DOTT: WWF--New World Order

Recommended Posts

April 1, 1983

In a small but professional office, four of the biggest names in Pro Wrestling history sat around a large table, awaiting the arrival of their boss. Arnold Skaaland, 'Gorilla' Monsoon, Buddy Rogers, and Pat Patterson had all been asked to attend a meeting which promised to shake up the world, or so they had been told. Promises like that were made and broken just about every month in their business.

The door opened and their boss walked in. He was young, energetic, and ambitious. In other words, he was dangerous to anyone he didn't consider one of 'his guys.' Vince McMahon, or Vinny to these old timers, had recently taken over the control of their company from his father. Today he was ready to lay out a plan so audacious, so far reaching, that if successful it promised nothing short of a new world order.

McMahon sat down, looking even more excitable than usual. "Gentlemen, first let me say thank you for coming here on such short notice. Today is the day we change the rules."

This caused a few sidelong glances. It was Patterson who spoke up. "Which rules?"

"The rules that say we have to stay in our little sandbox. The rules that say we have to play nice with our competition. The rules that were made in some back room filled with cigar smoke and glorified gangsters. Those rules."

Skaaland raised a hand. "Vinny, your father was in those meetings too."

"I know, and if he were sitting here he'd call me crazy and a lot worse but I am the owner of this company now and I have a new vision for our business."

The silence of the four men gave him the assent to continue.

"I love history and especially war history. Revolutionary war, civil war, world war two, all of them. We are at war, make no mistake, and our enemies...Gagne, Crockett, Von Erich, Graham...all of them, want to blockade us into our little region. They want to strangle us until we wither on the vine. But I'm not going to allow that. I'm going to fight back, all of us are going to fight back."

Rogers crossed his arms, studying the younger man. "How do you do that?"

"We break out, like an army would if they were surrounded. We invade their markets over television and marketing. We get our people on Carson and in the movies and things like MTV that my kids love. We make our product, our form of this sport more entertaining than everyone else. We have the best wrestlers in the world, we need to show people across the nation."

Monsoon ticked off on his fingers. "Flair, Race, Rhodes, Funk, not to mention a bunch of younger guys who look great. We don't have a monopoly on talent here."

"Not yet." That brought murmurs. "All the ones you mentioned, I want them. I want them in our ring, main eventing our events and someday I'll have them all."

Patterson spread his hands with a grin. "We going to put everyone out of business?"

McMahon's eyes steeled. "If they won't get out of my way, yes. I'll put every single one of them out of business. Now I called you here because you are the guys I can trust but if you're not with me on this, then I need to know." He stood and walked out of the room, giving them their privacy.

Skaaland sighed. "The good ol boys are not going to take this lightly."

Monsoon shook his head. "God damned right they won't but I've never heard anyone in this business say those kinds of things with a look on their face like that. He's serious."

"But what happens if he tries this and fails?" asked Patterson.

Rogers stood up, pacing. "People asked the same thing when Mr. McMahon began the WWWF. When he made me champion. When he told the NWA to go screw itself. The kid wants to try this, he wants to rule the professional wrestling world, I say go for it. Shove their cigars down their friggin throats."

Monsoon, nodded. "If this works...."

Skaaland nodded solemnly. "Yea...if."

<BR>

McMahon: Hello and welcome to All American Wrestling! I’m Vince McMahon and next to me is Gorilla Monsoon. Tonight’s show is action packed and our main event is Jimmy Superfly Snuka going one on one with the eight wonder of the world, Andre the Giant!

Monsoon: But that’s not all. We’ll also see veterans Pedro Morales and Ray Stevens go at it, and in addition we’ll see the exciting Tito Santana in action.

McMahon: But as we go to the ring it’ll be Sgt. Slaughter up first against up and comer Eddie Gilbert.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/E-H/EddieGilbert2.jpg Versus http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/R-T/SgtSlaughter.jpg

<BR>

As expected, Slaughter dominates the match, seemingly torturing the young Gilbert from corner to corner. More than once Slaughter pulls him up from a sure three count to deal out more damage. Finally, the match is brought to an end thanks to the Cobra Clutch.

Winner: Sgt. Slaughter by Pinfall

<BR>

============

<BR>

Following the match, Slaughter takes the microphone from ring announcer Howard Finkel.

Attention! It has become evident that the losers who sit in this arena, and the slime that sits at home will never show the proper respect to someone of my stature, so I will continue to destroy anyone in my way like you just witnessed here tonight. But this is a business and no matter how great I show myself to be, I will never get my due without someone who has my back and who is looking out for me. I have found a man to do that, in fact I have found the best man in wrestling to do that. Let me introduce to you pukes, my new manager…the Grand Wizard!

<BR>

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/E-H/GrandWizard2.jpg

<BR>

The Wizard comes out, to a chorus of boos and enters the ring, raising Slaughter’s arm in the air and promising to take his man to the top as the show enters its first commercial break.

<BR>

Rodz took the early advantage but Santana grabbed the momentum when he reversed an irish whip into a pinpoint dropkick. From that point it was Santana showing off a series of holds until he finally ended the night with a flying forearm off the ropes.

<BR>

Winner: Tito Santana by Pinfall

A video is shown of a very fancy restaurant. You can’t see who is sitting there because you see things from their perspective. It’s clear that it’s a very strong man however. The waiter brings a fine bottle of wine but the man waves it off, wanting instead the champagne in the waiter’s other hand. Another waiter brings a full course meal but by the gestures of the unknown man, it’s not good enough. Finally a waiter brings the check and he signs his name, which by the waiter’s reaction is the greatest thing he’s ever seen.

<BR>

The video ends with ‘The Ultimate Male is coming soon.’

<BR>

A matchup of true veterans in the sport, it went back and forth with Morales controlling the beginning of the match with the crowd’s approval and Stevens stealing it with an underhanded move or two. Morales finally gained control back hitting a belly to back suplex, then locking in the Boston Crab for the victory.

<BR>

Winner: Pedro Morales by Submission

<BR>

Backstage, Lou Albano and ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka are standing by with Lord Alfred Hayes.

<BR>

Hayes: I am here with Superfly Jimmy Snuka and his Manager, Captain Louis Albano. Gentlemen, tonight you step into the ring with Andre the Giant, widely known as the eighth wonder of the world. What is your strategy tonight?

Albano: Strategy nothing. This man here doesn’t need nicknames. He doesn’t need anything to beat that hulking slow behemoth. I found him in the jungle, swinging from trees and I brought him here to unleash a savage vengeance on everyone in our path.

Hayes: And I assume that would mean World Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund if you should ever get a title opportunity?

Albano: Backlund, Morales, Giant, it don’t matter. The Superfly is going to climb to the top of the WWF like he climbs to the top of the ropes. Let’s go.

Hayes: Back to you Vince and Gorilla.

<BR>

A graphic is shown announcing that following the last commercial break, it’ll be the main event. Andre the Giant versus Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka.

<BR>

As Albano tries his best to distract Andre as the match begins, Snuka climbs to the top and flies, hitting the giant across the back with a tomahawk chop. Andre is in a great deal of pain and Snuka wastes no time hitting with chops and kicks, trying to wear down the giant until Andre catches his arm on a failed chop and delivers one of his own, then several more. An Irish whip sees Snuka duck a clothesline but when he goes for a cross body block, Andre catches him and dumps him with a big body slam. Before he can capitalize more, Albano drags his man out of the ring and they collect a ten count as they head back to the dressing room.

<BR>

Winner: Andre the Giant by Count Out.

<BR>

McMahon: Hello and welcome to Championship Wrestling! I’m Vince McMahon and I’m joined by Gorilla Monsoon. Gorilla, we have a big time show tonight highlighted by a match for the Intercontinental Championship.

Monsoon: That’s right Vince, the Magnificent one, Don Muraco is putting his strap up against former World Champion Bruno Samartino right here tonight.

McMahon: We’ll also see a non title match with Tag Team Champions, the Wild Samoans against Jules Strongbow and S.D. Jones. As well, what should be a great match with Ivan Putski against the Masked Superstar.

Monsoon: But first we have a man who claims to be the real Giant of the WWF, Big John Studd against Salvatore Bellomo. All I can say is, good luck Salvatore!

<BR>

Squash doesn’t even begin to describe this one. David and Goliath times a thousand but David left his slingshot at home. Studd tosses Bellomo around the ring, punishing him with power moves until he decides that he’s bored with his workout and ends the match with a bearhug.

<BR>

As Albano distracted referee Dick Kroll, the Samoans jumped their opponents from behind before the bell. Jones was tossed to the outside and they quickly brought Strongbow down to the mat. When the referee finally got control, it was too late. Jones eventually got tagged in but he met the same fate as Strongbow and was eventually put out of his misery by a samoan drop delivered by Afa.

<BR>

Winners: The Wild Samoans by Pinfall

Hayes: I am joined now by former World Champion Bruno Samartino. Tonight you have the chance to add another title to your resume when you challenge the Magnificent Muraco.

Samartino: That’s right and I plan to make the most of it. Opportunities like this don’t happen every day.

Hayes: Your styles of power are very similar, how do you overcome Muraco’s age advantage?

Samartino: If that’s a nice way of saying how does the old man overcome the young one I appreciate the way you put it. You’re right. Muraco is younger than me, he’s as strong as a bull and he’s earned that championship belt. But I know a thing or two about winning and hanging onto a belt and tonight Muraco, you better be ready because I sure am.

Hayes: It should be quite a contest!

<BR>

Putski takes it to the masked man from the opening bell with power and has the Superstar on the ropes both literally and figuratively until he reverses an Irish Whip and catches Putski with a knee lift. From there he focused on Putski’s neck, putting pressure on through some wear down holds until he was able to set him up for a final swinging neckbreaker. That got the 1-2-3.

<BR>

Winner: The Masked Superstar by Pinfall

<BR>

Muraco seems to take the challenge as anything but in the beginning but Samartino’s strength was still in force as he sent the IC Champ into the corner after a lockup. Samartino’s speed however, which was never really all that great, definitely was lacking which allowed Muraco to slow him down even more with attacks on his knees. Samartino’s last gasp ended quickly when Muraco slipped out the back of a bodyslam and nailed a spinebuster. Putting his feet up on the ropes, unseen by the referee, let Muraco get a three count and escape with his title.

<BR>

Winner and still WWF Intercontinental Champion: ‘Magnificent’ Don Muraco by Pinfall

<BR>

As Samartino complains to the referee, Muraco celebrates his victory on the outside, telling the world how great he is as the show ends.

Meanwhile, back in Stamford....

Vince McMahon was in a good mood, a very good mood. Sitting down at the weekly meeting with his inner circle he was met with several concerned expressions.

"What's with all the sour looks?"

"We're only a few thousand in the black this week." said Patterson, showing McMahon the figures of the last week's income.

"How's that possible?"

Monsoon took that one. "Because when we merged our tapings, we lost half our ticket sales. Same crowd, same ticket. The boys loved it with less travel but the accountants hated it."

"Okay...that one's on me. Move All American's taping to Wednesday. I also have been on the phone today locking in four weekly shows off television. JFK Coliseum, Springfield Civic Center, Hamburg Fieldhouse, and Asbury Convention Center. We'll run one show a month, on a given thursday in that locale. That ought to help the bottom line, eh?"

The nods of the industry veterans persuaded him he'd made the right decision.

"Okay, that's settled. How have the contract offers gone?"

"With the exception of three people, it's gone great." mentioned Skaaland.

"Which three?"

"Rhodes, Piper, and Ventura. Rhodes turned us down but I'm trying to call him back, Piper never responded, and Ventura wanted too much money for someone in his condition to demand. He's great on a mike but come on, he's a glorified commentator."

McMahon sighed. "I wanted Ventura to take my spot on TV."

Monsoon stuck a finger in the air. "I have an idea for that. One of the guys we signed away from Minneapolis. I think he and I could work pretty well together."

"Alright then, go for it. I had an idea this morning while we’re talking about bringing in some money. I want to start a magazine that we’ll sell at our events and maybe even in newsstands. Pump up some of the hype on storylines and spotlight some wrestlers. Get people talking and we can spread our name nationwide. So uh, next on the agenda…let’s talk about next week's shows. What are we looking to do?"

Patterson handed out copies of the run sheet.

All American Wrestling:

Orton vs Gilbert

Graham vs Orndorff

Chung/Fuji vs Soul Patrol

Iron Sheik vs Backlund

Championship Wrestling:

Valentine vs Williams

Rodz vs Steamboat

Samula vs Santana

Masked Superstar vs Morales

McMahon looked it over carefully. "I want Slaughter, Snuka, and some others on there talking it up and getting us ready for the end of the month. But I like the fact we're introducing so much of the new talent. I'm looking forward to another promo by the Ultimate Male. Let's set up his debut for the big show, okay?"

As the meeting broke up, McMahon looked over the planned matches again and taking out a pen made a few notes in the margins. Yes, it was time to shake things up. He picked up the phone. "Get me my father, I need his advice."

Heenan: “That’s Bobby the Brain Heenan, thank you. “

Monsoon: “Okay Brain, what brings you to the WWF?”

Heenan: “Well it’s certainly not to be sitting here next to you. I am the manager of champions and I am here to scout the WWF. When I find someone worthy of my managerial talents they’ll be added to the Heenan Family and there’s no better vantage point to see that ring than right here.”

Monsoon: “Speaking of the ring, let’s go down for our first match of the night.”

Valentine attacks Williams before the bell, to the protest of the referee. Steamboat and Rodz showed some great chemistry in their first match with an even showing from both men. Steamboat kept the energy up with some high flying attacks and martial arts. When Rodz rushes into the corner and eats a boot, Steamboat launches himself up to the top rope and comes flying off with a cross body block to get the 1-2-3.

Hayes: “I am joined now by the Grand Wizard, and his newest client, Sgt Slaughter. Gentlemen, you asked for this time but you will not say for what purpose. “

Wizard: “You want to know, the world wants to know, and I am more than happy to tell you. This man, Sgt. Slaughter is laying out the challenge here and now to the so called World Champion, Bob Backlund. You can’t run from us forever Backlund. You cannot hide from this man. Sooner or later Backlund you’ll have to step into the ring with him and put that title of your’s on the line. “

Hayes: “I do not believe that the Champion, Bob Backlund, would ever turn away a challenger.”

Wizard: “That’s great to hear because then he can meet us in two weeks. Backlund, your time as Champion is very very limited, so I suggest you enjoy it.”

Slaughter: (gets into Hayes face and blows his whistle.) “And Backlund….that’s…an order!”

Samula holds the early advantage, using his power to keep Santana on the defense but Tito rebounds after an Irish Whip to leapfrog the Samoan and deliver a dropkick to the mouth which staggers the bigger man. Samula recovers to whip Santana into the corner but when he leaps into the corner, Santana moves and Samula cracks his head off the turnbuckles causing him to stagger back towards the middle of the ring where Santana hits the ropes and comes off with a flying forearm for a hard fought win.

<BR>

Morales wins an early test of strength and the two men trade the momentum and the punishment being dealt out. Following a series of clotheslines by Morales, the Masked Superstar rolls out of the ring but Morales follows him. However the masked man appears to play opossum and slams Morales into the ring post, busting him open. He then grabs the camera cords laying on the ground around ringside and wraps them around the neck of Morales. The referee issues the five count, then calls for the bell.

<BR>

Winner: Pedro Morales by Disqualification.

As the referee continues to call for the bell, Masked Superstar will not relent, choking out Morales with the camera cable. As the show goes to black, officials finally get him to stop his attack and they are checking on Morales.

BREAKING NEWS: WWF CLAIMS MORE TALENT

As evidenced by last night's Championship Wrestling, the WWF has signed manager Bobby Heenan away from Verne Gagne and the AWA.

<BR>

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/A-D/BobbyHeenan.jpg

<BR>

Backstage sources say Heenan, on orders from new boss Vince McMahon did not inform the AWA of his decision. Some in the AWA say Gagne was furious when learning of Heenan's defection and may be looking into legal avenues to stop McMahon.

<BR>

The latest news is also no better for Jim Crockett Promotions. Late last night Roddy Piper came to terms with the WWF and will be heading north to join his MACW tag team partner 'Cowboy' Bob Orton.

Brain, tonight we’ve got quite a show, headlined by the Iron Sheik, himself a newcomer to the WWF going up against Bob Backlund for the World title. Does it get much bigger than this?

Heenan: No it doesn’t Monsoon, and that’s why I’m here. I want to see the biggest and the best because I only accept the biggest and the best into my managerial family

Monsoon: You’ll certainly get your chance tonight as we go down to the ring.

Orton controls the tempo from the opening bell, wearing down Gilbert and hitting several suplexes. Gilbert to his credit doesn’t fold and actually manages to get in a little offense when he reverses an irish whip and drop kicks Orton from the ring. Orton recovers and gets back in, hitting a knee to the gut, followed by a gut wrench suplex. A few moments later he has Gilbert on the top and comes down with a superplex for the victory.

<BR>

Orndorff and Graham show little respect for each other in the beginning moments and spend the first several minutes in a posedown with the crowd getting behind Orndorff much to Superstar’s consternation. Throughout the match both men rely on their power but Orndorff is also quicker than Graham and uses it to his advantage to slip behind Graham and lock on a full nelson in the middle of the ring. Graham can’t escape and looks shocked that he can’t power out of the hold. Rather than submit, he mule kicks Orndorff below the belt causing the referee to call for the bell.

Vince McMahon entered his office, his mood sour at best.

"The ratings went down even with a world title match. What the hell is going on?!"

Buddy Rogers and Pat Patterson raised their hands at the same time to calm him down.

"Look, you're shaking up the boat and as long as the networks don't lose faith we're going to be in great shape as these new guys gain popularity with our fans."

Rogers nodded his agreement. "Exactly. Just keep pushing ahead. Like this signing you did with Volkoff. He's a solid guy to make others look good."

Patterson butted back in. "I'd like to see him and the Sheik together. It's a shame Freddie is retiring next month or he could be a great manager for them. They're gonna need a mouthpiece."

Vince nodded. They definitely do. Albano has the Samoans...and we're holding Heenan for awhile. There's always the Wizard."

"Hey, what about Fuji?" asked Rogers.

"Fuji? I suppose he could manage them."

"You know Vince, people love the bag guy foreigner. An Iranian and a Russian managed by an Oriental? Could work."

McMahon nodded again. "Alright we'll go with that. Speaking of Freddie I'm going to ask him and Alfred to move backstage and work as agents."

"What about backstage interviews?"

"I have that covered. Now what do you guys have in mind for this week's shows?"

Rogers slides him a paper with scribbled notes across it. "The one thing we're going to focus on is adding in a segment so we can highlight one of the matches for the big show."

Championship Wrestling:

Valentine vs Garea

Morales vs Rodz

Samoans vs Gilbert and Williams

Slaughter vs Strongbow

All American Wrestling:

Kernodle vs Putski

Samula vs Gilbert

Graham vs Bellomo

Snuka vs Santana

In Your House:

Sheik and Volkoff vs Invaders

Ray Stevens vs Bruno Samartino

Big John Studd vs Bellomo

Greg Valentine SD Jones

Bob Orton vs Tony Garea

McMahon gave it a thoughtful look over. "I want to hire some more low carders so we don't wear out the ones we have. Also, what do you think of bringing in a woman's division? Nothing serious just something to kill some TV time."

Rogers crossed his arms. "Kill TV time is about right."

Patterson had a good laugh from that. "I dunno. There have been alot of tough broads in this business. If you can find a handful..maybe six who can actually put on a match without causing everyone to walk out of the arena or turn their TVs off, it might be worth it."

"I'll look into the women next month. Now we have to focus on the end of the month event. With the ending we have planned, this needs to come off very carefully. But with some luck, nobody will see it coming."

I am the man who made wrestling what it is and some punk with a nice body, not as nice as mine, but nice anyways, won't change that. When I get Orndorff in that ring again, the world will see what happens when I crank his head off his shoulders like popping a tick."

Graham poses for the camera, again kissing his bicep. (C-)

Jimmy Snuka_____with Lou Albano________Tito Santana

<BR>

They lock up in the middle of the ring and after several attempts, neither can get the upper hand. Albano is at ringside shouting commands and when the referee turns to say something to him, Snuka lands a sucker punch to Santana’s jaw. From there he controls the match with chops and headbutts and a few wear down moves until Santana ducks a chop coming off an Irish Whip and lands a standing dropkick. Santana leads the dance for the next few minutes until Albano climbs onto the apron which distracts both the referee and Santana which allows Snuka to not only recover, but hit a low blow from behind on Santana. With Santana down, Snuka goes for the pinfall but Santana puts hit foot up on the rope. Before the ref can see it, Albano smacks it down and they escape with an underhanded victory.

Winner: Jimmy Snuka by Pinfall (C-)

After the match, Snuka and Albano are putting the boots to Santana when the crowd erupts and Andre the Giant appears, climbing into the ring.

Snuka looks wild in his eyes and appears to want a piece of the Giant again but Albano virtually drags him from the ring as Andre just wags a finger at him with a serious glare as the show goes off the air. (B+)

April Week 4 Creative Meeting

Vince McMahon looked across the table at his inner circle. “Alright, we’re making some progress. Gorilla, give’em the rundown.”

Monsoon put on some reading glasses. “All six of our matches are gaining good public momentum, especially Snuka and Andre. I think it’s pretty clear that their match needs to lead in Backlund and Slaughter. Our television ratings held steady this week and the new weekly house shows that Vince came up with are packing them in, and gaining us some interest.”

Buddy Rogers sipped from a cup. “I can’t believe you dropped a title at a non-televised event like that.”

McMahon had expected someone to bring it up. “When word of Steamboat got out, the attendance the next week went up by several hundred tickets. It’s like what we did this week with Piper. He wrestled his first match with us, and told the crowd that he’s going to be at the big show and he’ll be the one interviewing the Ultimate Male. When those people spread the word, our attendance numbers will go through the roof, believe me.”

Monsoon waited for a moment, then continued. “We are awaiting call backs from several workers who will give our usual enhancements a break. We’re also talking to Stampede, and Southwest about some talent trades or just signing some of their guys. We tried the same deal with Poffo but they turned us down.”

“And now they’re almost off TV.” Added Patterson.

“Exactly. In a few months they’ll fold and we can swoop in.” McMahon said, pointing a pencil as if to emphasize.

Monsoon set the paper down. “We’re at the start the big promotional week so how do we want to proceed here?”

After almost an hour the run sheets were determined.

Championship Wrestling:

Afa and Sika vs the Invaders

Snuka vs Gilbert

Superstar Graham vs SD Jones

Backlund vs Rodz

<BR>

All American Wrestling:

Sheik vs Williams

Orndorff vs Valentine

Slaughter vs Garea

Steamboat/Morales vs Masked Superstar/Muraco

“Alright…” McMahon said as he stood. "Let’s promote the hell out of this show this week. I’m going to keep working on that ending with Sarge and Backlund."

As he left the room, Patterson turned to Monsoon and Rogers. “So what’s this big ending he’s talking about?”

Both men shrugged which left Patterson both unconvinced of their innocence and McMahon’s plans.

Gorilla Monsoon___Bobby Heenan

<BR>

Monsoon: "Welcome to Championship Wrestling. I'm Gorilla Monsoon and beside me is Bobby the Brain Heenan. Brain, tonight we’ve got two championship holders on the slate in the Wild Samoans and World Champion Bob Backlund both in non-title matches.”

Heenan: "Backlund better enjoy wearing that belt to the ring tonight because Sgt. Slaughter gets his hands on him, the champ is going to be the chump.”

Monsoon: “I doubt it, but you never know, that’s why they settle it in the ring. Speaking of the ring we go down to the ring right now for our opening match.”

_____Afa_______________Sika____________with Lou Albano___________Invader #1_______Invader #2

The Invaders take the Samoans to task and score a huge pinfall upset on the WWF Tag Team Champions. Just kidding. The Samaons completely dominate their opponents with brute force for several minutes. Invader #2 is nearly decapitated by a clothesline as Invader #1 is scooped up and almost put through the mat by Afa with a Somoan Drop.

Winners: The Wild Samoans by Pinfall (D+)

<BR>

Following the match the Samoans are stomping around acting wild as Albano orders them to remove the Invaders from the ring. He then yells for a microphone.

Albano: "Atlas, Johnson, you think you have what it takes to take the belts off my men? Let me tell you, you don't. Let me tell you another thing. We're not coming into this championship match just to beat you and defend our titles. We're coming in to embarrass you, you humiliate you, and to put both of out of this sport. You want to save your careers? Don't show up in Connecticut!"

Jimmy Snuka __________with Lou Albano __________Eddie Gilbert

<BR>

Snuka never gives Gilbert a chance. From the opening bell he uses his agility and strength to keep the young man off balance. With Albano shouting constant instructions, the Superfly kicks, chops, and overall decimates Gilbert from corner to corner. A big splash off the top rope seals the deal.

Winner: Jimmy Snuka by Pinfall (D+)

A video is shown of Andre the Giant training for his match against Jimmy Snuka. In it, Andre is shown lifting a small car by its rear bumper, chopping wood with an axe which in his hands looks more like a hatchet and finally standing alone in a ring. A whistle blows and half a dozen unknown wrestlers hit the ring trying to attack him at once and he easily wipes them out. The video ends with just a smile from the Giant but his eyes are serious.

Superstar Billy Graham_____________SD Jones

<BR>

Graham wastes no time in attacking Jones from behind before the bell starts. Whenever he's got Jones on the mat or in the corner he makes sure to remind the crowd that he has the best body in the business. Jones never gets much traction going in this one and following some power moves by Graham the victory is secured by an incredible bear hug which forces Jones to submit after only a few moments.

Winner: Superstar Billy Graham by Submission (D)

<BR>

--------------

<BR>

Following the match, Superstar waves Gene Okerlund into the ring.

Okerlund: "Superstar Billy Graham, in less than a week you step into the ring with the man who's now calling himself Mr. Wonderful, Paul Orndorff. You were just shouting to all of us how great your body is and how it compares to his..."

Graham: "Now hold it right there. His body doesn't compare to mine, it cannot compare to mine and it will never compare to mine. I have biggest arms in the world, brother. I have the toughest regiment. I am the man with the power, oh yea you've heard it before and you'll hear it again this Sunday."

Okerlund: "You sound pretty confidant going against a man who's younger and some say in better shape than you."

Graham: "Listen here you little worm..."

Okerlund: "Worm?"

Graham: "You heard me. You listen here. Paul Orndorff cannot beat the Superstar, he cannot compare to the Superstar. I will say it here on nationwide TV, if Paul Orndorff beats me in the center of this ring, the Superstar will hang it up."

Okerlund: "Is that a promise?"

Graham: "It's a fact, Jack!"

Okerlund: "You heard it here. If Paul Orndorff defeats Superstar Billy Graham, Superstar will retire from professional wrestling. Gorilla, back up to you and the weasel."

(C+)

<BR>

--------------

<BR>

Heenan: "Did he just call me a weasel?"

Monsoon: "He did indeed."

Heenan: "What have I ever done to him?"

Monsoon: "You could try being a little nicer."

Heenan: "Fine, the next time I see Okerlund I'm gonna take him out to get his head turtlewaxed."

Monsoon: "And you wonder why you're disliked. Coming up next folks is the main event. World Champion Bob Backlund against the veteran Johnny Rodz!"

Bob Backlund_____________Johnny Rodz

<BR>

A nice back and forth match which saw Backlund control the early moments through scientific amateur holds, Rodz take the momentum in the middle of the match, and Backlund with the crowd's urging, take the victory after he reversed an Irish whip then caught Rodz coming off the ropes in a Cross Face Chicken Wing. Rodz doesn't last long before submitting.
