TNA's New Beginnings II

Impact preview

TNA has changed it's website's homepage to one that simply states that there will be two major announcements made on Impact this week. The first is known, where Eric Bischoff reveals who Sid Vicious will be facing in his open challenge at Victory Road that Bischoff answered a few weeks back. The second is a complete mystery. Nothing has leaked out of TNA as to what it might be, but wild speculation has been spreading across all the news websites ranging from a buy out of TNA to which top WWE star is coming to TNA.

Tune into Spike TV on Saturday to see the major developments.

Live on Spike TV

Impact kicks off with Potter standing alone in the middle of the ring. Potter says that TNA management have asked him to address the TNA fans before the action starts tonight. Potter thanks the fans both in attendance and watching on television for all their continued support over the two plus years TNA has been in existance and appreciates their support in the future. He says that all contracts have been signed for matches both tonight and at Victory Road but he is about to make the first major announcement of this week's Impact show.

Potter pauses for a while as the crowd murmur with excitment...

ERIC BISCHOFF HAS WALKED OUT OF TNA.

There is a moment of silent shock. On commentary Mike Tenay says "My God" while the fans erupt into cheers as the announcement settles in. Once the crowd settle down, Potter has two last things to say. Firstly, he says that very soon TNA will announce who will replace Eric Bischoff in an adapted role of "TNA Director of Authority". Secondly, he addresses Sid Vicious and apologises to the big man, saying that Eric Bischoff has indeed signed somebody to face him tomorrow night at Victory Road, but he and the mystery man agreed to sign a non disclosure agreement so nobody knows his identity.

Potter leaves the ring as loud chatter is heard through the area. Mike Tenay can't believe what he has heard as Potter joins him on commentary for the show. C+

Chris Hero & Pride of Britain (United Kingdom) v Latin American Exchange (Mexico)

A match high on tension in the rubber match in the first quarter final to be decided. The slicker teamwork and under handed tactics shown by the Mexicans helped them to prevail and seal a semi final spot in 7:50 when Ultimo Guerrero defeated Chris Hero by pinfall with a Reverse Superplex. D+

UNITED KINGDOM 2 MEXICO 3

Evan Karagias is seen in a pre recorded segment stating his beliefs - drug free, alcohol free and lives to wrestle, saying he is a perfect fit for CM Punk's New Dawn. D+

EZ Money cuts a promo hyping himself as a big thing to come in TNA. D-

Little Guido (Italy) v Shawn Daivari (Iran)

Daivari let his himself, his team mates and his country down with a poor display which allowed Guido to get a comfortable victory and send Italy into a semi final with Mexico in 7:02 by pinfall with an Arriverderci. D+

ITALY 3 IRAN 1 - Italy face Mexico in the semi finals.

Ken Shamrock speaks from backstage where he states that he will snap Mr Wrestling IV's ankle tomorrow night at Victory Road. C-

Harley Race comes to the ring with his monster Abyss following him. Race proclaims Abyss as the biggest terror in TNA and come tomorrow night he will be the new NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion. CM Punk then rushes the ring carrying a steel chair. He smashes the chair straight into Abyss' skull which drops the big man. Race looks on in terror but Punk leaves the ring without uttering a word. C+

Arashi Assassins v Double X (with Francine)

A very good tag team contest and easily the most exciting action so far tonight. Neither team have had much of a run thus far in TNA but if they can build on what they showed here then they may well in the future. Double X took home the spoils in 8:36 when Rocky Romero defeated Keiji Sakoda by submission with a Diablo Armbar. C+

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell is looking angry in a very gay way. He is livid at Jorge Estrada for expressing such blinkered, discrimitive views last week and that he hates homosexuals. Buff says his partner "Big Dick" Monty Brown and The Godfather will slap some political correctness into him tomorrow night. C+

Mike Sanders was cutting a promo saying he was a far better man than Steve Corino when Corino interrupted and told him that everybody will see who the better man is tomorrow night. C-

Air Paris v The Amazing Red

Despite the contest drifting along at times it was mostly another entertaining affair between two of the quickest high fliers around. Red was looking good when the X Division Champion, 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels came to ringside. As Paris tied up Patrick Hernandez, Daniels entered the ring and hit Red with an Angels Wings. This allowed Paris to pick up a second straight win in 12:49 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C+

Eric's Army are backstage... though now Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas are not really Eric's Army any more now Eric Bischoff has walked out of TNA. They say they are shocked Bischoff has left, they had no idea he was going to abandon TNA with no notice. However, they are still intent on keeping the Tag Team Championship by finally disposing New Dawn once and for all tomorrow night. C

Similarly, Jeff Jarrett is equally shocked at Eric Bischoff's departure but he says that it allows him to focus on the running of TNA more closely, starting with getting rid of AJ Styles tomorrow night. C+

TNA TV TITLE

Mike Quackenbush (champion) v Jerry Lynn

Lynn looked dangerous and Quack's TV Title was in serious jeopardy throughout the match, but true to Quack's reign since winning the title just over a month ago, he managed to sneak another win. This time round it was due to interference from Bryan Danielson, who took out Lynn and allowed Quack to retain in 16:16 by pinfall with a Quackendriver. Mike Quackenbush makes defence number 5 of his TNA TV title. C-

Following the match, Sid strides to the ring. He is irate that Eric Bischoff answered his open challenge for Victory Road and then has deserted TNA. Sid demands answers from anybody who can provide them.

He gets them.

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQWRZwjDyCHVgFoItF-A35ivm1yfZH9zrHgyouTIGX8xN15dTAn

The crowd are in complete shock as Sean Waltman slides into the ring, armed with a steel chair. He cracks the chair across Sid's back and then drills him in his ribs a couple of times. He stands over him and says to Sid that "I'm your answer".

Potter is speechless on commentary while Mike Tenay is going ballistic, asking what the hell Sean Waltman is doing in TNA while he is under contract with WWE. Security rush the ring and bundle Waltman out as Impact ends in confusion and chaos. D

Now that I know who Sid is going to face I am having second thoughts about my pick. I am not a fan of either one but I will say that I am a fan of Sid if I had to choose between the two.

Also, it saddens me that Sid is not going to be facing the returning Necro Butcher.:D Maybe you can bring in Brodie Lee instead...

Mike Tenay and Potter welcome fans to a TNA in turmoil following the shock departure of Eric Bischoff and with TNA currently a rudderless ship, last night saw current WWE star Sean Waltman arrive to accept Sid Vicious' open challenge. Tenay does point out however that tonight's Victory Road pay per view will feature four title matches, starting with the opener.

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkjMbl6XFRWUAJqssaG5isR9jq-bTbQmiPXsRp5p41WwMrVs3t

TNA TV TITLE

Mike Quackenbush (champion) v Doug Williams

Many fans are calling Quackenbush a lucky champion, having scraped through four of his five title defences so far. Tonight, Quack's luck ran out as Williams out thought and out wrestled him and did not succumb to a quick move or an outside distraction or interference. Williams claims his first TNA gold in 8:25 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Doug Williams wins the TNA TV title. Solid opener to the show. C-

Prior to his match with Steve Corino, Mike Sanders is seen shaking his head at Quackenbush losing the TV Title. He vows that he will make amends for The Fringe when he defeats Steve Corino. E+

Mike Sanders v Steve Corino

A match not short on quality and Sanders fought particularly hard, feeling he has to personally avenge The Fringe's defeat earlier in the night. With the first two contests at Victory Road being solid affairs, one has a good feeling in the arena that the night is going to be a very good one in terms of action. While Sanders fought hard, Corino fought as much with his brain as with his body, avoiding Sanders more over zealous attempts to gain control of the match and it was Corino who had his arm raised by Robert Brisko in 12:19 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C

Sid Vicious speaks for the first time since knowing who he will be facing since he issued his open challenge. Sid says that very little shocks him at his age, but Sean Waltman coming from nowhere to accept has shocked him. He also says Waltman will pay for his sneak attack when he power bombs him through the canvas. C

Sid Vicious' Open Challenge

Sid Vicious v Sean Waltman

The match did not meet the hype, nor Waltman's explosive self introduction on Impact. People did watch in a mixture of disbelief, curiousity and with high interest at a current WWE roster member competing in a TNA ring, and Waltman had the early part of the match thanks to his speed and arsenal of kicks. Sid managed to over power him and hit some big moves, including a big boot, but Waltman was resilient and hung in there. He fought back using underhanded tactics and he won this way in 13:42 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage. Tenay and Potter expressed their dismay on commentary at a WWE star winning a match in TNA, while some of the crowd received it pretty well, perhaps thinking it might be a wake up call for some in TNA. Many are probably wondering what Vince McMahon is making of it all up in Connecticut. Might he be laughing at the start of a master plan or might he be blowing a gasket that one of his main roster members has made an Impact in TNA while still under contract in WWE? D+

Mr Wrestling IV speaks out against Ken Shamrock, saying he is not worried by "empty threats". C+

Ken Shamrock v Mr Wrestling IV

A match that saw some great action and perhaps some greater heat from the crowd than expected. Shamrock looked dangerous, clearly he is in a bit of a foul mood and is intent on hurting some people, and he had IV in pain a few times. Despite Shamrock having the lion's share of the match, Vampiro still made an appearance to attack Mr Wrestling IV at an opportune moment, highlighting the fact that the long running feud between the masked man and the mysterious man is not over. Shamrock took the match, though probably didn't need Vampiro's help anyway, in 13:29 by submission with an Ankle Lock. C

Harley Race speaks briefly, hyping up his "monstrous champion". C-

Bryan Danielson v Jerry Lynn

A match high in quality that lacked a little in crowd interest which was a pity as the match was better than the Shamrock v IV match previously. At times it was a technical masterclass, up there with some of the best in history, though it wasn't sustained throughout. Both men proved to be very tough to beat too, but Lynn came away with the scalp of a former World Champion in 18:04 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. C+

CM Punk responds to what Harley Race said. He said for Abyss to be a monstrous champion, he has to beat the champion and Punk is not going to give up the title without one hell of a fight. C

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRDBMSQ0_iTO7VvB3vnNp1PvZHbryqaECz942G_joAC98-E16CZHA

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels (champion) v The Amazing Red

As expected, the action was fast and furious, with the crowd firmly behind Red. He fought the good fight, fighting for honour and athleticism, though to be fair to Daniels, he would be a good fit in CM Punk's New Dawn also should he put his mind to it. He certainly put his mind into the title defence as he retained against Red in 14:02 by pinfall with a Last Rites. Christopher Daniels makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell is excited about tonight. Not only does he get to have a bit of both black and white muscle, he also gets the chance to teach Estrada the ways of the modern world "where we may be gay". C

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown, Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell & The Godfather v Latin American Exchange

Buff provided plenty of entertainment during the match. He rubbed up both Monty Brown and Hernandez during the match. Brown seems to have reached a point where he is not bothered about what Buff does as no matter what he does, Buff carries on doing it anyway, and it's not like he has grabbed his ****... yet..? Hernandez on the other hand took great exception and gave a Border Toss to Buff clean out of the ring. With Buff out of it, it came down to a two on three contest and the numbers of course benefitted LAX, who closed out the match in 11:11 when Hernandez defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown by pinfall with a Dominator. D+

Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas cut a short promo where they say it is time to finish off New Dawn once and for all. C-

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSS9x6o5E2HI2l1LroZ43KhcFZ9Y_YCIsWnkiWN8iF7KtdkgzSM

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Ernest Miller & Shane Douglas (champions) v New Dawn

Having had an entertaining feud and a good series of matches, sadly this was the worst match of them all and as a result it really suffered, with the crowd rapidly losing interest throughout. It's a pity as this feud has been one of the more interesting parts of TNA in recent weeks and all four men deserve it to end better. But it hasn't, and the champions retained and finally see off their young rivals in 15:49 when Ernest Miller defeated Jimmy Rave by pinfall with a Thrust Kick. Miller and Douglas make defence number 3 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. E

Jeff Jarrett speaks out one last time before his match with AJ Styles, saying he is going to set an example to all the young wrestlers about how a wrestler should go about his business. C

AJ Styles v Jeff Jarrett

A very good match. Jarrett shows his version of showing people how to go about business by cheating a lot, which got the crowd very much on his back and chanting "you're an *******". This just made Jarrett laugh. AJ gave Jarrett many problems though, with his exciting style near gaining him the win a few times. Jarrett cheated once too often though... for AJ, as his underhandedness earned him a superb win in 19:56 by pinfall roll up and using a handful of tights. C+

Mike Tenay and Potter run through the tale of the tape for the World Championship main event. D-

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQsCHSUEEaLUwteAuJvoeawCK7e29mOWY3tF_woa1s4ks-bhqN6Yg

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Abyss (with Harley Race)

A disappointing main event and one where Punk was below par. Abyss was like a monster, and Punk had trouble dealing with him for significant portions of the match, leaving the title in severe jeopardy. Punk rallied a couple of times but couldn't put the big man away.

Abyss then took the match outside and battered Punk. Punk was almost lifeless on the arena floor when Abyss reentered the ring. As Abyss was recovering in a corner, Patrick Hernandez finished the count on Punk, leading to a chorus of boos around the area and some chants of "this is bull****". Abyss defeated CM Punk in 18:03 when CM Punk was counted out. CM Punk keeps the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship, much to Abyss and Race's chagrin. Abyss closes Victory Road by taking out Punk via a Black Hole Slam. C-

Show rating: C-

The show might have hurt TNA's overall popularity.

Some of the angles didn't reach the standard of the ring action.

Attendance: 8428

Buy rate: 0.52

Profit: $141,825 (new TNA record)

Glad to see the Doug Williams match netted you a good grade. For the other readers that was my pick for the PPV contest.

good choice -- not a huge Williams fan, but he turned in a good match and maybe can help raise some match quality.

my pick may have to revolve around an old favorite on here.....hmmmm.....do I hear someone say something about Wildfire Tommy Rich???? Abdullah the butcher??? no wait, that sounded more distictly like The Necro Butcher

:D:cool:
