Week 3, August 2011

The Weston Gymnasium, New Jersey

Attendance: 97

Pre-Show:

Our backstage continues to improve, with Dylan Sidle and Jayson Van Pelt finding a shared love of Swedish cinema. I didn’t know either of them spoke Swedish....

Main Show:

Brendan Idol vs The Masked Outlaw

A good opener from these two. Brendan Idol debuted his new ‘Blue Collar’ gimmick, unfortunately it went over the same as his previous gimmick had with the crowd. Brendan Idol picked up the victory in this one.

Winner: Brendan Idol in 8:26

Amazing Fire Fly vs DeCipher

New York Championship

This was a really good match; certainly better than I expected from these two, and certainly DeCipher’s best match in BAW. This probably should have been the semi-main event, as it could overshadow Lucha vs Van Pelt later. Fire Fly picked up the win, and made defence number 5 of his title

Winner: Amazing Fire Fly in 7:57

KC Glenn Promo

Glenn: “I come to you tonight bearing good news. BAW management has finally come to their senses. After my dominance in recent weeks....”

Glenn is cut off by a series of boos from the crowd. He waits for them to settle down before continuing.

Glenn: “After my dominance in recent weeks, they have recognised that I am the best wrestler in this company. I have beaten every potential challenger available to me, most of them on multiple occasions. Since I’ve already beaten everyone BAW has to offer, why should I have to defend my belt month in month out? It just seems like a waste of time...”

Once again, the champ is cut off by loud booing from the crowd.

Glenn: “Boo all you want, BAW management agrees with me on this one. They have agreed that after his loss to me last month, Brendan Idol can’t challenge me for the BAW Championship again. Tonight will see another ‘last chance’ match, and when I beat Extraordinario Jr he won’t be able to challenge me for my title again either.”

A “you suck” chant starts in the crowd.

Glenn: “Actually no, no I don’t suck. In a couple of months, I will be in a position where I have eliminated all of my potential challengers. In essence, I will hold a monopoly over this title. It will be mine forever...”

Notes: Not a bad promo from Glenn, it wasn't as good as some of his recent efforts... but not bad.

Chris Flynn vs Giant Brody

Chris Flynn was Brody’s victim this week, and wow this was bad as well. Maybe this dominating tactic isn’t the way to go? These matches are not on the same level as the rest of the show...

Winner: Giant Brody in 3:24

Brody ‘Promo’

Brody remains in the ring for a few minutes after his match, looking menacing and intimidating.

Notes: Brody may have just saved himself, this was a good promo. Good for BAW I mean, as it was by no means world beating. It was easily better than Glenn’s promo earlier though.

Cal Sanders vs Donte Dunn

Okay, I’ll admit it... I forgot these two wrestled last week. Still this wasn’t a bad match. Not as good as their match last week, but not bad. Donte Dunn once again picked up the win.

Winner: Donte Dunn in 7:56

Mr Lucha III vs Jayson Van Pelt

I had been slightly worried that the New York Championship match earlier in the night might overshadow this match. I needn’t have, this was good... it wouldn’t have looked out of place as a Main Event. I really need to start pushing JVP if he can put on matches like this. It was Lucha who picked up the win this time though.

Winner: Mr Lucha III in 16:56

Extraordinario Jr vs KC Glenn ©

BAW Championship

This match wasn’t bad, but I had hoped for more from it. The match was a similar level to the Lucha vs Van Pelt match that went before it. Extraordinario pushed Glenn to the limit, but in the end the champ had just enough to get over the line. Glenn’s victory means that Extraordinario cannot challenge KC Glenn for the title for as long as Glenn hold’s onto the belt.

Winner: KC Glenn in 20:28

Match of the night: Main Event

Trash of the night: Flynn vs Brody

Next time: With Extraordinario out of the way, who’s next for KC Glenn?

Walking into ‘Creative’ I was expecting an uneventful meeting... how wrong I was. As soon as I arrived, Harvey told me that Mark was changing one of his goals for BAW. He was dropping the age restriction, and reimposing the restriction on unsafe workers. This was fine by me, to my knowledge none of our workers were regarded unsafe. Maybe dropping the age restriction would allow me to bring a new guy in? Worth a look...

An important month for me, in which I extended the contracts of both KC Glenn and Amazing Fire Fly by 12 months. While I knew I was by no means guaranteed that they would both be at BAW in a year’s time, it couldn’t hurt my cause. I also extended the contract of my referee Jonathan Taylor.

With the contract negotiations taken care of, I had a bit of time on my hands. I decided to check up on how BAW alumni were getting on since they left our company.

The first man we had lost was our original referee Wilson Carslisle to TCW. He was still on an exclusive contract with TCW, and had become a ‘National Worker’. All in all, he was doing very well for himself.

Next to go was Greg Gauge to NOTBPW. He was still at the company, but being used infrequently, with a record in 2011 of 1 win and 2 losses. With two of those matches being in the last fortnight.

Davis Wayne Newton was fairing better at CGC. He was 8 and 8 for the year; but was on a four match winning streak and had recently won the CGC Canadian Title, his first ever singles title.

Noel Madden had replaced Wilson Carslisle as referee, but never really fitted in a BAW. He was currently working on a PPA contract with CWWF.

Ant-Man was still in development at RIPW, with a record for 2011 of 2 victories and 6 losses. Dermott Ayres had continued with his ACPW contract since leaving us, and while he had only had 2 matches all year he had won both of them. Morgan Malone hadn’t been doing as well at 4C. He was 1 and 6 for the year, and on a 4 match losing streak. Sozen Ishinomori was still with WEXXV in Japan, and held a 7 wins, 9 losses and 2 no contests record for the year.

El Ladron, June Butler, Stretch The Chicken Boy and Tim Weightman are all currently unemployed.

Extraordinario Jr vs Steel

Extraordinario is simply better

Cal Sanders vs Jayson Van Pelt

Sanders haven´t really won all that much

Nathaniel Ca$ino vs Giant Brody

Another domination victory here

Brendan Idol vs DeCipher

Even if Idol currently cannot challenge Glenn he is still one of your top guys

Mr Lucha III vs Donte Dunn

Of your current roster Lucha seems to be the beat canditate as next BAW champion so I expect him to win pretty much any match he is in.

Amazing Fire Fly vs KC Glenn (BAW Championship)

Glenn continues his winning streak until either Lucha or some new guy takes the belt from him

BAW One Step Closer #18

Week 3, September 2011

The Weston Gymnasium, New Jersey

Attendance: 97

Pre-Show:

The backstage remains a good place to be. Hopefully this positive atmosphere can translate into a good show.

Main Show:

Extraordinario Jr vs Steel

A good opener from these two, which I think is a testament to Extraordinario’s skills more than Steel’s. Extraordinario picked up the win, to build his momentum back up after last weeks loss.

Winner: Extraordinario Jr in 7:51

Cal Sanders vs Jayson Van Pelt

This match wasn’t quite as good as I had hoped, but it wasn’t bad. It probably didn’t help that Jayson had an off night. Still, it was JVP that picked up the win here.

Winner: Jayson Van Pelt in 7:45

KC Glenn Promo

Glenn: “Last week, I took care of business. Now Extraordinario Jr can never challenge me for my title for as long as I am champion.”

Crowd launches into a chorus of boos.

Glenn: “This week it’s the turn of ‘Amazing’ Fire Fly. Why I even need to beat this joke is beyond me, but if BAW management say I must... well a rest week is always appreciated!”

Crowd starts a “Fire Fly” chant.

Glenn: “You actually think that nobody can beat me? Don’t make me laugh! The only thing ‘amazing’ about Fire Fly is how quickly he’s going to lose to yours truly tonight. This is going to be one of the shortest matches in BAW history, and I’m going to swat my opponent... like a fly!”

Notes: What I expect from the champ, decent promo.

Nathaniel Ca$ino vs Giant Brody

Okay... this was bad. Brody had an off night in a match he was meant to dominate, and to top it all off these two just didn’t click at all. Brody is putting on rubbish matches, but is really going over with the crowd. I just have to hope that his popularity will meant that his matches will improve... and soon.

Winner: Giant Brody in 5:06

Brody ‘Promo’

Brody remains in the ring for a few minutes after his match, looking menacing and intimidating.

Notes: Decent 'promo' from Brody, better than his match certainly.

Brendan Idol vs DeCipher

Okay, this should have been better. It wasn’t a terrible match, but it was also in no way a good match. DeCipher had an off night, but even so this should have been better. At least DeCipher looked like he was learning out there.

Winner: Brendan Idol in 7:44

Mr Lucha III vs Donte Dunn

This was a good match, easily the best of the night so far. Hopefully this will be a good warm up match for the Main Event.

Winner: Mr Lucha in 16:57

Amazing Fire Fly vs KC Glenn ©

BAW Championship

Not quite the blow away match I had been hoping for, but not bad. Amazing Fire Fly was another guy who had an off night, so that probably dragged the match down a little. Still KC Glenn picked up the win in an open match, and made the 8th successful defence of his belt so far.

Winner: KC Glenn in 17:59

Match of the night: Mr Lucha III vs Donte Dunn

Trash of the night: Ca$ino vs Brody

Next time: With only Mr Lucha left who can take the belt off KC Glenn, can the luchadore step up next week and take the title? or will Glenn beat off his last remaining competition?

In ‘Creative’ this month, we established that Harvey would start looking into the possibility of putting on two shows in more detail. I knew he was against the idea due to the financial risk, but I truly believe it would be what’s best for BAW.

Happy that Harvey was going to seriously consider running two shows a month, I picked up my monthly paper...

The month started with WLW coming in with an offer for Mr Lucha III. Extraordinario Jr already worked for WLW, so Lucha joining wouldn’t cause any conflicts so I wasn’t too worried. By the end of the month, he still hadn’t made his mind up.

I also decided to let Nathaniel Ca$ino go. He just hadn’t impressed me since joining, and I felt there would be better options available to me. After a short search, I signed 20 year old Joffy Lane. The kid looked ok in the ring, but what really caught my attention was that he was supposedly talented on the mic.

Extraordinario Jr vs The Masked Outlaw

Since I´m expecting Glenn to drop the title some heels have to start picking wins so I go with Outlaw this time

Brendan Idol vs Steel

Judging your match comments Idol is going downhill but I still expect him to beat Steel

Chris Flynn vs Giant Brody

Brody might be awful in ring but Flynn is a jobber and lost against Brody just two months ago so another squash

Joffy Lane vs Jayson Van Pelt

No idea who Lane is so I go with guy that I know.

Amazing Fire Fly vs Donte Dunn (New York Championship)

I expect Dunn to be the next New York champ so I go for title change here

Mr Lucha III vs KC Glenn (BAW Championship)

Since your other top faces cannot challenge Glenn the title change has to either now or next month in case that you plan to bring someone new in.

BAW One Step Closer #19

Week 3, October 2011

The Weston Gymnasium, New Jersey

Attendance: 110

Pre-Show:

When I arrived in the locker room, I found everyone was involved in a video game tournament that had apparently been organised by Giant Brody. The giant himself was the eventual winner, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Main Show:

Extraordinario Jr vs The Masked Outlaw

This was a really good match... I mean this was Main Event quality! Why was this opening the show? This could put real pressure on my later matches to live up to the standards of this match. This also opens up the point that Outlaw used to be a main eventer, and maybe I should try pushing him again?

Winner: Extraordinario Jr in 7:31

Brendan Idol vs Steel

This wasn’t a bad match, but was a real let down for the crowd after the opener. It was Idol who picked up the win here.

Winner: Brendan Idol in 6:48

KC Glenn Promo

Glenn: “And so we reach the final leg of these futile attempts to take my title from me. Tonight I will defeat Mr Lucha III, and finally you will all have to accept that I am, and will forever be, the BAW Champion!”

Crowd launches into a series of boos.

Glenn: “I mean after tonight, they may as well rename this title the ‘KC Glenn Belt’, because there will be nobody left in the entire company who is eligible to challenge me for it! Tonight will be the start of a new era in BAW... the KC Glenn era!”

Notes: The first of tonight’s promos, and it was a good one from the champ. Better than what he has been producing in recent months anyway.

Chris Flynn vs Giant Brody

And we reach our trash of the night. Brody dominated Flynn in a poor match, but should put him over with the crowd... I hope.

Winner: Giant Brody in 5:41

Brody ‘Promo’

Brody remains in the ring for a few minutes after his match, looking menacing and intimidating.

Notes: Okay this angle went really, really well. It wasn’t brilliant, but it’s the best angle I’ve ever put on in BAW!

Joffy Laine vs Jayson Van Pelt

I had high hopes for this match, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. Jayson had an off night (again), which could have contributed to it. At least it looked like Joffy was learning out there.

Winner: Jayson Van Pelt in 7:44

Mr Lucha III Promo

Lucha: “Tonight I face KC Glenn. Tonight I have a chance to take the BAW Championship from around his waist, my last chance to take the championship.”

The crowd begin a “Lucha, Lucha” chant.

Lucha: “Knowing that this may very well be the last shot I ever get at the BAW Championship, I will not be going down without a fight. Win, Lose or Draw, I will be able to walk out of this arena tonight with my head held high, knowing that I gave absolutely everything I have to win. I’m leaving nothing in the ring. Tonight I will prove that I’m the best wrestler in BAW, and tonight I will become your BAW Champion!”

Notes: Not a bad promo from Lucha, about the same quality as the promo delivered by KC Glenn earlier in the night.

© Amazing Fire Fly vs Donte Dunn

New York Championship

I took a risk putting this match in the semi-main... and wow it didn’t come off. This was a poor match from these two, especially when you consider they have good chemistry together. Donte Dunn had an off night, and the match was too long. The two workers lack of Psychology really showed, and it became a disjointed mess. It was a real shame. This match could have been great, but I really screwed up with my booking of it. Donte Dunn picked up the win, to take the belt off of Fire Fly.

Winner: Donte Dunn in 15:57

Mr Lucha III vs KC Glenn ©

BAW Championship

I had been worried after the semi-main event bombed, but these two put on a fantastic match to save the show. This was easily the best match in BAW history! These are my two best guys, and they have great chemistry. Harvey struggled on commentary again, but I’d deal with that issue later. For now I just wanted to celebrate how well this match went.

At the end of the match, the crowd went wild when Mr Lucha III hit the Third Strike and ended KC Glenn’s grip on the BAW Title.

Winner: Mr Lucha in 19:11

Match of the night: Main Event

Trash of the night: Flynn vs Brody

Next time: So Mr Lucha III is the new champ... how will KC Glenn react? And who will emerge as new challengers for the new champion?

This was our best ever show... but imagine how good it could have been if I hadn’t screwed up the booking of the Semi-Main event...

A positive ‘Creative’ this month, with Harvey in a good mood after our attendance rose above the 100 mark once again this month. We had been experiencing a slight lull in our attendances, so this was hopefully a sign of things picking up again.

A quiet month, the only thing of note that happened was WLW and SAISHO came in with offers for KC Glenn. Neither would be offering him exclusive deals, so I wasn’t overly concerned. By the end of the month he still hadn’t made a decision on either of the offers.

Other than that it was a quiet month, so I decided to re-order my roster. This is what I came up with:

Main Event: Mr Lucha (Face), KC Glenn (Heel), Giant Brody (Heel)

Upper Midcard: Brendan Idol (Face), Extraordinario Jr (Face), Donte Dunn (Heel)

Midcard: Amazing Fire Fly (Face), Cal Sanders (Face), Jayson Van Pelt (Heel), The Masked Outlaw (Heel), Steel (Heel)

Lower Midcard: Nigel Svensson (Face), Chris Flynn (Face), DeCipher (Heel)

Opener: Joffy Laine (Face), Antix (Heel)

The main surprise in there was seeing Giant Brody in the main event. I guess his domination victories have made him popular with the fans. I still wasn’t expecting him to have demoted Idol to the Upper Midcard.

I´m actually not sure about this one since now that your champ is face some of the heels needs to start pick up wins but in the end I decided to go with more proven guy

poor Flynn he gets himself squashed again and again

Like I said heels need to start winning some

Pre Show

The positive atmosphere back stage continues, hopefully it will translate into a good show. Tonights theme? Struggle for Survival qualifiers!

Main Show

Nigel Svensson vs Donte Dunn ©

New York Championship & Struggle For Supremacy Qualifier

A good opening to the show from these two, with a lot on the line. Not only was Dunn’s New York Championship on the line, but also a spot in next month’s main event. It was Donte Dunn who picked up the win, qualifying for next month’s showpiece and making his first defence of his New York Championship.

The first of the nights qualifying matches for next month’s ‘Struggle for survival’ match, and ity’s not a bad match at all. Certainly one of the better showings Steel has put in recently. It was Amazing Fire Fly who picked up the win, and moves on to next month’s Main Event.

Winner: Amazing Fire Fly in 7:42

Lucha Promo

Lucha: “Last month I said I would do it, and I stand before you tonight your new BAW champion!”

Crowd cheers, and starts a “Lucha, Lucha” chant.

Lucha: “This signals a new era for BAW. An era free of KC Glenn’s underhand tactics, an era free of his ‘win at all costs’ attitude. I will bring honour back to this belt, and I will bring you fans the best entertainment you have ever seen! This is the start of the Mr Lucha era!”

Notes: Good promo from the new champ. Right up there with the best promo’s BAW have ever seen.

Chris Flynn vs Giant Brody

Once again Chris Flynn gets squashed by the giant, and once again it’s a poor match. I would be worried what this was doing to Chris Flynn’s credibility if I had any plans to keep him beyond his current deal, as it is he’s doing a good job of making Brody look like a monster.

Winner: Giant Brody in 7:06

Brody ‘Promo’

Brody remains in the ring for a few minutes after his match, looking menacing and intimidating.

Notes: Another good segment from Brody. I’m guessing these are what are getting him over with the crowd, because his matches have been terrible.

Joffy Laine vs Jayson Van Pelt

Struggle For Supremacy Qualifier

I had hoped these two would build on last month’s match, as it was it was this was very similar in quality to their previous effort. That is to say it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. Jayson picked up the win to qualify for the ‘Struggle For Supremacy’ match next month.

Winner: Jayson Van Pelt in 8:23

KC Glenn Promo

Glenn: “So this is the Mr Lucha era? Don’t make me laugh! One FLUKE does not change anything! I am still far and away the best wrestler in this company!”

Crowd starts a “you suck” chant.

Glenn: “When I win my match tonight, I will qualify for the ‘Struggle for Supremacy’ match next month. I will win that match, cash in my rematch and then I will once again be the BAW Champion! That I can guarantee...”

Notes: Not a bad promo from KC Glenn. Not quite as good as Lucha’s earlier in the night, but not bad.

Extraordinario Jr vs The Masked Outlaw

Struggle For Supremacy Qualifier

I put this in the Semi-Main and hoped they could repeat their blow out match from last match, unfortunately they couldn’t manage it. It wasn’t a bad match, but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped it would be. Extraordinario Jr picked up the win and qualifies for next month’s Main Event.

Winner: Extraordinario Jr in 8:28

Brendan Idol vs KC Glenn

Struggle For Supremacy Qualifier

A decent match from these two, about the standard we’ve come to expect for a Main Event. A year ago, Idol was the champ, and undefeated for a year. Now he was struggling to even qualify for the ‘Struggle For Supremacy’ match, as KC Glenn picked up the victory here.

Winner: KC Glenn in 17:02

Match of the Night: Main Event

Trash of the Night: Flynn vs Brody

Next Time: With only one spot left in the Struggle For Supremacy match, who will be the one step up and fill it?

‘Creative’ this month saw me get some good news. Cliff had agreed to let me start running two shows a month, starting in January. Would this push us to new levels of popularity, or would we start losing money hand over fist?

Picking up my paper, this is what I saw...

FREEDOM C

PSW D+

BAW D+

NYCW D+

Once again we had finished 3rd on the list. We’d managed to stay off the bottom for the second month in a row. Could we start to climb even further up the list?

Predictions

This Month

funkyzafara 6/6

BHK1978 6/6

Zergon 5/6
