USPW: A Joker At Work

Recommended Posts

It was the end of 2009.

It was all very strange.

When Sam Strong announced that he was looking for someone else to take over the booking of USPW from Shane Sneer, all I saw it was an opportunity to get an official letter from USPW. See, I’d heard someone once applying to become manager of a football club, based on the fact that they did well when they managed them on a computer game. They received a letter back thanking them for their application, but unfortunately the job had already been filled. Not as if they’d have ever got the job, but that was neither here nor there – if I could receive a letter like that, I’d be happy. And with the wonders of e-mail, it wouldn’t even cost me a postage stamp. So, I dug out a link to my old USPW diary, my first CornellVerse diary, pulled out some key storylines, sent it off… and then forgot about it.

And then I got the most surreal phone calls of my life. You don’t expect Sam Strong to give you a call. Even if you’ve just applied for a job at USPW, with no real life experience of the wrestling business. I spent the entire conversation thinking it was a wind up, but not quite sure enough to challenge the person on the other end of the phone. After all, I hadn’t told anyone I was applying, and I couldn’t quite work out who would have the desire to both hack my e-mails and then punk me out. We agreed to a “web chat interview”, and scheduled it for the next day. Then I spent the best part of an hour finding a phone number for USPW HQ. If I was being punked out, I wanted to know what was going on, so when I got through to Sam’s PA and found out that I was actually scheduled for an interview, I was stunned. And I also had to spin her a story about checking out the time differences, to make sure I wasn’t late. Way to look lame before an interview.

The interview wasn’t even an interview – it was a bouncing of ideas. He liked the International Challenge, liked that I employed Cherry Bomb even before there was a women’s division… man, Sam Strong seemed to like a lot of what I did. Then we came on to Nicky Champion, who I was still booking under the old Tom E Hawk guise… if you count the occasional job as booking. I convinced Sam that Nicky was underrated back in 2004, and I knew he was one of the top talents on USPW’s books today. That kept him happy – happy enough to offer me a job. The figures he offered me were good, the relocation deal was fantastic – I accepted there and then.

It took me three weeks to sort everything out to relocate, and I still couldn’t quite get my head around it. Sam, having even an interest in me? Interviewing me by webcam!?! Accepting me basing my application on how I'd booked USPW in a game, a job many people had done better since!?!?! And it wasn’t just him that were being weird – my most supportive, wrestling loving friends mocked me going to USPW, whereas my family were the most supportive that they’d ever been – and they’d never liked wrestling.

People were just acting… unlike themselves. It was almost as if… as if a joker had affected everyone’s personalities…

Okay, so this may not have been the greatest of ideas – running a joker game. I’ve given myself an increase in leadership, but I doubt that it’s going to make up for the massive extremes in backstage personalities I’ve now got.

USPW’s backstage has gone from this:

Anger – Negative

Giant Redwood – Extremely Negative

Peter Valentine – Very Negative

Seduction – Negative

Sheik Mustapha – Very Negative

Chris Caulfield – Locker Room Leader

Commissioner Doom – Positive Influence

James Justice – Positive Influence

Micky Starr – Positive Influence

Sam Strong – Positive Influence

To this:

Anger – Extremely Negative

Baby Jamie – Very Negative

Danny Rushmore – Negative

James Justice – Very Negative

Nicky Champion – Extremely Negative

Seduction – Extremely Negative

Shane Sneer – Negative

Sheik Mustapha – Very Negative

Tyson Baine – Extremely Negative

Al the Hillbilly – Extremely Positive

Belle Bryden – Positive

Bruce the Giant – Locker Room Leader

Captain USA – Positive

Commissioner Doom – Positive

Darryl Devine – Positive

Enygma – Positive

Jumbo Jackson – Extremely Positive

Micky Starr – Positive

Sam Strong - Positive

I had to run it a few times, as originally backstage influence went from 84.9% to 100.0%, which was a bit unfair. Then it dipped to 51.4%. This version went to 84.6%, which is about as close as I’m going to get.

And just in case you’re wondering, Big Smack Scott is still a bit of an idiot – however, there are a lot worse people.

And I know, another USPW diary. I’m not going to apologise for it – USPW are one of the best promotions to use get full use out of the new features in TEW2010. I’ve been reading along with the other USPW diaries but have resisted commenting too much, as I haven’t wanted to say how I’d use the USPW roster. In some ways the same – I’m on a few shows already, and some of my signings have been exactly the same. In some ways different – mainly that the other diaries are far more involved than mine, which is more of a tool to make sure that I try to tell proper storylines for myself. As such, don’t expect my writing to be as good as the other USPW authors. It won’t be. You’ll hardly ever see me writing dialogue, because I can’t.

Welcome back! Good to see an old diary vet get back in the saddle. USPW is a crowded field at the moment though, so you are going to have a lot of competition. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Day 1, meeting with Sam. Introduced myself to her PA, she made a quip about whether I was sure what time zone I was in. Good start.

Sam was all business, wanting to know what ideas I could take from my diary onto the big screen. That was where I had difficulties. I built USPW around Jungle Jack, Marc DuBois and Eisaku Hoshino, none of whom were available. Mean Jean Cattley and Joss Thompson had a decent slow burn feud during my booking career, but I wasn’t going to rush into that. I told Sam that I had a very different, stronger roster, including Enygma on the most… interesting contract I had ever seen. Sam reminded me he had Creative Control – no jobbing him out for a week, with a smile. Well, he’d certainly read my diary. Enygma was meant to be Jungle Jack’s replacement after he went down with an injury, but left just a week after I signed him. Still managed to job him out though.

The other idea that Sam really wanted to push was the International Challenge. I pointed out that with three Canadians, one Samoan, one Indonesian and one Australian, we really weren’t there. Sam agreed, but told me he’d make sure that Java would be referred to as an “Islander”, giving a little flexibility about who he wrestled for. It was a start.

So, then it came to signings. Sam acknowledged that the promotion was three spots short – three spots that Shane Sneer had floated the idea of giving to Painful Procedure, hitting USPW looking for a new vocalist. I asked who this vocalist would be, and it turns out that it’d be the basis of a feud between Belle Bryden and Alicia Strong, and apparently Sam wasn’t behind it. I agreed that Alicia didn’t need to be involved in that, but didn’t completely shelf the idea. It could work. I gave Sam a list of workers of 42 workers I was keeping an eye on – not signing, but keeping an eye on. I circled a few as possible signings, and Sam said he’d let me know his opinions. That was disappointing – I thought I’d be in charge of signings.

Day 2, meeting with Sam. He let me know what he thought of a few of the workers I had suggested, telling me how he thought they’d fit. But he let me know that at the end of the day it was my call – what I wanted, but it sure put the pressure back on.

Sam also let me know that he was thinking of opening a development thread – and quipped that we might need it with the size of my list. He had put feelers out, but there was nothing concrete yet. I wasn’t sure if I was for or against the idea – although it’d be nice to tie down some workers to development deals, it’d be expensive, and could damage the indy scene, which I was still a fan of. Still, it wasn’t happening yet

Day 3. Meet wrestlers. Book show. Here we go

Announced for USPW American Wrestling:

Savage Fury vs Jumbo Jackson and Anger

The Force vs Darryl Devine

Raven Robinson © vs Cherry Bomb for the USPW Women’s Title

James Justice vs Giant Redwood

Enygma vs Peter Valentine in a non title match

Nicky Champion vs Tyson Baine

If you actually push Redwood... Then I will love you forever. :D

How about if... you give me some time on that one? If he vacatated the lower-midcard spot on the roster that's leave just Darryl Devine and Anger there on the heel side. I need someone to lose to my stars, but in time will have others in that position. And then perhaps the Giant will prosper?

USPW American Wrestling:

Live from the Tri State

Pre Show: Enygma defeated Anger in a non title match (C-)

Match #1: The Hillbillys vs The Titans

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/PeteTheHillbilly.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/AlTheHillbilly.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/TysonBaine.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/T-Rex_alt1.jpg

This was an attempt to make Baine and T-Rex look dominant. Looks like that might work better, especially in T-Rex’s case, out of the ring

The Titans defeated The Hillbillys in 3.52 (D)

After the match The Titans stormed to the back with Sheik Mustapha, and found the champion Enygma with James Justice. Baine boasted about their victory, but Justice shrugged it off, saying they hadn’t been watching. Mustapha held Baine back, before declaring that Enygma could have seen his fate at Stars, Stripes and Slams if he’d been watching – but he’s happy to save that. He turned to Justice, and told him that he needed to find a tag partner, as at Stars, Stripes and Slams he’d be facing T-Rex and a partner… to be revealed later. Segment was definitely better than the last match (B)

We cut to Captain USA approaching Peter Valentine, claiming a National Title shot. Valentine just laughed in his face, telling USA that he didn’t even deserve to be in the ring with him, let alone getting a title shot (C-)

Match #2: The People’s Team and Raven Robinson vs The Towers of Power and Cherry Bomb

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/FreddieDatsun.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DesDavids.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/RavenNightfall_alt2.jpg

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpg

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DannyRushmore.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/MickMuscles.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/CherryBomb_alt2.jpg

A decent match this, that ended when the Tag Champions started to dominate, leading to the Number One Contenders to their titles, Jumbo Jackson and Anger, blatantly attacked the champs.

The People’s Team and Raven Robinson defeated The Towers of Power and Cherry Bomb in 6.43 by DQ (C-)

A post match brawl spilled out of the ring, where Cherry Bomb tried to attack Raven Robinson. She was met by a drop kick, but Robinson was completely unprepared when a debuting large lady entered the ring and gave the Women’s Champion a Hydra Bomb. She then joined Shane Sneer, and he dragged her away before The People’s Team could return. At the top of the stage Sneer pulled out a mic and introduced the USPW audience to the new, dominant face of female wrestling - Gorgon (C-)

Andre Jones came out, title coolly draped over his shoulder, and demanded to know if anyone dared answer his challenge. A newcomer came out, introducing himself as Marc Speed, with a valet (April Appleseed) at his side. He told Andre Jones that everyone knew he was a “Dual Sports Star” – but volleyball wasn’t exactly a man’s sport. He, however, was prepared to get into the ring anytime, anywhere, any rules, and is a master fighter – and was out to answer Jones’ challenge (D)

Match #3: Andre Jones © vs Marc Speed for the USPW Television Title

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_TV.jpg

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/AndreJones.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/MarcSpeed.jpg

Great action, not fully appreciated by the crowd, which had Speed working over Jones’ right leg. The newcomer fought well, but was clearly not prepared for Jones to cheat, as he grabbed the tights and used the ropes to score a flash pin.

Andre Jones © defeated Marc Speed in 7.29 to retain the USPW Television Title (D+)

Sam Strong came out to thank the fans for coming and watching, and asked everyone to tune in next week when he had a huge announcement. He was confused when Alicia Strong came out, and when he asked her why she was there she declared that she had a match. A doubtful Sam Strong asked her who, and looked horrified when he was told that his daughter would be facing Gorgon. Sam tried to talk her out of it, but Alicia stopped him, telling him that she got no special treatment, no special protection – that was the deal. Sam nodded, and joined up with the commentary team for the match (C+)

Match #4: Alicia Strong vs Gorgon

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/AliciaStrong.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/Gorgon.jpg

Alicia started well, using her speed to dodge her large opponent. However, one Gorgon caught her it became a show of power, and Gorgon delivered not one but two Hydra Bombs.

Gorgon defeated Alicia Strong in 5.05 (D)

After the match Gorgon delivered one more Hydra Bomb, before Sam Strong rolled into the ring, which forced Gorgon to slide out. With Alicia not moving Sam called to the back where some EMT’s came out with… Enygma… as he’s friends with Sam and… uh… wasn’t doing much else tonight. Everyone looked concerned as Alicia was wheeled to the back with her father (B-)

Match #5: James Justice vs Darryl Devine

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/Liberty.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DarrylDevine_alt1.jpg

The Devine push starts… in someone else’s diary. Justice won with a Liberation Slam.

James Justice defeated Darryl Devine in 6.42 (C-)

James Justice declared that he was not worried about T-Rex’s challenge for Stars, Stripes and Slams – in fact he had already lined up his partner – the future of USPW, Nicky Champion (C+)

Match #6: Chris Caulfield vs Giant Redwood

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/ChrisCaulfield_alt1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/GiantRedwood.jpg

Giant Redwood pulled Chris Caulfield down to a level far below his usual standard. I will not give up on, but he needs work. Which he should have had years ago.

Chris Caulfield defeated Giant Redwood in 4.57 (D+)

Bruce the Giant came out for his match and started arguing with Caulfield, trying to goad him into attacking him and forfeiting he place in the Number One Contenders match. It wasn’t to come to violence, and instead Caulfield became the second guest commentator of the night for the Main Event (C+)

Match #7: The Force vs Bruce the Giant

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/JimForce.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/BrucetheGiant.jpg

Sometimes it’s easy to mock bookers for their poor decisions, but I’ve just walked into that trap for the last part of this show. Trying to showcase Bruce while at the same time trying to make The Force look like a contender didn’t work.

Bruce the Giant defeated The Force in 9.21 (D+)

The show ended with a staredown between Chris Caulfield and Bruce the Giant, with the commentary team putting over how the two wouls soon meet in the ring (C+)

My booking philosophy in general is to not give away PPV matches on free TV. I may have to rethink that.

April Appleseed vs Belle Bryden vs Cherry Bomb in a Number One Contenders

match for the Women's Title

Belle is usally first in line

Des Davids vs Jumbo Jackson

Des not ready to go over Jumbo

James Justice and Nicky Champion vs The Towers of Power

Went back and forth on this one, but Justice and Champion should take it

Chris Caulfield vs Anger

Chris needs to build some momentum

Enygma vs Andre Jones in a non-title match

Non-Title Match is usally a give away, but I think the talent gap is too big here.

USPW American Wrestling:

Live from the Mid South

Pre Show: Mystery Match (D+)

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/SamStrong.jpg

Sam Strong opened the show with a huge announcement – next Tuesday USPW Stars, Stripes and Slams would be shown throughout the country on PPV – everyone would have the opportunity of watching the show. If they wanted to pay for it. He announced that he had told Commissioner Doom to arrange challengers to the Women’s and National Title tonight, as both matches would be defended next week on PPV. He then turned his attention on the Sneer Corporation, noting the damage they had done to Alicia Strong last week. He promised that tonight they’d have to do their talking in the ring, as he had arranged all the signed members to matches – and that didn’t include Gorgon, who was yet to hold an official USPW contract (B-)

Match #1: Des Davids vs Jumbo Jackson

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DesDavids.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/JumboJackson.jpg

Well, at last I’ve managed to open the show hotly, with this beating both our Main Events from last week. Jackson proved himself superior to one half of the tag champs, finishing him off with a Jumbo Avalanche with the Sneer Corporation looking on.

Jumbo Jackson defeated Des Davids in 6.19 (C-)

After the match the Corporation slowly made their way to the back. As the Towers of Power lagged behind they were jumped by the former Sneer Corporation members Savage Fury for a quick beatdown, before they disappeared off through the crowd as the rest of the Corporation returned ©

Marc Speed came out with April Appleseed to put his case forward for a shot at the National Title… which Peter Valentine quickly came out to refute. Valentine told Speed that a young upstart like him didn’t deserve the one title shot he’d already had since coming to USPW. However, he did decide, in his generosity, to consider Speed if he won his next match (D)

Match #2: Marc Speed vs Bruce the Giant

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/MarcSpeed.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/BrucetheGiant.jpg

Speed didn’t win the match

Bruce the Giant defeated Marc Speed in 4.17 (C-)

We went backstage, to where Belle Bryden was with Commissioner Doom. Yes, this is the first time I’ve featured Wanda on TV since I’ve taken over. She tried to sell herself as the Number One contender for the Women’s Title, to which Doom told her to prove it – with Alicia Strong injured she would face Cherry Bomb and “that girl who was ringside last match” in a triple threat match later, with the winner taking on Raven Robinson next week. Then Peter Valentine came in to declare there being no worthy competition for his National Title… closely followed by Captain USA declaring that he was said competition. As the two argued, Doom returned to his desk, and added “Valentine vs USA” underneath the list of matches already announced for Stars, Stripes and Slams (C-)

Match #3: Anger vs Chris Caulfield

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DemonAnger.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/ChrisCaulfield_alt1.jpg

The second match for the Sneer Corporation, who didn’t come out to support Anger. Way to respect your elders.

Chris Caulfield defeated Anger in 5.50 (D+)

Chris Caulfield took a mic after the match, and went on the hype for his PPV match with Bruce the Giant. He was delighted that they were finally going to sort out who was the better – but even more delighted that he was at last going to be lay hands on the giant, and show him who’s the man everyone wants to see win (B-)

Match #4: April Appleseed vs Belle Bryden vs Cherry Bomb

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/AprilAppleseed.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/BelleBryden.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/CherryBomb_alt2.jpg

I finally book Bryden on the main show, and just like that she becomes Number One Contender. Not sure if that’s the best booking in the world. She had difficulty dealing with Appleseed, who she seemed not to take seriously, and it was Cherry Bomb who eventually took the fall.

Belle Bryden defeated April Appleseed and Cherry Bomb in 9.21 to become the Number One Contender to the Women's Title (C-)

James Justice and Nicky Champion came out for their tag match with The Towers of Powers, but commotion erupted when T-Rex and Giant Redwood came down to the ring together. Security came from the back, but it was Shane Sneer who finally convinced them to leave, telling them the Towers would make sure there was something left for the at Stars, Stripes and Slams (B-)

Match #5: James Justice and Nicky Champion vs The Towers of Power

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/Liberty.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/NickyChampion_alt.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/DannyRushmore.jpg & http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/MickMuscles.jpg

Good match, with Justice and Champion proving a good team for next weeks PPV. Gorgon was ringside with Sneer, and seemed to intimidate Champion, but it was Justice’s class that really told, hitting the Liberation Slam on Danny Rushmore for the win.

James Justice and Nicky Champion defeated The Towers of Power in 8.01 (C-)

The video screen flashed into life outside the ring, showing Alicia Strong and Sam Strong sitting together. Alicia smiled, letting everyone know that her injury was minor, and she’d be back in the ring on PPV next week. The camera panned out to show Savage Fury, and she let everyone know that the Islanders were her partners – and her opponents would be The Towers of Powers… and Gorgon, assuming she had the guts to sign a USPW contract. The camera cut to Gorgon, who seemed more than willing to take up the challenge (C+)

Match #6: Enygma vs Andre Jones in a non-title match

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/Enygma.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/AndreJones.jpg

We thought this might be another weak Main Event, but was pleasantly surprised that Andre Jones held up his end of the deal. Enygma did eventually attached the Enygma Variation… when Tyson Baine attacked, earning the DQ.

Enygma defeated Andre Jones in 10.36 in a non-title match by DQ (C-)

The show ended with a long beatdown, with Baine throwing away security guards (was that Jack Griffith who took a viscous bump?), before going back to Enygma to deal more damage. By the end Enygma was motionless, as Baine posed with one foot on the champion (B)

Overall Rating C

Dragonmack, BHK1978 and BYU 14 all score 6/6 on the predicition front, Lexa90 just missing out on the sweep with 5/6, Cherry Bomb not quite able to deliver. Hopefully my PPV will be slightly less predictable, but we'll see.

Very happy with that one – I shouldn’t be too surprised at getting a rating above any match ratings, as that’s what USPW is all about. But in the lead up to a PPV, quickly trying to arrange matches and continue some of the set-up, the show did everything asked of it.

El Fuerza goes off to play a hulking baddie in Clutch Control. That’s not going to be good for SOTBPW. There are rumoured turns for fan favourites Champagne Lover and Pablo Rodriguez.

And PPV time!

Okay, so the preshow was better than the opener as well. Despite being kept strong, I don’t think that this match really helped Jackson. Davids got the pin on Anger with a Quarterback Sack.

The People’s Team © defeated Jumbo Jackson and Anger in 10.58 to retain the USPW Tag Team Titles (D)

Sam Strong came out to thank everyone for tuning in, and declared this to be another new era for USPW. Tyson Baine came out to agree that there was going to be a new era – he was going to squash Sam Strong’s little friend, Enygma, and become the new World Champion, just like he did with Sam Strong twelve years ago (B)

I promised to bring a bit of focus onto the Women’s Division… and have clearly failed to so far, as this match had no build up. Decent action, no-one really cared. A Night Faller for the clean win.

Raven Robinson © defeated Belle Bryden in 10.15 to retain the USPW Women’s Title (D+)

After the match Shane Sneer came out with The Towers of Power and Gorgon, and demanded that Gorgon received the next title shot. Raven told him that she first had to get through her good friend Alicia Strong later in the show before she was even considered (C-)

On our new improved larger screen (that’s an extra $5k spent on the show) Sam Strong was shown backstage hyping up Savage Fury and Alicia Strong, telling them to put Shane Sneer in his place (C+)

Still nothing as good as our preshow? Okay then. An intergender match which started with Alicia Strong in the ring, forcing Gorgon into the ring… and she was quite happy to oblige. In fact, the women continued fighting with one another even when out of the ring, turning it into a regular tag match, and when Java was distracted by Shane Sneer Mick Muscles got the low blow in on Tribal Warrior and made the pin.

The Towers of Power and Gorgon and Savage Fury and Alicia Strong in 13.24 (D+)

Shane Sneer hyped his Corporation after the match, and said he was determined to have them wearing all the belts by the summer ©

Enygma cut a backstage interview, telling Tyson Baine that although Sam Strong wasn’t his friend, they had earned one another’s respect – respect Baine has not earned. Enygma told Baine that constant attacks out of the ring did not matter – it’s what you did in the ring that counted. And today they would meet in the ring (B-)

Er… I don’t know why I booked this match. Valentine theatrically threw himself to the ground after a punch, and managed to convince Baby Jamie that the punch was illegal, to get Captain USA disqualified. Crap, does that mean I have to run this again sometime?

I should perhaps keep my stars away from Giant Redwood. Or maybe just keep him away from the ring. Sheik Mustapha kept shrieking instructions at Giant Redwood, but these just seemed to distract him and he fell to a Liberation Slam

James Justice and Nicky Champion defeated T-Rex and Giant Redwood in 8.24 (D+)

At the demands of Mustapha Redwood tried to attack Justice, to little avail, but it allowed T-Rex the opportunity to powerslam Nicky Champion to the outside match before leaving with a grin (C+)

Commissioner Doom came out for the next match… wearing a ref’s shirt. He declared that the war between Caulfield and Bruce must stop, and he was going to be in the ring to ensure an outcome (C+)

Match #6: Chris Caulfield vs Bruce the Giant

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/ChrisCaulfield_alt1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_Declaration-1.jpghttp://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/BrucetheGiant.jpg

Doom did his best to keep this match in the ring, but the two warriors kept insisting on taking it outside, and trying to make as much use of possible out of guardrails and ringposts. Trying to break this up, Doom eventually got flattened, allowing the brawl to get wildly out of control. Caulfield and Bruce took their fight up the stage, and were using (fairly lame) weapons when Domo recovered. He grabbed the mic and started to count both men out, but it clearly had no affect as they were focussed on one another. Doom slowed down as he reached ten, even tried to remind them that a title shot was on line, but the two men continued their brawl into the back, and Doom was forced to call it at that.

Chris Caulfield drew with Bruce the Giant in 13.42 after a double count out (C-)

The brawl actually continued all the way the outside of the stadium, and it was actually the cops that stopped the fight. One of them sure looked like that security guard that took a bump last week. Is one of them Al Coleman as well (B)?

Match #7: Enygma © vs Tyson Baine for the USPW World Heavyweight Title

http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu230/eayragt/USPW%2010/USPW_World.jpg

My original plan here was for Enygma to retain and end this feud, however he had a decent run at the title, and I decided it was better for Baine to continue his unstoppable run. By far away the best match I’ve booked so far had Enygma struggling to apply the Enygma Variation, and suffering three Hade Bombs before finally being unable to kick out.

Tyson Baine defeated Enygma © in 20.36 for the USPW World Heavyweight Title (C+)

Baine celebrated wildly after the match, with the commentary team speculating who could possibly bring the beast down (B+)

Thanks again for the predictions - the Main Event threw everyone off, and it's always difficult to predict a draw (especially on PPV where there really shouldn't be draws...), so I'll ignore Caulfield / Bruce. So, 5/6 for FlameSnoopy and Lexa90

I used Sam Strong too much, but he asked for the air time, and he’s my boss. Apart from that we were all very happy with the result of the show, with everyone managing to forget the Valentine / USA match. Which I want everyone to forget... what, I've booked a TV rematch!?! Quick - hype the World Heavyweight Title rematch - do it now!

Pre Show: Jumbo Jackson defeated Findlay (on loan from MAW) C-

There’s a new rule in USPW – don’t miss the pre show match, as it’ll be better than most matches on the show

The actual show started with Enygma coming out and hyping his rematch with Tyson Baine, live on free TV for everyone to see. That’s for the grumpy one’s who refused to tune into the PPV. We won’t make a habit of throwing out PPV rematches for free though (B-)

We follow that up with James Justice coming to the ring, but having time to challenge T-Rex to a match at Red, White and Blue… which I’ve moved back as it’s ridiculously close to Stars, Stripes and Slams (B-)

We cut backstage to Nicky Champion who tried to cut a promo when T-Rex pounced him into the surrounding lighting gear, and then dumped another light onto him for good measure. He picked up the discarded mic and turned to the camera, and declared that the Titans were taking over – Baine was the champion, and he would run Justice out of town at Red, White and Blue (B-)

Match #2: Savage Fury vs Darryl Devine and Brett Starr

I needed someone to team with Devine for one show to help make Savage Fury look good, and turned to Brett Starr from MAW. He held up his end of the bargain, although was pinned by Java.

Quick cut backstage and Captain USA is with Commissioner Doom, demanding a less strict ref for his rematch with Valentine, a request which was granted (D)

Match #3: April Appleseed vs Gorgon

Another outing for Gorgon, winning with the Hydra Bomb. During this match it was announced that neither of the Strong’s were present tonight… as I couldn’t fit them in with my long Main Event.

After the match Shane Sneer was confronted by Cherry Bomb, who felt angry at being used by the Sneer Corporation – tricked into thinking she could join when in fact she was just being used as a gateway to bring in Gorgon. Sneer summoned his Corporation colleagues, who surrounded Cherry Bomb while Sneer informed her that she was used by him – and he could do whatever he damned well wanted ©

Match #4: Peter Valentine vs Captain USA for the USPW National Title

An improvement, at least. A lenient ref let Valentine get away with far more than Captain USA got DQ’d for the previous night.

Match #5: Freddie Datsun vs Bruce the Giant

Straight into another match for some reason… I think I may have forgotten to book an angle. A lack of selling, but a decent match which saw Datsun chokeslammed. During commentary we found out that both Bruce and Chris Caulfield had spent a night in the cells, but were released without charge.

Chris Caulfield came out, and declared his upset at having to spend a night in the cell next to Bruce the Giant the previous night. He hardly got any sleep – the smell, the noises… it was intolerable! It looked as if the brawl was about to start again when Commissioner Doom came out, declaring that he has promised that their match last night would decide which one of the was the Number One Contender, and as still no decision could be made, they would both face the winner of the next match at Red, White and Blue. Doom made one proviso – again, lay hands on the other man out of the ring then they would lose their place in the match – Sam had told Doom that he never wanted the cops involved in USPW again (B-)

Main Event time, and Baine spent plenty of time looking scary with his title, as Sheik Mustapha also tried to take some of the glory (B+)

Match #6: Tyson Baine © vs Enygma for the USPW World Heavyweight Title

A very different match to the PPV match, ending up being much slower. T-Rex did come ringside, but that only brought out James Justice to drag him to the back… which wasn’t going to work until Nicky Champion joined in. However Jumbo Jackson did make an impact, uppercutting Enygma into Baine when the ref was distracted, allowing the champion to retain with a Hades Bomb.

Overall Rating C+

Congratulations to Lexa90 who gets the full 6/6 - BHK1978's hate of Savage Fury costs, as does FlameSnoopy's thought process that there could have been a Fatal Fourway at Red, White and Blue. Good shout, but not this time.

Well, the TV shows have definitely improved since my first attempt – although I am quite surprised that Giant Redwood has now been in my third best match so far. That’ll change.

Meanwhile, I made first use of USPW’s working agreement with MAW, bringing in Brett Starr and Findlay O’Farraday. Despite Micky’s wishes, we have no long term plans to go after Starr, but he was perfectly decent in his match. Findlay looks like a future USPW roster member, and certainly lived up to expectations preshow. The following day he went all the way to the final of the Rip Chord Invitational, before losing to Mean Jean Cattley. Darryl Devine was knocked out by Cattley in the semis in the Match of the Night, having earlier defeated Ace Youngblood as part of deal that brought Findlay to USPW. Al the Hillbilly is also currently at USPW, but was not required for the Invitational.

What is slightly worrying is my inability to fully use the Tag Division, Women’s Division and Jim Force on screen at the moment. Jim Force and Belle Bryden only have had one TV appearance each in January, which is not the long term aim.

I really like this diary, one of the few that I can actually bother to read :p

The People’s Team © vs Darryl Devine and Andre Jones for the USPW

Tag Team Titles

Throwoff team loses and the champs retain.

Java vs Jumbo Jackson

Enygma and ??? vs The Towers of Power

When a champion loses his title, he is entered into a scramble mode, exactly what happened with Enygma, but your just trying to keep his momentum up, so he will win.

Chris Caulfield vs Anger

No chance old man!

Tyson Baine © vs Nicky Champion in a non-title match

No chance in here either, as Baine makes easy work of Nicky.
