Build him up to a more prominent role and see what happens.

I mean, look what happened last year with Slater; he started the year off as a complete jobber, then when he had his free agent story and eventually became tag team champion. That's one example of WWE deciding to put their faith on a star and seeing what happens.

But at the end of the day, WWE is a business. They do what they do want and that's their right. We can say whatever we want, but unless something drastic changes, this is the status quo; and we're stuck with it.

(Also, saying WWE is falling into WCW territory sounds a little exaggerated to me, especially considering how bad WCW got during it's last years. Just saying)

The difference between building up Slater and building up Zayn though, is that post-split SmackDown in 2016-2017, much like post-split SmackDown from 2002-2005, is in an experimental phase (a bit like "let's throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks", but a slightly smarter version) and has a bit more leeway than Raw (still considered the A show no matter what) to try new things and see what moves the needle THERE.

The live crowds for both shows might possibly be similar, but the SmackDown crowds know that SD is in that period and are being more receptive to new guys being built.

"Free Agent Heath Slater" would NEVER have lasted as long as it did and gotten as over as it did if he'd been on Raw dealing with Stephanie (who's relying on the older hands and the guys she and Hunter personally built up) rather than SmackDown dealing with Shane and Bryan (who are willing to give the 'underdogs' a chance); in fact, I think Zayn needs to be traded TO SmackDown so that they can give him a GOOD build-up and prove to Steph and Vince that the desired reaction for him IS there and that he can be trusted (barring injuries, of course) to put a main-show belt on.

I happen to think that Cena being drafted to SmackDown was a sorely-needed breath of fresh air for his stale gimmick, and I personally think his matches with AJ (where he got to once again finally demonstrate that he's actually more than 5 moves) did wonders in getting him back over with the usually anti-Cena crowds.

If AJ had been on Raw, sure he probably would've won the Universal Title by now, but we all know that, despite their efforts to push it like the WHC back in the first brand split, it wouldn't have had the same impact as Styles winning the actual nominal WWE (WHC) Championship.

I probably have a few other opinions, but my head is fuzzy right now with the sniffles.

WWE literally watched smarks and adult male fans whine and moan about John Cena for 10 years until they began praising him after all their beloved indy guys made him look great, now smarks love Cena lol.

But those fans still watched, still attended shows, ordered PPVs, mercg, etc. WWE still profitted off them.

So why should WWE let fans booing Roman Reigns stop them? Especially when attendance is still fairly high, they are still making money, and the two WMs that featured Roman at the top of the card are either looked at as the most watched (WM31) or The biggest WM ever (WM32, even though we know its not) in WWEs eyes?

Theres literally nothing in it for WWE not giving Roman the ball. They gave Punk a year plus title run and ratings still fell. Dnaiel Bryan was essentially the top babyface and ratings still fell. Seth, another indy favorite, got top billing since 2014 and ratings still fell.

So really, even if ratings fall with Roman, its not like theres anyone who is young on the roster who will stop the bleeding ratings from contiuing to free fall. They learned from Cena that fans are going to *****, but are still going to tune in.

As sad as it is to say, current WWE is a monster the IWC had a strong role in creating by them accepting WWEs ways with Cena . Its like letting a bully walk all over you. Since we allowed it once (Cena), theyre really going ti stick to their guns (Roman) until we fight back (stop supporting them financially).

Ok, this is something that has really be bothering me for a while now and needs to be said.

Everyone likes to think that they know what they want from wrestling. From those big promotions such as WWE, NXT and NJPW; to those smaller companies like ROH, TNA, LU; we the IWC have made it our livelihood trying to explain what wrestling should be. The problem now is, we've grown so big and so arrogant that a good majority of us think that our way is the best way and no other way can work or is 'problematic'.

For instance; someone wants well booked stories with relatable characters and a clear face/heel vibe, others want a grey/grey feel in their stories, someone else wants wrestlers who have impressive work rate to get bigger pushes, another wants big beefy men fighting for the title. Some like younger newer stars, some like older more seasoned veterans; charismatic but weak in the ring, bland but puts on daily MotNs.

In short, people in the IWC and in the wrestling business think they know what wrestling should be; but honestly, they don't. We don't. No one knows what the best wrestling is, of those promotions over the years; only two have come the closest. NJPW and WWE, and I'm pretty sure even they weren't confident that their plans for success would work out in the slightest.

Listen, I'm not going to defend everything WWE does; I think there are some stars that could use some better booking and there are some feuds I don't think should or have a reason to exist. But if you really are unhappy with the way WWE is being run, you have two choices; suck it up and hope things get better, or boycott the company. This means unsubscribing to the WWE network, not watching RAW or SmackDown; no PPVs, no merchandise, no NXT, not even WrestleMania. But let's be honest, there's no way that's ever going to happen unless if a lot of people came together and did so.

You want to make a change in wrestling? You make it happen. Stop complaining, and start doing something to fix the problem. Because unless if you don't, then i'm sorry to say it; but you're a part of the problem.

I very much agree with your "you think you can do it better? then DO it better" sentiments (it's why WCPW exists, after all!), and I'd like to address one of your points (the Older Guys Versus Younger Guys one) as well as throw in my 2 cents on 1 or 2 others.

It makes sense for people to want the older established guys, since those are the guys they grew up with, know best, and would have the most nostalgia for, but regardless of how people are split on that, it's a universal truth that the old guys NEED to help build the younger guys (even if not all of us WANT that).

In my own personal "stopped watching" thing, the only reason I only barely keep up with WWE at this point is because they took SmackDown off network TV in 2011 and made it cable-only (I don't have cable because I'm dirt poor), otherwise I'd at least be reasonably aware (through recaps) of what's going on company-wide.

I do try to make a point to watch the NXT TakeOver events, some WWE PPVs with specific matches, and a couple of the big NJPW shows (Wrestle Kingdom, and a couple of the other shows if there's some big thing that happens, like the Team 2000 reunion and Suzuki-Gun return at New Year's Dash!! the night after this year's WK).

WWE-wise, while I started out as a staunch Hogan-and-Warrior mark, I eventually evolved into a Savage fan, then a Bret fan, then a Hardyz-and-Lita fan, then singles-face Edge, then Angle-and-early-Cena (it was around here where I started to truly appreciate heel work and started to be a fan of heels as well as faces), Hurricane, and it was about plateaued until the indy darlings started to debut and I evolved into appreciating Punk, Bryan, and Wade Barrett (when I watched NXT Season 1, I immediately figured Wade would be a main-event star, except he became injury-prone <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> ), Miz when he won the WWE Title, then October 2011 happened and I lost touch with WWE except through online results and the occasional YouTube and DailyMotion match clip.

At this point, I'm mainly a fan of good matches (NXT does a TON of those, so I'm certainly not left wanting there) and seeing entertaining promos--Y2KO stuff, Punk's pipebombs a few years back, when Cena really puts his all into one (like when he and Rock were promoing against each other for their WM matches), Miz's recent super-passionate anti-Bryan stuff (also hearkening back to his promos as WWE Champion).

In terms of "boo overpushed Cena", I felt that way somewhere about late 2006 when it was becoming clear that he would get title matches and reigns for essentially no reason other than "Cena wins lol" (whereas we all felt his first few belts came about because he was a good in-ring guy with great charisma on the mic) and they'd stifle his in-ring work to the 5 Moves Of Doom.

While I eventually softened on any anti-Cena sentiment after seeing he could still put on great matches with people if the higher-ups just LET him, I was still a bit annoyed that while he's still good on the mic, the material is/was/whatever basically the same ol' lines.

That's (in my opinion) the main cause of a lot of lingering anti-Cena stuff--the feeling of "we KNOW you're better than THIS because we've SEEN it when you did THAT, so why are you still doing THIS instead of THAT?"--since it wasn't until the Rumble when they put the WWE belt back on John for the first time in a few years and the "Cena's champion again, lol" faded into the periphery.

In my own experience of "you can book it better? then do it", I certainly have made my own efforts in TEW/EWR and the couple of times I was in charge of running somebody else's efed, and I've made my own mistakes along the way, and the roads were bumpy, but other than backstage politics (there always is) in the efeds, I think I did a reasonably positive job in my efforts, and next time I start a TEW game, I'm gonna try to see if I can shake off my ring rust and do that again every so often (though I probably wouldn't be able to do a diary, due to various scheduling conflicts).

This was a lot longer than I'd thought it'd be. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I agree in a sense, and it doesn't just apply to WWE or wrestling. Complaining about certain aspects you don't like is fine, but if you have nothing positive to say about what you're watching, whether it be WWE or TNA or Game of Thrones or whatever, you probably shouldn't waste your time watching it.

That said, this is a forum populated by people who play a wrestling booking simulator, so I think a certain level of nit-picking and second-guessing of storylines, character development, creative decisions, etc. is to be expected. And honestly, I think the complaints and criticism are generally mild and reasonable here, especially in comparison to some other corners of the web.

Everyone just knew how that was gonna go down, but still a great Chamber match, definitely one of the better in recent years!

not the "main event" though, it'll most likely be the match that goes on right before Goldberg/Lesnar pretty sure that will be the main event that lasts about 2 minutes but with Lesnar winning instead..

If I can quickly go back to the whole idea of "do it better", if I can be perfectly candid about it, I would actually keep about 2/3rds of the current WWE match and angle booking roughly the same as it is/was, but I'd completely gut and replace the writer's room, because THAT'S where the REAL problems lie.

Elimination Chamber Review:

Becky vs Mickie - Good for their 1st singles match together but both are capable of better.

Crews & Kalisto vs Ziggler - Solid handicap match but Ziggler's still stale in the ring. The big problem though is the small midcard. They should break up Slater & Rhyno so they can wrestle solo and call up Dillinger.

Tag Team Turmoil - Fun match.

Nikki vs Natalya - Solid match and brawl. Nikki learning new moves to beat Natalya was a smart story so the non-finish hurt the match.

Orton vs Harper - Good match. Harper is still underrated. He does so much with a limited gimmick.

Naomi vs Bliss - Solid match with a botched finish from Alexa. Surprise result. A Fatal Fourway at Mania seems likely.

Elimination Chamber - Good match. Bray pinning Cena and AJ to win the title was huge. I like the new Chamber design. Not keen on the mats but the old grates were pretty brutal.

Verdict: Solid PPV. No bad matches but nothing really memorable outside of Bray being crowned Champion.

In my mind that is still one of the best in the series just for the fact it has GM Mode. Honestly that is how I found this site as I was trying to find out if one of the releases of Smackdown Vs. Raw (2010 maybe?) was going to bring it back. Then I discovered TEW and I dove down the rabbit hole for many years....because it did a great job of replacing the itch of wanting to actually wrestle.
