News

Reports have surfaced that negotiations between Sci Fi and TNA regarding a contract extension for Impact have broken down. More news as this is confirmed or otherwise.

I saw this the other day, that sucks. I hope you find something else, now onto the picks:

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Rick Steiner

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Backstreet Boyz (champions) v Alex Wright & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell

I really want to go with Buff and Alex but I am not sure...

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: CM Punk (champion) v Doug Williams

Huge fan of Doug in real life, but even I am not dumb enough to pick him to get the win here.

Ernest Miller v Vampiro

I wish Ernest rated out better for you in matches because I would love to see The Cat get a nice push.

Chris Candido v Mike Sanders

Air Paris & Shane Douglas v Paul London & Super Crazy

Devon Storm, Harry Smith, Jody Fleisch & Mr Wrestling IV v Ring Wizards & Spanish Announce Team

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Robert Roode and 'Wildcat' Chris Harris defeated Full Blooded Italians in 9:30 when 'Wildcat' Chris Harris defeated Tony Mamaluke by pinfall with a Cat Attack. C-

Explosion

Sunday, week 1, August 2003

Montagne Center, Beaumont, TX.

Explosion opens with Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff talking backstage. Jarrett thanks Bischoff for all his efforts in holding Sid Vicious off him. Bischoff tells him it's nothing, he hates Sid too and doesn't even want him in TNA. C

Devon Storm, Harry Smith, Jody Fleisch & Mr Wrestling IV v Ring Wizards & Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A very good opening match that was choc full of action and suspense with the winner not looking likely throughout. One thing let it down... Mr Wrestling IV... again. Since his much fanfared and admittedly quite impressive debut, he's been very disappointing. In this one, he let his side down as he was the only one off the pace and dare one say, he even looked out of his depth at times. The victory came in 10:03 for Ring Wizards & SAT when Ken Anderson defeated Jody Fleisch by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. C

Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas are going at in the crowd, attacking each other near the seats and the concession stands, though strangely for two well respected wrestlers, nobody seems too bothered! E+

Air Paris & Shane Douglas v Paul London & Super Crazy (with Midajah)

Douglas is clearly feeling some effects of the brawl with Rick Steiner only moments ago and as a result Paris has to carry most of the match. He does an admirable job too, taking some spectacular offense to his not too bad themselves either opponents. Paris' pluckiness brings the win in 10:54 when Air Paris defeated Paul London by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C-

We go backstage again, where Harley Race is talking to Sid Vicious. He assures Sid that he brought him into TNA because he can bring great value to the company and he would be a more than worthy champion, no matter what Jarrett and Bischoff think. He tells Sid he has stroke around here, but it will take him some time to get him that title match. C-

Chris Candido v Mike Sanders

An intense battle in which both men look to settle their score with the other, and one that maintained the pleasing standard of the action so far. Sanders looked like he was getting the better of Candido only for the blonde haired gym freak to mount a comeback and take the battle in 11:39 by pinfall with a Top Rope Leg Drop. Candido stood in celebration afterwards in the ring. C-

Tenay, Don West and Potter hype the main event between Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Backstreet Boyz (champions) v Alex Wright & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell)

Another good quality match, this is turning out to be a solid show. The challengers worked well together despite their on/off differences and proved to be a stern test for the champions, who were worried on a few occasions that their titles were in jeopardy. They managed to pull through however in 9:40 when Trent Acid defeated Alex Wright by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. Backstreet Boyz make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C

Mr Wrestling IV has an interview where he rips into Mike Quackenbush, telling him he will give him a wrestling lesson at Victory Road. Unlike his match earlier, this went well. C

Ernest Miller v Vampiro

Worst match of the night so far, but that's not that bad a thing as it was still reasonable. Both men looked quite equal in the match, but Steve Corino couldn't keep his hands off Miller and he ran in on the match and took out Miller from behind with a stiff clubbing blow. Mickey Jay called for the bell in 11:30 and Vampiro was disqualified as Steve Corino ran in and attacked Ernest Miller. D+

CM Punk cuts a promo on Desmond Wolfe, telling him he will do whatever is necessary at Victory Road, and he will use his partner Doug Williams as an example of what he will do in their match tonight. C-

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQE9CKFi-1fRPQ5Abkfm451k4v-Jsajyljp6gdm8yUOOwQEHAk&t=1&usg=__XgxOjrvfLSRDqQzadvCKinvMTh4=

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Doug Williams

The best match (so far) of a decent night of action. This was one of TNA's best technical matches as both men used submissions, holds and counters to good effect and it showed in a quality match. Desmond Wolfe came to ringside and proved to be a distraction to CM Punk, but it didn't stop him ending up retaining the belt in 14:43 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage. CM Punk makes defence number 5 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Ken Shamrock cuts an interview backstage where he says he will end BG James at Victory Road. D-

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTOs3D0Hhu4O9mrFnGt-aH8bmNSsvFQDkk9vDc7mbZ9uMqEQyU&t=1&usg=__1zYVOQDdFU9RVFMMVh0xyJZ5kuY=

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Rick Steiner

Another good quality match, one to rival Punk v Williams and a fitting way to end the best TNA show in a good while. Steiner, although affected a little by his early brawl with Shane Douglas, gave Jarrett a lot of trouble. So much so that Steiner's problems with Douglas came to haunt him, as Douglas injected himself into the match while Rudy Charles was warning Jeff Jarrett for some misdemeanours of his own. This interference cost Steiner the chance of winning the title in 21:10 by pinfall with The Stroke following interference from Shane Douglas. Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 10 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. Jarrett celebrates with Douglas after the match. C+

Show rating: C

A number of the angles did not reach the standard of the wrestling action.

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 7874 (new TNA record)

Buy rate: 0.33

Profit: $91,554 (new TNA record)

The show rated as TNA's 5th best in it's history.

It had the 2nd highest buy rate in TNA's history.

<p>exciting giant profit from the small Xplosion ppv!!! you also seem to have found some interesting winning combos with some of the matches from that show. Now to keep that momentum going all the way to Victory Road (and maybe even turn a profit on one of the tv shows -- maybe the switch to Spike will help?) I'll go out on a limb and predict a new attendance record for Victory Road as I see a stable of matches with C or better heat...(miller-corino and tag titles should reach the C's by bell time)..and possible to even get the main event to a B heat rating (thinking Jarrett might be able to talk it up some? guess a lot depends on how OVER the Dragon is).</p><p> </p><p>

I'm trying to overcome some computer issues and will post some actual match predictions after I get caught up</p>

Olympia... I've not switched to Spike. :D

As for Danielson... he is very over in some regions, but not in others.

I have a great story lined up for Jarrett after Victory Road against somebody you won't expect, to tide him over until Sid shakes off Bischoff. As long as I write it well and follow it through anyway...

Impact preview

All three champions made tough title defences on Explosion. How will they react physically and mentally only eight days out from Victory Road?

Their challengers meanwhile had it relatively easy over recent weeks. They will be gearing up for the big event.

Eric Bischoff clearly has it in for Sid Vicious. Surely it's only a matter of time before the big man snaps...

Watch Sci Fi to see the action unfold.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Jody Fleisch defeated Necro Butcher in 7:01 by pinfall with a Phoenix 720 DDT. D+

Impact

Saturday, week 2, August 2003

Skyhawk Arena, Martin, TN.

Live on Sci Fi.

America's Most Wanted are backstage, discussing how great it felt to have been NWA TNA Tag Team champions before, how privileged they feel to be able to compete in TNA and how great it would be to become the champions again. B-

Austin Aries v Harry Smith

This was worse than the Necro Butcher warm up! To be fair to Aries and Smith, the action in ring itself was perfectly acceptable, it's just the crowd were totally dead and neither guy did anything to improve it. Smith took the win in 6:18 by submission with a Bulldog Bite. D

Rick Steiner is hyping his recent war and upcoming tag matches against Shane Douglas. Douglas interrupts Steiner and they have a scuffle that has to be seperated by half a dozen of TNA's security. C-

Steve Corino attacks Ernest Miller from behind, and starts beating the **** out of him. After what seems an eternity, Miller is left bloodied, and beaten. D

Ken Anderson v Super Crazy

This was an intriguing, tight match for the majority of it, until we had a visitor...

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ2Z7vvj05gg6aebc7P9_sJ7MdISIzfrI4KVXCnpHWSwhoueFI&t=1&usg=__zBu3cuevwlK1EqhWFhWGCYil0Us=

The big man came down to ringside. Anderson spotted him and immediately distracted Robert Brisko. Vader dragged Crazy out of the ring, hit him with a couple of stiff punches and powerbombed him on the arena floor. The win for Anderson was then academic in 8:56 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb following interference from Vader. D+

Ken Shamrock is backstage, holding a contract. He claims BG James has yet to sign the contract for their match at Victory Road because he is a "chicken ****". Shamrock warns James that if TNA management don't force him to sign the contract, he will. C-

Paul London is in the parking lot, when Air Paris runs out and attacks him, beating him down. C

Alex Wright & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell v America's Most Wanted (Harris & Storm, with Dawn Marie & Robert Roode)

An entertaining affair from bell to bell, especially with Wright and Bagwells' homosexual antics. For example, when James Storm crotched Buff Bagwell on the guard rail, Roger Bagwell came over and rubbed his crotch better. Backstreet Boyz made their presence felt when they came to ringside, took out Robert Roode and frightened Dawn Marie away. They waited for their spot and attacked AMW, which lead to Alex and Buff picking up the win in 8:47 when Buff Bagwell defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. The crowd showed their disapproval at Kashmere and Acid's actions... are they turning? C

Cameras are following Harley Race backstage when he walks across American Dragon and Jeff Jarrett almost come to blows. He waits for them to calm down and warns them that they are not to have any contact whatsoever prior to Victory Road unless it is in a sanctioned match. Should one of them do so, Jarrett will be stripped of his title and Dragon will lose his title match. Race walks away. C

Joel Gertner is interviewing CM Punk backstage, where he promises he will defeat Desmond Wolfe inside the steel cage at Victory Road. D+

American Dragon v Mike Sanders

A solid match and one where Dragon was looking good prior to his title match at Victory Road. Jarrett seemed to heed Race's warning as he was nowhere to be seen, and this enabled Dragon to concentrate on the task at hand. His victory came in 12:59 by submission with an Arms Across America. C-

Mr Wrestling IV cuts a promo saying he is wrestling's future. Well, he better improve then! C

Eric Bischoff is in his office. He says he will make Sid's life hell. He will make it so Sid cannot stand being in TNA and the sooner he quits the better. He goes as far as saying that when he suffered his horrific leg break, it was good for WCW! Crowd jeer loudly. C+

Air Paris & Shane Douglas v Paul London & Rick Steiner

A reasonable bout, but Paris put in an unusually poor performance. Both teams struggled to assert their authority on the match as it went to and fro. Ultimately, Rudy Charles ended up throwing the match out when both teams were simply all out brawling and Charles could not get control. It ended in a double disqualification in 14:47. C-

Show rating: C-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Paul London was used too much.

Attendance: 3894

TV rating: 0.68 (new TNA record)

Loss: $51,316

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v American Dragon (C heat)

Not sure Dragon is ready to carry TNA on top yet, but this match should help improve his status.

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS

Backstreet Boyz (champions) v America's Most Wanted (C-)

Backstreet have been great champs and given us some good matches. Seems like it's time to put the belts on flagship team one more time. AMW seems poised for a break with the introduction of Roode in their midst.

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

CAGE MATCH

CM Punk (champion) v Desmond Wolfe (C-)

NO DISQUALIFICATION

Ernest Miller v Steve Corino (D+)

Corino is a future star for your TNA

BG James v Ken Shamrock (D)

PAYBACK!!

Alex Wright & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Chris Candido (D)

Roger's boys have a victory over AMW and would a good challenger for them if they win the belts -- also had a good match with backseats. Their stock is on the rise

Sid Vicious v Vampiro (C-)

going with an off-the-wall upset here. Sid is on a collision course with champion Jarrett, but several roadblocks continue to delay him. By hook or by crook, vampiro pulls out a win to derail the Sid Express for another month or so while he takes care of this business. Where's Necro Butcher when you need him

Mike Quackenbush v Mr Wrestling IV (D-)

newcomer needs a win in what could be a good match

Devon Storm & Harry Smith v Spanish Announce Team (E+)

Air Paris, Shane Douglas & Vader v Paul London, Rick Steiner & Super Crazy (C-)

the heel team look to be a formidable threesome. I think as a stable they could become a big deal for you., after the current feud, you could have something with Miller, then maybe even programs with AMW or SID.

Impact preview

Tensions are mounting prior to Victory Road.

Harley Race has decreed Jeff Jarrett and American Dragon cannot get physical prior to their Victory Road encounter. You can bet Jarrett is eating up inside.

BG James has apparently not signed to face Ken Shamrock at the pay per view yet. Can Shamrock carry out his promise of making him sign the contract?

Backstreet Boyz got the better of America's Most Wanted last week. Will AMW return the favour?

Tune in, for the penultimate time, to Sci Fi to see Impact.
