TNA's New Beginnings II

Impact preview

TNA is in chaos at the moment. Eric Bischoff walked out the day before the previous edition of Impact and two days before the Victory Road pay per view. Last week, acting under instruction, Potter announced that "soon" TNA will be appointing a "Director of Authority". Until that happens, TNA is a rudderless ship. Sean Waltman has invaded TNA while still under contract with WWE, accepted Sid Vicious' open challenge and duly beat him at Victory Road, while at the same event the previous strong looking NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, suffered quite a beating at the hands of Harley Race's monster, Abyss. Abyss is going to want Punk again and this time get the title.

Watch Spike TV on Saturday night to see if the mess gets messier or if some order is restored in TNA.

Not trying to copy Olympia but my picks just so happen to coincide with his picks:

I think its awesome you've kept this going so long a huge kudos to you as you seem to be enjoying it as much now as ever. No slowing down for this one in sight and I love it. I'm way too far behind to predict but I wanted to give this a big amount of praise!

Thanks very much. Most kind.

Edit: If things go my way in the game, I'm on the verge of starting the biggest (and possibly longest) storyline and dare I say it, one of the biggest on this forum.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Divine Storm defeated Big Vito and Tracy Smothers in 5:54 when Quiet Storm defeated Big Vito by pinfall. D-

Impact

Saturday, week 4, August 2004

Binghampton University Events Center, Binghampton, NY.

Fans cheer as Impact kicks off with Dusty Rhodes walking to the ring to some god awful entrance music. If I wasn't crap at music I could write better.

Anyway, Rhodes gets on the mic and tells the fans and everybody who is listening that the chaos in TNA stops right now. TNA have acted and they have acted quickly and Rhodes says that he has been appointed the new Director of Authority to restore order following the departure "and quite frankly the poor job done by Eric Bischoff".

More cheers and Potter and Mike Tenay welcome this news on commentary.

Rhodes goes on to say that he has already signed matches for No Surrender which is in just eight days time but more immediately, he has to address the biggest issue in TNA and essentially American wrestling at the moment and that is poor TV ratings. Rhodes calls out CM Punk and the reigning World Champion makes his entrance.

Rhodes tells Punk that he is TNA's most valued asset currently. He tells him he thinks "his ethics are what everybody should follow" and he needs him to boost the ratings. He asks Punk if he is on board. Punk looks mild impressed and gratified and mutters a "sure". Rhodes says he has pencilled him to defend his World Championship over the next two weeks against the current Tag Team Champions, first Ernest Miller and then Shane Douglas. Punk agrees before saying he will redeem himself against Abyss at No Surrender. C-

Mr Wrestling is backstage where he challenges Vampiro to meet one last time to end it once and for all. D

Latin American Exchange v Brits Abroad & Pac

A reasonable opening match where Estrada underperformed. With the pride of representing their country and wanting to progress in the inaugral Nations Cup, all six men fought hard but at the same time with some nervousness at not wanting to make a mistake or be the one who lost the match. As the match wore on, the more experienced trio of LAX took more and more control and took the rubber match in 5:36 when Jorge Estrada defeated Chris Hero by pinfall with a Hola from Mexico. D+

Mexico win 3-2 and face Italy in the Semi Finals

Full Blooded Italians are backstage when they come across the Tag Team Champions, Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas. They say they want and deserve a second chance at the Tag Team Championship given they are the best challengers right now. Miller and Douglas confer and Douglas says they don't deserve one... but will give them one on Explosion "because it will be fun beating them again". C-

A music video is shown to promote Johnny Kashmere. C

Steve Corino makes his way to the ring and challenges Ken Shamrock to a match at No Surrender. Shamrock comes out and accepts, saying Corino will be another stepping stone on his way back up to the top. C-

Mike Sanders v The Amazing Red

A very good contest that saw periods of technical wrestling and aerial action. Red has looked very good in recent weeks since losing the X Division Championship without getting the results, and sadly for him and the fans tonight was no different at Sanders overcame him in 7:40 by pinfall with a 3.0 after a distraction from Mike Quackenbush. C+

Sean Waltman was speaking from backstage, saying his win over Sid Vicious showed that the wrestlers in the WWE are far superior than the "useless idiots in TNA". This draws a ton of heat which changes to cheers as Sid arrives and towers of Waltman. Sid hisses loudly, very angry at Waltman, and tells him to turn up at No Surrender where this time Sid knows that he will be facing Waltman and can "kick his head clean off". D-

Camera cut to the parking lot where security are preventing New Dawn and AK-47 from fighting with each other. The two teams are sweaty and angry, so clearly they were fighting beforehand. C

TNA TV TITLE

Doug Williams (champion) v Jose Maximo (with So Cal Val)

Williams' first defence is against a former TV Champion who's TNA career took off when Joel Maximo left and he won the belt. The two put on an impressive match despite not showing a great deal of in ring pschology. Williams made a successful first defence in 8:35 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Doug Williams makes defence number 1 of his TNA TV title. C+

Masato Tanaka is in the ring following a commerical break. Tanaka speaks in good English and challenges Christopher Daniels to put his X Division Championship on the line on Explosion this coming week. Daniels accepts Tanaka's challenge. D+

Bryan Danielson is cutting a promo on AJ Styles, where Danielson says he is the better all round wrestler. Styles interrupts Danielson and argues his case. Dusty Rhodes interrupts the two of them and tells them to prove it... as they will face each other at No Surrender. The crowd go nuts at this prospect. C

Jerry Lynn v Ken Shamrock

Some great crowd heat in this one which was of good quality but perhaps not as good as the two are capable of. None the less, it was a decent match and would have kept up interest in TV land. Shamrock edged the match and prevailed in 13:03 by submission with an Ankle Lock. C+

Harley Race is in the depths of the building with Abyss. Race expresses his delight that Abyss has a deserved rematch for the World Championship at No Surrender and this time Abyss will finish the job... destroy CM Punk and take his title. C+

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell and Jorge Estrada are backstage having a heated arguement over the rights and wrongs of homosexuality. Buff says he is proud to be gay and his relationship with 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown has been the happiest time of his life. He says that Hernandez is a prime piece of beef too and would be very happy having a bit of spicy muscle to go with his big black muscle. Estrada tells Buff that he makes him feel sick. C

Jeff Jarrett is backstage shouting at the TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes. Jarrett says it is complete bull**** that Rhodes has been appointed Director of Authority and he has had no say in the matter at all. Rhodes says that's just too bad, as Rhodes has made a match No Surrender where Jeff Jarrett will face Desmond Wolfe... and if Jarrett loses then he will never be on TNA TV again. Jarrett goes nuts. Rhodes finds it funny and says "slapnuts". Jarrett slams the door on his way out. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Ernest Miller (with Shane Douglas)

Before the opening bell, Dusty Rhodes came out and told Shane Douglas to go to the back as he is barred from ringside. Douglas at first refused but when Rhodes threatened to take away his title shot next week should Punk still be champion, he complied. The match itself was a worthy main event and one where Miller impressed and was close to becoming a dual champion. Punk defended his title with vigour and came through in 16:31 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 7 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C+

Show rating: C

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

A number of angles did not reach the standard of the in ring action.

Attendance: 3375

TV rating: 0.76

Loss: $59,769

Impact was the seventh best show in TNA's history.

Is the PPV official? If so I will just delete this comment and put my picks in this post.

Yes, it's a quick turnaround so to speak. As I have six weeks prior to Bound for Glory, there are only two before No Surrender. The card posted will be final, or very close to.

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Abyss (C- heat)

You've given Abyss a solid push to get to this point. I'd like to see what he could do with the title - after all, Punk has been put on notice about faltering ratings and maybe Abyss can give them a boost

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Ernest Miller & Shane Douglas (champions) v America's Most Wanted ('Cowboy' James Storm & 'Wildcat' Chris Harris) (D)

your best tag team. no more Eric's team since he is gone - could even see these 2 split up and feud over who is the new leader of that fractured faction.

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels (champion) v Mr Wrestling IV (D)

would be nice to see the new kid win a title, but he's struggled in the Vampiro feud

Ken Shamrock v Steve Corino (C-)

small chance I know - but Cornio has endured a lot in the past few months and a win over Shamrock would reward that effort. besides, if Abyss did win gold who better than arch rival Corino to provide a first challenge?

Sean Waltman v Sid Vicious (D)

Sid's turn - squash the midget like a bug.

I may be getting ahead of myself thinking there will be other defects - but in the current state of chaos in WWE there's no harm in dreaming.

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell v Latin American Exchange (Hernandez & Jorge Estrada) (D)

The Buff charm is starting to rub off on Monty making him a more interesting character than ever before.

IF JEFF JARRETT LOSES HE IS OFF TNA TV

Desmond Wolfe v Jeff Jarrett (D)

while we may like to see that, you seriously need Jarrett to help drive the ratings. He almost single-handedly help carry the little B show you had in a prior thread

Jerry Lynn v Mike Sanders (D+)

let Sanders and his little winning streak continue

AK-47 (Austin Aries & Kid Kash) v New Dawn (Caprice Coleman & Jimmy Rave) (D)

ak-47 has started to gel and a win here would help them make a name for themselves.

AJ Styles v Bryan Danielson (D+)

AJ is the home-grown product. Could be a 5-star match and could go either way. Personally, not a fan when a promotion chooses to bury their own guys when they bring in an outside star. Nothing wrong with giving them a win in the feud, but the things TNA and WCW both did made me sick. Here's your chance to help my nausea a little.
