Should I Do A Brand Split?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I need a little help. I've never done a brand split before, but now I'm considering it. I usually play smaller promotions but now I've started a TCW game and the roster is a bit overwhelming. I thought a brand split would help with that. My problem is that I don't want to do it like WWE where there are multiple world titles and such. I'd like to have my second brand be for mostly my lower ranked guys and maybe have a midcard title be the most prestigious for that brand. Is this possible in TEW 05? Would I hurt my popularity by doing it this way? Any help is much appreciated!

I have experienced that if I use one of my brands as a show for my lesser stars, their lack of skills do cause more C TO C- shows which does hurt popularity eventually.

It only works for me if I make sure I have a few Main Eventers on each brand. That way my show quality doesn't dip too much from one show to another.

<p>Currently considering a brand split due to running a Womens Competitive promotion on a real life mod (2006). At least half of my roster are Japanese & B/C rated there but F rated in the US, the other half are US & Canadians who are popular but have no real wrestling ability. </p><p> </p><p>

As a workers popularity goes up everywhere its shown if they have a good match on a TV show/PPV held in a country they are over in I figure the JOSHI!! brand can work shows exclusively in Japan that are shown around the world and get them over with the US crowd. As skilled workers get over I can bring them back and start improving the skills of the North American workers.</p><p> </p><p>

The only problem I can see is it may leave the DIVA brand short on skilled workers.</p>

<p>I sometimes do this a different way.. kind of like the Joshi example.</p><p> </p><p>

I'll use one brand for tag, one for single's, and one for woman. Ussually, when I do this, it's not with a company big enough to have shows divide the talent though... so the show's aren't split.</p><p> </p><p>

I've done it "Kind-of" like the OP is suggesting as well. As was said, it's best if you include a few higher cards in the split though. Having the lower card on "B" shows works out good.</p><p> </p><p>

Take WWE for example. Most mods are making ECW included in one of the brands. I immediately change it, so that they are of their own brand. I then give them at least two Main eventer's, and split the rest of the ME between Smackdown and Raw. I will use alot less on ECW (because of the one hour show, as opposed to two hours), and focus primarily on the lower cards. The people I want to actually push from lower to higher cards, I use the main shows for. </p><p> </p><p>

I also ussually have the brand split mean something as well... With Raw, Smackdown, and ECW having a difference in the way I utilize them. Ussually, this means Raw I put under Mainstream, Smackdown under Normal or traditional (depending on what I do with ECW), and ECW under Traditional or Modern.</p><p> </p><p>

So, I'll have more Lower cards on ECW, with more ME and upper mids on Raw and Smackdown. I run each brand differently, but take advantage of which worker's seem to work better in each one. I ussually bring back the Cruiserweight division for ECW though, and get them an "A" Show, if it's being called a "B" show. </p><p> </p><p>

Keeping your women, or tag teams primarily on one brand works great, if you have more then one title for them. I like to have a ME title for tag teams, and at least a mid-card title for Woman's.. with WWE I just bump one of them up (and I don't keep them unified, as I like tag teams, lol).</p><p> </p><p>

EDIT: I just realised this is dealing with 2005, so just take out whatever I said that doesn't apply, lol.</p>

<p>Brand splits always seem to worry people. I'm included in that group. I've found some 'interesting' success using brand splits in the past. Usually it's after years and years of building up a smaller promotion. When the roster gets to the point where you're not using half of them on a show... that's bad. A brand split is necessary in some situations, like the one you've presented.</p><p> </p><p>

I've always created two brands: entertainment-value and wrestling-value. Both of them incorporate wrestling to the show A LOT... but one even more so than the other. I rarely run a promotion where angles determine the show - this is helped me in the past. Both TEW05 and TEW07 are very similar when it comes to brand splits. I've even done two PPVs a month (one per brand). Financially it's a win as well. </p><p> </p><p>

BUT - you must do what others have said. Keep the rosters on each brand very similar. As long as both brands (shows) have star power, athletes, and a few entertainers you'll be OK. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Well, my JOSHI!!/DIVA plan is working. Instead of constant D/C- rated shows I now have 2 sets of C+/B- shows with a lot of my joshi workers having gone from openers/ETs to Mid & Upper mid. They aint ready to go back yet, but things are definately on the up!
