebreaker – as Nate Johnson launches himself from the top turnbuckle, mushroom stomping Scout as Thomas finishes the move. If not for Guide, it would have been over right then; but Guide was there, and he manages to hold them off long enough for Scout to rally.</p><p> </p><p>

The tide turns, and the Wave of Mutilation ends this one in style.</p><p>

Applause sounds through the arena, magnified by microphone, and Jeremy and Edd Stone emerge, applauding, to stare down the champions.</p><p> </p><p>

“Good,” Jeremy says approvingly. “Real good. But, boys... Are you good enough?</p><p> </p><p>

“See, I made a promise on Sunday night. By the end of this year, both Stone brothers in this company will hold championship gold – and with Edd's recent issue, I want to put both of our names down right at the top of your contendership list.</p><p> </p><p>

“We have the greatest wrestling pedigree the world has to offer. I get that you wouldn't want to take us on, but... we're also Syndicate. And you do NOT want us coming after you.”</p><p> </p><p>

Stevie Grayson vs. Tyson Baine</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Poor, poor Stevie Grayson.</p><p> </p><p>

Baine hammers him remorselessly for four minutes, never once going for a pinfall, clearly still furious about the events of Sunday.</p><p> </p><p>

At the four minute mark, Baine sends Grayson flying directly at Sam Sparrow, taking both men out as if he were bowling.</p><p> </p><p>

And then he leans against the corner ropes, and waits.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins_alt3.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Wolf Hawkins slides into the ring. “Last time, Stevie,” he says, loud enough to be picked up on the camera mic. “Come back again and we really go to town.”</p><p> </p><p>

The Full Moon Rising follows and Hawkins feeds him to Baine, who hits a Hades Bomb, then picks him up, then hits another – and another. Only then does he pin him.</p><p>

Eddie Peak vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Now this is a slightly more even proposition. Tyler finds ways, as ever, to hold his own, staying clear, staying savvy, outwrestling the sheer powerhouse. His wide and varied range of skills, in face, mean he arguably puts up a better fight than Baine has been – but nonetheless, he's on the losing end.</p><p> </p><p>

Peak seems to be absolutely unbeatable right now, not to mention indestructible. And then <em>Psalm 69</em> begins to play, and he falters.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MaratKhoklov.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Eric Tyler bails out of the ring as Marat Khoklov stalks down the ramp, eyes locked on Peak, smirking.</p><p> </p><p>

Peak grins himself, standing ready, obviously looking forward to it. Khoklov goes to step over the top rope, and Peak goes to boot him back – but Khoklov stops the kick with one hand, shoving Peak back on to his ass before climbing into the ring. He catches him as he rises with an uppercut, then a running big boot, and finally, tosses Peak from the ring and shrugs.</p><p>

Law kicks out of the Destroyer, prompting Remo to try it again – and then, at Vibert's instruction, a third time before the actual pin. It's a categoric victory, ultimately.</p><p>

Tommy Cornell & the Stone Brothers</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Now this one... well, it's as good as you'd imagine, or near enough. With another five, ten minutes... it could have been an absolute classic.</p><p> </p><p>

Everyone has something to prove, and it's noteworthy that Tommy Cornell seems to want to stay far away from Sam Keith – but other than that, this is just, pure and simple, an exhibition.</p><p> </p><p>

John Anderson demonstrates conclusively that YOU CAN'T POWERBOMB EDD STONE But You Can Hit Him With The Ammo Dump, and Jeremy Stone adds the fact that If You Do His Brother Will Dump You On Your Head as a coda.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam Keith gets Jeremy with the NeutronPlex, but Edd is sufficently recovered to break up the pinfall with an unnecessarily elaborate corkscrew backflip fistdrop. Brent charges into the ring – and Cornell cuts him off. The Rough Ride, transitioning smoothly into the Guilt Trip.</p><p> </p><p>

Edd and Jeremy promptly eject Sam and John from the ring, and Brent is left with no chance, tapping out urgently.</p><p>

Backstage, in a special interview set, a desk has been set up. On one end stands Johnny Bloodstone. On the other, Troy Tornado. On the desk are both of their belts, and in between are Mayhem Midden and silent ally Charlie Thatcher. </p><p> </p><p>

“I'll keep this short and sweet,” Midden tells the camera as the Bombshell slips into the room, her arm sliding around Bloodstone's waist. The Canadian visibly untenses at her touch.</p><p> </p><p>

“A little over a month ago, both of these men beat Tommy Cornell. A month ago, Tommy Cornell stole the World Heavyweight Championship belt with the aid of Tyson Baine.</p><p> </p><p>

“The following week, both of these men had had belts signifying their championship claims made, and brought them to the show.</p><p> </p><p>

“And on Sunday, John Anderson, our International Champion, reminded me of something.</p><p> </p><p>

“Title belts are a sign only. They are a sign that the company that awards them recognises that wrestler as a true champion, and proudly holds them up as an example of some of the best it has under contract. Looking at TCW today, there are five men with recognised belts, and we recognise all five of them – the New Wave, John Anderson, Sam Keith, and Frankie Perez as among the best in the world. We recognise them as champions within their divisions.</p><p> </p><p>

“As of today, Johnny, Troy, your belts are recognised by TCW. We recognise that, through defeating the four-time World Heavyweight Champion Tommy Cornell, you have proven yourselves, and we are proud to count you as true champions.</p><p> </p><p>

“BUT... Ultimately, we cannot have two World Heavyweight Champions. Therefore, I am here to deliver the Board of Investors' edict. </p><p> </p><p>

“At Malice in Wonderland, in January, the match in the main event will be you, Troy Tornado, and you, Johnny Bloodstone – or anyone who has defeated you for one of these championship belts in the meantime – to unify the two belts. The victor's belt will be the sole recognised World Heavyweight Championship belt at that point.</p><p> </p><p>

“Good luck to you both.”</p><p> </p><p>

But yeah, he's improved significantly in development, and as a few people roll up to the main roster and others slide down into Dev, he's getting a chance to show his stuff, so I can see how he'll do.</p><p> </p><p> In total this month, six guys are back up from Dev; three are down there. <strong>Thursday 4th November 2008</strong></p><p> </p><p>

“So, how's it fit?”</p><p> </p><p>

Rebranding. I touched on it earlier, when it came to the Natural Storm/Natural Talent shift. And we've had to do more; while the former Lobster Warrior and Seduction both simply stepped back to an uncopyrighted name. Sometimes, that's not necessary – the Stones don't trademark their employees' gimmicks themselves, they encourage their wrestlers to do that themselves. We may find that another signing from them might prefer to reinvent himself – keep his trademark safe – but there haven't been issues with that thus far.</p><p> </p><p>

We could have done the same thing with Nate and Bobby – in fact, after they debuted late last month, George DeColt phoned me to ask why we hadn't. The simple answer there was to avoid treading on the old Tag Team Specialists moniker – it was a way of respecting Joel and Roberts' achievements here.</p><p> </p><p>

(Robert still hasn't worked for anyone else. I'd assumed that Stomper would love to have him in his main event, but as yet, it's not happening.)</p><p> </p><p>

The case in front of me right now is a different one. Put simply, his one ring name to date is, well...</p><p> </p><p>

It belongs to a jobber. No nice way to put it. This may just be Dave acknowledging something – he was a hell of a tennis player and he's not a bad wrestler, but in professional wrestling he shines brightest when he's taking a beating. And, ultimately, that's why we want him.</p><p> </p><p>

But we don't want to rule out the notion that he might become good enough to get a kickstart one day. The test-run brief push of the Conquering Kings got good results, and as soon as the division makeup shifts they're in position to be pushed higher and harder.</p><p> </p><p>

Dave Wallace is someone recommended to me by my son Adrian, who took a shine to the guy when they ran into each other on a Canadian indy show four years ago. He'll do any crazy stunt and make it look incredible; he can also, however, make anyone's punch look just as strong as it's meant to be. His understanding of selling is unparalleled, and is enough to make him a jobber for life.</p><p> </p><p>

So he may stay in TCW, but he's done well for Cliff Anderson; and, with the Cannonball Kid and Kazuma Narato taking a brief stint in development, he'll be teaming on the undercard to make people look good.</p><p> </p><p>

His name, however, was Air Attack Weasel, and that's just not going to work. </p><p> </p><p>

We went around this a few times. We tried out various fighter jet names. For a brief while he was going to be 'Dave Wallace' and his big move would be the Game, Set, Match. But it just didn't work.</p><p> </p><p>

It was Ricky Dale Johnson who settled it. RDJ is not, technically, on the booking committee, and probably shouldn't be, but he can be relied on to provide you with a useful reminder of how the Southern promotions used to handle these things.</p><p> </p><p>

So tonight, in the dark, Dave Wallace will try on a new mask, one TCW will keep – like MAW's Kid Arachnid – in case we can use it elsewhere later. Or perhaps Dave will get lucky, find that break, and ride it to superstardom. Who knows?</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AguilaAmericana_jhd2.jpg</span><p>

<span style="font-size:10px;"><span style="font-family:Garamond;">Image credit to jtlant and jhd1</span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Either way, before it sullies his career, Dave Wallace will see if he can work inside the mask. He tries it on, and I snap a quick photo for my records. The American Eagle is born.</p>

Ultimately, though, the story that's going to unfold with Pete's character means I want the link to be present - and hey, Cowboy Ricky Dale barely changed his name a few years back.</p>
