Memoirs of a Booker

Recommended Posts

*Yuu kept doing the job that was hers and hers alone. 'The Book' rest in her bag. That fact alone kept her honest... she would not disrespect the tradition that it did represent. It did not matter what her dreams did say. The rifts would not mend, it did seem.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

"Reflections."

*When Yuu was still young and under wings. It was the closing days of the Golden Age. Sensational Ogiwara went out like a brilliant star and brought the curtain down upon it. Yuu had booked the final year, her first year as the outsider. All the Joshi Federations had finally fallen until only 5SSW remained... the envy. The Lizard Queen had been vicious and more than thorough to people she had once called friends... to people that had given, her very start.*

"It's a rotten business, Yuu. Ask any owner you meet during your time here. They will tell you the same thing or else they will be closed before you have a chance to meet them again."

*Yuu herself had been fires a year after that.*

"Return."

*She was a Joshi boomerang, throw her hard enough and she would come back with equal force... some strange mis-wiring most likely from her mother's side. But returned Yuu had, and brought 5SSW back from Kinki oblivion to the gates of the tri-money regions: Kanto, Hokkaido and Kinki. But the cracks had begun to show again, it was the nature of things. Sakurako Kagawa had to be #1, even in her own company. Especially in her own company.*

"So strange."

*Yuu required nothing from it. All she wanted to do was connect the lines and watch them unfold for the nights and nights and time. But something about Yuu drew attention, no matter how low in the mud and Earth she swam. The internet sang her song. The wrestler's called her 'The Oracle' and soon the Lizard Queen was bruised of ego and attention turned by to Yuu. Yuu and her many faults indeed... all true.*

"Guilty."

*Like any cycle, each return brought friction. It is human nature to break free and as Yuu re-signed and acquired talent, she could feel the circle's boarder in her mind. It bent with the force, but held her in.*

"Truth."

*The last words of The Lizard Queen still held her in grips and fingers tight. "... without me in this business to keep you on track? You would be a mess, and we would never hear from you again." To never be heard... was that not her greatest fear exactly? It made her the 'sangry' of emotions... sad that it was truth. Angry that the Lizard Queen played her so easily still.*

"Sangry."

*That was not a good place to build upon. It was bad Earth indeed and that was what she exhaled. No, if she did build upon anything at all it would be the past and the future, yes?*

"The present belongs to her."

*Yuu looked out the window at voiceless faces in a stream, passing on the street. Her own fears surfaced again, then quieted to calming ways. She closed her eyes to them and thought about the lines and ways. What banner would she raise if she did the unthinking thing? She knew the shape exactly... she only did not know where it lay and buried.*

"Shh."

*The lines would surely guide her.*

Don't Shoot The Lizard Queen

Date: Week 3, October, 2010

JoshiJoshiJoshi.com is thrilled to announce an upcoming interview with none other than 5SSW's owner: Sakurako Kagawa. No question is off limits as we bask in her royal presence. She has literally done it all: from the ring to the microphone and then the very throne. While Richard Eisen, Tommy Cornell and Sam Strong play Global Thermonuclear War: Part 27 in America... Kagawa has built her Queendom on the ashes on her one time competitors. There were no survivors and that was not by chance.

With 30 minutes at our disposal we will turn over every rock we can think of and let her tell the herstory, because it is always written best by the victor. From JWW to 5SSW. From the ring to the throne. From 'The Magic Three' of the 'Golden Era' to the fall and resurrection again. Oh, and your 321 questions on the status of her and Yuu Onuki, plus everything else we didn't feel like typing here. Trust us, if you're a fan of Joshi Puroresu? Then you will not want to miss this exclusive event.

Hope everything's OK, Yuu -- hate to see this slip past Page 3. Looking forward to more joshi goodness! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I have restored the game with its success. If not myself.

It is good news.

The lost yellow pieces of paper are still lost and forever.

I will pick up a line and continue quite of shortly.

The Lizard Queen interview may be boiled down to essence because I can not type it again. But it was amazing, I am sure :p

I am thinking of doing a review style for the lost month of match notes and that should get us back on the lines that are rushing for Yuu.

Duck!

May I Have Another?

Date: October, Week 3, 2010

5SSW has signed Sakura Sada, Yoko Ikina and Joanne Rodriguez to short term deals for their upcoming tour that is set to begin in December. Along with Ochiyo Iijima last week, that makes 4 additions in the wake of Fuyuko Higa and Ikuko Temko's departures from the company.

Website activity??

Date: October, Week 3, 2010

The 5SSW website has recently added a small video player to its main page with the announcement that a message from Sakurako Kagawa is soon to follow. It looks like something royal this way comes as well.

*The right hand corner of the modest 5SSW web site had blinked a steady advertisement of a 'Special Video Announcement' for several weeks. The days grew fewer and fewer between until a Youtube-esque display replaced the add. It was a simple display for a simple message... the face of the 5SSW owner, Sakurako Kagawa, looked up into the camera and smiled through her ice blue shaded lips.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWnews/SakurakoKagawa.jpg

"Have you missed us?"

*The Lizard Queen settled back into her chair, and away from the camera. A relaxed pose, with both arms resting on the arm rests. The low tech lighting accentuate the swirls of dark blue that ran through her mostly black attire.*

"The end of 2010 is upon us, and it is tempting to wind things down and sail quietly into the new."

*She paused for a moment in consideration.*

"Tempting, yes and some may even call it human nature. But hardly satisfying. Hardly a way to end such an "interesting" year in 5SSW, wouldn't you agree?"

*The Lizard Queen folded her hands over her lap, elbows still resting.*

"That is why I have ordered the opening of Coronation Road, 2010. A tournament open to every woman on the roster, and performed for every fan we have. In one month, twenty seven matches will unfold until there is only one left standing."

*The Lizard Queen held up a single finger.*

"That one woman will be awarded The 5SSW Empress Cup and will face the World Champion, DEVIL Karube, at our year end show 'Goddess Save The Empress'." If the World Champion herself wins? Then she will not have to defend her title at all. She will start the new year of 2011 as the World Champion, guaranteed."

*She lowered her finger and folded her hands back in her lap.*

"We all know how important beginnings are in life. They set the themes we live by. And I? I have just given the women of 5SSW something to fight for. So says The Lizard Queen, then so it shall be."

*With that the shot fades away into blackness, ready for a re-play until the word had been spread.*

<p><span style="color:#630192;">*The Lizard Queen had the spotlight, the words from her mouth with ease and character. On Yuu's laptop monitor, the interview with the Lizard Queen from joshijoshijoshi.com sat half read. It was a grandiose piece of history from the side of victory. Not just Japanese tradition which is incredibly stifling to an individual woman like myself. But more so the business and Puroresu tradition that had become rigid, corrupted and set. When my in-ring career ended in 1984, all three traditions came crashing down on me. In Puroresu it works like this: you fight, you retire, you hang on like a parasite until someone above you dies. You then repeat that final step until you or the company dies. I was 28 years old, that was a lot of repeating for a woman who still had the young heart of a fighter. So I fought back with everything I had, from the color of my lips to the way I do my business. </span></span></p><p><span style="color:#630192;"><span style="color:#0000FF;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="color:#630192;"><span style="color:#0000FF;"> Tradition said I should have taken the 'pity job' JWW offered me, but I told them I wanted a chair at the top. Tradition then said I should hire a male figurehead for my company to be successful, but I put my face out there instead and watched my company grow. As time went on, Tradition said I should start to fill my company with retired wrestlers and loyal soldiers, but my Headbooker has never set a foot in a ring. My positions are filled with only skill in mind, not loyalty. You see, Tradition is the worst kind of idiot, a dangerous one. Even today I can not turn my back on it or it will creep inside and destroy what I have done... What? don't even get me started about family. I'll leave that to the Americans."</span></span></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#630192;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#630192;"> </span><span style="color:#630192;"><span style="color:#FF8C00;"><strong><span style="font-size:8px;">"Tradition."</span></strong></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#630192;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#630192;"> *It was not the first time that line had made itself known, as Yuu finalized the first part of round 1. HEART Saitoh vs. Tomoko Nagatsuka

Not familiar with Nagatsuka, which means HEART is more likely to advance

DEVIL Karube vs. Sakura Sada

squash

Dragon Assassin vs. Yukiko Matsumara

squash 2

Ochiyo Iijima vs. Saori Nakadan

Spike for the spacegirl

Ginko Kuroda vs. Otsune Tsumura

Ginko might do well in this tournament next year, but Tsumura will advance.

Chiyeko Kita vs. Rei Chikanatsu

Going with the mild upset here

Chitose Ariwara vs. Etsuko Arihyoshi

Possible upset here also as Arihyoshi could win, but I am going with Chitose's wings to flutter to the next round

Coronation Road 2010: Empress Cup Tournament

Round 1: Group A:

Week 1, December, 2010

This will be interesting to pick. After all, these are the preliminary rounds.

HEART Saitoh vs. Tomoko Nagatsuka

DEVIL Karube vs. Sakura Sada

Karube-san is one of my favorites. Has been for a long time.

Dragon Assassin vs. Yukiko Matsumara

Just a hunch here...

Ochiyo Iijima vs. Saori Nakadan

Always Nakadan, it seems.

Ginko Kuroda vs. Otsune Tsumura

Not quite Ginko's time yet, I think.

Chiyeko Kita vs. Rei Chikanatsu

I like Rei. I really do. But Kita will take this.

Chitose Ariwara vs. Etsuko Arihyoshi

Chitose seems set for bigger things.

*It is a reminder that I did loose all of my notes for December. I will try a different format to cover my information crash. Thank you for coming along again. :)*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEW/5SSWlogo_alt1.jpg

5SSW Coronation Road: 12.01.2010

*The proverbial and dust had settled around the ring with lights dimmed. The mighty and loyal volunteer group of the local High School put away chairs and chatted in bird like bursts of what they had seen... many boys quietly smitten, many girls with secret heroines that were strong instead empty and beautiful. On a raised section that one could call a broadcast area, the announcing crew plus a couple of guests talked about what they had just see and heard.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWroster75/KuniyoshiChishuconv.jpg

"What a night we have had as Coronation Road is officially opened. Any surprises tonight, Katsuhiko?"

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWroster75/KatsuhikoShunsenconv.jpg

"How about our two surprise guests? Joshi Puroresu legend, Sensational Ogiwara and the woman who made this all possible, Sakurako Kagawa."

*Sensational Ogiwara nodded her head in greetings as she adjust her headset.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWnews/SakurakoKagawa.jpg

"Good evening gentlemen, it's a pleasure to be sitting with you two finally. It bring backs many memories of my years behind the microphone."

"You called some of the greatest matches between Sensational Ogiwara and Crusher Ichihara. How did tonight measure up?"

"I think tonight you saw the future of Joshi Puroresu. It was a very young card with a real diversity of styles meeting. Plus we had three debuts? It was a very exciting evening."

*Sensational Ogiwara nodded in agreement.*

"Ogiwara-san, you see these women up close almost everyday in your role as Rad Agent. Was there one match that caught your attention tonight?"

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingSensational.jpg

"I though the match-up between Chitose and Etsuko really closed out the show well. If you are following DEVIL and Saori? That's a lot of pressure. I think they carried it and gave us an exciting fight. We all know Chitose can fly, but Etsuko really went toe to toe with her. I thought she was going to take it. She may be off the Coronation Road, but watch her next year."

"Kagawa-san?"

"I really enjoyed the debut of Ochiyo Iijima against Saori. I thought she carried herself very well. She has an exciting look and a unique style. We all know what Saori can do in the ring, but I kept finding myself watching Ochiyo over and over again. I think, much like Etsuko, she will be one to watch once she gets her feet under her here in 5SSW."

"Katsuhiko, there weren't any real upsets tonight. Would you agree?"

"Just as our two 'guests' said, there were some close matches and some interesting match-ups. But no, Sakura Sada did not defeat the World Champion in her debut. While both Chitose and Saori were able to hold on against some impressive offense."

"What impressed me the most about tonight is how strong the entire card was from top to bottom. With so many new faces and new match-ups on one show, I thought it spoke well of the talent we have here in 5SSW"

"That's exactly it Kuniyoshi. That is what Coronation Road is all about. This is the one event each year where it doesn't matter what your name or your history is. The feuds. The titles. The contracts. All of it is meaningless on Coronation Road. I'm proud that all of these women have risen to the challenge so far."

"So far is right, next week it's Group B with more guests, more debuts and more match-ups we haven't seen before. So make sure you have us bookmarked, because we'll be streaming live again from the internet. See you then!"

*From the floor, Yuu watched the group disband with smiles and chatting. She returned to folding chairs and stacking them side by side again.*

"Fire Fly" Yori Toyoshima has left 5SSW due to contract expiry. The 32 year old high flier never really got off the ground in her latest run. <strong>Noodleshop:</strong> <em>Congratulations to Astil and Ampulator. It is now that you can not spell Joshi without the double A. It is good to be running again. I thought it was all lost, now it is only somethings. Photoshop is gone, no more pretty posters. It's okay, I liked them but I can let go. The lost notes and writings always annoying me, I do not write well second times because the lines have already moved on without me. D+ show, but it is opening round. It should get better. I think I will focus only on tournament matches for write-ups and will continue post-match style through December.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

It is big decision time for the world of Yuu. Her end of year review is all but now and here. Will she stay with 5SSW another year, so much more to do and be? Or will she finally break the cycle of endless and strike out on her own? Under the eyes of the Lizard Queen no more..?</em></p>

*Yuu's modest and humble home remained unchanged much through the year that had been... only the air had changed from the seasons outside. But recently papers began to appear that were not her customary yellow. Lines of kanji spilled across officious looking print. A medium leveled finance company in Tokyo that specialized in liquidations and holdings. Yellow paper filled with her own enemy, endless numbers. She had to overcome them, even if the thoughts never came to pass. If they did? She would have to destroy her fears, just as The Lizard Queen had before her. On the phone, she listened to the voice of non-conviction. It was her turn to speak.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

"Now it is nothing, yes? It is dust of forgotten clocks. If I fail the machine that is? You loose almost nothing it is my thoughtful turn."

*There mas a momentary pause on the other side.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/bankimages.jpg

"That's not entirely true Ms. Onuki. While it may not be much these days. It does generate a modicum of profit in its current state, as you have seen from numbers I sent you last week. That is partly based on an image that is frozen in a positive sense. We are not convinced one way or the other that risking that status is wise."

*Words that Yuu did not want to hear, a stifled cough of dry conditioner air.*

"If this and I are of that line, Mr. Mitsuhara then it will be brief and forgotten before it is even started. It is a shortest gamble and erased with ease again. In one year, they will forget I was even here or a part of it. The past is always secure and guarded, no? But if the line is not that, then the numbers will fall upon you..."

*Yuu got lost in her own words, and muddle expressed passion. A passion that she hoped was expressed to the world of business and ice.*

"in a positive sense, it is of course."

"Your argument isn't without some merit, Ms. Onuki. We have your application, and you can expect a reply next week."

"Time."

*Yuu gritted her teeth, another week of uncertain times.*

"Excuse me?"

"A week, it is time. I shall be of the waiting."

*Time was pushing Yuu around like paper dolls. Time was forcing her hand and soon.*

*In Yuu's apartment and upon her laptop, the face of a Legend filled the flash player on the 5SSW website. It brought a smile to the faces of long time fans. Sensational Ogiwara looked like she could step between the ropes at any given time. Her body remained in top form, and her eyes still retained their hunter cut. She smiled into the camera before beginning.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingSensational.jpg

"It is my extreme pleasure to announce Group B of Round 1 as we travel down Coronation Road towards the Empress Cup together."

*Ogiwara paused before continuing.*

"Last week 14 women entered the ring, and 7 of them were retired from the road. This week a fresh group will face the same stretch of road, and 7 more will be retired. Will it be crowd favorite, Yuma Maruya? Or will Yoko Ikina stun 5SSW in her debut? There is only one way to find out and that is to join us on the road."

*Sensational Ogiwara bowed, and the scene faded away from Yuu Onuki's laptop. Umeko, who had done a petty good job of ignoring the entire thing from the floor cushions, dog eared the page she was reading from Out by Natsuo Kirino. She looked over to Yuu, for some kind of reaction on any of the obvious levels. But Yuu remained hunched over the usual collection of papers that seemed to have grown over the last week.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingUmekoHotta.jpg

*Umeko inquired with an inquisitive brow.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

"It is something you are requiring?"

*Yuu did not look up from her papers as Umeko thought about the question quite sincerely.*

"Actually, yes. I think I do require it."

*Umeko laid the book in her lap, studying Yuu's arched and studious back... which moved as she sighed and finally straightened up. Her eyes looked tired of rings and black, but her voice did not match the appearance.*

"She should have done it and quite of more with her, no? The face that is Ogiwara? It has a meaning and voices to many and people too. My face has no such picture. My voice... it is in no memory. Should I cry for this?"

*Yuu returned a question back. She knew Umeko was looking for some emotion and response to the fact that Sensational Ogiwara had been on camera not once, but twice now.*

"The life, it is of a hand."

*She added quietly as a fact. Umeko, felt the line of sadness and resignation within the words. But herself? She felt annoyed and irritated by it all. She felt Yuu deserved better than she was getting. She felt the Lizard Queen was better than was serving. She looked back up to Yuu, who was now smiling with that certain kindness she posessed.*

"It is still a life, yes?"

*Yuu turned back to her papers and Umeko back to her book. Yuu's laptop auto-refreshed and the next card was displayed in its proper internet place.*
