TNA's New Beginnings II

Recommended Posts

Nice roster that AAPW are assembling. Out of that lot I want them to give Low Ki the title.

Great show mate. I really just picked Dragon out of hope, my brain knew that Jarrett would probably retain. Can't say I mind too much though because I don't mind him at all.

TNA's second year starts and all three champions successfully defended at Slammiversary. As they head into the second year, what challenges face them ahead? Will Sid Vicious be granted his wish of getting Jeff Jarrett?

Chris Candido and Mike Sanders have had a growing rivalry in recent weeks. The two will face off tonight. Will Necro Butcher be at Sander's side?

A large box has been delivered to The Odeum for the show...

Tune into Sci Fi to see what develops.

Chris Candido v Mike Sanders

Sanders has pretty much owned this feud and seems to be gaining stature as a top heel (at least in the mid card ranks). Could expect bigger things from him - and Candido can be re-tooled later

'Cowboy' James Storm & Desmond Wolfe v Joel Maximo & Konnan

The LAX combo should have the edge in experience here against a makeshift team

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell v Super Crazy

now that Puffer seems safe from the ugly drug scandal, its time to get back on the winning track - and to find a new chapter in his story

Abyss v American Dragon

Ernest Miller & Sid Vicious v Shane Douglas & Steve Corino

no brainer to pick Sid here since he's getting the major title push - but think that could actually lead to his downfall - getting distracted by a Jarrett appearance and leaving Cat alone for a 2-on-1 beatdown. Shane / Cornino could be the start of something interesting

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Judas Mesias defeated Robert Roode in 7:25 by pinfall with a Frog Splash. The two displayed great chemistry. D+

Impact

Saturday, week 4, June 2003

The Odeum, Villa Park, IL.

Live on Sci Fi.

Eric Bischoff assembles the champions in the ring. He tells them that Hard Justice is TNA's next pay per view and to keep in the theme of the name, he has decided that each champion will defend their title in a hardcore match. He first addresses CM Punk and informs him that his opponent will be the winner of tonight's match between Mike Sanders and Chris Candido. He turns to Backstreet Boyz... they will face Full Blooded Italians which despite them not being liked brings an ECW chant from the crowd. Finally he looks at Jarrett and Bischoff tells him he has the ideal opponent for him... Ultimo Dragon. Jarrett is visably very pleased. C

As CM Punk is leaving, Harley Race appears. He tells Punk he has also booked a match for him, it will next week on Impact. To give fans a taster for Hard Justice, Punk will defend the X Division Championship in a hardcore match. C

A video plays recapping the Chris Candido versus Mike Sanders saga so far, with appearances from 'Everybody's Favourite' Necro Butcher. D-

Winner faces X Division Champion at Hard Justice

Chris Candido v Mike Sanders (with 'Everybody's Favourite' Necro Butcher)

A solid match and an acceptable one for the show's opener. Both men fought tooth and nail and dug deep as they looked to get themselves in the box seat to challenge CM Punk. Sanders looked to whip Candido into the ropes and Butcher moved into position to trip Candido. However, Candido reversed the whip and Butcher, not looking in the ring, tripped Sanders instead. Candido capitalised by moving quickly to the top rope in order to win in 8:46 by pinfall with a Top Rope Leg Drop. Sanders was not happy with Necro! D+

Alex Wright is backstage with Roger Bagwell. He is celebrating how his career is rising ever since coming into TNA and meeting Roger. Maybe someone should tell him he hasn't exactly done much yet... Anyway, Roger is in the spirit of things and the two share a bottle of rosé wine before Roger gives Alex a quick kiss on the lips! Alex grins like a schoolboy as the show goes to a commerical for a gay nightclub in Chicago. D-

Air Paris is walking backstage when he stops, almost as if he feels someone watching him. He looks around, doesn't see anyone, and so continues walking. E+

'Cowboy' James Storm & Desmond Wolfe v Joel Maximo & Konnan

Despite the partners being mixed up from the usual tag teams, this was still a good match which featured some good action although Wolfe seemed off his game. Both teams showed reasonable cohesiveness but the match descended into total anarchy when all the usual respective tag team partners ran into the ring and it became a four team brawl causing Rudy Charles to call the match to a conclusion in 6:57 following a double disqualification. Following the chaos, Harley Race appeared and decreed that America's Most Wanted face Spanish Announce Team and Pride of Britain face Latin American Exchange at Hard Justice in hardcore matches. C-

BG James is backstage where he cuts the crap and openly admits that it is he behind the gift boxes that Ken Shamrock has been receiving recently and that he will face him at Hard Justice where he will give himself the best present possible... eliminating Ken Shamrock from TNA. D

Shane Douglas and Steve Corino attack Sid Vicious backstage... only for Sid to fight back and run them off. C-

Eric Bischoff has Rick Steiner in his office. He says that he has an idea for a six man hardcore match at Hard Justice... and he needs to suitable fighters... and tells Steiner he fits the bill. As do Abyss... Vader... and Vampiro. The two others will be American Dragon and Super Crazy... oh and Steiner will face Vader next week on Impact in a hardcore match. Steiner looks like he is ready to throw Bischoff through the wall. C

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell) v Super Crazy

Despite Buff and Roger's recent marital issues, Buff seemed focused on this match even though his performance wasn't the best. Crazy couldn't capitalise and Buff took it (not up the bum) in 11:10 by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. D+

Air Paris is shown backstage, where officials have just found him bloody and unconscious, the apparent victim of a sneak attack. Paramedics appear to stretcher him out. E+

Abyss and Shane Douglas attack Super Crazy backstage, and leave him down and out. Seems a bit random... D-

Steve Corino has a microphone, and tears into Ernest Miller, telling him that he was easily beaten at Slammiversary and if they meet again, he will easily beat him again. D+

Abyss v American Dragon

A good big guy versus smaller guy match where although the old big man big moves little guy wrestlers with speed formula was used, it was used to fairly good effect. Dragon managed to hang on in there when Abyss did hit the power moves, but at the same time he gave Abyss one of the biggest tests he has had in his TNA tenure. The match couldn't seperate them as the bell rang on 15 minutes for a time limit draw. C-

Ken Shamrock is in the ring cutting a promo about how he will decimate BG James at Hard Justice when for a third time, a large box is wheeled to the ring. Shamrock shouts at the box, telling whomever is inside to come out and face him like a man. The box opens... and out comes So Cal Val in her skimpies!

http://oh-snap.us/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/238198759e9167340e4orq7fx6.jpg

Val starts dancing in front of Shamrock who is less than impressed... and even less so when Mike Sanders takes out Shamrock from behind with a steel chair. D

Harley Race is with American Dragon. He says he has a contract ready for Dragons to face Spanish Announce Team but that it hasn't been signed for two reasons. One is that the Maximos are stalling on the match and the second is that Dragon has been otherwise engaged in battling Jeff Jarrett. Dragon tells Race not to worry, the Maximos will "get theirs" in due time. C

Ernest Miller & Sid Vicious v Shane Douglas & Steve Corino

Tonight's main event was a little disappointing, mainly because the match lacked that killer spark and excitement. Sid was difficult to overcome whenever he was in the match and earned his team the victory in 11:52 when Sid Vicious defeated Steve Corino by pinfall with a Powerbomb. D+

Show rating: D+

A number of angles did not match the in ring action.

The show might have hurt TNA's popularity.

Impact preview

TNA has been rocked by the news that Jeff Jarrett's challenger at Hard Justice, Ultimo Dragon, has signed a contract with AJPW and will leave TNA in the next couple of days. This leaves TNA with a big problem with all other top stars already in matches at the next pay per view. What will be the response of Eric Bischoff and Harley Race?

While Sid Vicious is wanting to get his hands on Jeff Jarrett and a shot at the title, it seems a number of people are doing their utmost to stop him from doing so. Last week an attack from Shane Douglas and Steve Corino failed. Was it a one off or are they the main ones trying to stop Sid?

Ken Shamrock received a third gift from BG James last week, finally that time had the desired effect for James. Where will it end?

Watch the show on Sci Fi on Saturday night.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown defeated Jorge Estrada in 8:04 by pinfall with The Pounce. D

Impact

Saturday, week 1, July 2003

Reitz Arena, Baltimore, MD.

Live on Sci Fi.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring telling everybody on how he is going to enjoy a night off at Hard Justice. It is something he is due as TNA have wrestling greatness in the midst and every now and again greatness needs to have some time off.

Harley Race comes out and tells him not so fast. Race has found Jarrett a suitable opponent for Hard Justice and he also informs him that it won't be a hardcore match, it will instead be a submission match. Jarrett is livid. Race carries on... he says that CM Punk's opponent tonight will be Ultimo Dragon and it won't be a hardcore match... it will be a ladder match. C-

Chris Candido attacks Mike Sanders and Necro Butcher backstage with a kendo stick, and lays them both out. E

Austin Aries v Harry Smith

An average match between two of TNA's lesser lights but who have potential. While it was an acceptable for guys at their current level, it wasn't one to make people sit up and take notice. Smith won in 4:50 by submission with a Bulldog Bite. D

Super Crazy is seen lying face down in the backstage area, though it is not clear who did this to him or how. E

Rick Steiner is in the ring, cutting a promo on Abyss. Abyss appears on the screen, unamused. Demonstrating incredible strength, Abyss squeezes a basketball together with his bare hands. Unimpressed, Steiner vows to defeat Abyss and everybody else at Hard Justice. C

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRiB3FN2gJRGcqjrX9JpVyIxf_ONMJYS6njolUqVAKd5xFlALg&t=1&usg=__Ymjx-HkIqmZ_YjGG_ILj8HtWH34=

In the ring, and So Cal Val issues an apology to American Dragon for everything she and Spanish Announce Team have said and done over the past few weeks. It's hard to tell if there is real meaning behind her words, but the crowd applaud her for doing so. D+

OK, she didn't actually look like that in this segment, but I think it's got TFC going. :D

Alex Wright (with Roger Bagwell) v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell) v Desmond Wolfe v Devon Storm

Storm was disappointing here and never got into the match. Fortunately the other three did well and carried him through. Roger was torn between Alex and Buff who had a couple of arguments mid match over Roger and who he's with. When they both spilled out of the ring, Roger gave them both a helping hand back into the ring... via their asses. The end of a pretty good match came in 9:02 when Buff Bagwell defeated Devon Storm by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. C-

Ernest Miller gives Steve Corino a frenzied beatdown backstage and tells him he will get even at Hard Justice. D

CM Punk cuts a promo saying how he will rip apart Chris Candido at Hard Justice. He continues by saying that Candido may have been in ECW, but Punk will show him what straight edge extreme is all about. C-

Little Guido v Trent Acid

Despite a lack of psychology on show, this was a really good match with some great action and keen interest from the crowd. Two halves of the Tag Team Championship combatants fought tooth and nail with one half of the champions prevailing and gaining momentum in 9:22 by pinfall with a Yakuza Kick. C+

Vader and Vampiro attack Sid in the ring while he was cutting a promo on his match with Shane Douglas at Hard Justice. Sid is left down on the mat as Vampiro and Vader stand over him. C-

Mike Sanders comes to the ring and challenges Chris Candido to another match... he has revenge on his mind following what happened earlier. D

Spanish Announce Team attack 'Cowboy' James Storm backstage, throwing him through the locker room door and out into the corridor where they continue the beating. C

Hardcore Match

Rick Steiner v Vader

Disappointing and dare I say it... a tad boring. The previously hot crowd will have been cooled somewhat by this. Steiner takes it in 12:03 by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. D

Ken Shamrock has a microphone backstage. He says he will break BG James' ankle at Hard Justice for making him look like a fool. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

LADDER MATCH

CM Punk (champion) v Ultimo Dragon

A very good match and one which saw lots of ladder based action including a Dragon moonsault off the top of it. The end was equally spectacular when Punk did a suplex throw off the top of the ladder and Dragon fell all the way to the arena fall. Punk easily grabbed the belt and Dragon didn't move for a few minutes after the match. CM Punk makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. The crowd are chanting "Holy ****" as Impact goes off air. C+

Hard Justice is approaching and Jeff Jarrett's opponent is still not known. Will we be wiser after Impact?

Buff 'The Puff' and Roger Bagwell's marriage has been on the rocks of late following Alex Wright's arrival in TNA. All three are in the building for Impact and they say three is a crowd...

Sid has been under attack of late from many men, including Shane Douglas, Steve Corino, Vader and Vampiro. This has clearly distracted him from his ultimate target of Jeff Jarrett. Who will be after him tonight?

not much heat on the match, but the champs have delivered more times than not.

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

HARDCORE MATCH

CM Punk (champion) v Chris Candido (E+)

Ernest Miller v Steve Corino (D)

looking for Corino to break out some day soon - he's the type that can carry a couple feuds and even a show or 2.

'Everybody's Favourite' Necro Butcher v Devon Storm (F+)

so his matches have not been up to the usual TNA quality - maybe Necro just needs a few wins to gain a few fans in the live audience too.

BG James v Ken Shamrock (C-)

Sid Vicious v Shane Douglas (D+)

Sid continues on a collision course with Jarret

Alex Wright v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (E+)

several ways I can see this one going - Monty getting the win due to lack of communication between Roger's bois? Buff exerting his leadership skills and getting the win -- or Alex taking exception to Buff's demands and after the doubleteam beatdown and Bagwell covering for the win, Alex pulls him off by the trunks (maybe a full moon) and Wright steals the pinfall victory

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Jody Fleisch defeated EZ Money in 6:33 by pinfall with a Phoenix 720 DDT. D

Impact

Saturday, week 2, July 2003

Ector County Coliseum, Odessa, TX.

Live on Sci Fi.

Jeff Jarrett calls out Harley Race to start Impact and he demands to know who his opponent is in the submission match for his title tomorrow night. Race doesn't budge and tells Jarrett that he will find out when everybody else does... immediately before the match tomorrow. Jarrett is incensed as Race leaves the ring. C+

Roger Bagwell is in a locker room with husband Buff and Alex Wright. The three are all arguing over each other so it is difficult to tell what each is actually saying, until Roger shouts "STOP". Buff and Alex go quiet and Roger says that he is still in love with his husband. A disappointed Alex Wright shuffles off as Buff gives Roger a big man hug with touchy feely ass. D

Doug Williams v Hernandez

A tune up of sorts for tomorrow's tag team match between Latin American Exchange and Pride of Britain. Robert Brisko took action before the bell even rang as he pre-empted any potential trouble by sending Desmond Wolfe, Konnan and Jorge Estrada all to the back. This let a reasonable one on one match flow with Williams' European style and Hernandez's power game taking turns to be in the ascendancy. The finish saw Williams demonstrate some power of his own in 7:47 as he took the contest by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. D+

Desmond Wolfe is seen celebrating backstage at his partner's victory. D-

Joel Gertner interviews Chris Candido backstage who says he is looking forward to ending his feud with Mike Sanders... in fact he's looking forward to ending Mike Sanders full stop. E+

Travis Morton is then seen interviewing Paul London, who has the balls/guts/stupidity to say he will find himself a partner and face Abyss and Shane Douglas in a tag team match. E-

Johnny Kashmere v Tony Mamaluke

An OK match but this Impact needs lifting from somewhere. Apart from the opening Jarrett/Race segment it's been rather lacklustre. The tag team champions went two and zero over their challengers at Hard Justice, albeit in singles matches. Kashmere took a relatively straight forward victory in 8:54 by pinfall with a Cradle Breaker. D+

Joel Gertner is interviewing Ernest Miller backstage who challenges Steve Corino to make it an I Quit match at Hard Justice. D-

Rick Steiner is being attacked by Vader and Vampiro in the ring. Seeing the assault, Sid Vicious comes running in and fights them both off, saving Steiner from a serious beating. C-

America's Most Wanted (Storm & Roode) v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A disappointing match, not helped by a poor performance from Joel Maximo while it's clear Robert Roode has some way to go to reach the level required to make it to the upper levels of TNA. SAT took the match to set themselves up well for another match against AMW tomorrow night, winning in 11:30 when Jose Maximo defeated Robert Roode by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. D

Ken Shamrock talks about how he is going to extract a brutal and painful revenge on BG James for all the ridiculous shennanigans he has made him suffer over the past few weeks. C

Eric Bischoff has Rick Steiner in his office and he informs him that he will be the special guest referee for the six way match at Hard Justice as he wants a close up evaluation of whom is going to be a likely contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. C

Air Paris v Desmond Wolfe

Best match thus far, mainly because it featured the best and most exciting wrestling action. Wolfe gave as good as he got and had Paris in trouble a few times with his ground and pound submission/European hybrid style. The ex X Division champion pulled through though in 13:21 by pinfall by hooking the middle rope with his hand during a roll up. C-

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQPXQqu3V1zPGLuxk8zksoMsB4ERwGNB3whKaZF2zN9jD3Hbmw&t=1&usg=__kof83ucrodWrXf_43jNIkqe3A8E=

C+

CM Punk cuts a promo where he states that his title defense against Chris Candido will be an easy one as clearly Candido's focus lays elsewhere. C+

Super Crazy (with Midajah) v Vampiro

In itself it was OK but as a main event it was rather disappointing, much like most of the night, it didn't quite 'have it'. Vampiro continued his fine winning record since coming to TNA in 14:46 by pinfall with a Nail in the Coffin. D+

Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter run through the Hard Justice card, each speculating on who Jeff Jarrett's opponent will be before Impact goes off air. C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.
