Just as I said within my USPW diary, I want to thank everyone for the comments to my questions that I posed. It definitely seems like streamlined matches are the way to go. Though for the pay-per-view events, I can definitely see going with the longer match reports simply to differentiate them from the tv shows. NWA Power Hour gets just the in-game stuff, World Championship Wrestling gets more of a writeup and the pay-per-views get the longest writeups. I still haven't made a decision on the cheat code within the diary. That is something I have to give more real thought to.

Again, not to single anyone out, per se but I did want to mention that some of Greg McNeish's comments about the last pay-per-view Halloween Havoc made me rethink some things and take things in a new direction than I might have otherwise. It is just one example of how your comments can truly have an effect on the story in a positive manner. That is definitely one way that your comments can drive how not just this diary but any diary operates. Your favorites that I write up or the ones that you hate have some control in how things are done and which wrestlers get tv time, which ones don't, who gets a push. It is just like it is done in the real world. My 'viewers' help to dictate how things go.

I also wanted to add that I know that some of you already know about my signs deal from my other diaries but I would like to see some interesting signs made here as well if anyone gets the opportunity. For those who haven't seen them before, these are signs that the fans hold up either during matches or entrances, etc. They are added to the end of your prediction sheet under the fan signs or signs heading and will be added to the card where I can fit them in. I don't think I've had a time where I've missed having a fan sign in the show it was meant for. If I had, then it was just an oversight by me. So get as creative with them as you like.

In conclusion, let me thank everyone for your predictions and comments and just for reading this diary. I hope everyone has enjoyed where things are going and I hope you will all continue to enjoy where things are leading as we head toward the Clash of the Champions.

Yay! I got singled out.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 3 November 1989

Location: The Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas (Mid South)

Attendance: 10,000

Overall Rating: B

TV Rating: 1.79

Some of the angles used definitely helped lift the show as a whole.

This show can be considered a success, it should have increased our popularity.

Match #1

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1

Mike Rotundo vs. Junkyard Dog

[unlike certain other promotions, we can lead off with a match and what an opening match we have lined up for you as we have Mike Rotundo versus Junkyard Dog in the NWA World Television Title Tournament. JYD had his fun early in the match, hitting Rotundo with a few headbutts. Rotundo though made his comeback against JYD with some fine mat wrestling. The fans were confused when Bob Orton came out from the back with a beer bottle in his hand. Orton weaved his way down toward the ring along the ramp and watched as JYD made a comeback. Rotundo fell to the mat and had the referee distracted. Orton walked over to JYD. The Junkyard Dog turned toward him and Orton spit beer in his eyes! JYD rubbed his eyes and staggered around as Rotundo quickly popped to his feet. He showed a feat of strength when he lifted JYD -- Airplane Spin! JYD collapsed to the mat and Rotundo made a cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Mike Rotundo (Via Pinfall @ 7:36)

Match Rating: C

[As Rotundo celebrated, it was time for another pre-recorded interview...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/jimross2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/RickSteiner3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/ScottSteiner22.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/missyhyatt.jpg

[...This time Jim Ross is backstage with the NWA World Tag Team Champions...]

Jim Ross

"Hello everyone and thank you for watching World Championship Wrestling! I'm Jim Ross and here with me are the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers along with their manager Missy Hyatt. Gentlemen, tonight is a number one contenders match to see just who you will be facing at the Clash of the Champions in a couple of weeks between The Wild Samoans and The Rock 'N' Roll Express. Your thoughts?"

Scott Steiner

"You know what, Jim? It doesn't matter who we step in the ring with. It could be The Samoans or the Rock 'N' Rolls or anyone else in the NWA. My brother and myself, we're doing it for each and every one of the NWA fans. We're going to step inside that ring and defend these belts with pride at the Clash against either team. Right, Rick?"

Rick Steiner

"You said a mouthful, my brother. At the Clash, I am going to take a bite out of whoever we face inside the ring. Rock 'N' Roll Express? We respect you. Wild Samoans? We respect you. But my brother and I aren't ready to give up these tag team titles."

[...Meanwhile in the background, Missy Hyatt has been dancing around some, blowing kisses to the camera and waving. Everyone has pretty much taken to ignoring her and it's time for us to head back to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

Match #2

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/RipRogers.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/eddiegilbert-1.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/missyhyatt.jpg

Rip Rogers vs. Eddie Gilbert

[This was a rather short and one-sided affair here as Eddie Gilbert took the veteran Rip Rogers to school. 'Hot Stuff,' with Missy Hyatt at ringside, focused in on the leg of Rip Rogers while Missy mugged for the camera whenever it came to her side. Gilbert wrapped the Figure 4 Leglock around the legs of Rip Rogers and it wasn't long before Rip had to submit.]

Winner: Eddie Gilbert (Via Submission @ 1:43)

Match Rating: D-

[...Missy Hyatt looked pleased as referee Randy Anderson raised Eddie Gilbert's hand but she wasn't too pleased about being pushed back by one figure while another attacked Eddie...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/garyhart.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/terryfunk2.jpg

[...Gary Hart held Missy Hyatt back as Terry Funk took a branding iron to Eddie Gilbert! Funk caught him in the ribcage and then across the back! Funk grabbed Eddie and pulled him in -- Texas Piledriver! The crowd booed as Terry raised his arms up with the branding iron held high. The battles between these two are definitely heating up.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

[After the ring cleared, the crowd cheered for the music of the next man to walk out...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/rickysteamboat2.jpg

[...Ricky Steamboat came out from the back unexpectedly. He gave some high fives to the fans on his way out to the ring. He slid inside and was given a microphone...]

Ricky Steamboat

"Sting, I know you're listening to me. I don't know what came over you. Maybe it was lust for power. Maybe it was greed. But whatever it is, it isn't more powerful than the power of the Dragon. In just a couple of short weeks, I will be facing you in a one on one match. There will be no interference and we will see that the best man will win."

[...Steamboat might have said something more if a figure hadn't walked out from the back...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting6.jpg

[...It's Sting! And he's not alone! He's carrying a black baseball bat in his hand. Steamboat looks to Sting and drops the microphone, ready to fight if the situation calls for it. Sting enters the ring and holds up the bat and then hands it to Steamboat?? What in the world? Sting turns his back on Steamboat, begging him to hit him with the bat! But remember if Steamboat hits Sting with the baseball bat he will lose his shot at being number one contender! Steamboat brings the bat back...and then stops! Steamboat drops the bat and walks around Sting, heading to the back. Sting looks upset, reaching down and grabbing the baseball bat before exiting the ring and heading to the back as well.]

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/buzzsawyer.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/brianpillman.jpg

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1

Buzz Sawyer vs. Flyin' Brian

[This is our last of the first round matches of the NWA World Television Title Tournament. The winner will go on to face Mike Rotundo next week! This was a back and forth match with Buzz Sawyer having ample motivation in this match due to his possible expulsion from J-Tex Corporation. Sawyer did a lot of the takedown holds and grounding, while Flyin' Brian did as his name implies. He sped up the tempo and really got the crowd wowed with some of his moves. Brian managed to use a good kick to the gut on Sawyer and make it to the top rope. Flyin Brian leaped -- Top Rope Sunset Flip! He used it as a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Buzz Sawyer is gone from J-Tex and Flyin' Brian will face Mike Rotundo next week for a spot in the finals!]

Winner: Flyin' Brian (Via Pinfall @ 6:30)

Match Rating: D

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/cactusjack3.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/jasonknight.jpg

Cactus Jack vs. Jason Knight

[Another extremely short and one-sided affair as Cactus Jack dominated Jason Knight. Not that anyone was really surprised about that fact. Has Jason even won a match in these last few months? I don't think so. Cactus rammed Jason's head against the ring post outside the ring and brought him back in for a Double Arm DDT and a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Cactus Jack (Via Pinfall @ 1:56)

Match Rating: C-

[...Cactus smiled a smile that only a mother could love as he rolled Jason Knight out of the ring and onto the floor. Cactus got up on the apron and measured Knight when someone came running in from the back...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/SteveWilliams2.jpg

[...Dr. Death Steve Williams jumped on the apron and started exchanging punches with Cactus Jack! Williams grabbed Jack by the head and threw him off the apron! Jack went head-first against the security guardrail and bounced off, staggering and falling backward. Williams jumped off the apron and charged Cactus as Jack got back up -- a clothesline sends Cactus up and over the guardrail and into the fan in the first row! That's what you get for a front row seat: take-home-a-wrestler night! The fun police came out to break things up a little late as always.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

[Jim Ross spoke of a commotion going on backstage. We are taken backstage and it's more than just a commotion...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/paulellering.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/hawk3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/animal3.jpg

[...Security is already on the scene as The Road Warriors and the Skyscrapers go at each other! Paul Ellering and Theodore R. Long try to break things up but it's not easy to break things with wrestlers this big! Security does their best, though, trying to keep these four athletes from killing each other and threats of being arrested finally break things up.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

[Time for one more pre-recorded interview...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/ricflairc.jpg

[...This one is with our NWA World Heavyweight Champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair!...]

Ric Flair

"Ohhh Lord it's hard to be humble when you're the NWA World Heavyweight Champion and a limousine riding jet-flying kiss-stealing wheeling dealing son of a gun like the Nature Boy. Whooooo. Tonight, I have a major defense of my NWA World Heavyweight title when I take on the man known as the Beast From The East Bam Bam Bigelow. Hey fat boy is it true that the only heat that goes on within your bedroom comes from those tattoos on the top of your head? That's what all the ladies are telling me right before they get the ride of their life on Space Mountain. Whooooo. Tonight, I am going to take care of Bigelow and at the Clash, well, I haven't been told who I am facing at the Clash of the Champions yet but they better know that to be the man, they have to beat the man. Whoooo. Whether you like me or whether you don't like me, you better learn to love me because I am the NWA World Heavyweight Champion and the best thing going today! Whooooo!"

[...Flair with another little strut and we head down to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/samu5.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/fatu7.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/rickymorton.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/robertgibson2.jpg

#1 Contenders Match

The Wild Samoans vs. Rock 'N' Roll Express

[Definitely one of the better matches on the card is this tag team encounter to determine who will face the Steiner Brothers at the Clash. Both teams used some distinct double team moves, including Ricky and Robert dropping a double elbow on Fatu and then jumping to their feet and dropping a double fistdrop. Robert made a cover on that: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Robert was definitely off his game in this match, though, and he was the target for the usual Ricky Morton treatment. But when Ricky was tagged in, the crowd exploded as Ricky hit clotheslines on both members of the Samoans! Ricky tried to punch Samu but Samu just shrugged off the punch to the head. Samu dropped Ricky with a headbutt and moved up to the turnbuckles. Fatu joined him but on a seperate turnbuckle. They both leaped -- Double Diving Headbutt! Samu made the cover as Fatu knocked Robert Gibson off the apron: 1 -- 2 -- 3! The Wild Samoans are headed to the Clash!]

Winners: The Wild Samoans (Via Pinfall @ 9:58)

Match Rating: B-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

Match #6

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/bambambigelow.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/ricflairc.jpg

NWA World Title Match

Bam Bam Bigelow gets a shot vs. Ric Flair©

[it's main event time and an NWA World Heavyweight Title match to boot! You can't ask for anything more than that, right? Well, how about better chemistry in the match because there sure was chemistry lacking between these two. However, Bam Bam was definitely a tough competitor for any wrestler, including the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The chops that Flair gave him just bounced off the large chest and Bigelow downed Flair with a headbutt. Bigelow played to a booing crowd for a moment and then body slammed Flair onto the mat. Flair grabbed his back and it was obviously aching. This is a man who broke his back in an airplane accident less than ten years ago. Bigelow picked up Flair and sent him toward the turnbuckle. Flair flipped up and over the turnbuckle and went running along the apron. Flair climbed up that turnbuckle but was caught by Bigelow! Flair shook his head but ended up getting body slammed to the mat for his trouble. Flair slid back in the corner, shaking his head but Bigelow was right on him. Bigelow grabbed Flair and pulled him up, whipping him across the ring to the corner. Bigelow went to follow him in but Flair moved out of the way! Bigelow hit chest-first into the corner and Flair took him down with a shoulder tackle to the knee...]

[...Flair's focus was right on the knee of Bam Bam Bigelow, keeping him grounded. He dropped an elbow on the knee and gave it a few stomps. He managed to drag Bigelow to the ropes and jumped on top of the knee, using the ropes for leverage. Flair stepped away as Bigelow held the knee and gave a strut, releasing a 'Whoooo!' which the crowd answered back in kind. Flair turned back to Bigelow and bounced off the ropes -- Knee Drop! Flair tugged Bigelow's large body to the center of the ring and then moved around to the legs. He grabbed Bigelow's legs -- Figure 4 Leglock! Flair locked in the Figure 4! Bigelow resisted, trying to pull himself to the ropes but he's too far away! Bigelow shook his head, trying to get the Figure 4 turned over but Flair, the mastermind, wouldn't let him do it. Bigelow -- submits! He gave up before his legs were broken!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 11:39)

Match Rating: B

[...The crowd released some 'Whoooo's' in support of the man who is still the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Flair released the hold and was given the title belt by referee Tommy Young, who raised Flair's arm! The crowd stirred as a figure came walking down toward the ring...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting6.jpg

[...It's Sting and once more he has the baseball bat in hand. Ric takes a step backward as Sting rolls into the ring. Sting holds up the baseball bat and gives it to Ric Flair! Sting turns his back and waits. Will Ric Flair hit Sting? Ric gives a strut back and forth behind Sting and then raises the baseball bat up over his shoulder. He takes aim at Sting. If Ric Flair does this, he loses the NWA World Heavyweight Title! Ric leans in toward Sting...]

[...'WHOOOOOOOO!'...]

[...Flair drops the bat after giving that 'Whooo' in Sting's ear. Flair exits the ring with his belt intact and Sting's plans did not work tonight! We'll see you next week everyone!]

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 4 November 1989

Heels Always Listed First

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals: The Great Muta vs. Steve Williams

Cactus Jack isn't through ruining Dr. Death's life, and as I'd predicted early, Muta is the obvious favourite in this tournament.

Non Title: Rip Rogers vs. Ric Flair

In the "Battle of the Ri-s", Flair takes this one easy-peasy.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals: Mike Rotundo vs. Flyin' Brian

With Muta making it to the finals, it's only logical that Flyin' Brian is his opponent. Rotunda won't be far out of the hunt, though, as I suspect Pillman will JUST squeek this one out.

Sting vs. A Mystery Opponent

I've got to admit, I have no clue who this will be. Sting, though, is your top heel, so he's not taking the fall, no matter who this is.

Terry Funk vs. Ricky Steamboat

Hotstuff rears his head here, as the Steamer goes into CotC strong. Just out of curiousity, what number would be attached to this show? I know whenever I see them listed, it's with a Roman Numeral.

NWA CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS

Sunday Week 4 November 1989

Heels Always Listed First

Hardcore Match: Cactus Jack vs. Steve Williams

With your remark earlier, that one of my comments changed your booking plans, I'm assuming that this was the pairing that you're refering to. I get the feeling that you wanted to put Jack over, but me saying that it would bury Williams led to you using the DQ finish. This time, it's Cactus' specialty match. Time for Dr. Death to do the job.

#1 Contenders Match: The Skyscrapers vs. The Road Warriors

This is a very difficult match to call. Not only did the Skyscrapers take the victory last month, but with Starcade right around the corner, now might be the time for the big Warriors/Steiners match. That said, the 'scrapers are hot right now, and I think you should capitalize on that. There's always time for the dream match, down the road.

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Wild Samoans get a shot vs. The Steiner Brothers

Routine defense for the Steiners. The Samoans make such great placeholder challengers, and could fill the same role as transitional champions, in the future.

NWA World Television Title Match, Tournament Finals: The Great Muta vs. Flyin' Brian

I'm stickin' to my guns here. I said at the beginning that Muta was the obvious favourite, but that just lends itself so well to a great underdog story. Pillman's got all the talent in the world, and it will be great to showcase him every week, while he slowly climbs the ladder. Muta is obviously ready for bigger things, and with the right booking (which I think you're doing) this loss won't be more than an inconvenience.

NWA United States Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Z-Man

Okay, Zed-Man, you've had your fun. Now it's time for the grown ups to play. I've made no secret my disinterest in Zenk, and that hasn't subsided, despite your efforts. With Sting/Flair headlining Starcade, you need an opponent for Steamboat. Luger is that guy. End of story.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair defends vs. A Mystery Opponent to be named on World Championship Wrestling

I'm intrigued as to who will be the mystery opponent. Although, with this sitting in the semi-main slot, and Flair being one half of the match, you could put a cardboard cut-out in the ring, and you'll still have a serviceable match.

#1 Contendership Match: Sting vs. Ricky Steamboat

I don't think this outcome could be more obvious. That's not a bad thing, though. After all, it's pro wrestling, not brain surgury. This is the good kind of predictible, because it's so firmly rooted in logic. I'm already stoked for Flair/Sting. Make sure you book it outdoors, or else these guys will blow the roof off the joint.

NWA POWER HOUR

Rip Rogers vs. Steve Williams

The Great Muta vs. Jason Knight

Dick Slater vs. Junkyard Dog

All three matches kind of speak for themselves in my opinion.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals: The Great Muta vs. Steve Williams

Good match-up on paper, nice clash of styles - I'm with those expecting some Cactus Jack interference to tip the balance away from Dr. Death - I also don't see him pulling double duty at the Clash.

Non Title: Rip Rogers vs. Ric Flair

If you get an A match from this I'm demanding a steward's enquiry! An absolute momentum hand grenade to have anything other than a clear Flair victory!

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals: Mike Rotundo vs. Flyin' Brian

As I've already mentioned, my initial tournament pick was Rotundo but I don't see a late 80s NWA crowd getting behind a heel vs heel match and I've already taken Muta to go over - Pillman almost by default.

Sting vs. A Mystery Opponent

Guesses On Mystery Opponent: Black Scorpion? :p Nah, I'll go with JYD. Regardless, a strong Sting victory here I reckon.

Terry Funk vs. Ricky Steamboat

If Ricky's going to be a threat to Sting at the Clash he has to come in looking strong - and a win over everyone's favourite hardcore icon is just the way to do it!

NWA CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS

Hardcore Match: Cactus Jack vs. Steve Williams

Gotta agree with Greg, the time is right for Cactus to go over and his non-appearance in the TV tournament means that he's a good candidate for #1 contendership...

#1 Contenders Match: The Skyscrapers vs. The Road Warriors

A real toughie. I'm going with The Skyscrapers as well because I believe another face team will have to be built to replace the Warriors before they're put on a course with the Steiners. A last tag team push for Spivey & Vicious before Sid is moved on to bigger and better things. I imagine that the Steiners v Warriors feud will require one of them going heell and for my money, a heel Road Warriors is a more tantalising prospect

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Wild Samoans get a shot vs. The Steiner Brothers

Back to the midcard with you! Killing time until the Skyscrapers are ready.

NWA World Television Title Match, Tournament Finals: The Great Muta vs. Flyin' Brian

Said it already - I don't think Muta should get tied down to this title and should be sniffing around the US belt scene already.

NWA United States Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Z-Man

The patented Ritchardo shock of the night! Z-Man to be a transitional champion and set Lex free to start a march on the World Title with Luger/Steamboat being a legitimate number #1 contenders match at Starrcade. I can also see Zenk dropping the belt quickly to Bigelow.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair defends vs. A Mystery Opponent to be named on World Championship Wrestling

I'm absolutely stumped as to who could be the mystery opponent - unless it's the Black Scorp... no, sorry, used that joke! Normally I'd have had a go at Rotundo but he's wrestling on World Championship Wrestling... Michael Hayes? I'll go for Hayes.

#1 Contendership Match: Sting vs. Ricky Steamboat

Big part of me would love to see Flair/Steamboat IV but Sting/Flair for Starrcade is an absolute stick on.

He was my initial pick (I think), so I'll stick to it.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 4 November 1989

Location: American Bank Center, Corpus Christi Texas (Mid South)

Attendance: 10,000

Overall Rating: B+

TV Rating: 2.13

There was a feeling that a number of the angles used did not reach the standards set by the in-ring action.

This show can be considered a success, it should have increased our popularity.

The Power Hour

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Steve Williams defeated Rip Rogers in 8:30 by pinfall with an Oklahoma Stampede...C

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, The Great Muta defeated Jason Knight in 8:03 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press...B

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Junkyard Dog defeated Dick Slater in 7:35 when Dick Slater was disqualified when 'Cowboy' Bob Orton ran in and attacked Junkyard Dog...B

[...Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously!]

Jim Ross

"Good evening everyone and welcome to World Championship Wrestling! I'm Jim Ross alongside..."

Paul E. Dangerously

"The best colour man AND manager in all of professional wrestling: Paul E. Dangerously. Tonight, we are going to see a lot of fighting going on as we head toward Clash of the Champions IX!"

Jim Ross

"I couldn't have said it better myself, Paul. Not only do we have the semi finals of the NWA World Television Title Tournament but we are also going to learn the identity of the man who will be facing Ric Flair tomorrow night at the Clash."

Paul E. Dangerously

"Whoever it is better be ready to face either Sting or Ricky Steamboat at Starrcade. I was never a big Flair fan, you know."

Jim Ross

"You have made that abundantly clear, Paul. We will also have our main event of Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat against Terry Funk. But before we get to that, let's head on up to the ring for our opening bout here on World Championship Wrestling."

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals

The Great Muta vs. Steve Williams

[What a match to open things up here tonight. The Great Muta along with Gary Hart in his corner taking on Steve Dr. Death Williams. A definite clash of styles between these two men and it showed in the lack of selling throughout the match. Muta took down Williams with some good karate kicks but Williams came back with a big press slam that sent Muta flying out of the ring! Williams set up Muta for the Doctor Bomb when Cactus Jack came flying out of the crowd and toward the ring. Cactus got up on the apron and Williams dropped Muta. Williams and the referee were distracted by the presence of Cactus Jack and Gary Hart helped the Great Muta to his feet. As Williams turned around, he was caught by the Asian Mist! Muta went to the top turnbuckle with catlike agility -- Moonsault Press! Muta turned it into a pin: 1 -- 2 -- 3! The Great Muta advances to the finals!]

[speaking of the NWA World Title, 'The Nature Boy' came out from the back for his match against the man already in the ring: Rip Rogers. Flair caught Rogers with several chops in the corner. Paul Ellering

"Skyscrapers, there is no doubt that you are a physically imposing team. I would have to be a fool to say otherwise and everyone knows that Paul Ellering is no fool. But Teddy Long, they gave you a nose to breathe through so you could keep your mouth shut. That's exactly what you need to do when talking about my Road Warriors. At the Clash of the Champions, not only are my Road Warriors going to snatch a victory from you but we're also going to go on to Starrcade to face the winners from the Steiner Brothers versus Wild Samoans match. Everyone says it is a dream match to see the Steiners face my Road Warriors. At Starrcade, I hope the dream comes true and we see just who the most dominating tag team is to start out the new year."

Theodore R. Long

"First of all, Paul, don't call me Teddy. You don't know me that well, partner. Secondly, you are right about one thing: the Skyscrapers are a physically dominant team. We dominated your sorry asses at Halloween Havoc and now we have to do it again at Clash Nine to get an NWA World Tag Team Title shot. Whether we face the Steiners or the Samoans at Starrcade it won't matter because what the Godfather wants, the Godfather gets and right now the Godfather wants the NWA World Tag Team gold."

[...The Skyscrapers looked just as menacing as the Road Warriors in this picture. But it's time to head back to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/mikerotundo.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/brianpillman.jpg

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Semifinals

Mike Rotundo vs. Flyin' Brian

[This is the second half of the NWA World Television Title Tournament Semifinals and this was another good contrast of styles. Flyin' Brian came in hot, knocking Rotundo around with his quick aerial tactics. A hit and run strategy seemed to be what Brian was employing. He even went over the top rope and hit a somersault senton on Rotundo outside the ring! But back inside, Rotundo was on his game on the mat and tied up Brian in several interesting holds but Brian wouldn't give up. Rotundo got Brian set up for the Airplane Spin and Brian grabbed the ropes so that Rotundo couldn't spin. The referee made Rotundo break the hold and Rotundo got into an argument with referee Tommy Young. The distraction led to Brian rolling up Rotundo: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Flyin' Brian advances to the finals to face The Great Muta for the NWA World Television Title!]

Winner: Flyin' Brian (Via Pinfall @ 8:14)

Match Rating: B

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/tomzenk.jpg

[...This time it's the challenger for the U.S. Title at the Clash of the Champions the Z-Man...]

Z-Man

"Lex Luger, let's ask the fans a question for a moment. Just who do they think has the better body? Who do the fans believe has the better physique? I think it's obvious that it's the man who knows everything from A-Z. It's the Z-Man. Tomorrow night, Clash of the Champions, I also know that I'm going to be walking away with your belt and you are just going to be walking away."

[...Z-Man flexes and we head out to the parking garage.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/NWA-1.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/barrywindham2.jpg

[...Barry Windham is about to get in when he sees the camera.]

Barry Windham

"You want a few words? Is that it? Well I'll give you just a few and make this short and sweet: tomorrow night, Clash of the Champions, new NWA World Heavyweight Champion."

[...Windham makes the 'belt' motion at his waist, laughs and climbs into his car driving away as we head to the ring.]

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting6.jpg

[Out in the ring, the man called Sting makes his way out to the ring. Sting steps inside and asks the announcers off camera who his opponent is. They shrug and shake their heads as they don't know who it is. Sting leans back against the ropes and some music begins to play that is unfamiliar to most. The curtains to the back part to show a man in great physical condition and with a great physique of his own...]

[...Tonight, not only has Barry Windham returned to the NWA but it's Paul Orndorff! The man known in another organization as 'Mr. Wonderful' climbed into the ring to a large cheer from the fans! There was a lot of recognition from the fans as to who this man is and he definitely has a physique to match the Stinger...]

[...Orndorff took the early control in this match due to the surprise factor. He wore down Sting early on and looked good in his first match in around a year. Orndorff set the pace early on and Sting looked caught by surprise by the onslaught by Mr. Wonderful. Orndorff caught Sting with a vicious looking German Suplex and he made a quick cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! He was mere inches away from beating Sting. Sting made a comeback around the eight minute mark and he never looked back. He was in control and managed to press slam Orndorff to the mat. He sent Orndorff into the turnbuckle and then ran in -- Stinger Splash! Instead of going for the Scorpion Deathlock, he showed some respect for Orndorff by going for a quick pin instead: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Sting (Via Pinfall @ 9:56)

Terry Funk vs. Ricky Steamboat

[The last match had been a surprise but this one definitely wasn't. These two in ring veterans don't care for each other and make some bitter foes inside the ring. Terry Funk used his hardcore style throughout the match, making use of moves outside the ring, including whipping Steamboat against the guardrail, running his head into the ring post and body slamming him onto the thin mats covered with concrete. Funk brought Steamboat back into the ring and lifted him up -- Brainbuster! Funk made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!...]

[...At around the 10 minute mark, Steamboat began making his comeback. He broke a reverse chinlock and laced into Funk with some hard chops that had the crowd grimacing in pain. During the match, Eddie Gilbert had slipped down to ringside and he neutralized any outside interference by Gary Hart. He also served as a distraction to Terry Funk as Funk gained the advantage back with a rake of the eyes on Steamboat. Gilbert grabbed Gary Hart and threatened to punch him but Terry came over to block it. Gilbert shoved Gary Hart down to the ground and then turned to Terry Funk. As the referee checked on Gary Hart, Gilbert threw a punch to the face of Terry Funk and then the night was lit up by a huge fireball thrown by Eddie Gilbert! The crowd wowed at it and Steamboat was perched on the top rope -- Flying Cross Body! Steamboat turned it into a pin as the referee turned around: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Ricky Steamboat (Via Pinfall @ 14:07)

Match Rating: A

[...Eddie Gilbert was a happy man at ringside, leaving through the fans. Steamboat got his arm raised and he had no clue that Eddie threw the fireball as he was focused on climbing to the top turnbuckle. EMTs came to check on Terry Funk and even Steamboat looked concerned. This look of concern distracted Steamboat from someone entering the ring. It's someone with a gold belt that just smacked the back of Steamboat's head...]

[...It's Lex Luger! The Total Package puts the boots to Steamboat! Luger also has the black baseball bat that was brought out by Barry Windham earlier in the night! He cracks Steamboat in the ribs with the bat. Then he picks up Steamboat -- Human Torture Rack! He held him on the Rack for about a minute before dropping him to the mat! Luger grabbed a microphone and raised it to his lips...]

Lex Luger

"There lays your number one contender."

[...Iconic words that Luger has spoken before about Steamboat. Luger stands over Steamboat, raising the NWA United States Title and we've got to go! We'll see you tomorrow at the Clash!]

You see... it's at times like this that the game mechanics are slightly off kilter! If that was a real and genuine show, it's an A... easy! great in-ring action with Funk/Steamboat, Muta/Dr Death & Pillman/Rotundo, genuine shocks in the return of Windham & debut of Paul Orndorff - sensible and logically booked run-ins and post match shennanigans!

On a side note: how often do you think Ric Flair has ever been in the worst match of the night! lol!

Excellent show and a real game changer with some fresh faces to shake up the upper midcard scene. Looking forward to the PPV now!

I am really glad you enjoyed the show. I hope the two mystery wrestlers were a bit of a shock to everyone. I made the decision a couple of weeks back on Windham and Orndorff coming out. It gave Sting a good match to head toward the pay-per-view on, just like Steamboat had and it gave a legitimate challenger for Ric Flair's title.

And I am really glad you are looking forward to the PPV. It's one of the best things that a television show can do is make people want to buy the pay-per-view.

I love getting to see Barry where he belongs. Yeah, had a bunch of stops in the WWF, but really, he's just the type of "southern brawler" who just fits in the NWA. Orndorff fits but for a vastly different reason: because he fits in no matter what. Looking forward to see these two tangle with the other talent in the NWA. Orndorff vs Jack or Luger would be a great feud to follow up here for them, and while Barry will not be getting the win over Flair, I can see him heading after, say, Steamboat for Starrcade. There's just so much potential! You're really making me want to jump back into the NWA game I'd started a month ago :p
